Somebody truly had the nerve to say Roman has never had to deal with or wrestle with injuries/set backs in his career and that he "could never power through like C*dy did with his torn pec". DEADLINE: Lessons from the fall. You just listed several unscripted series that aired then. CBS’ didn’t have scripted originals at your disposal but made strategic moves by adding NCIS: Sydney as well as Yellowstone and SEAL Team repeats that largely paid off. What did you learn from their performance and did the idea to do more NCIS with Origins come out of the success of Sydney on the schedule?

REISENBACH: I’ll just start with NCIS: Origins. No, that was in development prior to that. And Sydney had obviously been in the works for quite a while.

I think we learned that we can experiment. I’ll just reference Survivor and Race. We actually had decided to turn those into 90-90 min prior to the strikes, but it just showed that we can look at things a little differently than we have in the past, trying to be a little non-traditional when it makes sense.

I think it shows the power of CBS. My big lesson is, when we put something on that speaks to our audience, they’re going to show up and watch.

And, while they didn’t have the full schedule of support around them the way they normally would, they still worked and had great audience support for both NCIS: Sydney and Yellowstone. We’re thrilled with how NCIS: Sydney did. It’s not just a win for CBS but it’s really a win for all of Paramount, for Paramount+, for Paramount International. Same with Yellowstone, I think it just speaks to that the company is working across all different parts right now as much as possible, and we’re all looking for those wins together.

DEADLINE: Obviously this came out of necessity, but is similar windowing of shows from other parts of the company something that you could use to supplement your schedule going forward?

REISENBACH: If the right project comes up, absolutely. We’re thrilled with the success of NCIS: Sydney. I think it’s been wonderful to have these franchise extensions; they’re each its own unique property. NCIS: Origins is really different than any of the other NCIS‘s; it makes me feel so old to say it’s period when it’s set in the 90s, kill me now, right?

It’s a little edgier and grittier than previous NCIS‘s, it’s got a serialized element of it that we’re really excited about. And whereas I would say NCIS: Sydney too really had its own identity, it was very uniquely Australian and told stories that can only be told in Australia, so I feel like they’re both opportunities to gain new audiences while also being true to the DNA and loyal fan base of those shows.

DEADLINE: Can you tease something about more NCIS: Sydney on CBS?

REISENBACH: I feel really positive and there will be news to come soon.

DEADLINE: In terms of NCIS, how long do you think the mothership can go? It is the longest-running CBS scripted series at 20 seasons.

REISENBACH: I don’t see it slowing down anytime soon. It’s a fantastic cast with a fantastic writing staff that’s been there a really long time. They’re just as reenergized today as they were as when I started on the show in Season 8 [as current executive].

So, as long as they want to keep it going, we’re thrilled to be on the NCIS train. Gary [Cole] and Wilmer [Valderrama] and Sean [Murray] and Katrina [Law], all of them, they love doing the show. So we hope to continue on for quite a while.

This post is NOT an invitation for atruo-imperialists to suggest swooping in and intervening to “save” the helpless faceless masses, western meddling is the reason for so many of these problems in the first place and you can’t fight fire with gasoline)

#1. I couldn't help feeling emotional as Anne declared naturally happens during this time, closer to the 10th of Muharram or the Day of Ashura. With my miniscule challenge, Alhamdulillah, I could feel closer to Husayn RA, his family, and his supporters' pain, also at the hands of fellow Muslims.

#2. Shaykh Nishaat continued to project haqq (truth) when he said that Allah does not seek our knowledge but our sincerity! We must try and understand that we came into the world with a purpose. Are we reflecting and manifesting that purpose? Do we realise the deeply endearing Hadith Qudsi reality; where our eyes and feet become Allah's, how does it manifest into a reality? It is so that we can have a meaningful and real relationship with Allah.

Then, the royal Ghoor was made to humorously reflect on a conservative mode of Islam, which he was initially drawn to, until he was freed by Sufism. In summary, unlike conservative modes of Islam, we were told that we must understand, then live the lessons, and only then share as the ideal form of jamaat (community, group or assembly). We were reminded about another beautiful insight that we are striving for by ascertaining our unique purpose, and that is to know our Rabb (Lord).

#3. Shaykh Taner next reflected a personally discovered insight without his initial direction, when he spoke about Hazrat Husayn and his supporters who were martyred on the 10th day of Muharram. If we keep demonising the people that did this to them, it perpetuates negativity! We have to turn it around ...

It's Allah's business what He does to the original offenders, but may Allah guide their children to the straight path too. In our lives, we must pray for ourselves and our "enemies" too. Similarly, I have been observing our Tariqa's Positivity Prayers for everyone in my past and present, whether they have been a source of light or darkness, seeking collective guidance and forgiveness for all! Subhana'Allah for this palpably felt "rope", or connection to Allah through Sufism!

#4. He then delved deeper into the necessity of the Positivity Prayers. He explained that our Sufi job protocol is to transform negativity into positivity. How do we convert negative occurrences into positive outcomes? By our actions and prayers!

