Is the death of coral affect also sea anemones? /Or/ Are the sea anemones changing color (slowly matching the colors of dying coral) when growing older? (/And/ What about urchins?)

As I was happily thinking, having more references for a sea anemone OC with the new appearance of Annie in splatoon 3’s DLC, I couldn’t stop thinking about Annie’s new design.

Mainly, her ‘hair’ color change. The moment I saw her made me ask a LOT of questions. (maybe for no reasons)

Anyway, here is my (hopefully understandable) rambling!!

- First of all, let’s put basic stuff:

like the fact that sea anemones aren’t corals: they aren’t as rigid, since they are invertebrate, (corals have a skeleton!) and thus, soft. But they are still sea animals heavily related corals.

(I’m not an expert AT ALL on this subject, this just scratch the surface, but hopefully this is correct)

Now, in Splatoon:

In the first game, there is a sunken scroll with a “realistically accurate” (from our point of view as human from their past) sea anemone, …

… acknowledging an evolution that was made through time. Similarly, to inkling and octoling, depicted in a “realistically accurate” way that we see throughout the three games.

While, in the announcement of 3’s DLC we saw, well, dead corals everywhere.

(And they obviously didn’t evolve, them not being sea animals like sea anemones.)

- Now the basic stuff is put, let’s talk about Annie:

In Splatoon 1, while her artwork seemed dull in comparison of her render, it’s important to take account of the warm light source in her shop, which in the end made her “hair” as vibrant as the art.

Let’s compare with the matching light source with the render of her new design:

The main color went from a vibrant pink-orange warm color to one waay less vibrant and more cold-ish, the orange in the color is gone. The same goes with the green accent, they can even seem even white. (or transparent at some point?? With less opacity?? but that may be just me)

White like dead corals.

Once again, corals and sea anemones are different as talked before. But they are still related, and it made me ask:

Are sea anemones affected by the source of what is causing coral death? (which some of us theorized to be from a nuclear winter)

- I could have stop there. But Annie isn’t the ONLY sea anemone, enter Harmony:

She wasn’t in any game before 3, the only resources we have from her BEFORE the 3 is an artwork for Chirpy Chips for each of the two first game.

Here they are, with the art and render from splatoon 3:

She went from pale to vibrant, unlike Annie.

If there’s truly coral dying and impacting sea anemones, there wouldn’t be any reason why Harmony isn’t hit as well.

-Putting aside the ‘coral dying impacting sea anemone’ thing, I thought of other possibilities:

Age:

We can easily imagine Annie being way older than Harmony, being a shopkeeper, and online shopkeeper as well.

So, what If their color is fading growing up?

-But it still won’t fully line up with Harmony, which led to the last idea:

Health:

Harmony is known to have issue taking care of her (poor) clownfish, their color indicating neglect.

She may have been neglecting herself prior Splatoon 3. Maybe from overworking herself, or even from her own neglect to her clownfish (since sea anemone and their clownfish have a symbiotic relationship).

(And thinking about their symbiotic relationship, could it be Annie’s clownfish, Moe, dying? Since their lifespan is different and all.)

-Oh, and by the way; what about the urchins?

Nothing.

They aren’t corals, nor as close by family or whatnot to them!! They are closer to mollusks. So, no ‘withering’ like coral!

Of course, it could be simply just a change of style from Annie, and for Harmony, as I said, there’s not much to work with, all of it is thin ice in the end!!

