Hi im emi and i think way too much about sk8 the infinity part 261

COLOUR THEORY TIME i just had like, a brain blast in realisation.

Reki is yellow coded, langa is blue. Usually people would ASSUME reki is the "red" character of the show because of his hair, but i think that just helps to show off his passionate and firey personality. His colour is yellow because he is energetic, friendly and most often optimistic (especially when it comes to helping people learn how to skate or make friends)

Langa is blue coded, usually used for quiet, cold and mysterious characters, or those with lots of sadness (think inside out). BUT because he is pastel blue, his sadness is lighter because of people like reki lifting him out if it. He is still young and has time to grow.

Because they are yellow and blue coded, its different from what is the usual trope of red and blue which are most often rivals or opposites. BUT because theyre yellow and blue, theyre actually perfectly made to compliment each other. I like to see it as reki being the sun to langas moon.

Now. You know who IS red coded? Adam. He is passionate and all about love and anger, the two emotions most connected to red. Because he is red, it links into his whole idea of thinking he "belongs" with langa, but he is already fulfilled by being with reki.

Then we see adams colours slowly change from red to that dark blue we see him wearing in the finale. He comes to realise that he was chasing after langa because he thought they were the same (blue = sad and hurt. Adam being a deeper blue means his emotions and sadness runs deeper aka because he has had YEARS longer to sit with his feelings and trauma) but it takes langa, a fellow blue, being happy and excited and wanting to skate with REKI not him, to show him that he doesnt have to put on this red boisterous persona. If we look at Adam through the years, he's never really had a red-coded personality. It's always an act. How he thinks people wANT him to act.

He's a blue, just like his hair and the suit he wears.

Now. Joe and cherry.

Cherry being pink is so INTERESTING TO ME. Its seen as graceful and youthful, but is also just a toned down version of red. Cherry CAN be graceful and composed, but is also full of so much anger and emotion (especially towards adam) and the fact the two are similar in colour makes me so invested. I also think Cherry has a complex colour pallet- being not only pink, but also wearing deep blues and whites. He is elegant and complex.

THEN JOE. oh joe. My deep green giant. He is down to earth (haha get it) and is always trusting his gut with everything, AND IDK IF YOU HAVE NOTICED THIS BUT HE NEVER GIVES BAD ADVICE!! Green is usually associated with grounded and level-headed characters, but green is also the colour of jealousy. Joe doesn't seem like the jealous type, but he has this strange loneliness to him. All he has is his restaurant and Cherry. He never seems to be able to fully grasp what he wants, so finds his fufillment in other places.

Now onto the fact that pink and green ARE opposites and so are cherry and joe. Where cherry is quiet and reserved, joe is loud and energetic. Their lifestyles and jobs couldn't really be more different. They argue and bicker and always seem to know what perfectly annoys the other most.

BUT!! Pink and green (while being opposites) ARE ALSO COMPLIMENTARY!!!! they work well together beCAUSE theyre so different. And being together just seems to work out somehow.

ANYWAYS. Yeah. Sun and moon coded renga are very special to me :)

here i go with another grand list that i was very happy to write! i’m in love with these asks, really. i’ll mention all of them, but at first i was in doubt if i could include one that isn’t ‘canon’, but rather rpf. either way, i added bonus couples for good reasoning! let’s go.

1. wangxian (lan wangji x wei wuxian), from mo dao zu shi — they are THE moment, they are THE couple, they are THE goals. who ever could have imagined someone would come up and write a troublemaker who falls into demonic arts and gets reincarnated to fight together with a sucker-for-rules expressionless man and make it work? they fit into any au as well, this fandom rocks. my lovely cultivators!

2. kagehina (kageyama tobio x hinata shouyou), from haikyuu!! — i dont even play volleyball. i dont even like sports! why do i love this anime and this duo specifically so much? they are so passionate about their hobbies, the rivalry and frenemy relationship? the POTENTIAL. the STORY they have. the "someone better will come and find you" promise. sheer beauty. they are silly and fresh and cute and i dont think i'll ever get tired of it.

3. yizhan (wang yibo x xiao zhan), from the untamed cast rpf — i know all the problematics about writing real person fiction. i KNOW, okay?? but people, let me like them and support them in peace?? 😔 i have so much love for these men, and its overall hella fun following their life unfold, even if they are not working together anymore. nonetheless, they are my dose of serotonin when i need it.

4. daiharu (kambe daisuke x katou haru), from fugou keiji: balance unlimited — i will not scream for a seson 2 here. i will scream for more FICS of them here! there ain't enough! its not even about the 'sugar daddy' appeal, its more about the 'partners in (solving) crime' appeal. oh and also the 'i hate you you arrogant prick but i WILL do anything for you' part. everything and every detail of this show.... seriously though: gold.

5. hilson (gregory house x james wilson), from house m.d — oh, my sweet stupid and repressed doctors, i would do unspeakable things for you. wilson has been through every hard moment of house's life. you can name them, he's been there. through every ridiculous situation of his too. it is overwhelming, honestly. the ending couldn't have been more reasonable and fitting for them, in my opinion.

6. hannigram (hannibal lecter x will graham), from hannibal — this gif alone of them with scratches and smiling conspiratorily to each other sums up their entire dynamic. they're toxic and no one's doing it like them. like, yeah, no shit, who would even dare, right? murder husbands can do anything and eat the rude as much as they want, i will be sipping on my drink and watching intently. (man truly looked at this detective he framed for murder and said he would remember their moment together forever??? just dont throw him in jail then???)

