Progress:
Okay so the authentication for spotify is hard for me to understand and requires user authentication, then making a token request that while expire in an hour. So i focused on what I did know how to do and what I had access to token wise. The Spotify developer home page has a temporary access token for demos. I took that token and made a function to make get request to the API and two functions for top tracks and top artists. Then made some functions to print them in my terminal. Here is what my end product looked like in the terminal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The data for tracks is proving to just show a years worth of listening even though I specified long_term in my get request.
Here is my code:
Tumblr media
I tried just doing track.artist but Spotify handles that as multiple artists so I had to handle them as such.
Next Steps: Tackling the user authentication and token requests and including it in this code.
(Also yes I know that is a concerning amount of My Chemical Romance tracks. I had my MCR phase strike up again with a passion last October and I am still balls deep in it.)

I tried artworkout and um…I promise I didn’t rush, I have too much free time.
THANK YOU ODETARI FOR MOTIVATION AGGGHHH
anyways, app is good for sketches and a time passer
There is SOME free drawing tutorials but they are just tracing and really suck.
The lines are…uncoordinated, but I love the pen for what it is, even if the app is rated very low and good for a sharp and unsteady art style
I might redraw the dev sketch but other than that, heres some music for you ✨Mamas✨
BYE MAMAS AGGGGGHHHHH🔥🔥‼️‼️

can someone who knows more than me about code and programming explain something to me rq im so confused. 😭 There isn't a single music player I've found that works well, but i use Spotify. The way it functions makes no sense to me at all. I love music so I'll make playlists that are like 10-20 hours long and its impossible for me to listen to all the songs on these playlists. The way Spotifys player works is it has a limit of like 70 songs it plays and then it starts over or moves on to the next songs, but not in order even if you have shuffle play turned off. If you have shuffle play on, it will shuffle 70 songs based on what it thinks you want to hear and shuffle those, there is not a function on the mobile app atleast where you can shuffle or play in order all of the songs on your playlist, which makes no sense to me. With the shuffle feature you end up listening to the same songs multiple times without ever getting to listen to some songs on your playlist. This seems very nonfunctional to me. 😭 is it because its more difficult to create mobile apps? Or is it because they think that ppl only want to hear around 70 songs so they didnt bother? But from the little i know it seems to me like it would be easier programming wise to just have it play all the songs in order, and when you hit shuffle randomly shuffle alll the songs, that code would be simpler then whatever the fuck they have going on unless im mistaken?? I really don't know but it makes no sense to me and i just want an app where i can play all the songs on my playlist, because i added them to the playlist for the sole purpose of hearing them play. Sorry for this rant im so confused 😭 like yes im autistic i care about this more than the average person, most ppl dgaf but wouldn't it be easier to make it functional? also if there is an app out there that works well for music enjoyers pls tell me or im going to have to make my own fucking app im so annoyed
also sorry if none of this makes sense i barely proof read

spotify wrapped 2024
it‘s finally here omg! archiving it on here again like last year :)
a few thoughts beforehand: is it just me or was this year kinda lacking? normally there’s always an extra, “special” category like in 2023 or 2022 the “you listened like this city”, but nothing really like that this year. felt a bit lacklustre
especially since there’s also no genre ranking I WANT MY TOP 5 GENRES where are they fjfjfkfkfk
anyway

