From In-Between the Lines
CoD Fae!Au - Fae!Price x The Writer (Fem!Reader) - Part 1
SYNOPSIS : When the writer runs out of inspiration, she decides to do what she has always been afraid to : take her writing away from the safety of her little apartment, in the outside world where ideas are often said to be flourishing. What she doesn’t realise is that she might find more than what she came for - hidden in the mesmerising smile of a peculiar stranger.
WARNINGS : Predator behavior (Fae VS Human), anxious thoughts…

Writing has never been an easy thing.
It works like a muscle : for it to function properly, one would need to train it constantly, again and again, until it eventually starts giving conclusive results. A concept devoid of limits such as this one is made to offer more than a thousand opportunities for one to get better, to keep opening new doors leading to countless universes. Each and every world is unique and fascinating, waiting for a wandering soul to find it before blooming like a flower, wild and colorful.
Many people find it easy to put their discoveries in writing, claiming how it is as effortless as breathing. Words flow through the ink of their minds, using their newfound freedom to paint thousands of mesmerising landscapes with the perfect assortment of letters. Their characters are never afraid of the idea of evolving, constantly diving in the depths of their own existence to try and understand the paths they’re trying to follow ; and their creators easily fulfill this endless choregraphy, their pen gliding across a piece of paper without missing a single beat.
For some other writers, however, following them on this stage without stumbling over their own feet turns out to be much more difficult. When ideas disappear and the ink stops flowing, when their characters hide in the darkest corners of their thoughts, reducing them to being unable to give any kind of meaning to their words for days, it becomes impossible for them to breathe life into their stories.
Those are the exact thoughts that run through her head as the Writer sits at her desk, trying to muster enough inspiration and courage to write. Her laptop lays in front of her, the cursor blinking in the middle of a blank page. Countless papers pile next to the keyboard, holding as many scribbles of ideas and dialogues as possible in their grasp. Covered in highlights and colorful post-it notes, their precarious balance threatens to send them flying with every tired sigh crossing her lips. A few cups of coffee stand nearby, their contents long forgotten. She shifts in her seat every few minutes, and she finds herself unable to stop a hiss from crossing her lips when her fluffy socks twist uncomfortably around her ankles. It is way too early to be thinking so hard about a story, she thinks, feeling her tired eyes drift towards the bold « 9:32 » displayed at the bottom of her computer screen.
A shout echoes oustide of her window, and the streets suddenly become much more interesting than the never-changing aspect of her document. The autumn wind blows waves and waves of dried leaves, igniting the sidewalks with a mesmerising gradient of warm colours. They illuminate the concrete as they dance along the road, and she immediately compares them to the fireflies twirling in the summer nights, both extremely similar and drastically different.
A part of her wonders what it would be like to lose herself in her own world while being lulled by the colorful breeze. She doesn’t leave her apartment often, especially not to write, and the prospect of having to face the many dangers of the noisy streets and their unfamiliar faces is far from appealing. But she needs to refill her inspiration, and something tells her some fresh air could help ; the kind of air her apartment will never have, even with the help of an open window.
Following this train of thoughts, she gives up on her fluffy sweater and socks in favour of a warm yet comfortable outfit. Her trusty backpack is filled with her writing essentials before being thrown over her shoulder while her anxiety is painfully shoved in the back of her throat. She stumbles through the front door before it can try to convice her to give up on this endeavor, one of her sneakers barely secured around her ankle.
- You’re not helping, she mumbles, tucking her foot correctly inside of the shoe while exiting the building.
The wind doesn’t waste a second before offering her a shivering greeting. Its kisses are cold on her cheeks, and she lets out a grumble as her nose is quickly buried within the warmth of her scarf. Her hands take a few seconds to fumble with her headphones. She then finally begins her adventure through the neighbourhood, her head swaying gently along the rhythm of her favourite playlist.
It doesn’t take long for her steps to guide her to the small forest standing at the edge of the town. It thrives under the city’s protection, its borders mixing with a park to offer a fleeting moment of rest to those who wish to forget their urban troubles. The Writer has always liked to follow the trail marking the limit between the organized aspect of the human civilisation and the wilderness of those woods, savouring the scent of nature while on her way to the many small businesses flourishing along the streets hiding on the other side.
And today is no exception.
The trees hold the warm hues of autumn in their grasp, and so does the soil at their feet. She can make out the dancing reflections of the morning dew on their leaves, glinting mischievously whenever a ray of sunlight dares to greet them. The scent of petrichor adds a dreamy touch to the whole painting, hidden among the graceful swirls of a delicate veil of mist. She has always liked spending time in nature, admiring its ever-changing beauty and gathering all the inspiration it has to offer to embellish her stories.
Yet in this moment, as a sudden gust of wind forces her clothes to dance around her shivering form, leaving a trail of disturbed flora in its wake, she can’t stop an eerie feeling from crawling in the back of her mind. The light above her suddenly seems to dim, the road curving slightly to cross the borders of the wilderness.
She loves this forest.
But at the same time, she doesn’t.
Perhaps this peculiar dichotomy comes from the many disappearances a part of these earthy paths keep witnessing, or the dark, ominous trees surrounding them. Their thick, mossy branches swallow every ounce of light the sun has to offer, leaving only shadows to dance in-between their roots. Something in her mind tells her to stay away from them, to never let her feet leave the expanse of her little road of dirt. Her steps are quick, and her heart pounds wildly against her chest. She focuses on her destination, trying to ignore the knots forming progressively in her stomach, the goosebumps running down her skin.
She pretends not being able to hear the mischievous laughter hiding in the whistling breeze. These voices would probably get a comfortable role in her stories ; but, in real life, their echo is too unsettling to be admired.
Her pace only slows once the soles of her shoes meet the familiar texture of concrete. She breathes out a sigh. Holding a hand on her chest as if it could help her catch her breath, she mindlessly follows the line traced by the sidewalk. Her lungs are slowly being set free from the iron grip that seized them, but her blood keeps rushing in her ears for what seems like an eternity.
Her thoughts suddenly come to a halt as the aroma of freshly baked goods flows around her. There, a few meters away from her, a small café reveals itself to her curious gaze. Its daily menu stands proudly in the middle of the path, its contents shamelessly tempting her, even more so when she notices the very few people sitting behind the windows. Her curiosity gently tucks her previous fears aside as she pushes on the door, momentarily focusing her attention on the little bell giggling above her.
She pauses her music as she goes to stand in line, her body immediately rocking back and forth to follow the rhythm of the lo-fi echoing against the bricks of the walls. A series of succulent hang from a couple of shelves, their green hues enveloping the spines of a few decorative books. The man in front of her moves slightly to the side, and her eyes fall upon the counter, where rows of delicacies of all kinds greet her sight.
A silent tremor overwhelms her stomach, and only then does she notice the fact that she is yet to have a proper breakfast.
