@inrainbowz, I'm a sucker for a monster taking over a character and a person he loves having to find a glimpse of him within that monster.

Like the Nogitsune plot in Teen Wolf when STILES STABBED SCOTT, yet Scott still knew his friend was somewhere in there and didn't want to hurt Stiles even though he could have killed him.

Because Stiles had saved Scott before when Scott was going to kill himself but Stiles brought his friend back by reminding him of all the good memories between them (SEASON 3 SUPREMACY!).

So of course I was going to love when everyone believed Eliot was gone, only for Quentin to know his friend was still alive in his body hiding from the Monster.

And right when he was ready to kill the Monster believing even if Eliot was still in there, he was suffering, Eliot came through BECAUSE OF HIS LOVE FOR QUENTIN!

WHO GETS PROOF OF CONCEPT LIKE THAT?!

So no matter how many times these shows do me dirty, I will always be a sucker over seeing the person you love turn into a monster, but loving him anyways. Seeing the body of the one person who your soul calls to become the villain, yet still believing that somewhere in there is good. That somewhere in there is the person who would fight to save you if the roles were reversed. And the love between you two being the thing to save you both.

Personal question! What has been your favorite thing to write about the Ascendent (that you either can or can’t share YET)

ooooooh, this is such a fun question anon!!! I like it a lot!!! Thank you for asking me :D

There are two things that are my favourite but they are complete opposites, so I'm happy to include them both here:

I, like most humble fic authors, love to write a big fucking flirt. I hope that's clear from Party Favours, where fake dating gives Astarion the excuse to flirt on steroids. Here, Ascendency provides the same narrative device, only the steroids are evil! I've said this in previous asks... there's a reason that the Ascendent gets so many fucking speeches. While I haven't ascended Astarion in game, A!Astarion's dialogue objectively slaps, and this is what drew me to writing an Ascendency AU in the first place. I just love writing flirt dialogue (also, side note, this is making Act 3 of Pieces fucking hilarious bc Astarion can't flirt anymore. The Ascendent made it weird. His rizz is tainted now - or so he thinks, with all that guilt).

The Ascendent was like, my first attempt at writing a monster, the same way Pieces ended up being my first attempt at writing a horror. Which is, as it turns out, a really really fun exercise for any author, I would 10 out of 10 recommend! I knew from the vibes I wanted I couldn't endorse a fully sympathetic Ascendency ending (no shade to those who do) so I had a lot of fun creating a monster that genuinely scared me, but that I could still sympathise with when I was required to write dialogue from his perspective. I hope that when I reveal what I decided the Ascendent is, people find it rewarding or interesting, but ultimately? It was me creating my personal monster from fears I hold in my day to day life, and that was honestly a very fun and rewarding experience for me as a writer!

The second one is why I keep reiterating that I do not think the Ascendent is a canon take on Astarion's evil ending. It was very much a writing exercise in Gothic horror, and it produced an outcome that was increasingly very personal to me. I think writing a monster became this weirdly intellectual exercise that made me think about what frightens me, so that I could write scenes that I genuinely thought were frightening! I'm excited to share the results with everyone :) xx

And the last.. Calm Petals herself. Sluggified. She can finally be free, at a cost. Her brain is basically a giant pearl, holding her memories and consciousness. But she didn't realize the procedure was copy and paste, not cut and paste.

It makes me sad when people forget these boys can retract into their shells.

The fanfic writers make them scientifically as the Turtle species, and forget the lair games episode during bowling when we CLEARLY see Leo AND Donnie pull into they're shell. Donnie does it more often, like in the Purple Dragons, and when shelldon ran away.

I still love those stories I find anyway.

They may be different species, but I think since they were all in the same ooze at the same time, they shared a little bit of each other's traits.

You know…this scene really highlights the complexity of human nature. I have no doubt Sand is being a good boyfriend by telling Ray about TopBoston because he is aware of RayMew connection (although the way he obtained the recording is definitely not clean). BUT I am also certain wrap in this is his even stronger desire to take revenge on Top (and Boston). People have been debating on Twitter that Sand manipulated Ray cause he knows Ray will somehow tell Mew but I’m certain it’s more layered than that (especially as what we have learn so far about Sand out of all the characters showed he has some integrity and principles) - although Ray being Ray, he has the maturity of a 5 yrs old (unfortunately) - and while his intention is always good, Ray is clumsy with the way he expresses his emotions (worse when he is drunk)

donnie is officially the older twin now HOWEVER prior to the invasion they didn't know which of them was and would have some completely arbitrary criteria or competition (a la rock paper scissors) to decide every time someone asked. the criteria was different EVERY time and ONLY made sense to them

one time after witnessing this draxum tried to tell them who was older and they both chewed him out. it's not about who's actually older it's about the PRINCIPLE

in this canon the invasion took place aroundddd six months after shredder round two

i REFUSE to believe donnie wouldn't build his techbo/other tech stuff that got destroyed again. he would NOT solely use mystics you cannot convince me. my reasoning for why he did in the movie is that he was too focused on trying to bring back shelldon to worry about his other tech stuff

SPEAKING OF SHELLDON. idk that it'll come up in the fic directly so basically: donnie spent a while trying to bring him back and wasn't able to during that time, and then... didn't give up exactly but got super discouraged and 'took a break' from working on him

'took a break' aka saying he would get back to it but not actually doing that because he refused to admit he was really just scared it would end with concrete proof that it wasn't possible. at least this way he doesn't know for sure that shelldon is gone forever (even if he also doesn't know for sure that he isn't)
