Finally saw my stuff in the folk art exhibit ! It opened a while ago, I've just been very busy. Still can't believe I got paid for this lol. And that they displayed the milkweed seeds I gave them !

Some other stuff I really loved ! Was fun, went with my partner and will go again next week with my mom, so I'll get to look at the exhibits again. Mine is like. Front and center, was not expecting that at all.

After seeing @orchardknit 's beautiful handmade supported spindles I decided I had to make my own! One thing led to another, and before long I realized maybe I could knit a wedding ring shawl with the alpaca fiber I had sitting around at home. Alas, this spindle is not a handwhittled creation because I only was able to go home for a brief period for Easter so modifying my cheap little homemade turkish spindle was faster, but once the semester ends I'm definitely trying my hand at the whittling!
This spindle didn't spin for very long at the beginning but it's getting better with more weight and better flicking technique! The spindle fills up so slowly with yarn this fine *pauses to measure wpi, loses count repeatedly* I think it's around 80 wpi though? Maybe more, my eyes were struggling.
*realizes I could have just marked out an inch long segment of the spindle shaft (bamboo kitchen skewer) and counted the wraps as I put them on to fill the inch segment*
I'm really enjoying the portability of spindling, I was able to pull out my little spindle and espresso cup spindle bowl while I was waiting around at my mock audition yesterday in studio class and I also cannot wait to spend some time in the sunshine spinning because we're having lovely weather this week!
I intend to make the Queen Susan Shawl, which is a lovely free pattern on ravelry with a great story behind it's creation, so 8 miles of singles, lovingly spun, here I come!
Edited to include hashtags bc I totally forgot those are a thing lmao

I fell into a pattern of simply filling up spindles over the last few months. So here’s the 100s of meters of thread that needs to be de-spindled, plyed, & finished.

You know you into yarn when you have headcanons about what spindles characters would particularly like, what they prefer to do with the yarn, what type of wheel spinner they are, and who has 17 projects going on at once (Anakin) vs who’s gonna focus almost entirely on one project as they go through thought spindle spinning a fine yarn, plying and washing enough of it for a blanket, immediately sticking it on the loom, and weaving a particularly intricate pattern (Obi-Wan) vs who’s the ‘I add the knots of silk and locks so that I can live in the moment and let chunks come out when they need to’ (as if I even have to say it, it’s Qui-Gon)-
ANYWAYS. I actually love yarn and think that yarn craft should be more in fics but that’s sorta like how lots of chefs and bakers make a lot of foodie fics like it’s nice but. Everyone eats. Not enough people care about Scottish spindles. Obi-Wan has 7 Scottish spindles and like 8 Turkish ones so he can make a blanket’s worth of yarn in a single go without having to unwind them and ply right away. Qui-Gon likes supported spindles and a traditional wheel. Anakin designs and makes his own electric spinners, electric yarn counters, and electric cone winders. And then he knits Padme shawls. Qui-Gon crochets blankets and keeps leaving them in the creche or outside random apartments in the temple. Obi-Wan weaves. Anakin spent 5 hours learning how to dye fiber in Padme’s favorite colours, made an electric wool carder to make batts of them, spent a solid 15 hours spinning enough for a massive shawl in lace weight yarn for his wife, knit her one, and then went back to his ADHD project hopping.
I have ideas!!!!!!

spinning at bus stops / on the bus is a wonderful source of serotonin. some people i’ve talked to worry about their fibre getting dirty or squashed etc. which is fair enough, but i personally like thinking about how spinning was historically something people carried with them and did whenever they had a spare moment. i like to think that Bus Spinning is continuing that tradition.
(currently spinning North Ronaldsey fleece that i thiiiiink has been hand carded. got it in a mystery fibre exchange so not sure! it’s an interesting spin; kind of sticky, and both rough but very soft? i’m kind of charmed by it tbh. suspect i should have spun it a little thicker, but too late now…)

15 Days of FatT: Day Three, Wheel
"When you get there, you see the cart that you were escorting slowly being rolled away."
This yarn is about long fingers that entangle wheels and steal carts.
Wool; mohair. Bouclé with pigtails in the binding strand.

Carved this spindle after work today. Found the stick on the street last month, no idea what kind it is. It is partially rotted and has a lot of spalting. Looks nice but it was hard to carve.

Made a big weird thing of yarn with a drop spindle and a collection of miscellaneous fibers and tiny pieces of scrap yarn harvested from the crafting rooms and supply closets of friends. There’s some wild textures and color combinations in there and I plan to make even more and then have one of my friends attempt to knit with it. I can’t wait to see how much it sucks and in which ways.