She settles for a warm drink and a small pastry before finding a small table in a corner of the room. It doesn’t take long for her notebooks and laptop to quickly fill the whole space, piling next to one another. The same blank page automatically opens itself on her screen, greeting her with a small jingle before she sushes it with a trembling hand, cursing herself for forgetting to do it earlier as her gaze immediately darts around to see if anyone noticed her clumsiness. However, only the big Monstera plant sitting next to her meets her gaze, and she allows one of its leaves to pet her arm reassuringly, silently thanking it for the comfort it immediately came to provide.
- Back to work, then, she mumbles, grabbing a pen from a pocket of her coat. Those characters won’t develop themselves.
The ink flows smoothly over the pages of one of her notebooks. She lays as many ideas down as possible, trying to connect them to form a more interesting concept. Some of them end up being crossed out, giving up their place to another set of words that would work better with the story. From time to time, she takes a sip from her drink, munches on a bite of her food, as if trying to bribe her thoughts into working more efficiently. Yet it doesn’t prevent her from stumbling over her main character ; his essence refuses to adopt a defined shape, no matter how hard she tries to focus on the potential details she could weave into his soul. Stubborn as a mule, he remains a vague silhouette in the fog of her mind, mocking her with a voice she can’t even hear properly.
Her pen fall from her grasp, and she barely holds back a frustrated growl as she rubs her tired eyes. Displayed on her computer screen, her Pinterest board stares at her blankly, devoid of any source of inspiration despite the many portraits it holds. She shuts it down, focusing her attention on the other clients crowding the café. Perhaps a few minutes of people-watching could help, she thinks, silently detailing the different silhouettes living not far from her.
Her eyes abruptly stop on a figure sitting on the other side of the small room.
There, a man lounges with his back against the wall, one leg lazily thrown over the other. A tiny cup of coffee dangles from one of his hands, the other holding a book open for his own eyes to explore. The light coming from the window highlights his pale complexion, curving around the muscles the sleeves of his cardigan decided to unveil. He seems relaxed, even slouching a little the more he focuses on the volume in front of him ; yet the corner he decided to settle in only brings out the broadness of his shoulders even more as he brings the drink to his lips, runs a hand through the short, thick beard adorning his face.
He holds a calm, yet imposing presence, and the Writer finds herself mesmerised. A peculiar feeling pulls at her chest, as if this man held the magic she needed to set her inspiration free. Her character slowly starts to take his place, brought to life on the stage of her thougts.
Her hand snatches her pen before she can even realise it. A string of words flow from her mind, only stopping when she focuses once again on her muse to find the exact terms she is looking for. Half an hour passes before she is finally satisfied with what she came up with.
Her sigh of relief gets stuck in her throat as she looks up from her notebook, her eyes suddenly locking with the stranger’s.
She startles, barely catching her drink before it can flood the entirety of her notes. She busies herself with the last few bites of her pastry as she tries to tame her racing heart - distracting herself from the weight of his gaze on her trembling form. She can only hope he will quickly divert his attention elsewhere, hoping he didn’t take offense in her staring.
Yet he doesn’t.
Temporarily setting his book aside, the man leans even further back into his chair, his interest awakened by the young woman squirming in her seat. He had been trying to catch her gaze for a moment now, torn from the imaginary world sitting in his hands by a tingling feeling on the back of his mind. If he wondered for a moment about the amount of notebooks, post-it notes and individual papers laying on her table, he found himself much more curious about their owner.
He noticed how, despite her clear interest in her surroundings, she never really seems to sit straight, as if trying to make herself smaller in her corner of the café. He believes it to be done subconsciously, however, for he can see how focused she is on her work. A faint wave of magic dances around her, small enough for her to probably not even know of it ; yet he can sense how it is constantly impacting her life. Feeding her inspiration, helping it flourish ; drawing it towards ideas a part of her can’t fully comprehend.
Luring her to him.
What an appetizing thought.
Their eyes meet as she slowly lifts her head up once more, and he raises his cup in her direction, a warm smile drawn on his lips. She offers him a small nod before turning away. A timid hand comes to cover her cheek, and his teeth suddenly feel too sharp behind his lips ; his mouth way too empty.
A part of him longs to get closer to her. Strike a conversation. Throw himself into the hunt. But it is far too early for him to pounce. His centuries of experience showed him more than once how rewarding it could be to wait, to let his prey simmer in a blissful ignorance as he takes the time to enhance the flavour of their body and soul.
The young woman sitting in front of him already has the potential to be a delightful meal. But for now, he shall be content with the taste her sole presence sets on his tongue, this delicate aroma taking over the bitterness of his coffee.
He just needs to be patient.

It’s the night you almost get hit by a car while crying on the sidewalk. The night you finally make a grown up decision, that really does it. With the rain pouring down on your back, eyes puffy and cold dripping from your lashes, nose, chin—body an aching, hollow shell and your throat screamed sore— you put a forceful point at the end of this line. A deserved end. Not particularly exciting, no hateful confessions or shattered plates on the floor, just a simple cracked door and a long, fed up sigh. A voice in the back of your mind thinks you deserve it. Your rational thought knows you really don’t.
The following afternoon your shit is packed, and though you wish you had the energy left to be upset, you’re just really, really tired. The two connected flights are long.
The bus ride is even longer.
Dragging yourself down the swerves of the dusty street, your palm glides along your sticky neck to get the hairs away from your skin, other hand ungracefully hauling your luggage behind. Crushed cans litter the sidewalk, cigarettes still smoking as they meet the cement. And though the damp heat feels just as awful on your skin as the ever-lasting rain back home, there’s a deep relief that settles under your muscles. A glow that beams from the seams in the road and clings to the houses, houses that stand more slumped in on themselves than upright.
Across the street sits a low hanging black car— gleaming in the sun, and the same loud roaring of roided engines and tired brake screeches you’ve been hearing accompanies the feeling of a coming headache. The skin of your palms is chafed and tender. The ‘comfortable walk’ you’d been warned for over text, that’d been a load of dogshit. Luckily for you, your mood is still more up than down even as you finally make it up the hill and drop your bags. Of course, they land ungracefully off the path in the slightly dreary garden as you ring the bell.
The wait isn't long. There’s a padding of feet down the hall, and then a click— before you’re flung back with the force of a body connecting with yours. The door clatters obnoxiously as it slams against the frame, making you laugh when the crudely written ‘welcome home’ plate drops and lands nicely next to the mat. The hearts drawn around your name are long and lopsided, clearly one of the husband’s finer works.
You peel your collar away from sticking to your clammy chest, meeting the large, bright eyes head-on. “Finally! I thought I might have to send a search party out already.” Your sister giggles when you pull a face and disconnect yourself from her, squeezing her hand in return.
You smile back well enough, though you can tell by her calculated gaze she’s definitely taking note of the way it slips a bit too quickly. Her face is sharper than you remember it being, with some freckles littering her cheeks because of the summer weather. “You fucking wish. You’ll have to clothe and feed me until I do, I'm afraid.” It easily passes your lips though, even with the heat and the ache in your lower back. There’s no one to blame that on other than yourself for sitting the way you did, one leg propped up against the cold window the entire ride. You’ll have a blast sleeping all of those complaints off for the next two days straight.
