#support your creators

Your favorite writers have stopped updating, not returned from hiatus, or simply deactivated altogether, because they get no support.

If you're one of the people who goes to X writer's inbox and says "I know I don't reblog from you-" lemme just stop you right there.

We have lives. We have duties, things to do, responsibilities, because a big chunk of us are adults. It's okay that you have other things, that you're not always available, that you might be going through something and can't always read or reblog everything. Writers get that.

But no writer wants to see you tell them "Hey, I know I don't reblog from you!"

They know. They're in a slump for a reason. The reason isn't you not reblogging or supporting them, the reason is hardly anyone doing it.

And if you go to them and wave the "hey!! I don't reblog from you even though it's all you ask in return for your free work!" card, chances are, the writer will be upset. They can't very well point out how tactless you're being, because then they might just be cancelled or called out for being rude to you when you are deliberately being tone-deaf to their situation as well.

Like you, writers have lives outside. Writers have jobs, or are searching for them; they have worries, duties, things going on, worries, etc.

The difference is they sit for hours upon hours to write, while it would only take you between a second and a minute to reblog.

Reblogging is absolutely not difficult. Fast reblogging is incredibly quick and practical, but "slow" reblogging isn't slow either. You don't even have to add a comment to the reblog, an empty reblog is just as appreciated.

Supporting your writers is literally not difficult, and if you as a reader and as a consumer aren't going to do it, then it's totally fine if you choose not to. Your life, your blog, your choice.

But don't go at a writer to remind them "Hey I know I'm among the people who doesn't support you but I still like what you write" and expect them to be overwhelmed with joy without feeling the slightest tinge of resentment.

Likes do nothing!!!

If you're in the position to support a writer, do it. It's not hard.

What do you do if you think someone’s plagiarized your work. Like this is too similar to be a coincidence and if I’m wrong, totally get it but what? I didn't add the parts but some examples:

Feeling a bit emotional so I feel like this needs to be put out there.

Writers who put content out for you all to read, we get nothing from that. We aren’t paid like influencers are, we do it because we enjoy it. The support you give, fuels the writers in ways you can’t imagine. Sometimes, we can sit behind the screens anxiously waiting to see what you guys think of the latest work we published. Sometimes we can be having a terrible day and one message saying how you enjoyed the work can truly make a bad day into a good day. This goes for the artists and video editors as well <33

HERE'S WHY

When you reblog with the community tag or suggest a community tag you're basically reporting the post to tumblr which then locks the adult content onto the post that has 2 major consequences.

1) the post is taken off the regular tags chosen by the author and

2) every single reblog will stop being visible on the user's page. The person that rebloged will see their own reblog but a person visiting the blog won't.

So basically what is does is that it wipes the post from the site.

It means countless hours of work go unnoticed and there's nothing more creatively draining that to feel your work and efforts were worthless.

We get the point of the tags but they are just so harmful for us. Instead please carefully read the tags most (if not all) authors mark their nsfw works, mention minors to not interact and also tag their fics very precisely to ensure everyone is kept safe while browsing the site.

Please please please don't censor us.

Fanfic Writer Wednesday

Yoohoo! Anybody home? I've been trying to reach you about your need for more fanfic in your life. It’s me. Charlie. C’mon. Open up...

Okay, well, lemme just leave this note here on your door. I have a piece of tape. It won’t mar the finish, I promise.

Last week I got myself caught up on this wonderful story, Blinded by the Fog, by @peyton-warren​ . It’s threatening to break my heart a little, but we’ll see where it goes. This week I want to remind you there is more to be had. Her masterlist has a few different characters available, from both Chris Evans and Henry Cavill (three-way of your dreams) as well as a little SPN (oh hey! I used to go there, too) and Stranger Things for good measure.

Personally, I love the Stick Handling series, which is less about hockey (like I originally thought) and more about spending your time with several men of your dreams. If you’re into that sort of thing. 

And then there’s this Walter thing I adore (Arresting and Arrested) and another (The Hidden Sun) I need to put my eyeballs on, because Walter is having a bit of a renaissance lately (can’t imagine why) and so I should check that out. You should too!

And look, some of the characters may not be your thing. But I challenge you to step outside of your comfort zone and try something new. You literally never know until you try. And how do you try? You click a link. You read a story. You like a story. You rate a story (give some feedback). You share a story (reblog, baby, reblog!) It’s what makes this Tumblr world go ‘round. It helps if you do your part.

It really is a struggle sometimes to create things. It can take anywhere from a few minutes to years for someone to write a fic, make a gif, draw a picture. It takes seconds to reblog something you enjoyed. If you've already liked the post, why not reblog it?

How to interact with creators

If you enjoy something then REBLOG it. Seriously, share the crap out of it. It doesn't 'fit' your blog aesthetic? That's fine, set up a side blog to reblog stuff. If you don't pass it around for others to see then a tiny part of the creator dies.

2. Leave a comment. This can be a long in depth analysis of the thing. This can be a keyboard smash. This can be a gif. This can be half a sentence because you 'just can't even'. This encourages your creators to create more. It's like giving them the creative version of Red Bull.

3. If you want more, maybe a part 2 or 3, then please don't ask directly for it. Your creator has poured their love and time and attention into this beautiful thing that they have shared with you. It may have taken them many hours, days, weeks, months. They have held up this thing for you and you've looked at it and immediately demanded more. That's not gonna get anyone what they want. Instead, try 'OH MY GOSH I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!! Do you plan on another part?' You're letting your creator know they did good, that you enjoyed it and are hoping for more but not demanding it.

4. If you want to be tagged in a series then please reblog the parts you've consumed before you ask. If something draws you in and you are eager not to miss the next bit then please REBLOG IT! The creators know if you've shared their work, trust me, we take a lot of notice of who reblogs our work. If you come to us wanting to be tagged in a series of work and you haven't reblogged what's already there then it kinda feels a little rude. Now, I know that is probably not your intention, but if it's good enough for you to not want to miss a part then surely it's good enough to share, right?

That's it, really. That is all you need to keep your creators creating. Appreciate your gif creators, your artists, your writers and REBLOG THEIR STUFF!

A like is lovely but it's like taking the thing and putting it in a drawer where you forget about it. Reblogs are like passing around something really cool, or group watching something.
