Truly even if Dustin, Lucas and Mike got upset with Steve about sending Max home with her brother. If anything, it should be pointed out that they knew her for what?
A week?
And they brought her into a situation where she could potentially get seriously hurt or DIE. Looking at Mike too honestly cause he witnessed soliders getting killed in the hospital. Scientists and BOB getting murdered by demodogs.

Alright gay people. Be prepared to lose your shit:
Ronance Lemonade Mouth AU
Nancy is Stella!!! Because I said so!!! Nancy deserves a rebel era and I can so see her being upset about the arts funding being cut for sports, including journalism. Electric guitar player Nancy my beloved >>>
Robin is Olivia, the shy, socially awkward songwriter and singer!!! Going to have her living with Steve as opposed to a grandma or something, but keeping the cat (who ironically in the movie is named Nancy). Might keep the her dad is in prison part? Undecided on how I’m translating Olivia’s background to Robin.
Speaking of Steve, he gets to be Charlie, the drummer! Keeping the pretty hair and parental pressure, but instead of wanting him to go to Stanford or play soccer, his dad wants him to join the insurance firm.
Eddie is Wen because Stella/Wen friendship > Nancy/Eddie besties ofc. Rather than coming in with rap, he adds amazing guitar riffs and heavy metal elements to the band’s sound. His family trouble involves settling in with Wayne, rather than dealing with a new stepmom.
And Mo was hard to decide, but!!! Our own Chrissy Cunningham. Her mom puts so much pressure on her to be the perfect daughter and Mo’s relationship with the one guy translates far too well to Chrissy’s relationship with Jason. Chrissy bass player arc omfg.
The rival band includes Jason, Billy (the one shitty guy who always starts drama), Tommy H, and Lucas (mirroring the basketball team here). Lucas tries to settle the drama throughout the AU.
The story begins when everyone gets detention. Robin and Chrissy were skipping class, Nancy blew up at someone about a news segment. Eddie got mad at a teacher, and Steve hit someone with a basketball (on accident).
The music teacher is Joyce and she leaves them all alone and that goofy little music moment happens and they all sing together.
Instead of Mel’s Lemonade, hear me out: Argyle’s Lemonade.
Robin has severe stage fright, but the band helps her get through it, especially Nancy. She and Steve live together. Eddie is often over to help with lyrics. She has an old ass cat that’s the last thing she has of her mother, just like Olivia.
Nancy gets to be rebellious in this fic. Her dad thinks she should just settle for a white picket fence (when he bothers to pay attention to her at all), her mom doesn’t really fight it, so Nancy rebels. She’s also getting the school newspaper together after the funding cut. Tell me this girl isn’t the kind to protest lack of free speech and the removal of the lemonade machine.
Eddie was only just sent to Wayne. It’s supposed to be temporary. In the same way Wen gets used to his stepmom, Eddie has to get used to Wayne and they do eventually grow closer. The scene where it’s revealed that Wen’s stepmom is moving in is instead Eddie arriving home to all of his belongings there in boxes and his parents nowhere to be seen—his stay is suddenly much more permanent.
Steve’s dad wants him to be an athlete (basketball) and join the insurance firm, but Steve just doesn’t want that. He quits basketball for the band and there’s some family struggle.
Rethinking the living situation, I may have Robin and Steve move in together partway through the story as opposed to the beginning, but I’m unsure where that leaves Robin. Her background is the hardest to work out.
Chrissy learns to stand on her own, gets away from her mom’s expectations, and sees Jason as the manipulative shitheel he is. Naturally she falls for one of the band’s biggest fans: Vickie.
Dustin plays the role of the AV kid that helps the band throughout the movie. He shows Nancy around in the beginning, explains the budget cut, and he makes the first vinyls for the band.
Nancy gets to rock Billy’s shit because I said so.
In the end scene, it’s Max and Lucas who save the day. Lucas leaves the rival band to help Lemonade Mouth out, Max is the first person in the crowd to start singing.
Steddie is established already. Ronance is the focus. Any of the Wen/Olivia scenes will be Ronance instead because I said so. Rumors circulate that Eddie and Robin are dating because Steddie keeps quiet and Robin isn’t out and the whole band finds it hilarious.

She groaned as her the very off key tones of her dad was heard from the drivers seat as he attempted to dance and sing like a man half his age behind the wheel. Attempt being the key word here as he looked like he was having some sort of seizure and his voice sounded like a kid going through puberty which just sort of made both her and her mom laugh at him as they attempted to sing along but couldn't due to their laughter that shook their frame. The Volkswagon that contained the three was on the way to the airport where the Campbell family was on the way to visit Mrs. Campbell's older sister Karen Wheeler who lives in Hawkins Indiana. Nicole was so excited because she'd missed seeing her cousins Nancy and Mike. It'd been a few years since they'd last got together; the last time the young girl had seen them since their last family get together which if she remembered was like a family funeral for her nan or something like that a few years back. She'd try to keep in touch with her cousins seeing as they were the only family she had her age. Mike was 12 right now if Nicole remembered which made Nancy 16. Where Nicole fell between them was smack dab in the middle at age 14 in her current years which make the three of them the perfect trio when they were all together all things considering. Nicole was the type that got along with most people and was always super friendly so perhaps that's why she was close friends with Mike's childhood gang of misfit nerds Will, Lucas, and Dustin but at the same time had no problem with staying up with Nancy chatting about boys and gossiping as if Nicole was 16 just like her. So yeah, you could say Nicole was super excited to spend the summer over at her best friends house. Her parents weren't going to stay the summer, only like the first week before they were kicking off to go visit some other family in other states which would leave a very happy Nicole in the custody and care of her Aunt Karen and Uncle Dan. Let's just say, Nicole was stoked for summer.
"Dad I think you just missed the exit turn for the airport." Nicole leaned over Mr. Campbell's shoulder from her perch in the backseat to pat at his shoulder who'd stopped singing long enough to listen to her words.
He looked down at the map briefly with a groan "Oh shit you're right honey." he stated only to receive a good whack on the arm from his wife who wore a playful scowl.
"Language Harold!" she chided.
"Sorry dear." the man replied with a sheepish chuckle as he fondly grabbed his wife hand before tipping his head over his shoulder to look at those beautiful blue eyes of his daughter as she rested her chin on his shoulder with a smile as she watched the road ahead.
"Why don't you tell me where we can turn honey?" Harold offered as he let go of his wife's hand so that he could grab the folded map in his lap to hand back to his daughter.
Beaming with excitement Nicole snatched it and flopped back into her seat glad to have something to do instead of staring out the window or be subjected to her father's horrible singing. "What road are we on right now?" she asked scanning the lines and colors of the map in her lap.
"Route 65." The pretty girl nodded to herself as her finger scanned the paper before exclaiming in delight and triumph.
"There's a turn about about 3 miles up the road Dad! We can turn there and make our way back down the otherside until that junction we had to stop at earlier before taking a left on the right exit for the airport!"
The parents from the front seat turned to smile at each other with proud looks on their faces as they listened. Nicole was always such a smart girl and they couldn't help be proud of her. Once she went back to school she'd do great in all her classes and if they had a say in it. They'd think she'd become rather popular too if she'd eventually open up. She was a pretty girl and not just for her brains either. Even at 14 years of age she was such a cutie with her sleek strawberry blonde locks that rested just below her shoulders, pale skin soft as a peach, and those mesmerizing eyes she got from her father's side of the gene pool no doubt; probably the tint of her strawberry locks too considering Harold Campbell had a shocking head of read hair and bright blue eyes while Nicole's mother Jessica had pretty blonde curles and brown eyes.
As they continued to drive the sun began to sink further and further in the sky ahead making them nervous that they'd miss their flight. Especially as the darkness finally settled in and they didn't seem any closer to their destination. It felt like hours since they'd made that wrong turn and tempers were getting short. Nicole was resting in the back seat with her chin in her hands as she stared out into the darkness beyond her window as she listened to the bickering of her parents in the front. What started as a fun beginning to their trip turned into a disaster.
"I told you Harold you should have gone right!" Jessica stated angrily as she stabbed a finger ontop of the map in her lap as she glared over at her husband who was trying to keep track of the road and his wife's angry stare.
"Jessica, darling, I simply missed the turn Nickie had told me. I'm sure there is another turn somewhere we can take or a place to stop for the night." he tried to reason.
"Harold we've missed our plane by now! Where do you think we're going from here? There isn't another turn for another hundred miles and we are running out of gas!" the man glanced down to realize that she was in fact right; the gas tank only had a few miles left before empty.
"Can't we call someone perhaps?" Harold offered glancing down at the car phone plugged into the console which his wife merely rolled her eyes and waved her hands around dramatically.
"Call who Harold? We don't know where we are at!"
"Mom Dad." Nicole's voice spoke up suddenly from the back trying to gain their attention but they were too busy to arguing to pay attention to their daughter's soft voice calling for them.
Swallowing the girl peered closer through her window when she saw it again. A shape, lanky and oddly humanoid shaped as it ran along the side of the road just barely seen from the light the moon cast. It looked…wrong. She couldn't quiet tell what it was, for all she knew it could be a wolf or coyote or something but that didn't seem right to her. The figure seemed to be too big for one of those and was far faster than one of canines she knew of. The thing outside her window was keeping up at 65 mph that the car was driving down the road and Nicole knew this wasn't any creature she'd ever heard of that could match that speed that lived in these parts. A wolf's top speed was 31-37mph while a coyote's top was 35-43mph. Franky the thing could have been a mountain lion or something but that was so far fetched in her mind.
"Mom, Dad, I think I see something outside-" Nicole reached over the seats to tap her mother's shoulder.
"Nicole hold on a minute we are-"
something slammed into the side of the car making Mr. Campbell lose control of the car. They screamed clutching at whatever they could as the vehicle lost traction a second on the ground before the man managed to get it back straight on the road. He slowed the car down a bit until they were at a complete stop. All three panting and looking at each other like 'what the fuck just happened?'
"Oh god did I hit a deer?" Mr. Campbell gasped out as he looked through the review mirror to see if he could see a body of a deer lying in the road but what they saw was most definitely not a deer.
Nicole couldn't believe her eyes as she saw the figure slowly emerge into the range of the back lights of the car. A soft "Oh my god." slipped past her lips before she screamed bloody murder as the face. or what should have been a face of whatever the hell that thing was opened like petals of a flower to expose hundreds of teeth lining it's mouth.
"Drive! Dad drive!"
Mr. Campbell slammed on the gas and the tires screeched as the car lurched forward and began to gain speed. The night was pierced by the sudden screech of something that was definitely not human as the lanky figure rose on its back legs and began charging the car with claw-like hands reaching for the vehicle. Nicole couldn't take her eyes away from the figure as it slowly began to get smaller and smaller as the car hit 45mph, 65pmh, and then 85mph. Reckless was the right word to call it but they were outrunning it; that counted for something right? Wrong. So very very wrong. Because suddenly their tire popped like a balloon making the car careen sideways; losing not only the traction of the road but the control of the car itself as it spun once and then it happened. That THING came back out of nowhere and slammed into the side of the car. Due to the momentum that the car was driving the strength that thing possessed managed to make the car flip a few times as it skidded across the road with sparks of flint as metal scraped concrete. The smell of smoke and gasoline was pungent in Nicole's nose when her blurry vision tried to focus on what was going on. Her head hurt, her entire body hurt and she could feel the hot stickiness of blood running down her face and body. With a neck that hurt like a son of a bitch she turned her head to look towards the broken window of where pieces of shattered glass still desperately clung to the frame. Through it, she could see the slick grey figure of whatever that creature was amble its way towards them.
Nicole realized that the world looked wrong because she was upside down; the car having landed in a crumbling heap on it's roof. With what strength she could muster she jammed at her seatbelt; getting it unlocked only for her to fall straight onto her front with a cry of pain as she landed on glass that jammed into her already broken up body. She heard the snuffling of whatever that creature was outside; seemingly excited at the scent of blood and it made her whimpered as she reached to the front of the car to nudge at the limp forms of her parents.
"mom dad, some on! Wake up! We gotta run. Come on!" she sobbed seeing the blooded faces of her parents. Trying to keep it together she crawled through one of the broken windows when she noticed that alien looking thing wasn't nearby and instead was sniffling and pawing at their luggage that had fallen out of the car during the accident.
She crouched by her mom's side of the window and tried to wake her but she realized with a sob that her mom was no longer breathing. That was partly due to the shards of glass that was peirced through her torso. Pleading for whatever gods may be watching Nicole peered past her mother to look at her dad just in time for a grey clawed hand to reach into the open window and sink into her father's torso; yanking his body from the car. He was already dead but that didn't stop the creature from opening it's face up like a blooming flower and sink those small teeth into her father's chest. Nicole's hand clasped to her mouth to stifle her screams as the thing tore into her father's body. The sound of flesh and bone being torn and sucked clean would haunt her forever.
She thought she was a gonner too; it was only a matter of minutes before that thing would find her without much trouble seeing as there was no where to hide in the middle of nowhere roadscape. She was too young to die but she was going to anyways. Or so she thought until she saw lights in the distance. Multiple lights as helicopters flew closer and closer; people dressed in black suites and military weaponry came catapaulting down from ropes as beaming lights landed on the wreckage and that thing still eating it's meal of an innocent man's body. As the bright spotlight landed on it the head rose and it screeched up at the sky before attempting to run. Nicole didn't see what happened to it because her vision was blurry and her hearing sounded as if everything was getting muffled and far away. She barely even registered when one of those men in black military attire holding a large gun crouched in front of her.