“I’m already working on it,” she winks, then moves out of the doorway to motion inside, “please, come in. Erwin will be home soon, I’ll ask him if he can carry your luggage upstairs. In the meantime, if you want to take a shower, I can finish up in the kitchen. Sound good?”
You can only nod, taking her soft squeeze of your shoulder as a cue to pick your stuff up from the floor and at least drop it off in the hall. Which is significantly cooler, luckily. Bless your sister for the AC. “Didn’t Erwin say he was going to ‘fix up’ your patch of weeds last summer?” You snicker when your sister shoots you a warning look, her smile creeping up even as she tries to hold it back.
“Don’t even get me started. I love that man, I really do,” she pops a hip out to lean into the doorframe, brushing some hair out of her face, “but garden work is not his forté. Nor is painting for that matter, so if you want to paint over that horrible purple in your room, you’re safer asking literally anyone else.” As you hold back your laugh, you watch as she slips into the kitchen to check on the veggies for a second, and pick at a loose thread sticking out of the bottom of your top.
She doesn’t ask, and you don’t really feel like telling right now. But despite that, your stomach tenses uncomfortably as you shift your weight from one side to the other. “Hey, Pet?” Your sister glances over her shoulder, almost surprised to see you lingering, as you look to the floor. “I’m sorry for taking up—”
“Don’t you dare,” Petra quickly cuts you off, a soft but sure look on her face. “You’re more than welcome. You and me, we stick together, right? And Erwin was the one who suggested it in the first place, so you don’t have to worry about a thing. Needing some help once in a while isn’t a damn crime.” She takes a deep breath, then shoos you down the hall with a little hum. “Just go take a shower, maybe take a nap. You deserve it.“ Your older sister is a good person. Doesn’t make it any less painful when you close the bathroom door behind you though, the burning behind your eyes less and less easy to ignore with each breath. After holding it in all weekend, you could really use a good cry.

If he was to describe this place in one word, maybe he’d label it ‘devotion’. The garage smells of metal and salt from the countless hours of hard work spent here. It smells of rust, of oil and gas, of fire and of rubber tires, and to Eren— for as long as he’s spent here, it has no other feeling than that of affection. He’s never been one for sentiments, but this place is the closest he has to a lifelong dream, and the suffocating heat that collects behind the metal gate feels like home. The shop is a mess, a total of four unfinished cars in various states of disrepair at his hands, at his mercy.
He straightens up from under the deep red mustang, Jean’s. A piece of crap, really. An old, banged up thing with multiple sets of changed parts and some god-awful gold wheel caps that he’s thought of just tossing out the entire time the car has been in his sight. If Jean wouldn’t give him shit for the rest of his life for it, he would’ve already. And still might, if he’s being honest. He wipes the black grime covering his hands on the rag over his shoulder, sighs, then crosses his arms over his chest.
The 65’ model is a beauty though, old school chic. Wasted on a chump like Jean of all people, Eren can’t help but think. Putting the rusted bolts on the trolley next to him, he runs the back of his hand across his forehead, then drags his fingers through his hair. A familiar, happy-go-lucky voice breaks his train of thought. Soft despite the loudness of the AC, and Eren needs to turn over his shoulder to hear him. “Howzit working out here?”
His golden eyed friend walks into the room with a rag swung over his shoulder, halfway through tying the arms of his jumpsuit around his waist and leaving his top half bare. Small beads of sweat sit on his friend’s collarbones from being in the back all afternoon, Eren choosing not to say anything about the safety hazard of walking around like that. The weather is enough to give anyone a damn heatstroke. The brunet shakes his head as he looks back at the car, before pushing himself off the cool floor to grab a hair tie.
“I changed part of the rear axle and the bolts to get her lower on the floor, but I can’t really do much about the corners,” Eren’s voice deep and low, unbothered by the metallic banging from the back. “Jean just needs to ease off the throttle when she under-steers in the turns, I’ve told him before. I can’t fix the way the damn car rides. His fault he’s a shit driver, not mine.” His calloused hands tighten around the rag when he finishes, looking over at the shorter man when he hums.
Connie rummages through one of the shelves as he thinks, before obnoxiously clicking his tongue. “‘M surprised you even got her up and running again with how he drives that baby into the ground.” He pulls out the pair of jumper cables he was searching for, then cracks open the fridge for another beer. “Want one?”
Eren shakes only his head in response. Connie isn’t the brightest, a self admitted flaw too, but he’s a long time friend. Understands his love for this place better than anyone else, and that’s something he learned to appreciate somewhere in the more than fifteen years he’s known the guy. The same can be said for Jean too, though he’s not about to admit that to his smug face.
Quickly tying his hair up in a bun, Eren jerks his thumb towards the main door of the garage. “I’ll finish up some of the engine stuff later, I’m gonna go grab something to eat on the 6th. You coming?”
“Rain check, dude! I’ve been slacking all day,” Connie gives him an apologetic look, that Eren waves off. Not looking forward to playing house, sure, but he’s had to handle worse.
Eren is only one drink in when the diner starts picking up people, and the rowdy group of kids in the first booth over start chanting for shots. At 5pm. He can’t pretend like his own college days were much better, but the noise is still a fucking bother he’s not quite willing to put up with today. As he gets up, Jean only lifts one eyebrow, raising his own beer to his lips as Armin and Mikasa continue in conversation.
Eren offers a tight ‘need a smoke’, shoving his hands into the large pockets of his coveralls and sliding past the group of sloppy undergrads. Some of the girls elbow each other as he throws them a glance, and he almost chuckles when one of the boyfriends’ links his hands with hers again, thunder on his face. Fucking kids still, truly. He’s quick to walk out, enjoying the lowering sun on his skin as he rounds the Marlboro pack and picks out a smoke with quick fingers. He shoves the thing between his lips and strikes the lighter, takes a deep pull as he watches the blue of a car speed past.
It stops at the end of the road, and Eren can’t help but notice how the 66’ deep blue Miura P400 calls to him. A familiar tingle makes its way down his spine as he watches the driver get out and enter a shop across the street. It’d be too easy to spark her to a start, wouldn’t even take him a full two minutes. But as soon as the thought comes, he pushes it back down. He doesn’t wonder much if Zeke would bother bailing him out this time. A solid ‘no’, if their last meeting was anything to go by. Besides, he doesn’t work like that anymore. So he goes back to mulling over more pressing matters as the smoke calms his nerves, taking deep pulls until there’s nothing more than a charred, little stump left between his two fingers.
Then, when he’s finally coming to terms with having to head back in and make small talk with his friends, a few taps come to the exposed skin of his forearm. He turns to you with a sigh and his eyebrows screwing tighter, drops his eyes a little more to find yours where you stand. Your arms fly back behind you, and if you weren’t lacing your fingers together and pushing your chest out like a peacock presenting it’s feathers you’d look confident.
But he’s not in the mood, and the ‘hah?’ he offers you makes you wilt a little. You take a step back, before swaying in place a few times, clearly uncomfortable under his narrowed gaze. The grass that sticks from between the sidewalk next to your feet is carrying small yellow flowers, bobbing gently up and down in the bright summer sun where you stand much the same. Rocking back on your heels as you smile. It’d be some measure of adorable to most, but Eren isn’t exactly one to swoon anymore.
