wasn't gonna show this off til it's done but my friend said i look buff in the first pic. so uh. *stares at keyboard for like five minutes* anyway yah i designed the basic idea behind this a while back - i love snakes and mushrooms and also rot and decay. and nastursiums:3 - then was recommended a super cool, queer tattoo artist who's been making it a thousand times cooler. Still have 2 or 3 more sessions to go (gonna be more guts in snake, more shading/stippling, plus bg from elbow down is gonna be solid black) but am Very Happy so far and so very excited to finally have a sleeve

side note: if you're wondering What About Top Surgery??? Paying for this tattoo isn't offsetting my progress toward that. Tattoos aren't cheap (the artist has actually been giving me a lil discount cuz i'm friend of a friend and also they just. are rad af and go easy on queer folks) but it's not coming out of my funds for the surgery<3

To make a very long story short, I was involved in a car accident one year ago and had my savings obliterated due to replacement parts for my vehicle taking 10 months to arrive and my work requiring me to drive. I thought a couple of months ago when my car was finally repaired I was in the clear, and then my car insurance bill came due and oh boy looks like I might not be making rent for October. I've taken everything but the minimum coverage off my car and am looking into selling my car and getting something older/cheaper but that takes time and bills are now.

So you, my beloved Tumblr, are getting a deal in hopes I can scratch up some scratch quickly here! I am offering the following commissions:

Prices are in USD. Please contact me via email at spaceturra@gmail.com as it's much easier to keep track of everything that way than our beloved/beloathed tumblr messenger. I use PayPal invoicing - you don't need a paypal account, just an email I can send it to for you to choose your payment method of choice.

All commissions will be a colored sketch that are at least waist up - unless a preference for portrait (shoulders up) is specified. Unlike my usual commission method I will not be offering revisions or tweaks as time is of the essence (unless I miss something in the references given) - you will receive a final piece to do with as you please. Prices are based on time taken - fan art pieces will be rougher than character art pieces.

This deal will run until the end of October, but as I am also working my regular job getting all of the pieces done might run into November. I might end things earlier if I get enough commissions in to cover my shortfall so everyone can get some art in a timely fashion.

SUMMARY

An anti-establishment retelling of the fall of Icarus.

Ten years. Ten years of solitude, of surviving, of hiding. It has been ten long years of navigating the world alone, of planning how he would exact his revenge on those who have wronged him once he gets the chance.

A chance he has yet to receive. He's just one man, one cast out kid. How can he expect to go against a corporation as large as ATLAS alone?

Διαφθορά is a tragic continuation of Δάιος, following Icarus as he and his dysfunctional found family lay the groundwork for a revolution. It seems like everything is going in his favor so far, even as the appearance of his sunshine throws him off-kilter. Will that continue as protests rise up throughout the country in his name?

MAIN CHARACTERS (BY THEIR CODE NAME)

Icarus (he/they) - We all know Icky baby, he is the man we see the story through the eyes of! Icarus is a chronically exhausted autistic trans man with a caffeine addiction and anger issues. (i suppose he's babygirl too idk)

Apollon (he/him) - I guess he's the love interest for Icarus but he's best known as my beloathed. Apollon is the #2 Elysian just two years after his debut! He is a childhood friend/lover? of Icarus' and perpetual pain in his ass.

Andromeda (they/them) - Our mama bear. Andromeda may share the same name as me, but they are not based on me. Rather, they are heavily based on a good friend of mine. Meda is the oldest, they take care of the group and make sure that everyone comes back alive and well. They don't specialize in fighting, but in healing. Particularly herbal and natural remedies (remember, lavender for anxiety and antibiotics for a fucking infection)

Achilles (he/him) - Another childhood friend of Icarus. He is Icarus' adopted little brother and right hand man.

Thanatos (he/him) - The information broker of the group. He specializes in getting what he needs to get and doing so discreetly, a huge benefit for Icarus' group. He is gender non-conforming and is a lovely person to be around, so long as your name isn't Icarus.