"We have a survivor!" his voice was barely even there as Nicole's eyes rolled into the back of her head and she collapsed onto the concrete at his feet.

The cool night breeze rolled in through Y/N Byers’ open window as she and Robin laid in her bed. Late Summer nights spent in bed with her girlfriend were Y/N’s favourite. Having their legs tangled together, their arms holding each other close as they lightly traced random shapes on each other. It was true bliss in her eyes. “You think your mom is back with the movie yet?” Robin broke the comfortable silence with a whisper. Y/N shrugged, pulling her hand away from where it was playing with Robin’s short hair.
“We would have heard her car so probably not,” She answered, shifting as she propped her elbow up. Robin automatically rolled onto her back, gazing up at Y/N with big blue eyes that sparkled in the silver moonlight, the sounds of frogs and crickets filling the silent room again as they enjoyed the company of each other. “Steve is probably taking forever to lock up the store and she’s probably waiting for him to leave so we don’t start without him.” She hypothesized, looking down at Robin again.
Robin hummed, nodding as she pictured Steve fumbling around with his keys, trying each one to figure out which one locked the store door. “He can never remember which key goes to what. We should get him a label maker so he can label them.” She suggested making Y/N snort out a laugh, flopping on her back, untangling themselves from each other completely.
“Are we really going to be that couple that gives friends stationary for presents,” She asked, lulled her head to the side to gaze at Robin who shrugged, pulling a face that asked her why they couldn’t be. “Because those couples are the boring couple that never get invited to any parties people actually want to have fun at.” She answered Robin’s silent question.”
“Fair point.” Robin agreed just as Y/N’s bedroom door opened. The two girls pulled themselves up, looking at the door as Joyce popped her head in.
“Sorry to interrupt girls night, but Steve is here with the movies and I got the snacks, come on out to the living room.” She told them, leaving the door open as she disappeared down the hall, getting Jonathan from his room. Silently, the girls rolled off Y/N’s bed and shuffled out into the living room, being greeted by Steve and Will placing bowls of chips and popcorn on the coffee table that already had a display of soda and water sitting on it.
“Hey, Dingus,” Robin greets Steve as she brushed past him to sit on the couch. “Will.” She nodded at the younger boy, slapping hands with him in a greeting as he sat beside her.
“Hi, Robin.” Steve breathed out, taking a seat in the armchair, cracking open a can of soda, taking a drink. Y/N stepped over his sprawled-out legs, plunking herself down on the other side of Robin, her feet kicking up to rest on her lap comfortably.
“Where are the other kids?” Y/N wondered, looking over her shoulder at Steve as he sat his open soda down, popping a piece of popcorn in his mouth.
“Dustin is sick, Max is busy being grounded, Lucas is sulking being Max is grounded, and Mike is at a family dinner with his grandparents,” Steve listed off the location of each kid easily. Making Robin laugh. “What?” Steve asked with furrowed brows as he grabbed a chip, crunching on it instantly before wiping his hands on his jeans, bouncing his knee.
“Oh nothing, it’s just that you’re such a mom.” Robin made fun of him, her hands resting on Y/N’s ankles as Joyce walked back in with Jonathan in tow looking like he just woke up from a nap, the pair sitting on the other couch.
“So, Steve,” Joyce started, reaching for two sodas, handing one to Jonathan. Robin reached over, collecting three and placed them in her lap. “What movie is first?” She asked as Y/N and Will each plucked a can from Robin’s lap, opening them at the same time, both cans hissing loudly.
“Have no idea, let Will pick-”
“Rawhead Rex!” Will interrupted excitedly, shocking Joyce since she obviously hadn’t picked that one up.
“Wiliam Byers, did you pick that up without me knowing?”
“No, please, I don’t like scary movies!” Joyce and Y/N said at the same time.
“Which is exactly why I didn’t pick any scary movies, mister.” Joyce told Will in a semi-scolding manner.
“Don’t worry, Y/N, I’ll protect you from the scary movie.” Robin looked over at her, her tone somewhat teasingly. Joyce cooed at this, tilting her head slightly.
“Aw, you two are so cute together,” She sighed longingly. “Wish I had had someone like that in high school.”
____
“I’m heading out for a date mom,” Y/N announced as she walked down the hall from her room, slinging her purse over her shoulder. Joyce opened her bedroom door, popping her head out just as Y/N was about to walk past, scarring her daughter. “Jesus mom,” She exclaimed, her hand flying to her chest as her heart tried to calm down. “You scared me! I thought you were in the kitchen!”
“Sorry dear,” She apologized, opening her door all the way and stepping out of her room all dressed up. Y/N furrowed her brows at her mom’s appearance. She was awfully dressy for a night home alone. Parting her lips as she followed her mother into the living room, she went to say something but Joyce interrupted. “You said you were going on a date, but I don’t see a car.” She pointed out as she looked out the window.
“I’m actually driving tonight.” Y/N explained before opening her mouth the ask her mother about her plans for the night.
“How progressive,” Joyce smiled, turning to face her daughter again, clasping her hands together. “I love a good feminist moment, you have fun on your date and tell me all about it when you get home.”
“So I can have the car,” Y/N asked tentatively. She had assumed that her mother would take the night to relax as this would be the first night in years she has to be home alone. Joyce nodded, looking at her daughter oddly as she tossed the car keys towards her from the bowl by the door. “You don’t have plans? You seem like you do.” Y/N pressed, not wanting to ruin her mother’s plans.
“Oh, I do have plans, I have a date.” Joyce confirmed as if it was nothing. Y/N sputtered, taken aback by this information and how nonchalantly her mother just disclosed it. She watched her mother walk into the kitchen as if it was any other day.
“If you have a date then you need the car, I’ll figure out how to work around not having a car right now-” Y/N rushed into the kitchen behind her, holding the keys out to Joyce who shook her head, pushing her hand away and cutting her off.
“No, I don’t need the car, he’s picking me up here, you go on your date with the car and have fun!” Joyce told her, grabbing Y/N’s shoulders and forcing her to turn around.
“But, this is your first date since Bob died. Do you want me to stay home in case you need to bail? What if something goes wrong and you can’t reach me or Hopper? What if this guy is secretly a mad scientist connected to the Upside Down? What if he’s just a horrible person-” Y/N rambled, fighting against her mother’s hold as she pushed her towards the door.
“Trust me, Y/N,” Joyce started, opening the front door as Y/N continued to ramble off scenarios that could possibly go wrong. “None of that is going to be an issue. I know this guy, you know this guy. He is perfectly safe and I will be fine. Besides, this isn’t even our first date.”
“Mom-” She tried to say something but was cut off by her own mother all but pushing her out of the house. She let out a shriek, stumbling along the porch.
“Go on your date, Y/N and don’t come back until your date is finished.” Joyce warned, closing and locking the front door. Her face was glaring at Y/N through one of the small windows at the top of their door, almost daring her not to go on the date. Huffing, Y/N turned on her heel and headed off to the car.
____
Joyce’s mysterious date had been pushed into the back of Y/N’s mind the second she saw Robin open her front door. Now, it wasn’t even a thought in her head, all her mind could focus on was the way she felt as Robin’s lips traced down her neck, pecking and sucking as they went. Airy moans left her mouth as she squirmed under her girlfriend, her nearly bare back rubbing against the cold backseat of the car. “Oh god-” She whimpered as Robin’s lips travelled lower, dancing dangerously along the cup of her bra, her fingertips just barely slipping under the underwire. “Oh god!” She gasped when her eyes fluttered open after seeing the flash of red and blue hues on her eyelids.
“Am I making you feel good, baby?” Robin pulled her lips from Y/N breast, looking up at her flirtatiously thinking her exclamation was from pleasure, not fear. Her face fell when she noted the wideness of Y/N’s eyes and flashing lights reflecting off her glistening face.
“That’s fucking Hopper,” Y/N hissed as they both scrambled to sit up, Y/N’s arms crossed over her bra-clad chest. They both tried to squint through the fogged-up back windshield, seeing two figures getting out of the car, the beam of a flashlight clicking on. “Shit, where is my shirt?” She panicked, looking around until Robin threw it at her.
“Duck,” Robin pushed Y/N and herself down as the beam of the flashlight swept over the back window. Grunting, Y/N tried to wiggle around and pull the shirt over her head as Robin watched the beam of light. “He’s looking in the woods, let’s crawl out the front seats!” Robin ushered her, letting her crawl over the console first.
“Something tells me we’re not gonna make it to the front seat,” Y/N trailed off as her eyes squinted at the brightness of the flashlight pointed right at her through the driver’s side window. “Hi, Hop,” She smiled, waving awkwardly. In response, Hopper simply pulled the backseat door open, revealing Joyce standing there, looking confused. “Mom, what are you doing here? I thought you were out on a date?” Y/N froze, her knee digging uncomfortably into the middle console.
“I am on my date, we were heading to the restaurant after the movie when we saw the car looking abandoned.” Joyce explained.
“Your date was with Hopper? You’re dating Hopper?” Y/N asked, shocked as she crawled out of the backseat, Robin following closely.
“You didn’t know that?” Robin asked her as if it was obvious.
“No!”
“Your date was with Robin?” Joyce ignored the two girls, her brows furrowed.
“You didn’t know they were dating?” Hopper looked at Joyce as he pointed his finger at the pair.
“No idea.” Joyce shook her head.
“You two are really oblivious. Everyone knew both of these things,” Hopper informed them with a laugh, earning two glares from Y/N and Joyce. “Well, anyway, we’ve got a reservation-”
“Wait,” Joyce interrupted him. “I thought you guys were just friends-” Joyce pointed to Y/N and Robin who both shrugged sheepishly. “Why didn’t you tell me?” She asked her daughter, slightly embarrassed for not realizing and a bit let down that she didn’t tell her.
“I thought you knew.”
“Well, now that I do know, I want to get to know Robin as your girlfriend so would you guys like to accompany us to our dinner reservations?” Joyce asked, her eyes wide as she hoped her daughter would say yes. She always knew that she liked girls, but she had no idea they were dating.
“Only if I get to drill Hopper with questions to make sure he’s good enough for you.” Y/N playfully glared at Hopper, narrowing her eyes at him.
“Deal.” Joyce nodded firmly.

Talk to us girl! What else do you have to say about El's arcs through the seasons and motherly love? I want to hear THIS content, f*ck all the ship wars!!
i’m so sorry this took actual months to reply to, i’m not gonna get into why just.... hi anon, ty for your patience 😭 tbh i'm not sure if i'm saying anything new, but this is almost 3k words long so hopefully i'm offering something
a few things to note before i delve into everything, bc this is a gendered topic:
el identifies w femininity, even after being raised in a lab w just a number as a name, essentially raised w/o any real gender constructs set in place, or at least not enough to understand gender fundamentally. but she identifies w femininity, as seen in the way she gravitates to feminine symbols in her surroundings. and it's interesting how her relationships w female characters are always given a bit of attention
the way fathers are portrayed on this show is... notable. we've got el's father figure brenner, as well as kali's relationship w brenner, steve's dad is apparently an asshole, ted is ted (not the worst but isn't much anyways), billy's dad been abusive his whole stay, lonnie is a danger to society, and hopper, although arguably redeemable and has been given more attention since he's a central character…… hasn't been the best all the way through. lucas' dad was p alright and dustin……… doesn't have one 🙃
meanwhile we got joyce who's the best parent in this entire show PERIOD absolutely beautiful amazing talented show-stopping etc etc, there's karen who almost slept w a minor but made a last minute decision not to (karen is a work in progress and i have a lot of thoughts about her i'm not gonna get into), dustin's mom is cute (a bit dopey but cute), lucas' mom is also cute, billy's mom is practically portrayed as an angel, and terry……… poor poor terry.
anyways there's a very clear difference.
st1
the topic of el and motherhood doesn’t really get tackled until st2, but i'm gonna go through this season by season. bc, spoiler alert, i'm fairly certain joyce will be el's mother/mother figure once the show's wrapped up. we can even say that's already happened after st3's ending, but ofc we're still in need of more personal relationship development.
basically, i believe el's relationship w motherhood, and her idea of mothers has a lot to do w joyce.
joyce is essentially el's "standard" (for lack of a better term) for what a mother is supposed to be.
someone might have to correct me on this, but i like to think that joyce is the first example of motherly love that el truly experiences (other than briefly seeing terry in the lab). not even when they first meet tho, but when the boys sneak el into the school and she "channels" will through the p.a. system.
when she hears joyce trying to comfort will and tell him to hide (which in itself messes me up bc depending on your take on the demogorgon, that shit is heart wrenching), i can only imagine what el might be thinking. what will has in joyce is completely different from what el has in brenner 😭
el's (as well as the show's tbh) view of fathers are very different from her view of mothers. fathers are demanding, ruthless, and cold. but she sees joyce, and she thinks mothers are passionate, caring, and protective, and all of that translates through a p.a. system when el hears joyce's desperation. i'm sure el sees a lot of herself in will - his fear and desperation, his terror of being in the upside down, describing it as cold and dark, just like the chamber brenner locks her in, or even the void, the water tank, her own room even - which only makes joyce's impression on her so much stronger.
and in ep7 'the bathtub' when el gets to have a one-on-one w joyce, there are certain points in that scene that parallel her and brenner, and i think that only hammers home el's idea of what mothers are and what they should be.
joyce promises her a presence. joyce is able to be there for her, comfort her, even when el is in a place like the void, that's just emptiness and darkness all around. she hears joyce's voice, and for once she's not alone. and it's nice to think she's w joyce and will in these moments, when she's in castle byers and she can act as a connection to will and joyce (a-and jonathan, sorry i don't really mention him throughout this piece, i didn't even expect to mention will this much, but jon's important too, we love a parental big brother).
it's shown how scared el can be moment to moment. the second will fades from her, she cries for him and curls up into a ball, and once she's out of the upside she latches onto joyce - and gosh the dependability!! joyce is there for her just like she promised.
this makes el meeting her own mother fuking heartbreaking.
st2
this idea of a mother sticks w el this whole time, and her idea of fathers doesn't get any better. i don't think el even pictures hopper as any kind of father figure, definitely not yet, but as a "friend," hence her shouting at him "friends don't lie". it's not until they're fighting and she shouts "you are like papa!" that it all comes full fuking circle!!