He can only guess what the hell you want with him, more than aware of the rep he has around these parts. Most are smart enough not to bother the lot of them. You don’t look stupid, but he also wouldn’t exactly put it past someone your age— or what he estimates you to be, at the very least. When he doesn’t speak, your face grows a little hotter at the cheeks, your eyebrows moving up. You have an interesting face, beautiful and innocent in the way your lashes frame your eyes dark and doe-like. Pretty. But wasting his time.
“I’m- s-sorry to bother,” you finally speak, fumbling with something behind your back- and you really should be, he thinks for a second, should probably learn to leave a stranger to his thoughts- “but I would… I-I need—” Ah, ‘course. He cuts you off with a hum.
“You’ve got the wrong one, sugar,” he lets out slowly, “you’re lookin’ for Kirstein. Yay high, smug face, looking like a prick somewhere in there. He’s the one who sells the stuff, not me.” He’s already turned away from you again to plop another cigarette between his lips as he waves a hand over at the diner door. Mikasa would scold him for having two in a row, but his thoughts still don't feel as blank as he wants them to be, and Mikasa isn’t here, is she? He keeps the unlit thing between his lips as he searches his pockets for the lighter, only to be interrupted by the same taps, your nail drumming against his bicep. To his confusion, and slight annoyance, you’re not gone.
“Ah, thanks for the… advice?” you drawl, no longer shrinking in on yourself when his sharp gaze finds yours once more. “But I’m not trying to buy anything. I just wanted to ask if you would mind holding these for me for just a second?” You uncover the stack of flyers you were fidgeting with from behind you, nodding over at some of the stuff under the nearest light post. “Gotta hang these up and I need both my hands, y’know.” Eren doesn’t bother responding right away, moving the dart from one side of his mouth to the other with his tongue as he gives you another quick up and down. So you step a bit closer, as if the distance is the thing holding him back. “I don’t want them to fly away.”
The sun beams down on the both of you as you hold the stack of pink flyers out to him, a bead of sweat rolling down your neck as you wait. It’s almost laughable, really, how slow you are at taking a hint. Or maybe you just have horrible people skills, because you only blink before he finally finds his lighter and turns halfway to the side. “I’m kinda busy.”
“And I’m sure you are, but you have a perfectly fine hand that can hold my flyers while you smoke?” Though you phrase it as a question and by your inviting expression, he’s pretty sure it’s meant as one, one of his eyebrows rises at the attitude laced under the words despite himself. Eren can basically see his disinterest switch flip from annoyed to slightly amused, and before he really thinks better of it he once again motions his palm towards you.
“Give it.” It’s short and stern, and you smile much too wide and too genuine for such a small success. He lets you slip one of the flyers from under his thumb, before blowing out another cloud. You tuck it under your chin as you grab your tape and scissors in your hands and set to it on the street light, humming under your breath. He can’t help but watch you from the corner of his eye, a little surprised you don’t spare him another glance. Not that he’s irresistible like that, though Eren also knows he’s far from bad on the eyes. He’s just used to more… well, just more. Usually it’s either disdain or barely concealed want. You’re really showing neither.
He resists the urge to roll his eyes far enough back into his head to see black for a second when you mumble to yourself, almost sticking tape to your hair. But then you finish, bound back towards him like a little pup without a care in the world, and pull another of the papers from the stack with a soft ‘thank you’, licking your lip before flashing him another smile.
As you walk to the next light and Eren takes another long pull to watch the red-hot end crawl closer to his lips, he takes a proper look at the flyers. There’s ice cream cones and waffles with little faces and hearts under a big logo ‘Petra’s’, with enough pink and orange, sugar and spice to make him grimace. You fit the bill at least. It lasts a few minutes until you run out of lamp posts and he runs out of cigarette, before you softly take the rest of the stack from him- your fingers just barely brush as he pulls back.
“Thank you!”
Without really processing why, the brunet stares down at the crown of your head until you meet his eyes. He’s rewarded when you do, a glittering flash of warmth that washes over your face. And though a complaint of his wasted time does flash through his mind first, he swallows it in favor of shooting the butt towards the street with his fingers, rubbing his palm along the base of his neck. He moves his jaw back and forth a few times, before speaking. “Don’t worry ‘bout it.” He can already hear Jean’s bitching in the back of his mind when his phone buzzes in his pocket, paying you no mind as he makes his way back to the diner.
And thinks that’ll be it. All it should be, anyway.

An encounter. That’s all it is.
Where you wipe your sweaty palms on your apron, your sister tutts and beats your hand away to pass you a tissue instead, waving at a couple that passes by the store ever graciously. Petra places her palms on the counter, leaning over the aluminum basket you plonked down earlier, and looks at you. “Cream, machine, let it freeze as it stirs and take it out when half frozen until it looks about right,” you repeat, glancing over your shoulder at her. Her pretty face is held in a frown, but she does her best to smile while you take a spoon to taste the ice cream you’ve made.
As you plop the mouthful in, she gives you a cursory look, before glancing back down to her watch. “Yeah, that’s all. You know how to make the waffles too, right?” You nod a curt yes, before her brows unlace from each other. “Good, just— don’t play around too much? I know you can follow instructions fine, but this place is my baby, and it’s the only thing paying for the car and I-”
“Petra, I got it,” you assure, smiling wider when she bites her lip.
“I know, I know. I’m just sorry for jumping this on you. Erwin will be here in three hours to take over! And I’ll pay for drinks, promise! Love you, you’re a dear.” You wave her off towards the back when she unties her apron, and slot the new ice cream basket into the display next to the others.
Standing near it in this weather is a blessing. You had warm summers back home too, but not ever— like this. It’s been the biggest change to your day-to-day so far, leading you to pick up even the shorter dresses from the back of your closet to squeeze back into. When she comes back around, you pick up part of the failed waffles from earlier and plop it into your mouth too.
“Good to know that you don’t think I’m totally incompetent.”
Her laugh bounces around the store too easily, dusting a stray crumb off a table. “Not totally, no. I just think you’re mildly incompetent,” she answers, to which you only bite back a laugh and shoo her down the hall. With a wave she slips out the door, leaving you to your devices. The flyers you hung so nicely have since been ruined because of the rain or landed on the sidewalk and trampled, looking more sad than inviting where they hang, half-ripped paper flapping in the breeze.
The thought of cleaning that up later doesn’t seem too pleasant. When people walk by you manage a wide smile despite it, and look out into the street. A pastime that proves more than a bit useful when you catch onto that dark hair, tall shape and dark blue coveralls. It really shouldn’t be too surprising to see the stranger here again considering the neighboring diner, but you had never stopped to debate the possibility that you could see him again. That’s how chance encounters usually go, don't they?
You find yourself leaning over the counter a little further, only to remember the heat that had flushed to your cheeks and ears last time. And just like last time, it strikes you how attractive he is, strong brows and those deep aquamarine eyes that could drown a girl without any effort, looking fit and toned and grown. He stuffs a hand into his jacket pocket as he crosses the road, looking a little scruffier than last time you saw him, and for a moment you feel bad for ogling the stranger so blatantly. But that moment passes when he looks up to catch your eyes, brows raising just enough to read as surprise.
