Shishania aculeata lived during the mid-Cambrian, around 512 million years ago, in shallow tropical waters covering what is now southwestern China.
Up to about 6cm in length (~2.4"), its spine-covered body was initially thought to be an early mollusc, but the discovery of more specimens has resulted in a new interpretation: instead of a slug-like creature, the fossils of Shishania might instead represent a flattened and ruptured chancelloriid.
Chancelloriids were an enigmatic group of Cambrian animals that had hollow bag-like bodies armored with numerous sharp star-shaped spines. They were historically classified as sponges due to their similar body plan and immobile filter-feeding lifestyle, and they've also been proposed to be relatives of halkieriid molluscs due to similarities in the microscopic structure of their spines – but currently it seems most likely that chancelloriids were actually their own separate lineage of early animals, closer related to eumetazoans than to sponges.
Shishania had much simpler spines than other chancelloriids, so it may represent an early stage of the evolution of these animals' armor, showing that these structures were developed from scratch rather than adapted from a pre-existing ancestral feature.

🎪 4 of 5 - Gifting
WC: ~450 Warnings: nsfw, Buggy x GN!reader, oral (kinda) - reader receiving
💌 #hey-august valentines 2025
Tumblr media
First it was a fresh drink of ale. And a hand pie that was still steaming when you bit into it.
After visiting an island with netted seats hanging from trees along the seaside where you spent multiple afternoons, Buggy had hammock chairs installed on the ship’s deck.
One morning you woke up to a notebook and pen. Behind the flyleaf was your name, written in Buggy’s scratchy handwriting. Buggy liked how the pen’s ink was the same color of your eyes, even down to the shimmer that made the stars envious.
Buggy made a meal that you mentioned months ago. Your grandma would make a stew that was swimming with strong flavors and aromas - ginger and black peppercorns, salt from the soy sauce, and vinegar. You only mentioned it because Buggy’s pits were so fragrant that the tang reminded you of how heavy handed your grandma was with the vinegar when she cooked.
That meal tasted like home.
Whenever you visited beaches during the journey’s pause, you would walk with the sea on one side and Buggy on the other. For a while. Eventually the pirate would stop walking and do everything else. He’d kick aside rocks, flip driftwood, pick up unknown treasures only to toss them over his shoulder - all while talking to you about everything and nothing.
And back on the ship, at the end of the day, Buggy would empty his pockets of all the things he brought back for you. The abandoned home of a sea snail. Small shells with holes drilled in them by hungrier creatures. Wishing stones that Buggy would hold up excitedly and show you the completed stripe. Little fossils in the shape of stars, which ended up everywhere. Sand dollars. Sea glass in all hues. And one time, a cowrie shell with a very confused hermit crab.
There are also the gifts that Buggy benefits from, as well.
All sorts of fresh fruit that he cuts bite by bite, with each slice alternating between your mouth and his. A wedge of apple for you and one for him. Pineapple so juicy that he has to swipe a drop of nectar off your bottom lip with his thumb. Plump grapes with skin that snaps. Peaches that would bruise if you look at them for too long. Bananas that Buggy hands to you - uncut and with a wink.
And the clothing. Especially the collection of undergarments that doesn’t outgrow the storage space, only because of how often they end up ruined. Lipstick marks that won’t wash away. Ones that are torn off by hands, teeth, or blades. Cumstains.
Buggy’s favorite are the ones made of silk. He likes how you shiver against the cool fabric. He watches every goofy dance you do when putting them on, enjoying your silly show of appreciation. He chooses items that are made for your body. Ones that drape exactly where they should. That hug you just right. That show off your assets while still keeping things hidden.
He also likes watching you make a mess of your underwear. The wet spot that grows along with your excitement is a treat for him. Literally. Buggy will get you worked up with hungry kisses that leave you breathless and drooling. He’ll say naughty things and offer the sweetest promises. He’ll make you repeat every word he’s said, until you’re pleading and begging for more filth than what came from his lips.