(it's the way hopper leaves her alone for hours, like how brenner isolates her in a dark chamber. it’s how in both instances, she’s still isolated from society. it's the way hopper sets rules for her that don’t allow to act instinctively on her own. it's him telling her "you wanna go back in the lab? i can make that happen." it's damaging shit. it's triggering.)
then el finds out that hopper lies to her again, but this time it's about her mother, which……..
that scene of her breaking down, crying for her mama, is so sad. idk what else to say, everything that happens from this point on is sad!!!!!!!
fast forward to el reaching terry and becky's house. i can't even imagine what el feels when she meets her mom for the first time……… and terry is in the state that she's in. barely responsive.
but i can say how el's guilt is continuously brought up time and time again, bc when she sees terry's memories and sees how determined terry was to get her back, the lengths she went through - it's all just like joyce. her expectations of a mother stays intact.
only, unlike joyce and will, things don't work out in the end for el and terry. terry suffers for trying to get el back. and it wouldn’t be surprising if that fed into el’s guilt.
(also, this has bothered me ever since first watch, but terry is portrayed w a bit of hostility when el returns. when el meets her in the void, and she's says she's home, terry tells her "no" and grabs her arm, triggering terry's memories. it's lead me to ask myself if terry holds resentment for el, and for the price terry had to pay....... or maybe it was just for dramatic scary horror, i’m not entirely sure.)
there's this moment right after el comes out of the void and back into reality, and becky tries to comfort her. bc of terry's unavailability, it's a possibility that becky could've been the mother figure that el needed. but the awkwardness in this moment - in how terry tries to comfort el, but el is still visibly shook and doesn't hug back, unlike her moment w joyce in st1, when el practically clings to her - kinda foreshadows how things just aren't gonna work out so ideally.
this next bit regarding el avenging terry may or may not be a lil "out there" but i think it's interesting to think about.
el views finding kali as something terry wants her to do. and kali echoes that sentiment. kali essentially acts as this one last tether el has to terry, which may be why she thinks of kail as a sister.
i have a lot of thoughts about el's self worth, her morality, her means of protecting others no matter what she suffers. i’m not about to go on a tangent, but just to get the main idea out there: el straddles a line between viewing herself as a monster and viewing herself as a protector, and anything outside of that feels is out of her reach.
what kali gives her is a chance to sorta explore that monstrous side of herself - the side that is willing to hurt others, even when there's no one in immediate danger to protect.
but kali is her last tether to her mother. and what kali is asking her to do clashes w what she pictures a mother is meant to do. i'm not saying kali is some kind of mother figure, nor is that really the bigger picture. but finding kali is something terry "told" her to do. it all plays a part in the scene when they confront the man that followed brenner's orders, ray carrell.
would terry actually want this for el?
el sees a photo of that ray and his daughters, and reminds herself of what she wants, what she yearns for, and what she's been deprived of. the reason why she feels so much pain, and is having so much trouble healing. and she chooses to protect the children - to prioritize the children - instead of giving in to the monster inside of her planted by brenner.
kali has different values. she's chosen a different path for herself. we're never really sure what kali knows about her own past, who she's met in her life, but we do know that she's lost people, and she doesn't have much of a connection to terry despite el considering her a sister.
and that comes full circle when kali makes el see brenner.
the words brenner uses here are technically just kali's words, since she told el the same things and brenner in this scene is just an image created by kali. but that's what makes this scene so brilliant. this scene is kali talking to el, but she’s masked as brenner.
brenner tells people they're sick. kali still believes she's sick. kali hasn't healed despite claiming to - instead she's become a mirror to brenner.
this is el's view of fatherhood: demanding, ruthless, and cold. brenner hurt el, and bc of all that hardship, el is in danger of becoming a mirror to brenner. and unfortunately, this is what kali has succumbed to. kali has failed to realize the monster she's so convinced that she is, is a concept completely fabricated by brenner.
this is what leads el back to her friends. just like how terry did everything in her power to save el and suffered devastating consequences, el returns to her friends to wholeheartedly put herself in that very position.
it's so touching to see el and joyce hug. although, joyce is still "will's mom" to el (she even refers to her as such in st3). but she still holds that connection to the byers family. el still prioritizes will's safety, just as she prioritized the kids back in chicago.
now to briefly cover what el and hopper's reconciliation means for this topic - it's a very vulnerable scene. one of the most vulnerable scenes in the entire show. el and hopper allow themselves to understand and relate to each other, through guilt and trauma and emotion, and bc of the profound impact of this conversation, hopper is…… enough. it’s still uncertain that el considers hopper as a father figure, but at this point she lost her mother, and she lost kali, and hopper lost sarah. they have each other though. and it gives both of them the chance to finally begin to heal.
el channels the anger she feels being deprived of a mother to close the gate. but the gate's essentially a scar still struggling to heal.
st3
it may be a mystery to no one that i'm not a big fan of st3, and there's not a lot to talk about in terms of el and joyce. couple notes about them tho, before we get into the real shit that happened this season
hopper asks if joyce could talk to el and mike for him, which she turns down, so they're deliberately being kept apart by the writers (i also feel like we have v limited knowledge of what joyce thinks of el, so she might be keeping her distance for reasons i'm not really sure of yet).
it's cute to think about how hopper's letter isn't just hopper's letter, but it's joyce's letter to el as well. el just doesn't know it.
let's talk about billy's mom.
el's relationships w female characters on this show always seem to be given a lil extra layer. and el's immediate draw towards billy's mom is so charming to watch. she calls her "pretty" and feels as if she's is looking at her, all before she even finds out who the woman is.
once again, the standard for motherhood on this show is enforced by billy's mom and her literal angel-like presence. she's good to billy, she allows him the freedom of doing what he loves, but not before warning him that dad might get mad!! great!!
billy goes through very similar phases that el went through
his father is abusive, and hurts both billy and the mother
billy loses his mom
the lack of proximity to his mom eventually leads him to mirror the toxicity of his father
the moments that el seems to recognize rather quickly are when billy's dad is being abusive, billy desperately wanting his mom to come home, and billy quickly succumbing to toxicity.
we've explored this pattern in previous seasons, so it's pretty easy to piece together, even within a quick montage.
so when el has her moment w billy, reminding him of his mom, it's so incredibly powerful. when you think about how much this moment upon, after everything that happened in the previous 2 seasons, it just hits.
just as we've discussed how motherhood throughout the show has meant prioritizing the safety of the ones you care about and protecting them against all odds, billy protects el from the mind flayer to the point of self sacrifice.
(and while i may not agree that it completely works just bc of how i feel about billy as a character, it works to tie in all these themes really well. also i'm sure there's other kinds of readings you can do on this scene, i even thought about this scene completely differently a couple months back but ANYWAYS-)
honestly, the way el comforts max in this scene...... feels kinda motherly. there's definitely something to be said about how el's not always treated as just a child - despite still learning speech, she's still been forced to grow up in other aspects of herself, and she constantly puts herself in a position to protect others. but this scene w el and max is sweet, and it's nice that max has el for that moment before el eventually moves away w the byers.
and ofc, el loses hopper this season, which in her mind leaves her parentless. joyce is there regardless (tho joyce taking over for hopper and watching over el does kinda happen in a "no explanation needed" kinda way, and i'm not really sure how i feel about that).
joyce and el have still quite a ways to go before really developing the mother-daughter relationship that feels inevitable at this point. and after hopper's death, the way this season ended, and the way joyce and el interact, there's a bit of uncertainty as to how their relationship will develop. even after the 3 month jump, they come off as rather distant from each other.
nut yeah, i'm excited for st4. after engaging in all the ship wars, and having my own gripes w how the duffers write romance, i think i'm starting to fall back in love w this show. writing this has definitely made me feel happier about the show, and made me feel excited about certain aspects of the show that might've been in the back of my mind, but now it's all at the forefront.
i really do love el as a character, and joyce might be a very close second, if not at the same level as el. their stories have been leading towards each other since the beginning and i can't wait until we get the payoff.
i hope someone reads this lol. again i’m sorry this took months......... depression uh anon, i hope this is what you wanted 😂 and if anyone feels compelled to add on feel free to do so 😊………. hopefully it's positive lol

Chapter Eight: A Turkey Dance
Pairing: Steve Harrington x OC
Chapter Summary: After a little while, Thanksgiving has finally decided to show up. It causes Annie to have some realizations about everything around her.
Word Count: 3.2k
Warnings: Swearing, mentions of trauma, dysfunctional family stuff
A/N: Howdy, not gonna lie, I’ve run out of motivation over the last month. I’ve got up through chapter sixteen written, but reblogs and comments are the best way to help me get that motivation! Also, school’s starting for me tomorrow so that is definitely going to come before this fic. Anyways, if you’d like to see the other parts of the fic you can go here.
~*~*~*~
Thanksgiving was ordinarily a good enough holiday. There was food and a parade to watch plus a cute dog show afterwards. Annie's parents were never into football, so she never had to put up with watching the sport. However, this year was a little different than other years.
By a little different, that meant it was a huge difference. Initially, she assumed that it would just be her mom and herself sitting in front of the television and watching whatever was on.
Now, Annie wasn't against her mom dating someone else, but introducing the guy at Thanksgiving just felt a little bit weird to her. It could have been worse, though. The guy could have been a complete dick and Annie would have purposely made the day a living hell for everyone.
Fortunately, Scott Clarke was a nice guy. There wasn't any way around it. A part of Annie wanted to just hate him, but it was easy to like the middle school science teacher. How he and her mom met was beyond her, but her mom seemed pretty happy about it.
Steve told her to just give him a call if things got unbearable. His parents would be around, but he swore he would make up an excuse to help her out. What were friends for if not saving what was originally a well-liked holiday?
Everything was pretty nice that morning. Annie was working on baking a pumpkin pie and was making some mashed sweet potatoes. That was about the extent of her cooking ability. The pie was easy, she just had to pour a few cans of mix into the premade crust and make sure it didn't burn. The sweet potatoes were just the anomaly of being able to cook one thing decently enough.
"I've heard a lot about you from your mom," Scott said.
Annie nodded as she poured in the pie filling, "Yeah, I've heard a bit about you from some kids I know."
"Which kids?"
"Um... I think they're your AV kids? Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will, and I think Max is in there, right?"
"Yes, you'd be correct," he grinned, "They're a bright group. How do you know them?"
"Um..." she paused, realizing she couldn't explain the real circumstances, "I helped babysit them a couple of times."
It was obvious that Scott was trying and Annie had to give him some credit. From how the kids talked about him, he was a smart and nice guy. While she wasn't ordinarily inclined to trust the judgement of a bunch of eighth graders, she trusted those kids.
While this wasn't the Thanksgiving Annie had counted on, it wasn't warranting a call to Steve. However, when the doorbell rang, a few alarms automatically went off in Annie's brain.
She went over to open the door and saw none other than Carter Hardwick. Already, she could feel her stomach twisting in knots. As nice of a guy as Scott was, she doubted that he dad would take well to him. Hypocritical yes, but what was a shitty parent if not just that?
"Anne, aren't you happy to see me?" he asked.
Annie forced a smile, "Uh yeah! Just um- just a bit unexpected."
"Well, I wrote."
Maybe she shouldn't have burned those letters after all.
Begrudgingly, she let her dad into the house. What other choice did she have? If her mom wanted to force him out, she wouldn't stop her. However, Annie was all too aware that she had no way of telling anyone what to do in this situation.
"And who's this?" her dad asked, nodding at Scott.
"Mom's new boyfriend," she said, her brain simply short-circuiting.
How couldn’t that have happened? The way her dad stared at the other man made Annie want to crawl into a hole. Thankfully, her mom came out into the living room. There was no hiding the look of disdain on her face. It was even more obvious when her mom asked him to talk with her for a moment.
He shrugged, "I'm sure whatever you have to say to me can be heard by our daughter and whatever asshole you've got over here."
"I'm speaking to you alone," her mom insisted.
That left the living room with only Scott and Annie. They both decided to just watch the dog show going on in front of them. Erik hopped onto the arm of the couch and Annie busied herself with petting him.
"So what's that little guy's name?" he asked.
"Oh, this is Erik. He's the family cat, but he likes me the most. Probably because I'm the most relaxed one in the house, I guess."
He nodded, "Poor, poor Erik."
"Wait... you've read Phantom?"
"Well, of course. It has some of the most amazing scientific ideas for the time!"
She thought a moment before nodding, "Yeah, I guess you're right."
While Annie wasn't sure what to think of her mom dating someone, she was at least glad this guy was nicer than her dad. The contrast was obvious when her parents both walked out.
"Anne, you'll be happy to know your good-ole dad's gonna be here for the day," her dad said as she dodged him ruffling her hair.
"You're not my dad," she said plainly before her eyes widened a bit.
That wasn't something she counted on coming out of her mouth, but she wasn't about to take it back. Technically, she was right. Neither of her parents were biological. Still, they took care of her like they were. Except, with all the things her dad had said and done in the past, she knew she could hold that lack of biology against him as long as she wanted.