A wave of warmth fills your chest at being remembered, even as he smooths his face back into indifference, even as he clenches his jaw and slows his approach. He doesn’t exactly look welcoming, but he didn’t last time either. The tick in his brow is attractive enough to distract you from it in the first place. You hadn’t meant to start anything when you’d approached him, but looking him over again now, you can’t help but be a little more giddy with your past self and her choices. “You’re here,” he says, voice just as silky and deep as last time. He’s already halfway into entering the diner when he does, unbothered at the possibility of being in the way.
“I’m here,” you offer back, making him blink.
“You Petra?” He keeps one side of his mouth still as he talks to keep his smoke in his mouth, a little line pulling between his brows as he sort-of glares at you under those thick lashes. Despite his still young-ish appearance— you have no doubt there’s at least a couple years of difference. You can tell from the stubble and the sharper jaw, as well as the way he carries himself. He stays quiet again until you shake your head, twirling your spoon absentmindedly in your hand.
“No, I’m the little sister.” And then, before he can try to wave you off again, you offer your name for good measure. “Y’want some ice cream? It’s hot as balls out here.” Though he doesn’t acknowledge or even humor you, you don’t miss the way his eyes travel along the curve of your neck when you shift onto your elbow and— oh, you can work with that. Whatever flickers in his eyes is gone when he blinks, looks from the diner door back to you, then frowns.
He picks his dart out of his lips to hold it between his fingers, cocks his head back a little. “I don’t like ice cream.” You can’t help but act out a very similar motion, biting the inside of your cheek. He lets the door drop closed to fold his arms across his chest, biceps bulging under the rolled up sleeves. Fuck. The sun sits low enough to create a dappled pattern on his warm skin, and in return, your own body seems to sing with heat. But before you can get too distracted you run a nail along the glass of the display, and pull a lip between your teeth.
“Well, then come talk to me for a little bit!” Another few breaths of silence pass without answer. And honestly, you don’t know why you’re putting in so much effort. He has barely entertained you in now a second encounter, and if it was anyone else… you might’ve given up after a bad introduction. But maybe it’s the change of scenery or the magnetic way he handles himself, you can’t help your interest. He feels familiar, your mind unhelpfully supplies, though you can’t put your finger on what it is. It’s not the way Petra or Erwin feel familiar, nor the way your old friends did.
But, you enjoy the deep tremble of his voice, warm but not burning. He takes another pull from his dart, and then looks around the street— for what you’re not certain. When he blows out his smoke, he sighs. “I don’t like talking either.”
Your giggle is a little too eager, a little too honest as you put your ice cream scoop back in it’s watery bucket. “Hmh, I think you’ll find that you’re in the minority for both there.” He doesn’t really react, and you don’t really mind. You pick another piece of sugared waffle to keep you busy, talking with your hand in front of your mouth. “You live here long?”
You’re a try-hard. Trying too hard, most definitely. His aquamarine gaze is enough to make you fluster with that fact, cheeks heating up fast. As if satisfied with your response, he hums and relaxes a little, enough to note at least how he straightens up and folds his arm behind his head for a stretch. “For long enough to know you’re new.” His eyes back to your lips, your eyes, before clears his voice. “I gotta— I got people back there waiting for me, so…”
“Oh, yeah, obviously,” you dust your hands on your apron again before giving him a little salute, mentally smacking yourself. Desperate and weird, then. “I’ll uhm—see you around?”
It’s the way he only nods before putting out the end of his smoke under his heavy boots that has you deciding you should stop while you’re ahead. But it’s the way he mouths an easy, smooth ‘later’ that has you wishing it comes a bit sooner than that. The music and loud swell of conversation from inside comes to meet your ears as he pulls open the door of the diner again, but fades just as quick as it came when he walks through the door and lets it drop closed behind him with a sigh.

Eren sighs as he sinks further into the chair, hands limply laying on his thighs. He can’t even have a day of not being bothered by loud-mouth brats, it seems.
Sweat collected at his hairline, a cold drink sitting on the edge of the table in front. His black shirt clings to his chest, sticking uncomfortably to his back like a tight hug. He takes a swig, runs his tongue over his teeth, people watching as the bass makes his headache just a bit more pressing than it already was. This isn’t his place, hasn’t been for a while now, and yet— here he sits, pressed in the booth right in the center of the club, able to survey the entire room.
This is a privilege that comes with the reputation, Zeke Jaeger’s younger brother, the one that got locked up in juvie for 3 years. His fingers tremble slightly when he looks over his shoulder, looking for one of the bartenders. He’d like a smoke right about now, when doesn’t he, but he doesn’t feel like pressing between the sweaty, dancing bodies to make his way to the door. Instead he reaches for the whiskey glass teetering dangerously close to the edge and downs it without thinking. A vicious burn sits at the back of his mouth. but he remains tight lipped.
The club music is almost deafening, bass trembling through skin and bone. His friends are lounging in the seats, some more occupied than others. The girl next to him has her tongue so far down Connie’s throat that she must be able to taste every drink he’s had in his entire life. Instead Eren makes eye contact with one of the bartenders and lifts his glass. “Aren’t you glad I dragged you out of your cave?”
The voice from his other side barely reaches over the music. Jean’s hands are stuffed in his pockets, light brown hair sticking to his forehead as he grins. He swings an arm over Eren’s shoulder and squeezes. “Loosen up a little, ‘ren. You’ve grown so damn reclusive since you moved out of my place.”
That ticks him off more than it should, though he tries his very best not to let it show. “You know why I can’t loosen up, Jean. Don’t try your bullshit on me, I’m not in the mood.”
“Yeah, you’re never in the mood,” Jean chimes back, only rolling his eyes when Eren shrugs him off. “But you’re good, right? Not gonna do anything stupid?” It’s followed by a quick nod over at Mikasa that Eren pointedly ignores in favor of keeping the peace. Because it’s just so well-kept already. At that moment, the bartender of earlier sheepishly walks up, and fills his glass back halfway, leaving the whole bottle on the table while he’s at it. Eren changes topic.
“How does she drive now, anyway?” The aching in his lungs is distracting, his well-worked hands playing with the chain hanging from his belt.
“She drives great, as always. Know you do good work or I wouldn’t pay you. She doesn’t shake like that anymore.” The lighter brunet tosses the last of his drink back and reaches for the bottle to fill up again. “You know, that rattling sound she made?”
“One day I’m not gonna be able to fix that rust bucket of yours,” Eren returns quickly, a smile pulling at his lips before he can stop it. Jean’s comically offended look doesn’t wane. “Get yourself a new one, for fuck sake.”
“How about you shut your mouth? Just do the job I pay you for and stop complaining.”
