Romanogers Rec List
Here are a few of my favorite Steve Rogers/Natasha Romanoff stories!
Dreamland by quigonejinn (Teen And Up Audiences, 1,852 words)
Summary: After coming out of the ice, Steve Rogers has a recurring dream.
Threads, Frayed and Whole by Jaune_Chat (@jaune-chat) (Teen And Up Audiences, 2,360 words)
Summary: Alphas gift their omegas with trinkets to show they care. As a young operative, all Natasha could ever make was what she found. But how could that compete with what her fellow alphas were offering today?
Wander by @beezyland (Mature, 148,406 words)
Summary: Despite a wolf attack that ended in the death of his best friend, Steve still spends most of his younger years watching and drawing the wolves that live in the woods behind his house. One wolf with a coat tinged with red and strange green eyes watches him back. Ten years after leaving, Steve returns to care for his dying mother. That summer he meets Natasha, a mysterious bartender who has the same eyes as his wolf and secrets that will change everything he thought he knew about his hometown.
More below the cut!
For Whose Love I Rise and Fall by Yeetmeaway (Mature, 195,570 words)
Summary: In 1943 Hydra unleashes a deadly virus in its quest to create a new world order--one that turns its hosts into vampire-like creatures. 75 years later, humanity is on the brink of extinction, protected only by the hunters of SHIELD. Natasha has already lost so much to this--they are fighting a losing battle and everyone can feel it. But, for the first time in years SHIELD has hope, the possibility of a cure. What else will she give to bring an end to this nightmare?
How The Light Gets In by singalellaby (@captainmarvelling) (Teen And Up Audiences, 19,359 words)
Summary: Losing his sight may mean Steve can't fight alongside the Avengers, but he's still a super soldier. Natasha just needs to remind him of that.
The Things We Deserve by Not_You (Explicit, 1,598 words)
Summary: Natasha is having a bad day. Steve's enthusiastic, submissive masochism is helping.
what a smile means by victoria_p (musesfool) (@cacchieressa) (Mature, 4,475 words)
Summary: Natasha knows a lot of things Steve doesn't.
To Be Worthy by Yeetmeaway (Mature, 124,681 words)
Summary: Posing as the daughter of a Viking warlord, Natasha is betrothed to her enemy-- a young warlord of unearthly strength and power whom she is tasked with killing. But when she first lays eyes on her husband-to-be it quickly becomes clear that all of her intelligence about him was massively understated. Ordered not to abandon her mission and determined to go through with her plan, Natasha quickly draws the attention of her future husband’s warrior, a man she suspects may be a counterspy and who seems intent on learning everything about her. With the day of her wedding fast approaching, Natasha has everything to lose— her professional reputation, her life, and even her heart.
Cursed by Yeetmeaway (Mature, 22,694 words)
Summary: Six months after the battle of New York, a routine Avengers mission goes wrong after an encounter with the Enchantress. Natasha is private at the best of times, but she can no longer afford to be when it becomes clear that Steve has been cursed by dark magic. Reclusive and withdrawn, she is the last person she would've expected to help him, but she owes him a debt. As the curse begins to claim his body, Natasha can no longer hide her own darkness, nor can she deny the feelings that are growing within her heart. But if she and the Avengers can't find a way to help Steve break this spell, then she'll lose him forever.
Fated by Yeetmeaway (Teen And Up Audiences, 6,374 words)
Summary: Soulmates are a thing of fate-- two souls tied together in an unbreakable bond. But for Natasha, fate has seemingly chosen a different path. When it is discovered that her soulmate is an accursed, soulless beast, she is made into a Widow-- a monster slayer, those who fate has cruelly abandoned. What else can she do but embrace her destiny? But when a mission goes wrong, Natasha discovers that everything is not as it seems.
Another Person's Words by Ranni (Not Rated, 5,272 words)
Summary: Steve isn't the only one that doesn't catch all those movie references. Natasha plans it with the same grim intensity she brings to any mission, and where Tony would tease and Clint scoff, where Bruce would shake his head in disbelief, Steve is only grateful. She doesn’t like to be left out of things and he doesn’t like to be embarrassed. So many of the problems they have are unsolvable, but not this one—they can do this, can learn the language the others already know so easily.
