Don't forget that many medications cause photo sensitivity!

You should always ask your Dr. or check with the pharmacy (chemist) to find out of anything you're taking could cause photosensitivity for your skin.

There's a pretty wide variety of common medications, both prescription and over the counter, that increase the risk of sun damage to your skin, so don't think it's just a hand full of uncommon meds. We're talking antibiotics, some psychiatric meds, topicals like Retinol, diabetic meds, pain killers, etc. It's a LOT.

(Don't just rely on lists you find online. They are not exhaustive by any means)

I knew someone who nearly lost half their nose from skin cancer, and the surgeon was actually surprised that the cancerous cells went much deeper into the skin than they had initially thought. We're talking like 1 CM more and they would have had to remove the entire right side nostril. It was a very close thing, but they did get it all.

This was a person who spent a lot of time outdoors, hiking, camping, swimming, playing frisbee golf etc (total butch lesbian) and wasn't diligent about wearing skin protection. That absolutely changed once they had skin cancer.

Hello everybody with summer fast approaching here is your regular reminder that:

Everyone needs to wear sunscreen

SPF 50 is pretty much the best protection you can get, an SPF higher than that will have the same effect

Melanin does not protect you from skin cancer

Tanning is caused by exposure to ultraviolet radiation

Spending the majority of your life receiving regular large doses of UV radiation without any skin protection is a good way to get skin cancer

Don't use tanning beds, and don't go sun tanning

Wear your fucking sunscreen