It’s quaint, bickering back and forth like the old days for a little longer before Eren finally decides he’s had enough and stands from the seats. Armin and Mikasa are making out on the dance floor by the time he gets to them, no doubt will forget about it by the morning. So he doesn’t say anything about leaving, just grabs his jacket and squeezes through the crowd. He’s all but run dry of niceties for the night, and when he’s not nice he brings on disaster.
So you choose that as the perfect time to let your small hand wrap around his wrist when you notice him, looking more than a little buzzed. With a little strand of your hair sticking to your lipgloss and those pretty eyes aimed right at him, you look good. He doesn’t blame the guy you must’ve been talking to for glaring. But his knee bounces up and down a few times in stress and annoyance when the crowd sticks too close to his back, and you lean in. “Hey!”
Eren doesn’t bother holding you back when you wobble a little closer, patience running too thin for any of this. “Thanks again for the other day!” He knows he should try to at least give you back something, an acknowledgement or greeting or something, but tonight really, really isn’t his night.
“Let me go,” he just bites back, pulling out of your loose grip quick enough to miss how your face morphs from surprise to embarrassment real quick. There’s the vague drumming of a headache starting at his temples, and Eren basically shoulders through the rest to the group of sloppy, dancing people until he gets to the door.

Fitzroy vs. Ferdinand: The Coming of Age of Snippers
Fitzroy Maplecourt walks down the hallway, looking eagerly out of the windows. His eyes shined, reflecting the golden rays of the sun.
"What a lovely day," he muses, eying the cloudless sky. "Maybe I should go explore a little." Hieronymous Wiggenstaff's School of Heroism and Villainy was a "pleasant" place, certainly, but getting a fresh breath of air was one of Fitzroy's favorite pastimes.
As he exited the school building, he looked upon the monastery practically across the road. He wasn't sure how long it had been there- one day, it wasn't there, and the next, it was! It housed an odd group of students- almost similar to his own classmates, but certainly more odd and extreme. As the doors of the Officers Academy opened, allowing its many students to flood out, Fitzroy dared to wonder: What are those kids like?
Across the road, a red-haired young man stood, squinting into the sun.
How dare it be so sunny, so offensive to my eyes!
He stood proudly, hands on his hips. He turned his ire towards the school across the road.
What a foul institution! Playing both sides, creating unnecessary conflicts. It is a shame.
The next target of his overwhelming disapproval was, of course, the confused half-elf, also across the road. He's heard of him before, of course.
"Talented," they call him. But my abilities far surpass his!
Fitzroy caught the eye of a student across the street.
Hey, I think I've seen that kid before...
Ferdinand: "Fitzroy you're a big dummy. You can never compare to me. I am Ferdinand von Aegir"
Fitzroy: "How dare you!!!"
Almost as if on cue, Argonaut Keene and the great, lovely ????? notice the confrontation.
Argo: "Hey, loser. Don't be mean to my friend."
Fitzroy: *ready to perform tides of chaos on Ferdinand*
?????: *picks him up and carries him away* "Let us be going."
Fitzroy: "Put me down!"
????: "But we are going."
Ferdinand: "Run away you little baby! I am Ferdinand von Aegir!"
Snippers in the background: "I shall avenge you Fitzroy!"
After Firbolg and Argo leave Fitzroy to deal with his rage, Snippers waltzes over to him.
Snippers, in crab gurgling: "Ferdinand is the dum dum. Not you!"
Fitzroy: "He is! My tide of chaos would've shown him how weak he is. Thanks Snippers"
Fitzroy goes to meditate to ease his anger.
Snippers soliloquy:
"You are amazing Fitzroy. I will make sure that Ferdinand realizes what a loser he is."
Meanwhile at the Officers Academy
Ferdinand: "Haha. That dumb Fitzroy!" *sips tea*
Hubert: "Ferdinand. You're the only moron here."
Ferdinand is too happy to care.
Hubert leaves to deal with Edelgard and Dimitri's fight.
Ferdinand doesn't notice the strange crab lurking under the table taking notes on his every move.
After carefully taking notes on Ferdinand's tea drinking methods, Snippers roams the Officers Academy.
He sees an angry white-haired girl throwing popcorn at a blonde-haired boy, who wielded a box of crackers with pride. They've seemed to gather quite an audience. The black haired one is there frowning.
Hubert looks upon the two feuding students with concern. His lips form a rigid frown, until the white-haired woman manages to gain the advantage.
Snippers watches in blissful awe as the white haired girl uses all her strength to get up off the floor and with her fleeting energy throws a single piece of popcorn at the boy. The popcorn glides elegantly across the room. What beautiful projectile motion. It lands gracefully into the blonde boy's left eye. He screams and withers in pain. Red, the color of Snippers, gushes as the popcorn has chosen its new home.
Suddenly, Hubert's lips curl up, just at the very edge. A mischievous glimmer surfaces in his eye, as he dreams of bloodied violence.
The students rush to the screaming one's side and escort him to the nurse's office. Snippers, now drenched in koolaid, leaves. He's seen enough for today. He'll find the orange tea boy the next day.
The next morning Snippers returns to the Officers Academy just before school starts. In the kitchen he sees a man dressed in yellow with very red eyes. He's making breakfast but the students already have breakfast. He serves the food in the frying pan and says "After you all have breakfast, have some breakfast" He starts making more breakfast. Snippers is amazed at his madness. While he's cooking he's smoking some weird smelling cigarettes. He doesn't seem down on earth right now. He's high. After even more breakfast he showers.....and showers.....and showers. His glow increases with each shower.
Snippers is scarred.
Snippers continues wandering around and finds a purple haired girl studying a book about the Fódlan language. She keeps murmuring idioms to herself. Then a girl with brown hair and a hat walks up to her and says "Hey Petra. We're having a party to celebrate Edelgard's popcorn victory"
Snippers follows them to the party and takes note of their party habits.
After the party the girls go to Professor Blyeth's class.
And there in that very class is the disgusting orange haired tea man.
As the students walk out of class, Snippers follows Ferdinand until he's outside. Then he takes his chance and grabs his leg with his claw. Ferdinand screams in pain but the scream is nothing compared to Dimitri's.
"How dare you insult Fitz! He's not a dummy! He's smarter than you'll ever be. You can't even drink tea correctly"
As Snippers is giving this passionate speech all Ferdinand hears is gargling.
"That's where you've been, Snippers!" A familiar voice calls out to him from behind. He is cautiously scooped up, brought into a safe haven of rodent bones and blonde hair.
"Fitz, I found Snippers!" Rainer calls. Snippers sits in her lap contentedly, listening to the sudden pattering of boots in the dirt. Fitzroy and pals run over. He looks worried and like he was just crying. His eyes glisten as he looks upon his crustaceous friend.
"Oh Snippers, I missed you! I thought you unmanifested. I was so sad. I'm glad you're safe"
This happy reunion is interrupted by Ferdinand and Fitzroy making eye contact.
Fitzroy: "YOU STOLE MY CRAB"
Ferdinand: "I DID NOT. I AM FERDINAND VON AEGIR. HE TRIED TO STEAL ME"
*Fitzroy summons tide of chaos spell
*Ferdinand takes out blade
Literally every student from each school is surrounding them.
