My Journey as an Online Seller
I'm intrigued and filled with excitement as I consider what lies ahead. Every day is an exciting new journey just ready to begin. I approach every day with bravery and an open mind, appreciative of every chance I have been given. Every event I have enriches the narrative of my life, and I look forward to where it will take me next.
Since I was in elementary school, I have operated a small business. I sell our vegetables before I leave for school every morning, earning 35 to 50 pesos. My mother has always taught me how to manage money when I start my small business. I belong to those children who have perfect and supportive parents and are also happy. Until I graduated from elementary school (grade 6), I had no idea that my father had a heart condition. He always told me to be strong no matter what happened to him. Until he passed away(2019) after our exam, I am not sure how I will react because I told myself, before my father passed away that whatever happened to him, I already accepted it because I had no other option. My mom passed away in 2020 because she refused to accept that my father had already died and she continued to blame herself. My mom passed away during a pandemic, at the age of 14, I traveled to Cebu without my sister or brother. I always believed that my mom would be by my side to keep me from crying in the middle of the night, but I was unable to do so until I made the decision to end my life. However, God had the best plan for me.
So now I am continuing my small business until now.I'm not ashamed to be an online seller because I don't have to wait to be given from my sisters and brothers money because I have my own money and now I have saved more than 20k because of my sales and the help of my sisters.I'm just proud of myself and I don't need to save on what I want.

A Day in the Life: Training Coordinator
As a brand, Magnetic Training is known for providing technical training courses globally. But who runs the day-to-day operations? To answer that, Iryna Usenko, Training Coordinator, introduces us to her daily routine and the behind-the-scenes of her coordinating role.
Could you please briefly share your background?
For education, I have graduated from National Aviation University. I've always had this growth mindset, which helped me pursue various opportunities and overcome challenges throughout my career path. I worked as a translator, secretary, and manager of international economic activities, among others, all leading to this day, where I'm currently working as a training coordinator at magnetic talents, a sub-brand of Magnetic Group.
As a training coordinator, what are your primary responsibilities?
As you would guess, with a coordinator's role comes plenty of planning and detailed work. My primary responsibilities are the preparation of type training courses, including course records, online meetings, learning sessions, certificates, and exam records. I also support trainees and instructors, handle customer correspondence, prepare agreements and all the needed paperwork, invigilate exams, and attend office duties.
What does your daily work routine look like?
My day starts with a morning run and a cup of coffee while checking the mailbox and prioritizing my tasks. No day goes by without correspondence to our trainees and preparation of the required exam records. This also includes course records, on-site meetings, and remote exams. Before calling it a day, I take a moment to think about what went well and what I learned. It's like wrapping up one chapter and getting ready for the next day's adventures.
What advice do you have for individuals aspiring to become training coordinators or enter a similar field?
Every case is individual, but generally, I would split my advice into four steps. First, develop strong communication and organizational skills as you will communicate a lot with people of different nationalities, organize training courses, and provide support during diverse types of training. Second, be on top of your management skills. Third, stay up-to-date with contemporary training methods and technologies. Fourth, learn foreign languages, which always comes in handy.
Since 2024 is fast approaching, what can newly-joining trainees expect in the year to come?
Magnetic Training is going to introduce two new types of training courses that will be available from January 2024, such as B777 (GE 90) B1&B2 type training course, and Engine High-Pressure Compressor Blend Repair Training. All important information about the courses can be found on our website.

Yay! We made it, we are officially hired and as an employee of China Banking Corporation. I remember when the first time na super struggle kase halo-halong kaba, andun pa sa point na around 8 something tayo nakarating, medyo naligaw-ligaw pa OTW kase hindi natin alam saan yung Megatrade HAHAHAHAHAHA. On the day na magsasagot na tayo mung prelimenary essay na asking questions about ourselves, we are comfortable to say na "ah ito na yung exam ata nila tas interview nalang, without knowing na behind the initial interview meron pa pala.
Based on my experience on initial interview as in halo-halong kaba na talaga, ako yung pinaka huling tinawag sa inyo tapos kayo tapos na sa initial interview, andun pa sa point na andami kong doubt sa sarili ko na sana kayanin ko, sana meron akong confidence to faced the interview, when my name alrwady called, andito na yung kaba phase e. Tipo na parang mamental block talaga ako, and gladly super bait nung nag interview sakin, she only have serioes of questions regarding my resume.
After the initial interview I proceed dun sa examination area which is there is 2 part of exam una yung verbal and part 2 is logical, as in super tricky ng questions to the point na I don't know what is the exact answer. Dumating pa sa point na pinanghihinaan na ko ng loob kase what if hindi ako pumasa kase andami kong hindi nasagutan and yung comoutation ko and halos karamihan dun is hinulaan ko lang. Take note there is timer na once na tumunog na yun di na pwede magsagot ng previous question. Yung kalaban mo dun is yung oras kase sa sobrang pressured you dont't know what will happen next.
When we already passed the exam sheet, andun parin yung kaba kase halos karamihan is isa-isa ng tinatawag yung name just to say that "Ok thank you for taking the exam, the names that I would be calling will go hear to the front and ok you just keep you line open for the interview either ftf or online, thank you". Edi ako naiwan dun sa table, I think 5 persons lang kasabayan ko na makakapag proceed sa final interview nung una nag tataka ako bakit hindi tinatawag name ko. Without my knowing na ako na yung sasabak for the final interview.
I have low self esteem, I don't know how would I feel. Kapag kinakabahan ako I have teary eyed kase kaya yung nag iinterview sakin yun pala yung Head Manager 😭 si sir Mon huhu. Kinabahan ako kase he always asked me most of his questions is ano daw ba magiging problema niya kapag hinire niya ko, sabi ko nalang wala.
When I have done with my interview bumaba ako para kumain akala ko after final interview, wala ng next, sa super gutom ko nawala sa isip ko na dapat pala tinanong ko yung nag aassist, so I decided na after ko kumain bumalik sa recruitement area. After ko bumalik I asked the people on thw front desk if what is the next step after the final inrerview, and I am very happy kase kahit matagal ko inantay yung Job Offer, officially Ma'am Shie told me na "Congratulations, you are hired as branch operation assistant at Sta. Mesa". The way he said that super proud na proud ako sa sarili ko na really ito na hired na talaga ko 😭. When the time na na false hope na ko kase akala ko wala akong job offer napalitan lahat yung pagod ko ng saya.
Thank you Lord, sobrang bait niyo parin po sa akin, thank you so much ikaw lang po sandigan ko sa lahat, thank you po sa paggabay sakin, thank you Lord 😭 I am very lucky kase unexpected talaga yung lahat :<

I need a break
Shangqi x Reader (Platonic)
A/N: I feel like I’m loosing steam towards the end of my placement and wow I have never needed a break this badly before. Perhaps a short Shangqi x Reader imagine where they are both University students. Seriously at this rate I’ll just be solely a Shangqi writer HAHAHA. Doing this on my phone because I don’t want to open my work computer. Let’s see where this impromptu idea takes me to. Hope you enjoy it and as always like and comment if you wish!
Genre: PG-13
Warnings: None really, just friends supporting each other! I guess there’s an inaccurate timeline if you look at the MCU but hey this is an imagine plus if you look at some of the wiki pages, Shangqi is actually born in 1998/1999. So appreciate if you’re kind enough to go with the flow to read this comfort fic!
‘Y/N!’ Shangqi rushes to catch up with you after class. You made an effort to conceal your tiredness but he saw it right through. ‘Gosh…you alright?’
You think to yourself. Were you really alright? The answer was pretty obvious. You were ten weeks into your placement and your emotions were a jumbled up mess. Having to deal with work responsibilities was one problem, school assignments were another issue all together. At this point, you felt like you were just getting through each week for the sake of it.
At first, you believed that what you were going through was simply a transition to becoming an adult. You thought that naturally, you would be able to persevere through the stressful periods by yourself. But of course, it has been hard.
You were a social work intern at a neighborhood youth centre, thirty minutes away if you took the train and bus. The work was fulfilling in it’s own ways, but recently there were self-doubts filling your brain, if you were really cut out for the job in the future. If you weren’t, what else could you do?
As you sat with Shangqi in the school’s student-ran cafe, you found yourself pouring out the exact same concerns to him. Credit to him, Shangqi never interrupted your monologue, he just simply listened. That’s what best friends were for. That’s what you did for him to when he ran into issues with his family.
Even then, he couldn’t deny that hearing you doubt yourself broke his heart. He had known you since high school. You mostly kept to yourself and one or two close friends. Despite joining the school’s athletic team where you were one of the main athletes, you preferred to stay in the shadows unlike some of your teammates. That didn’t stop you from going out of your way to help other students in need; like helping the girl who was in an arm cast to copy the social studies notes, even if it meant you had to do it twice. Or maybe just talking to a friend who was stressed out about their results.
Basically, you had studied your ass off to get a secured spot at this university who were only one of the few that offered the degree. He remembers you telling him the moment you got your offer, ‘I’m finally good at something. I don’t have to worry anymore!’
Shangqi wasn’t stupid. The pandemic had done some crazy things. And by crazy, it affected the self-esteem that you had been working so hard on by participating in various projects and events, with you being in charge of a drama production that was promoting on mental health. That was a big deal considering that you were a major introvert.
Online engagement was never easy. In fact he has heard some of your struggles that you’ve shared with him regarding this and it only makes him admire you even more. For someone who preferred to keep to themselves, stepping out of one’s comfort zone, to take on a role that wasn’t just simply about helping people - that took guts.
‘I’m sorry I’m just loading you with all this. I just feel…’ You trailed off, suddenly becoming emotional again. Again, Shangqi does not pry. ‘That I can’t do anything right.’ You emphasize that you had ended the statement for you were unsure that you could keep your cool if you had tried to continue on.
‘If I hear you saying sorry another time,’ he chides, ‘you’re paying for our meal later.’ Your lips curved upwards slightly before returning to its somber position. Shangqi decides that a meal won’t cut it. He needs to deploy ‘Operation Y/N’. Standing up with your buzzer to collect the food, Shangqi whips out his phone. There will be a few changes for today.
Food was definitely a cure in this situation, but it was only a part of the solution. After inhaling your ramen at light speed, Shangqi tells you that today will be a different Friday. ‘And you can’t complain! It’ll be a weekend tmr,’ he tells you. So why not? You figured that even if you went back home early, your head wouldn’t be in the right place to complete the essay for your English module.
‘Hold up! The VR studio that Katy was talking about?’ You look at the tickets inside the taxi that was taking you and Shangqi to the location. ‘How did you even, it was so hard to get these tickets!’ From the time Shangqi met you outside the classroom, he had yet to see you so ecstatic. Until now.
‘Well,’ Shangqi gives his best shrug. ‘I called in a favor from a friend. Said that it was for emergency purposes.’ He raised his fingers to make connotations in the air much to your amusement.
‘Wow… just how much do I not know about you Mr Popular?’ You teased. Shangqi decides to leave the fact on him having to persuade the Wakandan Princess in giving him free tickets.
‘Please! I swear whatever you want me to do, I’ll do it! It’s for Y/N!’
‘Ey well why didn’t you say so? If it’s for that nice friend, of course!’ Shuri leaves the entrance of the compound, an exasperated Shangqi trailing behind.
Yeah, the VR studio that Katy told them about was also funded by King T’Challa himself. With stunning life like visuals thanks to Wakandan technology, the VR studio was located in a middle class neighborhood. T’Challa believed that no matter where kids came from, they should have the right to enjoy and to explore the world. For now, he wasn’t ready to share that he was on the way on becoming a full-fledged Avenger yet - you just had too much on your plate. He’ll just have to settle with this white lie.
‘Is Katy coming?’ You were on the verge of vibrating off your seat. ‘She would love this place!’ Even when you were struggling, Y/N still manages to think about other people. Today, Y/N will put her needs first.
As if to answer your previous question, you can see an equally excited Katy waiting for the two of you at the roundabout. ‘HEL-LO EVERYONE! LET’S GET OUR FRIDAY STARTED IN PROPER SHALL WE?’ Her loud voice had attracted stares, some very displeased looks too but at this point in time, you didn’t give a damn. Katy was right, it was time to enjoy!
You wished that you could slow down time, or even replay it continuously when you needed cheering up because the only thing you felt was pure happiness - euphoria even. Your stomach was in knots for laughing hysterically together with Katy when Shangqi jumped in shock from a surprise scare from a zombie. ‘I’m keeping that for leverage,’ she tells you, quietly slipping her phone into her fanny pack.
The Wakandans had really outdone themselves this time. Your favorite VR was the paradise VR. Slipping the headgear, you say goodbye to the smiles of Katy and Shangqi, whisking away to a beach that oddly reminded you of your dream destination - Hawaii. From where you were standing, you were surrounded by green and majestic islands. Despite their sheer size, you weren’t intimidated. In fact, you were healing.
Your mind was no longer in the room of the VR studio. How could it when the sun kissed your skin, giving you the much needed energy that you were lacking for so long? In the room, the two sees you kick your shoes to the side, going barefoot. It may have seem strange, but with the monitor beside you, your actions were perfectly logical.
As a kid, you used to despise the prickly feeling of sand in between your toes. But now, you grew to love the sensation that each grain of sand had on your skin. It made you feel grounded, that everything was going to be ok. You raise your virtual hand to touch your face - were you crying?
‘She must have been really stressed huh?’ Katy whispers to Shangqi who nods in return. How he hated the fact that you were giving so much to your work but still felt underappreciated. Forget the Avengers with superhuman abilities, you were the true MVP. The VR ends and you remove your headgear. ‘I’m ok,’ you automatically reassure them despite the dry tears left on both cheeks. You step down the platform slowly, trying to regain sense of the real world.
What you didn’t expect was the two embracing you in a hug, squishing you in between them. Maybe that had set off the waterworks. For someone like Katy, she had sage advice.
‘Life can be pretty shitty right? But I’m so proud of you fighting it Y/N. Just remember that it’s ok to be weak. I mean, I’ve seen worse from Shangqi,’ she jabs her finger towards his direction, earning a glare from him. That’s Katy, always trying to add a bit of humor to this grey world. Calming down, you let go of the both of them. ‘Thanks guys, for everything.’
‘Hey,’ Shangqi responds, slinging his arm over your shoulder. ‘We’re friends, so we don’t leave each other behind.’ Phone beeping, he retrieves it to check the message. ‘And look at that, nice timing. Who wants Korean BBQ?’
Trailing behind them, you get an amusing view of Shangqi bickering with Katy on how many Soju bottles she’s allowed to order later. As San Francisco welcomed the night, you were just thankful that you had the two of them to walk through this crazy maze called life.
‘Last one to the shop is paying!’
‘Oh you’re on Mister!’
A/N: I really just think that this was also an imagine for me to cope too. So I can only hope to finish my placement/assignments/exams well! To anyone who does studies and work simultaneously, I fucking respect you (allow me to use expletives for now, these people deserve the respect). If you’re going through a stressful time, I hope this brings the slightest comfort for you and remember… YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Again, thank you for reading!

