OFMD WEEK 2023

Ahoy there, pirates! OMFD season 2 is right around the corner so I wanted to organize an official OFMD WEEK to celebrate! I’ve tried to come up with some original prompts for each day, and it will run from Sunday, September 24th to Saturday, September 30th right before season 2 drops. Make sure to use the hashtag #OFMDWeek2023 so that we can locate your works and keep it all in one place. I hope many of you are able to participate and support those who do by liking and reblogging their posts, as well as reblogging this to get the word around! I’ll be posting reminders and updates leading up to it. Have fun and get creative with it!!

OFMD Week Prompts:

Day 1 (September 24th): Favourite crew member

Writers: write a fic about a character’s past or origins if they haven’t already been explored in the show. It’s your last chance to cement any headcanons into writing before season 2 adds new info to the mix on your favourite crew member

Gifmakers: freestyle/favourite character’s highlights

Artists: freestyle

Day 2 (September 25th): Music Monday

Writers: you know the drill, it’s song lyric title time!! Use lyrics from songs of your choice to inspire a story

Gifmakers: either use song lyrics from songs of your choice in your gifsets OR use your favourite song feature from season 1 in your gifsets

Artists: draw the crew/characters as your favourite bands or singers! wanna see Ed as Prince? Stede in full ABBA gear? The crew as KISS? Queen? Draw them at the Eras Tour? Get creative with it!

Day 3 (September 26th): Recurring themes/symbols

Writers: put your favourite recurring themes or symbols to action and expand them in a fic

Gifmakers: favourite recurring themes/symbols (i.e. the red handkerchief, the petrified orange, the lighthouse, the teal earring, the kraken, etc.) OR parallels

Artists: incorporate your favourite colour motif or symbol into your artwork

Day 4 (September 27th): Favourite ships

Writers: FLUFF GALORE! Since season 2 will undoubtedly serve us much angst, your mission is to write something as delightful and fluffy as can be for your favourite ships

Gifmakers: favourite ship + best moments from season 1

Artists: similar to the writers, draw your favourite ships, from canon couples to rarepairs, doing something fluffy and domestic

Day 5 (September 28th): AU/Crossover Mania

Writers: write any AUs or crossovers that you would want to see!!

Gifmakers: FREE SPACE - this is a hard one to attempt for gifsets so consider this day your day to post whatever creative, colourful, or fun gifsets you may have planned!

Artists: draw OFMD character(s) in an alternate universe OR crossing paths with another fictional universe entirely 👀

Day 6 (September 29th): Friendship Friday

Writers: prompt is found family or friendship fluff! take the time to explore in writing your favourite on screen (or not yet seen) friendships

Gifmakers: favourite crew moments or friendship moments from season 1

Artists: draw an unlikely duo and a passtime they’d both enjoy (or just any friendship from the show, this one has lots of flexibility to it)

Day 7 (September 30th): Season 2 theories and trailer moments

Writers: this is the last chance to get in any speculation fics!

Gifmakers: favourite moments and looks from the trailer

Artists: draw your predictions or your favourite outfits from the promos

1. First Date

This is a good day for beginnings. Perhaps they're asking each other out instead of actually being on the date. A blind date set up by friends, dating apps. Matchmaking, or meet-cute, or childhood rivals finally trying something new. Restaurants, movies, walks on the beach, arcade something unconventional; this can be sweet or end in disaster!

2. College/Roommates

Whether they've known each other for a long time or just met, whether they're grudging friends or full-on enemies, this is a fabulous pining day! Platonic besties/haters, only one bed, staring at each other in classes-- moodboard the hell out of their shared room and see the difference between their aesthetics! Make them clash in uncomfortable ways and then find the parts that make them work!

3. Exes/Breakup

This is a day for jagged edges and cracked picture frames. A big, explosive fight or a quiet day that ends with what they've seen coming for months, years spent apart, pressure from family, something needed or something wrong. right person wrong time, wrong person wrong everything. Make it dramatic, make it broken, make it red, make it the end or the beginning. This is also a day for second chances.

4. Cowboy

This is a day for fun! Plop them into a Wild West movie as actors, or onto a horse and into your father's barn because somehow you know it ain't the ale he's got a hankering for. They're kids playing pretend and then they grow up and it's not pretend anymore. They're taxed physically and mentally, they're water in each other's desert, this is the worst possible person to be stuck with in the dry heat and dust.

