There's a lot to say about this week's RnM ep (such as that apparently I get to see this shit 2 days after half of my favorite rnm blogs, so I'm stuck skipping far too many spoilers) but putting aside my actual thoughts on the new shift of toxic dynamics in the family and the way that improved relationships in the Sanchez-Smith clan appears to constantly depend on having someone to blame for anything going wrong:
I am so glad they gave us shirtless no abs rick and all of his weird funky robot limb gadgets

It's cloaked in shame
I would like to know what your interpretation of this dialogue, as your more neutral,
I personally ship destiel so my interpretation was it was leaning to dean feeling ashamed for his feelings for Cas, not having Cas return his feelings (that reminded me of J. A saying that he didn't think Cas/angels would feel that way, I'm summarizing) and possible internalised homophobia.
There's discourse as wincest shippers think is about Dean's feelings for Sam romantically. And that's why its cloaked in shame etc
Or is it about the life that dean wants via retirement and wanting to do something else? Like the only qualm I have over this is Amara saying all the love which for me at least indicates a romantic undertone
Okay—so this took me a while to chew on (and I still am tbqh) and I want to preface this by saying nothing I'm saying here is meant to say this is the only way to interpret the dialogue or that dialogue can't represent more than one thing. But I do have a more neutral interpretation for you, anon.
Relevant passage from 11.13 "Love Hurts", where Dean is attacked by a Qareen—an entity that takes on the shape of your "deepest, darkest, desire" in order to get close enough to rip out your heart.
Dean: Find anything? (He turns to see Amara)
Qareen!Amara: I understand Dean.
Dean: Is that right?
Qareen!Amara: the longing in your heart, I feel it too.
Dean: (inching towards the knife) Well that’s touching. Consider that you don’t have a heart. Qareen.
[...]
Qareen!Amara: Who I am doesn’t matter. The real question is who are you?
Dean: What do you mean who am I?
Qareen!Amara: You’re a mystery. I can see inside your heart. Feel the love you feel. Except it’s cloaked in shame. When it comes to this, you can’t help yourself, so why fight it. Just give in.
The very first thing I want to point out here, is that the Qareen clearly perceives Amara to be Dean's "deepest darkest desire"—because it takes on her shape—not Cas's shape, or Sam's shape, or hell—Crowley's shape. If it was concerned with the love Dean was feeling for Cas or Sam or someone else deep down, I think it makes sense to say it would have taken one of their shapes—but it doesn't. It presents itself as Amara. And it presents itself as Amara because the Qareen doesn't represent love at all. It represents dark—often fleeting—desire that is mistaken for love. We see this in a few ways.
First, the episode opens with a wife (Melissa) and husband (Dan) going out for an apparent romantic Valentine's Day dinner. They appear deeply in love at first... but then we find out Dan is schtupping the babysitter, Stacy.
Second, while Melissa is out of the room, Stacy and Dan kiss, and Stacy says, "Ew I can taste her mom lipstick…" only to compliment Melissa's lipstick and act like she loves Melissa when Melissa comes back into the room. Stacy also urges Dan to tell Melissa tonight that he's with her now. Dan calls it heartless to do that on Valentine's day, and says he needs time.
Third, while it isn't caught in the transcript, I noticed when I was watching the episode, in the scene where Stacy is at the house alone, flipping through channels on the TV, we catch a snippet of "Rick and Morty" just as the Qareen, in Dan's shape, comes inside the house to kill Stacy.
Rick: You say it is is how it is, but I think a blind man could see that Beth is looking for the door. I barely have a reason to care and even I noticed.
Morty: Come on, Rick! Don't talk about my parents like that!
Rick: Listen, Morty, I hate to break it to you, but what people call "love" is just a chemical reaction that compels animals to breed. It hits hard, Morty, then it slow fades, leaving you stranded in a failing marriage. I did it. Your parents are gonna do it. Break the cycle, Morty.
