Tennis fever hits Starcom

Last Thursday saw the 3rd Annual Starcom Tennis Tournament take place in David Lloyd Riverview. But this was no ordinary tennis tournament. As it coincided with the 4th of July, we decided to go all out, get our stars and stripes on and embrace an American theme. And boy did we embrace it! Forget Murray-mania; this was more John  McEnroe, the Williams sisters and Pete Sampras.

And it wasn’t just Starcom that embraced our inner American. Suppliers across every medium came along and got involved! In fact, it was our most diverse tournament yet, with teams entered from TV, Radio, Digital, Press, Cinema and Outdoor.

Irish Times were reigning champions, having won the previous two tournaments, so the pressure was on to see if they could retain the title for a third year. The teams battled it out on the court for over 4 hours, with teams from 98FM & Spin, RTE, UTV and Starcom giving them a run for their money. However, it was Mediabrokers who met Irish Times in the final, and it was a hard fought battle between two great teams. After a tense 25 minute dual on court, newcomers Sylvain Corre and Ronan Turner from Mediabrokers who came out on top, and took the trophy home for 2013!

It could be a sign of the times as another digital supplier, Google, took home the Plate, with Philip Coyle and Mark Thakwell fighting off stiff competition from a radio hybrid team from Today FM and IRS.

The sun shone, the Pimms flowed and it’s safe to say that all of us in Starcom had a brilliant day. But it wouldn’t have been anything without the input from each of the suppliers that came along, played, cheered and kept us entertained all day.  Thanks so much for making it another great event - this one is for you guys!