5. Soulmates

There are SO many possibilities for this one. Look up prompts and check them out! Sharing pain, feeling when the other lies, sensory deprivation (colorblind, no music, etc) until they meet, numbers count down until they meet, red/blue string, sharing skies or handwriting, tattoos, matching superpowers, drawings will show up on skin, and so much more! Remember, this doesn't have to be strictly romantic-- mix things up!

6. Artist/Musician

Also included in this prompt is "poet". Keefe is a painter, always having ink or paint splattered on his clothes and hands, colors smeared on his cheek and caught under his fingernails. Tam is a musician and a poet, scribbling lyrics that he will sing with his guitar, or flute, or whatever. They're in a band together, or one is a famous singer that the other styles or writes for, Keefe finds Tam's poetry journal, one teaches piano to the other, anything!

7. Free Day

This is a wonderful day to incorporate your culture and see how that breaks the norms! Make them mermaids and pirates, childhood friends or royalty or vampires. Use nonverbal/sensory overload, death and resurrection, gods or superheroes, mythology or old age, enemies or villains, anything you want.

What is this?

Mungrove Kiss Bingo is a Stranger Things-themed fanwork event focused on the “Billy Hargrove/Eddie Munson” pairing. It’s low-pressure and open to all!

Do I have to sign up?

You do not need to sign-up, as there is only one bingo card for everyone, and it was already posted. All you need to participate is create something to match one or several prompts and post it in the AO3 collection, or on tumblr/twitter and @ and tag the mungrovebingos account so we can see and reblog!  

What is the timeline?

The event will be running from February 14th, 2024 to March 1st, 2024.

What kind of content is accepted?

Everything! You can submit any form of creative fanwork you can think of. We welcome all forms of writings (fanfic, headcanons, poetry, song lyrics, etc.), ‘fanarts’ (traditional art, digital art, photography, knitting, cooking, music, etc.) and works in progress! For example, digital art includes drawings, paintings, gifsets, edits, fanmixes… Everything you can think of.

Do you accept late submissions?

We will accept late submissions until March 8th, 2024.

Which platforms are allowed?

You can post anywhere you want; we accept submissions to the AO3 collection and will be reblogging on Tumblr and retweeting on Twitter. If you wish to post something on other platforms such as Instagram or else, you can ask the mungrovebingos tumblr to post a link to your creation on your behalf. We also accept anonymous contributions on AO3 and Tumblr.

Is NSFW/E-rated content allowed?

Yes, adults can create NSFW content—but remember everything must be tagged appropriately! We allow NSFW, E-rated and 18+ content. If you’re wondering about specific warnings (such as non-con, underage, major character death, “dead dove: do not eat”, etc.) please check out the rules below!

What are the specifics concerning the AO3 collection?

The Collection will be open on February 14th, 2024.

Do we have to fit every square in one work?

No, you can use several prompts for one work, or one prompt per work, it’s all up to you!

Rules

1. Any type of content should be mainly focused on the Billy/Eddie pairing.

That said—other pairings are allowed, as long as Mungrove is the focus. For example: you can have Max/Lucas as a secondary pairing. Mentions of past or relationships are obviously allowed, but “Billy/Eddie/[character]” ships such as Harringroveson (Billy/Eddie/Steve) aren’t meant to be a part of this event. We obviously won’t hunt you and take you down with a sniper if the fic you write (for example) mentions this ship, but it has to be focused on Billy and Eddie.

2. No explicit situations of characters under 16 are allowed.

Explicit situations include extremely violent or sexual situations. If you are unsure whether your content is considered explicit or not, you can send an ask to the Mungrove tumblr (you do not need a tumblr account). If the characters are above 16, everything else is allowed (dark themes, smut, etc…) as long as you follow rule #4.

3. No bashing allowed.

“Spite” content must be restricted to spite against Canon or anything considered Stranger Things in-universe. We discourage bashing against characters. Being critical isn’t bashing! Portraying Neil as a bigoted, violent man isn’t bashing considering how he behaves in the show and there is such a thing as an unreliable narrator (Example: Billy thinking Everything Is Max’s Fault) and that is more than fine, but a heavy focus on making a character much worse than he actually is to create spite content against another ship for example is heavily discouraged (Example: turning Steve into some kind of awful evil ex as a fuck you to Steddie, Harringrove or Harringroveson shippers is prohibited, there is no need for such things).