Fourth, there's the question of who Dan even actually loves. Does he love Melissa, or Stacy, or neither of them? The Qareen takes Stacy's shape to kill him, which suggests he loves the babysitter, but he's also giving the babysitter the runaround and doesn't necessarily seem willing to commit to her. It seems more like he wants to have his cake in eat it too—get the benefits of his long-term relationship and life together with Melissa, while embroiling himself in a sex-filled affair with someone young and attractive, but who really doesn't come off as long-term partner material (thus our indications of his attempts to stall breaking up with Melissa). He also just... doesn't seem that broken up about Stacy's death.
Fifth, there's Melissa herself, who actually knows about Dan's affair but has kept quiet about it. The Qareen takes the shape of Dan to kill her, because her deepest darkest desire is for Dan to love her back. The Qareen itself is only appearing to all of them because, in a lovesick state, Melissa took a "love spell" from a witch that turned sour (the witch despises women who won't simply leave their cheating husbands, and devised the spell to punish the cheaters and the women who run back to them only for them to cheat again). Melissa wanted to make Dan love her again. But that also... makes me question if she actually loves Dan, or whether she just wants him. If you truly love someone, would you be willing to violate their consent like that—by forcing them to love you back when you believe they've fallen out of love with you?
What I'm saying is... I'm not sure anyone is actually seeing who they truly love. I don't think the Qareen can actually see who people really truly love. It only shows them their "deepest, darkest, desire". It shows them what they want at that exact moment in time—a fall into an illicit affair, a desire to force someone to love you back, or in the case of Amara, escape from captivity—from the prison your loved ones have trapped you inside. The Quareen captures—as Rick tells us—something fleeting and primal—just enough to lower the victim's defenses so it can rip out their heart.
Further, Dean himself vehemently rejects the idea that he loves Amara at the end of the episode, and there's a couple of things I'd like to touch on in this dialogue:
Dean: Honestly? You seriously think the sister of God is my deepest darkest desire?
Sam: She isn’t?
Dean: No! She can’t be!
Sam: Why not?
Dean: Why? Because if she is that means that I’m…
Sam: Means you’re what? Complicit? Weak? Evil?
Dean: For starters, yeah.
Sam: Dean. Do you honestly think you ever had a choice in the matter? She’s the sister of God, and for some reason she picked you and that sucks, but if you think I’m gonna blame you or judge you…I’m not.
Dean: You know that I want her ass dead.
Sam: Yes. Of course. And I know you’ve also probably beaten yourself up a hundred times over it, but where has that gotten us? (Long silence) Just how bad is it?
Dean: Standing here right now, every bone in my body wants to run her through. Send her back to that hole she crawled out of. But when I’m near her, I don’t know. Something happens and I can’t explain it, but to call it desire or love…it’s not that. I’m screwed man. We wanna kill the darkness. We need to kill the darkness. And I don’t think I can. I’m sorry to do that to you, ya know, but when it comes right down to it…
First, note the sign blinking "Non-Consensual" through this conversation. What Dean wants to do and his actions when he's actually in Amara's proximity are two very different things. This scares Dean, and it invokes the the memory of Melissa's love spell—her trying to force Dan to love her. Sam points to a severe power imbalance existing between Dean and Amara—implies that anything Amara wants Dean to do, she can likely make him do, and emphasizes that this isn't Dean'a fault or his choice. We get other nods toward the non-consensual element of Dean's connection to Amara in 11.06—how Amara seems able to resist how enthralled she is with Dean and still blast him into walls, but Dean can't lay a hand on her. In 11.13, I think we also get a subtle nod to the non-con angle with Dean going out looking to hook up the first day they're in town for the case, even though he just got lucky the night before and it was clearly a rough night. Sam points out this is unusual for Dean. Imo, this points to Dean trying to reassert control over who he is attracted to and who he shows desire toward.
So consider: "When it comes to this [your attraction to me], you can’t help yourself, so why fight it. Just give in."
Second, notice that Dean is ashamed. This also isn't the first time we've seen this. Dean tried to kill Amara in 11.06 and couldn't. He deflected then hid it when Cas pressed him on Amara getting away. He reiterates the shame he feels here by insisting it can't be true that he desires Amara because that would make him complicit, weak, and evil just for starters. I'm reminded of Dan hiding the nanny cam, only to show Dean the footage of him punching a hole through Stacy's chest, pleading with Dean to believe that it wasn't him when it's someone who looks exactly like him. Dean can't control what happens around Amara, but he feels implicated anyway—he hides in shame.