Protective Package by Jaune_Chat (@jaune-chat) (Explicit, 3,576 words)
Summary: Steve Rogers would defend his friends with anything at his disposal, his strategy, his intelligence, his strength, his shield, his very life. Anything. This is the story of the five times he protected Natasha. With his penis. But things aren't quite as simple as that.
Unintended Side Effects by Margo_Kim (@andhumanslovedstories) (Teen And Up Audiences, 5,459 words)
Summary: Written for the Avengers kinkmeme: "Among the serum's many little quirks and oddities is that in addition to making his body stronger and his mind sharper, it also kind of cranked his libido up into overdrive. During the war it was easier to suppress/ignore because hey, being shot at is quite the boner kill, but now he's in the 21st century and though they still happen, battles are rather less regular. As a result, well; let's say that Little Steve is suddenly "standing at attention" when not explicitly ordered to do so." Steve respects Natasha as an agent and a person, but he also needs to stop looking at her when they are in public together because his body can't quite handle it and his uniform is very tight. The fact that Natasha's having entirely too much fun with Steve's noticeable problem doesn't help matters. Also available as a podfic read by ArwenLune (@primarybufferpanel).
American and Russian Relations in the 21st Century by Margo_Kim (@andhumanslovedstories) (Teen And Up Audiences, 2,548 words)
Summary: Written for the Avengers kinkmeme: An outsider perspective on Steve's new relationship. Darcy thinks there's something funny about Steve and Natasha's new relationship. Erik and Jane think she's crazy.
#marvel fic rec#natasha romanoff#steve rogers#romanogers#the friendship between steve and nat is one of my favorite platonic relationships in the mcu#but i'm never opposed to a little friends to lovers#in retrospect putting the dreamlike semi-platonic breathplay fic first sure was a choice i made#i mean it's great but may not be the most accessible story here

how I know I grew up: civil war edition
When CA:CW first came out, I was def "team tony" bc I liked Tony Stark the most because he was snarky and funny and quippy and sarcastic I hadn't really gotten into the Cap movies (like, I saw them but hadn't really paid as much attention until Civil War).
When I did finally get into the Cap movies and then re-watched CA:CW, I realized I'd lived a lot of life that had taught me a few things the #1 of which being picking a team is pointless and getting "upset" at either Cap or Tony and taking a side is futile (for me, at least) and fully not the point, even from an in-world character perspective.
The TL;DR of it is that Steve is the guy we (probably) aspire to be: very strong moral compass, rock-solid conviction, always seems to know what's right and what he stands for, and fully will go die on that hill. He owns his failures even if they're big fuck up failures, and sees it all through to the end. He has truly incredible, breathtaking resilience. He will always, always, always keep trying. He stays his course and will keep on the path that moral compass shows him, come hell or high water. Not afraid to do the hard thing, especially if it's right. Doesn't really care what others think of him, weirdly, and is unconcerned with people pleasing in the face of doing the right thing. Phenomenally loyal friend who will go to the ends of the earth and war with half the planet for people he cares about, and still not leave those he falls out with hanging. Most people, I think, should want to be Steve Rogers (and by extension, Sam Wilson).
But then I look at the trajectory of my life, and I realize the reality is that I am way more like Tony-- continually going through cycles of making questionable-to-outright-BAD decisions with really good intentions, but that result in bad-to-catastrophic consequences, and then letting the obsessive guilt spiral swing you so hard the opposite direction that the overcompensation ends up usually resulting in such truly shitty collateral damage that makes you wonder if you were better off the first time around. But you can't seem to stop and so you just do your best, looking forward and not back, trying and failing and fucking up and stumbling through the mess of your best attempts to do just one good thing right and have it work out for once without nuking your life and losing most of your friends.
I think that's why it works so well, because in a weird way I think most people are "rooting" for both sides: we root for Cap because we want to BE him, we also empathize and want to see Tony succeed because we kind of are Tony.
