#umineko#umineko spoilers#ikuko hachijo#ikukos turn for a more serious piece... the old man has reigned for too long#now. INCREDIBLY LONG INCOHERENT TAGS RANT INCOMING FAIR WARNING HAS BEEN GIVEN:#it makes me so so sad how little discussion there is about specifically ikuko because imho she fits so neatly into a lot of the more#overarching Big Themes of the game in a way that i have not ever really seen people take notice of or point out in a meaningful way#like even just off of the top of my head. the significance of names and what it means to go by a name that's Not Yours (she has like 4+)#what it Means to be a witch how it represents a person's deepest insecurities and flaws & how its at its core a coping mechanism#the fact that it takes two to create a universe and trying to do it on your own anyways has the capacity to bring you intense misery#^ (how she's shown to be extremely dismissive of her own work and skill until a collaborator comes into her life and helps/encourages her)#and even the family/patriarchy/misogyny stuff that is so prevalent in the rest of the game comes back around to her. even her Only Friend#(young&stupid atp to be fair) remarks that shes Weird for being unmarried + the little she does say about her past invites the question of#to what extent her self-image stems from her family deeming her a freak outcast & effectively disowning her while celebrating her brothers#and i have lot in my mind about the witch thing specifically because i think her particular situation is very reflective of what umineko's#entire magic system and fantasy facet as a whole is meant to represent for an individual. from what little we see of (what is presumably)#her Real personality she is shown to be deeply self conscious in a way that is JARRINGLY diametrically opposed to both 1.) what we see in#featherine and 2.) what we see when she is acting as a Public Figure. because both of the above are very much purposeful acts that she is#putting on in order to obfuscate her true self. and i have always been very resolute & adamant about not totally equating her to featherine#not only because im very firmly in the camp of “featherine is the avatar of the Pen Name & tohya is part of her too” but also very much b/c#i feel very strongly that the stark differences between the two are very centrally relevant to her character & her psyche. as is the case#with most other witches featherine's personality traits serve to reveal/magnify a lot of ikukos inner workings by playing on her#insecurities/reversing them e.g. ikuko being very quick to downplay her skill/achievements becomes featherine being the COMPLETE opposite#to the point where she barely registers even other witches as living beings rather than just fun touys. BUT even though i do champion the#ikuko/featherine separation so hard i ALSO think it is purposefully relevant that at first glance the line between them seems so blurry#her introduction implying a more nebulous separation between her reality/fantasy counterpart is i think is an intentional move on her part#like it is part of the front she is putting up when acting as the Author. as opposed to Ikuko the person who we (in a way ironically very#similar to the way that the Real Battler is presumably only shown during the boatscene) only very briefly get to see take up screentime#which even on a meta level lines up very well with her apparent underlying nature as a like. extremely private largely reserved/shy person#hit tag limit but if by some miracle anyone is still reading this thank you... please see ikuko with the love she deserves... ok ily byeee

broke: bingmei wants to be bottomed and bred by shizun so bad.
woke: Bingge is actually a huge breedible submissive brat who needs to be bullied and dicked down by so many men after years of mediorce straight hentai sloppy bland vanilla barely kinky sex
bespoke: Bingmei being a top and Bingge being a bottom are significant reflections of character and processing themselves. Bingge having spent his entire life constantly scraping for power and finally becoming the ultimate one on top but never being able to let his guard down in any capacity needs to bottom because it would allow him the catharsis of not constantly feeling like he's the one putting in all the effort. While Bingmei has spent years feeling a lack of control and power over his emotional state and situation and now is finally able to express this by pinning shizun to the wall and having milktoast levels of kinky sexy with shizun. Like he can be the catcher, but by preference, bingmei is a top, and it's healthy for him mentally. Bingmei wants to give and make for his loved ones like a good little wife by tying shizun up in hemp rope and showering his body in kisses. Bingge would like someone to acknowledge that the emperor is tired and has been working very hard and needs to be gagged and bound and have things so terrible. i dare not say on tumblr

Some of y'all are so focused on endos and shitting on them that you are straight up harming other exclusively traumagenic systems in the process too.
Maybe it's time to step back if you want to shit on and/or attack whatever specific subset of systems & plurals so much that you are also harming the ones you claim to support.

The oppression of mages and elves is inherently intersectional with one another and therefore neither Fenris nor Anders are completely correct but yall aren’t ready for that conversation.

"You should use Linux!" I would but I have a dissociative disorder so the skills are not communal. It's better for the access needs of my entire system to stick to Windows, an operating system we've used for our entire life so parts tend to have some knowledge on it (...even if it's for an outdated windows version)

