The image of her

Something I’ve taken note of is that even in Hadestown where everyone’s covered in soot, dirt and grime…Eurydice isn’t. She is pristine. Untouched. Unmarked. She is so clean she practically glows. This is especially apparent once Orpheus finds her, he’s scraped up and dirty from the journey and yet she’s remarkably well kept.. he only gets worse mentally and physically after the other Shades/workers gang up on him. Even at the very end Eurydice is stunning.

Do not take this as a ‘she isn’t working hard’ no, it’s a slow process. Memory loss is a much quicker thing, especially mythologically. And at this time she’s still relatively new to the town she might have some small sliver of favor from Hades… which of the bare minimum reward is not being filthy from the mines? Yikes. But I don’t think this is exactly it either… let’s talk myth again.

In some versions, some people claim that it is not Eurydice that is presented to Orpheus but a illusion, an image. She will only be ‘real’ if they both make it out etc. I don’t completely think that is true here as we actively see her perspective multiple times but what I think it might be is— we’re seeing her through his eyes. Through his guilt, his grief and his love for her. Of corse she stands out, of corse she’s unmarked! She didn’t do anything!

I also like the contrast to her look in act one. Eurydice is a very cautious person initially, her trust doesn’t come easily and she struggles to open up to people. When turned from winter/spring to summer it took her a minute to talk her coat off and warm up to everyone. Her clothes and jewelry hide her, hide her skin and shape from everyone. I like how it’s a literal opening up to Orpheus when her coat is off and it becomes serious/not just playing. And I like how it plays differently in act two as in both situations she is stripped down to her truest self- completely vulnerable. Only this time it’s not with someone she loves but it was done out of force. She has nothing else. Now she’s losing that and it won’t belong til she’s covered in dirt too. This is the musical for parallels, callbacks and mirroring and I — yes.

Could I be looking to deep into a “we just forgot to put makeup on her arms” maybe. I dunno.

love media that’s like- found family but only because they’re literally trapped together. found family but they don’t even like each other in the beginning. forced found family. like we are all completely different types of people and we do not get along but we don’t have a choice to not be around each other. We fight constantly but there’s nowhere else to go and no one else to turn to so we have to be here for each other. we find a kinship in each other not because we like or understand each other, but because we have no other option. and maybe in the end we’re half grateful for that. maybe we find that we care about each other more then we think. maybe it turns out we are a family after all.

Anyways still thinking about Hermes having to introduce Orpheus to the audience twice because he doesn’t hear them [Hermes and audience] the first time. Which is both adorable and it establishes how sometimes he just doesn’t hear you, not because he’s trying to but he gets a little lost ™️ sometimes. Thus - not hearing Eurydice in the storm.

when you went to law school, did you only have a bachelors in graphic design? i heard you could only do lawschool if you already did university and got a degree. i’ve been interested in law for years but the length of time and price threw me way off. im 23 now and just starting in an engineering degree and now im second guessing myself again 😭

I feel like maybe I'm not following this ask precisely, but yeah, I had a double-major Bachelor of Fine Arts when I went to law school. In most states of the US, you need some kind of bachelor's degree to apply to law school, and you get a Juris Doctor at the end of it. If you then also pass the Bar Exam, and pass the character & fitness review, and the Professional Responsibility exam, then you're licensed to practice law and can call yourself an attorney.

Some attorneys go back and get legal Master's degrees, but it's not a prereq for the JD and is usually more about specialization than anything else. Most people do not start their JD with a Master's.

So if your engineering degree is a Bachelor's, not an Associate's, then yeah, you could go to law school afterwards if you did well on the law school entry exam, which is called the LSAT. The Bachelor's doesn't have to be in prelaw necessarily, it can be whatever.

Also, it's not unusual for people to add "lawyer" as a new thing on top of an existing career. Because the field is so broad and touches so many areas of expertise, many people chose to go to law school after working in an industry and deciding they want to also practice law in relation to that field. It's not a bad thing to put the Bachelor's degree to work for a while before deciding if you want to do the law thing.

my view of ivan sua is very much "ivan is willing to break the system for till, but till wont follow him"