"Go to your room!" he snapped.
Annie let out a laugh, "Are you serious?! You don't even live here! If you actually wanted to be a good dad you would... you- well you would pay the damn child support once in a while! You only have to make thirteen of them!"
"Annette!" her mom said, "I think you could use a moment to cool off."
That was the nicest way her mom could tell her to go to her room. Maybe she hit a nerve or two, but Annie knew she hadn't said anything that wasn't already true. There wasn't any use in arguing, though. Not when she almost wanted out of the situation. She picked up her cat and took him to her room with her.
This was the exact sort of thing she was supposed to call Steve over. So she took the phone in her room and dialed his number. As it turned out, Steve did have a phone in his room. One which they had both completely neglected that night a few weeks ago. A night she wasn't over by any means. She hadn't told her mom about any of it, and she knew that she probably would never be able to explain it. It still stuck around in her head. The inter-dimensional and the real things that happened just wouldn't leave.
She let out a sigh as she heard the phone ringing and she twisted the phone cord around her finger.
"Hello?"
"Steve?"
"It's not even noon yet," he said, almost laughing, "That bad already?"
Annie chewed on her lip, "My dad made a surprise visit... I kinda told him he's not my dad and to pay the child support for once."
"Oh shit..." he sighed, "I'd try to come and get you but um- my parents sprung a surprise trip to my aunt's on me."
"That- that's fine, I get it. You gotta see your family."
"If it's any consolation, I'll wish I'm not there. I'd really prefer to hang out with you."
She smiled a bit, "That's nice... I'd rather hang out with you too. Of course, I'd rather hang out with a cockroach than be stuck here."
"Well, if I make it back early enough, maybe I can make something work," he suggested.
"I'd like that a lot."
There was shouting in the background of Steve's end, "Uh I gotta go. Good luck, though."
"Thanks um- you too."
Then the phone clicked off and Annie set her own on the receiver. Admittedly, she almost counted on hanging out with Steve. Aside from the kids, there really wasn't anyone else she spent a lot of time with.
The thought of him trying to come over later did make her feel special. Not that she was about to say so. It was normal, they sort of just had each other. She didn't have any friends to begin with and she knew Steve would sooner die than third wheel his ex all the time.
Aside from sort of being social outcasts and dealing with the Upside Down together, what did they have in common in the first place? Maybe they had a similar sense of humor and similar music tastes, but almost anyone could have those things in common. They were just friends and Annie knew that didn't mean they had to do anything more than that.
Either way, Annie knew that she wasn't going to bother with leaving her room until someone told her to. Continuing on with her reading of War and Peace was fine with her. Contrary to her dad's opinions, she thought it was an interesting book.
A part of her was almost too invested in some of the drama of it all. What with Natasha now being tempted by Anatole as Sonya tried to be a good and loyal cousin as well as a friend. It had her reading the pages as quickly as she could. Though, a huge factor in getting through the book as quickly as she was had to be waking up in the middle of the night.
The nightmares didn't happen every night, but it wouldn't have made much of a difference either way. It was too much for her to deal with. While Steve wanted her to talk about it with him, she still didn't say much about it.
"Annie?" her mom knocked at her door.
She marked her book, "What's up?"
The door opened as her mom stepped inside, "You know, I think we still need a couple of things from the grocery store."
"Wait," she looked over the list being handed to her, "I thought we had-"
Her mom cut her off, "We're gonna run out soon. Just take your time, alright? There's no rush."
"Oh, okay."
This happened often enough when they lived in New York. If tensions got really high, her mom would send her out somewhere to do something. That didn't mean she missed out on all the yelling and arguing, though.
Still, it was enough for Annie to take the hint and grab her red, fleece-lined jacket off a hanger and left the house without saying anything. She was almost positive they didn't need any of this. They had more than enough butter and Annie could barely stand Stove Top stuffing in the first place.
She walked rather aimlessly, though she was headed toward the town. If she were too aimless, she would have ended up in the woods. As bright as the day seemed, she still didn't trust herself to go there alone.
Besides, she still hadn't found her switchblade since trying to fight Billy. A part of her thought it was possible he had it. Though, it was just as likely that it was in some obscure place of the Byers' house. She didn't want to go back there any time soon. It wasn't that she had anything against the family, but the thought of going back into the house or stepping into the living room? That was out of the question.
A part of her wished she had some way to actually make Billy pay for everything he did. The problem was that there wasn't any way to do that without giving away everything else. Not that she could think of, anyway. And who knows, maybe she didn't interpret everything properly. Maybe he hadn't done anything.
Her hands clenched inside her jacket pockets as she continued walking. A part of her wanted to tell her mom at the very least. The closest that got was when her mom saw the scar that the cut she got on her face left behind. She blamed it on getting into a bit of an altercation with Erik.
After walking for some time, Annie found her way to a small park. Someone was sitting on the swings. She could see the red hair from pretty far off, but she was unsure of who it was. Though, the closer she got, the more certain she was.
"Max? What're you doing out here?" she asked, sitting on the other swing.
Max looked over to her, "Um... just hanging out."
"None of the guys are available?" she asked.
Max shook her head, "It's Thanksgiving, everyone's with their families."
"Yeah? Well, then what're you doing out here? It's a bit chilly."
"Um..." Max let out a sigh, "You know how the whole divorced kid thing goes. It's my first Thanksgiving without my dad around and Neil and Billy are... um... they're being themselves."
Annie frowned, "They're not hurting you are they? Because if they are I-"
"No, not like that. After I almost hit Billy's nuts with that bat he's been a bit better. It still um- it scares me sometimes, though.
She nodded, "I guess that makes sense. I wish I could look forward to my dad showing up out of nowhere today, but that guy's a dick."
"Oh, was it just gonna be you and your mom?"
"And your science teacher."
"Mr. Clarke?!" Max exclaimed, laughing, "You're kidding!"
She laughed along with Max, "I'm not- I mean, having my mom date some guy like this is weird, but- but I guess things could be a lot worse, you know? Well, before my dad showed up and managed to make it awkward for everyone."
"Oh, that sucks. Sorry, I just don't know what else would help you."
Annie shook her head, "That's alright. You're, like, thirteen? You don't need to worry about helping me."
The both of them stuck around and talked to each other for a while. They managed to avoid actually talking about the awful things Billy had done. Likely because neither of them were prepared for a conversation like that. At the very least, Annie knew that just thinking about talking about that with anyone was enough to make her nauseous.
Eventually, it was for the best that Max went home, so Annie walked her back before turning around and heading back to her own house. She would have to face everything there eventually. But maybe her dad decided to buzz off by that point.
There was no such luck, though. As awkward as it was for her, she gave Scott props for not finding an excuse to get out of the house until the meal was over. If she were him, she  would have faked a family emergency in a heartbeat. Though, it was possible that he was just a better person than she was. Lots of people were.
"So, Anne, I've heard you're reading War and Peace," her dad said as they all sat around eating pie.
Annie nodded, "Yep."
"I don't understand why you would bother. I've already told you all the reasons it's a waste of time."
Annie set down her fork before looking over at him, "Maybe I started to realize you compulsively lie about everything. Oh, or maybe I realized people have different tastes from you. Hm, maybe it's the fact that I couldn't give a shit about your opinion of me after everything you've done."
"Language, young lady! Elsa, is this really what you're letting our daughter get away with?"
"I'm not your kid! If I were, you wouldn't send me a ten page letter about how I-"
"Cut it out! Both of you," her mom snapped, "Look, I'm not about to kick my own daughter out of my house, but Carter? I've done nothing but try to make this day decent and, frankly, I'm tired of that. I need you to leave."
Annie focused on her pie as her mom and dad headed out of the kitchen. It beat getting told to quiet down or to stop rambling. Although, it was clear the enjoyment of silence wasn't mutual.
"This pie is great," Scott told her.
She forced a smile, "Thanks... my mom ended up doing most of the work this year, though."
"You know, I hope you don't think I'm intruding on anything. I know this wasn't the best time to try and introduce myself."
"Look, I'm gonna be honest with you. Having my mom date someone is super weird, but I don't hate you. That being said, if you even so much as think about hurting my mom, I'll find a way to make your life a living hell."
Eventually, Annie was able to go back to her room for reasons other than getting into it with her dad. It was nearly midnight and she was focused on the book in front of her as she sat in her bed. There wasn't any school the next day, so she didn't worry about what time she went to bed.
Her distracted state didn't last long when she heard something knock on the window. When she looked out she only saw a shadowy figure outside and her eyes widened. Though, looking closer, it was obviously just Steve.
She opened the door, though she did so a bit sheepishly. How could she have been so easily scared by her closest friend? Steve slid in quietly, though there was a bit of tumbling in since her bed was right under her window. If he got his shoes on her light grey comforter, she would have probably screamed.
He grinned, "Told ya I'd come over."
"Steve, I- I wish you'd told me first," she said.
His smile faded a bit, "I can leave if-"
"No, sorry, just," she sighed, "I don't know, everything just really sucks right now."
There was a long pause before Annie let herself say what happened that day. She wished today could have been normal. That every day could be normal. If that meant her life was boring then so be it. Maybe all the boring people had it right.
"That's really shitty," Steve said, looking at her.
"Yeah."
"Hey, maybe it'll get better."
"Maybe."
A few more minutes and Steve was doing everything he could to get Annie to laugh. It took a solid half hour to get a real laugh out of her, but he did it. After getting her a bit more distracted, they ended up talking about everything except the things they should have probably talked about.
Instead, it meant both of them staying up until the clock in Annie's room read that it was nearly three in the morning. It was around that point that Steve passed out in the chair next to her desk and Annie was only partially on the bed with her head and torso laid out on the carpet and her legs on the mattress.

And Eleven ask them both were do babies come from so they have to explain to her. Then fast forward to him months later the whole party meets Steve and the reader's baby”
anonymous: “could i get a steve harrington x hopper!reader (hop and joyce dating ? possibly ?)where they tell hop joyce and el that they are pregnant over dinner ? please”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You had scheduled a family dinner with the whole Hopper gang. Steve and you had big news! Things in your family’s life had settled down after the last couple of years, but they were about to get a whole lot more interesting now.
Joyce cooked dinner and El helped set the table. Hopper was in charge of staying out of the way because last time they let him cook, he burned the fries and threw the pan out the front door. He ended up tidying the house a little. He had to make it look nice for his babygirl. There was a knock at the door and Hop rushed to answer. The door flung open and you and Steve stood there with a plate of cookies and a bottle of whiskey. You dad pulled you into a giant bear hug.
“It’s good to see you, honey.” He told you.
“You, too. I only saw you two days ago to go bowling. It’s been too long.” You joked sarcastically. Hopper gave Steve a hug and Steve handed him the gifts.
“Oh, perfect! Let’s break this out for dinner.” Your dad walked to the kitchen and got out a few glasses. You greeted El and Joyce with a hug and helped them set out the food. Once everything was in order, you finally got to sit down with your family and have a nice meal. “So, y/n, what’s new?” Hop asked. You hadn’t touched your glass of whiskey, and he was a little suspicious. Steve eyed you, wondering if you were going to break the news.
“Oh, nothing. Work’s good, the dog’s a handful, Steve and I are working on the house.” You told your dad, and he smiled proudly. Steve let a silent sigh of relief escape his lips and you grabbed his hand under the table. He squeezed you hand tight, you could feel his leg bouncing underneath the table.
“How’s the house coming along?” Joyce asked. “I’d love to see it sometime!” She took a bite of her lasagna.
“We’d love for you guys to come over soon, that’d be great. Then we could be the hosts for a change.” Steve laughed nervously, trying to distract himself from the truth bomb about to drop.
“You haven’t touched your glass yet, is something wrong?” Your dad asked. You stared blankly at him.
“Oh, no, I just want to be sober for the drive home.” You explained. Your dad nodded and went back to his plate. “So El, how’s home schooling?”
“Almost done!” She gave a triumphant smile to the table. The five of you finished your plates and sat around the table, talking and joking around with each other. Now was the best time to share the news.
“Ready?” Steve asked, placing a hand on your shoulder. You nodded. “We have an announcement...” Hop, Joyce, and El went silent, staring at the pair of you.
“We’re pregnant!” You told your family. Joyce and El cheered and got up to hug you.
“Congratulations, sweetie!” Joyce cupped your face. “You’re gonna make a wonderful mother.” El was ecstatic, she was going to be an aunt!
“Y/N, where do babies come from?” She asked you innocently. You and Joyce stared at El with your eyebrows furrowed and eyes wide. “I’m kidding, I’m kidding, I just wanted to get a reaction!” You all burst into laughter, but quickly realized you dad hadn’t said a word yet. All he did was grab you glass of whiskey and down it as fast as he could, then stare at the table, hands folded together.
“Steve, can I speak to you outside?” Your dad muttered and got out of his chair. Steve gulped and followed him out the door. You, your sister, and Joyce sat near the TV and talked about all different kinds of details regarding your pregnancy.
“If you need anything at all, come to me. I’ve had two kids, I know a lot about the miracle of birth and all that other stuff. Development and care? Got it. Anything you need.” She assured. You were glad to have her. And your sister was curious to see how this would go, she hadn’t ever held a baby before, so that was her main focus.
Meanwhile, on the porch:
“So you got my daughter knocked up?” Hopper paced back and forth.
“Not—Not exactly, sir. I mean, no, it wasn’t planned, but now we have a plan.” Steve explained to his father-in-law.
“And what is that plan?” Hopper towered over your husband.
