Atsushi and Junichiro are each others emotional support people and they're always lowkey cuddling. Maybe they're not even romantic, just both incredibly touchy and bonded through trauma at the agency and being the same age.

TaniAtsu/AtsuZaki do casual intimacy and have unresolved romantic tension, but Tanizaki is too nervous about defining their relationship, and Atsushi convinced himself they’re “just friends”, up until the end of Guild arc, where they get into their first fight as a not-couple due to Tanizaki finding out about the Q thing with Naomi.

Tanizaki, being the type who’s more emotional than rational, is inconsolably enraged for all of 24 hours, in which Atsushi is devastated thinking their relationship is done for, and that he’s lost his first friend (that’s the same age as him). As a result, Atsushi faces the facts and realizes that he’s in love, and decides that at the very least he wants to tell Tanizaki how he feels (with a bit of a pep talk from Kyouka probably)

Meanwhile, Tanizaki, who is the type who’s anger burns bright and fast, wakes up going “oh god I have no idea what came over me” and rushes to apologize to Atsushi. He shows up at Atsushi’s dorm room. In true shoujo cliche style, just as he’s about to knock, Atsushi swings the door open, and then they’re gaping at each other like goldfish and stumbling over what they wanted to say to each other.

After some mutual awkwardness, they agree to be boyfriends. And that’s the story of TaniAtsu get together.

you know i think my biggest agenda as far as fanon & aus go has to be partyboy tanizaki. look at him. he's so unassuming you know he has something going on. once he was at a bar for a case with dazai (one of the scenes in the bonus story in untold origins) and kunikida lectured him about it and he was so startled. but i think my guy gets around. you want to party? he knows a guy. swears up and down that he's never ingested alcohol underage before but can drink atsushi under the table. how he does this is never explained because atsushi literally has regenerative tiger powers. taught atsushi how to apply waterline eyeliner because you have to dress right for a party. every time he comes into work hungover he brings ranpo donuts so that ranpo doesn't snitch.

Heyo! You said in the notes of a post that you kinda wanted to stop discussing discourse and go back to talking about sskk headcanons, so, uh, tadaa!

This isn't entirely a sskk hc but it sorta counts! As a Taniatsu are besties believer I like to imagine that Atsushi would often rant to Junichirou about Akutagawa before they started dating. Basically just a whole bunch of

"Yeah I hate his eyes, they're so beautiful and mesmerizing and it clashes horribly with his butt ugly personality. I can't stop thinking about them and it's annoying."

"I'm sorry, his eyes are what now?"

"Annoying."

"Ah, right, got it. That's what we're focusing on."

Or something like that. After a while Junichirou completely loses any and all fear he once had for Aku, he just looks at him and thinks, 'yeah I guess his hair does look kinda fluffy, and he does a slightly grabbable looking waist from certain angles.' And is just constantly looking at him trying to justify the hours Atsushi has spent complaining about the guy that he says he hates but so, so obviously has a crush on.

Not sure if it's entirely in character but I like the idea of it. By the way, Aku is doing the exact same thing but he's talking to Rashomon instead of an actual person, and even though Rashomon is only like half sentient she is just as done with Aku's bullshit as Juni is.

UHM. I LOVE THIS, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SENDING IT. Zero self-awareness Atsushi gives me life, I swear he can be even worse than Akutagawa on that front. I also love how Junichirou kinda lets himself get carried away ahah, that's so him. Overall, strong chapter 53 vibes “Ugh. I hate working with that dude. We just don't get along on a fundamental level” [said right after having entrusted each other with their deepest fears, revealed the most vulnerable to each other, defeated enemies as if they were thinking as one]