Resources that got me through (UK) med school
Hello everyone! As we are at the start of a new year, I’ve collated this list of online resources/apps that saved me during my revision at various points of med school. I’ll put the links and why I think they are good. These are UK-based resources as I often found when I searched things that US stuff came to the top of the list and that wasn’t always helpful for learning management because guidelines etc differ.
1. TeachMe Series
These are developing all the time and they have added Obs and Gynae, Paeds and Physiology which are new and I haven’t used. They are kept up to date and written by current health care professionals, and edited to ensure they are correct. The topics have really good diagrams, clinical relevance and key points.
a) TeachMe Anatomy
Tumblr media
When: Preclinical years
Pros: colour-coordinated diagrams, each topic has a clear structure, including vasculature, nerves etc. Clinically relevant links
Cons: detail can be a little overwhelming, I would use this to make notes that I then revised from (definitely not for last minute revision!)
b) TeachMe Surgery
Tumblr media
When: Clinical years - especially final year when we had a specific surgery placement
Pros: there are two ways you can approach things - by presentation or by diagnosis which really helped me for linking differentials. Also it has topics on the practicalities of surgery and perioperative care which I will probably continue to use as reminders for my surgical job next year
Cons: If you need to know exactly how a surgery works it might not go into specific details about the operation, but it is aimed at med students and we didn’t really need to know that. Also, it is kept up to date but check the date the topic was written and consider triangulating sources for management because guidelines change
2. Geeky Medics
Tumblr media
These are again all topics written by healthcare professionals then edited. They have a wide range of topics but are less focused on conditions like diagnosis and management and more about practical OSCE guides or how to be a doctor, with videos and checklists. It also has an app but you have to pay for it.
When: Throughout medical school (and beyond!), particularly for practical or data interpretation exams (I go back to their interpreting LFTs and also death verification and certification posts a lot)
Pros: good for demonstrating how to do various examinations and for revision because you can test other people and use a checklist. Also have lots of free quiz questions on geekyquiz and also loads of cases to take histories from each other without having to make it up yourself
Cons: not comprehensive when it comes to revising, and the search function i find can be a little...erratic with what it shows you.
3. BNF
Tumblr media
There are two places you can find the BNF - NICE or Medicines Complete. There’s the same information on both, try them out and see which you like better in terms of layout. Also download the app, because the interactions checker is a lot quicker to use than on the web.
When: whenever you’re learning about management of conditions and in the run up to the PSA you’re going to need to be very familiar with this website, so may as well start early (and you will carry on using it beyond med school)
Pros: The treatment summaries are up to date and based on NICE guidelines so are UK specific. I liked to refer to them in revision because it’s a good single reference point when doctors give you conflicting treatment ‘preferences’. The pages for the drugs are set out in a uniform format and it’s really easy to find the information you need.
Cons: the website is not always great for the pharmacology of drugs/saying which class a drug is part of. The treatment summaries are wordy and you have to sift through them sometimes, so not for last minute revision.
4. Almostadoctor
Tumblr media
Again articles are written by doctors and then edited and ensures they are up to date. They have references at the bottom of the page for more detail but are a very good summary of conditions.
When: all through med school. Has basic clinical skills, diagnosis and management
Pros: The drugs section is very helpful for common drugs and has some simple pharmacology in there, and has flashcards for each topic if you find it helpful revising off those
Cons: tends to be split by condition rather than symptoms, there are some ways of comparing differentials for example chest pain but it makes a big table which i find confusing
5. NICE CKS
Tumblr media
Oh boy is this site my saviour in GP, but I did use it in final year for some core conditions. It has referral criteria, decisions for management but it does allow for plenty of your own clinical judgement.
When: definitely more for finals to aid your revision, but after that if you end up on a GP rotation this is like a bible.
Pros: It’s really good for reminding you of red flag symptoms to check and also gives contraindications to certain management options
Cons: Not necessarily good for telling you what examination findings to expect and the site can involve clicking on lots of links taking you to other pages and then you can’t remember which part you came from.
If anyone has any others that I’ve not mentioned feel free to add! sorry for the long post, but I hope these are helpful and good luck everyone starting a new year of med school!