7. shiguang (lu guang x cheng xiaoshi), from link click — these pretty boys traveling through time invented the concept of yearning, and i will not explain more to not give season 2 spoilers. i fell in love with them as soon as i saw the first shot of the anime. it doesnt help that they have the same dynamic as wangxian, too. cheng xiaoshi, my beloved, you would never do anything to harm anyone (not purposefully) and i (as well as lu guang) worship you 🙏

8. renga (hasegawa langa x kyan reki), from sk8: the infinity — let's be true tho, can they never do a sports anime without pulling up homosexuals?? not that im complaining at all. please continue, in fact. every couple in this story is valid (adam does not exist), and i love this spirited, young concept of redescovering the beauty of a hobbie. lovely, all of them, but most specially my langa and his admiration for reki. their dynamic has no complications, its just so sweet.

9. moshang (mobei jun x shang qinghua), from the scum villain self-saving system — i will not share a pic of moshang official art because i find shang qinghua appearence too much childlike and annoying, meanwhile i find him much more interesting in the book and fanarts. in any case, i love this couple more than the main couple simply because our airplane-bro can make everything so hilarious. there are fics of them out there which are peak entertainment (check this one!). mobei's tsundere attitude and shang qinghua's shamelessness are a great combo.

10. hualing (hua cheng x xie lian), from heaven official’s blessing — the longing is unbearable. hua cheng loves this man so much, for real. waiting 800 fucking years?? being his most devoted believer? can you believe the audacity?? my man, though he has low self-steem, does anything to protect his god. he doesnt care about any realm. he only cares for xie lian, his dear god. they are the cutest couple.

bonus: aziracrow, johnlock, tododeku, victuuri, blackbonnet, mafuyama, redblue (from this is how you lose the time war).

these are my favorite ships ever! they are what i scream about alternatively, and when i say so, i'm not joking. one week i'm freaking out over new link click content and in the other one i'm reviewing house m.d episodes. my life's a circle with my favorite ships in it and i ain't regretting anything.

You knew full well there were three things Reki Kyan loved more than life itself. 

1, skateboarding. 

2, you. 

3, your and his boyfriend, Langa Hasegawa. 

Not necessarily in that order. 

However, recently, he’d picked up a new hobby. For the last few months, whenever you visited, Koyomi sat and complained about how she was tired of hearing him slamming the strings of his guitar. 

As funny as it was listening to her complain, you were quite curious to hear how all this practice was coming along. Anytime you or Langa asked he brushed it off and changed the subject as fast as possible. You were sure he wasn’t hiding anything because he would talk about it once in a while, but he didn’t seem to want to play anything in front of either of you. You figured he was nervous—not many people could play in front of a crowd, even if it was only the two of you. 

Until today, at least. 

He invited you over a few days prior, saying he had some sort of surprise. So when you sat on his bed (Langa curled up and laying in your lap), you grinned as he pulled out his guitar. 

“You playing something, Reki?” Langa asked, picking up his head slightly. 

“Nah, im just gonna make you stare at me while i make no noise,” he said sarcastically, no real venom behind his words. 

You scoffed and blew him a kiss from across the room. “Whatcha playing, then? Anything we know?”

“Just something I found online a couple of weeks ago, nothing super special, I think it’s pretty.”

“Hey, don’t do that.” you cut in, shooting him a reassuring look. He had a nasty habit of playing down his interests, so you did all you could to make him feel as special as you and Langa both knew he was. “I’m sure it's great.”

He smiled but didn't say anything, fidgeting and tuning. “Koyomi hates when I do this too loud, it's funny. Gets all sorts of mad because she says it’s ‘the same boring crap over and over’.”

“I mean this in the nicest way possible: your sister is boring because i like your song.”

“Langa, im not playing anything. I’m just tuning.”

“Oh…” 

You laughed and kissed Langa’s head. “Idiot.”

He pouted at you, but you knew he wasn't upset. Hard to be upset when he looked so comfortable and you were playing with his hair. 

Reki fidgeted with his phone for a minute or so before turning back to the two of you. “You’re not allowed to judge, alright, because its not great.”

“Reki.”

“it’s not wonderful, but im proud og myself and i wanted to show you—”

“Reki.”

“What?”

You smiled at him. “I'm sure it’s amazing, babe.” Langa nodded, reaffirming your statement. “Just play. I won’t look right at you if that would make you less nervous.”

“That would help, actually.”

“Got it.”

You looked away, suddenly finding a very interesting pattern of glow-in-the-dark star stickers you’d seen a million times before. He fidgeted for a minute or two longer before he finally started playing. And then singing.

You weren’t sure if you’d ever heard him sing by himself. If he did, it was always with the radio, and he never cared how he sounded. Instead, now, he sounded nice. Not a perfect, angel-like voice but one that was warm and comforting. 

For only playing for a few months, he sounded good. And singing and playing at the same time was harder than doing one or the other, so you had to applaud him for that.

He played through the end of the song, letting the strings ring out. Reki refused to look up at you—at first, at least. He set his guitar down and swiped out the app on his phone, before finally turning toward the two of you. 

“So…?’

You weren’t sure about Langa, but you knew you had a wide grin on his face. If you were smart before he started playing you would have recorded it and kept it for yourself (and maybe Langa) because the way he played it was a perfect song to fall asleep to. 

You held your hand out to him wordlessly, and when he sat next to the two of you on his bed, you grabbed his face and kissed him all over. “That was amazing, sweetheart! You're so talented.”

“Eh, i kinda screwed up my words in the—” 

Any other words were lost against your lips. When he started that, you found it was easier to shut him up and then reassure him. “It was wonderful. I mean it.”

He looked to langa for approval as well. He smiled at the two of you and kissed reki’s knuckles. “I really like your voice,” he said stretching upward for a kiss. 

He obliged, then laid his head on your shoulder. “I was so nervous to do that,” he sighed, burying his face in your arm. “You two are lucky i love you.”

“Yes, yes we are.”

“Love you too, red.”

“You guys are making me blush, stop it!”

Renga Valentine's Day

Renga were the second winners in this poll and here is the date they had on Valentine's Day this year on our sims gameplay.

It was getting close to 7:30pm and Reki and Langa started to close Dope Sketch store.

