Someone on Gmmtv Reddit posted how many events each Gmmtv artist had in 2024.

Based on their analytics it seems like bl pairs event activity seems to peak before/during/after their shows release. Slower periods seems to be due to various factors like filming for other shows, solo work or personal. However there definitely are pairs that just consistently don’t get many events and that may be just down to little or no demand for them. It’s an oversaturated industry with not a lot of jobs to go around, as they say: only the fittest survive.

Thank you for this send anon. I read the article from Reddit with interest and it's quite impressive to see the amount of work that the OP put into to come up with the analysis/conclusion.

For people who suddenly come across this ask - to sum it up, the OP analysed all the BL/GL couples (both official and non-official) from GMMTV and the events they are contracted/attended in 2024. Bearing in mind, some CPs like PerthSanta, WilliamEst (being new) have minimal engagements (although these will definitely change now that their popularity have exploded post P10liners + Thamepo respectively). Similar with JossGawin and PoddPapang (although I am surprised KristSingto have little engagement in 2024?)

And for people who are short in time, I have taken some screenshots of the analysis that OP has done:

OP has made a point saying that the events/engagements "drop" when the CPs are busy with filming their series and usually "goes up" when it's time to promote their upcoming series.

OP also made a point stating GLs (from GMMTV) have way less engagement compared to the BLs (but I suspect this will change in 2025 onwards with Pluto/Us the Series being well-received plus the upcoming Blossom Fest Festival!) - we are already seeing all these girls being on the cover of well-established magazines (or them promoting major brands on their IGs - like YSL, Celine etc.)

And to clarify, I think GLs outside GMMTV are way way more popular - like FreenBecky, LingOrm, EngfaCharlotte etc (they are brand ambassadors to major brands?)

However, even taking into account the above - there are definitely some couples/group who are what I will considered elite or top-tier for GMMTV, where their engagements are consistent throughout the year (even if they don't have any series/drama to promote), which I personally think reflects the local market aesthetics (so, Thailand and maybe SEA?)

This includes GeminiFourth, PondPhuwin, ForceBook, TayNew, JimmySea, EarthMix, OffGun and for solo - Win and Nanon plus Tu....

I'm always going to be a FK gal through and through (JD and EM close second!). That's not gonna change. Everyone has their own bias/favs, and as you can tell - I am firmly at the FK camp. I can’t even be bothered by some of the other CPs 🤸…

While I still think FK will make amazing models and are cover magazine worthy (like hello - the impromptu Macao photoshoot??? THEY SLAYED), I'm just thankful that they have an upcoming series for me to look forward and continue my fangirling journey (after all, I fell in love with their acting first, then the bond of their friendship second) - everything else is a bonus.

growing increasingly worried at the shift in the fandom spaces in regards to the way people approach others' art. this whole wave moving towards 'what can this do for me?' as if art's something that should be tailored to specific numbers in the audience. which then breeds a sort of entitlement in the very same audience where the artist is pushed to a place where they feel like they either owe something to the audience or they are forced to mold themselves into a 'desirable' content machine that's there to please the masses.

and i feel like it just ends up with the general result of the overall quality of art decreasing because the people that DO go with the flow and (willingly or not) embrace this approach end up producing rather generic, often uninspired art OR those who stick to more complex, nuanced, original ideas get discouraged and pushed out by yet another low-effort but 'relatable' piece of fan art that's meant to appeal to as broad of an audience as possible.

and don't get me wrong, i know it's a tale as old as time in art in general. AND there's nothing inherently wrong with creating self-indulgent art with themes that are familiar and comforting. after all, for the most part that's been the basis of a lot of fan art and fan fiction. but i feel like before there was more balance, a certain distinction. room for everyone in their niches, big or small.

nowadays, with all the algorithms tailoring the online experience for you specifically and the growing use of AI character chat bots and the (genuinely heartbreaking) popularity of fics written using AI, it's affecting fandom spaces more and more. people expect the same sort of treatment from the artists that make fan art and i don't think that's a healthy approach.

thinking about orvs metatextual engagement with its genre and specifically how that interacts with its women again. kim dokja is a self insert for the reader - what he thinks is largely meant to represent what we think, especially in the beginning before sing shong really fleshes out his character. kim dokja sees the world through tropes, directly acknowledging the genre around him and the cliches we expect e.g. the overpowered mc, the scheming villain, the beautiful heroine.

but a major part of his arc is deconstructing this reductionist view of the world in a way that parallels the author's deconstruction of the genre, and that plays really well with the way orv writes women. yoo sangah is perhaps the best exanple - shes introduced as the heroine, a one-dimensional pretty girl who in any other novel would become kim dokja's love interest. but the authors allow her to be her own character, directly challenging the stereotype of the heroine and calling attention to the genre's typical lack of depth for such a character. i think this undercurrent plays in the background often but really comes to the forefront when yoo sangah reminds kim dokja of her putting pepper in their bosses' coffee, a memory kim dokja had supressed because it didn't fit with the pretty girl persona he made for her.

i interpret that moment as yoo sangah pushing her way out of the mold of heroine often found in these stories, demanding a depth be added to her character, asking kim dokja - and thus the reader - to see her in her entirety, to see the heroine archetype for what she could be. orv is at all times in conversation with its genre, and its simultaneous writing of female characters with agency and depth and acknowledgement of the tropes these women are expected to fulfill is undeniably a part of that. and its a part i enjoy. most of the time.

which I hated

so I'm trying to find a way to leave feedback to Adobe telling them I hate this feature, actually, but as it turns out there is no simple way to send an email to support. (I'm going to bite something)
