Change your brain to stop reaching for ableist language to describe your world
D*mb, st*pid, cr*zy, ins*ne, and many many more ableist words and phrases still dot our daily conversation landscape. This Disability Pride Month, show you’re listening by doing the work to use language that doesn’t perpetuate ableist culture.
This is a non-exhaustive curated list of terms and suggestions for replacing them in your vocabulary, as well as accompanying notes.

tbh while I as a black simmer can appreciate you calling Mack out for the racist she is, it does feel like you’re doing it to keep the heat off of yourself by association? Reading your dm interactions, you gave her a lot of grace about her voting choice. you comforted her, actually. it wasn’t until another Simblr became public about Texas’ harassment that you started to turn the heat up on Mack. i remember seeing an anon ask, asking you why you hadn’t denounced her. you went on a spiel about voting choice and giving people chances to changed…this was less than two years ago. so why should the community trust you knowing that you were privately comforting a racist and only publicly condemned them when people sought your take? trust me I despise Sunny as much as anyone since she bullied me and my black summer friends out of dollhouse when she was running it. her own mods kicked her out because of this. but I also don’t believe in free passes for people trying to save face ie. YOU.
Anon, I definitely understand your perspective and why you feel that way. I've been transparent since the start about how I feel about Mack, I've never followed or publicly supported her. But I have said multiple times that I try to give people chances to change because I'm surrounded by people that have made similar choices and I, personally, would be miserable if I didn't have hope people could change. I grew up with half of my family openly calling me the N-word and not only being openly racist but homophobic towards me and others (I am mixed and the white part of my family tried to keep me away from my disabled black father and family when I was younger, for context). I've been a subject of this type of abuse since I was young. Some of these same people have changed and regretted their past actions, and some have not. In my workplace, many of my coworkers and patients have similar views. I would like to cut all of this out of my life, but I can't. I don't have the means financially or mentally to do that. And so I cope by trying to believe that they can change. If I didn't, I don't know how I would be able to manage. It's for the sake of my own mental health. In this online space, however, there is the option to cut people out, and while I lead with giving people a chance... if they show there's no actual change, then I have no choice but to accept that and take that opportunity off the table. As we see with Mack.
As far as taking the heat off of myself or trying to save face- no one would have even known how I talked to her had I not said it previously (in posts before this one) or linked the DMs myself. I really have nothing to hide, I've always been open about that perspective. I sympathized with her in my initial short DM conversation with her (out of a total of two) and shared my own trauma of being attacked by Trump's cult of personality. Being in that environment when you're surrounded by them and their abuse is terrifying. I personally experienced family members constantly threatening me to vote for Trump (and I mean threatening my housing, access to medications, standing at school and work, destroying or stealing my possessions, etc), mocking me daily for being "a stupid liberal" (and far worse insults), and even trying to steal and manipulate my mail-in ballot. It is extremely easy to be trapped, intimidated, and manipulated by those people. When Mack shared her story, I wanted to believe that she'd been subject to this and that she either didn't really have those views to start with or had changed. That was projection and naivity on my part. Admittedly, it also didn't register with me during that initial DM convo that she had voted for him twice, she didn't mention it specifically in that conversation and it was before I had gotten a chance to see all receipts in detail (she DM'd me immediately once I asked publicly for proof of her racism and we had that convo). If you check the DMs, I even mentioned to her in that same convo how my family members had voted for him twice even after seeing what he'd done after the first time and how terrible and hurtful that was for me, and that I was glad people like her had changed their opinions after voting once and seeing what he'd done after instead. Why would I say that if I knew she'd done the same thing as them? She, of course, didn't correct me and say she'd voted twice, but why would she? So at the time of the convo, that was how I was seeing it. But as we can see, I was very wrong.
Past that point, the more that I uncovered about Mack (the harassment, voting twice, and perspectives from her friends and other simmers in my inbox), the more I saw it was only the tip of the iceberg. I kept taking note of so I could make another post publicly. I answered an anon saying that this was the case, which I believe is the one you saw. That ask was after the short DM conversation in which I initially sympathized with her. Keep in mind this was all taking place in under 3 weeks time (including the paywall-gate explosion and my own personal life). And yet within those 3 or so weeks, so much evidence was adding up, along with many asks i was saving in my inbox to put in the post- meanwhile I wasn't interacting with Mack other than our 2nd DM convo in which I told her to stop the harassment of Dreamie and others. I gave Mack her last opportunity to show that she had good intentions in this community and towards those in it by denouncing her former views and the actions of Texas. She didn't take advantage of this. I knew that the Texas situation was going to be a huge hurdle and drain on my mental health (and her harassment of others was on-going without any sign of stopping), so I tackled that first. I was still compiling everything else, and the last post on my page with her past actions and all the links are evidence of that. Keep in mind: just because you didn't see what I was writing or taking note of, doesn't mean that I wasn't. Just because I didn't make a huge call-out post right then didn't mean I approved of her, followed her, interacted with her, or was her friend. As as much as I like to speak my mind here, doing all this does take time and mental energy.
All this aside, it's only an explanation, not an excuse. If you don't feel comfortable with how I've handled the situation, I completely understand. I've told people, including Mack, many times- that she's not entitled to a second chance or to forgiveness, and to expect she won't receive it from everyone. I want to emphasize that while I personally may give someone a chance, doesn't mean that they necessarily deserve a chance. Especially not from anyone else that they've hurt. It's not the job of black simmers like us (or anyone else marginalized) to keep forgiving and giving opportunities. It's not a human right, and it's not any morally better than not giving a second chance. The perspective of not allowing second chances is 100% valid. And if me doing so makes anyone lose trust in me, I understand that completely. As much as I try my best to be logical and hard, sometimes I'm soft-hearted and sometimes I'm naive, and I'm biased due to my own trauma and experiences. As we all are. No one needs to take my word as truth or trustworthy if they don't feel comfortable doing so. I'm not a paragon of justice and truth any more than Mack is- I'm simply sharing my own opinions and perspectives.