Apps You're Probably Going to Need
Too Good to Go: app that connects you to grocery stores and restaurants that will sell you surplus food at cheaper prices.
Signal: Messaging app that erases messages after an amount of time, and allows images to be viewable once.
Taimi: an ĻGBṬ dating app that doesn't allow screenshots of messages and profiles to be taken.
Bandcamp: a great website for music artists, podcasters, and audiobook creators. They pay artists more of the profits than Spotify, and have Fridays dedicated to giving artists all of the profits from sales.
Proton: app that offers privacy and encryption for emails, VPNs, and a lot more.
Community Garden: an app that helps make community garden development easier.
Vero: an Instagram alternative that doesn't use algorithms, data mining, or advertisements. An alternative to go to when Instagram worsens in the upcoming years.
Hygiene Locator: a database for low-income people to find distribution sites giving away hygiene products.
Triller: a TikTok alternative to go to if TT outright bans certain topics.
Little Free Library: an app that locates little free libraries for you.
Evidation: it's a "health app" in which you collect points for activities like walking, but you can just complete their weekly and daily surveys. Basically, it's a beer-monęy app because you can only get $10 for 10,000 points, but if you have time to kill and need to earn extra cash in the upcoming eçonomic crash, evidation is an option.
Farmish: an app to help you locate your local farmer's market.
Boycat: an app that helps customers determine which brand is participating in unethical human rights violations and which isn't . It has recently partnered with the BDS movement!
Bluesky: You've already heard of it, right? It's an alternative to Twịtter, except it gives you the option to mass block MÅGÅ, genocide supporters, and the like. (My profile is itisiives, if you want to hang.)
Food Co-op Finder: As the name says, you can use this app to find your nearby food/grocery co-ops. Since co-ops mostly sell locally grown and made foods, this would be helpful in the looming deregulation of food safety.

Felassan's notes section of this post -
In this episode of the Game Informer show, Game Informer talk some more about their trip to BioWare's studio for the DA:TV cover story, when BioWare showed them hours of DA:TV content while playing it live.
Some notes from this and from what they said:
Wesley LeBlanc wasn't a huge DA fan and he went in with no expectations. The job to go to BW for this just landed on his plate due to other peoples' schedules. After seeing the game, it's probably his most anticipated game for the rest of the year and the one he's most looking forwards to
The game really wowed him and stuck with him, he said he is thrilled about it and is engrossed in the fantasy it's bringing
The visuals and world finally feel like what BioWare has maybe always wanted to make
This is the game where the team said, yeah, we feel fully in command of the Frostbite engine, and it shows
The world is more like Fable-type whimsy than prior DA games. It has a high fantasy feel
BW want new people to play the game. They're very aware that it's been 10 years since the last game and the game does a good job of catching people up
Rook as the PC really has no idea what's going on with Solas and all the other lore-specific stuff that's happening in the game, so they kind of act as the stand-in for newer players or people who have not caught up on the lore
But it's not just a game for newcomers, there is still a lot to chew on in the game for hardcore DA fans. BioWare were saying that they know their community, what it wants and what it's looking for out of these characters
Wesley enjoyed the music, visual design, and voice acting
Nothing that they saw about the game stood out as worrisome to him
Wesley has quite a lot of further stories to add to Game Informer's DA:TV hub
Wesley: "On the topic of the [Dragon Age] fanbase, I just wanna give a shoutout to that community, because, wow, I did not, I knew people would be stoked about this cover, but people are really stoked about this cover. And it’s really funny, the day that we announced it, I got like hundreds of new followers. Anytime, if I tweet about Erdtree or Destiny 2, I get like my normal amount of likes, like, a dozen maybe, y’know, whatever. If I tweet about Dragon Age, it’s like. Today I tweeted, ‘my next feature is coming at 3pm’ and it’s at 1000 likes, it’s so funny, like, this community is like rabid for information, which makes sense if you haven’t gotten a game in 10 years. But yeah, so like, shoutout to y’all, I’m loving you guys reading the articles and telling me what you wanna hear about. So if you have any questions or anything, get at me on Twitter for sure, and I will see what I can cook up with some writing for you. But yeah, shoutout to the BioWare community, y’all crazy.”