Hieronymous Wiggenstaff, suddenly: "What is this act of violence. Fitzroy you've endangered the life of this crab and for that you are hereby suspended for one month. You'll be taking classes at the Officers Academy for now"
Fitzroy: "NOOO. It was his fault!"
*aggressive finger pointing that Phoenix Wright himself would be proud of*
Ferdinand: "You incredulous dunce. It's your fault!"
Seteth, suddenly: "Ferdinand von Aegir your actions disgrace your fellow heirs and you will repent by taking a month-long suspension at the school of heroism and villainy"
Snippers is forced to spend more time at the Officers Academy. He sees Dimitri again. He's now wearing an eye patch. Rumors have it that the popcorn can't be removed and is forever embedded in his eye socket. Petra is still trying to figure out idioms. Hubert is just brooding and sometimes out of character crying.
Ferdinand's catchphrase at the new school actually makes sense since nobody knows him. He keeps drinking tea. The month is excruciatingly slow for the Firbolg and Argo. Ferdinand thinks the Fierbolg has recognized his superiority and sleeps on the floor so he can have both beds.
Snippers is experiencing life at the Officers Academy. He's happy.

Top 5 Best Modifications for Mazda Miata
The Mazda MX-5 Miata has undergone three full redesigns over a span of 30 years. Even so, the Miata has not changed much, spiritually, since its initial debut as the 1989 Chicago Auto Show. The nimble roadster remains a small, lightweight, and affordable rear-wheel-drive, two-seater sports car. Over its four generations, the MX-5 Miata has remained true to its roots and engaging open-air driving style making it one of the best-selling roadsters of all time.
The first-gen Miata (Model NA 1989-1997) boasted short direct shifts that made gear changing a breeze and signature rounded taillights. The second-gen Miata (Model NB 1998-2004) had a soft top with a glass rear window, new headlights that replaced the heavy pop-up ones, and increased engine power. The third-gen Miata (Model NC 2005-2014) introduced steering wheel controls for a more premium feel in addition to a retractable hardtop being offered for the first time.
The fourth-gen of the Miata (Model ND 2015-Present) took a sharp turn in its redesign while maintaining details like its signature rounded headlights to keep its heritage intact. The ND model had its curb rate reduced by 148 pounds or more. In 2017, Mazda released the MX-5 Miata RF which introduced a retractable fastback roof that boasted the same great driving dynamics as the traditional soft top.
The Mazda Miata is, arguably, one of the most fun vehicles to drive and a popular one to modify as well. The aftermarket offers an extensive range of options for the MX-5 to take it to the next level ranging from aesthetic parts to suspension components and performance systems. With so many choices out there, choosing between all of the products out there can be a daunting task. That is why we have compiled the list below, breaking down the top five best modifications for your roadster to improve its handling, performance, and appearance.
#1 Cold Air Intake
One of the most common places to start when modifying any car is with a cold air intake. Replacing the factory’s restrictive air intake with an upgraded system is one of the least expensive ways to experience some power gains. While CAI systems will not add nearly as much power as other engine mods on the market, they do deliver a number of advantages that are a great bang for the buck. These include an improvement in airflow, lower air temperatures, a boost in acceleration response, and better fuel economy. By letting your engine breathe better and suck in cooler air, you are simultaneously freeing up some power (varies by system).
The increase in airflow will allow your Miata to breathe more freely and, consequently, add more torque and horsepower. Power gains typically start in the midrange of the powerband and steadily move up across the power curve. Throttle response and increased acceleration are much improved and immediately felt after installing an air induction system. The less restrictive system along with its large-diameter inlet tube will have your Miata’s engine respond quicker to throttle inputs while delivering a nice “roar” under full-throttle acceleration. That being said, a cold air intake not only delivers performance benefits, but it also emits a satisfying throat growl to make your Miata sound more like a sports car. At steady cruising speeds, however, the sound remains more moderate and blends in with the usual road noise.
While it may seem like a minor modification, a cold air intake systems really make quite a difference when you calculate what you get for the value. It also enhances the look of your engine bay if you are a car show goer. Another advantage is that several cold air intakes out there can run up to 100,000 miles before requiring filter servicing. What’s more, most of the filters only need to be cleaned every once in a blue moon, depending on your driving habits. In short, there are really no downsides to upgrading your Miata’s intake system and it’s a great way to start once you get that mod bug in you.

#2 Exhaust System
After upgrading your Mazda MX-5’s intake system, a good step to follow is upgrading its exhaust system. Factory exhaust systems can be quite heavy, so replacing it with a lighter aftermarket system boasts obvious benefits such as more power and reduced weight that leads to a better power-to-weight ratio overall. Your Miata’s exhaust system is a crucial part that improves overall performance, increases fuel efficiency, keeps exhaust fumes at bay, and controls the level of noise both in and out of the car.
Let your Miata breathe and unleash some potential power in its engine with an aftermarket performance exhaust system. How? By improving your vehicle’s performance with fewer restrictions, you are simultaneously helping it discover new horsepower and torque gains as well as an attractive exhaust note that ties it all together. A quality exhaust system will make your Miata sound incredible, look the part, and act it too. To put it simply, a performance exhaust can free up some of the power in your MX-5’s engine by allowing the gases to escape more easily. As the exhaust flows better, the fuel and air exit the combustion chamber quicker, and new fuel and air can be burned to create additional power.
The aftermarket is options-galore when it comes to finding a new exhaust for your vehicle. Stainless vs. aluminized and axle-back vs. catback. An axle-back system works by replacing just the mufflers, while a catback system replaces your exhaust from the catalytic converters back, including the mufflers. You can also choose a header-back, which replaces all of the stock components for the most benefits. The choice is up to you and what you want from your car. There are also a plethora of individual components and bolt-ons on the market that include headers, gaskets, heat shields, mid-pipes, mufflers, Y-pipes, and more!

#3 Coilovers
The Mazda Miata is well known for being nimble and a joy to handle. Even so, there is always room for improvement in the handling department for an even better driving experience. That being said, the aftermarket houses a plethora of mods that come into play here, such as suspension upgrades. Installing coilovers on the Miata is popular among enthusiasts for several reasons. This is because coilovers offer the best bang for your buck when it comes to mods that make a difference. Coilovers allow for maximum flexibility when it comes to adjusting the height of your car, while also delivering a more controlled ride and more aggressive stance.
There are a number of options out there for coilover kits with sporty yet comfortable spring and damper traits that are great for both daily driving and more spirited driving too. When done right, coilovers not only improve your car’s appearance with a lower ride height, but they also lower its center of mass to handle better and corner flatter. While there are a number of affordable kits out there on the market, spending just a little bit more can get you better quality coilovers that deliver higher comfort levels.
Purchasing coilovers that are designed for street driving means you’ll get coilovers that boast better spring rates and valving too. If you are interested in taking your Miata to the track, you will probably want to invest in competition coilovers that offer more adjustability and slighter higher spring rates. Competition coilovers will show up to the track and treat you well, while also providing you with a comfortable ride on the street for daily driving.

