#jrwi riptide #gillion tidestrider #my art #sketch #back on my bullshit woo yeah woo yeah woo yeah #genuinely a lot happier with this design than the previous ones. the lighter metal looks better on him #and this one doesn't have a lot of detail (or any detail tbh) so it looks more solid and fun i think #and you can see im trying to figure out how gill would carry his sword around #technically he should just carry it in his hands and don't have a scabbard because its a longsword and isn't supposed to be sheathed...#but like... its not practical to always carry it in his hands. especially in a day to day life. because he always has the sword on him-#but he doesn't necessarily always hold it? like. he needs hands for stuff #i think i like the back scabbard better (even if i drew the whole turnaround for the hip one) just because it doesn't mess with his tail #plus that way destiny's blade is higher up and gets to look around at stuff and i think its funny #but then like... the cape is a little awkward if it has to go above the sword...#but its not a big deal. if he has a cape and armor on he probably holds the sword in his hands anyway #am i putting too much thought into this unnecessary detail? yes #am i rambling in the tags again instead of making a separate post? also yes

There's a quaint charm in Sabriel being the secret weirdly popular bonus ship of Supernatural, but I still feel somewhat cheated by the fact that the show explicitly mentioned Destiel, Wincest, and Sastiel but NOT Sabriel. I deserved to see the light in Sam's eyes die as he slowly unpicks his and Gabriel's names from the portmanteau. Him glancing unwillingly at Gabriel and then the grief of a thousand dying stars flashing across his face at Gabriel's sly answering wink.

#tbh i think the biggest travesty for sam would be dean making fun of him #bc this interaction would 1000% be the foot in the door that leads them to screwing in their motel the same night #obviously the show wouldnt have dont that so maybe its better this way #sabriel #supernatural

We're all familiar with how most of the Star Trek shows have their dialogue in that somewhat formal stilted manner that plenty of people have poked fun at but also it kind of makes sense in an era of universal translators that people would make a habit of speaking clearly and avoiding slang/metaphors to ensure their points are well translated. I know that was never the intention (and a lot of newer trek shows go for more informal dialogue) but hm. Food for thought.

#like in my (brief) time of giving lectures and formal presentations i would default on clear formal speech to be the most clear #especially for people who have english as a second language #like its very possible that the years of using universal translators for everything just affected peoples' speech processes #(they should still be allowed to swear though)#i have way too many thoughts on the concept of a universal translator and how it functionally works #star trek writers accidentally canonized chompskyist universal grammar. thousands of linguists outraged.#tbh i prefer dw's universal translator better because somehow telepathy is a little more believable than magical mechanical translation #for languages youre just encountering #but its star trek's rules of magic so it gets a pass #star trek #headcanons #my posts