4. Content must always be tagged appropriately.

No matter what platform you post on, tag your content appropriately and follow the platform’s etiquette. For example: if you post NSFW Mungrove art featuring choking on a non-explictly NSFW Twitter account, mark your content as sensitive and add “choking” to your tweet—so that people can be appropriately warned. If you post Mungrove headcanons on Tumblr featuring Child Abuse, either warn about it in your post or by using the tagging system. If you post on AO3, you must use the appropriate rating, the Archive Warnings whenever necessary, and either tag trigger warnings with canonical tags or list them in the author’s notes. If you use the Choose Not To Use Archive Warnings for surprises and/or twists, tag major trigger warnings in the end notes. For example: if you post a Soundcloud song with lyrics containing Major Character Death and Torture; add “torture and mcd” to your end notes as content warning if you decided to pick Choose Not To Use Archive Warnings on AO3.

WELCOME TO MBSGIFS’S HIGHLIGHT MBS WEEK.

In honor of season 2 being announced, here’s a little event to channel all that excitement! The actual week itself will be the week before the first episode of season 2 is released, so you should have some time beforehand to work on your projects!

This is a challenge for gifset creators, editors, and artists in the MBS fandom. (Although due to the nature of this blog, there is a focus on gifsets, particularly for the TV series, in the prompts.)

One week, each day highlighting a different aspect of the series. (While the focus is on the TV series, content for the books is also welcome!)

The rules are simple!

1. Tag #highlightsmbs and/or #usermbs if you’d like your creation to be reblogged to this blog, and caption it with the event name and the day/prompt.

2. Remember, while each day is the target for posting your creations, you can post them as late as you want, and take your time. No pressure! This is a fun event.

3. Ultimately, all prompts are up to interpretation! The blurbs under each are little suggestions, but just consider highlighting the one-word prompt for each day.

5. No inappropriate or bigoted content/users will be tolerated. Harassment, bullying, and plagiarism will also not be tolerated. This is unlikely to be a problem, but is best left spelled out clearly.

6. Try to have fun! Don't stress out or make this extra work for yourself. We're celebrating!*

THE CHALLENGE:

Day One (OCTOBER 16TH): Character.

Pick a character to highlight! This could just be your favorite character, or you can come up with another pithy epithet: biggest loser, prettiest character, most relatable character, character most likely to wake up in jail... get as creative or as classic as you like! Just pick one and have fun.

Day Two (OCTOBER 17TH): Relationship.

Pick a relationship dynamic (platonic, romantic, or somewhere in between!) to highlight. (Please know that absolutely no inc*st or adult/minor ships will be tolerated.) Once again, you can get creative with a crackship or just highlight your absolute favorite friendship, familial relationship, or rarepair. Is it two people? Four? Doesn’t matter! Draw them together, make a gifset, or whatever other creative endeavor.

Day Three (OCTOBER 18TH): Episode/Book.

Pick an episode or book to highlight. You could create an edit for your favorite book, or a gifset highlighting your favorite moments in an episode. You could also make an artistic piece encompassing your favorite moment or elements of an episode/book.

Day Four (OCTOBER 19TH): Setting/Scenery.

Pick your favorite setting (LIVE itself? the Whispering Gallery? The house? Mr. Benedict’s study? The cabin? The tetherball courts? The island shoreline? Curtain’s office?) to highlight. Is it because it’s pretty? Because of the events that happen there? Up to you!

Day Five (OCTOBER 20TH): Outfit.

Pick an outfit to highlight—from Miss Perumal’s lavender coat, Number Two’s pencil outfit, or Mr. Benedict’s iconic green plaid suit in the books or his emdearing bucket hat in the show, you can pick any outfit, whether you’d like to steal it for your own closet or you just think it makes that character look great!    

Day Six (OCTOBER 21ST): Quote.

Pick a quote that speaks to you. Is it a serious quote, or a funny one? An iconic one, or underrated? Consider playing with typography, calligraphy, and fonts, too! If you're having trouble with this, you could also do Lyrics: is there a song that just really speaks to you and fits a character well? Why not apply it!

Day Seven (OCTOBER 22ND): Colors.

Experiment with colors! Maybe choose a character and a color you feel suits them, or color symbolism, or challenge yourself to create something in only one or two colors.

Bonus Day (OCTOBER 23RD): Trailer.

Gif something from the s2 trailer (or any other s2 promo content we might get between now and then)! Comparisons, your favorite character, what you’re most excited about, etc.