An hour before...

Oka: Reki, Langa, I'll leave you here to close whenever you want 😉 I have a date. Reki: With a new woman? Oka: Don't be so nosy, Reki. Langa: If you don't mind, we'll close before 8pm. Reki and I will go see a movie.

Oka: And have you already chosen it? Langa: No. Oka: Then let me recommend one for you two. 😁 «Reki, that's what you get for being nosy» - thinking. Reki: WOW, a special recommendation from Oka. Okay, tell us what you have to offer us. 😏

Oka: "桜の木に吹く風" (The wind among Cherry blossoms), it's a nice friendship between two friends, also one of the main themes is skateboarding. 😁 Reki: Oka, you're a genius! Oka: You're welcome. 😁 Langa: You must really like it to be smiling like that. Oka: Sure... I went with some friends and we had a lot of fun. And there they did some spectacular tricks. Maybe they give you some ideas. 😁 Reki: Okay, so tomorrow we'll talk about the movie, Oka.

Oka: Of course 😁 «You're welcome Langa, I'm sure Reki will hold on to you tight 🙌» - thinking.

So following Oka's recommendation; about closing when they wanted to; they were going to close it at 19:30h. When the time came, they packed up, changed clothes, turned off the lights and closed Dope Sketch.

Langa: I can't wait to see that movie.

Reki: Yes, especially because during the year it's very unusual to see skateboarding premieres... Although it's weird that I'm not familiar with it...

Langa: Reki... Maybe some of the other main topics are not so much of your interest?

Reki: Maybe, although that sounds even better, it means I'll enjoy it even more!

Once they closed, headed towards the movie theater and saw that two premieres were announced on the billboard.

They went inside and looked to see in which room the movie was being shown.

Langa: Room 1.

Reki: This must be the movie Oka recommended.

Langa: Reki... The shadow that appears on this poster has red eyes... Doesn't it remind you of someone?

Reki: *a shiver ran through his whole body* ... No! He doesn't remind me of anyone... He doesn't have a longboard so...

Langa: So we're thinking of the same person.

Reki: Well then I hope the character doesn't remotely resemble "that person", because then the story is going to get boring. 💦

Langa: But at least it will have good tricks.

They went to get two tickets and Langa also bought popcorn. It was half price so was quite cheap. They entered the theater and sat down to wait for the movie to start.

Reki: Do you think movie will be good? I don't see many people sitting down.

Langa: Well, movie starts at 8:30 pm, there's still time, Reki. It will probably fill up with more people little by little.

Reki: By the way... Why did they put on the ticket that movie is rated for 16 years and over?

Langa: There might be street fights, don't you think that would be a good reason?

Reki: But if skateboard fights aren't so dangerous... Unless are on "S"...

Langa: But it can be if are street fights.

Reki: Well, we'll see. It looks like movie is about to start.

When the film starts, Reki sees something weird about it. Why were most of the shots taken at night? Well... Okay... He knew that most of time he skateboarded with Langa, it was at night, especially if they were on the streets in the car lane... But... Why did all the shots and soundtracks seem like they were made expressly to be scary? After a while Langa had eaten all popcorn without leaving any for Reki, he seemed to be very excited about the plot. On the other hand, Reki thought that Oka had put more "tricks" than he was actually seeing on stage.

Langa still thought that guy with red eyes reminded him of "that person" although seen from a different point of view and more now that he was half an hour into the movie.

Langa: Reki, the guy with red eyes looks sad and full of anger, are you sure now that ghost doesn't remind you of someone?

Reki: Gho... ghost?!

Langa: Yes, a 御霊 (goryoo), I think it's called that way. ⁽*¹⁾

⁽*¹⁾ 御霊 (goryoo) are vengeful Japanese ghosts from the aristocratic classes.

Reki was so deep in his thoughts thinking about everything Oka told him that didn't understand much of the plot...and begins to realize that the movie is not romantic at all but... SCARY!!!!

Reki: Langa, are we leaving now?

Langa: But... The story is very interesting...

Reki doesn't hear anything and runs out in panic, towards the exit of the room.

Langa is left alone, sitting down.

Langa: I'll have to buy the Blu-ray to watch the ending with mom, I'm sure she'll like it.

While outside the room it can be hear:

Reki: OKAAAAAAA!!!!

Reki runs to the washroom in a panic and Langa runs out of the room and into the washroom with him.

Reki: Oka I knew it, he knew it was scary!

Langa: But Reki, the story is interesting, and tricks even if they were few seemed good.

Reki: I'm sorry, Langa. You know how I'm with anything scary....

Langa: It's okay Reki, I'll buy the Blu-ray and watch it with mom. 

Reki: Are they going to release Blu-ray of that?

Langa: I don't know, but they usually release Blu-rays of everything after a while.

Reki: You're right, hehe. Can I go in the bathroom for a minute and then we'll head to the Skatepark?

Langa: Sure. *spends some time* Reki...

Reki: Uh-huh?

Langa: I'll always be by your side when you're scared, so you can hold on to me tight... Like when in Miyakojima...

Reki: Thank you, Langa... Although you know that my fears are stronger than I'm... Shall we go to the Skatepark?

Reki and Langa arrive at the Skatepark and the former gets very close to the latter.

Reki: Langa, I know Valentine's Day is celebrated differently in Canada, but this is my gift for you. 

And gives Langa a kiss on the cheek.

Langa: Reki... Do you want to try tricks from the movie? They seem pretty easy to perform, I don't think they put much thought into doing something new.

Reki: But... You know I haven't seen almost anything...

Langa: I'll show them to you!

Reki: Okay, I'll follow you!

[AN: The mod we use for the skateboards doesn't allow the switch between Regular and Goofy, so here both are shown as Regulars, imagine that Langa has his right leg in front. Next time surely we'll make special poses if skateboards are used]

They tried performing several of the tricks shown in the movie, in which Langa was right, Reki saw that they hadn't innovated much.