The actual issues, the accords, etc., seem like they're just proxies to emphasize the conflict of the dynamic (one side being "standing your ground for your + what is effectively your minority group's personal freedom & autonomy as well as clearing the name of your framed best friend" and the other being "can we be trusted to be left to our own devices to make the 'right' choice when it has such high-stakes consequences? who even knows what is 'right' at all? …and can maybe someone else decide because the guilt around having it be my personal responsibility is starting to wring me out because I can't seem to stop fucking up and its eating me alive")
it's like… maybe not even about one VS the other, but more like you want this guy who is everything you aspire to be to come out on top to re-solidify your conviction in the kind of standards you try to live up to, but who we empathize with more bc it's more realistically as slice of ourselves-- we can't bear to see lose because that hits a little too fucking close.
or something, idk

SteveTony Weekly - Week 3 - Genderswap - Marvel Trumps Hate
This week we have the first rec list for my Marvel Trumps Hate 2024 Winner! We’ll have one of these a month, with requested prompts. This month’s prompt is:
GENDERSWAP
Omg I LOVE genderswap fic. It’s an under-written tag on A03, but I’ve got 10 of my favorites for y’all to read. As always, remember to comment and kudos if you enjoyed something!
The Idiot Box by Margo_Kim
Stephanie Rogers isn't happy to be in the 21st century, but she's even less thrilled to be on a team with Antonia Stark who seems as spoiled and self-centered as people come. She and Tony do their best to ignore each other, until their mutual insomnia causes them to bond over the new American pastime: late night television watching. Eventual Steph/Tony.
Genesis by teaberryblue for Enmuse (Scifiroots)
Reluctant to make the truth about their secret weapon known, the American Government tells the world that Captain America is a man named Steve Rogers. According to public record, he died, tragically, in 1945, and he became legend.
In 1998, the Avengers find a body trapped in ice.
She's alive.
Her name is Eve.
She has Captain America's shield.
Ironsides by copperbadge
Antonia Carter Stark takes no shit and no prisoners.
in retrospect by welcoming_disaster
Fresh out of the ice, Eve Rogers isn't happy about being stuck onto the Ultimates' roster; the team, in her view, is a shameless PR grab with no real talent. Her teammate, Tonya Stark, might change that.
Fire Drills by isozyme
Tonia Stark is the Iron Mantle. She's also dying of cadmium poisoning, fending off competition from HammerTech, dealing with the nasty leftovers of her father's legacy, and taking care of Eve Rollins, one of Rhodey's Air Force friends who needs a place to stay.
An Iron Man 2 Genderswap AU where Nick Fury sends Eve Rogers to spy on Tonia Stark instead of Natasha Romanov.
You're Living in the Past (It's a New Generation) by bessyboo, Sinope
He's met Toni Stark. He's seen the best that this century has to offer, dolled up in impenetrable sunglasses and a lipstick-stained grin, and he knows that this world isn't going to save itself.
Role Models by cranialaccessory
Stella knows how labor-intensive Stark’s hairstyle is, and how long it takes to put on makeup. Howard might’ve been vain and self-centered, but he’d never put his personal appearance before a mission. “If we’re going to be working together,” Stella says, “I want you to take things other than your appearance seriously.”
Stark’s smile is even more brittle, this time around. “Thanks for the tip, Mom. It’s good news that we won’t really be working together much, then, isn’t it?”
Right Place, Right Time by dreiser
Stephanie Rogers never thought being frozen in Antarctica for seventy years was a case of being at the right place, at the right time. At least, that's until she got to know Toni Stark.
Knights in Shining Armour (No, really, it's incredibly shiny) by Sadisticsparkle (sadisticsparkle)
Toni Stark has always been a tomboy, more comfortable with engines and power tools than high heels and make-up. And she's always been waiting for a princess - her princess just happens to be a dude.
bad ideas by IronSwordStarShield (SweetFanfics)
The point is, she’d innocently complimented Toni’s lipstick.
And then. Toni had grinned over her tinted glasses at Steph and said, “Want a swatch?”
Before she could blink, Toni had grabbed her hand and kissed the back of it.

my friend innocently mentioned to me that they’d never seen the captain america trilogy, so naturally as someone who used to be a devoted stucky shipper i kidnapped brought them over to my house and forced showed them all three movies. and holy shit y’all…
i literally forgot that half of these lines are actual lines canonically said in the mcu. like, they don’t come from an ao3 fic. they’re not something that i just imagined happening. they happened. “even when i had nothing, i had bucky” are you serious??? “rumlow said bucky and suddenly i was a 16-year old kid again in brooklyn” wow ok catch me crying. “i’m with you til the end of the line” WHY WOULD THEY DO THIS TO ME. in retrospect it will forever be a good thing that marvel was too cowardly to make them canonically in love because i literally do not think i would’ve been able to handle it. i would’ve died and imploded on the spot. the mcu now wants us to forget how much they meant to each other BUT I NEVER WILL. as steve rogers once said SOME PEOPLE MOVE ON BUT NOT US!!!
