ATTENTION COLLEGE/ UNIVERSITY STUDENTS TRYING TO MAKE AN EXTRA $100-$400+ A SEMESTER FOR MINIMAL EFFORT!!!

I’ve been meaning to make this post for a while but have been lazy and putting it off... so I’ll post it now. Last semester I received an email from a classmate. In the email, the person claimed to be an “Elite Notetaker” for studysoup.com and included a link to their notes for the week. Because I was curious, I clicked on their link and stumbled upon the easiest way to make money that I have ever found.

Studysoup is a platform through which you post notes/flashcards/studyguides, share them with your classmates, and get paid for them. Yeah. It’s literally that simple. Whether they’re typed notes or written notes, you can make up to about $400 each semester for uploading them. This isn’t a scam or something too good to be true. I’m lazy as hell, yet by doing the bare minimum (by Studysoup’s standards) I made about $200 last semester.

The above shot is of the first two steps of being a Studysoup Elite Notetaker (oh, when I said I did the bare minimum maybe I did a little more than that because this is the absolute bare minimum). Just by listing three courses (sadly you can only earn for three classes per semester) that you will be taking that term and completing Studysoup’s checklist (which consists of simple tasks like confirming your email and whatnot) you’ll start off with $50 already that you can cash out. 

After this, you get paid a certain amount each time you upload a study guide for an exam. It’s really only exam/ test study guides that you get paid for. You get paid for your notes based on the number of views and downloads they get (and you get paid a bonus for them at the end of the semester). After you upload your study guides (this has to be done three days before the test date that you confirm on Studysoup), you will get an email to schedule a conference call with a Studysoup representative. The rep. will then talk to you about what you did well or what you could improve on with your notes. Once the call has ended, the representative will approve for you to get paid and you can go ahead and cash out.

You have the option of getting paid through PayPal or a direct bank deposit. And the money usually appears within 24 hrs. after cashing out.

I’ve mentioned this before (along with put information on a page (Make Money) on my Tumblr) but if you write notes, you really should be uploading them to Oneclass! It’s super easy, I just scan them in the library right after class and upload them that night. I’ve already made my first $10 gift card and only half way through this term!  I decided to splurge and use my gift card towards some of the Japanese .5mm Pilot Frixion Knock pens. (eventually, I’ll have all the needlepoint ones as well, and the light/soft highlights). I’m so excited to get them Friday. I’m going to use this as my coffee shop study (Starbucks) or stationery treat-yo-self money. Finding resources in college can be really hard…

If you don’t know some who knows someone, it can feel like you can’t get anything done. As a first-generation, college student I had to figure out how to navigate college from SCRATCH and what I found is that apps and websites can be my personal assistant.

I’ve figured out how to create a budget, find fun things to do for ZERO dollars and also how to stay healthy and generally sane during college. I’ve been there and I know how hard it is to navigate your way around finding the best resources so I created a list of FREE and inexpensive resources that are complete lifesavers. Don’t worry I won’t mention the obvious ones like Google suite.

Advice for BROKE ASS STUDENTS

* Do NOT pay full price for text books. There is no reason to. Ebay, Slugbooks, and Bigwords are GREAT websites for used textbooks. Amazon also! I spent two hours looking for my textbooks online this semester, but paid $30 in total. Yeah. $30.

*Student discounts are EVERYWHERE. Student Beans, UNiDays, you name it. Don’t see it where you’re shopping? Ask.

*Retailmenot, thekrazycouponlady, and hip2save are money saving blogs you can’t afford not to read.

*Rev.com will pay you to be a freelance transcriptionist in your freetime.

*Flipp will give you all the advertisements for stores in your area.

*On campus housing is EXPENSIVE. Around $400 minimum for a shared closet with another person and a shower you need to wear shoes in. Look for alternate housing if you need to, it’s around you, and you CAN USE YOUR LOANS TO PAY FOR IT.

*Meals plans are rip offs. Seriously, major rip offs. When I sat down and calculated the price per meal at my university, it came out to $8 per meal. Just learn to cook basic things like stir fry, grilled cheese, and soup and your pocket book will thank you.

*Look for the Dollar Tree, or 99 cent store in your area. I can’t express how many times I’ve needed detergent and could only afford it there.

*SELL YOUR DAMN NOTES YOU SMART AMAZING PEOPLE. Studysoup and places like Coursehero will buy them.

*Kind reminder that your school includes a free gym membership, which means free showers.

*Food pantry's are all around, you just have to look.

*Also, refill your reusable water bottle. Hydrate and save!

Another advice: I’m in college and I’ve applied to probably 35 places over my college career. Be HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS of a job title with the words “brand ambassador” or “campus ambassador.” Those usually are a waste of time bc you have to achieve impossible goals to make the money they say you will make, and there are no guaranteed hours. The worst offender is StudySoup; never “work” there. Their whole website is a scam anyway.

This is an EXCELLENT warning. Job postings are full of fucking scams and I would feel terribly negligent if any of our adopted internet babies was taken in by such shitfuckery.

Also avoid job listings that are REALLY unclear about what the job responsibilities are, what the product they’re selling it, or that over-emphasize the “culture” or “benefits” over the actual work. Those are also scams.