And when your gift is soaking wet and you're about to take matters into your own hands, the gift changes owners. With his hands on your wrists and his face between your legs, Buggy is sucking your taste from the fabric. Your arousal is replaced with his spit.
The thin fabric lets you feel plenty and not enough. You can feel the heat from his mouth and the vibrations from his moaning, but not his breath. His tongue presses hard and the pressure is delightful, but not better than feeling the rough, wet affection directly.
Yes, Buggy likes to give you gifts. But when it’s his turn to enjoy one, he’s going to take his time.

The Lunatics’ Parade: 2025 — Twilight of the Absurd
In the House once bright, now dimmed with decay,
The Lunatics gathered at the end of the day.
Trump sat high on a throne of skulls,
Drinking Diet Coke from patriotic hulls.
He growled, “I’m chosen, I walk with the stars!”
Then misread the map and invaded Mars.
His cabinet danced to a banshee choir,
The smoke smelled like steak and executive fire.
JD Vance, Vice King of Hillbilly Hell,
Chanted slogans that rang like a Liberty Bell,
Cracked, confused, and wrapped in a flag,
Waving a torch while dragging a bag.
Rubio, the Floridian fish,
Spoke fluent evasion and granted no wish.
At State, he served diplomacy fried,
With a side of “thoughts and prayers” deep-fried.
Pete Hegseth, in camo and rage,
Declared war on books, and peace on the page.
With a bayonet pen and a helmet of lies,
He saluted the mirror with blood in his eyes.
Pam Bondi, Attorney of Doom,
Summoned subpoenas like witches in gloom.
She cross-examined ghosts and grilled thin air,
Then charged the moon with improper care.
Scott Bessent, at Treasury's gate,
Laughed while tossing coins into fate.
“Who needs math?” he asked the void.
As the dollar collapsed and Wall Street enjoyed.
Linda McMahon, the duchess of schools,
Taught “Critical Wrestling Theory” in pools.
Kids tapped out before they could read,
As she body-slammed teachers for sport and for creed.
RFK Jr., czar of the sick,
Fed vaccines to frogs with a mercury stick.
He cured the flu with lavender tears,
And called science a hoax for 73 years.
Tulsi, now whisperer of state secrets grim,
Broadcast mind-rays through every gym.
She blinked twice and satellites fell.
Then blamed it all on a gender reveal.
Duffy, Transport, paved the sky,
With TikTok lanes and jetpack pie.
No roads, no rules, just viral speed.
“Crash responsibly!” his only creed.
Brooke Rollins, in fields of ash,
Grew mutant corn with campaign cash.
Each stalk saluted, each ear did weep,
For deregulated soil that’ll never sleep.
Howard Lutnick, selling fate,
Traded ethics at a discount rate.
Commerce turned into a feast,
Where corporations dined on the Middle East.
Kristi Noem, Homeland’s queen,
Patrolled the plains with a killing machine.
She hunted threats both foreign and mild.
And shot her own shadow, then blamed a child.
Lee Zeldin, the smog baron bold,
Bottled fresh air and sold it as gold.
The EPA now stood for Everything Pollutes Always,
And rain came down in three-headed grays.
Kelly Loeffler, Small Biz, ran a scheme,
Where lemonade stands paid in Bitcoin dreams.
She smiled while taxing charity jars,
And built a Starbucks on Venus and Mars.
Ratcliffe, at CIA, watched with glee,
As pigeons turned spies for a nominal fee.
He tapped into dreams and rewrote the past.
Then tweeted classified info… fast.
Elon and Vivek, efficiency beasts,
Replaced Congress with AI priests.
The algorithms wept, the servers bled.
And democracy was quietly pronounced dead.
Stephen Miller, the hollow-eyed ghoul,
Wrote policies using virgin fossil fuel.
He whispered fear into the law,
And shaped it sharp with his demonic claw.
Susie Wiles, behind the veil,
Pulled strings like a sorceress pale.
Each move she made, a shadow would shift,
And the Earth would tilt, and the tides would lift.
And then she came, Marjorie Greene,
On a chariot made from a gym machine.