https://www.tumblr.com/sturniololuvz/782670591180292096/guys-my-inbox-is-empty-i-dont-know-how-to-its
can you do one where y/n is like the type of person who’s like “tough” so she doesn’t rlly express emotions much and bottles them up and say them in her notes app and like cries alone and stuff then one day she left her phone unlocked and matt saw the notes and tells nick and chris and they comfort her and stuff pls?
(based off personal experience 😭)
“The Things She Doesn’t Say”
Y/N wasn’t the type to spill her emotions out loud.
Not because she didn’t feel things — she just didn’t like being vulnerable. Growing up with three brothers, she’d quickly developed a tough exterior. Jokes instead of honesty, sarcasm instead of sadness. The only place she ever really let those feelings breathe was her Notes app.
And no one ever had to know.
Until she forgot to lock her phone.
It was a regular afternoon, everyone sprawled across the living room while Matt scrolled through his sister’s playlist on her phone. She was in the kitchen grabbing a snack, telling them to “pick something that wasn’t Nick’s terrible EDM.”
He chuckled to himself as he scrolled, waiting for Spotify to load when a notification popped up.
Reminder:
Stop pretending you’re fine. You’re not.
Matt furrowed his brows. It didn’t seem like a typical reminder. Curiosity got the best of him, and before guilt could even register, he tapped into her Notes app.
The first thing that caught his eye was the sheer number of entries.
“I don’t know how to ask for help without feeling like a burden.”
“Why does it feel like everyone would be fine without me?”
“I’m tired of pretending I’m tough when I feel like I’m falling apart.”
Matt’s chest tightened. He scrolled further and saw more—months’ worth of thoughts she’d never spoken. Anxiety about school, feeling overlooked, moments where loneliness drowned her even when she was surrounded by people who loved her.
“Everything ok?” Nick asked from across the couch.
Matt swallowed hard, locking the phone and setting it down.
“Can you guys come here for a sec?” he mumbled, his usual chill demeanor gone.
Chris raised a brow but stood up. “What’s up?”
Matt glanced toward the kitchen. Y/N was laughing to herself as she rummaged through the pantry, completely unaware.
“I just saw something on her phone,” Matt said quietly. “She’s been… holding in a lot of stuff. Like—a lot.”
Nick’s expression shifted immediately, worry replacing confusion. “What do you mean?”
“She’s not okay, dude,” Matt said, keeping his voice low. “She’s been bottling everything up.”
Chris’s jaw clenched, guilt creeping in. “Why didn’t she tell us?”
“We never really give her the space to,” Nick said softly. “She always acts tough, so we just… assumed she was fine.”
The realization hit all of them at once.
She wasn’t fine.
And no one noticed.
When Y/N walked back into the living room with chips in hand, she froze at the sight of her brothers’ serious faces.
“What?” she asked, an uneasy laugh bubbling up. “Why do you guys look like someone died?”
“Come here for a sec?” Matt said gently.
Her walls went up immediately, fake nonchalance creeping in. “Why? Did Chris finally break something expensive?”
“No,” Chris said softly, shaking his head. “This isn’t about us.”
Nick patted the spot next to him on the couch. “We need to talk about you.”
Y/N’s stomach dropped, her defenses scrambling into place. “I’m fine. Seriously, what’s—”
“We know you’re not,” Matt cut in gently. “I saw the notes on your phone.”
Her breath caught in her throat. The panic hit immediately—her face flushing, her mind already spinning with excuses.
“I—those are just random thoughts,” she muttered, trying to laugh it off. “It’s not a big—”
“It is a big deal,” Chris said, eyes softer than she’d ever seen. “You’re carrying all of that by yourself.”
Her chest tightened as tears pricked her eyes, the weight of everything she hadn’t said crashing over her.
“I didn’t want to bother you guys,” she whispered, voice cracking despite her best efforts. “I didn’t want to feel… weak.”
Matt pulled her into a hug before she could stop the tears from falling.
“Feeling things doesn’t make you weak,” he murmured, rubbing her back. “You don’t have to be tough all the time. Not with us.”
Nick rested a hand on her leg, his usual teasing replaced with concern. “You’ve been taking care of yourself quietly for too long. Let us take care of you for once, yeah?”
Chris leaned into the group hug, his voice barely above a whisper. “You’re never a burden—ever. I’m sorry we made you feel like you had to keep it all in.”
Her tears finally slipped free as she buried her face into Matt’s hoodie, the weight she’d been carrying alone for so long crashing down in the safety of her brothers’ arms.
For once, she didn’t have to be “the tough one.”
For once, she let herself be seen.
And they made sure she knew, without a doubt, that they would always be there for her—no matter how loud or quiet her struggles were.

