USMLE Step 1
In order to practice medicine within the United States, successfully passing the United States Medical Licensing Examination, known as the USMLE Exam, is a mandatory requirement. The USMLE consists of Three Steps: Step 1, Step 2CK, and Step 3, and is administered by the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) and the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME).
The USMLE Step 1 is a computer-based exam that spans a single day, evaluating your grasp of fundamental sciences crucial for medical practice. Typically taken after the second year of medical school, this examination gauges your comprehension of essential concepts and principles in the basic sciences. It emphasizes the connection of these concepts and principles to health, disease, and treatment. Furthermore, the exam ensures that you possess a solid grounding in the scientific principles essential for continual learning throughout your medical career.

The Importance of Sticking with It.
Whether you are studying for Steps 1,2 or 3, these board exams are complex and take time and, most importantly, Commitment to follow through. I have noticed now, from the beginning of my taking steps, that my progress was always slow to start. In the first two weeks, I have come to expect low marks and slow progress. Even though the material is repeated for each exam, the extent and depth change. This can make something you know very well into something new to memorize. And it will hurt when you think you know the answers, and then you get a 40% on your practice block. DO NOT let this discourage you. Please keep in mind students from Harvard don't get top marks when they first run through. The questions are written to be complicated. So, even when you get something wrong that you feel you know very well, don't worry about it. It happens to everyone. Just buckle down and get it right for next time. It only ever matters when your dealing with a patient, getting it wrong on the computer is a safe way to practice. But with that said, ensure you're using the correct material to study. Although Kaplan and Uworld are great resources, you should base your readiness on NBMEs. That is the golden standard, and even though uworld is a great teacher for concepts and how to think, you will find it is not as accurate as the NBME, especially for step 2ck. Now the question I get asked by students mostly is, "How?!". Maintain a good foundation in the basics and the most high-yield material, then compare and contrast that to the minute details that occur in the less common. That is precisely the key. Knowing the most common and what specifically would indicate otherwise is the ethos of these exams. This is how the boards can tell if you know the material. They present something familiar with the proper details to discern when it is different. Now this can be a long process, and it will differ from person to person, but circling back, you have to stick with it! Stay on your study plan, and go through all the material however you learn best. But Keep going, especially when it's tough. If you feel like hitting a wall, you're probably doing something right. The most successful students find a way to care and be engaged in this type of studying so that when they get to the actual exam, they remember the follies and overcome it. The students that don't usually have to repeat. Stay on your studies, and don't give up.