For these reasons, I think the most direct reading here is that Dean is ashamed of Amara being his "deepest, darkest, desire," and I think it's also possible that talk of "love" by Qareen!Amara is misdirection—false love for Amara (fleeting desire for what she represents) mispresented as real love. Of course, something can mean more than one thing, and I think there's many ways to play in the sandbox with this episode and this dialogue, but I do think the chief thing they wanted to emphasize in this episode was that Dean is scared of his connection to Amara, and that it isn't his choice, but Dean feels shame anyway (so much so that he hides it until this episode). Amara wants him to give into his desire, and the Qareen also wants him to (so it can kill him) and mischaracterizes what Dean feels as love just as it mischaracterizes what Stacy and Dan and Melissa all feel as love.

While I'm thinking about it this is my ranking of every ghostface! (I'm counting anyone who did at least one on screen kill while wearing the mask!)
Billy Loomis: truly the OG and the man with the plan. I'm a lesbian and I also know I SHOULDN'T be thirsty for him but there's something about how deranged he is while still thinking things through so well that kinda does it for me!
Amber Freeman: oh my god she's an idiot but she's just like me for real!!! Probably my favorite sequel ghostface honestly. Plus she killed that man??? Who we all thought was unkillable????? Soooo...
Stu Macher: did you really think he'd be any lower? He was impulsive and kinda ruined the plan but he had the spirit.
Charlie Walker: fucking moron who got played hard but his kills were enjoyable and also if I'm being real estrogen would have saved her. Literally put down the knife and transition instead, Jill isn't going to love you bbg.
Sam Carpenter: Only one kill but you know damn well she wanted more and honestly the ability to have done it, IN THE MASK, with the hallucinations begging her to do more, and still stop once it wasn't self defense? Yeah okay queen you're an icon.
Danny Johnson: technically a spinoff character but I'll include him since he wore the mask and used the name!! I love Danny but also he's a creep and doesn't really feel emotionally like ghostface to me. But he's cool ig!! I'd watch a movie with him in it.
Jill Roberts: Look she's a bitch but her plan was GOOD. Honestly it's only plot armor that made her lose. She planned it well and I'm impressed with her even if she's sick and twisted.
Sydney Prescott: Barely counts tbqh but also she did do it so I'll give it to her just for being a badass, since everyone below this is at least kind of disappointing.
Jason Carvey: second best opening kill in the franchise, VERY slightly beating out the opening kill for Scream 2. I'm sad we never really got to know him and I do think he should have had a chance in that fight.
Quinn Bailey: All 3 of the main Scream 6 ghostface killers kinda suck but she sucks the least, mostly for that fight scene with Gale! She kicked ass there and I'll give her the point for it.
Ethan Bailey: He still sucks and is bland as a character but had two VERY cool sequences. (The ladder sequence which was the kill that made me saddest and most uncomfortable and the train sequence.) Bland though.
Debbie Loomis: didn't even really get her hands dirty except the once and then it was one of the best characters in the franchise so I do hate her a bit for that but also her plan was well orchestrated and her fall guy was well picked.
Jamal Elliot: Look I don't like the TV Series at all but honestly he had a good arc and a good motive and some okay kills given it was for TV. Would I have preferred him in movie? Definitely. Was he even close to the worst killer on this list? Nope!
Micky Altieri: I do not believe this guy exists tbqh. He is so deeply unbelievable as a character that he ruins the immersion for me. Some good kills but his motivation and characterization flip makes no sense.
Roman Bridger: Why would he be higher tbh. None of his plans worked even with as Machiavellian as he's supposed to look, his retcon is stupid and takes the weight away from previous movies, he's incompetent and also like why would you get involved in a film franchise about the crimes you caused to be committed? I feel like it's so sloppy and the person masterminding ghostface can't be sloppy. Also the kills in this movie suck.
