athens, new york: an island city, all trees and marble, glass and steel and highrises set against an ocean skyline. bustling and loud, crowded, but not without a bizarre sense that it must have sprung up overnight, somehow, when surely it must have always been here, no? on a clear night, you might even be able to see the lights of its more famous cousin, new york city, across the waterβ¦if you squint hard enough. it may not get as much attention as the shiny apple across the hudson, but those not so blinded by the lights must certainly have been coming here for years.
is there something in the water here, too? no one leaves, not in any meaningful way anyway. feels like it has a special way of pulling you back in, if you try.

FC:// LYRICA OKANO
βΎ β¦ βοΌβ© ββββββββββββ Β AESTHETIC :
there is nothing quite like the feeling of knowing your own body, what it is capable of. all your life you've been the mom friend but meaner, ready to bite someone's head off if they don't take care of themselves. you are at your most comfortable in combat boots and ripped jeans - the exterior matches the interior. your days are filled with scribbled down notes like the world's most tragic diary - can't forget, can't afford to.
βΎ β¦ βοΌβ© ββββββββββββ Β BIOGRAPHY:
yumi ishiyama was always the best they could possibly hope to be. or, rather, they tried to be. they strived for good grades and good standing with teachers. they dedicated themself to various sports, picking them up naturally and wearing themself down with practice. but such behavior didnβt make them any friends, until the day they met odd, ulrich, and jeremie. they canβt remember exactly if they pushed their own way into the friend group or if they just pulled them in, but they were inseparable from that point on. their parents werenβt always fond of the boys, but they never said anything too disparaging to their face. they wanted to be a game designer after they graduated, despite their parents pushing for them to become a lawyer or some equally respectable, well-paid, but boring job.
they were only twenty-three when everything in their life turned on its head. lyoko was meant to be an adventure between friends, a chance to explore and have fun without actually leaving too far from their family. a chance to escape after an argument with their parents about them wanting to go to college for design, not pre-law. but then the codes got lost and jumbled and suddenly it was not just a game- it was survival, it was war, it was their own worst nightmare. they clung desperately onto their faith in jeremie like a lifeline, held onto odd and ulrich as their fellow warriors. they nearly got themself thrown into the digital void more times than they likes to recall, nearly cost their friends their lives just as many. they're far more indebted to odd and ulrich than they're sure they realize.
Xana was good at making one let their gaurd down though, especially when it seemed jeremie finally had everything fixed, that they could come home. but instead, they fell into a sub-world, one that looked like home, but glitched in ways that made everything seem unreal, like a bad dream you couldn't wake up from. friendly faces easily slid into roles of enemies, and they had to defend themself, morals be damned. it was surreal when they finally managed to break back through to lyoko itself, a unfamiliar setting far more welcome than the psuedo-reality they were forced into.
lyoko shook them apart, ruining the walls they spent such a long time building up. their parents couldnβt figure out how to interact with their child, who disappeared for two years without warning, only to return a shallow husk of what they once were. the ishiyamas made the only decision they could - offer their oldest child a getaway, a place to restart in hopes new scenery would bring their old yumi back. they allowed yumi to drag her friends along, something that would have at one point been a far harder negotiation point than it was. their father told them to pursue whatever they wanted, that he trusted their judgement. it was something they wanted to hear their whole life, but the words somehow left them feeling hollow. they left for yensid in the middle of the night, a move that felt like they were sneaking away.
yensid provides a strange sense of normalcy to them now; they can cling to the people they care about, no matter how harsh they can be on the surface. they work on character design for games, even have their own private project they work on when they can't sleep. but no one will ever see it; it looks more and more like lyoko with each passing day, and they're not ready for others to see how they cope.
βΎ β¦ βοΌβ© ββββββββββββ Β CONTACTS:
Aelita Schaeffer: a threat, and a friend at once.
Jeremie Belpois, Odd Della Robbia, & Ulrich Stern: friends, family.
βΎ β¦ βοΌβ© ββββββββββββ Β THOUGHTS:
Yumi has had problems with their anxiety since pretty much the day that they were born, though it took them a lot longer to figure out that anxiety was the issue that they were dealing with. On the asteroid, most of their anxiety comes from spats with friends or being too overprotective; their job helps with that, keeping them busy, but it is not a permanent solution.

