Putting my Roy x Jamie tinhat back on!
In my queer Roy post I mentioned his double life with his yoga besties and compared it with Colin’s situation (in the sense of “which other character is shown to hide aspects of himself? Oh, surprise, the gay one!”), but thinking about it further I realised that essentially Jamie was leading a double life in season 1 as well.
Jamie was pretending to be someone he deep down was not to please his father. We saw the hints of the “real” Jamie mainly in his interactions with Keeley. He always was soft and sweet and fun with her. Even after their breakup he was open and vulnerable. No hint of him trying to hide his real self behind some mean and bitchy persona.
And then I noticed a big difference between Roy, Colin and Jamie: Colin and Jamie are true to themselves and don’t hide aspects of themselves when they’re around their intimate partners—Roy on the other hand is like two different people when he is around his yoga besties vs. when he is around Keeley (and Phoebe). He is softer with Keeley, yes, but … he is still keeping his insecurities from her, doesn’t like her to see him soft and vulnerable, even though she should be the person closest to him. And he obviously is keeping things from his yoga besties as well (who for sure are convinced he’s their gay mascot, you can’t convince me otherwise.) He seems repressed to a degree where he is never fully himself with anyone.
When I saw this gif set I also realised how this is the only time I can recall that Roy wears something that is not black-ish (aside from the Richmond kit, but that is not something he decides to wear)—interestingly it is a subdued orange; who else is wearing orange in this scene? (And who was wearing orange in Amsterdam? In the pride flag orange symbolizes healing, btw.)
The only colorful things Roy ever wears are his socks, that he can easily hide in his shoes. (Edit: The socks he wears in the scene mentioned above? Same colors as the pansexual pride flag.🤡)
I don’t know yet where specifically I’m going with this—maybe it just illustrates another way Roy x Keeley never truly worked, maybe I’m actually onto something with my queer Roy agenda, but the thought was nagging me, so I wanted to share it with you lol.
Anyway, if we get queer Roy we’ll likely know by tomorrow or at least get some less subtle hints.
(I’m so excited, like, not a shred of me believes they could still be going for Roy x Keeley endgame🤡, so I’m here with my clown makeup muttering to myself “Tomorrow we’ll find out whether they go Jamie x Keeley or Jamie x Roy (x Keeley, on the horizon)” and I’m not ready)

happy new year Ego!!! Just wanted to let you know that I absolutely adore your twst fanart and the tags are just an absolute pleasure to read! You are my greatest inspiration for my personal twst art and I just wanted to thank you for your wonderful masterpieces <333 if possible, may I ask what are some of your headcanons for the diasomnia family? If not for diasomnia then any other characters are fine as well!
thank you, and happy new year! 💚💜💚 that is amazing to hear; it's always a little bewildering but super flattering that other people like my silly little doodles so much!
I don't think I really have any really solid headcanons and also canon keeps validating me left and right (FLUFFY DOMESTIC DIAFAM IS REAL). mostly just kind of...impressions and general thoughts, if that makes sense! lately though I've been kind of obsessed with thinking about Lilia's hair, and specifically when/why he ended up cutting it. (l-look, we're bouncing around the timeline and I gotta make decisions about these things when I draw, it's relevant) (I mean I would probably be weirdly fixated on this anyway, but.)
I think I've settled on the idea that he kept it long until he went to NRC, partly because 1) I like drawing The Ponytail, and 2) I think he thought of NRC as a chance to reinvent himself a bit! he gets to go and be a wacky carefree teenager for a few years and have fun! (officially he's there to keep an eye on Son #1, but how much trouble could he get into, really.) so he gave himself a Cool Teen Haircut to go with his fresh new Cool Teen Persona!
also maybe he had some reflection on his hair's troubled past with three kids...
...and had to weigh his vanity versus the fact that he was going off to be around hundreds of kids on a daily basis, and. the choice suddenly seemed obvious.

The cutest reminder ever that the way family works in TSAMS canon is that two parties have to be in mutual agreement that they are family. If one party doesn't agree then they aren't family. Parties can revoke familial ties whenever they want and that means they are no longer family.
"Code Relation" theory is stupid because you're then implying that Eclipse is Sun and Moon's child. Which he isn't. Or that Killcode is somehow Moon's child and his brother at the same time that he's Eclipse, Lunar and Bloodmoon's "father" at the same time that they're Sun and Moon's grand children. Like, we're seeing the issue here, right?
Don't make things more complicated than it has to be. Just accept the fact that family is literally determined by a verbal agreement between two animatronics and nothing else because none of them were born from wombs. That means respecting canon when characters in canon decide that they aren't comfortable being family (like Eclipse) or just straight-up disown everyone (like Bloodmoon). It's okay to have headcanons, but don't try to push them onto canon.

Yeah I dunno, I just kind of disliked the pacing of this entire episode. It missed the mark for me at every step.
Maybe its just because I've spent so much time with the two chapters being adapted, but there's just some weight that is missing in almost every scene. The lingering dread and the dark humor and the hope that things will be okay. The hugging too tightly to someone you can't hold on to. The refusal to engage directly with the truth.
The educational bone assembly minigame isn't just for a goof its about how bodies are delicate and incredibly specific in what they do and how they do it. The awe of it. The arduous task of rebuilding that in every detail.

Phantom stared at the monitor with baited breath. He had been alerted by the computers beeping and came to see what was going on.
Could this really be happening? After all this time alone in his lair, waiting, hoping for any sign that his last remaining friend was still out there, his ecto-signature finally showed up on his radar.
This had to be a trap.
But...what if it wasn't? What if Robin was really there? What if he was hurt and waiting for Phantom to come rescue him? The thought made his stomach drop. He knew what his birdy had gone through when he was still alive and he would rather feed himself to a pool of ghost piranhas than let Robin believe for a second that he had been abandoned again.
Grabbing the essentials and shoving them into a bag he rushed out of his lair. It had been years since he had seen his birdy and even longer since he had been in Amity Park or any other variation of the Living Realms. But this was for his best friend. For him he would do anything.
...
Which apparently included fighting his besties adoptive dad in the streets while he was in a full Gothic fursuit-Robin what the heck- Robin himself wasn't helping, he was just cheering Phantom on from the sidelines and giving him tips.
Phantom managed to get away from the bat and his other birds- how many did he have???- and had an emotional reunion with his best friend which included a lot of tears, mostly from him.
Okay, entirely from him. He was worried out of his mind for his birdy, sue him. Robin was mostly confused, saying he didn't remember disappearing, only that he felt more and more strange before he just...blanked. The next this he knew he was standing over this prone figure of a guy with a leather jacket and a full faced red helmet. Batman looked at him odd and Robin didn't hesitate to mock the man he once viewed as a father.
They fought for a bit with the younger vigilante using all the powers Phantom taught him along with his furry training to beat up the man who abandoned him to the mercy of one of his rogues.
Speaking of which. The very next thing Jason did was find the Joker and do everything the deranged clown did to him. Karma. It was on one of his later confrontations that Phantom appeared. Now the darker dynamic duo are running around Gotham being ghostly and more or less doing whatever they want.
Bruce was spiraling mentally. His second son lay in the batcaves infirmary stuck on life support because somehow, some way, his soul was knocked out of his body.
They needed to find some way to put it back in before that other teen "took him home" and Bruce really hoped that didn't mean what he thinks it means.