#when i become a famous film director the first thing i’m doing is remaking the trilogy and letting them be gay#stucky#stevebucky#marvel#mcu#captain america#winter soldier#steve rogers#bucky barnes#lgbtq#lgbt#queer#gay

hi! i've been reading some of your older fics and was wondering if there's any merit in watching buffy for the first time in the year 2024
This may not be obvious, but this is actually an extremely complicated and highly subjective question. I'll try to go on for too long.
As background: my mother loved Buffy and its spin-off Angel growing up. It was our Bible (besides the actual Bible). Not kidding, she was on the forums and fan groups and wrote fanfiction for it and everything (These days, she's really into kdramas and Asian dramas, and calls me about how the Thai seem like big fans of gay people). So I'm quite biased.
BTVS is both a product of its times and ahead of its times. It was a show about feminism and the struggle of living in this world as a woman, when very few shows were doing that. It was the first show to have a long-lasting lesbian couple, and the first show to depict a kiss between them. For better or for worse, it was one of the codifiers of broody vampire boyfriend. It was pretty unafraid to be experimental in a lot of what it did. It had incredibly complex and nuanced character work and growth that I still aspire to. Spike's arc is still matched in quality only by Avatar's Zuko. Angel's long term arc, from Buffy to his spin-off series, still makes him one of the most complex characters on TV. It had the most complex depiction of depression on TV at the time and I still think it's one of the best. I think the show had very high highs.
It also had very low lows. Some of the feminism is problematic in retrospect. The sapphic couple has a rather famous element that was severely problematic. There are, overall, some deeply atrocious arcs that I can appreciate objectively but not in practice. Xander: a whole-ass character aged awfully. On a meta level, the workplace conditions were bad (thanks, Whedon.) There are no people of color. The spoiler's sake I won't go into detail on this, but in general the good stuff was so influential and the bad stuff was just awful.
I think these days people tend to brush off the entire thing because it's Whedon. That is more than fair. But I'd also say that Whedon & Buffy is extremely similar to Brian Michael Bendis & Ultimate Spider-Man. Bendis was fantastic at writing sassy, bouncy, permanently stressed-out teens - issue was, he wrote entirely different serious adult characters the way he wrote these sassy teens. Same with Whedon: the annoyingly constant quips are perfect for Buffy, because that's who the characters are. They're awful in Marvel, because Steve Rogers is not Xander. Kinda similarly, Buffy was genuinely feminist for 90s TV - issue is, Whedon has not grown or developed his views, and now his works feel so sexist (oh my fucking god why did you treat Natasha like that). After a certain point it's egotistical: you're writing like that because you're Joss Whedon and it's how you write, not because it's what's best for the characters and story. But it was really important to me to get the character voices right, and it's freaking difficult to endlessly write dialogue that distinct, full of voice, witty, and clever.
I think BTVS & Angel TV's greatest influence on my writing is how intensely character-driven both of those shows were, and how intricate the characters were. What every character did was something they would do, if that made sense. Even the stuff I hated to watch, that made me uncomfortable, was the culmination of so much (usually). I think I also picked up the constant wit and humor lol. On a personal level, the conversations I would have with my mother where she broke down the character motivations and composition of the story was my first exposure to looking at storytelling from an analytical perspective and a framework of critical analysis, which was an approach I carried into the rest of the media I consumed and that was the primary reason I was able to become a decent writer. Thanks, Mom. Have fun with your kdramas.
TL:DR: There is merit, especially if you care about good character work. There are things about it that may make you want to drop it, which is extremely valid. Season 1 is rough but interesting, Season 2 and 5 are the best, Season 3 is pretty good, Season 4 and 7 skippable, and Season 6 is........epic highs, epic lows......