Remnant’s Top Ten Anime of 2020
2020 Was certainly a ride wasn’t it? To those that managed to make to make it through in one piece, or any piece, good job. Hopefully 2021 is better to us all.
Despite the world mostly being on fire, I’d hazard to say that a lot of good shows came out in 2020 (despite a number of them being delayed to either later in the year or this year altogether). I meant to release this list much earlier, but I kept changing it around.
Anyway, here are the ones I thought were the best.
Honorable Mentions:
Dorohedoro
Tumblr media
Synopsis: The plot centers on a man named Caiman and his search for his real identity after a transformation by a sorcerer left him with a reptile's head and no memory of his former life.
Along with his friend Nikaido, he violently assaults sorcerers in the Hole, with the aim of taking their heads into his mouth, where a strange face will appear and confirm whether the sorcerer he has bitten onto was the one responsible for his transformation or not.
As the residents of the Hole, the En family and the Cross-Eyes gang, along with many others, collide with one another, the mystery of Caiman's identity begins to unravel, reigniting ancient grudges and threatening to forever change both the Hole and the sorcerers' world.
Thoughts: This is the only Netflix anime I watched this year (I missed out on Great Pretender before the year ended), and I can honestly say I had fun with this one. It’s animation was good, the story was engaging enough, and the characters were all unique (Noi best girl). The one problem I would say with the show is that it can come off as unfocused at times, meandering from one plaot point to another with no real connective tissue.
Still a fun series though.
ID: Invaded
Tumblr media
Synopsis: The anime follows the investigations of Narihisago, a renowned detective now in prison, who is tasked with diving into the id wells of various serial killers.
Two years prior to the current events, Narihisago's daughter Muku was brutally murdered by a serial killer, leading Narihisago's wife to commit suicide. These deaths prompted him to hunt down and murder the killer, earning him his prison sentence. He is still depressed and haunted by his wife and daughter's deaths, but also uses this as motivation to take his work seriously and help stop serial killers.
Thoughts: One of a handful of original series that came out this year. This show gave me heavy Inception/Minority Report vibes from both its premise and presentation. It wobbles under the weight of its own concepts towards the end, but it still a fun ride nonetheless.
Gleipnir
Tumblr media
Synopsis: The story centers on Shuichi Kagaya, a high school student with an unusual secret. He has the ability to transform into a monster resembling a giant dog mascot costume with a zipper down his back and a large cartoonish smile. After rescuing a strange girl, Claire Aoki, from a warehouse fire, they join each other to search for Claire's older sister, who is assumed to be responsible for the death of their parents.
Thoughts: When the initial rollout for this show began I admit I wasn’t really a fan. I thought it was just going to be a hyper violent, fanservice show. Now in some ways it is that, but if you really look Gleipnir tells a very interesting tale of identity and what it truly means to have a wish granted. The music was pretty good as well, and that’s really something from me as a person who doesn’t pay attention to soundtracks.
Hope this show gets a season 2, but if not I’ll more than likely start the manga.
Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina
Tumblr media
Synopsis:  Fascinated by the stories of Niké, a witch who traveled around the world, Elaina aspires to take the same course. Her determination of studying books and magic leads to her becoming the youngest apprentice witch to pass the sorcery exam.
However, when Elaina attempts to receive training in order to become a full-fledged witch, she is rejected due to her extraordinary talents until she finds Fran, the "Stardust Witch," whom accepts her. After earning her title, the "Ashen Witch," Elaina begins her exploration around the world, visiting and facing all kinds of people and places.
Thoughts: As a fan of the Light Novels, I was pretty excited when it was announced it was getting an anime. For the most part it didn’t disappoint. Though it skipped most of the stories in the novels, the show still told a few good stories that made for some amazingly animated tv.
Talentless Nana
Tumblr media
Synposis: In the near future, mysterious monsters known as the "Enemies of Humanity" begin to appear, and with it so do children with supernatural powers called the "Talented". To prepare them for the upcoming battle against these Enemies, all the Talented are sent to a school located on a deserted island, where they have all their daily needs provided for until they graduate and communication with the outside world is forbidden.
One day, a new student named Nana Hiiragi arrives at the school. Her friendly and cheerful personality lets her quickly make friends with the class. However, with Nana comes a whole litany of mysterious occurrences on the island.
Thoughts: I can’t say too much about Nana without spoiling it’s first episode twist, but I will say that its a pretty interesting show with a fairly compelling game of cat and mouse being played.
Now on the the actual list:
10. The Misfit of Demon King Academy
Tumblr media
Synopsis: After 2,000 years of countless wars and strife, the demon king Anos Voldigoad made a deal with the human hero, Kanon, to sacrifice his own life to ensure peace could flourish. Reincarnating 2,000 years later, Anos finds that royal demons now harshly rule over lower class hybrid demons in a society that values Anos's pureblood descendants over the demons who interbred with other species, such as humans and spirits.
Finding that magic as a whole has begun to decline and his descendants weaker as a result of the peace he created, Anos, now technically a hybrid himself, decides to reclaim his former title of Demon King, but first, he must graduate from the Demon King Academy where he is labeled a total misfit.
Thoughts: Originally I was going to put Nana in this spot, but its lack of a real ending pushed it out of the list. If only slightly. Misft at Demon Academy is just a fun ride from start to finish. There’s always something about shows with ridiculous OP protagonists (Overlord, One Punch Man, etc.) that gets the blood pumping.
It’s like junk food. Great for the right moment, but not needed all the time.
9. Ikebukuro West Gate Park
Tumblr media
Synopsis:  A charismatic troubleshooter tries to keep the peace between warring factions while protecting his loved ones in Ikebukuro West Gate Park.
Thoughts: I honestly had no idea what to make of this show when I first saw the synopsis, but I gave it a try on a whim. I’m glad I did because this was easily the dark horse of the Fall season. I really liked the mostly self contained story format the series had, and there were a few very good episodes here. Check it out.
8.  My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Catarina Claes, the young daughter of a noble family, one day bumps her head and regains memories of her past life as an otaku. It is then that she realizes she has been reborn into the world of the otome game Fortune Lover, reincarnated as the game's villainess who, regardless of what route the player took in the original game, is doomed to be either killed or exiled.
In order to avoid these routes that lead to doom, Catarina begins taking countermeasures to try and avoid things going the same way as the game. This, however, ends up having unexpected consequences on her relations with the other characters of the game's world.
Thoughts: Normally I’m not a fan of Reverse/Otome harem series, but somehow Bakarina managed to pull me in, to a good result. This show was easily one of the best comedies I watched this year with a good cast and a likable protagonist.
7.  Deca-Dence
Tumblr media
Synopsis: In the fortress city of Deca-dence, the lowly Tanker girl, Natsume, dreams of becoming a Gear warrior following her father's death during a Gadoll attack. She is assigned to a maintenance team led by Kaburagi whom she discovers is more than he appears. Kaburagi has a secret role in eliminating "bugs", humans who threaten Solid Quake's operations.
When Kaburagi discovers that Natsume is listed as dead in the company database, he decides to keep her under observation and offers to train her to fight.
Thoughts: Giant monsters and giant robots. What more do you need? Watch it.
6. A Certain Scientific Railgun T
Tumblr media
Synposis: The Daihasei Festival has begun, and that of course means that Tokiwadai Middle School—a prestigious all-girls' middle school—is competing too. Despite the participation of the "Ace of Tokiwadai," Mikoto Misaka, the other students who are participating are still putting their utmost effort into winning, no matter how impossible the feat may seem against her might. However, not all is fun and games. Due to the the festival, Academy City opens to the outside world, and various factions have begun plotting ways to infiltrate the city. Misaka appears to be on their radar, and as the festival proceeds, people lurking from the shadows begin to emerge...
Thoughts: Not really much to say here. It’s the third season of Railgun, but good thing here is that each season of Railgun is better than the last. Truly the best of the To Aru universe.
5. BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense.
Tumblr media
Synposis: Urged on by her friend, Kaede Honjō begins playing the VRMMORPG NewWorld Online under the name Maple. Not wanting to get hurt, Maple opts to be a shield user with maxed out defense stats, and continues putting every status point she earns in the game into increasing only her defense level.
As a result, she is left with slow foot speed and no magic, but her high defense allows her to endure most hits without taking any damage. This, along with her basic-level creative thinking, allows for her to make unexpected accomplishments in the game, its quests and events. By doing this, she ends up earning all kinds of equally unexpected skills and becomes one of the strongest players in the game. Thoughts: Bofuri is another OP power fantasy like Demon King Academy, but with the twist of being fused with CGDCT. The cast is extremely likable (especially Maple) and when Silver Link wants to they can make the battles REALLY dynamic. A nice comfortable watch, which was sorely needed in 2020.
4. Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle
Tumblr media
Synposis: The story follows Princess Syalis, a young princess who was kidnapped by the demon king, and her quest to sleep well while imprisoned.
Thoughts: A simple premise for a not so simple story. Sleepy Princess for me was easily the best comedy of the year, with plenty of heart and action thrown in as well. I was wary of the series at first, thinking that the premise wouldnt be entertaining for more than a few episodes, but boy was I wrong. Each episode was funnier than the last and Doga Kobo pulled out all the stops to make it look as gorgeous as possible.
3. Jujutsu Kaisen
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Idly indulging in baseless paranormal activities with the Occult Club, high schooler Yuuji Itadori spends his days at either the clubroom or the hospital, where he visits his bedridden grandfather. However, this leisurely lifestyle soon takes a turn for the strange when he unknowingly encounters a cursed item. Triggering a chain of supernatural occurrences, Yuuji finds himself suddenly thrust into the world of Curses—dreadful beings formed from human malice and negativity—after swallowing the said item, revealed to be a finger belonging to the demon Sukuna Ryoumen, the "King of Curses." Yuuji experiences first-hand the threat these Curses pose to society as he discovers his own newfound powers. Introduced to the Tokyo Metropolitan Jujutsu Technical High School, he begins to walk down a path from which he cannot return—the path of a Jujutsu sorcerer.
Thoughts: Originally I wasn’t going to put this on the list, because the season doesnt conclude this year, but I decided to make an exception since the show started so strong. Many people were hyping this up as the next big shonen, and they were right. Mappa really went balls to the wall with this show and I’m pretty hype for what happens this cour.
2. Akudama Drive
Tumblr media
Synopsis: The bustling metropolis of Kansai, where cybernetic screens litter the neon landscape, may seem like a technological utopia at first glance. But in the dark alleys around the brightly-lit buildings, an unforgiving criminal underbelly still exists in the form of fugitives known as "Akudama." No stranger to these individuals, Kansai police begin the countdown to the public execution of an infamous Akudama "Cutthroat," guilty of killing 999 people. However, a mysterious message is sent to several elite Akudama, enlisting them to free Cutthroat for a substantial amount of money. An invisible hand seeks to gather these dangerous personas in one place, ensuring that the execution is well underway to becoming a full-blown bloodbath.
Thoughts: Want to know what it would be like if Quentin Tarantino made an anime? Well here you go. An adrenaline filled rollercoaster ride from start to finish with a crazy cast of characters and even crazier visuals. There’s even a bit of social commentary in there if you squint.
1. Oregairu Climax
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Resolved to become a more independent person, Yukino Yukinoshita decides to smoothen things out with her parents, and the first step toward achieving that goal is to prove herself. As graduation draws closer for the third-year students, Iroha Isshiki—the president of the student council—requests a graduation prom in collaboration with the Volunteer Service Club. Yukino accepts this request of her own volition, hoping to use it as a chance to demonstrate her self-reliance, but what lies ahead of her may prove to be a hard hurdle to cross.
At the same time, a chance for the Volunteer Service Club members to better understand each other presents itself. And thus, Hachiman Hikigaya's hectic and bittersweet high school life begins to draw to a close.
Thoughts: The gif says it all really. I could just leave that there and end this list on a somewhat high note, but I’ll explain it.
Now objectively, there were better shows than this one (off the top of my head JJK comes to mind) but when you combine all three seasons there is no contest in my mind that Oregairu had one of the most perfect endings to a series I have ever seen.
It was an ending 7 years in the making. The first season in 2013 was good, the second season two years later was even better, but Climax was Oregairu at is absolute best and that goes beyond the story and characters. A lot of praise also has to go to Studio feel., who took over animation duties from Brain’s Base in season 2. While BB’s animation was much more accurate to the LN, feel’s more realistic designs fit the more mature direction the story was starting to go, giving the anime some of its best moments.
Watching Hachiman, Yukino, and Yui grow and change from naive teenagers to somewhat understood young adults was amazing and sometimes heartbreaking to watch. Hachiman’s search to find something “genuine”, Yukino’s desire to be independent, and Yui struggling with her feelings of love and friendship all clash and compliment in very interesting ways that makes these three characters even more relatable than they were before.
Lots of long running series don’t stick to landing, but in my eyes Oregairu stuck it perfectly. That’s why its my favorite anime of 2020.
Here’s to 2021.

