New account - introduction.
Would love to meet new friends!
Hi, friends! New year, new motivation, so I decided to start a langblr/studyblr to keep myself accountable!
My name is Rahel and I really love linguistics.
I'm native German and learned English to a grade I would put near fluency through lots of TV shows and books.
I took French for 6 years in high school, but I really lack practice, so while I can read classic literature in French, I struggle to hold a conversation. My Italian is good enough to survive on vacation I suppose.
(Here's a random shelfie) I have been on and off studying Korean and Swedish for years now, but I really struggle with consistency, which is why I'm here I suppose. And also why I picked up Spanish. Spanish being so similar to Italian and French as really helped me to finally stick to studying without getting overwhelmed!
I would love to meet new people on here who love languages just as much as I do, no matter which ones you actually study! So drop a follow and I'll always follow back.

2022 summary + 2023 goals
The year’s ending, it’s time for a summary!
It was a pretty turbulent year for me personally. I graduated, got a job, quit the job, found another, moved out on my own, etc. But I still feel I made incredible progress despite all the hardships.
What I managed to do:
Took N1 and passed!
Finally took up my Swedish studies where I left off months ago. Revisited my grammar textbook to refresh some basics.
Watched quite a lot of crime drama in Swedish for immersion and listening. With subtitles in Swedish I was able to understand a decent chunk :)
Read about 35 books, mainly in Japanese. Compared to three years ago, my reading speed in Japanese has improved IMMENSELY. In December alone I was able to read four novels in two weeks.
Played about 100 hours worth of visual novels in Japanese.
Dived deep into the goldmine: シチュエーション CD dramas (if you have a favourite voice actor, these are just the sweetest treat!) and listened to a few dozen hours of those.
Studied the rules of Japanese pitch accent.
What I hope to do next year:
Continue improving my Swedish listening, since I still feel this skill of mine is severely lacking.
Research pitch accent in Swedish.
Write more in Japanese and Swedish.
Big challenge ahead: I’m planning to take up Italian! I studied it for a bit as a little kid, and a lot of passive understanding still remains in the back of my head. This time I’d like to properly study grammar to be able to formulate my own sentences.
I hope you all also had a productive time ✨
Happy New Year!