Paul Hemlock || 32 || Henchman || Echo Creek
""Hercules." Why does that name ring a bell?β
β¨ Biography:
For all of Paulβs life itβs been him and his older brother, Paxton. They were demons born in the Underworld. For as long as he could remember Paxton called the shots. He always did whatever his brother wanted, despite how anxious it would sometimes make him. Over time though he loosened up and went along with things more and more. Paul knew there was a line though and he didnβt cross it as often as Paxton did. The brothers were skilled in shapeshifting and as much as Paxton thrived from it Paul didnβt really care. He used his skills to hide a lot and try and do his own thing. Paxton always seemed to find him though and then they would get into more trouble. Never in a million years did Paul think that would end them up with Harold Belphegor, the King of The Underworld. By some sort of luck Harold offered Paxton a job which secured Paul one as well. They worked for Harold and honestly? Paulβs terrified of the guy. He just does what he says because Paxton got them into this mess. So, when Harold was overthrown and they were sent to live above ground Paul had to follow. Secretly, he was glad. He thought maybe this gave him a chance at a new life, but Paxton dragged him as he blindly followed Harold.Β
There wasnβt much adjusting to to for Paul. It was a new scenery but that didnβt mean a new life. Things fell into place and it felt like normal again. Harold talks about plans to go back to the Underworld and take back the throne. It stresses Paul out, and the jobs that he makes him and Paxton do are awful at times. No matter what Paul is a demon and he has the desire to still chase the high him and his brother used to always get from wreaking havoc in the Underworld. Still, he knows theyβve crossed a lot of lines since coming to Echo Creek and apart of him knows he shouldnβt do it but he canβt stop. Maybe itβs because heβs afraid as well, but itβs caused a lot of inner turmoil about who he is. For now, he does the same thing he does everyday and thatβs do what Paxton and Harold say. Itβs repetitive so heβs trying to do new things away from his brother and make friends. Attempt at a somewhat normal life that doesnβt include the stress of his real life.
β¨Personal:
Species: Demon
Sexuality: Homosexual
Pronouns: He/They
Favorite Song: Overwhelmed by Royal & the Serpent
Big Three: Virgo sun, Cancer moon, Scorpio rising
β¨Connections:
Claude Cogsworth: Paul hooks up with the guy. The thing is the more and more they hook up the more eager they are to see the other man. With each time that passes Paul feels like theyβre starting to develop feelings for the man, yet they canβt stop themselves from seeing him. They fear they are starting to fall for him and donβt know how to stop.
Charlie Cheshire: God, is the guy chaotic. Every time Paul looks in Charlieβs direction he disappears. Itβs an annoying game and Paul is growing tired of it. They humor the guy, but really they just want to sleep with him.Β
Elsa Arendelle:Β They love to mess with her when she makes an appearance. Elsa is mysterious and Paulβs inner demon was telling them to terrorize her. They do wonder if sheβs hiding something though and are curious to find out.

Sometimes i feel like younger queer kids are getting a bit to bold with openly talking to people they donβt know In The Context Of:
More than once i have had a younger/same age queer person come up to me in public settings and say something about βfinding other gaysβ or clearly clocking me as nonbinary and Iβm like :)))))))) hey buddy Iβm here with my conservative parents can you fucking not out me :))))))))
Just say you like my outfit or hair and move on, fuck even tell me you like my shoelaces. Donβt call me gay and limp your wrist at me when you donβt even know me? Especially when thereβs a bunch of ppl around?

I think it's so relatable to see trans women and transfem and generally people who no longer have a testosterone-dominant system describing what it was like to have a testosterone-dominant system. I find that often, when they talk about being angry, depressed, irate, or just irritable, I relate because that was me before I went on testosterone. I was so fucking angry and irate and genuinely unpleasant to exist around because I didn't have testosterone.
See, I think instead of estrogen or testosterone being the "bad, angry" hormone, it's more like... of course trans people who need hormones are going to be unpleasant before getting hormones - both your body and your brain require that you have a certain level of hormone balance. Of course somebody like me was fucking furious all the time, the brain does weird shit when its needs aren't fulfilled!
This isn't about criticizing any one group of trans people, rather, I encourage people to remember that ascribing inherent qualities to certain traits (e.g., saying "estrogen is such a horrible hormone!") isn't necessarily good. It's absolutely fine to talk about personal experiences with pre-transition, I do that all the time! The only issue is bioessentializing hormones, in essence, ascribing inherentness to traits we often share.

So in a way, is there a difference between headcanoning frisk/chara as girls or boys and headcanoning them as trans/nonbinary if it's all headcanon in the end anyway and everyone is equally wrong?
yes there's a difference because arbitrarily deciding that canon established neutrality is something that you get to override and is automatically more "debatable" than a character being established as male or female is a very obvious double standard.
interpreting them as nonbinary is only a way to translate their neutrality while assuming that the rest of their race thinks of gender as we do in real life. it doesn't change anything about how the character is referred to. rather, it preserves it. headcanoning them as a boy or a girl throws aside their neutrality entirely as irrelevant and "arbitrary". for what. YOUR discomfort?
while i might not think the characters in the text itself are trans, this attitude REALLY speaks to people's ignorance and weirdness around trans people in real life. because outside the game, real gender neutral people exist and they ARE, of course, transgender. someone who has gender neutral and nonbinary friends and is normal about it is not going to scramble to immediately fit any neutral characters back into the gender binary like a fucking 5 year old. because for someone who isn't transphobic, neutrality is just another way for human beings to exist.
anyway how many gendered characters are there out there? how many textually neutral ones, to compare? go play with another one of your billions of toys, if not retconning an entire character is sow hawd fow u
tldr: yes. kiss my ass

iβve always found it peculiar how during meeting the chargers cutscene the game just assumes your character automatically understands what krem is talking about when he mentions binding (though, granted, itβs all very unsubtle). like, this is a roleplaying game. what if i want to play a character who just doesnβt get it