But I still find it odd the change made for Annie, no other NPC had any change similar like that (change of color, not like Spyke and Murch who had simply grown) but, maybe, in the end, she simply grown old as well!

can i just say that I'm haunted by the image of Ice wearing "one of Mavericks cheapest rolexes". One because of the mental immage of Maverick being the kind of men who not only owns multiple watches but also Rolex, which is absolutely delightful, because oh the quiet vanity of that. And two because of the implied and groundbreaking (to me) domesticity (and defiance of the not talking/acknowledging the thing between the 2 of them) of wearing another person watch. I'm screaming into the void about your brilliance. So I need to ask, do they do that on purpose (before the mission) in a sort if roundabout way of acknowledging each other presence in their life? What would Mav wear that belongs to Ice (apart from that USNA ring eheh)?

pilots/sailors/doctors etc who do high-level specialized work with their hands tend to really be Watch Guys. and “cheap” rolexes (sub $7k ish) are actually pretty affordable if you’re making >$150k a year and want to treat yourself every fifth christmas or something. source: know several sailors & doctors. ALSO the watch ice is wearing in his famous gay plane photoshoot is actually a rolex. So theres some evidence ice at least is (annoying, ostentatious, bad with money, and) a Watch Guy. Maverick’s also wearing a kickass chronograph in TGM so i think he’s also probably a Watch Guy. also… you know, status symbol, honor, et cetera et cetera…

they probably wear each other’s socks because in-regs socks all look the same and they’re both men so who cares. i also hc that they’ve always worn the same size in shirts so each other’s t-shirts are also free game. and was very confusing at the start of their relationship when trying to figure out whose shirt was whose after a midnight rendezvous. lots of accidental shirt mixups. and, yeah, each other’s watches, because most people only see the status and don’t see the detail, and most people aren’t around both ice and mav enough to recognize that “omg last month adm kazansky was wearing the same omega chronometer capt mitchell is wearing today!! theyre totally together!!!” so if ice buys a new watch and maverick salivates over it, sure he can borrow it, whatever. and i think there’s a scene in wwgattai when maverick wears ice’s pj pants hold up lemme find it

“in bare feet.” now wtf does that mean. that could use a rewrite.

ice also wears mavericks leather jacket when they’re on their baseball date in debriefing. at some point when you live with someone long enough your stuff becomes their stuff which was the point of this graf

thinking about it… trying to decide if they’d wear each other’s cologne. that seems like a little much. no i don’t think so.

Wait, please go feral and explain! What the similarities between Jason and the other bat kids?

Oh damn. Ok, I don't feel like I'm the best qualified for all of these, so I'll do them for the characters I'm famliar with in the aspects I feel confident in and I hope not to seriously mischaracterize anyone! Anyway additions are welcome and very appreciated.

So for Dick this is relating to the earlier post I reblogged in their almost toxic loyalty to Bruce conflicting with their desire to become independent and criticise Bruce as well. This unhealthy dependency they both have would be soo interesting to explore but dc is a cowwarrd..

For Tim it's that Jason and Tim are both acutely aware of the monstrosity of Batman and how that calling is both Bruce's crutch and his downfall as an unhealthy spiral. Both Tim and Jason could be so interesting to explore in their similarity of understanding Bruce and Batman as two seperate entities and how this mentality affects Bruce.

For Steph it's very on the nose and the fandom does acknowledge how Bruce failed both of them and yet dc does not show us meaningful interactions between the two of them exploring how they both deal with these feelings of betrayal and being blamed for why Bruce abandonned them. (victim blaming)

Damian too is interesting because of how Damian can get excused for the actions the bats dissapprove of but Jason will never be forgiven (even though what exactly the issue is is super vague and only somehow defined as "he doesn't fight crime the way we want him to/ he kills criminals sometimes", even though depending on the run Jason has maybe only killed very few people and the bats have been shown to be completely fine with other people who killed. (Wonderwoman, Damian, Ghostmaker). I feel like Damian and Jason should actually have a relationship where they really understand one another and recognize themselves in the other. Also with how they both have the theme of trying to find family and being rejected by family.

Oh and obviously the big guy himself, Bruce Wayne. Bruce and Jason are both unhealthily obsessed with their own trauma and their mission to prevent somthing similar from ever happening to anyone again. They are both made and tied to Gotham (or really should be, grrrr) and they are both psuperficially coldhearted but just a bit deeper down have a bleeding heart of compassion for the people they wish to protect.