Detective Bailey: Boring character, twist visible from miles away, I did not trust him even from the poster, and his motivation makes him despicable. Hate him.
Beth: Literally a caricature of a ghostface killer. She would be at the very bottom if I didn't hate Richie with the passion of a billion burning suns.
Richie Kirsch: literal actual pedophile. Like canonically. He groomed a 16 year old lesbian (maybe she's bi in the final cut?? I know in the original script she was explicitly a lesbian but maybe they changed it to make Richie look less bad idk) into doing this and I'm glad he's dead actually.

Harry Potter: The Cursed Child is one of the worst sequels ever written, at least the version of the script I have which is the special rehearsal edition.
Boy, oh boy.... Given what I’ve heard about it being unfaithful to the books when it comes to characterization, that comes as no surprise to me. :/

About s2 of TPG:
Have you figured out anythong for the gen 2 characters (our nepotism babies) yet? Like atcs or interactions with the rest of the worseverse?
tbqh i'm trying to work on getting the rest of season 1 out. i have this problem creatively where if i get too ahead of myself the whole project dies.
that said, yes! i'm planning on having Lightning, Dakota, and Brick in season 2 (they're nepotism babies bc Dakota and Lightning's dads are already friends with Chris and Brick's dad is already friends with Chef) I also think i'm gonna bring Brady (Beth's boyfriend) in as a camper
AND i wanna put at least Zoey, maybe Sky and/or Jasmine in season 3. and so far Zoey is the only character from later generations who just auditions and gets cast like a normal person. (Sierra and Alejandro are also gonna be nepotism babies lol)
no spoilers but yes i have some story ideas also unrelated anybody know if there's a ship name already for Gwen and Lightning? i swear i'm jumping on the most random ships lol
also also i found a shirt that i'd totally put Scott in so i need to find a way to work him in.

okay, so, here are my thoughts on the finale,
i’m gonna start with the things i didn’t like, just because of who i am as a person! my feelings are mixed, but... looks lovingly at evil morty. he truly was the only exception as usual ♥
i’m not going to lie, this whole thing felt. rushed. although some of rick’s meta commentary about not touching citadel shit because it was canon and he and morty were supposed to be going back to lighthearted one off adventures, and “the second he reveals that he’s evil, we’re out” made me laugh, it also felt very disingenuous and ham-fisted. having him do all these fourth wall breaks honestly took away from the impact of what this episode could have been, but whatever.
i just got the vibe that they wanted everyone to stfu about the citadel and evil morty, so they quickly stuck together this episode that dealt with fans’ demand in one fell swoop so they could move on from the existence of both plotlines. i honestly thought it was a bit wasteful since tales from the citadel resonated with a lot of fans and it was an interesting bit of worldbuilding with compelling narratives going on.
you already all likely know how irritated i am with morty’s character degrading so much once again. this entire season has been building him up to becoming so much more capable, only to wrench it away from him again by instead having his co-dependency with rick ramped up to the point it was literally out of character. this has come out of nowhere. at no point in the show’s entire run has morty ever been this needy with rick.
again, i feel like this may have been written around what eventually ended up happening at the citadel, with the revelation that mortys are ‘bred for forgiveness.’ it would have been far more compelling for our morty to have continued to go down the path of being decidedly unforgiving of rick’s bullshit, thereby making him deviate from the norm in a similar way to evil morty himself and implicating that the cycle of a morty going to these extremes is going to be repeated once again.
rick did not deserve or earn voicing the recognition that his dynamic with morty was toxic, and abusive. are you fucking kidding me? the smartest man in the universe only JUST clocked onto that? bullshit! he’s known all along, and he’s been using it for his own gain! he doesn’t get to just say it with that regretful voice as if he’s been clueless / oblivious to it this entire time. they just wanted the audience to feel sympathetic for him by throwing in this tidbit and a tragic backstory, as if that even sort of makes up for everything he’s put his family through.