Reki: Langa

Langa: Reki

Reki: Shall we go there?

Langa: Yes.

Langa: Reki, are you reading it? I want to participate.

Reki: Okay, but as soon as you participate I will challenge you to a beef. I'll get to give you the chocolate to prove my love, and I'll defeat all the other Regulars that stand in my way! And for me it won't be allegorical.

Langa: I can't wait for the day!

Reki: By the way, ADAM is also participating, if you see you can challenge him.

Langa: Yes, I'm sure many will challenge him to a beef and he'll have as much fun as I.

Reki: You're right. Joe was left wanting last time... But come on, Langa, go ahead and register if you want to. So I can challenge you to a beef. I want to be one of the first who wants to give you a chocolate.

Langa: That's it, Reki. Be that as it may, I'll always enjoy your chocolate.

Reki: But this time I'll give it to you, and I'll defeat everyone who wants to stand in my way!

Langa: This time?

Reki: I'm just saying, Langa.

Funny you'd ask that since I just recently started rewatching Merthur with my mom and am quite excited about them again. They are one of my otps as well. So thanks for giving me an excuse to rant about my favs.

Are they canonically romantic? No. But are they canonically soulmates and destined to be with each other? Yes! With the amount of staring they have between each other, including at the other's lips, I think it's safe to say that Merthur shippers aren't delusional in shipping them. I will never stop fretting about how much potential this show had but the writers didn't do enough with especially Arthur's character. "It's a kids show" idc idc. They should've done this better. But no, they had to reset him all the time. He had many learning opportunities and every time we think he had development, the next episode it was reversed again. The plot was too loose as well. Villain of the week is a fun lil trope but I'd have preferred it if more characters learned about Merlin's magic and that way it had become closer to being legalised again. There's great fanfics that did this well I think.

I've never been invested in Free for some reason. My love belongs to sk8 and I'm so incredibly happy that we're getting a s2 + OVA!! I hope they pick up the show where they let off to continue the plot lines. I'd love to see the sexy police officer again trying to arrest Adam and making things interesting at S events. Adam suffering real consequences for his actions would be favourable. Idk if they'll finally make the shippings canon, since they were always meant to just be queer coded, but I'm beyond excited to get more content for them. Renga could have gotten closer through their lil break up and be more invested in each other than ever, which would make for cute moments. Matchablossom could solve their dispute with Adam, though I want Cherry to say that he's completely over Adam after how violent he's been. Actually, it'd be best if they told Adam off, not forgiving him and letting him know that his actions aren't excusable. Reki's backstory with his ex friend, Miya reconciling with his friends. There's a lot of potential for fluff with the younger caharcters and angst with the adults. It's gonna be great! :)

Hualian and Wangxian are special so they didn't necessarily remind me of other shippings. I always try to not think of other people's work or compare too much, unless it serves a real purpose. While reading I want to be fully invested in these specific characters and stories without being distracted.

On the topic of xianxia danmei, I started reading Dumb Husky And His White Cat Shizun recently but can't find good translations past chapter 50 so I don't know if I have to drop it permanently. I didn't love it but I am now invested. I'm not a quitter, I'm a not-even-starter. But because I've already started reading it I at least want to finish the first book to judge it properly so if anyone has good translations pls send them my way.

After losing his father, Langa moves to Okinawa with his mother, dealing with the deep sadness of not having his dad around anymore, Langa starts going to his new school in which he meets some interesting people. Specially Reki, a kid his age that spends most of his day with a skateboard under his feet and does not really care about classes and grades that much.

Throughout this story Langa tries to learn and understand how to deal with his grief, while also dealing with weird, totally not romantic feelings for that one guy at his class.

so. @zukkaclawthorne got me hooked on reki with ts and now imma post headcanons i wrote oops

okay so first—that little skateboard he plays with??? stim toy, actually.

he likes the sound the wheels make—that whirrrrrr sound. it makes his arms flappy :)

he also finds the rolling motion soothing and relaxing and it always calms him down—it takes his mind to a happy place

he rocks back and forth and shakes his legs a lot. that also contributed to why he was terrible at skateboarding the first few times he tried—because his body would be like “time to rock back and forth!” and it would mess him up

neck twitches for days :)

no but for real—neck twitching is one of his worst tics because sometimes—if he’s in a bad mood or if he’s sad or anxious—it gets harsh and violent and really strains his neck.

so, langa gives him neck / upper back neck massages to help with the pain

he went through this phase for a couple of months where whenever his neck would twitch, he would snap his fingers two times.

he has a lot of hand tics which can be stressful when he makes skateboards because sometimes he’ll be in the groove and then suddenly he’ll mess something up

speaking of messing things up, he has a tendency to dig the bottom of his palm into his forehead whenever he feels like he does something stupid—he doesn’t even realize it until someone points it out.

he feels like even more of a failure of a skater because of his tics because they can hold him back and make the course more dangerous.

if his blinking tic resurfaces, sometimes the blinking gets so intense that he literally cannot see for anywhere between five seconds and a minute depending on how bad it is. that is how he got some of his worst scars.

or sometimes he’ll make a really aggressive hand motion and it throws him off balance on the skateboard due to the intensity

anyways back to hand tics: he points a lot and does symbols like the “rock on” sign or certain numbers (for some reason, the most common number for reki to throw up is four—though sometimes he throws up whatever number he hears) he also grunts a lot as a tic so he sounds angry even when he is’t.

sometimes, his hand tics really hurt and his hands become shaky and his fingers start to feel the way his heart feels when he’s anxious. langa helps in different ways—he holds reki’s hand, he gives him something to fidget with to try to distract him (sometimes it’s his own fingers—he’ll just set them in reki’s palm and be like “let me carry some of the pain”—no, reki didn’t totally cry when he said that what)

sometimes, reki sticks pencils in his ears. his teachers have been trying to stop it since he was young, but he always did it anyways—he couldn’t help it.

