Do you drink alcoholic beverages and live in the US? Would you like to have more clear labelling of ingredients, nutritional labels, and additives on alcoholic products?
Tumblr media
https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2024/01/31/2024-01855/labeling-and-advertising-of-wine-distilled-spirits-and-malt-beverages-with-alcohol-content
The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) is announcing virtual listening sessions to receive input from the public on labeling of wine, distilled spirits, and malt beverages to disclose per-serving alcohol and nutritional information, major food allergens, and/or ingredients. The Department of the Treasury's February 2022 report on “Competition in the Markets for Beer, Wine, and Spirits” recommended that TTB revive or initiate rulemaking in these areas. These listening sessions are intended to engage the public, including consumers, public health stakeholders, and industry members of all sizes, and facilitate the public's ability to provide input to inform rulemaking. This notice sets forth the dates and times of the virtual listening sessions and instructions for registration. It also opens a docket for submitting written comments on the issues to be discussed in the listening sessions.
Have you ever picked up an alcoholic product like wine and wanted to know if it has added flavors and sugars? Are you a tequila drinker frustrated by the lack of disclosure about abocantes or additives like caramel coloring, sugar syrups, etc.? Are you a WHISKY drinker that's frustrated about that? Do you enjoy rum, but want to move on from brands that add a ton of sugar to their rum after distillation? Do you drink sweet wine, but want to know if you're actually drinking real wine, or just a wine cocktail? Do you have to be careful drinking, because there are many alcoholic products that have things you're allergic to but are not disclosed on the label, like colorings, preservatives, or other additives?
SUBMIT A FORMAL COMMENT at the above link by March 29th to have your voice heard! You can also submit anonymously, all you need to put is your email!

Sitges, Penedès, Catalonia. Vineyards in autumn.
These vineyards grow a special grape variety used to make malvasia, an aromatic sweet white wine typical from the city of Sitges.
According to legend, a Sitgetan man called Jofre brought the first vines of this variety from the Adriatic coast in the Middle Ages. He participated in the defence of Sicily under the orders of Roger de Llúria (c.1245-1305), and it was there where he first discovered how this drink was made by the friars in a Greek city-monastery called Malvasia, thought to be modern-day Monemvasia.
After centuries of cultivation in Sitges, nowadays malvasia is considered Sitges's most genuine product. It can only be purchased bottled in the town's wine cellars. The most renowned one is Sant Joan Baptista Hospital's cellar, which you can see in the photo.

Sweet Wine Lingonberry Compote
Tumblr media
Mum made this Sweet Wine Lingonberry Compote at Christmastime, to serve with duck, as a condiment. I fancied that this delicately sweet and slightly tart sauce would also be wonderful drizzled onto ice cream, swirled into yoghurt or used as a coulis for desserts. And so it is! Plus, it makes good use of excellent leftover sweet white wine, lingering in the refrigerator since the Holidays, adding a touch of festive luxury to your morning porridge and your roast chicken alike!
Ingredients (makes about a cup):
1 cup frozen lingonberries
1/2 cup sweet white wine (but not too sweet, like a good Côtes de Gascogne)
1 tablespoon caster sugar
1 tablespoon pure local honey (something fragrant, like heather)
In a small saucepan, combine frozen lingonberries and sweet white wine. Bring to a slow boil over medium heat. Once boiling, reduce heat to medium, and simmer, stirring often, for about 15 minutes, until berries break up and reduce into a compote.
Stir in caster sugar and honey until dissolved.
Serve Sweet Wine Lingonberry Compote warm, onto thick yoghurt, Ice Cream, French Toast, or with game or poultry, or swirl, once cold, into cake batters, porridge...

Another Malvasia… this one very popular around the Central Coast–LOTS of resty lists carry it–for obvious reasons. Pale straw in the glass, a nose slightly green and vibrant, but the sweetness overpowers most of the fruit. Ripe peach and lychee make for a full, almost-syrupy lavish bouquet. Tasting it doesn’t spark any of the reasons well-made versions of the variety shine. It’s just a dull,…

Life is too short to drink bad wines 🍷
The best day is Winesday 🍇
Vin de Constance, klein Constantia. South Africa. Est 1685
100% Muscat de Frontignan. 14% alcohol. 162g. sugar per Lt of alcohol. The 2019 Vin de Constance is matured for 18 months in 500-liter Hungarian and French oak barrels, 50% new, followed by another 18 months in oak foudres. The nose is intense and powerful with a hint of saffron, quince, apricot, orange, and white flowers. The palate, rich and sweet with a touch of spice, honey, kumquat, stone fruits and a hint of lemongrass lingering on the aftertaste, keeping a beautiful harmony between sweetness and acidity You can drink it now, but you can also hold it for decades in your cellar for more maturaton. It will fill out with more vanilla and creaminess.

Postres de músic (“musician’s dessert”) or grana de capellà (“priest’s seed”) is a very simple dessert from Catalonia that consists of nuts (almond, hazelnuts, pine nuts, walnuts) and dehydrated fruit (raisins, and some people might include some others too), and is accompanied with moscatell (sweet wine).

Wait a minute…papa Tom doesn’t seem too hostile towards Nathalie. Or at least she doesn’t seem nervous/blackmailed. Does Tom not know her past allegiances or…is there an alliance in play?

Viceroy employs many in his arsenal, and as far as Nathalie is concerned, Tom is a coworker. :)