Tis the Season of Surprises (AjinSS21)
Here is my Ajin Secret Santa for @kooroka ! :D
You told me about your fave characters, so I incorporated them all into the story. I hope you'll enjoy some Christmas fluff. Happy Holidays ! 🎄❤️(✯◡✯)
------
The 25th of December was a snowy winter’s day. Kou’s car wasn’t the newest or fastest even when the roads weren’t glazed like an icy harbinger of death, but for someone who had only learned to drive a few months ago and passed his first driver’s exam with flying colours, he thought he did a pretty good job. From managing to stuff a stoic Kei into the passenger’s seat, their overnight bags into the trunk and the assembly of presents onto the backseat, to navigating the slippery roads all the way to their destination and arriving on time in the afternoon right in front of the apartment complex, even securing a parking space – everything went better than he thought it would.
There was no way anyone on earth could possibly find something to complain about.
“You almost killed me there, good job.” Kei Nagai grumbled, as he clicked his seatbelt open and reached for the door handle.
Fine, perhaps with one exception.
They took the elevator up to the 6th floor. Izumi was waiting for them, and there was a genuine smile on her face when she greeted them and welcomed them in.
“Oh, you shouldn’t have.” she said, but accepted the presents from Kei regardless that Kou knows Mrs. Nagai hand-selected for the occasion. If there was one thing that the Nagai family excelled in, it was not tarnishing their reputation- or at least, exerting exceptional damage control.
Tosaki greeted them with a curt nod from the kitchen island. “You really shouldn’t have.” he said, and he too sounded genuine, although it seemed to be born out of moody contempt more than anything else.
“Wow!” Kou exclaimed, having skirted past the genkan and into the centre of the apartment quickly, “This place is really nice!”
That it was. The 2LDK Izumi and Tosaki had secured, in a commutable distance from the ministry, was not shabby by any means.
Of course, it was nothing compared to the hideout- but then, few things were comparable to an entire rural military complex complete with training grounds and a forest. When he voiced this, Tosaki merely scoffed in response and adjusted his glasses.
“Like we would need all that space again. And like we could, with all the rent prices here.
“And your rent to pay for.” was what went unsaid.
While Kei had been able to go back to live with his family, Kou’s parents were nowhere to be found.  (He honestly wished he could say that this had been a first). Which in essence meant he was right back where he had been before the entire fiasco with Sato had started.  In an attempt not to let him become homeless, and perhaps out of out of an ever-present desire to atone for his own wrongdoings involving the Ajin Research committee, Tosaki had secured him a place to live, and not only paid for the deposit, his rent and utilities, but even for a used car and his driver’s license,  as well as giving him an allowance for groceries and anything personal. It was a charitable offer his old self had never accepted, but Tosaki had phrased it as being “payment for his services” in their military operation. And because he really did have nothing else waiting for him, Kou had accepted. He had gotten a part-time job to pay Tosaki back– truth be told, he would have gotten two if the governmental worker hadn’t interfered and told him save the money and to focus on school.
School. There where times when- although he would never say it out loud- Kou even missed Sato and the adventure created by his active presence, because now that this part of his life had gone abnormally quiet, he dealt with an enemy of quite another kind- receiving his high school diploma.
They were enrolled in the same online school, but while Kei was on the fast track to graduation, only taking an additional year to perfect his scores and heighten his chances at being accepted to a prestigious medical university, which was something that blew Kou’s mind on a regular basis, he himself was struggling with barely passing his classes.
Then again, some things really did never change.
Kou had trouble finding the right word for a moment, but grinned when a sudden inspiration struck:  “Hideout 2.0. Right? Right?”
“Don’t ever call it that.” Tosaki grumbled.
“Why not? It has the same- like, atmosphere, doesn’t it?”
“I sure hope it doesn’t.”
“Come on, why not?”
While Tosaki went on a tangent on how the apartment really did look nothing like the hideout and how he and Izumi really only lived together as roommates, Kou took a look around at the place. They really had put effort into decorating the place. A Christmas tree stood by the corner, adorned with red and silver baubles and string lights wrapped around its core. Even a small star had been placed on top. Silver tinsel hung from the curtain rods and a parade of reindeer had taken residence on the windowsill.
“Ogura sent some of the things over.” Izumi said, having noticed his curious gaze and lowered her eyes awkwardly, “We don’t really know how to celebrate, so- “
“Ah, no way, it looks great.” Kou insisted, “You did a fantastic job. Right, Kei?”
Kei mumbled something noncommittal, burying himself into the sofa and starting to type on his laptop, because apparently, nothing quite beat the festive spirit like getting ahead on your classwork.
It really was like being back at the hideout.
“I can help you guys in the kitchen.” Kou offered.
“If you’re okay with being put on chopping duty.” Izumi said, gesturing towards a pile of vegetables.
“Nothing easier than that.” Kou announced confidently, and got right to work- after all, who was he to deny a fragile lady the help she needed? The fact that said fragile lady could body slam him and call it a regular Tuesday – yeah, he didn’t want to think too much about that.
He surveyed the stack of ingredients almost filling up the small kitchen area.
“So, you guys are expecting more company?”
“Merry Christmas, Four Eyes!” Ogura said, dropping an impressively large sack on the floor beside him. He stretched out his arms in anticipation of a hug and grinned at all of them: “Santa Ogura is here! Been a while, hasn’t it?”
Tosaki swivelled around to the others, while pointing an accusatory finger at the unexpected house guest: “Who invited him?”
“Come on Yuu, what’s with the hostility?” Ogura argued, having taken off his shoes and stepping foot into the apartment, “Izumi said it’s fine to come over. After all, I’m just in the country for the holidays, visiting my parents. My wife’s staying with them for now.”
Ogura has a wife? Kou mouthed in Kei’s direction, to which the other responded with a shrug and a raised eyebrow, before turning back to the screen.
“Guess I’ll make some tea.” Tosaki sighed, admitting defeat where he saw it and walking off.
“Let me just take your jacket.” Izumi offered. Ogura thanked her, and in taking it off displayed the most hideous Christmas sweater that Kou had seen in a while. Apart from that, the professor looked the most well rested Kou had ever seen him. The bags under his eyes were not as prominent, and he had grown out his hair.
“You should have brought wife with you, Ogura.” Izumi said, eyeing the horridly colourful-with-pompoms ensemble with mild intrigue, “We wouldn’t have minded.” She expertly ignored Tosaki’s snort of derision.
Ogura waved her off. “Eh, I didn’t yet get to completely tell her everything that happened, faked death, broken fingers, taking down an immortal terrorist and all.” he said, as casually as though he were talking about tomorrow’s forecast, “I want to take it one day at a time.”
Izumi nodded. “That probably is for the best.” she said solemnly.
“And besides, I don’t feel like making this a couple’s evening any more than it already is.” Ogura added, “With you guys, and her and me…Don’t want Nagai and Nakano here to feel excluded.”
“We are not a couple!” Tosaki snapped, predictably, while Kou did his best to not dwell on the tiny sting he still felt months later that his – luckily, fading- crush on Izumi really had never been anything but unrequited, “How many damn times do I have to tell you?”
“Well, for that to be believable, maybe Izumi shouldn’t be wearing a cardigan that’s at least two sizes too large, but nice try anyway.” Ogura said airily.
Izumi turned several shades of red. “I…I just like them comfortable.” she said, defensively crossing her arms in front of her chest, “They make them a little larger.” Her voice broke. "And- and fluffy.”
“I see.” Ogura said, with a smug smirk that signalled that he wasn’t buying it.
“Here’s your tea.” Tosaki cut in, placing the tray down on the table with slightly more force than would have been strictly necessary.
“Thank Yuu.” Ogura said, ignoring Tosaki’s vicious glare at the ever-present pun that seemed like it wasn’t dying out any time soon. He turned towards Kei.
“So, Nagai, any decisive thoughts about that summer internship offer I made you?”
“Depends.” Kei said, placing down his laptop for the first time that evening to fixate Ogura with a sudden renewed interest, “Just how interested are you in me and what are you willing to offer? You must know, this is not the only opportunity I’m looking at.”
Kou almost choked on his tea. Whenever he handed in a resume, he was mostly happy that it got read at all. He did know that even for Kei, receiving work experience wasn’t as easy as he made it out to be, with some company’s unspoken prejudice against Ajin remaining a deciding factor in the hiring process even in the present day.
But despite everything, Nagai Kei wasn’t so easily intimidated. It was one of the things that Kou admired about him the most, even if he would never admit to it. And well, having worked with Professor Ogura before had probably further aided his bravery.
Ogura laughed. “I like that confidence, Nagai. Let’s go over the terms, then.”
It was several hours later. The sky outside had already darkened, though snowflakes still fell, rendering the atmosphere incredibly cozy.
The added warmth and comfort of the kotatsu certainly helped with that part.
The food had been delicious, and with presents exchanged and celebrations slowly dwindling down, Kou was closer than ever to a food coma. It had been a great evening, catching up with everyone again. Even Kei had let a smile slip now and then, and had overall been far less moody than Kou was used to. Okay, except for that part right after the main course where Kou, drunk on sake, had placed a Christmas hat on Kei’s IBM.
“But come on, it stuck! It was hilarious and spontaneous! And your IBM didn’t even notice, at first.”
“But it did notice, Kou. And it wasn’t happy. And if I hadn’t reacted fast enough, the next hilariously spontaneous part would have been its claws in my abdomen.”
“Well, wouldn’t that just have been some early med school practice?”
“I’ll show you early med school practice-“
Izumi offered Ogura to stay for the night, so he didn’t have to drive home through the snow, and he accepted almost immediately.
“You guys probably have a futon, right?” Ogura said, as they were discussing night arrangements, “With you and Tosaki in your separate rooms, Nagai and Nakano on the couch-“
“No, actually, we’re going to sleep in Tosaki’s room, right?” Kou said thoughtlessly, and wished he’d kept his mouth shut when he noticed Tosaki’s glare. If only looks could kill…
“Is that so?” Ogura said, with a grin that implied Kou had walked right into his trap, “So, in conclusion, does that mean you will be sleeping in Izumi’s room, Yuu? Now isn’t that a surprise!”
“No comment. And for the last time, stop calling me that.” Tosaki responded through gritted teeth, while Izumi fled to the bathroom with a flimsy excuse.
“You were right, Nakano.” Kei said, stretching his limbs and sighing, “This really is like we never left the hideout.”
Izumi woke up in the middle of the night to insistent pings from her cellphone.
She rolled over to the side, careful not to wake Tosaki, who was a light sleeper in any case, and opened her messages, blinking as her eyes adjusted to the glaring brightness of the screen.
They were from Tanaka Kouji.
Tanaka,  the ex-terrorist, who had been put on probation after a lengthy testimony he had given after being involved with Sato’s forces, the government’s feeble attempt at both indemnification for the trauma he had gone through and a guarantee that he would keep his mouth shut and not pursue further legal action after what had been done to him at the Ajin experimental sites.
Tanaka Kouji, who she hadn’t heard from in months.

Shimomura Izumi: Hello, Tanaka. Merry Christmas. What’s this?
Tanaka Kouji: Merry Christmas. Just click on the link. Please.
And Izumi did.

The recording starts. An old man sits in a chair. There’s a Santa’s hat on his head and an AK-12 on his side. The man smiles with eerie familiarity.
“Ho Ho Ho, Motherfuckers. Did you miss the game?”

Hello Everyone. This is theilustrado, aka Franchesca, a Filipino study and personal blogger based in Texas. Today, I want to share something with everyone.
I finished my 1-year clinical pharmacy program in UIC-Davao. 6 years after passing the Pharmacy board exam and just entirely working in Texas, I was given the opportunity to study clinical pharmacy remotely. Which all of you here on tumblr world knows already.
Nandito parin ako sa Texas pero yung classes ko ay Philippine time. I go to school at 7PM-5AM and then pahinga konti then go to work at 9AM to 7PM as a pharmacy technician turned to Pharmacy Operations Manager (Since I got promoted 3 months ago). That is Including commute and prep time.
Let me just share with you the greatest things I learned working Full time & studying Full time at the same:
You are not alone in this battle. I also have classmates from the USA with full-time jobs, are full-time moms, and wives, and no doubt that there are a lot of ways to get yourself motivated and not fall behind. You share your struggles together. For me, One thing I did was to create a studygram (@studywithfranchesca on IG). That was a way for me to remind myself to do good both in school and work and be with people with the same goals
Tumblr media
Going back to school made me realize I want to teach pharmacy. But of course, I know I can't. In some way, I feel like there is lacking. Not the passion, but the knowledge itself (or should I say, maybe I feel like I can’t deliver). I have posted a sample of my slides during my clinical pharmacy classes which you can see below. I think there's should be an easy way to discuss pathophysiology/pharmacology through visually pleasing presentations, perfect analogies, partnered with relevant animations, and confidence to deliver. I've never done it before pero na-enjoy ko talaga ito. This was an avenue for me to show my creativity (since I'm a frustrated artist Lol). The only problem is, it takes time to finish this. I guess it worked out in the end. But without having to go back to school most especially being with UIC, I won't be able to discover this passion and interest.
(My favorite subjects to create a presentation: Pathophysiology and also pharmacology). - Made a report on Lipid-lowering drugs (Ft. MOA of bile acid sequestrants) and the 2nd picture is the Patho of DM.

Don't be too hard on yourself and your SUPPORT SYSTEM will play a big role in your life's success. Yung frustration to be excellent in both aspects of my life (work and school) is always there. Pero you can only do so much. Ang daming expectations and sometimes I fall short in life (Which I feel allt the time). BUT, remember, our best isn't always consistent. And that’s OKAY!
I learned that you can create a strong bond despite the difference in time, distance, weather, and personal battles -- even if you met virtually. My classmates are from Davao, South and North Cotabato, Cagayan De Oro, Bukidnon, Albay, Manila to Las Vegas, California, New york, Hawaii, Indiana. Ang saya diba. Pwede na kami mag-tour sa iba't-ibang places. And because of that, we have also made a connection almost around the world. 1-year lang kami nagkasama-sama at nagkakilala pero I felt like you've known each other for so long. Section A, Hulog ng langit, the best.
Tumblr media
Salamat UIC-DAVAO! Salamat sa mga professors, salamat sa aking support system (Tito Aboy, Mommy, and Franchette at siyempre kay Conor na sobrang nagtiis at talaga namang nakasuporta). I don't think I can finish this course without them.
I know I'm probably dramatic posting this 1 year lang naman tinapos ko.. But hey! we celebrate big or small victories in life. It's time to be proud of yourself. Online learning isn't easy. This is a special moment for me because I finished school 8,000 miles away from the Philippines, 14 hours time difference, during a pandemic while working in the front lines. This is something you overcome by being mentally, physically, and spiritually strong. Kaya naman, sa lahat din ng estudyanteng nawalan ng wifi, kuryente, self-motivation, or tiwala sa sarili na nakapagtapos ngayong taon while fighting pandemic, Congratulations!
Franchesca Grepo, RPh, CPhT BS Pharm major in Clinical Pharmacy Best in Pharmaceutical Care University of the Immaculate Conception Davao City
PS: Sorry, for now, I won't "break page". thank you for reading until the end. Hehe, thank you to everyone who supported me since the beginning of my clinical pharmacy journey You've seen how I struggled, adjusted, and am close to losing myself especially with stress and lack of sleep. Thank you for your kind words and words of encouragement.

