Fluffy February Day 23: Crave
Fandom: SWTOR
Time: 28/29 ATC (near future)
Pairing:  Theron Shan/Smuggler; Aric Jorgan/Trooper (Past)
CW:  references to deceased partner; infertility; pregnancy
Word Count: ~700
~~
A/N:  Love, like grief, never fully leaves.  Aric is doing ok.
~~
“You’re either doing carb loading wrong or the scuttlebutt around Odessen is true.”
Theron’s back straightened at the words.  “Gossip is gossip, Aric.”  He kept his eyes looking straight ahead as he waited at the Odessen cantina bar for the last dish of the night – a special order – to emerge from the kitchen.
“Yeah, but you’re here at 0300 waiting on an order of chicken and waffles with a really sappy expression on your face.”
The short-hand note had been left on the bar by the bartender; Aric hadn’t acquired psychic powers recently.
Deflection.  “What are you doing up at 0300?”
“You know why.  You’re the one put me on that op to the Gree with their wacky time.”  Aric Jorgan plopped himself down on a barstool.  “Shuttle air is dry as Tatooine.  Just water. I know it’s past last call,” he reassured the bartender and his utterly pained expression.
That was at least 50% Theron’s fault.  And 50% Eva’s fault…
“Also, I noticed Eva’s shooting stance changed at the range before I left.”  A few beats.  “Congratulations.”
Theron couldn’t keep the smile away entirely, but it was small and mild.  “Thanks.”
He didn’t want to be obnoxious about it… especially with Aric.  The tension didn’t leave him entirely.
Aric studied the man before him.  “You know, Damasa’s been dead for ten years now.  And we never…the kid thing never worked out.  So you don’t have to…”  Aric made a vague gesture.
Now Theron did wonder if the Cathar was psychic or, as a sniper could be, excessively perceptive.  “Don’t want to rub it in your face.  I do remember…”  And then Theron finally looked at Aric.
He didn’t find the sadness he thought would be thee, nor the wishes that didn’t come true.  Maybe Balkar had read that situation wrong and conveyed it even more off-target to Theron.
Aric’s water arrived. Calmly, he shotgunned half of it before clearing things up.  “You seem to forget that prior to the Pub elevating Damasa to sainthood, they made our lives hell due to our ‘irregular’ marriage.”
Now Theron shifted his weight slightly.  “No, I didn’t forget that.”
Interspecies children weren’t always looked upon kindly in the Republic, even if they were safer there than in the Empire.
Aric flicked an ear.  “Even though the med techs said it was impossible, we… had the dumb idea that that it would at least make a hell of a journal article for Elara.” He wore a strange smirk as looked at the water glass in his hand. “It was always ‘chemical.’  Never lasted more than a few weeks.  And the story was the same with human donors.”  Aric finally looked over at Theron.  “But beyond that?  I know that if Damasa had lived, it wouldn’t have been the same… both what the last battle did to her and what the job did to her… and us.”
“You don’t know—”  Theron objected to the idea that they’d been ill-fated, that it wouldn’t have –
“No, I don’t,” Aric cut him off.  “But you do.”
A vivid, sharp memory cut into Theron.  Eva’s first Eternal Fleet Remembrance, now six years ago.
Theron reeled internally, trying to think of anything he could say or extract himself out of this. “It…we’ll be a medical journal article, too, if...”
Because it never had happened before.
Aric paused for a few moments, then he nodded his head.  He sipped his water.  “Should have figured.  She was a popsicle for five years.  That…isn’t helpful.”
Aric finished his water then set down his glass with an audible ‘clunk.’  “All the same.  Don’t bother to keep up any illusions for me, or anyone.”  Aric gave Theron a stern look.  “It’s happy.  After the fighting and rearranging of the galaxy – it’s scary – but it’s really happy.”
Theron let out a breath, sort of a half laugh.  “One of the few things worth being up at 0300 for.”
“Even if it all goes wrong.” Now Aric had that sad expression that Theron had expected, but at the same time… there was some joy there, something that couldn’t be stolen from him, even if the person he was thinking about was long gone.
“Chicken and waffles, order up!”
It never went wrong.  There were several medical journal articles.  Aric joined the line behind Corso and HK-55 for childminder/shooting instructor.