his hair is also long enough for him to chew on. yes, he chews on the tips of his hair because i say so. sometimes, to stop him from doing that (and from swallowing his own hair), langa will try to make him laugh so it falls out of his mouth and then he’ll scoot close and tuck the hair behind reki’s ears… once they start dating, he kisses him too. but also that’s one reason why he wears the headband—to try to keep his hair out of his face so he doesn’t chew on it.

reki’s favorite form of stimming (other than his skateboard toy, that is) is stress balls. he’s got a couple of stress balls in his room or backpack—even one with string attached so he can carry it around his wrist. he just really likes the texture of them.

after his second race against adam, cherry and joe were so proud of him and also impressed and worried dads that they bought reki a big stress ball, like, the size of a stuffed animal. it was a blue cat. he uses it all the time.

speaking of fricking adam, we all know he would so use reki’s tics against him during a race. like, when he grabbed his wrist and “danced” with him, he would mock reki’s tics or say creepy things about how his verbal tics are music and his motor tics are him dancing along and it makes him so uncomfortable and like even more shaken

oh and adam purposely does things to trigger his tics, like when i mentioned that number tic??? yeah, adam will purposefully say numbers to make reki do the hand gestures

one time, reki wanted to tell langa that he loved him but got nervous so he signed it in sign language instead. but, since reki’s tics are occasionally hand gestures, langa thought that it was just a tic and mentally was like “i wish that was for me…” and reki is like “i wish he knew it was real…” and joe, cherry, shadow, and miya are all facepalming and groaning at their obliviousness

reki prefers taking hand written notes to electronic notes because he draws / doodles to stim and he can’t really doodle well on a laptop. so, he’ll doodle in class all of the time

sometimes, his pictures / notes turn out pretty bad / illegible depending on how bad his tics are, but that doesn’t phase reki. it used to when he was younger, but it doesn’t bother him at all anymore. in fact, he thinks it adds personality

during class, he’ll draw pictures for langa and slid them on his desk. they’re usually really random things like the teacher or the back of someone’s head or squiggly lines or whatever he sees outside. more often than not, it’s abstract art. langa loves these drawings and he keeps them all on his desk in his room.

reki also started drawing pictures for the rest of the sk8 crew and gives it to them during races. when he gave everyone their first doodle, he was like “i’m not the best artist ever and sometimes my tics mess up the doodle, but i thought of you while i drew it so i want you to have it”

(shadow didn’t shed a couple of unwilling dad tears when he got home that night what)

anyways, they all keep them. every single one. miya puts them in their school binder so they don’t feel as alone / isolated at school.

although shadow and miya give reki a lot of crap / teasing about not being as good as everyone else, the second they hear anyone comment about “the weird red head that makes noises” and comments on his ts in a negative way, oh, they will stop you.

sometimes, reki whispers words he hears under his breath as a tic (echolalia, baby~) and when he overhears people saying stuff about “that redhead that always follows snow around” or about him not being good enough or how he’s an idiot to face adam, he ends up muttering that too. and it’s not a one and done kind of thing—like. he does it for days. it makes him so upset (and i already hc him, with depression so it just makes it worse)

having tics while having injuries is not a good combination—especially if it’s with a broken arm. the crew made sure to keep an eye of reki’s comfort / pain level after adam broke his arm and literally tried to kill him in their final race. joe let reki squeeze his hand whenever he felt the urge to tic and cherry would ask him how much pain he was in after he ticced and depending on how bad it would be, would make joe or shadow fetch a heating pad or an icepack for reki.

joe also taught reki about the magical thing called physical therapy tape and helped him put it on his shoulders, neck, and back one time. it was his idea to use the tape on reki’s fingers when he was injured to make him feel better (because it literally makes my fingers feel better)

also langa kisses each of reki’s fingers and knuckles, slowly and tenderly, soft so he doesn’t hurt him or trigger a tic. a way of showing that he loves him not despite his tics, but even with his tics and that he loves him and his tics.

cherry isn’t always the best at showing he cares, so he’ll wear a ts ribbon sometimes in a way to show support (and it makes reki beam)

shadow once gave reki a flower shaped stress ball because there were “extra at work” (not true—he went looking for one)

miya didn’t really know much about ts at first and asked why reki made those noises and made weird movements all the time and langa explained so then that night when miya got home, they did research on ts so they could understand it better. later, they told reki that whenever they called him a slime, they meant it purely about skateboarding and it had nothing to do with his tics—even that his tics didn’t make him less of a skater

all his life, reki had been the different one: the one no one wanted on the team because sometimes his tics messed him up, the one who was asked to leave classes during tests because his tics were too distracting and made him take the test in the hall, when sometimes he’d get too overwhelmed by how close people were in the halls or at races and would have panic attacks, how he rocked in his chair and adjusted his position seventeen times an hour and sat on his feet while the other kids didn’t, how he shook his legs more aggressively than others, how he couldn’t skate as well as everyone else because of his tics and because he wasn’t good enough

which is probably part of the depression that weighs on his shoulders

the first time reki had a panic attack during a race due to closeness and overstimulating noises (and this is the first one after the sk8 crew happened) langa was racing and wasn’t there to help, so shadow kind of panicked and like picked him up under the armpits and carried him away from the crowd since reki could barely process anything other than panic and the sound and feeling of static and they sat in shadow’s car for the rest of the race and once he felt better, he gave shadow a huge hug and shadow returned it.