#my asks#the basic premise of Buffy is “what if the monsters and demons that plagued the psyche of a teen girl were real”#which is a very simple thing but the focus on character ended up creating such a complex story#and it highly influenced how i try to have the physical conflict mirror the emotional conflict#externalization of emotional conflict is great#i dont talk about it much but i was genuinely very proud of that story#it mattered a lot to me that I hit the character voices EXACTLY#and that i was earnest and honest in exploring the themes of buffy and what made it important#i think you can tell that it was written by somebody who loves buffy at the bottom of her heart#it very much is a “how meg would write buffy” thing#I wrote Angel as an awkward younger version of his self from ATVS S5#when we as the audience has lost all respect for him lmfao#but what really stuck with me is a major theme and line from angel:#“if nothing we do matters then all that matters is what we do”#and colliding angel's nihlism with buffy's desperation to live a meaningful life was excellent#i did what i wanted to do very precisely and that is the joy of hitting a level of writing skill where you can do that#btvs#buffy the vampire slayer

American Dad eps for review electric boogaloo
Minstrel Krampus
Roy Rogers McFreely
Weiner of our Discontent
Return of the Bling
Rapture’s Delight
Great Space Roaster
Stan’s Night Out
Ricky Spanish
The Two Hundred
Chimdale
Family Affair
Sorry this has taken so long!!!
Minstrel Krampus
Probably my favorite Christmas special-i love when American Dad does music even more than when Family Guy does. It's relationship to R&B is incredibly interesting and every song is just nailed by the vocal cast. Side Note favorite song is definitely Steve's opening number.
Roy Rogers McFreely
A bit on the older side but a hella funny episode-one of Rogers best personas. Also I love when Roger has episodes about his relationship to the family and his own insecurities in that regard (which judging by your list is a shared thought!)
Weiner of Our Discontent
I think it's one of the best early Roger episodes but the Steve and Toshi plot leaves something to be desired
Return of the Bling
This episode is beyond fucking hilarious oh my God
"you always get what you want, don't you Helen?"
Rapture's Delight
Its in my top 10 episodes period though I know from experience with other fans that that's hardly a hot take-i mean the art direction ALONE was worth of an Emmy.
Great Space Roaster
Oh hey another top 10 I think this might be my top pick for flat funniest episode of the show
Stans Night Out
I really like the CIA Guys and this episode gave us "GOD DAMN IT NATHAN-THIS IS WHY YOU KEEP GETTING MOLESTED" so it's certainly not bad but I always have a hard time remembering it once I'm finished watching it
Ricky Spanish
Alright hot take: I think this episode is kinda mid. Don't get me wrong Ricky Spanish himself is hilariously evil buuuut I think this plot they do with him is lame and underwhelming and the Tunjee subplot is just stupid
The Two Hundred
Much like Rapture's Delight it's such an obviously great episode it's kinda hard to talk about. That being said, best Greg portrayal period. Only reason I wasn't entirely against him sticking around after losing Terry.
Chimdale
I legit only think this episode is funny in the retrospect of them remembering that they made Stan bald for a pseudo sequel last season
Family Affiar
Not my favorite Roger episode I think it falls off after the Roger decides to leave the family but it's first half is really solid I love the different ways the family react to Roger cheating on them-particularly Steve

Macworld February 2004
This issue, unfortunately enough, isn't available on the Internet Archive; I found it elsewhere. The interview with Steve Jobs only took up half of page 62, though; the rest of the retrospective timeline in the cover story was backed up with comments from Adam Engst, Guy Kawasaki, John C. Dvorak, Andy Ihnatko, and Roger Ebert.

I don't pay attention to MCU anymore, and honestly, I only really like certain aspects of it in retrospect, such as the Steve Rogers's stuff. I think about how outrageously wrong the writers were for writing him having sex before marriage (fornication). First of all, considering the character and values Steve had throughout the entire Infitnity Saga prior to Endgame, it comes off as widely out-of-character for him to having done that before. I'm (not) sorry, but Steve has a massive "I'll have her home by 8, sir. Don't worry." energy to him that I highly doubt he would've even been comfortable with the idea of sex outside of marriage. Steve is a correct type of man, and he'd very probably see it as disrespectful to her for him to do that. He's the type to stop before they go any further, actually, because he feels and knows it's not right. You have to add the fact that he was very probably raised as a Catholic. I don't care how you headcanon him and how much times have changed, Steve is a "by-the-book" kind of guy when it came to that and other things. Was he perfect? Of course not, but I'm (not) sorry, he would've waited until marriage. This isn't even just a baseless headcanon given how it's pretty in-character for him.