Draped in flags and CrossFit glory, Screaming,
“Demons run Congress! This is God’s story!”
She tossed books into holy flame,
While claiming Bigfoot knew her name. Laser-eyed and
Bible-armed, She stormed the stage, unvaccinated and charmed.
Last, Karoline Leavitt, voice of the throne,
Spoke in riddles, her heart a stone.
“Truth is treason,” she hissed with grace,
As her smile cracked wide across her face.
She briefed the press with puppets and flame,
Then blamed “the woke” for losing the game.
So Trump and his gang of Lunatics marched, flags aflame,
Waltzing through history with no sense of shame.
The night was their kingdom, the facts were all gone,
And satire died with the morning dawn.
So here’s to the cabinet, wild and unchained,
A circus of chaos, darkly ordained.
The nation watches, hands on their heads,
As the Lunatics’ Parade paints the town red.
The end.

Round 2 - Chordata - Ascidiacea
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Sources - 1, 2, 3, 4)
Ascidiacea is a paraphyletic class, so I am also including Thaliacea here. Ascidiacea, commonly called “Sea Squirts”, and Thaliacea, commonly called “salps”, “pyrosomes”, and “doliolids”, are tunicates: invertebrate chordates whose larvae begin life as free-swimming, tadpole-like larvae with rudimentary brains, light sensors, a dorsal nerve chord, and a notochord, before they metamorphize into their adult forms.
Adult Ascidians are sac-like, sessile, filter-feeding animals. They feed using two tubular openings, called siphons, through which they draw in and expel water. Some species live as solitary individuals, some are social, while others replicate by budding and become large colonies of zooids.
Thaliaceans are thought to have evolved from ascidians. Rather than settling down, they are free-floating throughout their entire lives. Salps move by contracting, similarly to jellyfish, straining phytoplankton from the water. They have a complex life cycle, in which one generation of solitary individuals reproduces asexually by producing a chain of tens to hundreds of individuals, which are released from the parent at a small size. The next generation consists of a colony of salps (called blastozooids) remaining attached together while swimming, feeding, and growing (see gif below). This generation reproduces sexually, first maturing as females and later transforming into males. Older chains of male blastozooids will fertilize the eggs of younger female chains. Growing embryos are called oozooids, and eventually detach from their parent blastozoids, to feed and grow as the next solitary, asexual generation.
Due to their soft bodies, the ascidian fossil record is scant. The earliest confirmed ascidian is Shankouclava shankouense from the Lower Cambrian, but they are likely older than that.
Tumblr media
Propaganda under the cut:
Tunicates are “Olfactores”, meaning they have a more developed sense of smell and are more closely related to vertebrates than they are to lancelets. These are our closest invertebrate relatives.
The family Pyrosomatidae (image 3) has cylindrical or cone-shaped colonies of hundreds to thousands of individual zooids reaching up to 18 m (60 ft) long!
Due to their filtering capacity, some species are sensitive indicators of polluted water.
Sea squirts are the natural prey of many animals, including nudibranchs, flatworms, molluscs, rock crabs, sea stars, fish, birds, sea otters, and humans! They are eaten in Japan, Korea, Chile, and Europe (where they are sold under the name "sea violet").

Fossil Friday: The Time When Fish Ruled the Earth
The Silurian Period could be called the time when fished ruled the Earth. Fish rapidly diversified throughout the period. There are two main groupings of fish that evolved: jawless and jawed.
Tumblr media
Jawless fish first appeared in the Late Ordovician: Astraspida and Arandaspida. Astraspids are small, armored jawless fishes characterized by a dermal ornamentation of large, star-shaped tubercles of fine-tubuled dentine ("astraspidine"), covered with a thick, glassy cap of enameloid. They are represented by a single genus Astraspis.
Tumblr media
Arandaspids are another small, armored fish with a flat rather than oval-shaped dorsal shield. These are represented by several genera of which Sacabambaspis is the most well-known. Check out my post on Sacabambaspis.