(I know this is long, but I hope it addresses everything nonny, and doesn't have mistakes, I wrote it on my lunch break lol)

NDIS Services in Fawkner and Hume
NDIS services Fawkner provide individuals with disabilities with support to increase their independence, access new skills and live the life they want. Physio Inq OT provides a range of NDIS services including assistive technology, home modifications and capacity building assessments.
Despite its great potential, the NDIS is plagued with issues. Its neoliberal ideology has led to privatization of disability care and services.
Moreland
Moreland’s vibrant open spaces offer many accessible activities and experiences. The AJ Simpson Park in Fawkner, for example, boasts scenic walking trails and accessible picnic areas. Similarly, Edgars Creek Reserve in Hume offers wheelchair-accessible pathways and nature play spaces.
Two centuries of farming and then urban development have greatly changed Moreland’s natural landscape. Stands of highly significant original (remnant) vegetation are scattered and fragmented; traditional land management practices have ceased and exotic weeds have emerged; native fauna has been dislocated and is often now only found in captivity; and creek corridors have had their habitats modified.
Wetlands are important for biodiversity and community health and well-being. The City has many wetlands including the ephemeral floodplain at Coburg Lake, the Merri-Edgars Creek confluence, Jones Park and Hosken Reserve as well as the Herbert Street Living Stream in Oak Park.
The protection of large trees is essential for their habitat value and for a number of wildlife species, particularly birds and mammals. These animals require hollows for nesting and shelter. The City is establishing a register of the most significant trees within Moreland’s planning scheme on public and private property to facilitate their protection.
Hume
Hume residents with disabilities can access a variety of local services and supports from our community-based organisations. These include speech pathology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, positive behaviour support and habit coaching. These practitioners work as part of your team to ensure a holistic approach to achieving the outcomes that matter most to you.
The Northern Learning Hub is an exciting new place for adults with disability to learn and grow, delivering a weekly program that includes two days based at Yooralla’s Broadmeadows Community Hub digital learning space and one day of community access across the Hume region.
The Northern Learning Hub is supported by Hume City Council’s commitment to ensuring that all residents are given every opportunity to participate and have their voices heard. This is evident in the inclusion of a Disability Action Plan into Council Plan, which will highlight priority areas for practical implementation, with progress and achievements recorded through annual reports and Council Plan Quarterly Reporting.
Coburg
Our team of NDIS support coordinators work with you to reach your goals and plan for the future. They can help you find disability services that are tailored to your needs and budget. They can also assist you with monitoring your NDIS funding and outgoings.
Physio Inq OT provides a range of Occupational Therapy services including assessments, home modifications, and improvements to daily living. Their therapists specialise in working with people with sensory, social, behavioural, and motor issues.
Fawkner Shopping Centre is located on Station Street in the Moreland section of the suburb, while Merrifield Plaza is situated 4km away (Hume). Both offer accessible shops, supermarkets, cafes, and banks with wide aisles and wheelchair-friendly access. Various community services are also available at the City of Moreland Fawkner Customer Service Centre on Station Street.
West Footscray
We've heard from you that the NDIS is not providing enough support to protect you and your rights. We’ve also heard that your housing and living supports aren’t being planned, funded or governed as a connected ecosystem and that you can't exercise choice and control over your living arrangements. Too much time is being spent on fighting over who should pay for what, and not enough on making the whole ecosystem work.
Physio Inq OT is here to help you with your NDIS plans through a wide range of supports including assistive technology, home modifications and improved daily living assessments. You can get in touch with us on phone or by webchat, which are available 8am – 8pm Monday to Friday.
Located just 14km north of Melbourne CBD, Fawkner is split into the City of Moreland and City of Hume local government areas. With a range of accessible services and community spaces across both areas, you'll be able to enjoy the vibrant opportunities for engagement right in your neighbourhood.

22 October 2023
I'm sick with grief I'm sick with longing I'm sick with wanting. someone come put me down please. im longing and wanting vague concepts and I don't have a focus for my energy and I want to curl away and rot rot rot alone and unloved and dejected.
maybe the reason I put myself in positions of caretaking is so someone will need me. even if I don't want that, the desire to be needed and wanted is so profound that maybe I put myself in worse conditions just so I don't have to confront my people pleasing and how to have/keep friends bcs there's just so many relational problems that I have that I feel unfixable but I KNOW that's not true and I KNOW everyone is a little bit weird relationally it just hurts so so bad when you keep being shot down and how do you not take that personally. it's like oh lol you like me bcs im fun to drink with, I'm not too much of a hassle for a disabled person, ill essentially repent via actions or purchases when I think I've done a misdeed so the scales are somehow balanced again. but aside from that, my life consists of perpetual nightmares of my own creation and I therefore cannot see the value in being friends with me or what I bring to the table in a friendship aside from the things I bring as a coping tool so I feel like I have value (cleaning, doing favors). sometimes I can bring good conversations, but it's hard when I'm with different communication styles that want to talk about life, but not in a deep way or not about my life, or interests I don't share, bcs I'm just stuck. I don't know how to talk suddenly and I've got nothing to add. and you can't say a relationship isn't transactional. it is ! it is about what you're bringing and what you have to offer, on what other basis would this be? if you don't like me because you don't think I add value to your life because of my negativity and life struggles, why would you want to be friends with me? I try to cultivate the moments of peace and kindness and love and feeling good but it must be said that my life is not easy and all I can give are those moments. Sometimes those moments aren't enough, because the pain seeps through and the reality slithers in and I'm confronted and stuck again. It sucks because it's so scary and hard for me, and I know how scary and hard it is for everyone else to see someone suffer like this and not know what to do except keep your distance so your life doesn't also go up in flames. Or maybe I'm really just not that important and it's not a big deal.
I feel like I spend all of my time working on my mental health, working on my physical health, trying to keep going and making it to something that feels kind of good or stable. or like for the last two years, just fucking staying alive after a life-changing diagnoses and symptomatic presentations. I guess that doesn't leave much room for actual joy when you're running yourself dry with your "HAVE TOs" and get to spend considerably less time on things that add quality and fulfillment to my life. I guess I'm just not crazy in a fun way. Maybe I got boring somewhere along the way. Maybe people don't want to spend the time to unravel and discover me bcs we want bite-sized consumable info. Maybe my fears and self doubts are major blocks in building or maintaining friendships. Maybe I'm supposed to be getting more support with my physical and mental health, but I don't know where from and I don't know how. It was really nice having my dad do basic tasks that I was dreading, that lifted a lot of weight off of me and it's a lot to constantly care for everything on a daily basis alone.