abandoning the people you’ve hurt is ALSO abusive and toxic behaviour! he’s done it time and time again! how is acknowledging the fact that you hurt people, that you hurt your family, the people that love you despite the fact you objectively don’t deserve it, then ditching them once again instead of staying with them and improving as a person and helping everyone heal from what you’ve put them through, ANY BETTER?? he never changes!!
i also couldn’t really process the fact that rick just handed morty his portal gun like it was nothing-- i feel like him topping it off and using it behind rick’s back should have been a bigger deal than what it was. also, morty would not break a guy out of a mental asylum without a second thought. he simply wouldn’t do that.
we’ve fallen right back into the status quo of morty being stupid and rick being the smartest one in the room who always knows what’s going on, even when he actually shouldn’t for the sake of a few meta jokes. which is more annoying than i can put into words tbqh
obviously i hated all the parallels they were attempting to make between rick and morty having a romantic relationship and “breaking up.” never has morty behaved so uncharacteristically in any other episode of the show. it honestly felt disrespectful to all the growth he’s had as a character to reduce him to something so pathetic.
i guess this is less of a thing i disliked, and more of a commentary on rick’s character? but once again, his hypocrisy really leapt out at me once it was revealed that he always has a hand in bringing together beths and jerrys in order to ensure that more mortys will end up in the multiverse. i find it unbelievably sad that he’ll willingly ensnare the two of them in the throes of a relationship that he knows is likely to become toxic and cause the both of them to be miserable throughout their time together; they’re rarely happy / compatible together and always end up sticking it out for the kids. it also makes his constant shitting on jerry even more egregious and almost serves to call his love for his daughter into question for me. he’s using her as a means to his own ends by manipulating situations so she’ll meet jerry and they’ll likely end up together.
don’t get me wrong, i actually really loved the fact he had a hand in founding the citadel he now loathes so much, and i think the constant creation of mortys as grandsons ‘bred to forgive’ ricks is so fucked up and awful in the most intriguing way. it’s akin to him fiddling with the concept of keeping mortys in constant pain to cloak his comings and goings around the multiverse (on paper, morty, on paper!), except this time he did it in reality.
evil morty. oh my god, evil morty. my saving grace. my ray of light. i’m so, so, so pleased with the way he was handled. while i admit i was looking forward to more of a slow - burn thing, getting a bit of insight into his presidency and possibly exploring a dynamic with him and c-137 (we’ll get to that)... i honestly still really loved what ended up happening with him, even though i still believe on some level that they just wanted to tie up his narrative thread so fans wouldn’t remain fixated on him.
of course he did. of course that motherfucker rick created a boundary within the infinite multiverse that ensured he’d always be the smartest man within it as far as mortys and other people in his life were concerned. i’ve always found it odd that such universes were never brought up even in passing; the nature of infinite possibilities always dictated that someone smarter than him must exist out there, and that worlds existed where he was nobody special.
him being morally gray. i could cry. i was clinging on to the hope that it would be shown he hates ricks more than he looks down on mortys, and it absolutely was. while he was okay with killing and hurting mortys to achieve his own “selfish” ends, it’s clear that he’s unhappy with the cycle of abuse from their infinite grandfathers that pushes him to these extremes, loathes the concept that mortys are not supposed to defy their ricks. “if you’ve ever been sick of him, you’ve been evil morty too.” he hates ricks FAR more than he does mortys, and you can pry that from my cold, dead hands. he believes mortys are beyond help because of the way they stick by rick-- the fact they’re literally created with being yes-men for rick in mind.
he didn’t seek to make changes for the greater good of other mortys within the citadel. i think he understood on some level, it was impossible. i think he has this belief that other mortys are part of the problem, because they perpetuate the cyclic dynamic of toxicity and harm-- they don’t move to break free from it the way he does, and so he feels no guilt leaving them behind while he breaks into the aspect of the multiverse where rick has no power. it’s honestly heartbreaking that he’s come to have a mindset like that.
