So it’s Election Day 2018...

Let’s get to the polls:

Find your polling place here

Not registered? Find out if your state has same-day voter registration

If you need transportation, Uber and Lyft are offering free rides

Voting do’s and don’t’s:

DO:

Find out what’s on your ballot ahead of time. You can bring your sample ballot to the polls

Find out if your state requires photo ID

Bring a friend

Cast a provisional ballot if they say you aren’t registered but you know that you are - they will double check and your vote will be counted

Stay in line. If you get in line before polls close, they have to let you vote.

Know that the Election Protection Hotline is 866-OUR-VOTE and you can call them if you have ANY issues voting. Multiple languages are available.

Share your selfie and voting sticker on social media after you vote

DON’T:

Wear anything with a political slogan or logo

Take a selfie in the voting booth - it is illegal in most states!

Be intimidated. If you feel unsafe, contact local police. Voter intimidation is illegal and you are within your rights. If you have any other questions about voting, call 866-OUR-VOTE.

And a quick reminder about the history of voting:

Generally, voting is easy these days and takes less than 5 minutes. We’re talking about potentially changing the whole government, and it takes you less than 5 minutes! Voting is awesome and it’s a right we are lucky to have thanks to the activists who fought for it. The Voting Rights Act wasn’t passed until 1965. That was only 53 years ago - and Republicans are still trying to take that right away from people in 2018. If you have not been affected by voter disenfranchisement, then it is your civic duty to vote for those who cannot!

I like red and beige - or basically any saturated color combo with beige/khaki. not quite sure why. it usually provides a nice stark contrast. v pleasing

5. how many times have you read your favourite book?

Ummm, maybe 7-10 times. I'm not really sure. It's a rather short book and you'd think I could have read it more but... it's lovely, it's called Border States.

9. what kind of weather represents who you are as a person?

this is some deep shit. um.  probably the kind where it seems calm, but you're unsure if it's gonna change. it's changed in the past for better or worse, so you don't know. at the moment there is a slight breeze and the hue of the sky is beautiful but desaturated, and a change will eventually come

16. what is your favourite poem?

red & blue by sh-- ;) no uh. I kinda don't have one, or if I did, I forgot

17. who are you most inspired by?

honestly I'm inspired by anything I pick up and look at/read/watch etc.  that tiny bit of trying to absorb bits of other things into my own being. i'm inspired by folks who let me talk and bounce ideas off them for hours on end. : )

33. what scares you the most?

that we are actually alone. in the universe. in our galaxy. in our personal lives. just existential dread on the largest and smallest scale. also that my suicide attempt at 16 may be having such an ill effect on my health years later that it's contributing to me being half-dead. should really check into that more... ...but mainly the dread.

42. what do you think happens to us when we die?

i believe in reincarnation. since i heard of the concept i have strongly. i believe i have lived past lives. i believe also we will never really figure this all out... so what i believe isn't important in the grand scheme. oops

Bruce gets Diana babysits Damian, Dick, Tim, Jason, and Stephanie because he doesn’t trust them to take care of themselves while he and Alfred are away.

Diana heard the crashes through the front door and immediately went into high alert. Bruce Wayne was an elite member of Gotham society and even if his kids were capable of fighting off any attackers, that didn’t mean there wasn’t someone who would have the gall to try and stage an attack on the family. Especially if they knew Bruce would be away, which, because of the nature of the event he was attending, everyone around the globe probably knew he would be gone.

She kicked the front doors open and rushed inside among the splintering wood, ready to immobilize any threat. What she was met with instead was not what she was prepared for. Bruce had warned her they could be rambunctious at times, but she thought since most of them were older and mature and able to handle their own patrols, a weekend alone wouldn’t be a problem.

Dick was swinging from the chandelier, Tim and Damian were pulling each other’s hair and arguing over a remote and maybe some snacks, Jason and Stephanie weren’t anywhere nearby, but she could smell something cooking and suspected that’s where the two of them were.