I'm often so stuck in trying to talk about the present in conversations as well, where there's nothing much happening, and I don't let myself dig into my past anymore too much because it's a whole can of worms that sometimes I don't know if they're acceptable or not. At this point I guess I'd rather placate someone with mediocre conversation, or correct myself anytime I fall into "too weird" territory, than to go into my past and talk about things I have enjoyed because they're often quite blurry and bring a lot of baggage with them as well. Like Ophelia and Barbies were very important when I was 16, but I guess not a lot of people want to hear about that and it's not a time I remember very clearly either.
And being more stable is really helpful in having more stable friendships, or making new friendships since you can show that you have interests and a life. I miss having a routine and goals and something to focus my energy into instead of letting my mind wander and body decay. But I got here in the first place because I wasn't well enough to continue. Even if university was exhilarating and felt good, it also felt really fucking bad not being able to do it well, struggling so much, and having my physical and mental health fail me. Like I'm trying to rebuild from that but I'm really not sure how. Again, here I oscillate between "you're taking this too seriously, everyone struggles really hard with university and you should be able to push through" and "you deserve better accomodations, you deserve to not feel perpetually uncomfortable by how many classes you have to take because you cannot pass them all but you need student status. yes actually, your mental and physical health is different from that of others and is understandably debilitating, even if others can't see it".
and I just sit there with those and go "okay so what the fuck can I do?" and I realize what I have to do is put myself out there in lower-stakes work and build up gradually to maybe being able to do it again. I'm so scared of not finishing my degree bcs it means less money, it means less employment opportunities, it means confronting my most deeply rooted fear of becoming homeless and I shouldn't even have a game plan for that. That shouldn't even be something I have to reassure myself about. But it is, because it's this terror so deeply seated in me that it dictates so much of my life. Don't get tattoos, you'll lower your chances at getting a job -> you'll end up homeless AND it will be your fault since your self expression makes you unemployable. Don't do too many body modifications, justify the ones you have made regarding your gender, it's not really okay that you can't fit into the mold but it seems like that's the life you've chosen so now lie in it. Make up for it in other aspects of your life. Don't make your body or your life yours, you have to be a polished cog so you can easily obtain work and not end up in a bad situation, which for some reason feels more like a prophecy than a fear. My mom pointing out a homeless man to me when I was 3-5 because I was laughing at him and telling me "that could be us. so easily, that could be us" or my childhood best friend telling me I'd "die under a bridge of a drug overdose" bcs I didn't staunchly say I'd never do drugs. I guess those things do stay with you.
My dad dedicating himself to work for his entire life so he wouldn't be in a bad position either obviously sticks with me a lot too. Him saying "people would rather buy from someone with traditional pronouns than they/them" while I was visiting recently and just trying to process all of that and every bit of self he's given up to be a tool for the machine, the mindset and ideology one has to form to explain that to themselves. Of course the only thoughts and knowledge I have about work come from the person who raised me and had pretty radical views on employment. And I feel guilty for not being able to carry that on. For having the audacity to be disabled, to be queer, to be unemployable by some standards. It was unbelievably crushing not being able to accept that job offer for the lawyer's office because I was having to medicate heavily to get through the day and I'd collapse after it, and it feels like such a privileged position to be able to refuse employment because I go through something that every other employed person also goes through. I just really really have to listen to my boundaries and limits or my body will hospitalize me, and rather quickly at that. If it doesn't hospitalize me, I'll lose my job from being out on too many sick days from having symptoms and having to recover, getting sick extremely easily and getting sick bcs of stress. I was also supposed to be a cog and it's stupid, but it hurts that I can't be the perfect employee.

The NDIS has also announced a new Taskforce to investigate fraud and other issues. This taskforce will use data analytics to identify and co-ordinate action against fraudulent providers. It will also create a digital assurance and prevention model that could be used by other government agencies. This initiative will strengthen the NDIA’s strategic intelligence capability and increase payment integrity across the whole of the NDIS.

Household Tasks and the NDIS
Household tasks can become challenging for people with disabilities of all types. This is why the NDIS includes household support services in its list of disability support options.
These services include cleaning, cooking, laundry, and shopping assistance for your daily needs. Read on to learn more about NDIS household support and how you can benefit from it.
Cleaning
Tumblr media
If your home is messy and you’re struggling to keep up, a clear household tasks ndis chore list could be the answer. Start by creating a master list, and then divide it into daily, weekly and monthly tasks for each member of your household (or roommates).
Misla says it’s important to reevaluate the responsibilities that you share with a partner or roommate on a regular basis to see how they might change over time. For example, does mopping the floor really need to be done daily, or could it work on a weekly or monthly schedule?
Finally, when it comes to cleaning, make sure to include tasks that can be accomplished in a reasonable amount of time. This will reduce the likelihood that someone feels rushed or stressed out while doing a task, leading to frustration and potentially arguments.
Cooking
Cooking is a household task that requires time to plan, shop for ingredients and prep before cooking. When it’s your turn to prepare dinner, be sure to account for all of the tasks involved so that you’re not stealing your partner’s time with one-off chores you’ve forgotten to add to your list (like running out to get a forgotten ingredient or chopping vegetables).
A clear master list helps each member of a household understand their full domestic workload and encourages them to take action to improve the balance. This can include candid conversations with your partner or roommate, as well as a thorough reevaluation of the tasks that matter most in your home. When everyone is doing their part, the home will run more smoothly and you can focus on the things that matter most to you.
Laundry
Laundry is a household task that includes washing, drying, folding and ironing clothes. This can help keep clothing fresh and clean, which is essential for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Moreover, this service can also help keep the living space clean and organised.