ever wonder why spotify/discord/teams desktop apps kind of suck?
i don't do a lot of long form posts but. I realized that so many people aren't aware that a lot of the enshittification of using computers in the past decade or so has a lot to do with embedded webapps becoming so frequently used instead of creating native programs. and boy do i have some thoughts about this.
for those who are not blessed/cursed with computers knowledge Basically most (graphical) programs used to be native programs (ever since we started widely using a graphical interface instead of just a text-based terminal). these are apps that feel like when you open up the settings on your computer, and one of the factors that make windows and mac programs look different (bc they use a different design language!) this was the standard for a long long time - your emails were served to you in a special email application like thunderbird or outlook, your documents were processed in something like microsoft word (again. On your own computer!). same goes for calendars, calculators, spreadsheets, and a whole bunch more - crucially, your computer didn't depend on the internet to do basic things, but being connected to the web was very much an appreciated luxury!
that leads us to the eventual rise of webapps that we are all so painfully familiar with today - gmail dot com/outlook, google docs, google/microsoft calendar, and so on. as html/css/js technology grew beyond just displaying text images and such, it became clear that it could be a lot more convenient to just run programs on some server somewhere, and serve the front end on a web interface for anyone to use. this is really very convenient!!!! it Also means a huge concentration of power (notice how suddenly google is one company providing you the SERVICE) - you're renting instead of owning. which means google is your landlord - the services you use every day are first and foremost means of hitting the year over year profit quota. its a pretty sweet deal to have a free email account in exchange for ads! email accounts used to be paid (simply because the provider had to store your emails somewhere. which takes up storage space which is physical hard drives), but now the standard as of hotmail/yahoo/gmail is to just provide a free service and shove ads in as much as you need to.
webapps can do a lot of things, but they didn't immediately replace software like skype or code editors or music players - software that requires more heavy system interaction or snappy audio/visual responses. in 2013, the electron framework came out - a way of packaging up a bundle of html/css/js into a neat little crossplatform application that could be downloaded and run like any other native application. there were significant upsides to this - web developers could suddenly use their webapp skills to build desktop applications that ran on any computer as long as it could support chrome*! the first applications to be built on electron were the late code editor atom (rest in peace), but soon a whole lot of companies took note! some notable contemporary applications that use electron, or a similar webapp-embedded-in-a-little-chrome as a base are:
microsoft teams
notion
vscode
discord
spotify
anyone! who has paid even a little bit of attention to their computer - especially when using older/budget computers - know just how much having chrome open can slow down your computer (firefox as well to a lesser extent. because its just built better <3)
whenever you have one of these programs open on your computer, it's running in a one-tab chrome browser. there is a whole extra chrome open just to run your discord. if you have discord, spotify, and notion open all at once, along with chrome itself, that's four chromes. needless to say, this uses a LOT of resources to deliver applications that are often much less polished and less integrated with the rest of the operating system. it also means that if you have no internet connection, sometimes the apps straight up do not work, since much of them rely heavily on being connected to their servers, where the heavy lifting is done.
taking this idea to the very furthest is the concept of chromebooks - dinky little laptops that were created to only run a web browser and webapps - simply a vessel to access the google dot com mothership. they have gotten better at running offline android/linux applications, but often the $200 chromebooks that are bought in bulk have almost no processing power of their own - why would you even need it? you have everything you could possibly need in the warm embrace of google!
all in all the average person in the modern age, using computers in the mainstream way, owns very little of their means of computing.
i started this post as a rant about the electron/webapp framework because i think that it sucks and it displaces proper programs. and now ive swiveled into getting pissed off at software services which is in honestly the core issue. and i think things can be better!!!!!!!!!!! but to think about better computing culture one has to imagine living outside of capitalism.
i'm not the one to try to explain permacomputing specifically because there's already wonderful literature ^ but if anything here interested you, read this!!!!!!!!!! there is a beautiful world where computers live for decades and do less but do it well. and you just own it. come frolic with me Okay ? :]
*when i say chrome i technically mean chromium. but functionally it's same thing