“Raise the kid, love the kid, be there for the kid.” He told your father. “That’s what matters to me.” Hopper started pacing again. “Look, Mr. Hopper, you’re gonna be a grandpa! Popper! Grandhop! Whatever you want to be called!” Hopper froze and turned toward Steve. He approached his son-in-law and pulled him into a hug.
“You’re gonna be a great dad, Harrington.” Hop whispered in his ear. Steve hugged back.
“Thank you.” The two of them came back inside and your dad headed straight towards you to congratulate you and give you the biggest hug he could. “Don’t hurt the baby!” Steve joked. Your dad cried, you cried, Joyce cried, Steve cried, El was just super excited. Couldn’t even wipe the smile off her face. You said your goodbyes to your dad and the rest of your family and headed back home. You were happy with the outcome of tonight. “So, we tell the children tomorrow morning and my parents tomorrow night?” He asked.
“Sounds about right.”
—————
You had all the kids gather at Dustin’s house. His mom had basically taken you and Steve in because Dustin was always making you guys come over. Everyone sat together in the living room. Ms. Henderson, Dustin, Lucas, Will, Max, Mike, and El. She wanted to hear the news again and brag about how she got to know first.
“Alright guys, drumroll, please.” Dustin started beating on his legs. “Y/N’s pregnant!” Steve announced. Everyone immediately started losing their shit. El was contently watching the crowd go wild.
“Does that mean I get to be an uncle?” Dustin asked.
“You’re my son, Dustin. You’re the kid’s brother.” Steve explained.
“I’m gonna be an uncle!” Dustin jumped on the couch.
“Dusty! What did I tell you about shoes on the couch?” Ms. Henderson warned.
“Sorry mom!” Dustin sat next to Steve and talked about how excited he was. Max sat next to you and couldn’t contain her excitement.
“You’re not playing a joke on us, right?” She asked and you shook your head. “Good, because this is awesome!” She shook you around playfully. “I can be an aunt, right?”
“Yes, you can be an aunt.” You approved and Max began to cheer.
“Why isn’t El jumping around with us?” She asked.
“We told El last night, she just came here to rub in the fact that she knew first.” Steve grabbed your hand.
“Are you ready to go? We’ve gotta get ready for dinner at my parents place. You know they like to start early.” He told you. You said goodbye to your family of delinquents and got in the car. You quickly started crying. “Hey, hey, what’s wrong?” Steve grabbed your hand and leaned towards you.
“Nothing, I’m just excited. Soon were gonna have an actual child. And it’s gonna grow and be like them. And I love them. I cant wait.”
—————
Everyone was gathered in the hospital, waiting for Steve to come with some news. He finally ran out the double doors and met with the group.
“So? Tell us everything!” Lucas exclaimed. Hopper and Joyce were beaming and getting a little impatient, they wanted to see their grandbaby!
“It’s a girl! Eight pounds, five ounces. Tiny toes, little nose. Guys, I’m gonna cry!” Steve jumped around. Everyone hoarded around him to give him the biggest hug they could muster. “I’ve gotta get back to y/n! You’ll be able to see the baby soon!” He ran back to you and awaited the baby’s return from her checkup. After a while, the baby was back and Steve brought everyone in to see her. They were all in awe of how adorable she was. You knew how much El was wanting to hold her, so you carefully handed her over while Steve helped.
“Does she have a name?” Joyce asked, teary eyed.
“Still haven’t got that figured out yet...”

Hopper cradled Joyce’s sobbing face in his hands and wiped her fast-flowing tears with gentle thumbs as he smiled down at her. She was covered in dust and dirt with blood dripping from a scratch above her eyebrow but she was alive and safe and Hopper couldn’t ask for anything more.
“Hopper,” she choked out desperately, “Jim, I thought I lost you forever.”
“You could never lose me, Joyce. Finding my way back to you is kinda what I do.”
She laughed and choked on a sob and he pulled her into his chest for a warm hug. He rocked her gently, leaning down to kiss the top of her head as he took in the moment and the reality of the woman he loves being alive. At the sound of a branch cracking, Joyce and Hopper pulled away, Joyce with her hands raised to punch and Hopper reaching back for his gun. They thought they had cleared this area of evil scientists, but the battle wasn’t over yet.
Instead of being greeted by the enemy, Will, Mike, and Dustin came tumbling through the trees gasping for breath. They halted when they saw Hopper and Joyce, who ran straight to her son and pulled him into her arms. Hopper smiled softly at the scene before turning back to Mike and Dustin. Mike was watching the Byers hug with an softness in his face Hopper only remembered seeing once before early on when Mike and El started dating. Dustin was smirking and he nudged Mike, who blinked his way out of his stupor and sent his friend a glare before realizing Hopper was still there.
“Chief,” the brat said haughtily, “it’s nice to see you alive.”
“Likewise, Michael.”
“I’d love to stay and chat but we need to go get El and find the others before Brenner can start unleashing more monsters.” Dustin tugged on Mike’s arm and pulled him toward Will. “Will, are you good to use your electricity stuff? Lucas said he found the power box outside and Mike and I can grab El while you do your thing.”
Will, who was holding his mom somewhat protectively but let her go at Dustin’s words, nodded. “Yeah, I got it. I can do it.”
“Will,” started Mike carefully, “don’t hurt yourself. We can’t lose you again.”
Hopper watched Will’s face melt into something even more gentle than what he had when he hugged his mom. “I’ll be fine, Mike. Trust me.”
“I do, always.”
Will smiled and squeezed Mike’s arm before turning to give Hopper a nod of recognition. The kid was running out east a second later and Mike turned to Joyce. “We’ll be back and meet up at your old place, yeah? We’re almost done with this shit for good.”
Joyce pulled Mike into a surprise hug and murmured something Hopper didn’t quite catch but it made Mike’s cheeks pink so he assumed she was probably thanking the boy for taking care of Will. Dustin and Mike soon made their way north and left Joyce and Hopper on their own.
The rest of the night went by in a blur but Hopper didn’t think he’d ever be able to forget seeing Will and El with linked hands and one hand each pointed out toward the Mind Flayer using paranormal powers together. Watching Will, who was so timid and quiet, stand up to a fucking demon, screaming and yelling with tears dripping down his face and blood dribbling from his nose made a mark on everyone, but Hopper especially. He wondered if Joyce was proud of Will for having powers, and then laughed at himself. Of course she would be proud.
Her son helped save the entire world from being destroyed by a psychotic demonic shadow force from another dimension. Everyone should be proud.
When both kids dropped to the floor with exhaustion, Mike rushed toward Will as Hopper ran to El. He missed her so much, missed hearing her laughter, missed seeing her smile, missed being able to show his daughter how much he loved her. Hopper cradled her and cried, wiping the blood from her nose with a gentle swipe. She looked so much more grown already in the time he had been captured and he hated that he couldn’t be there for her always like he promised.
El’s eyes flickered open and once she was able to focus, her face crumpled into tears and she launched herself into his arms with a sob. “Dad,” she cried into his neck. “Dad, you’re alive.”
Hopper couldn’t speak but he really tried to. All he could say was, “Yeah,” as they both cried in each other’s arms and took in the sweet relief brought by surviving a situation meant for death.
Things were easy afterwards. The Byers moved back and even though Joyce knew being here came with a lot of troubles, she couldn’t take splitting the Party or being separated from the life here. Hopper took her on that dinner, and in a few months time he was basically living with the Byers. Will and El had turned out to be the best of friends and tight knit siblings who would spend breakfast trying to see who could make Hopper’s pancakes float the longest.
Will always won that one, no thanks to Hopper teasing El until she lost concentration and started laughing.
Everything was a little too perfect so when Will gathered the family at dinner with nervousness in his eyes, Hopper knew some not-great news had to be coming down the pipeline.
“I need to tell you guys something,” he started hesitantly.
Hopper stiffened in his seat. “Don’t tell me you got some girl pregnant, Byers.”
Will, who Hopper had caught sneaking out far too many times, paled and shook his head. “N-no, Hop, that’s definitely not it. Actually, the opposite I guess.”
“You got a boy pregnant?” El blurted with awe in her voice. Will turned bright pink as Jonathan laughed and he quickly shut her down.
“No, no pregnancies. I just—I’m dating someone.” Will wrung his hands and took in a deep breath. “I want you to know I’m still me. I’m still Will no matter who I date.”
“Of course, sweetheart,” started Joyce, “you’re always you and we’ll always love you.”
The young boy’s eyes darted to Hopper before looking down at the ground. “Yeah, but I’m gay.”
Silence consumed the room only interspersed by the sound of Will’s heavy breathing. Joyce had a hand to her mouth but from the angle Hopper was at beside her, he could tell she was covering up a smile. El blinked twice, looked between Will and their parents, and then jumped out her seat to give Will a hug.
Will started but then collapsed into the hug as he returned it fiercely. El was smiling with her eyes closed as they pressed their foreheads together. They were obviously talking telepathically, which was so annoying, but they didn’t do it often as Will found it far too distressing to feel another voice in his head. The fact that it was happening now only meant El had to say something she wanted no one else to hear.
Hopper was still processing the fact that Will had been sneaking out to see a boy. He wasn’t sure how to feel about it exactly, but he was also unsure how to react positively enough to not seem like he hated Will for it. Will was literally speaking with his mind to his sister, which was far more abnormal than Will having a boyfriend. Still, Hopper couldn’t ignore the initial wave of discomfort that hit him at the fact that Will likes boys.
Jonathan climbed out his seat to join his younger siblings and Joyce turned to Hopper with pride in her smile and happy tears in her eyes. Hopper found it hard to keep feeling discomfort toward Will when Joyce looked at him like that. He let her tug him into a family hug and for a moment, Hopper felt tears sting the back of his eyes as he was once again reminded of the loving family he had become a part of so easily.
It took a month or so for Hopper to truly stop feeling the initial uncomfortable waves of dislike when Will would mention his boyfriend in passing. Mike started coming over more too, which was bothersome as usual. Hopper was over the moon that the damned kid wasn’t playing tonsil hockey with his daughter anymore, but his face was still the most annoying 16-year-old face to look at. Hopper definitely wasn’t keen on coming home from a long shift at the police department only to see Will and Mike playing games on the couch, but he couldn’t ever really stay mad when Will looked so happy to have Mike at his side.
“He’s a good kid, Jim,” Joyce reminded him one day when Hopper went on a small rant about Mike taking Will and El’s time away from him and Joyce. “He wants to spend time with his friends after watching them almost die all those months ago; there’s nothing wrong with that.”
“Maybe if Mike wasn’t his friend, there wouldn’t be a problem.”
“Hopper!” Joyce swatted his arm playfully and he chuckled before taking her hand in his and pulling her in. The vegetables on the stove were probably going to be roasted black but it would be worth the kisses shared between them at the moment.
It turned out that Mike wasn’t really Will’s friend anyway. Well, not just his friend.
“I think it’s time you guys met my boyfriend.” Will said one night right before dinner. El perked excitedly, Jonathan raised a curious eyebrow, and Hopper crossed his arms with narrowed eyes.
“This boyfriend of yours better understand that he’s not free from my wrath just because you’re a boy.”
Will snorted into his cup of milk and then spent a good minute coughing out what he accidentally inhaled. “I think he knows that pretty well.”
Joyce smiled sweetly and reached out to grab Will’s hand. “You should invite him for dinner one night.”
“I kinda already did.” Will looked over at the door and then smiled to himself. “He’ll be here in a minute.”
As if on cue, a knock rapped against the door. Hopper shot up to his feet and stomped his way over to the door, ready to give this kid a talk about how to treat his step-son. Hopper paused at that thought. He always thought of Will as Joyce’s son no matter how close he and Will had gotten, but this was the first time he thought of Will as his son, too. Hopper’s step-son was Will Byers; his step-son was gay, telepathic, telekinetic, electrokinetic, could walk between dimensions, and had a boyfriend.
Hopper’s step-son was so fucking badass. Yeah, he would definitely fight any boy who dared to break Will’s heart.
He opened the door, looked into shocked brown eyes, and then shut the door. “Will, why is your wretch of a friend here?”
“Mike?” Will rushed to Hopper’s side and yanked the door open. Mike was still standing on the porch but the anxiety in his posture disappeared when he made eye contact with Will. “Hey, you look good tonight.”
Mike was wearing a hoodie over his curled hair along with a pair of black jeans and simple kicks. He pushed a stray curl behind his pierced ear and laughed. “Yeah? Gotta look nice to meet the family, right? You look good, too,” he pointed out, “but you’re you so no surprise there.”
Hopper wanted to melt into the porch floorboards. Will though made things worse when he leaned forward to give Mike a chaste kiss on the cheek. Hopper’s sensibilities came crashing back to Earth with a dizzying speed.
“You’re dating Michael Wheeler?” He quickly turned on Mike. “You’re dating another one of my kids? Didn’t you have enough fun being an eyesore next to El?”
“Hopper!” Joyce yelled from back inside. Will was silently laughing behind his hand and Mike sent him a glare.
“I’m not an eyesore. You can ask El and Will yourself. No need to be jealous that your kids happen to have good taste.”
Will burst out into giggles and Hopper narrowed his eyes. “They have bad taste if you’re the one they fall for. Will, I need to teach you and your sister how to find a man.”
Mike’s jaw dropped and even El was giggling from the dinner table. Will wheezed and patted Hopper’s arm a couple times before reaching out for his boyfriend’s hand. “Thanks but no thanks, Hop. I’ve got all I could love right here with Mike.”