#4 Sway Bars
The Mazda Miata is built to glide around corners with ease and speed. While the handling capabilities of the Miata are pretty impressive, upgrading some suspension components can take it to the next level. One of the simplest and most economical ways to noticeably improve the handling of your MX-5 is by upgrading your sway bar set. A new sway bar will reduce the body roll on your Miata without increasing ride harshness. At the same time, it will help to increase traction and improve weight transfer when maneuvering. Your ride quality will remain unchanged if both sides of the suspension are moving at the same speed. When cornering, however, your Miata will feel noticeably better especially at high speeds.
If your car is lowered, changing your front and rear sway bars are important to bring back optimal suspension geometry. Sway bars are normally designed as a front and rear matched set for your specific vehicle application. While you can certainly just change either the front or rear bars, it can upset the prior balance of your Miata. Virtually all Mazda vehicles have light to moderate understeer; this is to avoid oversteer, which many people are not experienced enough to take on safely. So, it is almost always better to upgrade to a Miata sway bar pair that has already been tested together as a matched set.
Let’s move a step back and discuss what sway bars are. Sway bars (or actually anti-sway bars) function to reduce body roll when turning and, thus, increase cornering performance. Their main purpose is to keep your Miata from swaying or leaning more to one side than the other. When your vehicle starts to lean, usually when turning, the sway bar applies force to the suspension on each side (upward on one and downward on the other) to resist the leaning and deliver more control. Installing larger-diameter sway bars on your Miata will increase the general stiffness of the ride – but not by much. For most, the improvement in steering crispness outweighs the minor increase in stiffness.

#5 Lightweight Flywheel
One of the most enjoyable aspects of driving a Miata is the ease with which you are able to race through the gearbox. If you are in the market to replace a worn-out clutch disc, it is the perfect time to consider upgrading to an aluminum flywheel. What is a flywheel? Well, a flywheel provides mass for rotational inertia to keep your Miata’s engine running. A lightweight flywheel reduces said mass and provides a number of benefits that make the considerable installation effort worthwhile.
While a new, lighter flywheel will not provide pure power gains, it will reduce the resistance during acceleration. This allows your engine’s RPMs to rise and fall much faster, thus improving gear selection and shifting speeds. As you move through the gears quicker, you are simultaneously cutting acceleration time. Furthermore, aluminum flywheels are much better at dissipating heat from your clutch, than an iron-cast or steel counterpart. This can greatly enhance your Miata’s clutch performance and longevity, whether it’s an OE-style clutch disc or performance disc.
Performance flywheels are typically lighter versions of the stock one, significantly reducing the inertia required to rotate the flywheel while also slightly lowering the weight of the vehicle itself. This allows the MX-5 engine to utilize its available power more efficiently by delivering an improvement in revving capabilities. In short, a lightweight flywheel will help your Miata regain the power that was being otherwise consumed by the heavier stock flywheel. When combined with the already impressive short-throw Miata transmission, a lightweight flywheel will have you seeking out the nearest twisty road to put it to action.

Katniss Everdeen Vs Tris Prior
Tumblr media
Katniss yanked her arrow out of a corpse with a sigh, sliding it back into her quiver. She walked to the broken window of the office building that she had found herself in, and looked to the deceit city street below. Though it felt like days ago, it was only a few hours since she had woken in the post-apocalyptic ask city. The few people she had met such as the corpse now behind her, had assaulted her on site leaving her rather shaken.
Tris walked down the highway. It was empty save for a few crashed cars. She was on edge, as she was attacked not too long ago. The divergent stretched, before looking around the city, her eyes stopping on a window. From this distance, it was barely visible, but Tris saw a face. Her hand instinctively went for the grip of her pistol.
The second the woman she was watching reached for something Katniss knew she couldn't take any chances. The Mockingjay nocked an arrow in her bow and fired it in only a second.
FIGHT!!!
Tris cocked her head back moments before the arrow would have hit her. She drew her pistol as the arrow harmless hit the ground, and fired at the window. Katniss ducked, the bullet shattering a coffee mug behind her. The mockingjay nocked another arrow, and swiftly crawled to the next window. She popped up to find Tris making a mad dash for the building. Katniss aimed her bow, and let go of the string, her arrow sailing through the air at the divergent who jumped aside, the arrow still grazing her cheek. Katniss nocked another arrow but had to duck again to avoid a few bullets. She noticed the fire escape and started formulating a plan.
Tris busted through the door of the building and noticed a corpse holding an assault rifle next to a stairwell. She ran over, taking the gun for herself, and swiftly ascended the stairs. As she reached the second floor, Katniss's head popped out from higher up in the stairwell and fired an arrow. Tris dodged, but the second the arrow hit the floor, it burst into violent flames. The divergent stumbled backward as she exists was engulfed in fire.
"Shit" she mouthed in a panic as she looked for another way out. Katniss almost glided down the fire escape before booking it to one of the trashed cars. Suddenly one of the windows shattered as Tris leaped out of it, rolling to her feet as she landed. Tris quickly spotted her foe, firing a few shots at Katniss who slide behind a car just in the nick of time. The divergent slowly approached, aiming her gun at the vehicle. Katniss quickly caught her breath. She knew this girl was trouble, especially with that gun. She couldn't afford to draw this out and had to end this now, even if it meant drawing attention. She knocked an explosive arrow. The Mockingjay stood up at the hood of the car, and let loose the arrow. Tris barely dodged and aimed at her opponent, but a giant explosion came from the burning building which collapsed behind her, knocking her to the ground, and sending her gun skidding across the road. She quickly shoved herself to her feet and ran at the mockingjay who had another arrow drawn. She fired at the divergent who dodged, and by the time she had nocked another, her opponent had reached her. Tris punched Katniss causing her to stumble backward, and fire the arrow at nothing. The mockingjay dropped her signature bow and drew a knife. Katniss thrust at Tris with an aggressive grunt, but the divergent stepped to the side, grabbed her foe's arm and with one swift movement snapped the bone in two. Katniss cried in pain as her knife clattered on the concrete. The divergent punched her foe again knocking her backward. Katniss managed to get her footing and threw a desperate punch at Tris who easily dodged, and maneuvered behind Katniss, putting her in a chokehold. The Mockingjay gagged, elbowing her opponent in the gunt, but there was a "crunch" as Tris snapped her neck. The divergent sighed letting her opponent's body drop to the ground before moving on
KO!!!
This one was surprisingly close. Katniss was a skilled foe. Her archery skills were almost superhuman, and her resourcefulness may give Tris some trouble, but her superior training and more efficient weaponry were enough to even the odds. Katniss may have had explosive arrows, but she was very hesitant to use them, in fact, she's far more hesitant to use lethal force compared to Tris overall. And the final nail in Katniss's coffin was her lack of close quarters fighting skills. As soon as she's forced to use her fist, Katniss is almost helpless. Tris, on the other hand, excels at hand to hand. She's been trained to fight like a dauntless, and even received special lessons from the leading Dauntless Four. With superior training, weaponry, skills, and brutality Tris takes the win. Katniss may have been the Mockingjay, but that's just target practice for Tris.