I know.. maybe half of those for Ahene already? But I'm going to ask 1 and 28, because they're two I don't think I do.
1. What is [character]'s favourite event, & what do they like about it?
Relics of the Gree. She just, as they say, thinks that the Gree are neat. And they’re old and weird, which she generally considers a plus.
28. What kind of ambient sound would appear around them?
It’s probably that Dark Temple whispering noise. But [weird wind rustles] is also a good option, and possibly an even more aesthetic one.

16, 18, 20 and 22 from SWTOR player asks? (I wanted to send those days ago, but my evil brain forgot to do the thing)
No worries. Thank you for the ask, Pauletta <3
16. Do you have a favorite Flashpoint or operation? A least favorite?
I enjoy Cademimu (especially on stealth with the appropriate crew skills to do the shortcuts and stuff), mostly for mocking the boss - “I fought in the war you piece of trash!” ok, and? I think Athiss and Red Reaper are pretty fun, not too difficult, more fun for me on a stealther. It's actually been a while since I've done too many flashpoints, because I've had some less-than-stellar groupfinder groups, but I'd love to get back into them if my computer can behave.
As far as operations, I’m always a slut for Dread Fortress/Dread Palace. Not just because of my unhealthy obsession with the Dread Masters, but also because I like the fights. They’re fun for me to heal (either HM, or if I’m solohealing SM with my guildmates and we do stupid shit), and I like dps-ing because I actually feel useful on all of the fights since I know them well and there aren’t places I get lost/confused (and because if we're doing a guild funrun, I get to do absolutely stupid shit and give the healer a heart attack). One day I’ll get my nim Brontes clears.
18. Which achievement(s) are you most proud of?
I was really proud of each of my HM Gods clears, even though I didn’t get to clear Izax with the rest of my team (the night before 7.0 dropped and I had to work the next morning, so I couldn’t stay on late to pull with them). I'm pretty proud of getting through the Tineback Tamer one on Ruhnuk today, even though it's a silly one, and relatively easy to do, since everything was conspiring against me to not get it lol.
20. What do you most often do while playing? (ex. PVP, FPs, quests, crafting, RP, etc.)
I mostly do dailies or catch some of my toons up on content. I’ve got a few baby toons that I can replay class stories on as well. I used to mostly do operations, but while my computer is being a potato, I'm not as comfortable joining pugs that I might suddenly disconnect from (and they'll think I ragequit) or being active on my prog team and holding them back while they wait for my computer to behave.
22. Of all the in-game events (Relics of the Gree, Rakghoul, Life Day, so on) which do you like the most, and which do you dislike?
Life Day is nice because you get to get hugs. I like Gree because Ilum is pretty (screw the Ilum pvp though, it brings out the worst toxicity in some players for some reason), and the Grey Secant stuff is fun - my guild used to do marathon runs of HM Xeno to try for the Red Sphere mount, but hasn't done it as much post-7.0. I dislike Rakghoul Week just because people are so annoying about it on Fleet sometimes, even though the event itself can be fun, and the dailies are easy enough (even if some of them are broken as hell).