#steve rogers#mcu#infinity saga#meta#mcu meta#txt#and yes there are men like him#i know a whole lot of you find it impossible to believe but that's only because you have yet to encounter a godly man#steve is a godly man#he'd protect provide for cherish honor love and nurture the woman in his life cuz he is a man of god#nobody is saying he is flawless he would commit mistakes#but he'd try to do right regardless#he is a great example of christian/biblical masculinity in fiction#and his relationship with bucky is an example of brotherhood founded in god#there are actually many great biblically masculine characters. steve is one of them#prior to the mess that was endgame but that isn't considered canon around these corners anyways

Female Steve Rogers: a fic rec list
@lavenderbuckyy asked on the Steve server for female Steve recs and I couldn't resist making a list! These are some of my favorite stories from AUs where Steve was always (or at least originally) a woman.
Genesis by teaberryblue (@teaberryblue) (Stony, Teen And Up Audiences, 35,578 words)
Summary: Reluctant to make the truth about their secret weapon known, the American Government tells the world that Captain America is a man named Steve Rogers. According to public record, he died, tragically, in 1945, and he became legend. In 1998, the Avengers find a body trapped in ice. She's alive. Her name is Eve. She has Captain America's shield.
turntable by Zekkass (@zekkass) (Gen, Teen And Up Audiences, 2,144 words)
Summary: "I've been a girl before, Tony."
More below the cut!
This New Air by merry_magpie (@sevenmerrymagpies) (Darcy Lewis/Steve Rogers, Teen And Up Audiences, 10,979 words)
Summary: Stevie wakes up in a world she doesn't recognize and tries to build a life for herself. An Always-a-girl AU.
The Wheels of Inevitability by sinuous_curve (Stony, Explicit, 1,241 words)
Summary: “You know, once in high school I got into an argument about whether or not the serum made your tits bigger,” Toni says, threading a loop of black cord down the center of Steph’s sternum.
A Particular Style by sinuous_curve (Stony, Explicit, 3,640 words)
Summary: “The erotic tale of one camp counselor’s descent into lesbian madness?” Toni rattles off the summary, pressing the back of her hand to her forehead in a swoon that Steph can’t see. “I can’t fault your taste. It was always one of my favorites.”
Fire Drills by isozyme (@isozyme) (Stony, Explicit, 19,506 words)
Summary: Tonia Stark is the Iron Mantle. She's also dying of cadmium poisoning, fending off competition from HammerTech, dealing with the nasty leftovers of her father's legacy, and taking care of Eve Rollins, one of Rhodey's Air Force friends who needs a place to stay. An Iron Man 2 Genderswap AU where Nick Fury sends Eve Rogers to spy on Tonia Stark instead of Natasha Romanov.
girls can't play guitar by isozyme (@isozyme) (Stony, Explicit, 4,209 words)
Summary: On nights when Tonia fucked Eve, Eve left her bed sated and woke up with a guilty desire to walk into Tonia’s room, strip off her kevlar uniform, and surrender herself to whatever Tonia wanted to do next. Captain Eve Rogers has a complicated relationship with sex and masculinity. Tonia Stark has a really big strap.
Falling Slowly by neverending_shenanigans (@neverending-shenanigans) (Darcy Lewis/Steve Rogers, General Audiences, 8,945 words)
Summary: When Darcy follows Jane to new York, she only did it because Jane would be a mess without her. She can't complain, though, when she meets Stella. Stella is nice, maybe a bit reserved and one hell of a woman. And, oh, Stella might just have not mentioned the fact that she is actually much older than she looks.
in retrospect by welcoming_disaster (@welcomingdisaster) (Stony, Mature, 2,128 words)
Summary: Fresh out of the ice, Eve Rogers isn't happy about being stuck onto the Ultimates' roster; the team, in her view, is a shameless PR grab with no real talent. Her teammate, Tonya Stark, might change that.