So yeah, regarding Jason and the batfam, they're not that different!! Frustrates me when Jason is only used as a one-dimensional side of "good guy gone bad", when he is actually just conflicted by the complexity of justice as is everyone else in the batfam too. Let's fucking talk about that maybe.

I've gotten three unnecessary, unwanted, and ultimately useless hateful comments on my fic in the first 24 hours since posting it. So a quick refresher for people out there:

First, foremost, and most concerning: If someone is in critical condition, unless you have medical training and supplies, HOSPITAL HOSPITAL HOSPITAL. That includes both urgent and emergent triage statuses (in this case, severe blood loss and abdominal wounds going into the abdominal cavity -- intestinal rupture is no joke! Nor is uroabdomen!).

Second of all, I'm sorry if you and your friends have never talked about or looked at each others boobs/chest. Genuinely. On the other hand, me and my friends make fun of each other constantly in good fun and are comfortable enough around each other to talk about our bodies. Your sexually repressed puritanical views have no place in my comments and no place in an irl queer space. Between the two of us, I am not the "weirdo."

Third of all (and whoo boy is this a long one), just because I represent a ship a certain way does not mean I condone their actions in a real life setting. Ffs, I like Hannigram. That means I definitely recommend committing malpractice, non-con drugging, and tubing your crush like a horse. Not To mention cannibalism and framing people for your own serial murders. I'm writing things based on my own experiences and perspective as a queer poc who grew up and got out of a conservative home and state. I'm writing as someone who lives paycheck to paycheck. I write as someone who still fights an internal monologue of shame and repression, of not being good enough, of bitterness and self-loathing making for a critical lens of others. I write as someone who affectionately calls my friends buffoons. As someone who has only ever used terms like "babe" as a derogatory. And I know that isn't for everyone. And I know my experiences aren't universal. But they do shape how I write. And I'm not asking you to like it. I am, however, asking you to consider how your actions affect others and click that back arrow before you say something unnecessary and rude.

Gonna be honest: the slew of asshole comments I've gotten have been more annoying in a "ooh comment oh that's disappointing, look an asshole" way than truly upsetting to me. But I thrive on spite. Not everyone does. For some people, the shit being said would be incredibly hurtful; for me, I thought worse while writing it.

And this bit didn't make the list, but deserves honorable mention: Just because you don't like the way I write something doesn't mean I hate the ship. Yeah. I spent hours of my life writing this and editing it and posting it because I hate it. Sorry, but I'm a full time grad student with a life, a job, and shit to do. I don't have time for ship phishing. I've written more than one fic for this ship, each portraying them a different way. Clearly because I hate the ship?

yknow it may have been almost three and a half years since my two most impactful friendships (not taking into account my ongoing ones there those are plenty impactful) ended but every day I mourn the fact that I will never, ever be able to have a friendship where I feel like I'm on the same wavelength as another person completely. partially because the one friendship in my life that felt like that is over but partly because of how thoroughly my ability to even trust other people has been destroyed. to the extent that I will likely never call anyone new to my life a friend for....well, the rest of my life.

but I also spent three weeks alone in my apartment and not a single person outside of a grocery store cashier even saw me in person, and i was perfectly comfortable with that. so. maybe outside of my roommate and my [coworker/research advisor/other people in my department] im just destined to have good but emotionally distant relationships for the rest of my life.

i don't know if I should be as okay with that as I think I am considering I also want to blow up just thinking about how emotional closeness is something I'm never going to have again in real life. how I'm never really going to have those "stay up and talk all night" kind of life changing momentarily beautiful conversations in person.

but I don't know. maybe I should cut my losses and stop yearning for shit I'm never going to have anyway. i think emotional distance is all I've ever really deserved considering how terrified I am of breaking other people apart the same way 👼 did to me