βΎ β¦ βοΌβ© ββββββββββββ Β BIOGRAPHY:
(tw: pregnancy complications, minor death mention, near death mention)
.the first ray
She is born to one Susumu Yagami and one Yuuko Yagami. Little sister to one Taichi Yagami. She is frail. She is small. She is weak. She is two months too early when she first enters the world.
Her mother enters labor abruptly, unexpectedly, one midafternoon when the family is out on a picnic. No one foresaw their child coming this soon. The destined day is still months away, yet everyone foresaw the complications of a fetus that had not yet fully developed being born. The sunlight wavers in the delivery room, descending into the evening night. Yuuko holds strong, though there is a sense of fear and trepidation that creeps in.
Her husband and son wait out in the hallway. Taichi, too young to really understand what is happening. Susumu trying to keep a level head.
The moon watches and listens as the nurses and doctors begin the operation. The unborn child too small and fragile to be removed naturally. It is a risky operation, but it is the only option they have.
As the sun rises, they pull the child out. As the sun rises, they realize the child is not breathing.
.the sun rises
Their child is kept in the ICU for a long time, days and weeks longer than Susumu or Yuuko would have liked. Would have wanted. But they could only hope and pray for the betterment and health of their child. That she would recover and she would be able to come back home.
There is a lot of discussions with doctors and specialists. Lots of talks with family and friends to keep themselves sane and rational and hopeful. There are a lot of days of staring at their child through a window. It tests them. It tests them in ways they wished no one has to experience.
Yet, they endure.
As well as their child. Through the tests, the incubations, the multitude of things that no infant needs on their first days, weeks, months of life. They endure. It is a slow, steady progress. Miniscule at first, till the small things pile up into big things and then it becomes obvious that their child is healing.
It takes a long time, but eventually Hikari Yagami does come home.
At long last, Hikari Yagami is able to come home.
.the shining star
She is still sickly growing up, but she perseveres. She is a sweet, humble child that only a parent could dream about having. She adores and preens and constantly uplifts Taichi, because there is no one more admirable than her older brother. Anyone can see how she idolizes Taichi. Itβs cute. Itβs heart-warming.
Until it hurts her and Taichi. Without her even trying to- without her meaning to.
It starts and ends with a game, a simple game. It canβt be helped that she is sick at the time and it canβt be helped that Tai wants to play his favorite sport. So she does what she always does, what she always wants to do- she wants to help him. She wants to make him happy. So she plays the game, even though she shouldnβt.
She really shouldnβt.
Hikari doesnβt realize the full catastrophic risks and neither did Tai. Until she is hospitalized yet again. Pneumonia she hears.
She stays in the hospital again for a few more days, before she is in the clear and she is able to come home. She sees the way her parents are fearful and frustrated, and she sees the way Tai looks apprehensive. She apologizes. Itβs the first thing she tells him, because she is so terribly sorry that she could not kick the ball. That they couldnβt finish the game.
It does not have the effect she wants.
It takes a long, long, long time for the memory to lose its vividness over the years. The sight of her brother crying. It takes her deep in her core, rattling and unnerving. She never forgets it. Hikari doesnβt think she ever will.
.the eternal light
Things change over the years since that core memory. Hikari still goes by Hikari, but now they use different pronouns. Something about it feels better- atleast for the moment. They find some passion in caring and looking after animals. Itβs a driving force, leading them to a career in vet tech. It is an empowering, and humbling experience all the same.
They meet people, make friends. Some lasting a short amount of years, and others Hikari knows will transcend lifetimes. Some people are just other parts of your soul as they say.
They grow taller, older, more mature. Still as sweet and good natured. They grow wiser- having a better understanding of themselves and the world around them.
They hold their secrets closer to their chest. Some memories tainted by darkness and eerie voices. Sometimes haunted by the ghosts of those who wished to see an angel fall. Those times are hard to forget and they follow them to this day. They never spoke a word about it, and maybe it is something they will keep hidden till it is forced out of their lips. Hikari never plans to tell, but maybe life has a way of humbling them further.
Still, despite all the changes, there is one consistency. Something is missing. There is a piece of their soul that they have yet to discover. Hikari has tried to figure it out, tried to find what it is that calls to them. Yet, it stays elusive hiding away from them.
One day, they hope to find them. Whatever missing piece it is. They know once they do, they will finally feel whole. Hikari can finally bask in the light.
βΎ β¦ βοΌβ© ββββββββββββ Β CONTACTS:
Taichi Yagami: brother.
TakeruΒ Takaishi: best friend.
βΎ β¦ βοΌβ© ββββββββββββ Β THOUGHTS:Β
Hikari has always loved animals, and working with them can sometimes feel like a dream come true. There are hard days of course, days where they can't believe that this was something that they chose for themself, but those days are few and far between. More often is the feeling that they are missing something, that they are lost, that they are half full, and they don't know where to find that other half.