Household tasks are vital for the well-being of individuals, but they can be challenging for people with disabilities. This is especially true if the disability affects their mobility, cognitive abilities or communication skills. As such, it is important to ensure that your NDIS plan includes support with household tasks.
As a registered NDIS provider, State Wide Community Services can provide assistance with a variety of household tasks. Our team is committed to helping our participants maintain their independence and live the life they deserve.
Shopping
Depending on the type of disability, people with disabilities find it challenging to engage in household tasks and perform activities around the house. This includes everyday chores like cleaning and cooking.
Despite this, it’s important to divide household chores fairly between all members of the family or living arrangement. This helps reduce tension and can improve overall quality of life.
A disability support provider, such as State Wide Community Services, can offer assistance with household tasks. This includes meal preparation, cleaning, shopping, laundry, and basic home modifications. This allows participants to spend more time pursuing their passions and achieving personal goals. It also helps reduce stress for primary caregivers, giving them a sense of relief and fulfilment. The program can also offer a variety of other benefits.
Gardening
NDIS garden maintenance is an outdoor activity that involves the cultivation of plants. It may be a specialized activity, with just one type of plant being grown, or it could be more of a farming activity, growing many different types of plants. It is a hobby that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, and it can be done alone or with others.
Gardening is an excellent way to relax and enjoy the fresh air, the sun's rays, and the sense of accomplishment that comes with eating homegrown potatoes or corn. It is also a great way to connect with nature, and it is becoming increasingly popular as the pace of modern life accelerates and more people are seeking self-sufficiency.

NDIS Home Modification Providers
NDIS home modifications help participants live safer and more independently at home. This can have a positive impact on their health and wellbeing, relationships and quality of life.
Tumblr media
NDIS home modification providers funding is available for minor and complex home modifications. Major modifications typically involve more costly, higher risk works that must be carried out by a licensed builder or project manager.
SCAADA
SCAADA is a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) home modification provider available throughout Victoria. They provide cost-effective modification solutions for NDIS participants that allow them to live independently and safely in their own homes.
A SCADA system receives data about industrial processes, equipment and systems that can be used to monitor and control those processes in real-time. This can be done in a range of ways, including automating processes and maintaining efficiency over time.
It combines hardware and software to create a computer-based automation system that supervisors use to control and optimize industrial processes. It includes supervisory computers, human machine interface (HMI) software, communication infrastructure and programmable logic controllers.
The HMI software enables supervisors to understand and, when necessary, modify the status of SCADA-controlled processes. It can present data in a variety of formats, including tabular and graphical presentations against mapping or image backgrounds. It also allows supervisors to dispatch commands to RTUs or PLCs for action on the status of industrial processes.
Farmer Constructions
A major part of the NDIS experience is making your home more accessible and livable for you and your family. This can be as simple as installing a grab rail or as complex as building a fully integrated bathroom suite. It all starts with a good idea, some research and a lot of hard work from you and your NDIS provider. The key to a successful outcome is trust.
Farmer Constructions is a ndis accredited builder that has the skill set and expertise to handle a big job, with a keen eye for detail. They have a great track record of delivering home modifications on budget and on time. They also offer a variety of services beyond the usual plumbing, electrical and carpentry. You can even hire their experts for a one-off project assessment. They also have the latest augmented reality technology and an impressive database of references.
Their name-brand home modification products and services can be found in a range of locations throughout the state including Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Indigo
Indigo is a registered provider of home modification services to people with disability, through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) or Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP). These services can include assistive technology, rehabilitation, recreation and other assistance in your home.
They also offer allied health services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech pathology. These specialised services help you to achieve your goals and live more independently.
A person can be eligible for an NDIS plan if they meet eligibility criteria, and have a disabling condition that affects their daily living and requires reasonable and necessary support. These supports are designed to empower you to be more independent and participate in social activities, employment and other life roles.
Indigo children and adults are precocious truth-tellers, able to see through illusions and deception in others. They have a strong desire to change the world for the better. They are often drawn to careers in arts, politics or other fields that allow them to bring about a more equitable society and environment for everyone.
Mode
Home modifications in ndis are a big part of the NDIS experience, helping participants gain the independence they need. These include ramps, wheelchair lifts, step-wedges, and grab-rails to help people move around the home safely and effectively.
The ndis home modification guidelines market is a competitive one, with providers offering everything from simple bathroom and kitchen upgrades to complex building works. Mode is one such provider that combines design, build, and construction to create purposeful and comfortable spaces.
The Mode software platform helps data teams and business users alike deliver highimpact ad hoc analysis and self-service reporting in record time. It unites SQL, R, and data viz into one central hub to empower everyone with the tools they need to drive business outcomes.

Want to Help People in Distress? Consider a Career in Counselling!
Tumblr media
If you’re thinking of becoming a counsellor, but just don’t have a clue on how to go about it, then fear not! You are at the right place.
Being a practising counsellor myself, I have been through the same stage where I was interested in the thought of a career in counselling, but wasn’t sure if it was meant for me or not.
I was very passionate about helping people and encouraging them to find paths to make positive changes in their lives. With time I realised that this is something that aligns with my expectations from life. I then took a decision of pursuing it further as my career, and I am happy to say that I am continuously growing in this field.
That’s why today I want to help you find a similar clarity too.
To start off, here are a few questions that may help you understand if you are heading in the right direction or not:
Do you enjoy helping people?
Do you want to have a positive impact on people’s lives?
Do you enjoy spending time with people and helping them talk about their feelings?
If you answered ‘yes’ to all three questions, then counselling may just be your true calling. However, there is a lot to consider before you take that plunge.
Who is a Counsellor?
A counsellor is someone who helps people in need by providing them with support when they experience emotional difficulties and guides people on personal, career, lifestyle, and relationship issues.
A counsellor:
Works with individuals and groups to improve their mental health and well-being.
Helps clients define goals, plan actions and gain insights.
Develops pathways to the goal with different alternatives.
Acts as a facilitator to reach goals.
Takes care of holistic (mind and body) health.
Different Types of Counsellors
A counsellor supports and guides clients with issues, which can arise in any sphere of their lives. As a result, a counsellor can don many hats and work in many different domains. Here are the 4 most common types of counsellors.