Paperless Student
This semester, my school system is almost entirely paperless. I occasionally jot things down on a Post-It note or scrap piece of paper, but in terms of my day-to-day operations, everything is digital. The one other exception is that I took a paper circuits exam a few weeks ago. In past semesters, I have had a hybrid system consisting of digital notes and problem sets completed on paper. Even during the fully remote fall 2020 semester, I did my work on paper and then used a scanning app to convert it to a pdf. To read some of my other posts about organizational systems, click here.
Being a paperless student isn't for everyone, but has been great for me. The main drawback of a digital system is the increased cost and screen time. To be a paperless student you ideally have a laptop, tablet, and stylus. To read about my specific devices, click here. You may be able to get away with a 2-in-1 device, but it’s suboptimal for remote classes. Specifically, having to split your screen between the Zoom class and a note-taking application would be annoying. In the case of handwritten digital notes, it would be even more difficult as the camera angle would be terrible and you would have no space to write.
Course Materials:
All of my classes have course materials and assignment submissions on Moodle. (Moodle is an open-source learning management system). In addition to resources posted to Moodle, many courses require textbooks. I primarily read textbooks on my iPad. Some are official ebooks with designated apps whereas others are just pdfs. Additionally, one of my classes uses a free online textbook that is read from the browser. You can read about saving money on textbooks here.
Notes:
I take all of my notes in Microsoft OneNote. If you have been reading my blog for a while, you are probably are tired of hearing about OneNote, but you’re not getting an apology from me! One thing I love about digital notetaking is the ease of editing. For instance, I can move things around, erase mistakes, and change ink colors. The other key advantage is that if you keep things organized it’s really easy to look back on old notes from past semesters. Even if you are not super organized the search tool can be a lifesaver. That said, flipping through current notes in a notebook is a slightly smoother process than hunting around for the correct page of a digital notebook. I typically handwrite lecture notes on my iPad and type textbook and other reading notes on my laptop. I also type my lecture notes for my UMass computer science course. (You can read more about Five College registration here). Typed notes make sense for that class because there is a lot of information with important details that are necessary to know for the quizzes. One nice thing about remote classes is the ability to take screenshots of key figures and other diagrams. Actually writing things downplays a key role in remembering what you are learning. Thus it’s important to not become dependent on screenshots. On the other hand, if you are spending all of your time trying to write/draw you are probably not actively engaging with the material in real-time.
Assignments:
In this section, I will be referencing the specific classes I am taking this semester, which you can read about here. For COMPSCI 230, we have online tests and quizzes as well as programming assignments. In other words, it's all digital by default. For CSC 250, I typeset my homework in Overleaf which is a cloud-based LaTeX editor. For EGR 220 and PHY 210, I handwrite assignments in the default notes app on my iPad. I also occasional sketch diagrams for my CSC 250 assignments. Notes is a very bare-bones application but have served me well this semester. You can have lined or graph paper while you write, but once it's exported to a pdf the lines disappear. This hasn’t proved to be a problem but also isn’t ideal. A missing feature is the ability to resize hand-drawn diagrams (and other writing). It also doesn’t clearly mark the end of a page so you do have to play around a bit to export your work into a nice pdf. If you don't mind spending money on apps, I have heard good things about GoodNotes and Notability. For other assignments, I also make use of Google applications such as Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Speaking of Google, Google Drive continues to be my file management system of choice. I use Google Drive to store all of my school work (aside from the notes in OneNote). Furthermore, I designed a whole programming contest using Google Drive which you can read about here.
Tests:
I learned the hard way that tests should not be completed in the default Files app! The pdfs get really large and which can result in syncing and saving issues. Having now transitioned to using the PDF Expert app, I haven’t had any issues. I still prefer the experience of annotating in the Files app, but I no longer trust it for exams. One nice thing with PDF Expert is that it still syncs cleanly with the Files app and thus iCloud.
Time and Task Management:
To round out my digital system, I use Google Calendar, Tascal, and Toggl Track. I use Google Calendar to keep track of all of my events, the associated Zoom links, and deadlines. Tascal is the task management app I built last summer. Finally, Toggl Track is a time tracking application that I have been using since senior year. The data can be useful in helping predict how long an assignment will take, but the main benefit is that it helps me stay focused on the intended task at hand.

The Freedom of Expression Ep 51 - Amazing technology - 'Human with modified skull'
K: Hi this is Dir en grey's Kaoru with this week's  episode of The Freedom of Expression. Joe, Tasai, welcome.
T: And thank you too.
J: Ta-da! We are wearing it.
K: Hahaha
J: We are wearing it. This is naturally cool, isn't it?
T: Yes.
K: Um, if we don't say anything the viewers won't understand.
J: Uh, Tasai, could you explain?
T: Um, so this is another Tokyo Sports T-shirt collaboration. We are putting one out.
K: It was a hoodie before, right?
T: Yes, that was a collaboration with Don Quijote. This time we've collaborated with the store Hardcore Chocolate in Higashinakano, to create this really cool tshirt.
K: I'm wearing it too.
T: Oh, thank you. Its a Core-choco × Tokyo Sports collaboration.
*clapping/cheering*
K: The back is nice too.
J: Yeah, I mean, I can't see it myself though. What is written on it?
T: Its past Tokyo Sports headlines. The black is pro-wrestling headlines, like 'Inoki's grand KO defeat'.....'Hansen...near murder' etc.
J: Wow.
T: These shocking headlines are...
J: All over?
T: Yes, all over it. And as for the front, Joe, could you turn around?
J: Yes.
T: Those are copies of Tokyo Sports tied up with string, just on the verge of being thrown away, giving a kind if melancholic feel.
J: Ahh, this is cool too.
T: Its very Tokyo Sportsy.
K: Are the white and back versions different?
T:  Yes, they are different.
J: Ah! They are different?
K: The white one has 'Matsui' written on it.
T: Matsui's wedding.
J: Oh yeah.
K: This black one says, 'Brody'.
J: Pro-wrestling?
T: Yes, its mainly pro-wrestling. And the white is showbiz...
J: Sports and showbiz? Oh, so it is.
T: 'Elvis lives' and so on.
J: This is great...ah..'The Monster with 21 faces'!
K: Its nostalgic, isn't it?
T: Yeah, this type of thing.
J: Ahh..of course...Ah, shocking photos.
K: 'Discovery of Kappa'....'Madonna had hemorrhoids' haha.
K, J, T: Hahaha.
J: Does it really matter? haha.
T: Haha, that was about one time a long time ago when Madonna came to do a show in Japan. She requested a bidet toilet, so we reckoned maybe its because she had hemorrhoids.
J: Just from that? You put this headline with it?
K: Your info is thin!
T: Haha.
J: Right?! Zero fact checking! Guess after guess!
K: Incredible. So, there are two of these.
J: What should we do with them?
T: Well, I thought we could make them presents for the people who always watch The Freedom of Expression.
J: Ohhh! *claps*
K: There is black and white.
J: One of each?
T: Yes.
K: The size is S.
J: S?
K: Joe is wearing M, I'm wearing XL. Anyone who wants a big one..
J: Please but it.
K: Yes. For people who want S...um, what should we do...you could leave a comment on my Twitter..
T: With your thoughts on this show.
J: Of course.
T: Yes.
K: Yeah.
T: And we could choose one from those.
J: Leave a decent comment..
T: Like which was your favourite episode or something?
J: Ahh, you know how to do this!
K: Joe, its just that you're always drunk.
J: I'm always drunk, haha. When I see Tasai, Im learning how to conduct myself.
T: Excuse me brother, thank you very much.
J: Your stocks will rise with this tshirt. Yours and Tokyo Sports' stocks.
T: I hope so.
K: Everyone will be cool wearing this.
J: They really will be cool.
K: Please buy it, really.
J: If someone wanted to buy this, where do they get it from?
T: Probably online. You can buy it on Corechoco's site.
J: I see.
K: Ok, so today's story is a Tokyo Sports selection.
J: Its a Tokyo Sports day today.
T: A Tokyo Sports produced story...
The headline is 'Will we rise up in 2021? - Amazing technology, human with modified skull'. As for the content of the story, it asks what new technology will appear in the year 2021, and its by our science writer Hisano, who wrote about some of the things he'd heard.
J: Oh, so he's done it properly?
T: Yes. So firstly, well, we hear a lot about this A.I. deepfake problem at the moment, don't we? Like changing faces without permission, and making these made-up sexy images which cause harm, for example. *1
J: Yeah, its the basis of fake news, right?
T: We are hearing about that more and more, thats the first thing. Secondly, there is apparently this idea called, 'Trans-human' where people power up their own body with technology, and Hisano wondered whether Trans-human technology with develop a lot during this year. Specifically, well, there is actually someone doing this in Spain, Manel de Aguas. He peeled back the skin on his head and attatched self-mafe fin shaped devices to his skull. The fins contain a bone conducting oscillator and temperature sensor, so he can tell if the weather is hot or cold through vibrations in his head. So, this is a way to catch very small atmospheric changes that regular people wouldn't normally be able to sense.
J: I see.
T: And there are pictures of him, so please take a look.
J: If you go to the Tokyo Sports website?
T: Yes, you can see it there. Furthermore, well, there are quite a lot of other examples, like a 'trans-human' using prosthetics, or having an IC chip implanted into your hand to use for the train etc. On top of that, France has plans to make a conscription army like this. The name  of the project is 'The Bionic Soldier Project', which is a really cool name. They would be like super strong soldiers who never got tired and didn't need sleep, and who could heighten their sight and hearing with medication, and would have communication equipment embedded in their brains to connect directly to wireless  netwoks. Bionic soldiers..scary, right?
J: Yeah. Its like the end to the era of traditional fighting.
T: Research has been going on even longer America, in their Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, where paralyzed patients have had chips embedded in their brain, and have successfully been able to control drones with their thoughts. They've already done that. Even bedridden people can control drones. Technology his also being developed to go without sleep for 48 hours by running electric currents through the brain. This is not the talk of dreams, we are closing in on these things. There is also a plan by Nasa, a mission to redirect asteroids, where a robot spaceship would grab an asteroid, carry it over to the moon's orbit, and dig up minerals from it. Its like the world of Gundam. What do you think of this for 2021?
J: So, like these might become a reality within this year?
T: Yeah, some of them, as far as the technology goes.
K: It'll be like Robocop.
T: Yeah.
K: Its incredible, its like the world of 'Terminator'.
J: Yeah, it is.
T: In reality, controling a drone with the brain is aleady being used in China with toys.
J: With the brain..?
T: Like, controlling it with your thoughts by just imagining it rising. And in Japan..
J: You have to operate it.
T: In Japan they can be controlled with radio waves *2, but in China they can already move drones around using brain waves. Like, its technologically possible to attatch a bomb to a drone and make it fly somewhere and explode...its scary.
J: If technology advances this far, people won't need to study for exams and stuff, will they?
T: Thats right.
J: With a chip embedded...we talk about preventing cheating these days, but you would have all that data within you, or you could just go outside and remotely update.
K: Or you could send questions with just your eyes and get answers back.
J: Yeah, its like already at the point where you don't have to bother with tests or exams.
K: And it would mean no more back entrance admissions.
T, J: Yeah.
J: Yeah, like whoever has the money.
T: They might starts scanning people with metal detectors when they do exams to see if they have chips or something in them. Like, have you got a chip in your brain?? If it beeps, you'll know they have a chip.
K: They could put the people who have chips inside like anti-vibration shields..
J: Yeah, like to stop the transmissions.
T: Oh, yeah.
J: We're already getting to this point in time.
T: Do we even need to study anymore?
J: Yeah, like the era of people using their brains is ending.
K: We don't even really need universities and stuff anymore
J: We don't! Cause you have have access to all the information in the world in your head, whenever you like.
K:Yeah, if you have it ???*3
J: Well, there's also the issue of whether this kind of thing will be permitted by law. Like how far..
K: Yeah, it wouldn't be allowed immediately.
J: Yeah, like how far can human ability be harnessed in this way. I mean, there is the problem of genetic engineering too, but..thats where we are at now.
K: Well, there might already be people like this out there.
J: Well, yeah, the technology is there already.
K: You don't know whats going on in other peoples' heads.
J: Well, yeah. Eh, what if Kami is one of them?
K: No, I don't think he is. Absolutely not.
J: Haha
Kami: No, gods are different. But the bionic soldiers who don't need sleep, never get tired, and use medication to improve their sight and hearing...they've been around in Nishinari for a long time.
K: In Nishinari?
J: Haha
Kami: People who look like zombies, there have always been tonnes of them. There is also an article about a 'robot girlfriend to go for a walk with you', which Gifu University made, I'm interested  in that. I'd like to support Gifu University with that.
T: I see. Yeah, its a robot girlfriend who holds your hand and goes for walks with you, made by Gifu University.
K: What did Kami say earlier about women, doesn't he have woman trouble?
J: Oh yeah. Kami, don't women like you, being a god?
Kani: Thats a whole different story. Um, this is just a hand holding robot, but I'd like them to try harder with more in-depth research on this.
K: In-depth research? Haha
J: I don't know what he means by that. Kami!!
K: I mean, if they've been able to make the robot to this level, Im pretty sure they can also manage 'in-depth' research. haha.
J: They just won't announce it as university research, they stopped at holding hands.
Kami: Ah, I see. I wanna support deepfake technology too.
K: Ha, you wanna support it.
T: Well, this type of technology was originally invented for mens' pleasure. New technology can even start from such places. Like videos...
K: Ah, yeh, popular people from videos turned up a lot in this erotic stuff (*Sorry if I got this wrong*)
J: Ahh, yes, necessity is the mother of invention. Technology increases due human desires.
T: Yeah, thats it.
J: Well, this could be used for evil ways, or for more interesting ways. There are various ways to use it. Kaoru is there any kind of technology that you ever wanted to invent?
K: That I wanted to invent?
J: Like a specific type of robot or anything like that?
T: If you had a chip in your brain though, and you didn't have to study, what would you do?
K: But if all this stuff becomes normal, I think on the contrary, will might start to want to do things in more detail again. When you can get anything effortlessly, you will start to want to do those things that don't come effortlessly.
J: Ahh, hand made things will become nostalgic.
K: Our sense of value would change. People will want to go out and do things...if you can get everything you need without ever going out. And with food, it will be all there, ready as soon as you open the cupboard, right?
J: Yeah
K: Like, wouldn't you feel like going out instead?
T: Yeah, you'd want to go out and see live performances and stuff too.
K: People were told not to go out on New Years eve, but so many people still went out. haha
T: Oh, yeah.
J: Yep, human mentality just goes like that.
K: People will still go out. So, I think thats the direction it will head.
T: A.I. is pretty popular in human competions at the moment, for example with Shōgi, but in the end, what people really want to see is a human competing with another human.
J: Yes, I think thats true.
K: Yeah, its those natural variations
J: Thats it, we need those. Its that type of thing  that is impossible to calculate.
K: A computer couldn't come up with this type of thing. (*holds up Tokyo Sports tshirt*)
T: Haha
K: Its a product of wild fantasies.
T: Hahaha
J: Yeah, that would be impossible.
T: If we let A.I. do this kind of thing we would have lost. Tokyo Sports would be finished.
K: A.I. couldn't make this.
J: Its incredible.
K: 'Human gives birth to frog'.
J: Haha, A.I. could never write this.
K: It probably couldn't, right?
J: Only some bombed out person could do it otherwise.
K: It was worth making, naturally Tokyo Sports.
T: Oh, thank you.
K: So, everyone, please buy one of these tshirts. We have a black and white in size S here, so please send a tweet. Ok, we'll finish here this week. Please subscribe, thank you very much.
*1, 2 Not sure its exactly right.