I've been thinking about this for the whole year and then i almost forgot but we're going Clato fanworks week again :)) essentially last year i came up with song lyric prompts and a set time for the event and a couple of people wrote fics and it got me writing so it was great and we're doing it again, except i didn't remember to do it soon enough so now the dates won't be set and it's a free for all

Clato Fanworks Week 2022

date: any 5 days in September (u can also do less obviously)

basic info: There are five lyrics from different songs based on which content is to be made. You can incorporate the lyrics in your work in any way, or just take thematic inspiration from them. Any and all type of fanwork is welcome - fanfics, moodboards, fanart, playlists, gifsets, edits ... Be creative:) You can do the whole week, or just a few days, even just one day is fine. Tag your works with #clatofanworksweek2022 and tag me (@a-chaotic-ananas ) so i can reblog your works.

♡ prompt explanations ♡

day 1 - colors

“colors” means, in some way, utilizing some sort of color in your work. this could be the colors of the lesbian flag, or a gifset of chris with a pink hue, or even chris and ginny drawn as women of color! it’s really up to you. color can be a beautiful way to express oneself, as well as having its own meaning, depending on the color. for example, the color violet has symbolized lesbian love because of sappho (possibly) using violets in her poems to women -- this color could be used to denote lesbian chris and ginny headcanons. 

day 2 - music

music is just organized sound and silence, and thus could encompass many different sounds, as well as any song of your choice. this prompt, in its most literal form, could inspire a video edit to a certain song, but also means using lyrics (even if just as a fic title) and music note imagery. it’s really up to you!

day 3 - happiness

what makes ginny happy? what makes chris happy? do they bring each other joy? consider these when making content. you could write about theater (one of ginny’s hobbies, which she loves), or perhaps cheerleading (which we’ve seen chris absolutely shining in). you could also create something where they’re doing a loving activity together -- this could be cuddling, nature walks, baking, playing sports, whatever else! on a slightly depressing note, you could also explore the absence of happiness. think: your favorite angst trope. this doesn’t have to be with a happy ending, although it could have one if you like.

day 4 - time

this could be as simple as chris and ginny spending time with each other, to something as far-fetched as time travel. perhaps you could showcase how their love evolves throughout the decades? or, maybe, one of them is running out of time, and they’re trying to make the best of it? you could show them as little kids, or old women, or a married couple reminiscing on memories. you could even write a “5 times ginny and chris almost kissed + 1 time they did” type fic, simply because of the word “time” in the title!

day 5 - celebration

do chris and ginny celebrate any holidays? do they celebrate their first kiss anniversary, or their engagement anniversary, or anything like that? they could celebrate their child’s birthday as wives with a family, or in a modern AU, they could celebrate pride freely out on their city streets. a post-wedding celebration with all of their friends is definitely in the picture as well. go wild! feel free to include your own religious celebrations (if you have any), and headcanon chris or ginny to observe them. 

day 6 - separate

this one has SO much potential to be angsty -- did ginny and chris go through a bad breakup in their college years? or, on a somewhat happier note, did chris finally split up with knox to be with ginny? if you’re not too keen on writing a breakup of any sort, you could write about the characters themselves, separately. take some screenshots of ginny. draw chris surrounded by things you think she’d love. write a 100 word character study on either of them. explore their emotions, their interests, their friendships with other people, etc. 

day 7 - together

“together” means so many different things. do you headcanon chris and ginny to break the boundaries of allonormativity by being together queerplatonically? do you imagine them as an old married couple who are happiest when they’re together in the same room? you could write down your favorite headcanons on how and when chris and ginny got together (or write it as a fic!). you could also make a gifset of that one deleted scene where they’re talking and exchanging glances. what does them being together mean to you? how do they express that they’re together, publically or otherwise?

prompt #4: it's okay if you can't catch your breath, you can take the oxygen straight out of my own chest. (two by sleeping at last)

She's aware enough, through the torrential downpour of her tears, to recognize that Maya isn't breathing. That the gentle rise and fall of Maya's chest that she's come to associate with safety and comfort and home has ceased moving, going still beneath her fingertips.

She wants to scream when she realizes. Wants to rip herself free of the skin that suddenly feels too tight, escape from the body that now feels like a noose, trapping her here in a world that Maya doesn't currently inhabit.

Instead, years of training kicks in, her hands setting to work of their own accord while her brain is still struggling to catch up. Her fingers lace together above Maya's sternum, elbows locking, the muscle memory of performing CPR taking control.

