Dean watched the boy—because let’s be real, nothing about the scrawny weasel in front of him could be described as a man—gulp slightly and turn to the head of the table where Mr Heyward-Di Laurentis sat with a charming and inquisitive smile on his face.

He glared at his father in response for even humouring the matter.

He had come back from practice thinking it would be a normal Thursday Family dinner where they would laugh and catch up with one another over everything that had happened in the last week. They were a busy family and tended to get quite wrapped up in their own lives, not often getting chances like this to just sit down and enjoy each other’s company.

So you could imagine his displeasure when he walked through the door and saw some random redhead sitting next to Summer with a hand around the back of her seat and that fuckboy glimmer in his eyes—trust Dean, a fuckboy himself, to notice it. He didn’t like that look being anywhere near his little sister.

However, instead of his parents being equally as suspicious on this Joshua and his intentions, they seemed charmed by whatever wicked spell he put on them. His parents seemed pleased to know more about this boy in his sister’s life.

“Well, I’m currently captain of the school basketball team. We are a varsity team—”

“Junior varsity.” Dean corrected and found some pleasure in the way the redhead’s face fell.

“Well, yes. But we are the top of our league and—”

“Of the junior varsity league?” Dean questioned innocently, but his words were snappy.

“Dean, let him speak.” Summer hissed across the table.

“I don’t enjoy the sound of his voice,” Dean shrugged absentmindedly. “Ruins my appetite.”

“That’s a lie.” Summer scoffed.

Joshua’s eyes darted between the two siblings before he muttered some half-ass response and scattered out of the penthouse. However, Deans simply scoffed and carried on with his meal as though nothing had happened.

“He didn’t even thank us for the meal, how inconsiderate.”

“Are you trying to ruin my life?” Summer screeched, looking at Dean with an utterly pissed look on her face. “I liked him! A lot! And you’ve just scared him off!”

“Trust me, guys like him don’t do relationships. I’ve helped you out.” Dean told her.

“No, you’re just controlling my life!” She huffed before storming out the room and heading towards her room.

Dean’s eyes softened and he moved to stand up but his mother’s hand stopped him.

“Let her blow off some steam, dear.” She told him with a warm smile and Dean nodded, though the guilt did bubble in his stomach. Not for what he did, but how he did it.

However, he was right. Monday came around and Joshua had another girl on his arm, but Dean was there for his little sister when she needed a shoulder to cry on and not once did he say ‘I told you so’.

At least not at first.