Mike blushed furiously and the look that passed between him and Will made Hopper’s breath catch in his throat. He had seen it before during the final battle against the Upside Down. In fact, he’d seen it a lot since then but never really made note of it. Now that he knew Mike was with Will and they were, well, in love, he knew what exactly that besotted look was.
It was the same way he’d look at Joyce before he realized how deeply he loved her, after he realized, too. It was the look he received when she realized he loved her and that she loved him back. To see such unashamed and joyous love between Mike and Will almost made Hopper’s reservations about Mike dissipate.
He grabbed Mike’s shoulder and the tall kid turned to him with unamused raised eyebrows. “Watch yourself, Mike.”
Mike nodded twice and motioned for Will to go in before him. The boy turned to face Hopper straight on with a strong and serious look on his face. “I love him, too, you know. He’s important, he’s everything, he’s just it for me, you know?” His brown eyes turned to Will before making contact with Hopper once more. “I know I didn’t make a good impression when I was with El and I’m not here to make a good impression with Will, either. If you don’t like me, that’s fine, but we both love Will and you’re not gonna scare me from doing that.”
Hopper had to say Mike was kinda cool standing up for his love for Will. He had definitely matured since dating El. He almost wished El would have dated this Mike, but he also knew El was far happier not worrying about romantic entanglements. Plus, Mike said Will was it for him. It wouldn’t be fair for El or Mike to be together when Mike fully realized who he loved.
“The only time I’ll scare you is if you hurt him.”
“I’ll beat my own ass if I do, but yeah, you’re welcome to join in.”
Hopper laughed, Mike smiled, and maybe things were perfect all along. At least Hopper could sleep at night with the fact that he lived with the most badass family ever and he loved them with all his old man heart could give.

Positive Things about Stranger Things *Spoilers
- Robyn was THE BOMB and her chemistry w/ Steve and Dustin was amazing
- Shoutout to the Duffers for putting Erica in basically half of the season and developing her inner “nerd” by having Dustin and Lucas bring her D&D
- Now that Max is more comfortable w/ everyone this season, we got to see her personality and 10/10 would have had her as a BFF in middle school
- Will (Schnapp) should and must win an Emmy or Oscar at some point in his life b/c the boy can ACT
- Joyce telling Owens’ secretary that she’ll kick his ass if he doesn’t get off of it was peak-mom and I’m here for it
- Hopper calling El his “daughter” and basically telling Mike to slow his grill around her b/c at the end of the day, Hopper could have put Mike in the ground if he wanted to
- El’s movements/emotions when controlling her powers are incredible and it amazes me that Millie was 14 when this was filmed
- Lucas is the Hawkeye of that group with his slingshot, like damn boy who taught you how to aim so well???
- Dustin is still so so pure and we need to protect that cinnamon roll at ALL COSTS
- STEVE HARRINGTON. WE STAN AN ADOPTIVE PARENT AND AN ALLY
- Nancy Fucking Wheeler was a MF badass beating the shit out of her flayed co-worker who was a garbage human being at the hospital. She was literally smashing the patriarchy and basically doing what every woman who has ever been harassed by a man wants to do to those pieces of shit.
- Jonathan Byers is the most underrated character in my opinion. He is soft and smol and cares deeply about the ones he loves. He was basically beaten to a pulp by his mind-flayed boss and yet Nancy’s safety was still his #1 priority.
- Murray saying “I was gone for a minute to get a hot dog” was so heartbreaking since he really bonded w/ Alexei
- Alexei X Cherry Slurpee should be canon
- Karen Wheeler’s speech to Nancy was so important like every young woman needs to be reminded that they have to keep fighting because assholes are everywhere
- Mike learning that there needs to be a balance of boundaries and trust in a relationship is important and that kind of development needs to be acknowledged
- EDIT: Mike being the ONLY ONE of the kids to help El when she was being STRANGLED by Billy shows that he will protect her at all costs

Without The Lights~ Billy Hargrove x OC Camille Harper
Chapter 6: Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)
A/N: More S2! The Billy&Steve fight //sigh. Our boy really fucks up and Camille does not take that shit. TW: violence, assholes, death, and nods to antisemitism.
“Car is too far away and…oh, shit. A payphone.” Camille raced down toward an old train stop, worn down. She slipped a coin in while the group chatted behind her. “C’mon, c’mon.”
“Hello?” Her mother’s voice sounded on the other end.
“Ah, mom. Sorry, I forgot to say, I got…invited to stay out later. I’m going to a movie.” Camille caught her bloodied nose and mouth in the glass.
“Of course, don’t stay too late.”
  “Where is dad?”
“Work, the lab stole him from us again today. Poor thing. Thought about bringing him dinner, I could sneak it to him on the first floor.”
  “Something wrong there?” Camille urged.
“Oh, no, I’m sure. You know how they keep him busy.” Her mother paused when she scoffed.
“Oh, I know.” Fingers gripped the phone before she found a thought. Harper Sixx. Named after Camille. Her stomach clenched unpleasantly, voice cracking when realization washed over her. Her home life was over. “Mom, I gotta go.”
  “Is something wrong?”
“No, I’ll be home late. I just…” Camille’s voice grew thick. “Goodbye.” She smacked the receiver down and scrambled for more change, pushing it in. “Fuck, fuck fuck.”
  “Hello?”
“Mrs. Hargrove, can I speak to Billy?” There was a scuffle before she caught the sounds of a silent struggle.
“Yea, uh… One moment… Please, stop it,” Susan had begged. Camille heard a smack. Skin on skin. Billy gave a whimper when Neil pushed the phone into his hands.
“It’s your greedy Jew whore. You know what to tell her. Don’t you try to come home without Maxine.” Camille heard as if Neil wanted her too. Billy sniffled into the receiver and cleared his throat. Behind her, Steve tugged but she waved him off.
“Harpy,” he tried to sound level and she didn’t. Shaken and frantic.
“Billy!” She made the solid attempt to breathe like it would lower her tone. “Ah, so, um…look we need to raincheck tonight. I can’t make it. Something came up and I…I have to take care of something. Important stuff. I’ll explain…later. Um, I gotta go-”
“Whoa, wait.” He heard someone urging behind her. “Who is with you?”
  “No one. I’m sorry, I-”
“Max is missing.” He cut in.
“Max is missing…I,” Camille eyed Max’s fearful expression. The little girl shook her head quickly. “I’m sorry I haven’t seen her. She’s probably with Mike and them, you know?” She winced, not wanting to give him reason to be more upset.
“She isn’t supposed to be... Okay, you’re sounding off.” He pressed. “If this about my disappearing that morning, I-”
“No!” She squeaked and Steve pulled at her arm. “It’s not that, I just…I just…” She closed her eyes. “I started my period, whole big mess of cramps! Crime scene. Really bad stuff down there, you’ll want to steer clear. We’ll go another time! Bye, Billy!” She slammed the phone down.
“Ew…” Came the chorus from the children behind her.
“I hate you guys,” she rubbed her head and Steve was snickering. It earned him a punch in the shoulder. “Stuff it. I had to think of something.”
“I think it worked. Come on, you know we’ll never reach the others by phone at this point. We’re scattered… Stupid walkie isn’t even working. We have to keep going. Crime scene.” Steve was still laughing so they continued on down the tracks. Screeching echoed in the distance, causing them to run toward it.
“Why are we headed toward the sounds?!” Max hurried up behind them. Flashlights kept them going until they hit a cliff.
“I don’t see them.” Dustin spoke.
“It’s the lab,” Lucas realized. The building grew pitch black. Something was wrong. “They were going back home.” Camille’s body chilled.
“My father is there.” She was already headed down, through dirt and thrush. The others followed after. Silence filled the space around them until they got closer.
“Who’s there?” A familiar voice echoed.
“Jonathan!” Camille waved her light in the air.
“Camille?” He realized before the others came out. Nancy paced beside him.
  “Steve?”
  “Nancy?”
“What are you doing here?” Nancy rushed forward. Camille didn’t know why, she came and hugged her. Arms lifted, unsure, before Nancy was embracing her friend back.
“It’s just good to see you.” Camille sighed, sniffling. Her friend lifted a hand to her cheek.
“What happened to your face? The blood, it’s exactly like-”
  “Eleven.” Lucas nodded.
  “Really true, huh.”
“Ah, it’s been a night,” Camille huffed. “Monster hunting. Or…chasing.”
“What are you two doing here?” Steve came up behind them with the kids.
“We’re looking for Mike and Will.” Nancy answered and Dustin frowned.
“They’re not in there, are they?”
“We’re not sure.” She stopped when that horrid screeching echoed like wails. Camille came forward, freezing cold.
  “Give me a boost.”
“That is not happening,” Steve was at her right while Jonathan fought with the gate switch.
“Power still isn’t…” he slammed buttons and Nancy gasped, calling out.
“It’s back!” They all stilled to watch the lights come on from the ground up. “We’ll go get them.”
“I’m coming too.” Camille hurried to get into the car.
“Steve, watch them.” Nancy raced after and Jonathan sped them up the hill once the gate opened. Camille felt her heart pound, ripping open the car door to get closer at the same time Hopper came out with Will limp in his arms and Mike next to him.
  “Chief Hopper!”
“Didn’t stay home like I asked.” He let her take Will and hand him off to Jonathan. Nancy rushed to Mike, checking to see him over.
  “Come on,” Jonathan called.
“Bob is still in there!” Jim held a rifle in hand, waiting with Joyce at the door.
“So is my father. His office is first floor, I don’t know which one.” Camille came to Hopper. “Did you see him?”
“No, not since those things came at us. Hey!” He grabbed her arm before she could run off. “You’ll die if you get near one, Camille.”
“Let go! I have to see his face!” She fought, rounding the building to see into the first floor. She banged on glass, calling out for him. Broken and bloody windows. Bodies littered the floors. “Dad!” She raged at the same time a person crashed into the window at the end corner. Light poured out when the blinds fell. Bloodied and bruised, she saw him. Noah called her name and pounded. Camille felt herself slow. Everything she ever wanted to ask. Wanted to know. It all died.
Calm for the first time since this nightmare began, Camille watched his eyes. He touched the glass, badly wounded so she put her hand where his was. Nothing. Blood smeared her fingers from her face and he cried out to get to her. Camille didn’t try to help him break the glass while something pounded at the door. Hopper was racing toward her in time to see her trace those three numbers in blood.
   006.
Noah stepped back, face falling. Horrified at the realization. She pressed her lips and glared, readied to let him die while his daughter looked at him with betrayal in her eyes. Those eyes watched hope die too. Those eyes would be the last he ever saw. This world was bright red now. Behind him, the door crashed open at the same time Hopper grabbed her arm to jerk her away. She fought long enough to watch it happen; world in slow motion. A demogorgon lunged at the man who raised her, tearing flesh from bone. And it was done.
“Get in the car!” Jim pushed her into his Blazer sitting out front before he went to yell at the others. Joyce waited until she saw Bob, relieved when he looked at her. Unconditional love. Monsters lunged at him from all sides and Joyce screamed. Camille watched from the car, terrified. Jim forced Joyce out of there, Mike got her into the car with Nancy and Jonathan to take off. Jim pushed his gun into Camille’s hands and sped after them.
“The others…they’re at the gates.” She croaked, setting the weapon aside with a blank expression.
“Let’s go!” Jim called when Camille got the door open to push the kids into the back seat. She ripped Steve in to join them. They sped away from Hawkins lab and she felt herself lose it. Camille dunked her head out the open window to vomit
“Hey, hey. It’s okay,” Steve rubbed her back from the seat behind her. The car jerked to follow Jonathan’s and she fell back into Hopper in tears. Camille clung to him, arms winding around his bicep to let her grief out. For her real parents. For herself. For those other children like her. For a man that still might have loved her. Jim watched her unhinge and let her cling, one of her hands found his. He thought of Eleven again and squeezed it tighter. Something reassuring in it to let her know she was alive still.
“Give her a moment,” Jim was quieter. “You stay with us, Camille. Just breathe.”
** ** **
It took Steve and Max both to pull her off Jim and get her out of the car. Shaken and far away, Camille let them take her into the Byers’s house.
“In here,” Jonathan offered his room and Nancy helped get her friend to lie down. She curled into a tiny ball.
“Let her rest.” Jim came to the door.
“She’s drained. Just like El.” Dustin added. “She needs to recharge.” Steve touched her face.
“Hey, we got you, Cam.” He offered while Nancy petted her hair down. Camille closed her eyes and let them all fade away. It had to be an hour or so. That awful phone trilling and a crash brought her up. A headache pounded still and she groaned, shaking like a leaf. This was too much. Too fast. Hopper burst in, hand grasping for her wrist.
“They know where we are!” He tugged and Camille jolted back to life. “Stay away from the windows!” Came the next warning before he tried to get her to hide in another room.
“I’m fighting!” Camille pushed at his chest and he puffed. “These things…that lab. Destroyed my life and others. I’m fighting!” She caught Joyce’s eyes and the mother gave Hopper a nod. Camille took her place in the living room with Steve to usher the kids behind her.
“Can you use this?” Jim held a rifle to Jonathan but Nancy stepped forward.
“I can,” she took it. Anyone with weapons got them at the ready when that screeching echoed beyond the windows. Camille lifted her hands to recall these newfound forces inside her. The growling cut when a loud thud crashed. “What are they doing?” Tears threatened Camille’s eyes again so she stepped in front of Joyce and Jonathan. A hand squeezed her shoulder.
“It’s going to be okay,” Joyce, who lost the man she loved and whose son was at risk, instead comforted a brave teenager before her. Camille reached with a trembling hand to lace their fingers. Steve and Nancy stepped forward, gun and bat in hand. Another crash smashed a dead demodog into the windows. The Party cried out, scrambling.