one time it happened and cherry was nearby and he saw the signs before it got bad (remembered from the previous time / his own experiences) and helped talk reki down before it got bad (he has a soothing voice)

usually, though, when / if it happens (because reki usually feels safe there), langa is the one who helps

but it got so much worse after skating against adam the first time because he no longer felt safe and suddenly everyone cheering adam’s name even after witnessing what he did to reki was too much but langa was racing adam so langa wasn’t there and this time it was joe who kneeled in front of him and started talking just loud enough for reki to hear and he was like “you’re safe—we won’t let anyone hurt you. we won’t let him hurt langa. you’re safe. i’m here and so is cherry and shadow and miya and langa will be waiting for you at the end of the race…”

it happens again at the next race he goes to—and this time it’s miya who notices and they tug on langa’s sleeve and is like “i think you need to take reki somewhere else” and langa does :)

okay i’ll end on a positive ts note or two—langa asks reki to add the ts ribbon to the design on his skateboard

shadow finds chewelry at the store one day when he’s shopping and buys it for reki (and gets a matching one for langa!)

once reki came back after his mental health break, the first thing joe said to him was, and this is nonnegotiable “reki! i missed you and your tics!”

miya once overheard reki muttering to himself about his annoying tics were, so they intervened and was like “your tics aren’t annoying. they’re you and anyone who think s they’re annoying is an idiot”

and for the first time in his life, reki doesn’t feel alone and isolated and so different from everyone (at least, he’s working on that last one) and he’s finally found a group of people who want him on their team and a boyfriend who always supports him and makes him feel less isolated, tics and all <3

i uhh I have a lot of feelings,,,

great people of the jury, is it wrong to assume reki knew exactly what he was doing when he released the board from his hands, waited to run after it until it wheeled by langa, and effectively forced their true first meeting?

renga + their families headcanons

- reki Was bad at cooking but then when he starts sharing food from his bento with langa he wants to start learning to make it so him and his mom cook together

- he’s better at cooking than baking bc baking is so precise and he prefers to just go at it rather than follow a strict recipe

- langa loves his food :)

- langa only knows how to make like. Tacos spaghetti omurice grilled cheese pancakes etc things like that until he’s in his like third year reki ropes him into helping make food and he finds that its kinda fun

- (but he mostly likes to see reki cook bc somehow he makes even That seem lively and fun and natural almost like he dances around the kitchen instead of awkwardly fumbling through the chaos like langa himself does)

- so after that langa starts joining reki and masae when they cook :)

- he reki and masae all take turns looking after the twins when the other two are cooking so if masae thinks the two of them are all good she’ll leave them to it but other times she’ll be walking langa through a recipe and reki will be sitting at the table drawing with chihiro and nanaka and other times when its masae and reki langa will stand in the doorway with chihiro on his hip and nanaka sitting on the counter messing with his hair

- reki absolutely loves seeing langa with his sisters bc he’s cute and awkward but he tries so hard because he adores the three of them and they all equally adore him (and yeah he gets better at interacting with them over time, they kinda come to feel like his own siblings at some point)

- anytime reki comes home alone the twins are like :C wheres langa-kun 

- koyomi likes to tell langa about the drama and gossip at school and he always nods along and listens carefully even tho he definitely does not remember “that girl hina who stuck gum in ichikas hair in elementary school”

- he actually does pick up on some of the names and stories and stuff tho and koyomi will be talking to reki about something that happened at school and langas like oh is that the same girl who spilled juice on that guy she liked and rekis like wtf

- i just like to think langa actually puts in a lotta effort to have good relationships with all of rekis family partially bc he knows how much family means to reki and also bc he only has his mom and its nice to have sibling dynamics and talk to rekis mom about baby reki stories

- even tho langa could give a rats ass about american football somehow the topic is brought up and he ends up teaching (with his limited knowledge) and playing it with reki and his sisters one day out in their front yard

- and really theyre just running around a lot and doing underhand tosses with a random wiffle ball they found and letting the twins “score” and acting upset that they lost to “those two great athletes” just to make them giggle

- masae gets a video of them all playing together and sends it to reki who saves it and watches it at night to replay the moment langa scoops up chihiro and runs across the yard with her held up in the air and setting her down all grandiose like for a touchdown

- rekis constantly having to yell at koyomi not to just barge into his room

- she comes in one day her finger already pointed accusingly at reki as he sighs in exasperation and peels away from where he was cuddled into langas side and shes like “you took the last blue popsicle.” and rekis like “whaaaat no that was langa” and koyomi rolls her eyes and says “langa doesnt even like the blue ones you jerk” and then jumps on his bed and lays all spread out so reki fusses and pushes her off with his foot and they end up squabbling for a while all while langa sits there watching fondly amused

- reki always closes the door when him and langa are in his room but every time his mom comes in for anything she hovers in the doorway for a second longer and then leaves it open Just a crack which makes reki sigh dramatically as he gets up to toe it shut again

- after they make up in e10 they both get more touchy and clingy and just generally are less worried about their affection being rejected so it kinda becomes normal for them to cuddle

- like they would before but it was always under the guise of falling asleep in bed together and then oh wow we woke up literally glued together what a coincidence? How does this keep happening?

- but now its a little more intentional and even tho neither of them really bring it up reki will lay down on his bed all sprawled out and be like? You gonna lay down man? And then pull him into his side and press his face into langas shoulder

- or when they’re sitting against the wall on the bed reki will sling a leg over langas and rest his head on his shoulder and wrap an arm around his back 

- and langas still not very good at initiating that kind of physical affection but he always reciprocates it and longs for it

- i think theres this moment one day when langas helping his mom cook dinner and he’s chopping onions and she’s stirring something over the stove and he stops for a second and says “hey mom” and she looks at him a little bit hopeful and a little bit nervous like she always does in situations like these and he asks “could i… could i have a hug?”