When she leans down to press her mouth over Maya's, to fill Maya's lungs with her very own breath, she tries not to remember the last time they kissed. Tries not to lose herself completely in the memory of Maya's fingers in her hair, of Maya's touch so alive and so present and so suddenly gone.

She watches as Maya's chest inflates, pleading with the universe for just one more second - one more moment for them to be together. "Per favore," she whispers, "Non ancora."

Please. Don't take her just yet.

This week long mini fest is a Prompt Quest! There will be an overall, general theme to stick to, and then 7 Prompts (one for each day) will be provided centering around the theme, for you to use in your fanworks!

You do not have to participate everyday, if a particular prompt does not resonate with you! If you wish to make a fanwork for each day, that is spectacular and we cannot wait to see what you do! If you only want to do a few days, or even just one, that is still great and we can't wait to see what you do! You writers could even take all of the dialogue prompts and work them into one work if you're feeling up to a challenge! 😉

Minimum Requirements

We aren't very picky here at the guild, but we do ask that your fanworks meet these minimums before you turn them in, and post them to the collection if you use Ao3!

Fanfiction: 500 words minimum (no maxiumum!)

Artwork: 1 completed work minimum (when it comes to completed, we trust that whatever you create you believe is complete. That means that works do not have to have color or anything special. Whatever you believe is complete is good for us!)

Gifsets: 1 gifset containing 3 gifs minimum

Edits: 15 second minimum

Podfics: 5 minute minimum (with permission from writer, or clarification if you wrote the fic & recorded the podfic!)

21 Favorite Creations of 2021

I was tagged by @deanncastiel and @becauseofthebowties to post my favorite or most popular creation for every month in 2021, but I had already started this list so I’m going to mash the two together. So in no particular order, here are my favorite creations of 2021:

#parallelsnatural (gifset): My OTPs. These were basically the exact same scene.

Season Gr8 (gifset): This was a Make Me Choose request and it’s still, to this day, one of my favorite general sets. 

Sure, John (edit): The edit that launched a thousand ships, as I like to call it. One of my first creations on this site and the one that really got me into the Supernatural fandom.

Dean Flirting with Cas (gifset): Oh, Dean. Honey. You ain’t subtle. And compiling these all back-to-back really made it that much more apparent. I love him, but he’s an idiot.

Destiel + Romance Arc Tropes (gifset): This is a lot different from the edits I normally do, and I had a blast making it.

The Gang Learns About Angel-Killing Bullets (gifset): When you try to break up your Supernatural viewing with It’s Always Sunny.

Destiel + The End (gifset): Loved my coloring on this set and no matter how hard I try I can’t seem to replicate it. 

TFW Takes a Case in Schitt’s Creek (gifset): Basically what my brand is all about. I only wish this could have happened irl.

Heartbreaker, Cosplayer also known as Dollynatural Part III (amv): Out of all my Dollynatural amvs, this one was by far my favorite to create (9 to 5 loses points because compiling all those clips was a PAIN). And—I mean—who doesn’t love Dean and his silly little outfits?

You Have Fallen in Every Way Imaginable (gifset): What is there to say about Castiel’s arc that hasn’t already been said. Loved creating this and playing around with different coloring than I normally do.

Kiss and Make Up (fic): My first fic! Had a ton of fun writing this.

Arcade (amv): As soon as I heard this song I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I think making this caused me permanent brain damage but I really like how if turned out. 

Four Times Dean Didn’t Meet Cas + One Time He Did (gifset): Lazarus Rising supremacy. 

Playing Dress-up in Cars with Boys (gifset): We love a good parallel.

Alexis Rose (gifset): This got very little traction but I loved making this set for one of my favorite characters. Extremely proud of my coloring on this as well.

Dean Reacting to Cowboys (gifset): I love him I love him I love him.

Destiel + First Class (gifset): My first lyric set! 

#gifyourhuckleberry (gifset): How I was first introduced to the #cowboycoven, who graciously brought me into the fold when I made this set thinking it was just a general fandom event 😅absolutely no regrets.

Slow Burn (gifset): I had a lot of fun with the overlays and fonts on this one.

10x22 (gifset): I loved this poem by @bestiarum so much that I made a set for part of it. I love how it came out.

How Mercurial is Life (fic): After months of writing and rewriting, I finally took the leap and started posting my crossover fic! I’m only 3 chapters into this but it continues to be a true labor of love. Can’t wait to see where it goes.