  “Holy shit!”
“Is it dead?” Questions died when the door creaked, locks undoing themselves. A little girl stepped through the opening. Brave beyond her own years. Blood trickled from her nose and Camille realized it as Mike inched forward, speaking.
“Eleven.” She watched Mike and Eleven embrace in tears.
“I never gave up on you.” Mike began. “I called you every night. Every night for-”
“Three hundred and fifty three days. I heard.” She breathed.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were there? That you were okay?”
“Because I wouldn’t let her,” Hopper admitted, coming to El to kiss her head and bring her under one arm. “Where the hell have you been?”
“Where have you been?” She’d shot back.
“You’ve been hiding her.” Mike realized. “You’ve been hiding her this whole time!” He pushed at Jim hard, causing the older man to spin.
“Hey!” Jim grabbed Mike by the front. “Let’s talk. Alone.” He ushered the upset little boy away into another room. Camille watched El greet her lost loved ones. Max tried to interact but was met awkwardly.
“Hey,” Dustin came to tug at Camille’s sleeve. “Eleven, you should meet our new friend.”
“Well, old friend, but new to the party. You guys have something in common.” Lucas added. El observed the pretty teen, head cocking. They both looked a little worse for wear. “This is Camille.”
“She was there too.” Nancy crossed her arms to hold herself. Eleven reached carefully toward the shaken teen before her. Camille let her take her hand and pull the sleeve up to see the scar. Her big eyes lifted in question.
“They burned it off. I am Six.” Saying it so firm felt huge. Camille didn’t even get to explain before this little girl was hugging her. As if she knew everything already. Arms went tight around her ribs so she could press close. Camille felt herself break again, hands lifting so she could give back what this girl had just given her. Comfort. Empathy. A sister. Camille dropped to her knees and they hugged properly.
“It…It is okay.” Eleven felt her new friend grow emotional and petted her hair. “What do you do?” Camille sniffled when little hands cupped her face to wipe tears.
“I see things and I remember…and I mimic. Like a perfect photograph in my head.”
“She’s like a copy cat.” Dustin explained. “And…”
“This too.” Camille lifted her hand and a toy car came up to her palm. El’s eyes went wide before she followed, beckoning the object to her fingers next. It was the first Camille smiled so full and content in a while. She wasn’t alone in the world. Not one bit. Hands lifted so she could wipe El’s nose on her sleeve and stand.
“Can I see him?” Eleven asked after. Joyce took her to Will in the next room. Camille came to the table to see a message. Close gate.
  “What is this?”
“The Mind Flayer…that’s what they’re calling it. It has Will. It's using him to spy like a host.” Nancy explained. “It’s like a huge hive mind. If we destroy it…we think we can destroy all of them. But, we need to save Will too.”
“You’ve opened this gate before, right?” Joyce came in with El to point.
  “Yes.”
“Do you think if we got you back there, that you could close it?” The Party grouped to circle the table.
“It’s not like it was before,” Hopper came out with Mike still upset behind him. “It’s grown. And that’s even if we get in there…that lab is crawling with those-”
“I can do it.” El grew more confident.
“Will is the host, if we close the gate…he’ll die.” Mike added.
“He likes it cold…” Joyce recalled, coming to the group. “Maybe we can burn it out of him.” The plan formed all at once. The Party readied back at the cars and split again. Joyce, Nancy, and Jonathan took one car with Will while Hopper and El neared his Blazer.
“You stay with Steve and the kids.” Jim came to Camille and she gave a solemn nod. “I’ll protect you after this. We all have to look out for each other. Stay out of sight.”
“I let him die.” She whispered to the night air. Jim’s hand was on her shoulder again.
“You know what that lab will do if they get you back, Camille? It wasn’t your fault, what happened.” He was honest. “You wanted to fight so you keep it up. Doing well so far.”
“You protected Eleven. Thank you.” She lifted her gaze and bid goodbyes when the two cars sped away. “You okay?” She caught Steve’s expression.
“I let her go.” He nodded. “She’s happy.”
“I’m proud of you,” Camille tipped her head to his shoulder. “Come on. Let’s go inside.” She ushered Lucas, Mike, Dustin, and Max back in.
“Why didn’t she like me?” Max whispered.
“She’ll warm up.” Camille assured her. “I like you. Steve, what are you…?” Dustin was emptying the fridge while Steve wrapped up the dead demodog.
  “For science,” Dustin shrugged.
“Ugh…gross. Nevermind.” Camille helped them tidy glass from the floor while the two boys stuffed the monster in the fridge. Mike’s pacing was helping no one’s nerves. As they bickered about plans, Camille went down the hall to grab the bat with nails from the floor.
“Maybe we can draw them away from the lab to protect El and Hopper.” Max spoke when she came back to the living room, propping the bat aside.
“And clear a path to the gate.” Mike added, encouraged.
“Yeah, then we all die.” Steve held a rag in hand and tossed out his arms.
“Well, that’s one point of view.”
“Uh, no, that’s a fact,” Steve turned to Dustin. Mike was pacing around toward an X on the tunnels covering the walls.
“This is where the Chief dug a hole…this is our way into the tunnels.”
“That’s how they got around? Tunnels under Hawkins?” Camille shook her head and tapped her chin. “This thing hates fire.” The kids picked up on her thought.
“We set one, the Mind Flayer would call away his army.”
“Leaving it open for El to close the gate.”
“Even she agrees with us, Steve, you’re outnumbered,” Dustin grinned.
“Yeah, this is a big no.” Steve came to the middle of the floor. “I promised to keep you shitheads safe and that’s exactly what I’m going to do. We stay here.” Another sound echoed outside. Light pulled toward the windows. A charging like a car engine. Max recognized it first.
“It’s my brother.” She pressed to the window. Billy's Camaro skidded to a stop just outside. “He’ll kill me… He’ll kill us.” Steve looked to Camille and she nodded, waving the kids to duck.
“Steve. Get rid of him, it’s not safe.” She pressed near the door with him. “Damn it, Billy, what are you doing here?”
“Stay here,” Steve went out alone. Billy looked amused, a fresh cigarette between his lips. Two kings faced off.
“Am I dreaming, or is that you, Harrington?” Billy tossed his jacket over the hood of his car. Cigarette in hand when he laughed, fully unhinging himself now. He licked his lips and Steve was flat.
“It’s me. Don’t cream your pants.” Steve watched him slam the door. They came to each other.
“What are you doing here, amigo? “
“I could ask you the same question... Amigo.” Steve brought himself higher. Tension etched the air. Camille listened through the crack in the door.
“I’m looking for my stepsister. A little bird told me she was here,” Billy blew smoke in Steve’s face.
“Huh. That’s weird. Don’t know her.”
“Small. Redhead. Bit of a bitch.” Billy was revved up about something. Camille glared at the floor and looked to the kids, waving them down again.
“Yeah…that’s not ringing a bell. Sorry, buddy.” Steve went on. Billy didn’t let this down. Something rattled under his skin.
“You know. This whole situation, I don’t know, Harrington, I don't know…it’s giving me the heebie-jeebies.” Billy gestured, eyes sly and steady. Tongue slipped out over teeth.
“Yeah? How’s that?” Steve was undaunted.
“My thirteen-year-old sister is missing all day. Then, I find her with you…at a stranger’s house…and…you lie to me about it.” Billy almost sounded amused, that low baritone rumbled.
“Dude. Were you dropped too much as a child or what? I don’t know what you don’t understand about what I said: She’s not here.” Steve’s shoulders rose. Billy sniffed, scratching his nose before he gestured to the window with his smoke.
“Yeah, okay, then who is that?”
“Get down.” Camille hissed when the four kids dropped. But, it was too late. He’d seen them.
“Listen, man…” Steve began. “I can explain-” He hitched a breath but Billy shoved him to the ground hard. He leaned over, hand resting on his belt buckle to tower over Steve.
“Thought I told you to plant your feet.”
“Billy!” Camille caved, smacking the door open. He lifted his eyes to see her. Betrayed at first. Acceptance followed. That manic sort of grim acceptance she knew too well. Camille stepped out a ways and paused. He smiled with teeth and flicked his burning cigarette on Steve. Jerking, Steve swept it off, scooting backwards. “Stop it.”
“Well, if it isn’t the girl who cried uterus!” He clapped his hands. She looked a mess. “Here with mighty King Steve. King and Queen together. Only fitting. You look rough. Poor queen bee with all the drones at her feet. Fucking idiots who thought she’d given them the time of day. Praised be her royal highness, rich girl. He do that to you? We finally getting a glimpse of the real King of Hawkins? And I thought he'd gone soft.”
  "Enough, it isn't-"
"Enough? I'm just starting, Harpy. What, did you meet up with a friend to...try something? Hm? Poor dying drones eating themselves to taste your sweet, sweet honey. It's all you have to give people, they're nothing to you." Billy didn’t drop his gaze from her own and charged his foot into Steve’s stomach to knock the air from him. Like he was rubbing it in. The baritone seethed now. “They all fall down.”
“Billy!” Camille didn’t think, she just rushed forward to push him off. Billy gripped her wrist and fell into the hood of his car. All dressed up for their date. “You don’t know what’s going on!"
"Oh, I don't?" His grip grew painful, face inches from her own. "Spin me another sob story, Camille. I dare you. Spoiled rotten. Greedy little rich bitch. Lies, lies, all the fucking lies. You're just like me, bee. A user. Making the rounds."
"Greedy?" Camille's cheeks heated. She jabbed back. "You get that from your daddy?" Billy jerked her closer, hissing. "I'm not the only mockingbird." Steve was trying to drag himself in an effort to help his friend.
"Shut the fuck up." He shook her so Camille pushed him into his car. A dangerous smile crept over his lips; her friend vanished. The jackal and the fox. "There's my rough and tumble, girl."
"Get the fuck out of here. This isn’t what it looks like, Billy, just go home. It isn’t safe. Get your shit together, I'll explain later. But, you need to go right now. You need to fucking leave.”
“Not what it looks like?" Hands clamped around her wrists again. "We’ll see about that. Shall we?” He dragged her toward the house while Steve struggled to get his breath. Camille beat at his arm to let go. The door slammed open, his grip like iron. “Explain this! Oh, Lucas Sinclair. What a surprise.” Max was petrified. Billy shoved Camille aside when she pushed at him again. She tripped and toppled to the floor, eyes lifting. For a moment, he saw his mother there. Cowering. Mike and Dustin rushed to help her while he zeroed in on Max with Lucas at her side.
“Billy, stop it!” She watched him reel further. Red.
“I thought I told you to stay away from him.” He was vibrating with rage. Neil consumed him all at once.
“Billy, go away,” Max stepped to him, terrified. Camille stumbled to her feet.
"You're letting him win." She offered, softer. Billy seized up at that, fists clenched. He pressed forward into red waters.
“You disobeyed me. And you know what happens when you disobey me.” Billy threatened. Camille finally saw him for what he was. Awful. “I break things.” Billy grabbed for Lucas to shove him back into a bookcase. Items scattered. Lucas kicked and struggled before Camille wedged to get between them, the kids behind her began to yell. Overlapping in the chaos.
“Get off!” Lucas raged, Billy held him steady.
  “Stay away from her!”
“Billy, he’s just a kid!” Camille was beating on him and tugging. “Let him go! He’s a child!”
“Get off me!” Lucas brought his knee up into Billy’s crotch, stunning him. Camille pushed and Billy was thrown back by force. Hands outstretched and he hit the door. Blue eyes widened at her. The freak.
“Get the fuck away from him!” She planted herself in front of Lucas. Billy thought of his mother again. Leaving even when he tried so hard to stand between her and Neil. Why wasn’t he enough? And Neil had finally beaten him down to size tonight.
“Queen has more tricks... Oh, Sinclair, you’re dead!” Billy was on his feet. “You are so dead!”
“No, you are,” Steve found his fight and whirled Billy around to land a fist into his jaw. Billy dropped like a sack of bricks into the table. He smiled with bloodied teeth, impressed and gone. Camille shoved Lucas toward his friends to protect them. Billy stumbled like a drunk on his feet.
“I see you got some fire in you after all, huh?!” He reeled with high laughter. Blood bubbled on his tongue. “I’ve been waiting to meet this ‘King Steve’ everyone’s been telling me so much about!”
“Get. Out.” Steve poked Billy in the chest. Undaunted, Billy paused. His eyes landed on Camille again. Looking at him like he was a monster. Fine. He swung to hit Steve, missing. Steve rushed at him, landing solid punches until they backed into the counter.
“Get him! Kill him!” The children egged Steve to fight. Billy laughed and laughed between hits, grasping a plate to crash into Steve’s head. “Shit! Billy! Steve!”
“Kick his ass!” Lucas called as Camille kept pushing the kids back and away. Billy stalked like a predator when Steve couldn’t recover quick enough, ripping him up to get in his face.
“No one tells me what to do.” He smashed their heads together and threw Steve to the floor. “Whoo!” The high consumed him.
“Billy, stop!” Max was screaming. Steve fell against the ground after trying to get up, both boys bloodied. Billy came to straddle him, unleashing years and years of repressed rage upon the King of Hawkins High. Camille lunged again, arms around Billy’s neck to stop him. Adrenaline charged. She beat on him. Pulled his hair. Teeth came down into his shoulder and he wailed, grabbing her dark locks to tear her off and shove her aside. She was gone too. Red. Red. Red. Abilities forgotten, she unleashed in turn. Fists pummeling and grabbing at him while he laid into Steve.