To be fair, we've unfortunately had PLENTY of instances where non-real stuff actually DOES influence people to do bad things, certainly in terms of mob mentality. Case in point: Rousseau's fictional treatises, Voltaire's Candide, Diderot's plays, and Sade's philosophical fiction helped inspire the French Revolution and Reign of Terror (and this isn't guesswork, either: Robespierre and his ilk repeatedly cited them as their inspirations for the Reign of Terror among others). Heck, there's evidence that Voltaire may have been an early influence on Karl Marx thanks to his dad reading Candide as a bedtime story, and look how HE turned out to be a reprobrate of a human being (heck, he made it explicit he formed the Communist manifesto so he could engineer an even gorier remake of Robespierre's Reign of Terror, meaning he was actively INTENDING to start a violent riot in his lifetime, and ultimately succeeded with Lenin). And don't get me started on how the Communist Manifesto, a blatantly fantastical piece of garbage, managed to influence Lenin and others into creating godless dystopic Communist countries. The movie Redacted was notorious for being the direct inspiration for a terrorist attack in Germany, as well. And let's not forget that the Matrix Defense was common enough to actually be considered a variation of the Insanity Plea, and there was evidence that the Wachowskis may have actually been gunning for that. Heck, technically, it's debatable whether the fashion magazine stuff is even real anyways (most of that industry is manufactured by people who don't even know a thing about heterosexual sex if you get my drift). Now, that all being said, I'm doubtful most video games, rock and roll, and D&D would have actually been causing those bits, or even intending to do that.
But I definitely agree especially currently that Lisa's point really falls apart (and this was speaking as someone who bought Lisa's claims when younger). Heck, if anything, Mailbu Stacy's comment about teaching shopping at school actually IS a profound statement, speaking from second-hand experience. One of the special needs teachers in High School actually DID end up teaching shopping to special needs students, and it was a VERY clever way of teaching them economics and how to invest wisely. That if anything actually IS a grossly underrated and relevant thing right now with all the bad spending habits, stuff I'm guilty of BTW. And I don't even understand how her baking cookies is irrelevant or demeaning, either. People baking shouldn't be an issue. Heck, mom and I often bake macaroons for Dad for Christmas gifts (and this is speaking as a straight guy, BTW). Probably the only actual red flag quote in that scene was the last statement with her comment of she shouldn't be asked questions since she's just a girl, and even THAT going by the only other time it was used (the very end of a retrospective documentary for Malibu Stacy's history at the company she was created at where they asked about what she has to say about her success) was meant to convey (albeit VERY badly) that she was being humble. In other words, a fit comparative quote for her would be Steve Rogers' response to Red Skull in the climax to The First Avenger: "Nothing. I'm just a kid from Brooklyn." In response to what made him special.

SteveTony Weekly - October 15th
Hi, all! I hope you had a spectacular week. Here’s everything I read this week--enjoy and be sure to leave comments and kudos for your writers!
~*~
love and war by meidui
“Who the hell are you?” Tony demands as Steve stands up and instinctively gets between them, taking him in: Tony’s armour, but in his colours. His shield, but with Tony’s arc reactor in place of his star.
“I’m from Earth-TRN634,” he says. “I’m not here to hurt you. I’m here to stop your Civil War.”
Shakedown by Sineala
The problem is, Captain America won't stop shivering.
Need A Hand? by KandiSheek
An unfortunate hand injury means that Steve can't jerk off for the foreseeable future. Tony is all too happy to lend a hand.
your kind of heaven's (been to hell and back) by complicationstoo
Contrary to popular belief, Tony hasn’t done this before. He knows his own reputation, has enough self-awareness to recognize that not one single person would be surprised to find out he was doing this tonight, but all of them would be surprised to hear it was the first time. When you build a persona around being the charming playboy, paying for sex doesn’t seem too far off.
It’s definitely not the other guy’s first time being paid for it, though. There’s an easy energy about him as he casually looks around the penthouse between sips of the scotch in his hand. Tony wonders if he’s even drinking it at all, though, because the line of liquid never seems to go down no matter how many times he brings the glass to his lips. Either way he’s good at faking the nonchalance.
believe me by complicationstoo
“So this is definitely one of the strangest situations I’ve ever been in,” Tony says, plopping down on the hard tile floor.
“One of?” Steve asks with raised eyebrows. “It’s troubling that you can’t lie to me right now, and yet you still aren’t saying it’s the worst.”