[CN] Idle Chat with Gavin
🍒 Warning: This post contains detailed spoilers for a feature which has not been released in English servers! 🍒
The CN server was recently graced with a new feature called 随便聊聊 (“Idle Chat”), where you can select a mood and talk to the love interests about work, life, and studies :>
Tumblr media
Idle Chat with: Kiro / Lucien / Shaw / Victor
[ WORK - Topic 1: Overtime ]
1. Mood: Happy
MC: Yay! I don’t have to work overtime today! Want to have a sumptuous meal together?
Gavin: Good timing. I’m off shift today
Gavin: Apart from eating
Gavin: We can find other things to do.
-
2. Mood: Upset
MC: I’m sorry I’m sorry. I might reach an hour late today. I have to work overtime suddenly to handle something...
Gavin: It’s okay
Gavin: I’ll come over to accompany you during that one hour. That way, you won’t be considered late.
-
3. Mood: Angry
MC: I really don’t want to work overtime any longer. I’ve been sleeping right after getting home for so many consecutive days, and have absolutely no personal time...
Gavin: Have you been sleeping well?
Gavin: Once you’re done with this busy period, let’s go for a long vacation together.
-
[ WORK - Topic 2: Income ]
1. Mood: Happy
MC: I had a shock when I checked the accounts. Without realising it, I’ve saved so much money! It shows that persevering in financial management is very useful!
Gavin: I find it very useful too.
Gavin: When I was young, I’d put my future into a savings box
Gavin: Now, I’ll put my future into our hands.
-
2. Mood: Upset
MC: Why is it always so easy to spend money, but so difficult to earn it
Gavin: Mm, I also wonder about this question...
Gavin: Want to do up a plan to save money together?
-
3. Mood: Angry
MC: Barely ten minutes after being happy about payday, several notification messages for arrears arrived! I shouldn’t have purchased so many things last month!
Gavin: This month, I’ll be your shopping supervisor.
Gavin: If there’s anything you want to buy, let me know.
-
[ WORK - Topic 3: Program Progress ]
1. Mood: Happy
MC: Do you still remember the program I talked to you about before? After persistent hard work, we managed to secure a partnership!
Gavin: I remember
Gavin: Back then, you said you wouldn’t give up
Gavin: I’m also very happy to see that you didn’t give up.
-
2. Mood: Upset
MC: There hasn’t been any progress in the recent program... All inspiration has been expended, and our operations have also been exhausted...
Gavin: Want to go for a short trip with me over the weekend?
Gavin: To refresh your inspiration and motivation.
-
3. Mood: Angry
MC: The data provided by the partner is absurd! If I were to go along with them, nothing would be done!
Gavin: In that case, give them an absurd proposal
Gavin: They’ll know where they’ve gone wrong.
-
[ WORK - Topic 4: Program Results ]
1. Mood: Happy
MC: This program was successfully approved! I think my incredibly~ superb proposal was one of the contributory factors! We can officially start working on it tomorrow!
Gavin: Will you be busy from tomorrow onwards then?
Gavin: If you need to work overtime during this period
Gavin: Remember to call me.
-
2. Mood: Upset
MC: Is the work produced for the other party really okay... Even if it gets approved, there still seems to be something missing
Gavin: The MC I know is a persistent and confident girl
Gavin: No one can deny your accomplishments.
-
3. Mood: Angry
MC: When will the program finally get approved! There are seventeen versions stuffed in my file!!!
Gavin: A senior from the Task Force once told me a technique to examining clues
Gavin: List down the mistakes made in the previous seventeen versions
Gavin: And you’ll have new inspiration.
💙
[ LIFE - Topic 1: Losing Weight ]
1. Mood: Happy
MC: Did you notice anything different about me today? I’ll give you three seconds to think about it! Forget it, I think you might not have been able to see it...
Gavin: Cough, I could tell. You’ve lost weight.
Gavin: But it wasn’t because of what I saw. I used another method to determine it.
-
2. Mood: Upset
MC: Should I reach a compromise with my weight? I’ve been losing weight then gaining weight - it feels like a waste of time.
Gavin: There’s no need to lose weight
Gavin: No matter what, you’ll always be the best-looking in my eyes
Gavin: ...mm, but exercise is still needed.
-
3. Mood: Angry
MC: I shouldn’t have gone for the dinner party yesterday! When I weighed myself today, I really became heavier by 1kg!
Gavin: It shows that you’ve gained 1kg of happiness yesterday
Gavin: Let it get absorbed into your body.
-
[ LIFE - Topic 2: Meals ]
1. Mood: Happy
MC: I accidentally bought too much... I don’t think I need so many vegetables since I’m cooking for myself...
Gavin: In that case, could you leave me a share?
Gavin: I’ll pay for the food expenses
Gavin: Mm, and I’ll also be responsible for washing the dishes and being an assistant.
-
2. Mood: Upset
MC: I bought the snack which is especially popular on the internet. But when I ate it, I didn’t think it was great. Has my taste become disconnected with the masses?
Gavin: Taste is something personal
Gavin: Want to head out together today?
Gavin: We’ll find snacks that you and I both find delicious
-
3. Mood: Angry
MC: I made an absolutely perfect bento for lunch at work, but my hand slipped when taking it out of the microwave and it all fell out!
Gavin: Did you scald your hand?
Gavin: Let’s have dinner together.
Gavin: To make up for the regret of not being able to eat your absolutely perfect bento.
-
[ LIFE - Topic 3: Reading ]
1. Mood: Happy
MC: The science fiction book I read today is really interesting! It’s also especially rich in imagination. I think you’ll like the style as well!
Gavin: All right.
Gavin: But I’ve been busy with missions these days, so I might not have time to read
Gavin: I’ve noted down the name of the book. I’ll tell you my thoughts after reading it.
-
2. Mood: Upset
MC: I was looking for spiritual comfort when I came across a book on philosophy. In the end, I think I’ve become even more perplexed by the world... Have you felt this way too?
Gavin: Mm, there are times I’m perplexed by the world too
Gavin: But once I think about you, I’ll feel calmer.
-
3. Mood: Angry
MC: Today, I borrowed a murder mystery novel from the library. Some unreasonable reader wrote the name of the murderer directly on the first page!!
Gavin: ...
Gavin: That’s really going overboard.
Gavin: Try treating it as backwards reasoning, and observe the process.
-
[ LIFE - Topic 4: Games]
1. Mood: Happy
MC: I’ve finally defeated that difficult boss! I was even thinking that if I failed again, I’d refer to the guide. I didn’t expect to beat it!
Gavin: That level is really difficult
Gavin: I only managed to defeat it after reading the guide
Gavin: You’re very strong - a first-rate gamer.
-
2. Mood: Upset
MC: I think I’ve outgrown the age of game addiction. I just feel like leaving once I go online. I can’t find anything interesting...
Gavin: Maybe you just temporarily lack motivation towards this game
Gavin: Want to try a new game?
Gavin: Minor recommended a multi-player game involving solving riddles
Gavin: I think you should like it.
-
3. Mood: Angry
MC: I met a cheater in the game again! People who ruin the experience of the game are so annoying! It makes me feel like giving up on the game...
Gavin: Report him.
Gavin: People who contravene the rules are being played by the game
Gavin: And not playing the game.
💙
[ SCHOOL - Topic 1: Progress ]
1. Mood: Happy
MC: The method you taught me is really effective! Today, I finally overcame the temptation to slack off, and successfully completed my task!
Gavin: There are many methods
Gavin: You don’t necessarily have to use the one I taught you
Gavin: But if you can get used to it, it shows that you have a lot of potential.
-
2. Mood: Upset
MC: I’d rather doodle on paper or stare into space than look at the textbook... I’m a girl who’s tired of studying T-T
Gavin: It’s already late - don’t force yourself to read the textbook
Gavin: The girl who’s tired of studying should become a girl who sleeps early
Gavin: That way, she can become a diligent girl tomorrow.
-
3. Mood: Angry
MC: There are only ten more days till the end of the course, and my learning progress has just begun...
Gavin: There are still ten days
Gavin: Which means there are 240 hours, 14400 minutes
Gavin: If you look at it this way, there’s still time.
-
[ SCHOOL - Topic 2: Homework ]
1. Mood: Happy
MC: The teacher actually complimented me today. Even though all she said was that my work is neat... I’m still very happy!
Gavin: Even back then, your handwriting was always delicate and neat
Gavin: Just like you as a person.
-
2. Mood: Upset
MC: I can’t help but find excuses to slack off whenever I scan through the questions. I just scanned through five minutes worth of video clips...
Gavin: And now you’ve slacked off by sending me 25 words.
Gavin: Be a little more focused.
-
3. Mood: Angry
MC: Even though there isn’t much homework in each course, when you put them together, it’s basically WAY. TOO. MUCH.
Gavin: When I was in school, I also felt that there was a lot of homework
Gavin: So I would prioritise the easier questions first...
Gavin: It isn’t a special method, but you can try it.
-
[ SCHOOL - Topic 3: Pre-exam Revision ]
1. Mood: Happy
MC: Today, I memorised all the examinable points. Tomorrow, I’ll be entering the battlefield. Everything has been prepared - all I’m missing is a little bit of courage from you!
Gavin: All right, give me your hand.
Gavin: I have a lot of courage,
Gavin: And I can give it all to you, the one stepping into the battlefield tomorrow.
-
2. Mood: Upset
MC: Although I’ve looked through all the examinable points, I still feel unsure and uneasy...
Gavin: Don’t be anxious. Since you’re done with revision, rest early
Gavin: Tomorrow, I’ll send you to the examination venue.
-
3. Mood: Angry
MC: It’s too difficult, it’s way too difficult. I really shouldn’t have registered for this class. I still can’t memorise anything when it’s almost the exam...
Gavin: I’ll bring you out for a ride in a while
Gavin: You can share all your grievances and stress with the wind.
-
[ SCHOOL - Topic 4: Post-exam celebration]
1. Mood: Happy
MC: My exam is over! I’ve been freed! And my results were much better than expected!
Gavin: You know your results immediately?
Gavin: Congratulations
Gavin: I’m outside the exam venue. Sparky and I are waiting for you.
-
2. Mood: Upset
MC: A weight has been lifted off my shoulders since the exam is over. Even though I planned so many celebratory activities, I don’t feel like doing them now...
Gavin: If you don’t have any ideas
Gavin: Leave the planning to me.
Gavin: Wait for me at the entrance of the examination venue. I’ll be there soon.
-
3. Mood: Angry
MC: I’m so angry! I shouldn’t have compared answers with other people! I feel unwell after doing that...
Gavin: Did you get many answers wrong?
Gavin: Since the examination is already over
Gavin: You could alleviate your anger and hunger with me.