1. School Counsellor
School counsellors work at the school level (usually as an in-house counsellor) and help students to deal with social, behavioural, personal and academic problems that arise at this crucial stage of their lives.
2. Rehabilitation Counsellor
Rehabilitation counsellors help people deal with the personal, social, and vocational effects of disabilities. They help people with both physical and emotional disabilities caused by birth defects, illness or disease, accidents, and other causes.
3. Mental Health Counsellor
Mental health counsellors address and treat mental and emotional disorders. They use therapeutic techniques to deal with issues such as depression, anxiety, addiction, suicidal impulses, stress, trauma, low self-esteem, grief, etc.
4. Career Counsellor
Career counsellors (like me) help high school students, college students and working professionals to find direction in their career and resolve career-related issues. They help people to know and understand themselves to make career, educational, and life decisions.
How to Become a Counsellor in India
Now that you are clearer on what counselling actually is, let’s get to the main point: how do you become one?
Step 1: Opt for any Stream with Psychology in Class 12th
You can hail from any stream in class 12th, however, you should keep Psychology in your list of subjects (not mandatory). ThePCB streammay also give you some advantage when dealing with the physiological and neurological aspects of Psychology.
Step 2: Pursue B.A/B.Sc in Psychology or Applied Psychology for 3 years
The next step in your journey is to take up Psychology for your undergraduation.
Knowledge of areas like general psychology, abnormal psychology, counselling psychology, personality psychology and statistics is useful for a career in counselling. You should also aim to do as many internships in the domain of counselling to get hands-on experience while witnessing the daily job roles of a counsellor.
It will additionally demonstrate dedication to the profession and potentially put you in contact with professionals who can help you in gaining skills.
Some leading colleges to pursue B.A /B.Sc. in Psychology/Applied psychology in India:
Delhi University, New Delhi
Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi
Ambedkar University, New Delhi
Panjab University, Chandigarh
Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi
Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh
Fergusson College, Pune
Christ University, Bangalore
Step 3: Pursue M.A/M.Sc in Counselling Psychology/Psychology/Applied Psychology for 2 years
To gain the practical knowledge of your field, and to specialise in counselling, you’ll need a master’s degree. You will study about counselling theories, social and cultural diversity issues in counselling, career development and counselling, research methods and much more. You’ll also complete internships and dissertation work to meet the criteria to receive the degree.
Admission to the various colleges will be through entrance exams or your marks in graduation along with the interview. Many institutes let you take up psychology for your master’s even if you have not studied it at the undergraduate level.
Some leading colleges to pursue M.A / M.Sc. in Psychology/Counselling Psychology in India:
Delhi University, New Delhi
Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai
Ambedkar University, New Delhi
Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi
Christ University, Bengaluru
Ashoka University, Sonepat
Panjab University, Chandigarh
Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi
Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh
Fergusson College, Pune
4. Pursue a PG Diploma in Guidance and Counselling for 1 year (Optional Step)
An additional step you can take to actually double down on your counselling skills is to do a 1-year diploma in guidance and counselling. Numerous institutes offer this course, to help you hone your counselling skills and gain practical knowledge and certification in counselling.
Such diploma courses are particularly relevant for people who do not hold a master’s in psychology, yet want to build their career in counselling. Try to ensure that the course you pursue is recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).
A few institutes offering PG Diploma in Guidance and Counselling include:
Delhi University, Delhi
Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi
National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi
National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development, New Delhi
CVM Institute of Human Resource Development, Gujarat
Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak
SGT University, Gurgaon
Note –We are discussing the most recommended path to become a counsellor. You may choose not to go this way. For example, many people alternatively pursue a Master’s in Social Work to enter the field of counselling (esp. by following it up with a PG diploma in counselling).
However, at least one degree in Psychology is highly recommended, since it helps you understand the intricacies of the human mind, and enables you to better face the challenges of the field.
How to Become a  Career Counsellor in India
Career counselling is something other than simply settling on a major and what work you need to get after one graduates. Since career keeps developing over one’s lifetime, career counselling too is a multi-step, deep-rooted process, helping people make career and life choices.
The objective of career counselling is not just to enable one to settle on the choices they have to make presently, but to give them the information and abilities to settle on future career and life choices as well.
To start practising as a career counsellor, you’ll need to follow the same pathway as I mentioned above, and get as much practical exposure to career counselling as possible, through relevant internships. Additionally, you can get certification courses in career counselling to enhance your skills, such as the International Certified Career Coach (ICCC) programby Mindler and Career Development Alliance (CDA).
Scope of Counselling in India
Gone are those days when people used to approach their elders for guidance in each and every phase of life. Due to changes in our lifestyle, society and families, individuals are increasingly facing the need to get guidance and support at different phases in their lives. As a result, the scope of counselling in India is also increasing exponentially.
After completing your post-graduation, a few of the areas you can work in include:
Schools, colleges, and other educational institutes
Psychological counselling centres
Marriage and relationship counselling agencies
Organisations and workplaces
Summing Up
In addition to the basic degree requirements, you’ll also need to possess certain personal qualities such as empathy, interpersonal skills, patience, resilience, good listening and communication skills, and above all, immense passion to do good for others.
So if you have decided that you want to build your career in this field, step forward and be the person people can turn to in times of trouble. All the best!
Need career counselling after 10th then connect with Mindler.

The NDIS Support Service
Tumblr media
If you are eligible for an NDIS plan, you can take advantage of a NDIS support service. The service can help you find resources and connect with other agencies that can help you meet your needs. The service is based on your needs, is selectable, and flexible. It provides information, education, and support.
NDIS supports people with a psychosocial disability
If you have a psychosocial disability, you may be eligible for a NDIS plan. This plan can provide assistance with daily activities and can help you become more independent. It can also help you gain better social and economic participation. You can choose to get help with some areas of your life, such as communication, education, or mobility.
The NDIS funds supports such as recovery coaching to help people improve their health and wellbeing and regain control of their life. These supports are not intended to treat the underlying mental health problem, but rather improve the ability of the person to function and engage in their community. However, the NDIS cannot fund diagnostic mental health supports, which are provided by other systems.
