Uh.

Yeah I am not okay and I need to stop saying I am because I'm not.

This flare-up of depression since quitting nicotine has gotten extremely, extremely bad, and I'm basically either crying or lying in bed staring at the wall failing to sleep. I don't like to inflict myself on others when I feel like this, but that's actually somewhat counterproductive because it means I self-isolate which makes the depression worse etc etc.

So. Uh. Yeah. I'm really struggling and not doing well at all, and I'm not sure anymore if my stubbornness is enough that I'll be fine eventually. It's getting harder.

I don't want to scare anyone, I don't think I'm in danger and if I were I would go to the hospital, but uh. Yeah. Stuff that's going on with me. It's not great and I'm a lying liar who lies by constantly insisting I'm either totally okay or will be, and I'm trying to break myself of that habit.

It just...it's really, really bad tonight.

The interpretation of Rise Raph as a 'perfect responsible soft boy uwu' is so BORING I'm sorry, Raph is a rowdy adrenaline junkie with anxiety and I won't take this slander any longer

Raph secretly kept an enemy soldier in their actual literal house as a sparring partner. Raph glued his brothers together and dragged them out to fight crime. Raph once asked Leo to punch him in the face to prove he 'takes damage like a boss.' Raph tried to lift a school bus, twice. Raph offered to help his favorite wrestler beat his little brother up. When Leo suggests evacuating Bullhop, Raph says no bc the best defense is a good offense babey. Raph's idea of a 'friendly chat' with April's upstairs neighbor is to put on a black ski mask and go stand menacingly at their door. It takes Raph 10 episodes to conclude that they should MAYBE start training. Raph's plan to get a potentially priceless (and potentially FRAGILE) museum artifact is to punch a car in the middle of a busy street and also cut it in half with his brother still inside.

Raph's never met a problem he wouldn't try to punch in the face and does not know the meaning of the words 'excessive force.' He roughhouses with his bros and drags them out to fight villains and thinks any plan that doesn't involve an all-out brawl is boring and lame. He'll do anything to protect his family from harm and be a hero, but also he eats wet salami off the floor and once single-handedly destroyed a library.

I just adore how, at his core, Rise Raph is such a classic Raph—impulsive and stubborn and caring and passionate. He is a very sweet, strong, honorable guy who has a very powerful sense of personal responsibility... and he is also the exact kind of jock who throws you in the pool at a party without checking if you have your phone in your pocket first.

About the Skyline Pigeon fic...

Is this gonna be the last chapter or will there be more parts to it?

Hullo!! This might be more evident now that I’ve posted another chapter (sorry I didn’t respond sooner!), but yes, there will indeed be more parts of the story! :D

I’m not sure exactly how many chapters it’s gonna end up being, but the in-universe timeline of the fic is gonna span across at least half a year. The current chapter takes place in spring, and the end of the fic is set in winter.

Based on what I currently have planned (which may be subject to change)… I would estimate that the whole fic is going to be at least ten chapters, quite possibly longer (goodness knows that the Howl AU has ended up way longer than I had originally planned alskjdfj)

Anyway, thank you for the ask! I’m really happy that there are still people interested in this fic, even though it took me a long time to update it! :D

Jonny: A shrike. Small, violent little critters. OR a chicken, because the cannibalism thing. (I also just think it’s really funny.)

Ashes: Whistling kite! They (along with a few other species) take burning sticks from forest fires and spread it to flush out prey. Arsonist bird, just like Ashes!

Drumbot Brian: Canada goose, since they travel long distances (like a pilot might!) this is also one of the birds that just Is Them. Just look at him. Look me in the eyes and tell me that man isn’t a goose. Soft, round, they look good to hold but they’re simultaneously full of violence.. silly goose Brian….

Raphaella: Wandering albatross. Yet another one who really truly just is. Look at that bird. It's her.

Marius: Common kingfisher! He's the one who originally sparked this idea, after we saw a picture of one and immediately got slammed by the idea of anthro bird mechs. The colors. Just look. That bird is Him.

Ivy: Rock ptarmigan, pigeon, or a mourning dove. She's just a soft round bird like Brian. They all have fitting coloration in a way, too.

Toy Soldier: European nightjar. The freaks my one true love. Nightjars look so fake., like they’re one of those puppet animal plushies you put your hand in to move the mouth.

Tim: Steller's jay. He inexplicably reminds me of one, similar mannerisms and everything. Tim is really truly such a corvid, also considered a blue jay for him. Deep down in my heart of hearts Gunpowder is a seabird like an osprey or petrel, though I have no reasoning for those ones.