- and its the first time theyve hugged since oliver’s funeral (aside from a couple side hugs like on the day they moved into their apartment in japan) and nanako tears up a little bit and tries not to get snot all over him and they stay there embracing for a good long while until whatever she’s cooking on the stove starts to boil a little too loudly and they finally pull away and get back to what theyre doing

- and i like to think that was kinda a turning point for them and langa starts to lean on her a little more and she gets less nervous every time he takes a longer than normal breath 

- on the rare occasion reki will curl up on the couch while his mom is watching some rerun of an old show and he’ll lean up against her and she’ll run her fingers through his hair 

- and on even rarer nights she’ll make just the two of them tea or hot chocolate and they’ll sit together talking and catching up while the television runs in the background and its on one of those nights he tells her just how much langa means to him

- and masae tears up just the tiniest bit bc there’s something so beautiful about seeing that kind of unadulterated fondness and love for someone and she’s so happy her son has langa in his life and they end the night cleaning out their mugs together and hugging

- (masae’s hugs are warm, maybe even warmer than joe and reki’s combined) 

- and the next time langa stays the night masae kisses them both on the head to say goodnight and smiles at the way reki laughs and teases langa about turning red because “he’s officially been accepted as part of the family now!” once she’s left the room and closed the door

- and every once in a while she’ll come in on a weekend morning to inform them breakfasts ready but see them curled up together, rekis hand fisted in the front of langas shirt, face buried in his chest, and langas leg and arm thrown haphazardly across reki’s body and their faces both so relaxed and content and she’ll leave them be to sleep a little while longer

It’s nearly three in the morning when Reki and Langa get back to Reki’s house, and Langa’s already planning on spending the night, but Reki isn’t quite ready to go to sleep yet. Because sleeping means tomorrow will be here, and then Langa will have to leave, and Reki still wants to spend more time with him. Even if it’s just a few extra moments standing in the moonlight outside the front door.

Reki searches his mind for something to say, but Langa beats him to it.

“The moon is really pretty tonight.”

Reki blinks. He turns and looks up. The full moon is shining down from a cloudless sky, glowing white and illuminating the empty darkness around it. Langa’s right - it is pretty. He looks back at Langa to tell him as much, but his breath catches in his throat when he sees the way Langa’s looking up at the sky, the moonlight reflected in his eyes. The ghost of a smile dances across his lips, and then he turns his gaze back on Reki.

“I wish we could see the stars better from here,” he whispers. “I wish we could see them how they are in Canada.”

Reki swallows thickly, trying to force himself to think about anything other than how pretty Langa is and how easy it would be to lean forward and close the small distance between them.

He won’t - he knows better. If he’s going to confess how he feels, he isn’t going to do it like that. And if he’s going to confess how he feels, he’s going to need to be absolutely sure that Langa feels the same, because keeping his feelings hidden is far better than the risk of losing Langa. He’ll do anything to keep Langa in his life, even if that means pushing down his ever-growing crush on his best friend until he eventually grows out of it.

“Yeah,” Reki’s voice comes out hoarse, and he hopes Langa doesn’t notice. “That would be nice. We’ll have to - t-t-t - to go somewhere with less light pollution sometime so we can see them better.”

Langa nods, then turns to face the sky once more, and Reki wishes he could somehow bring the Canadian sky here, over Okinawa, so Langa could see all the constellations he grew up looking at again. Unfortunately, he can’t move the sky, nor can he undo decades of light pollution.

But maybe he can make do with what they have.

He grabs Langa’s hand and pulls him out into the yard, plopping down in the grass and taking Langa with him. The grass is soft beneath them, and Reki lets his hand linger on Langa’s a moment longer than necessary.

“What—?”

“Tell me about the stars back in Canada, and we can pretend.”

Langa blinks and Reki’s lips flutter. He clicks his tongue.

“Okay,” Langa replies, slowly tilting his gaze upwards. “There’s a pretty big latitude difference between here and there, so there are some constellations I could see back in Canada that can’t be seen here. And there are some constellations here that can’t be seen in Canada.” He points at a star Reki can only barely make out. “That’s Polaris; the North Star. It’s pretty low in the sky here; it’s much higher in Canada, and you can see it better there too.”

Reki nods, listening as Langa walks him through the constellations he knows and points out stars that are in the sky but can’t be seen here. Langa explains that when you’re truly out in the middle of nowhere in Canada, the sky is less of a dark blanket with a few stars as pin holes sprinkled throughout it and more of a splattering of twinkling lights that set the night alight. And how, away from the cities and the lights, you can see the spiraling arms of the Milky Way stretching across the sky - the way you do in all those professional pictures of the night sky that Reki thought you needed special camera equipment to pick up.

Apparently, those pictures aren’t because of special lenses that can capture what the human eye can’t. You can just see that sort of stuff in the sky if you’re far enough away from the lights and the people.

(Reki has never wanted to visit Canada as much as he does right now, listening to Langa wax poetic about the stars.)

“If you ever come to Canada with me,” Langa says, “I’ll take you to see the stars how they’re supposed to be seen.”

“That sounds nice.”

“We’ll have to get you a good coat, though. The planets are best seen in the winter - they’re at their highest in the sky when the sun is at its lowest.”

Reki hums. He’s never been all that great at handling cold weather, but if Langa wants to take him to see the winter night sky in Canada, he’ll bundle up and follow along. It would be worth it.

“We could go in summer, though, if you don’t want the winter cold,” Langa suggests.

Reki shakes his head. “I’d go in winter for you. Then you could teach me to snowboard too.”

Langa grins, and Reki thinks maybe just that would be enough to keep him warm in a Canadian winter. Langa’s smile always sends warmth seeping through Reki, down to his bones, reminding him that Langa is real and Langa is his best friend and that he’s pretty much the luckiest person in the world because he can say that.

“Reki—” Langa starts, before abruptly cutting himself off.

Reki tilts his head and clicks his tongue. “What?”

Langa just looks at him, something Reki can’t name shining in his eyes, for several moments. It feels like infinity, but for once, Reki doesn’t mind the attention all that much. Only with Langa does the knowledge that someone is looking at him not make his skin crawl.

(Because when everyone else looks at him, they’re looking at the parts of him they want to pick apart and criticize. But when Langa looks at him, he’s looking at Reki.)