i think seeing c-137 reach out to help rick up once again instead of accepting what i hope and pray was a semi - genuine offer to join him as he departed was just yet another instance of him witnessing a morty doing the most to save the man who makes their lives a living hell. if he was truly unsympathetic, he’d have made no such offer. if he thinks a morty is capable of pulling away from the hold ricks have on them, he wants them out of this shit just as much as he himself wants to break free from it. i think he has the mindset that i know they tried to play it off with “haha the other seat’s a toilet,” but i don’t think that was the case and they were once again just undermining the moment for no good reason. SCREAMS!! don’t get me wrong what he did WAS selfish and evil. but in a way you can understand where it derives from
again, it REALLY irritates me they’ve undone so much of morty’s character just to ensure he wouldn’t end up taking evil morty up on his proposition. if morty had retained even a tenth of the character growth he’s been having from late season four until towards the end of season five, wherein it began to unravel, he’d have left rick. undeniably.
the yellow portal. oh my god............
it made me so fucking emotional to see that. he’s won. he’s free.

Rio or Beth
ew, gross. neither tbqh, they're both extremely annoying and unacceptably stupid.
gonna have to fall back on the iT dEpEnDs chestnut, but! i think i know kinda what it depends on...? like, if we're going doylist it's probs beth. her character is much more fleshed out and... sensical really. rio's canon behaviour feels ridiculous/ly inconsistent, and i think probs THE most egregious part of it is that i find it very difficult to believe he can possibly be any good at his job (whatever it is exactly).
but!!! watsonian take! probs rio bc if you take it all at face value what the fuck is going on there why is he SO WEIRD!?!
further though: gun to my head if i had to hire one of them it would be beth, rio's communication and delegation and general life skills are abysmal
send me two characters and a decision and i will make it (maybe)

Learned later on when she managed to find a way to the light part of the coral sea that she was abandoned there because she was born with defected tentacles that were way shorter than average. She’s always questioning whether fate has been kind or cruel to her.
She met the octotrio by chance one day while she was resting under a tree in the courtyard, she heard yelling in the distance so she went to grab her phone to listen to music only to realize her phone was gone. She looked in the direction of the yelling to see a random student being chased by the twins with Azul watching “and wait did that student have my phone” she thought to herself, so she got up to get a better look and sure enough that student had stole her phone and the twins were trying to get it back. After it was all over and she got it back Azul invited her to mostro so the 4 of them could get better introduced

Hi!! Love your writing so much and sorry you must get these type of questions all the time, but would you ever consider writing brio teacher student (college) with rio as the teacher and beth as the student? I just think it would be so interesting and you would 110% do it justice
Hi!!!! Thank you so much!!!
Tbqh I probably would not write a teacher/student AU (even if it’s college) cuz that dynamic kinda creeps me out BUTTTTT I would totally write them role playing that!!

author meme pt5
@sothischickshe tagged me to do this for everything you love will burn up in the light (tyy <3)
so, tbqh, the inspo for this fic was your fic hahaha i love What a sight to see. like, a lot. i was already posting chapter one of the howl’s au for halloween but i reread your fic and decided that i needed to do a vampire au too
obvi i didn’t want to copy yours, so i changed it around. and then i remembered the vampire hunters from tvd and decided that if rio was a vampire then beth needed to be a vampire hunter who wanted to kill him but accidentally fell in love (other tvd things i included: blood in the fridge, vervain, daylight ring. is this fic just a tvd rip off? maybe)
and then i decided it’d be fun to do the 20 questions thing as a fun twist on canon (still very disappointed that someone counted and they didn’t actually ask 20 questions bc it took me so long to figure out how to reach exactly 20 lol)
and that’s how the fic came to be :)
i’m tagging:
@sothischickshe for What a sight to see
@emilykolburn for Sink A Little Deeper
rules under the cut
recently I have become really fascinated with fanfic authors and what exactly was rumbling around in their brain that inspired a fic?
Was it a line of dialogue you couldn’t get out of your head?
A scene you wrote WAY in advance and then crafted the whole story around?
An image in your mind?
Inspiration from another form of media?
Maybe someone suggested something to you and it just TOOK off from there?
What is the root of your fic? The cornerstone -what is it all built around? The idea that started it all?
Tag an author & their fic. Let’s hear about what sparked your story. What exactly got your booty movin’ shakin’ motivated and writin’
