I feel like so much of the show is the writers holding the characters hostage to ideas and ghosts of who they once were in high school. And the fan base adapted to that. That the real Blair is the scheming vindictive one and if u don’t believe that then u don’t like her. Like it’s not a crime to want a character to be better and actually show a case of development. Idk how so many fans watched the characters sabotage themselves and learn the same mistakes and repeat. It’s exhausting.

agreed, but also, to me it feels very chicken & egg!! there are definitely sections of fandom who didn’t want characters to grow beyond who they were, and it’s possible that this influenced writers, too. i’m remembering something that came up in another discussion re: gg writers and chaos and lack of continuity between narratives because the show WAS sort of shuffled around re: who was writing what. which i know isn’t technically that unusual, television is collaborative, etc etc, but i think the way it was managed wasn’t ideal and it makes sense (depressingly) that s6 was such a terrible garbage fire of a season - like they didn’t know what to do with their show and they’d quite literally lost the plot so they were throwing narrative darts and hoping that something would stick.

do you think if there weren't problems with taylor momsen, they would've more scenes with jenny

from what i KNOW about taymom, i don't think "problems" is the most fair way to describe it! she was acting from like. as young as 2 or 3? and i hate how like - in early gossip girl interviews, like, from s1, she's so excited about the show, but later on she's very 'don't ask me about jenny humphrey!' it makes sense that she wouldn’t want to keep doing a thing that she’s been doing from that young. idk i just love taylor a lot, don't @ me.

also tbh i feel like the way they wrote jenny’s arc was heavily influenced by taylor momsen & her reputation with her band and fans’ reaction to jenny and all that, so yeah, if someone different were playing jenny maybe they would’ve taken her arc a different way, let her stay for longer on the show, etc. 

this is honestly mostly speculation from context clues. i can say w/ certainty that if someone who didn’t want to leave was playing jenny, we’d have gotten more jenny, since it was taymom who really requested to go. but other than that... who knows, seriously.