Tumblr media
In the Silurian, several new groups of jawless fish appeared including thelodonts, heterostracans, osteostracans, and anaspids. Thelodonts were some of the first fish with scales rather than plates of armor. They first appeared in the Ordovician but they flourished in the Silurian. They lacked an ossified skeleton and the scales were either poorly attached or not attached to each other at all which makes finding a complete one incredibly difficult. The scales were small, 0.5-1.5mm, and didn’t overlap. They were teardrop-shaped and pointed on one end giving them there name “nipple tooth” They were ridiculously common in their habitats and globally distributed making them useful biostratigraphic markers.
Tumblr media
Heterostracans also appeared in the Ordovician and radiated rapidly in the Silurian. Consisting of around 300 species, their head shields differed greatly from one another. Most had two plates which formed the dorsal shield and one large ventral shield with a series of scales arranged along the sides. The scales are composed of three layers of dentine and aspidine (an acellular bony tissue unique to them and thelodonts). The middle layer was honeycombed with tiny holes called cancella. One distinguishing characteristic was their single exhalant opening into which the gills open.
Tumblr media
Anaspids were small armor less jawless fish. In fact, the name means “shield less ones”. They are covered in small, weakly mineralized scales and a row of large scutes running down the back. A major synapomorphy is the large tri-radiate spine behind the gill openings.
Tumblr media
Osteostracans were the first group of fish with paired fins. They are often called ostracoderms, they were similar to lampreys in possessing two pairs of semicircular canals in the inner ear (as opposed to three in jawed vertebrates). These fish are the sister group to jawed fishes.
Tumblr media
The jawed fishes first appeared in the Silurian Period. Four major groups radiated during this time: placoderms, acanthodians, cartilaginous fishes and bony fishes. Placoderms were mostly predatory armored fishes similar to the jawless ones. They were some of he earliest jawed fish and were the first ones to develop pelvic fins, the second set of paired fins. Some species have been found to be viviparous.
Tumblr media
Acanthodians were small fishes with slender bodies. Th paired fins were modified to long spines earning then the nickname “spiny sharks”. Unlike most sharks, acanthodians lacked teeth. Many even moved to freshwater.
Tumblr media
Chondrichthyes or cartilaginous fishesmay have evolved from acanthodians. This group consists of modern sharks, rays, skates and chimaeras.
Tumblr media
Finally, the first Osteichthyes or bony fishes appeared in the Silurian Period. Unlike all the other fish, they have an endoskeleton made of bone tissue.
Tumblr media
Thanks for coming to today’s lesson and tune in Monday to learn about the climate of the Silurian Period. Have a good weekend and fossilize you later!

Assigning Minerals and Gemstones to the Seven Deadly Sins, Part 1
Lucifer=Star Ruby
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The “star” part is obvious; and rubies have long been associated with nobility, bravery, love, and victory in battle.
(Fun Fact for the AdamsApple shippers: the largest known star sapphire-sapphire and ruby being different colors of the same stone-is called the Star of Adam.)
Satan=Fire Opal
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Opal is one of the birthstones for October; and, in 19th Century Europe, was believed to be unlucky.
Beelzebub=Amber
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This fossilized tree sap is famous for sometimes containing the remains of prehistoric insects and other animals.
Mammon=Emerald
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Among the most valuable gemstones on the market, emerald has long been prized by the upper classes. On a darker note: the emerald mining industry has long been rife with slavery, and other forms of violence.
Asmodeus=Lapis Lazuli
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The ancient Egyptians, Israelites, and many other civilizations have associated lapis lazuli with royalty and divinity since the Neolithic. It owes its distinctive blue color to sulfur: an element archetypally associated with Hell, and an essential nutrient for Earthly life.