The Elysians - The figureheads of the government. They basically have free reign to enforce the laws of the land. The most notable of the Elysians are Daedalus (#1 rank), Nyx (not ranked, she operates out of sight), Casseopeia (former #2 rank), Prometheus (#5), and Thetis (#9). Each of them specializes in different fighting styles based on their mythological code name.

I always wanted to read the shatter me series but those covers keep pushing me away. 😭

they are certainly unique covers (imagine me cover my beloathed). I enjoyed Shatter Me as a teen; now I have... questions and complaints about it. but I also believe there's a reader for every book, and many people genuinely enjoy these. some non-spoiler thoughts incoming:

imo, you're most likely to enjoy Shatter Me if you have realistic expectations of its genre. while it's advertised as dystopian YA, it lacks the strong worldbuilding & themes that we expect from good dystopia (not to mention that the resolution is nonsensical from a worldbuilding & political perspective. again, imo!). so if you're expecting good dystopia, your reading experience might be a bit rough.

in truth, Shatter Me is like the dystopian equivalent of romantasy—in a way, it was ahead of its time (which is my theory about why it's recently experienced a resurgence in popularity!). the plot and worldbuilding are designed to push two characters together & create an interesting dynamic/story between them. because of that, if you isolate the plot and worldbuilding on their own, they make... not a lot of sense. but if you understand (to take an example from the first book, so it's not too spoilery) that Warner belongs to an authoritarian government system as a way to create internal conflict and make him a Morally Grey Sad Boi, then the system doesn't have to make sense so long as it serves the relationship. if you understand that Juliette has powers as a way to semi-heavy-handedly communicate some metaphors about trauma and agency, then you don't have to think about the larger implications of a world populated by people who are as, if not more, powerful than her—you just have to understand how it drives her interiority and her relationships with the two romantic interests.

I don't mean to sound harsh with any of this. while it's been years since I read the series, I still remember the dynamic between the romantic leads. it was compelling! I mostly enjoyed it! but the reason I never picked up the new books (SM was originally written as a trilogy, then expanded into a longer series, which is... a whole different gripe I have) is because they promised to dive more into the world & its politics, and I just didn't trust that any of it would hold up under scrutiny. and from what I've heard of the new books... yeah, that seems to be the prevailing issue.

you might enjoy Shatter Me if you're looking for dystopian-flavored romance. the love interest is hot, he's morally grey, he's got tattoos (shakespeare, anyone?), and he simps for the main girl, so if that's your taste, yk? and the writing style is definitely more experimental than most YA—it's emotional, highly metaphorical, and at times even stream-of-consciousness—which I can appreciate despite it being too flowery and melodramatic for my personal taste. I genuinely don't judge anyone who enjoys the series, I just think we need to be realistic about how we recommend it.

Ooh what tattoo?

i’ve wanted a tattoo with lyrics from Answers for a while! It’s a song that comforted me after my parents divorce, as well as a bunch of other hurdles. I’m indecisive, which is my problem- i have a few lyrics that I like a lot. I think the phrase that stands out to me above the rest are “answer together,” but i want to be absolutely certain before getting inked!

beyond that, i’d like to get the Azem symbol, or the Astrologian symbol. Again- uncertainty, my beloathed.

I have considered a few other tattoos from other media, though i’m not too certain about those. I’d want to wait a few more years, i think. But I’ve always loved otome games, and Mystic Messenger is one that I’ve loved for… god, 7 years now? I’ve loved it since it’s release haha. I’ve always thought getting a little envelope to represent that would be really cute!

I’ve also bounced around the ideas of doing tattoos based off my characters. For Aki, I’d do the moon- general enough that it’s applicable for any universe I put her in. For Leo, I’d get the sun- it would go near Aki’s! And, to complete it, I’d get a star for Cassiopeia, if not the actual constellation she’s named after.

I’ve always loved the idea of getting tattoos- I just live in a very, very mormon area. I already get crazy looks for my dyed and buzzed hair and piercings… I’m uncertain that I’m quite ready to get even more looks for being inked haha. But, it will happen one day!