Wednesday Night:
NB has a fever of 103.4. Six hours ago it was 102.3 and we gave Motrin. We took him to our local urgent care. They said they are only seeing people with respiratory issues and sent us to another urgent care 15 minutes down the toad. We got to the urgent care and they said they were operating as a “clean clinic” and weren’t seeing anyone who had a fever. They told us to go back to the clinic we had just come from. By the time we got back over there, NB fell asleep in the car, and the clinic was closed. I guess we’ll see what tomorrow brings.
Last week the school liaison officer knocked on our door. I guess now that there is no school, he’s back to being a city cop. We live on a major street in a small town about six blocks from the police station. All of our kids know the officer because we have kids of varying ages who have been through all of the local schools at one point or another. I could not figure out why he was at our house. Turns out, he had been driving on the street and was upset that Baby wa playing outside “unsupervised.” Baby wasn’t doing anything wrong. He wasn’t doing anything unsafe either. The officer was further upset that Baby held a conversation with him. I’m so confused. I thought the whole point of having a cop at school was to build community relationships and teach kids that police are safe people. I’m terrified he’s going to call CPS because he views us as being neglectful so I called NB’s worker and told her what happened. She didn’t care and said the officer was over reacting but I still feel incredibly uneasy about the whole thing.
Thursday:
Took NB to urgent care. It is an ear infection. Antibiotics on board. Very thankful that it’s a quick and easy fix. We still feel bad he has such a high fever, but ibuprofen is keeping it manageable.
My kitchen is still a disaster due to the tile. We are also about to reroof and have our siding replaced. That’s about $30k flying out the door. I’m so nervous about these large chunks of money. I’m grateful that we can have the work done, but basically trust no one. Probably because I don’t have a background in either one of these areas and have no idea if the guy is telling me the truth or not. However, the business has an A+ with the BBB and solid reviews online. We had multiple people bid the project. He was not the lowest, but lower so the cost is fair I’m guessing. We are planning on removing our chimney because we don’t have a fireplace and nothing is vented using it any longer. Eventually we are hoping to remove the entire thing and use the space it is taking up but we’ll see. We are going to do that part ourselves. I think we are going to remove the siding ourselves too. Eek. It seems like a lot.
Next week is the last week of classes for me. I’m so grateful. I’ll then have another week of exams and grading but the end is in sight. It’s so needed as the kids need FT attention right now. I will be glad to have one thing off of my plate and a few weeks to prep for summer school.
A bunch of people at my job got laid off right before Easter. Everyone else will have mandatory furloughs that they will have to take over the course of the academic year. Details are still being worked out. We are struggling to understand if DH will have a job in the fall if school does not resume in a traditional setting.