How I'd imagine the other characters 'cope' (<- Is this the word?) THIS IS NOT ALL OF THEM EITHER. STILL ESTABLISHING Doodle - They craft delicate origami flowers, slowly building their own little garden in the corner of the art studio. When not folding petals, they might shape tiny stars from paper scraps or carve miniature birds from blocks of wood, their hands always busy crafting something soft, small, and beautiful. A stark contrast to the pressure-filled demands of their fashion lines
Tempus - He likes to stroll along the jagged edge of the coast, where the sea meets stone, often pausing to sit and quietly watch the waves break over the rocks and lap at his feet. He’s also been known to gather seashells and scoop up loose fish scales scattered across the sand believing each of them tell a story of the forgotten
Belavia - They retreat into a world of fashion (particularly Lolita) hosting whimsical tea ceremonies amid their cherished vintage porcelain dolls. They’re found indulging in sweets, their face adorned with carefully applied makeup as they hum soft melodies
Cortex - His fascination with the past, especially dinosaurs and fossils, often leads him to dig eagerly in the dirt, treating history books like treasure maps guiding his adventures. They’ve always had a keen eye for geodes and crystals, incorporating shards of them into his inventions as a unique signature.. like a personal watermark
The Healthy Band - During their breaks from touring, the band usually escapes into nature exploring hiking trails, setting up camp in remote spots, and spending time meditating, fully surrendering to the calm and stillness of the outdoors
Lucid - She’s deeply obsessed with stars and planets, spending countless nights outside, lying beneath the sky and studying every detail. He takes careful notes and sketches constellations and planetary positions, mapping the heavens exactly as they appear
Wyrinth - He turns to photography as a way to seize moments that catch his eye. With Polaroid filters in hand, he carefully studies the interplay of light and shadow, freezing subtle details that others might overlook creating tiny, tangible memories out of the everyday.
Cadaverous - She’s a devoted horror fan, collecting everything from old VHS tapes to vintage thrifted t-shirts. He hunts for rare figurines and posters all find a place in her growing stash. His passion turns every find into a piece of her personal shrine to the macabre
Elvonix - They have a strong passion for attending underground raves and actively engaging in graffiti + street art culture. She truly comes alive when fully embracing the punk persona losing themselves in the role and owning the look down to every detail.
Lottie & Teddie - The twins love hanging out at the playground, sketching chalk art on the sidewalks, chasing bubbles that float through the air, and gathering dandelions while weaving imaginative stories on the swings! Each time the twins visit, they invent a brand-new play to perform and sometimes they’re lucky enough to be joined by a curious bunny that often hops close by

Astro's Burden
The title is sarcastic, this is a very silly fic about Astro's numerous partners abusing the fact he has the largest bed.
This is based on a ship I like to call, "Starring Cast". It is the main 5 mains(Bobbette excluded), Dandy, Astro, Sprout, Shelly, and Vee in a large polycule. They each take turns taking care of Pebble.
Expect overwhelming silliness. Call a doctor if symptoms occur.
Dandy stood in front of the large blue door that led into Astro's room, holding his gaze on the pattern of stars and letting out a sigh. It was after hours, so most the toons didn't have much else to do today. Dandy slowly opened the door, calling out to the starry toon, "Astro? You up and about?"
Though, there wasn't any reply as he planted himself past the doorframe, closing the door rather loudly behind him. Astro didn't seem to be in his room right now, the darkness of his sleeping area inviting Dandy to turn on the room light. Dandy briefly shut his eyes as the room illuminated, revealing that the large plush bed was empty. Astro must still be out there with the other toons.
Dandy stood over the bed, eyeing the blankets with light jealousy. Astro has such a cozy room, one tailored for his maximum comfort. Dandy is sure Astro would understand him climbing up onto the bed, shifting himself under the silky covers and just letting out a large sigh relief.
-
Shelly stormed down the hall, trying to hold her head up high. There were sssoo many kids today, and an entire FIELD TRIP was brought into her museum area. She spent most the hours past the group leaving just trying to put the fossil pit back together. Shelly marched her way up to Astro's door, opening it with very little thought and making her way inside. Her mouth began to run before she could stop it, spilling itself to Astro, "I thought having more kids today would go well, but they kept messing with stuff... I was barely able to explain anything without them using the shovels as weapons!"
"Mhm..." The voice behind Shelly muttered, which was too light to possibly be Astro's voice. Dandy was laying in the bed, tightly wrapped under the covers and giving his usual smug look up at Shelly. Shelly's body eased upon realizing it was just Dandy, sitting on the edge of the bed.