“Because it isn’t the worst,” Tony says simply, the honesty spilling out of him so easily even though he hates the way it feels on his tongue. “I wouldn’t even call it one of the worst. Doesn’t even crack the top five on that one, and please, don’t ask, because that’s a list I don’t want to say and you don’t want to hear. But strangest? It’s up there for sure.”
made your mark on me by complicationstoo
It’s a Thursday, the first time that Tony walks into Steve’s tattoo parlor. Steve is behind the counter, passing the time between appointments by filling his sketchbook with new designs and reworks of older ones. He glances up at the chime on the door and has a welcome greeting on the tip of his tongue that dies at the sight of him.
He’s young, and if Steve had to guess he’s probably never been in a tattoo parlor before today, if the nervous look is anything to go by. His hair is dark and messy, falling in every direction as he takes a knitted hat off of his head and stuffs it in his pocket, while wide brown eyes look around at the designs on the walls.
How to Give the Best Blowjob He's Ever Had by BlossomsintheMist
Steve wants to give Tony as good a blowjob as Tony always gives him. Tony gives him some pointers.
in retrospect by welcoming_disaster
Fresh out of the ice, Eve Rogers isn't happy about being stuck onto the Ultimates' roster; the team, in her view, is a shameless PR grab with no real talent. Her teammate, Tonya Stark, might change that.
The Fall and the Rise by Sineala
After the Great Society incursion, the Illuminati refuse to destroy another world. When the next incursion looms, they go to await their deaths in peace. Tony ends up on the doorstep of the last man who ever wanted to see him. At least he's going to die at Steve's side.
The Spark That Started the Fire by Sineala
It started with two men. But it ended with two men, too.
(Or: A quiet evening on Battleworld, in which there are desert islands, campfires, apologies, and proposals. Also nudity.)
Bustin' a Cap by LonghornLetters
Steve and Tony have been together for a minute. Bucky and Rhodey have...concerns.
Body of Work by LonghornLetters
NFL quarterback Steve Rogers has been invited to appear in ESPN's Body Issue. It's true, you know, every body has a story!
Those Secrets We Hold Dear by KandiSheek
Tony has been on suppressants for as long as he can remember. So when his body goes into an unexpected heat, he's more than a little unprepared. Especially because the person responsible for his body going haywire is halfway across the world and not on speaking terms with him.
It doesn't help that most of the world assumes that Tony is an alpha.
There is No Place Like Home for the Holidays by Lenalena
Steve is the first to come home to the tower after S.H.I.E.L.D. goes down. Then Natasha and Clint arrive. Tony doesn't mind, really, he's got the space. Except it's December and they insist on doing Christmassy shit. Who the hell has time for that?!?
Christmas 5 - Tony 0
be my best friend (until we grow old) by complicationstoo
Everything about Steve Rogers is unexpected. How he enters Tony’s life like a cannonball. How he lingers there like he belongs.
It isn’t much of a surprise, though, to fall in love with him.
A companion fic to this is how you fall in love.
in restless silence and waking dreams by Areiton
Tony trails his fingers over the ice, shivering at the cold that leeches into his hand, and stares at the man his father loved more than him, the man he’s loved and hated his entire life, the man who died to save the world and end the war.
He sighs and says, softly. “You poor bastard.”
one true thing by welcoming_disaster
Captain America, Tony has long learned, lives by a set of internal rules so convoluted and esoteric that he himself sometimes gets lost in them.
in my head by brucewaynery
Tony tells Steve about solipsism, the theory that everything is merely a figment of your own imagination, and Steve lets something slip.
for 'college roommates' on iron man bingo
now I worship a celestial sun by haemodye
The thing that gets Tony the most is how long it takes him to notice.
Not Steve, or even the other Avengers, but Tony himself. It takes Tony almost two whole weeks to figure out that he’s unable to disobey a direct order from Steve, which just- what the hell is that? What happened to the days when he flew off the handle, unable to play well with others, a notorious wild card?
“God, don’t tell me I’m getting old and predictable,” he says, rubbing a hand over his forehead. And then, “Fuck.”
A mostly-comedic farce involving: 1 obedience spell, 2 pining Avengers, 1 long-suffering Sorcerer Supreme, and 1 single, extravagant Saint Patrick's Day float.

California and Me
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/PbKZtoc by cityofst4rs He used the term “beautiful” liberally when he described his life that way to Sam. It wasn’t beautiful in the same way Bucky was—the kind of beauty that feels divine. It was quite rusty, in fact. or Steve is old now, and he misses Bucky so much that he could die.