If you have a psychosocial disability, it is important to get a formal diagnosis from your GP. They can refer you to specialist supports if necessary. In addition, a Local Area Coordinator can help you apply for the NDIS.
It is based on individual needs
The NDIS supports individuals by assessing their individual needs and tailoring support to them. The NDIA also focuses on the psychosocial impact of the disability, rather than just the physical limitations. This means that if you are suffering from multiple conditions, the NDIS is still likely to be able to support you. To access the NDIS, you will need to apply for the program.
The NDIS is an initiative for people with disabilities living in Australia. It is an ambitious new approach to individualised disability support based on social insurance. The NDIS is funded through general taxation and an income levy. The program is based on individual needs and aims to give Australians with disabilities entitlement to social services. This paper reviews the literature about the NDIS and describes an action research project that uses data from participants to understand the benefits and drawbacks of individualised disability support. The data reveals a basic gap between what people know about the NDIS and what is needed to get it right.
One example is an NDIS participant who was incarcerated for a crime. These people may have a disability and may have been unable to access services because of their crime. Having their disability funded under the NDIS allows them to access additional support after their release. The NDIS also provides support for people who have disabilities and are in the custody system. They can access this support for life if they meet the criteria.
It is flexible
The NDIS support service is flexible, allowing participants to make the most of their NDIS plan, while also maintaining consistency. It is designed to help participants understand and implement funded supports, and to link participants with other services. Originally, the NDIS support service was only available to participants who received funds through the NDIS, but the changes have meant that it is now available to participants of all income levels.
The NDIS supports people with a disability to live in appropriate housing, participate in community and social activities, and maintain a job. It also provides training and assistance for further education, and supports the transition from school to employment. The NDIS does not fund memberships to gyms or other leisure facilities.
It is provided by selectability
Selectability is a not-for-profit mental wellbeing service providing recovery oriented support to people in northern, central and western queensland. The organisation's service area stretches from Cairns to Mackay, including Charters Towers, Palm Island, Ingham, Mt Isa and Bowen. Recently, the service has expanded to include Proserpine and Collinsville. Their services are tailored to meet the individual needs of their participants and are based on their needs and goals.
The NDIS support service in Melbourne an inclusive, person-centred approach to service delivery. This approach is aimed at supporting individuals with disabilities to participate actively in decisions about their care and supports. Workers should engage directly with the person affected by decisions about services and supports and involve them in decisions. By involving people in decision-making processes, they can ensure that people are engaged and heard.

Support inclusive humanitarian action in Afghanistan
The 260 men and women on our Afghan team are working hard to provide support to people with disabilities or injuries, internally displaced people, and those facing situations of extreme hardship.

Plagued by decades of conflict, Afghanistan is now considered one of the world's most contaminated countries, with explosive remnants of war and landmines a constant threat to civilians. Humanitarian needs are immense.
In a country where 80 percent of adults live with disability, and more than 2.5 million adults experience a severe disability that significantly impacts their daily activities and interactions, the rehabilitation services our teams provide play a vital role in helping people maintain their independence.
Your gift in solidarity with the people of Afghanistan can make a critical impact.
You can contact:[email protected] help the Needy Now.
$50 can provide mine risk education for 10 people
$150 can provide 15 rehabilitation sessions
$500 can provide two artificial limbs
For 34 years, Humanity & Inclusion has provided inclusive humanitarian action and rehabilitation support in Afghanistan, while growing in community with the people we serve.
In 1996, we built the only rehabilitation center in the southern part of the country. Today, the center in Kandahar, which also includes a prosthetics and orthotics workshop, sees close to 300 patients each week. Some travel hours on end—more than 300 miles—to receive care.
In isolated areas without full-service health facilities, our mobile teams provide at-home rehabilitation services, as well as psychosocial support. They teach local people, especially children, how to spot, avoid, and report the weapons littering their school yards and fields. All of this while battling the effects of Covid-19. Last year, with the help of our donors, life-changing resources directly impacted the lives of more than 160,000 people across the country.

a group effort
Back in school, I really hated group projects. I hated that my success was dependent on anyone else. Inevitably, I’d be teamed up with a bunch of slackers that I knew weren’t going to put in the work and it was infuriating. That annoyance is what drove me to just do the whole project by myself to guarantee that I’d get a good grade.
The health of this fandom is a lot like a group project, but no single person can do all of the work for everyone. It’s going to take a village.
I was relieved to see so many people speak out against racism in fanfiction and the fandom after Hannah refused to take accountability for the choices she made and the impact they had.
But the work doesn’t stop there.
Before I get into this, I want to acknowledge my privilege. I am a white, straight, cisgendered, non-disabled woman. I am, by absolutely no means, an authority on this topic. But I’ve heard it said that it is a privilege to learn about racism and not live it. And we can’t keep expecting Black people to educate us when there are so many resources out there already at our disposal. So, let’s learn together.
If we’re serious about moving forward as a community, then we need to be more than our words. We must be our actions.
All of that being said, I put together a list of resources and activities that have helped me in my journey towards anti-racism. If there is anything that you feel like should be added to this list, send me a note. If you need to check me on anything in this post, do it. I’m always looking for new ways to learn and be supportive. We’re all works in progress and I’m not an exception to that.
Supporting the Fandom
Thanks to patient and gracious friends, I have a greater understanding of how difficult it is for Black writers to exist in this predominantly white space and gain traction with their stories. They also shared how hurtful it was for people to only support Black writers when it’s trendy.
We have to be more intentional and consistent in our support of Black writers - myself included.
Not only because their stories are brilliantly told and worth reading, but we stand to learn more about their perspective of the world through them. It’s a fun and entertaining way we can learn, grow, and be supportive.
Allow me to shamelessly plug my friends and encourage you to read the works of @allaboardthereadingrailroad, @whiskey-cokenfanfic, @tropicalcap, and @avintagekiss24. I’m still working through all of their master lists, but everything I’ve read so far is straight up gold.