ninjamuffin newgrounds post!
tl;dr
fuck ads!! use adblocker whenever you can!!
the crew tries to make fnf as ad-free as possible, not just the game but where you download it- it's why it's on itch/newgrounds and not anywhere that offers ad revenue
that being said, fnf mobile will likely have a free version which... will have ads. they will try not to make the ads too obnoxious
(there will be an ad-free paid version too!)
extra note from me, not the post: if you're an android user you totally shouldn't use youtube revanced and purpletv or anything for mobile youtube and twitch adblockers. it would be such a hindrance to the advertisers. ha ha
full post copied below ⬇️
greetings and merry xmas newgrounds
on my brain for a very long time has been advertisements. Something about ads that stick in my brain ever since I came across this little thing from Lichess.
Tumblr media
In due time, unfortunately this post will become a bit hypocritical, as we will eventually publish FNF onto mobile, and that will very likely have a free ad supported version. Hopefully that doesn't undermine my thoughts too much, however FNF is more than just me and my brain! Not everything I say goes in terms of FNF decisions! So with all that being said, let me begin shouting about everything I hate about ads.
I use adblocker on everything, and you should too. UBlock Origin has been my reliable go to. Online ads are especially an insidious breed. I'll try not to be some tinfoil hat, but I do often wonder what the internet would look like if the online ad model *wasn't* fruitful back in the early days of the internet. Would Facebook, Google, etc. have an arms race to the bottom to get infinite amounts of data on every single person ever? Would social media algorithms optimize for a different experience other than *spend as much time as possible on our site*? Ads have existed before Youtube, Google, internet though. They exist on TV, on subways and buses, on radio, in newspapers. I think for the most part my deep hatred of ads is for online kind, I do think there can be "irl" ads that I find very unpleasant. Going on a subway or sitting at a bus stop, I think people deserve more dignity from their city public transit than to have something sold to them! I don't think an ad free life should be only reserved for those who can pay for spotify premium, youtube red, etc. I think everyone should be entitled to that DIGNITY.
X (the everything app, formerly Twitter ) has a Premium subscription that costs 10$/month (CAD), and they will only give you *half* the ads in your feed. How generous of them. I will be dramatic, and say that I look at ads with disgust. I hope to think I'm somewhat justified, as most ads look like dogshit, and are pretty worthless.
For a very long time (and currently, as of writing/posting) FNF has been entirely ad free. We did stand up to putting it on other web portals that offer ads and ad payments/rev share, because we do somewhat want to be part of the change we'd like to see in the world. We want to believe in a world where someone can put out a free game on itch/newgrounds, and have the development be supported purely off donations (which FNF was supported by that in the early days / first 6 months of development!). We definitely could have made much MUCH more money if we put FNF on websites that offer ad rev share, but we didn't, and I hope that doesn't fall on deaf ears.
However we do promote our own things from within the game, Kickstarter, merch, etc. I suppose I'm less upset or even thinking about that, I think there's a big difference if we had a lil Kickstarter trailer in-game that played, opposed to having an in-game advertisement for some fuckass mobile game or some cosmetics or somethin. We specifically are still curating what we are putting in the game with our lil links to merch, kickstarter, etc.
We also provide the soundtrack on Spotify / streaming services, which do indeed get money from ads. I think I'm so detatched from Spotify ads and being angry at them, since I've been spotify premium user even at the brokest poorest in my life... i need them album downloads!!! I do think that's an aspect where there is an adfree alternative, which is Bandcmap, where you can listen to the FNF OST as much as you want, and if you pay some coin, you can download it in high quality!
My thoughts on FNF mobile with ads is that they will make me very unhappy and deeply sad. I do sincerely apologize to those of you who would be unable to play FNF on anything other than a mobile device, and aren't able to get the full mobile version, so you become punished with ads. We do hope to not be obnoxious with mobile ads. If you have a computer, even a shitty busted one that runs slow, I personally hope you end up compiling the mobile version yourself to get past ads. The thought of that lets me rest easier just a little bit. The FNF will be proudly open source forever.
There will also be a paid version of FNF mobile, that will have no ads. Pay for that one if you please.