Being with Allah is staying positive, and choosing Shaytaan is veering into negativity. Negativity and positivity are both kinetic energy, and we can enact both with intention and action. Channeling positivity instead of negativity certainly allows more productive use of our energy in life, Ya Shakur!

#5. Anne finally declared undeniable truths where when we are with Allah; that is the ideal but our free will is shaping our world too, for a short time. So it is smarter to surrender our free will to Allah, to see what He will do through us!

She also reflected upon a personally realised miracle of the moment where I have time and energy to learn, live and love Allah - like never before, and because I am an accident survivor! She said that when Allah wants us to do things, we will be happier if we just hang in there ... The art of living is through connection.

This connection has sustained us through the uncertainty inflicted by our inner social circle. Shukran Ya Allah for creating a definite and real purpose in us, as grateful Sufis! Onto your Abbu's Arabic Khuthbah, bismillah...

NSW Government introduces Bill banning Conversion Practices

The NSW government have introduced a bill to ban conversion practices in the state.

What Will the Bill Do?

If passed, the NSW government bill will criminalise conversion practices that seek to change or suppress a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity and cause serious mental or physical harm.

It will also provide redress to survivors through a civil pathway. Importantly, it will also make it illegal to take someone out of NSW to undergo a conversion practice.

The NSW Anti-Discrimination Board will also be able to disseminate information, conduct research and hold public inquiries about conversion therapies.

How Does NSW Compare to the Rest of Australia?

Currently, legislation in Victoria and the ACT has been passed banning conversion practices, with Tasmania and South Australia considering reforms. Queensland has a ban on conversion practices in health settings.

Why Has This Taken So Long in NSW?

Before the state election in 2023, both Labor and the Coalition committed to banning LGBTQA+ conversion practices. However, this promise has been held up due to multiple church groups that wanted more consultation on the bill.

In October, the Australian Christian Lobby claimed in a newsletter that “strong pushback” had put the proposed laws “on ice”.

However, MP Alex Greenwich also asked for the Labor government to delay the bill, to consult further with gay rights groups.

John Farnham: Finding The Voice (2023)

Crocodile Dundee, Yahoo Serious, The Wiggles and Steve Irwin. Four of the most legendary imports from Australia that have penetrated the American Pop Culture consciousness. Unfortunately, one of the great figures from Down Under has not received the same attention and that is the singer known by fans as "The Voice"; John Farnham. Director Poppy Stockell has created one of the best music documentaries in recent years that has yet to reach the Netflix or Amazon Prime audience, but luckily is available on iTunes. Even if you've never heard of John Farnham or heard one note of his songs, you are in for a feel-good rock and roll tale.

The film opens in 1966 with Farnham, then a teenage plumber’s apprentice, being discovered while singing at a local musical event. After contributing to a few jingles, he became an overnight success under the name "Johnny Farnham" with the novelty song "Sadie (The Cleaning Lady)" which went to #1, beating The Beatles and other internationally recognized acts of the day. Suddenly, Farnham was the most recognized person in Australia and living the high life. Unfortunately, fame eluded him overseas and his matinee idol status became outdated by the mid-70s. Bordering on has-been, Farnham takes a job as lead singer of the already famous Australian group Little River Band in order to regain his status, but clashes with his fellow band members occurred and he came out of his tenure in debt. That's where his manager Glenn Wheatley comes to Farnham's side to institute the comeback of a lifetime. Mortgaging his house and shopping the album "Whispering Jack" to record companies and radio stations that wrote the singer of "Sadie..." off years earlier, Wheatley puts everything on the line to help his best friend. The gamble paid off and "Whispering Jack" became the biggest selling album by an Australian in the country's history and its hit song "You're The Voice" became an anthem for world peace. After struggling to regain his popularity, John Farnham was on top of the world, with endless tours of Australia and Europe that continued for years to follow.

"Finding The Voice" is as good a biography as you can get because not only do you get the full story that doesn't seem as stilted as a Wikipedia article, you walk in the subject's shoes. Director Stockell shows us John Farnham as both celebrity and regular human being. There are moments where you can picture Farnham at his lowest and the descriptions of a mid-life crisis backed up by depression, panic attacks and tears. Then there's the confidence of recording an album like "Whispering Jack", sifting through thousands of demos and eventually finding the song that becomes his signature tune, originally over the objection of its songwriter. The result is a biography that puts every episode of “Behind The Music” to shame, and honors its subject as a survivor of the music industry’s cutthroat system of instant fame and inevitable rejection.

This documentary also touches on the importance of Glenn Wheatley and his wife Gaynor in shaping Farnham’s life and helping his sanity when he was at his lowest point. Singer Richard Marx mentioned in the film that the music industry is not a place known for friendships, but John Farnham and Glenn Wheatley’s relationship ran so deep that even when Wheatley found himself in legal trouble, Farnham did not abandon him. If anything, their bond deepened. Sadly, Wheatley died in early 2022, around the same time as frequent collaborator Olivia Newton-John.