Now that I’ve done that, let me say that I know I need to expand past my group of friends. We all do. Here are some other writers that I’ve heard good things about and whose work I look forward to reading more of: @venusbarnes, @writeturnlove, @sapphirescrolls, @getinmelanin011, @tastingmellow
For a more exhaustive list of Black and POC writers, you can find what @thefanficfaerie has assembled over on this link.
Turn Social Media into Your Classroom
My nana likes to say that she learns something new every day as a gift to herself. The easiest way for me to do that, to make sure this movement is something I’m investing in daily, was to follow educational and activist accounts on Instagram since we all know that I’m on there regularly. Here are some of my favorites.
Brittany Packnett Cunningham (@mspackyetti): A superstar. A gift. Brittany is an accomplished civic activist and leader and is dedicating her life to be an instrument of change. Her social commentary is always timely and informative and she’s great about promoting calls to action.
Rachel Cargle (@rachel.cargle): Rachel demonstrates ways we can fight racism and uplift the Black community in our regular, daily lives. She is direct, unapologetic in her approach, and checks my privilege regularly. I’m thankful for her.
Layla F. Saad (@laylafsaad): Layla is on a sabbatical right now to spend time writing, but I highly encourage you to go back through older posts. She’s done a few interviews and speaks on dismantling racism frequently. She also wrote a book (that I just bought and can’t wait to read) called “Me and White Supremacy.”
Emmanuel Acho (@emmanuelacho): A retired football player and current sports analyst, Emmanuel is adding “activist” to his resume. I absolutely live for his “Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man” series where he’s had candid discussions with guests like Matthew McConaughey and Chip + Joanna Gaines. They’re short and so accessible and filled with grace.
The Conscious Kid (@theconsciouskid): While I don’t have kids myself, I’m an aunt and a godmother. This account, while addressing racial issues that affect everyone, also highlights how we can work with kids. If you’re a parent or someone interacts with children regularly, you might like this!

There’s so much we can do to further communities across the world to make them inclusive and accepting and loving. This post is hardly exhaustive. Find what works for you, but find something. My late congressman, John Lewis, would call it “good trouble.”
Do not become complacent in your place in this movement. There will always be more work to be done, more progress to be had.

gurrrrrrl i love your dhar mann posts. ive seen some youtubers call him out for cringe but you are the only one who calls out his racism. if you watch his videos you usually see black kids being portrayed as bullies to the white ones or asains being portrayed as smart. not to mention the portrayal of women - their eithr housewives-esque women submissive to their husbands or 'bitchy' sluts that act spoiled, and are usually punished for not liking the boy...it just reads like a terrible incel fanfiction
Hello, anon! Thank you for sending this in. ^.^
There are definitely more people who do call out his racism in those videos, and they did this before I called him out on it, so I'm not the only one. (Did you mean on here or in general?)
Being a white woman, I will never know what BIPOC or AAPI go through on a daily basis. What they go through in general is horrible and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. That doesn't stop me from educating myself about what they go through, reading up on their histories, sharing things about BIPOC and AAPI historical figures and their impacts on the world, supporting BIPOC and AAPI creators, speaking out against racism, signing petitions, sharing resources with people who may need them, and calling out racism in general.
His videos with disabled people are pretty ableist too, which is what really infuriated me, as a disabled woman who works with disabled people for a living. The video he made about Autism Spectrum Disorder especially was so insulting, filled with misinformation, and so ableist, that it felt like he was treating being autistic like it was a bad thing. It's not a bad thing to be autistic. I'm autistic. I was diagnosed when I was sixteen (when it was still referred to as A$p3rg3r'$ $yndr0m3), but never was open about it until this year. That kind of rhetoric was one of the factors that made me mask for seven years.
A lot of times, he doesn't cast a physically disabled actor for physically disabled characters. He just gives a couple of the child actors crutches. This is a reoccurring thing in the entertainment industry as a whole. Glee is another example of an able-bodied actor being cast as a physically disabled character. (I hate that show for a plethora of reasons. The fact they didn't bother to cast a physically disabled actor for the role of a physically disabled character is one of them.) I very rarely see physically disabled actors in media. Specifically, younger physically disabled actors. That needs to change. At least for live-action media. I'm sure the physically disabled kids would be happy to see actors who are like them. I've seen a lot of physically disabled characters in cartoons, which is great! I encourage them to make more physically disabled characters in cartoons. I don't see too many in anime either, so hopefully that'll change too.
The way Dhar Mann portrays BIPOC and AAPI in general makes me sick looking at it. He either paints black people as total damsels in distress or makes them big bullies. When Karen, the racist and ableist soccer mom™️ is being racist towards her son's friend and assuming the worst of him, it turns out that kid has rich parents! (Totally unrealistic too.) She goes on the whole, "I'm sorry for judging you before I got to know you!" shit instead of saying, "Hey, I'm sorry for being a racist bigot towards you and believing in gross stereotypes about black people."
Painting black people as "thugs" who all are in gangs and steal stuff is so incorrect. I'm sure that people who think like this get their pseudo education from watching movies with black people in them or rap music and get the impression that they're all like that. Like, no. Don't believe everything you see on the big screen. Not to mention how they targeted a black kid as a suspect for drugs in a video, when the real suspect turned out to be a white kid. They do that in real life A LOT. It's nauseating.
Selling drugs and stuff isn't an inherently bad thing. Not ideal, but some people don't exactly have any other choice except to sell drugs. Doing drugs doesn't mean you're a bad person. That kind of stuff hits home for me. Being brought up by parents who both did drugs, being around people who do drugs, and having friends who do drugs, I don't see people who do drugs as inherently bad people. They need to be treated with decency and like human beings, not like aggressive animals.
The whole "Asians are geniuses" stereotype is damaging. It's bad enough that Asians as a whole have all these ridiculous expectations put on them. Pretty gross and harmful stereotypes! Saying that all Asians are geniuses isn't a compliment to them. Yes, you can praise their work all you want, but don't treat them like they're attractions at a zoo. They're not robots. They're real human beings with their own thoughts, opinions, feelings, emotions, families, friends, jobs, issues, etc.