About a month ago, I found copies of Morgoth's Ring and The War of the Jewels in a local used bookstore after many years of looking for used editions, and immediately snatched them up to go with the copy of Peoples of Middle-earth and the LOTR drafts I've had for years.
I don't have The Fall of Gondolin, but even so, I was kind of fascinated by the different variants of the story Tolkien was coming up with until very late in his life. Christopher Tolkien could pretty authoritatively date some of the revisions to the 70s based on the typewriter his father was using, and iirc it was the last First Age material (JRR) Tolkien worked on, and he seemed to really think he could get it done after not touching it for 20 years.
But between the different texts that I do have, there are so many different versions and ideas for the Maeglin backstory that it's pretty wild.
Eöl was captured by Morgoth at some point and his skills made him useful enough in Angband that he got some limited privileges among the slaves and prisoners there, and also he learned some of his craftmanship because he was there. He either escaped because of this or """escaped""" (unconsciously a tool of Morgoth still). JRRT really liked this idea on a narrative level but rejected it for being too similar to Maeglin's own story.
Eöl was a Sindarin relative of Thingol's but had always been a hater in general, and left Doriath out of some mixture of personal antagonism and not wanting to be limited by the Girdle of Melian. His incredible craftmanship had nothing to do with Angband; he advanced his skills through his friendship with the dwarves.
Or maybe he was never one of the people of Doriath, actually, but akin in a looser sense of the broader Sindarin kinship group. He was, incidentally, wrong about the Noldor stealing Sindarin lands; the Sindar weren't occupying those particular lands in the first place.
Eöl was actually a Noldo who refused the final step of the journey and trapped/misled a young Aredhel before the Noldor ever even got to the Undying Lands (thus denying her the sight of the Two Trees). The Valinorean Noldor look down on him for being personally a loser, but there's no racial subtext to it.
Separately from any of this, Tolkien keeps confusing the exact generations that the Nolofinweans and Fëanorians belong to, so there's a draft where Aredhel is accidentally moved up a generation and Eöl regards Curufin and Celegorm as his shitty nephews.
JRRT wrote a whole passage about Curufin's motives in his interactions with Eöl, what he knew or guessed at what point about just who Eöl's mysterious wife was, and the importance of showing the better side of Curufin's character (given how awful he usually is, esp in Beren and Lúthien's story) in his relationship to Aredhel and his distaste for Eöl, even if he remains arrogant. Although Curufin unfortunately doesn't choose murder on that specific occasion, his annoyance with Eöl does cause significant delay that buys some time for Aredhel and Maeglin's escape.
There's more, but those are things I found interesting!

Was going to put this in the tags, but - re: anon's implication that "maybe the problem is you"? We actually just covered that in therapy, and we've kind of come to a conclusion on our own. Long post, but, I feel like this is important enough to post about. See, the thing is, as a collective we have a majority of charismatic extroverts. We're also autistic and mentally ill - and while we've been aware of the first thing for a long time, we didn't know about the second until about 2 years ago. So we were covertly switching the entire time - unaware we had dissociated parts, and each part only retaining partial awareness of what other parts were doing. We don't have DID, we have OSDD - so we had just enough amnesia to fuck things up, but not enough that we or anyone else would notice. So in other words... from someone else's perspective, we would waltz in and absolutely dominate a conversation, since being autistic means we often miss social cues. And without the awareness we have now, there could have been anywhere between 2 and 4 alters comfortably rotating the front to talk. All of them semi-clueless about how much other parts are talking, because unless we're actively co-conscious (which takes intentional effort) we don't get 100% of what's been happening before we switched. Combine that with the fact we'd also seemingly shrug off negative feelings at a moment's notice (due to dissociation)? That we frequently forget exactly what we did to upset someone or seemed detached from the situation (again, dissociation)? That alters switching in and missing context clues or information about our life would often "fill in the gaps" by making shit up, because that was how we pretended we were normal, even when we were walking into a situation we didn't recognize? It's not really surprising that we'd raise a bunch of red flags, especially with people who've been abused. People would say we're a liar, we're manipulative, we're dangerous, we're preying on people - and other people's knee-jerk reactions to seeing us get accused often meant we couldn't defend ourselves. They rarely wanted to hear our side of the story, and our attempts to refute the accusations were seen as "making excuses". The burden was on us to prove our innocence, even to people who we thought we were friends with. But especially now we're aware of each other, we do try to hold ourselves and each other accountable for our behavior. Being autistic and charismatic means you're much less likely to notice when someone can't bring themselves to confront you; but we've been dedicating a lot of time and energy to learning about healthy boundaries. How to set them for ourselves, how to establish them with others, and how to deal with the fallout when a violation happens. It might seem like stereotypical therapy speak, but when your parents had very little concept of boundaries, that really fucks up your understanding of what is and isn't okay and in what context. The nature of this disorder means I can't always remember clearly (if at all) who we hurt and in what ways, but we're working on collective self-improvement. Anyway - while I did feel like this was important? Don't expect too many posts like this from us. People like anon can draw whatever conclusion they want about us not trying hard enough, they can slap us with as many "maybe if this keeps happening the problem is YOU" as they want. But what we need to focus on right now is letting go of what people like that think of us - especially when it's pretty obvious they've already made up their minds.

If I had a nickel for every time a system told me that their bitb alters have parts of my fics as a source I’d have like. Five nickels from two different systems. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird (/vpos) that it’s happened twice

Why do so many folks who call themselves alterhuman silently add “endos” to their DNI list. You cannot use the term Alterhuman and hate endogenic systems. The term includes all plurality on a fundamental level. Just say you’re a fucking bigot and drop the term.
This post is brought to you by Sidewalk seeing too many (oftentimes inexperienced kinfolk) blogs either outright use alterhuman and have this DNI set or silently add it on while still parading around as inclusive.
If you discriminate against system origins you cannot use the term alterhuman. You don’t get to use a term and then pick and choose who you support under it.
Get the fuck outta here.