They all froze at the sound of the doors busting open and watched her with wide eyes. Diana dropped out of her fighting stance and took a deep breath.

“Bruce did remember to inform you that you would not have the Manor to yourselves while he was away, correct?”

She looked at them individually. Dick had the decency to look sheepish and took the initiative to flip down from the light fixture. Damian and Tim separated.

“Hey, what’s going on-” Jason stopped short after walking in from the kitchen. He was donning Alfred’s apron and there was chocolate splattered over the white cloth.

“Let’s get things in order, shall we?” Diana said. “What are you doing in the kitchen Jason?”

“Uhhh…”

“Jason what’s going on?” Stephanie hollered before stepping up behind Jason, chocolate smudged on her cheeks and flour in her hair.

“Cake?” Jason finished.

“Have you thought about dinner?”

He shook his head.

“The cake will have to wait until you’ve had a proper meal. I suggest you start planning and find something to make and keep Stephanie occupied.”

“Hey!” she protested. 

Jason nodded, dumbly, staring a little too obviously at Diana before turning and walking back into the kitchen and dragging Steph by the collar of her shirt even as she kicked and tried to pull free from his grip.

“Right, the three of you,” she said, looking back at Damian, Dick, and Tim. “You are going to come with me down to the Cave.”

They all shared a look but dutifully followed her down to the Cave. Diana pulled two staffs from the array of practice weapons they kept on hand. She gave one to Damian and one to Tim. They looked down at the staffs in their hands like they were two-headed snakes before looking at each other and then back at Diana.

“What…” Tim started and cleared his throat. “What are we supposed to do with these?”

“What everyone does when they have a conflict, you’re going to fight out your anger and frustrations in battle so that you may come off the mat stronger and more connected.”

Dick snorted behind them and Diana looked over her shoulder at him.

“Sorry,” he mumbled.

She nodded and looked back at Damian and Tim. “Well?” she asked. “I won’t allow you to sit at the dinner table until you’ve put this issue behind you.”

“Um…Diana?” Dick asked. “I’m not sure that’s really going to work…”

“Nonsense. Go on.”

Damian and Tim reluctantly took their spots opposite each other on the mat. Their hesitation fell away quickly and they met in the center of the mat with a crack of wood against wood. Diana nodded, a smile pulling at her lips before she turned to Dick.

“And now for you.”

“Me?” Dick asked and swallowed.

Diana walked over to the training equipment with Dick following her. She stopped at the trapeze that had been first installed when Brcue took him in as a child.

“Since you so enjoy dangling from things I suggest you do it in a much more acceptable manner. You may play until dinner is ready.”

Dick looked at the trapeze a little uncertainly. As much as he loved being able to enjoy himself and his circus roots, he felt ridiculous being back down there in the Cave. Reluctantly, he set foot on the ladder and climbed to the top, grabbing onto the bar.

The first swing was as wonderful as it always was, it sent adrenaline running through his veins and reminded him why he loved flying so much and the circus. Before he even realized it, he was letting out a raucous laugh that echoed back to his first years as the Robin he’d been, fighting alongside Batman.

Diana looked over the progress that had been already been made in the Cave and smiled before turning on her heel. She had a pair of chefs to check up on.

By the time Bruce and Alfred returned from their weekend away they were shocked to find the fridge stocked with food almost as good as Alfred’s. Tim and Damian were sparring as they had been all weekend and actually smiling at each other even if it was in a more challenging way. But there was some muffled laughter thrown in there too.

Dick couldn’t be parted from the trapeze and other gym equipment and Diana was sparring against both Jason and Stephanie. The house was still standing and none of his kids were dead, bleeding, or fighting. In the metaphorical sense anyway.

Bruce made a mental note to ask Diana how she’d managed to keep them all under control. Or maybe he’d just let her spend more time with his kids. She was a good influence. Especially when they all turned and smiled at him when he walked in to find them getting along. Before Diana put both Jason and Stephanie on their backs that is.