have you stopped playing the game?
short answer: yeah, for the time being. i played through all class stories multiple times, i played through the expansions (though i stopped playing the newest one from february 5 mins after starting it bc it quite frankly bored me to death) and im pretty much done with it. maybe i'll return in a few years and pick up some stories again but the game doesn't keep me entertained whatsoever. (HOWEVER this does not mean this blog is abandoned, i love my characters very much and still develop and tinker on them, but my artistic muse lies somewhere else rn)
long answer:
ultimately, i have to say swtor is severely lacking some casual map events, that cycle through the day to get some casual player engagement. basically like the monthly ones (gree, rakghoul) but on a minor scale and daily, on every single planet. and i dont mean missions you pick up from a missions terminal that you can solo, i mean things that happen casually where people randomly decide to join in in the spur of the moment - akin to world bosses perhaps?
i feel like its pretty sad that the only 'multiplayer' the game has to offer are flashpoints and operations (the latter hidden behind a paywall), where gear really matters if you wanna play it with some randos, which puts off a lot of casual players (ESPECIALLY with these newest gear changes. LMFAO). and lets be real, 99% of solo players do heroics on their own unless they happen to find someone by chance to team up with so it gets done faster. and they're pretty static so its not really an event either but just a chore to get money (for a market thats so ridiculously out of hand that you might as well just forget buying desireable cosmetics while you're at it)
playing gw2 as my main mmo rn and i find myself actively searching and engaging a lot of map boss events and stuff even without a guild, and its never been an issue of what gear i have or if im good at my rotation or whatever. everyone can jump in and help out, reap the rewards and then everyone parts ways again. and if someone does die, u just band together and revive them. and if the event fails? its whatever because it'll repeat in a few hours anyway so we can try again. eso and xiv have them too and i used to camp at certain event spots all day just to play some silly event and get loot and horse around with random players. these are the moments i cherish in mmos.
u might argue swtor just isn't a game like that but 🤷‍♂️ the game quite frankly bores me so much, it feels very static and undynamic, i usually drop it again after a week of playing. besides story there isnt much to do from a casual perspective, and the rewards for doing fp/ops are... mediocre at best. i dont even have any motivation to do them unlike in XIV, ESO or GW2 where u actually get really cool gear or items of all kinds that you can use for ur enjoyment. and even with those monthly events like the rakghoul ones, it feels more like a competition of who can do the mission faster so they dont have to wait for an object to respawn rather than 'lets do it together and all win' !
so tl;dr : swtor could use some daily active map events where all kinds of players can engage in, with desirable rewards such as cool looking gear, titles, minions, mounts, furniture, whatever, and same goes to flashpoints and operations. and then i'll maybe return long term.

22. Of all the in-game events (Relics of the Gree, Rakghoul, Life Day, so on) which do you like the most, and which do you dislike? Also, 27. If you could make any current NPC a player companion, who would you pick?
Thanks for the ask :D
22. I love the Life Day event. It's fun. I just get to run around throwing snowballs at people and hugging Wookiees and not killing stuff. I don't know if there are any I explicitly dislike, although I still haven't made it to the Feast of Prosperity.
27. Assuming this means permanent companion, Tau. She and Shakka can bond over having Issues. Also @ bioware can I romance her please.

5. Favorite advance class or discipline?
Powertech, I love burning things with my flamethrower. 😂
My second favorite is definitely Sorcerer.
My third fav is Sentinel.
7. Which player voice actor is your favorite and your least favorite?
I’ll my favorite player voice actor is Kari Wahlgren who voices Fem Knight. I love how she made the Fem Knight sound older in the expansions.
For least favorite I don’t have a least favorite player actor.
10. Favorite love interest?
Kira. Kira is definitely my favorite love interest along with Theron, Lana, Elara, and Aric.
12. Do you have a preferred mount/speeder? Is there one you want, but don’t own yet?
The speeder I preferred to use is Aratech Scythe and my preferred animal mount is a Tellurian Thurrb.
The one mount I want, but don’t own is the Varactyl mount.
22. Of all the in-game events (Relics of the Gree, Rakghoul, Life Day, so on) which do you like the most, and which do you dislike?
I have only played a little of the Rakghoul event. I haven’t played any events yet, but I might do the next In-game event.

Every time the Gree event happens in swtor there's always this group of douchebag players who just sit around the pylon and pick people off who are just trying to do the two pvp missions.
I grouped up with one other person and because the group was so focused on killing me, they weren't able to stop the other player from completing the objective. They also tried to take us out among a group of NPC adds but I was able to keep us alive until we finished that mission too.
Super psyched! And if anyone wants to try for pvp dailies you can hmu. I'm on Star Forge and if you PM me I can give you my in game names and group and help keep everyone alive.