“I like your freckles,” is what Langa seems to finally settle on saying, and Reki feels his face start to heat up in response. But before he can even begin to concoct a response that makes sense and doesn’t sound too gay, Langa adds, “They’re really pretty.”

Reki blinks, hard.

A beat of silence.

“You’re really pretty too,” Reki hears himself say, and immediately wants to slap his hand over his mouth and take it all back. “I-I mean—”

“Really?”

Another beat of silence. Does Langa really not know that? Don’t all the girls at school compliment him all the time? How can he not know that he’s prettier than a sky full of stars, prettier than the ocean sparkling under the summer sun, prettier than anyone else Reki has ever seen in his life?

“Yeah,” Reki says honestly. “I mean… your eyes are like the ocean, and your smile can light up any room you walk into, and your hair looks so soft, and—” Reki stops himself before he can get too far into I’m definitely a little bit in love with you territory. “—um. Yeah.”

Langa’s eyes are wide, and Reki doesn’t know how he’s expecting him to respond, but it’s definitely not with, “Can I kiss you?”

“What,” Reki says, before he’s even really had time to comprehend what just came out of Langa’s mouth. Surely he didn’t hear him correctly; there’s no way. His fingers tap against his leg.

“Can I kiss you?” Langa repeats.

“Yes,” Reki breathes out, still half-convinced this is a dream he’s going to wake up from at any moment.

But then Langa closes the distance between them, bringing one hand up to cup Reki’s cheek, and Reki knows without a doubt that this is real. Langa’s mouth is warm and Reki can taste the peach soda he was drinking earlier on his lips. The kiss is sugary-sweet and clumsy and a little awkward and the grass is poking at Reki’s shins and Reki wants to spend the rest of his life being able to do this.

If Reki could pick any infinity to live in, he would pick this moment. With the taste of peach on his tongue, moonlight shining down on them, and a hope blossoming in Reki’s chest that says Everything is going to be alright.

Slowly, Langa pulls back, and Reki instinctively reaches out to keep him from going too far. His hand lands on Langa’s shoulder, and Langa rests his forehead against Reki’s. Reki blinks several times before letting his eyes slip shut.

“I think you’re really pretty too,” Langa whispers, sweet as sun-warmed strawberries. And for a moment, nothing in the world is wrong. For a moment, the entire world is just Reki and Langa and the lingering taste of peach soda and the grass beneath them and the knowledge that this closeness is something Reki gets to have now - something he gets to hold and cherish and tuck next to his heart.

Reki tilts his head, sealing their lips together once more.

The Real Me (IY: InuKag)

When @kalcia challenges you to write a fic that's 100k words, and gives you art to serve as inspiration, what else do you do but say, yes! That's how The Real Me began, and even though it's not 100k on Ao3 (yet), the fic is just about complete (I've been struggling with one last piece, and I think it's finally right), and it's one that we poured our hearts and souls into as we created it. This Inu is probably my favorite one I've ever written; he's immensely talented, broken, angry. Kagome heals his soul, puts him back together, piece by piece, and he does the same for her. There's a lot of me in this Inu; I wrote some of his more angsty moments during darker Fawnie periods, and so he is a character who was incredibly cathartic to create.

My Home, Your Heart (IY; InuKag)

I wrote this story for the amazing @hopidoodle, who also loves a good dark fic 🖤 I had been wanting to write a Frankenstein adaptation for Inu; my favorite part of Shelley's novel is when the 'monster' relays the tale of what happened to him after Frankenstein rejects him and he leaves the castle. That was the inspiration for this story. Adaptations are challenging, because you have to think about how to remain true to at least TWO sets of source material, but this one was very easy for me to envision (once I got started, lol). The Higurashis are the family that the 'monster' encounters in the original text; in a way, this was also a fix-it fic for me with regards to the original story (the 'monster' is not as accepted by the family as Inuyasha is) because I was able to give that the character the warmth and acceptance he so desperately needed.

The Walk Home (IY; InuKag)

A couple of things happened to make this fic come together. First, @dreaming-of-soup won my Tumblr story giveaway for The Tell, and she gifted me with a gorgeous piece of art to serve as inspiration for a one-shot. Then, at the same time, I had been rewatching the anime series Toradora, and I couldn't help but think of Ryuuji as inspiration for a version of Inuyasha. Put those two things together, and 50k words later, The Walk Home was born, and Soup was kind enough to collaborate with me, providing some really beautiful art to a number of chapters. This was one of those stories where the words just poured out of me, and I think I wrote it in about three weeks. But with Soup's artwork, how could I not be inspired???

I'll Always Catch You (BNHA; BakuDeku)

Oh, this story. Katsuki and Izuku are such a comfort ship, and this was another one that poured out of me. I was inspired by the BKDKangstmas event run over on Twitter, and I wanted to write a soft, hopelessly in love Katsuki who denies his feelings until something happens to Izuku (one of my favorite tropes for them and I will write it over and over forever). Thinking about the confession scene still makes my heart flutter.

Their One True Wish (Sk8; renga)

Like BakuDeku and InuKag, Reki and Langa have become another special ship for me. I basically have Sk8 on play most days when I am working from home; the first time I watched the angst arc of the anime, I sobbed on my elliptical. This is a series where the main character has to learn that it's okay to not be the best, that he has something very special to offer his friends, and he is loved not because of who he could be, but because of who he is 😭🥰

Their One True Wish is the first story I wrote for the Sk8 fandom, and it was for my friend and fellow Sk8 fan @roseheartwhitefox (although she is more of a matchablossom girl 💓💚). I needed some Christmas fluff to counteract the angst I was writing over in I'll Always Catch You, and Reki and Langa plotting to make Christmas special for each other was a perfect way to do just that. And Miya and Langa's mother playing Santa's helpers in this story gives me infinite joy 😂