Nastya: Eurasian magpie. Shiny blue smart bird. Looks mildly disappointed in you. Love u nastya

IT CAN'T BE ANY BIRD!!!! do NOT expect to grab random birds off the street!!!

its specificaly "birds that live in crowded citys/have no fear for humans and is quite dumb" (commonly pigeons)

DO NOT BEEF WITH CROWS OR MAGPIES, DO NOT BEEF WITH MAGPIES

it also works best when theres more bird then human ratio in the area

you get yourself any type of crumbale- snack (non toxic for birds oviously, stuff like oreos is out) and start attracting a hord of pigeons while sitting down somewhere (make minimal movement)

once they are close, i mean REALLY close, like, right under your legs, you simply grab em real fast

but catching em with your hands are really hard, so i mostly throw a sizable box (size: 1 piegon) on them or use one of those bug catching nets (make sure to not actually hit the bird) and it really works 🧍‍♂️

also note that if you DO catch one, clean your hands, they most likely have ass worms 🧍‍♂️

Saw your Delaware bird poll on blaze and i am strapped in for this poll series! May i make a pitch for including Rock Dove as an option for New York? They are so culturally important to New York, they’re like a part of our identity (and i say this as someone raised upstate!) plus I love them. They are our friends and neglected companions and if Delaware is allowed to have a nonexistent chicken as an option, New Yorkers should be able to choose the noble pigeon! (I recently moved away from the state for the first time, and my love for new york pigeons specifically only grows more with distance)

Thanks for the response, and I'm glad you're looking forward to this series! I am, too, provided the ADHD demons don't come for me in the night and distract me with something else (they won't, it's birds, I'm strapped in too). As for your suggestion...

OK. I'm a NY guy. Had the bulk of my teenage years in central NY State, grew up going to NYC for my entire childhood, been there more times than I can count. And I gotta say, when I first thought of this project, New York was the first state to come up. New York has the Eastern Bluebird (Sialia sialis) as its State Bird for essentially no good reason, and it's a State Bird that needs to be replaced, in my opinion. Even though, to be fair, I love to see bluebirds in general. But anyway, with that said...the Rock Pigeon (Columba livia), formerly known as the Rock Dove.

I want to. I really want to. Dear...GOD, how I want to. It was literally, LITERALLY, the first bird to pop into my head when New York came up. And yeah, they're a symbol of the city, to be certain, but they're also found all over the state.

And in every state.

And all over North America.

And...on every continent except for Antarctica (FOR NOW).

And yeah...that's the problem for me. The Rock Pigeon is a species with a nearly complete cosmopolitan distribution. They're essentially everywhere, and they're unavoidable, especially near human settlements with large stone or metal structures. Because of that...goddamn it, do I struggle with putting this on the list. Because, really, shouldn't it be on the proposed list for EVERY state? God help me...I just don't know.

But then again...it is a free country. And this is a democratic series.

Tell you what. I'll put it up as a nomination. In my opinion, personally, this probably shouldn't be the state bird of New York, even though the reasons for its conclusion are pretty obvious. I mean, it's true, it's the iconic bird of the city, and the first bird many people ever even see. Plus, hell, the spirit of America is literally named Columbia after...well, Christopher Columbus, unfortunately. BUT COLUMBUS COMES FROM COLUMBA, WHICH MEANS DOVE!!! And the Statue of...no, no...I'll save it for the main post.

And honestly, having been back to the city very recently...yeah, I miss 'em, too, @uchidachi. SO! It's in the running, far as I'm concerned. Like I said, we live in a democracy here in the State Birds Initiative. So, I leave the vote to you...and the people.

On the left: a modified Wright "B" flyer, which is the only Wright flyer in the museum's collection that is actually original. This was "the first model produced in quantity by the Wright Brothers." For some reason, it is located in the Korean War/Southeast Asian War hangar rather than the Early Years hangar.

On the right: a Kellett K-2/K-3 Autogiro, because people were already trying to figure out if they could make a plane that didn't need so much space to take off/land. In contrast to a helicopter (which was where these efforts eventually lead), the aircraft's rotors are powered by aerodynamic forces, while the engine propelled the aircraft by working the propeller.  

On the bottom: a taxidermied homing pigeon by the name of "Stumpy" John Silver, named so after he was wounded in the line of duty as his injuries included the loss of one of his legs (but! he still was able to successfully complete his mission!).  After that, he was retired from active service and, after the war, became the mascot for the 11th Signal Company of the US Army Signal Corps in Honolulu, Hawaii.  John Silver passed away in 1935 at the age of 17 years old and was presented to the Air Force Museum by his unit about two weeks later.