“This is BULLSHIT.”
Race takes out an earbud and stares, mildly alarmed, at the bathroom door of their suite.  Abruptly, the shower shuts off, despite having been on for all of thirty seconds and a moment later, Spot emerges with a towel wrapped around his waist, shivering hard enough to rival a chihuahua left out in front of a grocery store in the rain.  He looks angry, scowling hard enough to bare his teeth and eyes narrowed in a way that would probably be murderous if he didn’t also look entirely pathetic.
Race quirks an amused eyebrow, “Everything okay?”
“No,” Spot growls, “there’s no fucking hot water.”
Race frowns, “Like, none?”
“Yes, Race,” Now Race can see the goosebumps that line Spot’s arms and notes with faint concern that his lips look a little blue, “None.  Like, it’s fucking Antarctica in that fucking shower.  I feel like Steve Rogers after he crashed that fucking plane into the Arctic.”
“Shit, that’s not good.”
Spot scoffs, giving him a ‘no shit’ look and crosses to his drawer to pull out a pair of sweatpants and a sweatshirt.
“Maybe too many people are using the showers?” Race suggests, “and like, maybe the hot water got all used up.  That happens sometimes at home.”
“Don’t think it works like that,” Spot says, padding back towards the bathroom, “M’pretty sure this place operates more like a hotel, so lack of hot water shouldn’t be an issue.  Can you go let the RA know something’s wrong with the plumbing?”
Race’s stomach drops, face coloring a bit at the thought of talking to Albert, their engineering SLO’s attractive resident’s assistant.  Like Race and Spot, he’s a junior, but this was Race’s first year living in the engineering housing, so he hadn’t seen him around before.  Which was weird considering they should have at least had a freshman seminar together or something of the sort.
But nope.  On upperclassmen move in day, Race was completely blindsided by the pretty redhead coming around to the dorms, introducing himself with a disarmingly charming smile and an overly peppy, “If you ever need anything, I’m in 311b!”
Which was unfair, really, because naturally, Race had to see Albert fairly often at various floor events and as smooth as he’d like to believe he is, Albert made him basically incoherent.
And Spot knows that.
So, fuck Spot.
“Can’t you go tell him?” Race calls, trying not to sound pathetic but missing that mark by miles.
“No!” Spot shouts back, still sounding irritated, “I got class soon, dude, stop being a pussy and go!”
Race groans, steeling himself for a moment before pushing himself up from his desk and crossing towards the door, stopping at the bathroom to yell a quick, “I hate you!” at Spot before exiting and ambling down the hall towards Albert’s single.  The sign outside Albert’s door says that he’s on duty, so he knocks twice and bounces on his toes while he waits, stomach swooping when he hears a, “Just a sec!” from inside the room.
A second later, Albert opens the door, looking relaxed in a pair of running shorts and long sleeved shirt, feet tucked into a fluffy pair of moccasins.  The outfit is stupid and entirely adorable and Race has to forcably log his brain back online.  By the time he’s gotten a grip on himself, he realizes that Albert was saying something and is now looking at him with a mildly concerned and expectant smile on his face.
“Shit, sorry,” Race stammers, “What?”
The easy smile doesn’t drop, but an almost knowing glint flashes through Albert’s eyes, “I just asked what’s up.  Everything okay?”
“Oh,” Race feels himself blush, “Yeah, no, the hot water’s just fucked in our bathroom.  Thought I should let you know.”
“Ah, fuck,” Even disgruntled, Albert looks easy-going.  It’s unfair really.  For someone majoring in astrophysics, Albert always look entirely too relaxed, “Yeah, Mush came to me earlier about that.  I called in a ‘fix-it’ and they said someone should be coming to look at it around 5 o’clock.  Sorry, though.  I know cold showers are fucking awful.”
“Oh, it’s okay,” Race says, “Spot was the one who got the brunt of it, not me.”
“Bet he was thrilled,” Albert says, “Kid’s a ray of sunshine.”
Albert even manages to make biting sarcasm sound entirely welcome.  Race isn’t convinced he doesn’t have super powers or something.
“Yeah, he was super chill about it,” Race plays along, “Kindly asked me to let you know and everything.”
“Mhm, I’m sure.”
There’s a small lapse of silence and Race starts to feel the nerves in his stomach come back, suddenly overwhelmed again by Albert’s alluring nature.  He’s about to turn and leave when Albert opens his door wider.
“You wanna come in for a bit?” He asks, “Was just making some ramen if you’re interested.”
“Oh,” Race’s heart soars for a second before dropping again, “Fuck, I’d love to, but I can’t,” Albert’s face falls a fraction and Race tries not to read too deep into that, “I have to finish studying for that astro 212 exam.”
Albert lights up again, “Oh! I gotta study for that, too.  We can study together?  If you want, I mean.  Like, you totally don’t have to if you, like, study better alone or something, I just thought it might be fun to-”
“Albert,” Race cuts him off, feeling oddly elated to see Albert flustered for once, “No, that’s perfect.  I’d love to eat ramen and study with you, just give me a minute to go grab my notes.”
“Sweet!” Albert says, smiling again, “I’ll keep my door open, so just come on in whenever!”
Race gives him a thumbs up and tries not to run back to his room.  Once he’s inside, it’s a mad dash to grab his things, cursing as he drops his graphing calculator twice.  He doesn’t even notice Spot on the floor, tying his shoes, until he laughs.
“Got a hot study date?” He quips.
“No,” Race says, “Shut up.  RAs aren’t technically allowed to date residents.”
Spot holds up his hands in the universal sign of surrender, “Rules can be bent.”
Race rolls his eyes, rushing back out of the room.
2.
Race fucking hates calculus.  Well, actually, that’s a lie.  He fucking loves calculus.  Numbers have always made sense to him, theorems and equations melding into one beautiful web of logic that always pulled him into a comfortable rhythm.  But right now, surface integrals were fucking him in the ass.
Which is why he’s holed up in the library on a Sunday morning, staving off a wicked hangover and trying not to vomit as he stares dejectedly at his textbook, praying that the words on the page will magically make sense.  Sighing probably too dramatically, he pulls his notebook towards himself and copies down another problem, working through it at a snail’s pace before checking the answer in the back of the book…
...And it’s wrong.  Again.  Fuck.
He groans, dropping his head down and thumping it a few times against the table.  It makes his head hurt worse, so he stops, inwardly reviewing all the ways he’s a fucking dumbass who shouldn’t be in college, because college is hard.
And fuck multivariable calculus.
Just kidding, sorry, Race thinks, I love you, multivar.
“Doing okay?”
Race looks up too fast, groaning again at the movement.  Albert’s hovering across the table from him, backpack slung on his back and iced coffee in hand, an amused smirk resting on his face.  He looks entirely too awake for a 10 am on a Sunday, but then again he wasn’t drinking last night.
“Depends,” Race answers, apparently too hungover to be too affected by Albert’s presence, “Are surface integrals really worth my sweat and tears?”
“For our major, yes,” Albert says, “Mind if I sit?”
Race waves him off, dropping his head back onto the table, “Go ahead.  What’re you doing up so early?”
“Same as you it seems,” Race can hear him taking out his books, “Guess we all got a little behind on calc homework.”
“Guess so,” Race forces himself to sit back up, “I don’t get it.”
“What don’t you get?”
“Any of it,” Race feels his stress start to peak, “I haven’t gotten a single fucking problem right and I’ve been here since fucking 8 and really, I don’t know why I did that to myself, ‘cause I was up ‘til god knows when last night dri-” He cuts off, eyeing Albert warily.
Albert shakes his head, “It’s okay, call me a bad RA, but as long as you all are being safe with it and there are no complaints, do what you want.”
Race nods, “Well, then, yeah.  So, I was up ‘til god knows when and now I’m hungover, but I gotta spend more time on this fucking class so I don’t fail this unit, because I’ve never failed a unit of math before and I don’t wanna start now, because then I’ll fail everything and fail out of college and-”
“Whoa,” Albert reaches across the table and places a hand on Race’s forearm, “Slow down, dude, breathe,” he waits for Race to take a deep breath, “It’s going to be alright, man.  Everyone’s got a bad unit, doesn’t mean you’re gonna fail it all.  Just gotta make a game plan.  I’m decent at this stuff if you want some help? I can’t say I’m as good as a TA or something might be, but I can help you get this assignment done.”
Race takes another deep breath, trying not to focus on Albert’s lingering grip on his arm.  Albert seems to come back to himself though, because he clears his throat, coloring a little as he squeezes Race’s arm and lets go.
“Sorry,” Race says sheepishly, “Didn’t mean to lose it there.”
“Happens to the best of us.”
And there’s Albert again, putting Race at ease with the tone of his voice alone.  Fucking magic, Race swears.
Maybe it’s an RA thing.  They all seem to have that scarily open demeanor.  Race could never.
“You don’t gotta help me, man,” Race says, “I’d feel bad making you-”
“Don’t,” Albert says, smiling.  Jeez, does he ever stop smiling? “You’re not making me do anything, I offered.  Plus, I gotta get this shit done, too.  We’d really just be doing it together.  It’s better practice to go in depth anyway.”
A swell of admiration grips Race and he has to look back down at his notebook to keep from doing something stupid like kiss Albert or something.
“C’mon,” Albert prompts lightly, scooching so he’s next to Race instead of across from him and knocking their knees together.  Race tries not to lean into the touch, “What’s the first problem? 34?”
They work through the math at a steady pace, and with Albert’s instruction (which lacks a certain condescending air that Spot always gets when he tries to help Race out), Race starts to understand the content better.  He’ll still need to go to office hours, probably, but for the moment, he feels less panicked.
By the time they’re finished, their bodies are pressed together from shoulder to thigh, both of them hunched over their work only inches apart.  Race tries not to stare, but he can’t help but notice the way Albert bites his lip and narrows his eyes when he’s focused.  Even with his guard down, he’s magnetic- effortlessly charming.  He must feel Race looking, because he glances up from where he’s completing the final problem.  They’re very close- too close, really and Race can see him flick his gaze down to his lips for a second before locking on his eyes.  In his peripheral, Race can see his ears color.  He’s a blusher, Race has come to realize.  It’s kind of precious.
“Thanks,” Race says, unable to stand the growing tension.
Albert blinks a couple times, eyes clearing, “Yeah, no prob.”
“Like, really, thanks.  I get it more now and I’m infinitely less stressed.”
Albert grins, “I’m really glad.”
It’s quiet for another second, then Race shifts, glancing at his watch and realizing he’s done with homework and it’s not even 1:00 pm yet.
“Shit, what time is it,” Albert asks, leaning in again to look at Race’s watch, “Fuck, I have duty in a half hour, I gotta go.”
Race tries not to feel disappointed at the prospect of Albert leaving, “Yeah, I might try to go back to sleep to be honest.”
Albert laughs, “Good plan, drink water.”
“Will do.”
They pack up in silence and walk out of the library, pausing again when they get back to their hall.
“Obviously fuck math, but I had fun hanging out with you,” Albert says.
Race feels his heartbeat pick up, “I had fun too.”
There’s another pause, this time a little more loaded, then Albert claps him on the shoulder, “Catch those Zs, bro, I’ll see you around.”
“See you.” Race says, waving as Albert begins to head down the hall.
“Don’t forget to eat!”
“I won’t.”
Albert turns around, fixing him with a playfully serious glare, “Promise me, Higgins.  Can’t have any residents sick if I have something to do with it.”
Race laughs, “I promise.”
“Good,” Albert winks and Race feels himself blush down to his chest.
3.
“Albert?”
The situation feels oddly flipped when Race walks into Panera to find Albert slumped at a table, head in his hands and knee bouncing rapidly under the table.  It’s a Tuesday afternoon and Race figured he’d grab his weekly cup of broccoli cheddar soup before english.
Albert lifts his head from his hands and Race feels his concern grow when he notices the red that rims his eyes.  He’s only ever seen Albert cool and collected, but he supposes even freakishly bubbly people have bad days, too.
“Hey, Race,” Albert tries to smile at him, but it falls short, “What’s up? You okay?”
“I’m good,” Race says, “Just grabbing a bite.  What about you?  Are you okay?”
Albert deflates a little, dropping his eyes down to his laptop, “I’m alright.”
“You sure?” Race ventures.  Fuck it, he thinks and sits down, “You’re looking a little stressed.  Is something up?”
He sincerely hopes he isn’t pushing boundaries here, but Albert looks like he needs a friend right now.  Or maybe a shot of really strong tequila.  Or both.
Albert shrugs, letting out a breath.  It sounds shaky and shallow.  He fixes Race with a self-deprecating smile.
“Shouldn’t this be the other way around?”
“Hey, man, just because you’re an RA doesn’t mean you can’t ask for help or some bullshit.  I’m not gonna make you talk to me or anything, that would be shitty, but I’m here for you and so’s everyone else on the floor.  If something’s bothering you, then it’s valid and you deserve support.”
Albert has such a starkly vulnerable look in his eyes that Race almost has to look away.  The corners of his lips are turned down and his eyes are wide and almost pleading and he looks so goddamn defeated and beautiful at the same time and Race really wants to hug him.
Albert’s jaw shifts and he turns his gaze down towards his hands.  His voice cracks a bit when he says, “I’m technically here on a hockey scholarship, right?” Race nods and Albert continues, “And our team is losing national ranking, ‘cause our new coach fucking sucks, so I might lose aspects of that scholarship and my parents can’t pay for my tuition on their own and-” he stops, shaking his head, “I’m scared, I think.  I don’t wanna have to drop out or something.”
Race takes a moment to mull over a good response and reaches across the table, hoping he’s been reading their interactions correctly as he places a hand over Albert’s.  To his relief (and delight) Albert flips his hand so their fingers are laced together.
Race squeezes it encouragingly, “I can’t promise you that everything will be alright and I can’t make you false reassurances, but I bet if you talked to the financial aid office, they could help you figure out a plan?  But throughout all of this, I’m going to be here for you, alright?  Anything you need, just let me know.  If that’s a place to talk shit out, I gotchu, but I’m also here if you just need a friend.  I’m here for you, Al.”
Albert’s looking at him again, that same vulnerable look on his face, but something else is there a well.  Something softer underlying the worry lines on his face.
“Next semester I’m not going to be an RA anymore.” He blurts.
Race blinks, “Alright?”
Albert huffs out a laugh, “Sorry, I mean like,” he shakes himself, starting over, “I like you, Race.”
Race’s stomach jolts, “Wait, really?”
“Yeah,” Albert says slowly.  They’re hands are still linked together and Race can feel Albert’s hand sweating.  Or maybe that’s his.  Fuck, they both seem keyed up.
“Fuck, I mean, Albert, I like you too.  Have since the beginning of the semester,” Race knows he’s talking too fast, but the smile on Albert’s face tells him it doesn’t matter.
“Yeah?” And Albert looks so damn appeased that Race laughs.
“Yeah.”
“So, if I’m not an RA next semester, then we could…”
“You tryna ask me out, Dasilva?” Race asks, a teasing lilt to his tone.
“Eventually, yes I am,” Albert says.
On a whim, Race lifts Albert’s hand to his lips, kissing the knuckles.
“After Winter break, I’m taking you to that thai place in town.”
Albert’s smile takes on a genuinity that Race hasn’t seen before, “I’d like that.”
A month later...
“Feels good to actually be able to, like, do this shit publicly.”
Race leans in, pressing a kiss to Albert’s chin.  They’re in the library, trying to get ahead of their physics homework before it picks up too much.  Technically, they’d gotten together after admitting to liking each other last semester, but they weren’t allowed to have a relationship until Albert was out of his RA position.
“Yeah, that was like some star crossed lovers bullshit,” Albert laughs, “Hiding you in my dorm room and stealing kisses in dark hallways.”
“How romantic,” Race teases.
“I know.”
They kiss for real, both leaning into it.  Race feels Albert grip his arm right above his elbow, rubbing his thumb in circles around his bicep.  In turn, he brushes Albert’s hair behind his ears, tilting his jaw to deepen the kiss.
They pull apart and lean their foreheads together, smiling.
“I’m thinking about becoming an RA next semester,” Race murmurs.
Albert pulls back, looking alarmed until he sees the smirk on Race’s face, “you ass, I actually believed you!”
“Pfft, I wouldn’t do that when we just got this,” Race says, pulling Albert back in and kissing him again, “I like you too much.”
Albert smiles, giddy and exultant, “I like you, too, I think.”
“You think?”
“I know, I think.”
Race swats him, “Be serious and love me.”
They both freeze, the weight of the words they have yet to actually say suddenly hanging in the air.
Albert sobers up, taking Race’s hand, “I do love you.  A lot, actually.”
And really, that’s unfair, because sometimes Race still gets so goddamn enamored by Albert and he can’t really believe he actually likes him back and he can feel his face flushing and oh god, he’s not going to revert back to incoherence is he? Oh god-
“Don’t have an aneurysm,” Albert says, kissing his nose, “I love you.  That’s all.”
When Race smiles, it feels too big for his face, “I love you, too.”
