So…. theories on Sunrise on the Reaping as it stands today.

We know that Haymitch’s entire family was killed after his games, including his friends and girlfriend. I’m interested if Collins is going to do a longer book like TBSBS, where we might see his life after the games rather than what we got with Katniss, though I’m leaning towards the former.

We also now know that Haymitch’s girlfriend was named Lenore. Lenore Dove. Now, her double name and how it might connect to the Covey is a thread for another time, I want to address just the first part of her name.

Lenore is lost likely a reference to Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Raven.” In the poem, the speaker gets progressively crazier as he imagines a raven, the symbol of loss mind you, has come to taunt him for the rest of his days, mocking him in the wake (or probably months after) his lover’s death.

All that to say is, if we have a Lenore, who is our Poe, our speaker? Haymitch! I wonder if Haymitch’s descent into alcoholism will mirror the speaker’s descent into madness from the poem.

Will we see into his years as a mentor, and will any of that mirror Haymitch and his slow descent into madness as he watches his peers, and later the friends of his brother, and later, even his close friends DAUGHTER go into the battlefield to die?

Will they all be parallel’s to his own reaping?

And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting.

hunger games posting again who me absolutely. i cannot believe i am seeing people saying the rushed ending of tbsbs (i’m sorry bro i’m not putting all those vowels in there) is BAD????, be so fucking serious. what??? i have never in my life felt so swept up by a book. my eyes fucking scanning the page like i’m in the woods looking for birds that are driving me crazy. i had to read it two or three times. it was a whirlwind. do you know how technically skilled you have to be to pull off that level of pacing???? i was shaking i was in AWE of collins using the form of a book so strongly to her advantage to say that you can be literally home free on your way to leaving the system behind but if that’s what you were groomed for that’s what you’ll do in an instant because it’s conditioned into you. to kill the beautiful things that scare you and fall in line. there’s no slow burn for it. he gets off quickly with few consequences because he was always going to, we knew this, otherwise he wouldn’t have become who we know him to be. waste of breath to say more— he served his time in 12, he made the right choice, so he’s welcome home, and snow lands on top. she told us from the jump it would. it’s an unceremonious ending because we literally already know how his end actually comes.

Roasted Eggplant Soup

Almost all of the ingredients for this soup came out of my garden, everything except the onion and the tomatoes. I’ve had the worst luck with tomatoes this year and last and it’s so frustrating because I love tomatoes! Anyway, I used the last of the eggplant and zucchini from the garden for this, so it was also a “clean out the garden” soup. Haha.

If you like eggplant Parmesan, you will love this soup. serve with some bread and a salad and you've got a great lunch or dinner.  

Roasted Eggplant Soup

2 small eggplants chopped into about 1 inch pieces

3 small or 2 medium zucchini chopped slightly smaller than the eggplant

1 onion sliced

1 large can of diced tomatoes

1-2 cloves of garlic

1 Tbsp olive oil

1 tsp salt

pinch of red pepper flakes

1 tsp sugar

fresh ground pepper

2 Tbsb fresh chives diced (or 1 tsp dried)

1 Tbsp fresh chopped basil (or 1 tsp dried)

4 cups vegetable broth

Put the chopped vegetables in a 9X13 pan.  Add olive oil, red pepper, black pepper, and garlic.  Roast in a 375 degree oven for about 35 minutes, or until eggplant is tender. Transfer roasted vegetables to a soup pot, add tomatoes, broth, sugar, basil, and add a little more salt, pepper, and red pepper if you want to.  Bring to a boil, then turn down to simmer for about 20 minutes.  You can stop right here if you want your soup really chunky.  I put mine in the blender on chop in batches until it was in very small chunks.  That's it, serve with some more basil and Parmesan cheese if you like.  Enjoy!

Med-Raw vegan pumpkin soup:

500g of fresh boiled pumpkin

20g cashew

1-2 tbsb flaxseed

1/4 tsb salt

1/2 tsb ginger paste ( I'l post recipe)

10g pumpkin seed

About 3 stalks of cilantro

1 peg of garlic

400ml water

Instructions:

Cook the pumpkin

Blend all ingredients together

Enjoy!!!

fish and chips 🐟🍟 Recipe: for the fish: 1. Cut cod into 4 inch pieces 2. Pat cod dry with paper towel 3. Season with salt and pepper 4. Flour the cod and let sit for a half hour 5. Make the batter: combine flour, 1-2 bottles of beer, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Stir to combine 6. Drench cod in batter and put in deep fryer at 350 degrees. Cook for 7-8 minutes, turning once, until golden brown. for the chips: 1. Peel Yukon gold potatoes, and then cut into shape of a fry. 2. Put potatoes into deep fryer filled with oil at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. 3. Cook until browned, about 10 minutes. 4. Season fries with salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, and garnish with parsley and paprika. for the tartar sauce: 1. In a large mixing bowl, combine mayo, mashed bread and butter pickles, capers, dill, 2 tbsb lemon juice, salt, pepper, and a little sugar and stir until thick and ingredients are combined.