A YouTuber named Jarvis Johnson is an example of a person calling out Dhar Mann's racism in his videos. If you want to see them through a black person's perspective, definitely check Jarvis out. He's a great content creator and he definitely deserves more subscribers.
Oh my god, don't even get me started on the "sugar daddy" videos. There are so many of them, I don't know where to begin with tearing them apart. They're so BAD. Dhar Mann paints almost all of his so-called "morals" at the end of his videos with "Don't judge a book by its cover! uwu" instead of actually addressing the real issues in the video. He never bothers to address how people think money can buy you happiness. I mean, it can, to an extent, but only so much.
He recently made a video about a gay teenage boy in sports, his coach was being all homophobic, kicked him off the team, etc. First off, if that happened in real life, that school AND the coach would get sued for discrimination and the coach would most likely lose their job.
The fatphobia in some of his videos is fucking gross too, speaking as a bigger woman. One of the child actors was literally put in a fat suit in a "flashback". I mean, they do have fat actors. They have fat child actors too. Wouldn't it make sense to hire fat actors for fat characters? He's done that for another video he made about a girl getting bullied for her weight. (Fat suits are fatphobic.)
I feel bad for all the actors in those videos. I'm sure none of them vibe with the scripts. I hope they actually get roles in better things.

Welcome to the Springtide Festival!
A Note: This is not an event and does not count as event participation towards ranking up. This is merely a collection of fun, lighthearted activities and starter ideas that will persist throughout the duration of the festival.
Spring has arrived, and with it the colours and aromas of recently bloomed flora, the excitement the people of Spirale share during the change of season, and best of all... city-wide celebrations! Never a group to waste the opportunity for a good festival, the citizens of Spirale have set up a number of fun activities to last until April 6th at 11:59:59PM EST. You’re encouraged to use any or all of these ideas in your threads until then!
FIBONACCI WARD
[DANCE PARTY PUN] Venues have opened up on Levels 3 and 4 with the sole purpose being to host dance parties! The buildings can hold a large amount of people at once and a variety of snack foods and drinks are served for cheap for when you’re not busy dancing. No musical genre goes unappreciated here, and if you stick around long enough, odds are you’ll hear music from your home world being played too!
FLARE-AL ARRANGEMENT Lining the entire edge of the canyon are fireworks launchers, loaded every morning to prepare for a fireworks show every night once the sun goes down. The display can be seen from just about anywhere in the ward thanks to just how many fireworks there are! The show is different each night so it doesn’t get too repetitive, but there will always be fireworks that explode into flowery shapes. How many flowers can you recognize?
COTES WARD
HORTICULTURESCOPES Courtesy of the Fibonacci Institute for Science, Technology, Magic and Energy, interactive bio-domes have been placed in several parks throughout the ward, with a friendly lab coat wearing representative to assist you. Each dome has a kiosk with a platform to stand on, which will scan your body and match it to a plant that best fits you! The kiosk will then plant a seed of it in a clay pot for you to take home—instructions on how to care for it are included! Rumour has it that if two people stand on the platform together, something different may bloom...!
SPRING INTO ACTION If action movies are your thing, then you’re in luck! A local cinema has set up a large movie screen in one of the parks near Little Tokyo and will be hosting movie nights every Saturday and Sunday starting at sundown, showing one to three action movies every night, including fan favourites like The Germinator, Plant-Man, and Maws.
GOLDEN WARD
PETAL TO THE MEDAL A large, outdoor go-kart structure has sprung up in the Boardwalk amusement park. It features multiple layers of tracks and a daily leaderboard to see who can set the fastest lap time. Races are held constantly as long as the boardwalk is open, and first place winners receive a gold painted, flower shaped medal and a bouquet of real flowers to take home.
WITH FLYING COLOURS On Golden Wards beach, kites of all shapes, sizes, and colours have taken to the skies! Flying a kite was already a popular beach-goer activity, but it’s even more encouraged now as you are given a choice of kites to borrow if you don’t already have one! Plenty are themed after a variety of flowers, others are small forest critters, and a few that seem to just be patches of fabric hastily sewn together... which kite speaks to you?
ARCHIMEDES WARD
SCRAMBLED EGGS A classic easter egg hunt! Colourful, plastic eggs have been hidden around the ward by volunteering organizations and businesses. Inside the eggs you can find all sorts of small things, like jewelry, flowers, gift cards, live frogs, and more! How did the live frogs get in the eggs, you ask? Eggcelent question.
THAT’S A LATTE FLOWERS One of the cafes is hosting latte art competitions every day! Specifically, latte art of flowers. Roses are all well and good, but who can make the best latte art of a spider lily? A bleeding heart? Is it you? Maybe! If it is you, you’ll be the lucky winner of a daily free coffee for the next month and get a photo of your latte art featured on the wall of the cafe!
THE INTRASPACE
FIBONACCI INSTITUTE FOR SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, MAGIC AND ENERGY’S LAZERZ OF LEGEND Everyone in the city is invited to partake in what the Institute promises as "a lazer tag battle like you've never seen before!" Upon logging in to the Intraverse and entering the Lazer Tag portal, you will be randomly assigned to one of four teams: purple, green, red, or blue. You will receive a lazer gun and be outfitted with an irremovable lazer tag vest. The arena is the size of a ward and rearranges itself every night at midnight, but team scores will persist until the end of the Springtide Festival. The winning team will be granted with bragging rights... and a badge on each members Intraverse Profile. Abilities and other weapons will be disabled while in the arena, and cheating will result in being kicked from the game. Pew pew.
BABIE TOWN LIFE A limited time Intraspace game that allows you to design a chibi, animal avatar for your character and run your own town. Time in Babie Town Life matches time in the real world, so make sure to come out now and again! You can visit other peoples’ towns or create your own, just keep in mind any attempted violence will have you expelled from the game!
THE MISTWOOD
TERRES-TREE-AL SUPPORT The planet could always use more trees! A safe passage has been made into the Mistwood, leading to an area called the Traveler’s Garden. Volunteers there will give you a small tree sapling when you arrive for you to plant and help grow the forest. Where you plant yours is up to you, just try to remember so you can come see how your tree is doing in 20 years!