"You sound like you need some rest," Dandy said, lifting up the blankets and motioning for Shelly to join him. She examined the offer with a pause, before climbing forward and slipping in beside Dandy, resting her head against his large petals.
-
Vee couldn't find Shelly anywhere, continuing to knock on her door with louder and louder. If Shelly wasn't in her room, where could she be. Vee's thought was instantly Dandy's room. She enjoys hanging out with his flower garden, but peaking her way into the green and rainbowy garden proved to show no Shelly. Thinkkkk Vee, where could Sh- Of course, Astro's room.
All the ones and zeros clicking away in her head settled on this answer, she was with Astro. He usually is who any of the toons go to when stressed. Vee pathed across the room over to Astro's room, turning the doorknob and stepping inside. That was not Astro, but it was Shelly. Vee identified both Dandy and Shelly relaxing in his bed, laid close beside each other. Vee giggled to herself, speaking up, "Thieving his bed away, without me?"
Dandy chuckled, though Shelly was dead asleep and letting out muffled snoring against the fluffy petals. Vee walked around the side of the bed and dropping herself into the warmth of the bed, cuddling up next to Dandy's other side.
- Star Tarts! Sprout rushed his way down the hall with a excited hop, holding a small box of his newest creation. Small blueberry tarts shaped like stars! He made this first batch for Cosmo and Astro, a few missing as Cosmo already had his fill. Sprout shifted the wrapped box to his right hand as he swung his door open, declaring, "I got you something Astro!"
He was shut up rather quickly when he looked down, seeing three very-much-not Astro toons staring back up at him. Shelly looked groggy and reading to go back to sleep. Vee and Dandy both shared a similar little cheeky smile. Sprout glared lightly at them, sitting the box down on the dresser that was lined with various small model stars and spaceships.
Sprout came up to them, and FLOPPED right onto Dandy and Vee. Both grunted loudly before they broke out into a giggle fit. Shelly almost joined them, but devolved back into slow breathing. Sprout pulled the blankets around, shifting his way into the trio's laps and pulling the blanket back over, embracing himself into the warm blankets, his thin green tail sticking out just next to Vee.
-
Astro yawned softly, huddling closely into his own blanket and slowly drifting gracefully back toward his room. It was a long day and Astro assisted Scraps and Goob with their crafts. He was carrying one of the finger painted star charts with him, smiling warmly at it. One of the floating stars pushed out from the wrapped blanket and clicked open the door, looking up once he noticed the light was on.
Ah, that's why. Three other toons laid cuddled into his blankets, snuggled close with eyes shut tightly, Vee's face blank with no expression covering it. A small leafy tail and big bump in the middle of bed cueing Astro as to where the last main was. Astro giggled, bringing two of his top arms out of his blanket to clip the finger painting up onto the various strings he keeps the crafts on. Astro silently drifted to the bed, scooting his way in next to Shelly, taking off the small blanket and slipping it on top of a small mat under his bed. His arms wrapped around Shelly, cuddling in.
Astro's eye slowly began to close, a small sparkle illuminating his hands.
If they sleep well like this, he might have to start making arrangements.
END.

🧙‍♂️🗻Kanto Fossil-Evo Redesign🗻🧙‍♂️ They finally evolved after about 4 years~!! Omastar and Kabutops are back from the past, but in a new coat~!! Omastar is still an opalized ammonite, though I added some wizardy elements for it's long shell (now shaped like a Star). A tad-bit Eldritch, a tad-bit magical. It mesmerizes prey with its flowing movements. Kabutops is also still a Calcified Horseshoe Crab, though with some samurai elements mixed into it. A Kabuto is a type of Samurai Helmet, afterall. It mixes physical attack and defense, but because of its still rather brittle shell, it uses sharp edges to also damage prey/ opponents. I wanted to differentiate Omastar and Kabutops more by making one more of a Special build, and one more of a Physical build. Can you guess which is who?? Now, on to more buttons and Convention items~!! 134/151