sharing this since most, if not all, of my pals here listen to music.
if you haven’t heard about the latest evil moves Spotify is making, take the time to educate yourself. remember that music streaming was developed in response to the labels’ inability to staunch piracy, and instead of supporting the artists, streaming platforms essentially found ways to profit off legalizing said piracy by becoming a well-paid middle man. the artists still see fractions of pennies per stream, which means only major artists who make most of their money elsewhere anyway get any payout, and streaming platforms are constantly trying to find new loopholes to keep even that meager revenue. it’s time to cancel your Spotify subscriptions and delete the app entirely; they still get ad revenue from listening for free.
other platforms may be *slightly* less overtly evil, but i strongly encourage moving back to building personal music libraries. physical media and even digital collections stored and played on your devices are more sustainable and give you more agency and control over your music listening. it also means that if a streaming site shuts down or the licensing lapses on a particular album, your music won’t be lost to you forever.

SONIC PRIME: MEGA MIX
Tumblr media
Last Christmas, I made what some would call a Sonic Prime "fan edit." I didn't set out to make one, but it all began when I experimented with a few glitch apps on my iPhone while listening to my Spotify techno mix and using some Sonic footage stored on my phone. Before I knew it, I'd fallen down a rabbit hole, and it quickly developed into a full-on music video.
I've always listened to Techno, Industrial, EBM, or old-school gutter Punk whenever I would draw Sonic storyboards. It always sets the mood for drawing action scenes. One song in particular that always got the best drawings out of me was Expo 2000 by Kraftwerk (Orbital mix), so I set my edits to that one. The result is a Sonic Prime megamix music video encompassing all three seasons (just the highlights from episodes I got to direct/more or less) in under five minutes. It might be the best way to watch season three. 💣 😅
So here it is. I hope you enjoy the edit.

made the foolish decision to glance at the substack app over the weekend. perhaps never again.
tortured myself by reading an awful analysis of why sabrina carpenter being 5'0, cherub-faced, and, to condense a lot of diabolic tip-toeing, slutty panders to pedophiles. ok. no. rlly, no. i understand the new album cover being controversial (my initial reason to consider sabrina thinkpieces in the first place), but what a gradually contrived, nauseating, bad-faith read with thousands of accolades (guys i fall for bad writing too, but making outrageous claims like this within the title? thinking caps first.) this is part of a broader problem where essayists try to create a cultural dissection of a figure or fandom from a drastically hateful perspective but lack any intimate insight of the lore/creator background/timeline to develop any substantial merit to their thesis that isn't a false equivalence or broad sweeping statement about society that places the blame for—in this instance—misogyny and men's predatory behaviour on the shoulders of a pop singer. the author insisting they're a fan of sabrina carpenter bc they have espresso on their spotify playlist and then proceeds to prove they know nothing about her aesthetic (mistakenly labelled as 90s nostalgic throwback???), her audience, or even her sudden elevation into pop-stardom bc her immediate goal must be to pander to men when her primary listeners are women asdijfes. ok. what a maddening read.
