If you were really beautiful, you wouldn’t have all this confusion about whether or not you were.

At least that’s the conclusion you’ve reached, after years of unintentionally backhanded compliments, seemingly genuine praise of your appearance, and watching truly beautiful elves and realizing how different you look from them.

Maybe you could pull off the body you have if your personality weren’t such an antithesis to it. 

You remember being a child and dreaming of being grown, of wearing dresses and dancing and living so elegantly. 

You’re an adult now, and yet all you see in the mirror is a child playing dress-up.

It hurts, and sometimes you can manufacture enough confidence to delude yourself for a week or two, but it always cracks, leaving you a crying mess on the floor of your bedroom.

You can’t tell anyone else, either your friends will lie to keep you from getting hurt, or you’ll find you’re envied and hurt someone worse. 

So you tend your wounds alone, in the quiet, in the shadows, where no one sees. And since you know you’ll never be pretty, you cling to your desperate comfort of apathy, pretending your makeup and dress was effortless, and not something you agonized over. 

You don’t know what sparked Tidus’ interest in you. In fact you think it’s ridiculous. He’s the elf every elleth is smitten with, even if they have already lovers of their own. Tall, handsome, gifted with dragons and art, kind and friendly to the point it grates on your nerves.

You’re cold, distant, exacting, and would love to wither in the presence of anyone else. Being drawn to him feels like a cliché, like defeat.

It feels real, genuine, and that’s the most frightening part of it all.

You don’t know exactly how you made it here, laying under the star-littered sky, your head resting on Tidus’ chest, his arm around your shoulders absent-mindedly playing with your hair.

Your eyes gently close. Your lips curve faintly into a smile. “This feels like heaven,” you muse. 

“I don’t think heaven has angels half as beautiful as you.”

You feel your cheeks flush, but your smile drops for a second. “Only because I’m so in love,” you respond, but it comes out more stilted than you expected. 

You fall back into silence, soothed by his hand in your hair and the steady sound of his heartbeat. 

“Why do you always seem so uncomfortable when I call you beautiful?”

You sit up in surprise, catching the gaze of the ellon. His face is furrowed in thought. 

“I’m just not used to it, that’s all.”

He seems unconvinced, like he knows you’re hiding something. He begins slowly, “If I’ve been acting inappropriately, I never meant…”

“No!” you cut him off, “No, it’s not you at all. I just don’t usually think of myself as beautiful.”

This seems to further confuse him . “But you are beautiful…”

You sigh, “I know, I know. Can we just stop talking about it? Please?” You lean down to leave a chaste kiss upon his lips. “Please.”

He relents, and you resume your quiet stargazing, every moment imagining someone else with him, the prettier someone you always thought was the real you hidden away, in love on the moonlit mountainside.

Farran and Johnny

They go way back to their school days. Farran (and Azari) loiter around the bakery hoping for freebies as Johhny's beloved "testers". Maybe they dated, maybe they flirted, they sure can't tell.

Farran and Tidus

They don't cross paths super often, but they get along great when they do meet up.

Farran and Cronan

They only really have a connection through Emily, and thus have that proximity to each other. There's no 1 on 1 between them, but they keep it polite. I'd think further down the line they start actually talking to each other and become casual friends then.

Tidus and Cronan

Professional relationship. Cronan and Rosalyn brought their dragons to him for regular magic therapy appointments. Tidus keeps in touch to check up on Ashwing, but there's nothing more than that.

Tidus and Johnny

Azari introduced them and they've gotten along great ever since. Tidus regularly orders stuff from Johnny, and Johnny is taking lessons in hopes of bonding with his own bakery dragon.

Johnny and Cronan

They've never met. Cronan is aware of Johnny due to the bakery's fame. Johnny is aware of Cronan due to his status as a royal.