"Billy!" She screamed and screamed again, tearing him to the floor with force when the pressure built. Became too much. Blood spilled from her nose against his exposed chest. Billy screamed with her like it was all they could do now. He grabbed her arms, slamming her down into the hardwood. They both cut off, eyes wide to watch each other. Burning. Fingers dug into her shoulders. Something wet hit her face when his whole body quivered. A tear squeezed from his eyes. Billy bared his teeth and she just watched his eyes, readied to be consumed. In the heat of the moment, he didn't try to strike further. Instead, he dragged to go for Steve again. Camille threw herself on his back, tugging once more. Utter mayhem sent items all over the house.
“Look out!” Max, unable to take anymore, charged forth with a needle Joyce left behind. It stabbed into Billy’s neck at the same time Camille fell away. Breathing heavily, they all stilled. Billy stumbled to his feet while Camille pulled Steve’s bloodied form into her lap to check him out. His poor face was swollen all over. Billy hissed, blood all down his mouth and chin before he pulled the needle out.
“The hell is this…?” He dropped it aside, stepping toward Max when the world blurred. Camille propped Steve up and leapt to stand in front of Max. “You little shit…what did you…you…?”
“Stay away from her!” She crossed one arm over Max, backing her up. He watched her eyes, fear and anger. Hatred too. “You are just like him.” Truly disappointed, a fox tore the jackal apart instead and he let her. Realization twisted a knife into his gut. “Proud of it? I bet you that he would be.”
“Camille.” He puffed, hand lifting to grasp her arm blindly. Tried to stay steady. Wobbling, Billy fell backwards and slipped from her, legs splayed, against the floor. Another chuckle erupted as he shifted and tried to get up with no result. Max growled and yanked up the bat while Camille went to Steve again.
“From here on out, you’re going to leave me and my friends alone. Camille too! Neil is an asshole, but you didn’t have to be! Stay away from us! We owe you shit! I’m done! You hear me! Done! Do you understand?” She would not change him.
“Screw…you.” Billy licked his teeth, lost. Alone. Finally, his father. Max crashed the bat between his legs and his head lifted, eyes finally showing fear.
“Say you understand! Say it!” She screamed.
  “Oh…kay…”
  “I couldn’t hear you.”
  “I under…stand.”
  “What?”
“I understand…” Billy’s head lulled when he lost consciousness. He saw Camille’s eyes and was gone. Max tossed the bat aside, leaving the boys awed behind her.
“Steve, come on, stick with us.” Camille shook him while he shifted to whine.
“Let’s get out of here,” Max dug for Billy’s skull keychain, holding the key up.
“We can’t leave these two, help me out.” Camille got Steve into the car. He was barely conscious too, trying to flood back.
“Tell me why we’re taking the brick shithouse also?” Dustin groaned as they dragged Billy outside. Camille grabbed Billy’s brown bomber coat and put it on to block out the cold.
“He’ll be out for hours.” Camille shoved him into the car, buckling him before she climbed in back to help Steve. “I’ll drive.” She was ignored when Dustin got into back, squeezing on Steve’s other side. “Hey, what are you guys…? Oh, no. This is not happening.” Max took the wheel with Lucas and Mike next to her. “Wait!”
“I got this!” Max hit the gas hard. Camille was half on Billy while he limply rocked in his seat. Steve fell toward her so she cleaned his face. Max took hard turns with Lucas shouting directions. Gas sloshed in a tank Mike was holding. Steve roused with a whine and began to panic. Dustin went to calm him until the older teen was clinging to them both.
  “Stop the car!”
“Everyone shut up!” Max roared, hammering the gas so they jerked into a field. Steve was screaming until they yanked to a stop, skidding along the dirt.
“We’re fine.” Max shrugged, shaking herself. “Told you guys. Zoomer.” They charged out, leaving Billy to sag in the backseat.
“You fucking asshole,” Camille whispered in his ear, following them to get items out of the truck. Goggles and bandanas. Gloves. Flashlights. Gas. Steve was still freaking out.
“This ends now!” He threw his hands up but, Camille was shoving gear into his arms.
“A party member requires our assistance,” Dustin was calm. “It’s our duty to provide it.” They came to the crater. Dustin put the bat in Steve’s hand. “Keep us safe.” Steve watched them and shook his head.
“I’ll go first.” He put on the gear and carefully dropped with Camille next. They helped the younger kids inside down a rope.
“The hell?” Camille looked around. Damp. Floating matter. It was practically another world. Haunted.
“Any of you little shits die down here, I’m getting blamed.” Steve took the lead, half amused. It set them somewhat as ease. Spores opened along the walls with fog. Camille edged to Steve’s right. “Come on,” they picked up the pace, “little hustle!”
“Here!” Mike bellowed as they dropped gas cans about, pouring it all over. Vines almost came alive.
“Get behind us,” Camille breathed easy and nodded to Steve.
“Alright, you guys ready?” He was met with agreement and flicked a lighter open.
  “Light her up,” Dustin replied.
“I am in such deep shit.” Steve huffed.
“Get in line.” Camille stood taller. Steve tossed the flame forth, fire erupted before them. Vines whipped around with cries of agony.
“Go! Let’s go!” They backtracked toward the exit. “Run!” Harrowing screams bellowed all over. Mike was thrown down when a vine grabbed his ankle. Camille stomped it, yanking him to his feet. The group charged and skidded to a stop when a single demogod leered.
“Dart,” Dustin opened his arms. The creature stilled. “Trust me.” He went on when the group grabbed for him to stop. “Hey, Dart. Hey…it’s me, your friend, Dustin? Will you let us pass? You hungry?” Dustin dug out a candy bar from his pack. It was working. Dart didn’t try to attack them. “Good boy.” He set it down and they watched the creature instead go for it to eat. Sneaking around it, Dustin lingered after the group. “Bye, buddy.”
“Let’s go! Let’s go!” Steve led the party back to the entrance. Roars echoed behind them.
“The gate,” Camille gasped. “Go! Now!” They hoisted Max up the rope first. Steve and Camille got Lucas and Mike up next. The wails drew closer. Tunnels shaking when a stampede approached.
  “Shit!” Dustin called.
“Go!” Steve pushed at Camille. Silhouettes raced in the distance. Closing in too fast.
“No! Not without you!” She lifted her arms on the defensive and Dustin got behind them. It was too late. Her eyes watered and she took Steve’s hand. “We’re good kids.” He sighed, bat at the ready.
“Yeah, we are.” They braced for the end when demodogs scurried and instead went around them. Frozen, Steve pulled Camille and Dustin close to him as each creature sprinted beyond the tunnel.
“Eleven.” Mike gasped above. Dustin was heaved to the surface and Steve pushed Camille up before she reached for him. The world spun, something changed. Headlights off Billy’s Camaro burned brighter, blinding them.
“She’s doing it,” Camille shielded her eyes. They blared and then dimmed. “What happened?”
“We won.” Mike came forward, eyes lifting to the sky. Relieved, the teens came in for a tight embrace. Camille looked to the stars and closed her eyes, air cleansed her skin. They burrowed together. She was home.

(Mike Wheeler x Reader): Dangerous
Request: hey just wondering if you could do an imagine where there’s a new girl in hawkins and the gang find out she has elemental powers but she also has borderline personality disorder so can’t regulate her emotions too well n stuff ?? maybe end with some mike x reader fluff ? thankyou and all good if you’re too busy xxx A/N: I do not have bpd and this is just one interpretation of how a character with bpd might behave. I by no means want to stereotype or misrepresent any mental illness so please take this with a grain of salt. I’ve done a lot of reading and research in an attempt to better understand and write this character but if it’s not accurate or offensive please let me know and I will take it down.
Tumblr media
Dad said that Hawkins would be a better place for you to grow up. That a small town meant you would be safer, and that somehow that would make you happier.
What a load of bullshit.
He moved you here because of the Incident. He moved you here because he’s embarrassed and ashamed to have you as a daughter.
You can see it in the way he looks at you like you’re a nuclear bomb that could go off at any moment and destroy his whole life. You’d already done it once.
When you walked into Hawkins Middle School you already knew that this new school, that this whole town was going to be a nightmare. You tried to breathe slowly and not think too much about how everyone was staring at you as you walked through the hallways.
Once you found your locker and started loading your stuff into it you started to hear whispers behind your back. You knew people were talking about you. You were the new girl so you were an easy target for teasing, and you weren’t the first new girl this year, so the kids had plenty of practice.
You were standing up in front of your English class, having been forced by your teacher to introduce yourself when you heard it. Someone hissing schizo from the back of the classroom. Your eyes flickered towards the face that said it, and before you knew it the teacher was reprimanding your classmates while you turned beet red, standing
“I heard she had to leave her old school because she had a breakdown,” you heard a girl behind you in the hallway whisper to her friend.
“My mom said that she threatened to kill herself in front of her classmates and that she’s a danger to us,” You heard a voice hiss as a group of kids pushed past you, shooting glances your way.
“Should we go talk to her?” You heard another voice, across the hallway say to their friends as you stood at you locker packing up your things for the day.
“Can you stop talking about me behind my back?” You snapped as you turned around to confront the group of kids in your class.
“S-sorry, we were just-just gonna ask if you maybe wanted to go to the arcade with us this weekend?” A nervous-looking boy with a mop of curly hair asked you.
“Is this some kind of joke?” You ask suspiciously.
The boy glanced around at the rest of the group before turning back to you, “No?”
“No. They’re just being weird.” A redheaded girl says as she moves forward and puts her hand out, “I’m Max.”
“And these idiots are Lucas, Will, Dustin, Mike, and Jane.” She says as she points down the line of kids standing in front of you.
Will perks up at the end, “Oh, but we all call Jane El, it’s a long story.”
“Um…” You mutter awkwardly as you glance around at all of them.
The tall one, Mike clears his throat awkwardly, “So this weekend, are you free?”
You glance at him before realizing they’re being genuine, “I guess,” You tell them with a shrug.
“Cool,” He said with a grin before you turned back to your locker and the girls had to drag the boys away before they started to get creepy and weird.
When you got home from school you made your way into the kitchen to make yourself a snack when your dad peaked his head out of his office.
“How was the first day, kiddo?” He asked as he grabbed a slice of your apple and bit down on it before you could object.
“It was okay,” You tell him with a shrug as you focus on scooping some peanut butter out of the container and onto your plate, “I uh… I’m going to the arcade with some friends tomorrow,” You tell him.
“Really? That’s-that’s great sweetie,” You dad replies with a slightly stunned smile before you can see his overprotective dad brain kick in again, “Are you sure about this?”
You give him an annoyed look before going back to your snack.
“I just mean, do you think it’s a good idea?” Your dad clarified as he looked down at you in that overly concerned way that you hated so much.
“I want to be normal dad, why can’t you just let me be happy?” You ask him with a hmph before stalking up to your room in indignation.
The next evening you left the house with little more than a nod at your father as he reminded you to be back before curfew.
When you got the arcade it was already packed with kids your age but you quickly found ‘the party’ and were pushed in to have a turn. Everyone watched and cheered amicably for you the first couple of levels before some nearby games opened up at most of the group moved to the new game.
You were so in the zone that you didn’t notice everyone had stepped away until Mike suddenly appeared right next to you and stared at the screen in awe.
“No way! How’d you get to level 56? I thought it was impossible!” He exclaimed.
“Guess I’m just a genius,” You replied smugly as you deftly moved the controls around.
“Guys! Come look at this, (Y/N)’s amazing!” Mike called over to Max and Lucas as you continued to play.
Everything was going great until some of the more aggressive boys in your class sauntered in.
“Oh look, the geek squad found another freak to join their ranks. Careful guys, she might kill you if you piss her off,” One of them jeered.
“Shut up,” You muttered lowly as you balled your fists up tightly.
“Oh, are you going to do something about it? Are you going to hurt me?” He continued to taunt.
You tried to remain calm, you really did. You started to do the breathing exercises you’d been taught but the voice laughing at you just kept cutting through. You tried to hold it back, it’s had barely been a week here in Hawkins, yet here you were.
The power washed over you like a tsunami. It felt like you were drowning, but like those boys were too. It felt like justice. It wasn’t until you heard a scream that you realized what you’d done and that you were able to focus forward and realized your burst of energy had blown the water pipes in the building. All the games were sparking and everyone was drenched in water as people scattered out the exits.
The boys who had been taunting you scrambled to their feet before fleeing the building. You turned to look and saw the group of kids who’d taken you in staring back at you with stunned expressions. They could have become real friends, but you’d fucked it all up.
Before anyone could say anything you bolted out of the building and into the cool spring air.
You found refuge in an unlit corner of the now abandoned parking lot.
You were so lost in thought that you didn’t even realize that they’d found you until they were right in front of your face.
“There you are, (Y/N), we were so worried, are you okay?” Max asks as she reaches to squeeze your shoulder in comfort.
“You guys aren’t scared of me?” You ask as you look up at the group, “You should leave me alone, I’m dangerous.”
“Honestly, after all the crazy shit we’ve seen in the past year, this is not that surprising,” Dustin quips before Lucas hits him in the gut.
Will rolls his eyes, “What he means to say, is that we have some idea of what you’re going through. Especially El.”
You turn to El, confused as to how this seemingly perfect girl could have any idea what you’re going through.
“I have powers too,” She tells you shyly before she closes her eyes and sticks her hand out. Within moments the rocks and pebbles around you guys slowly begin to levitate in the air. They then drop back to the ground as she opens her eyes, “See, you’re not the only freak.”
Lucas nods, “(Y/N), we’re not going to let anything happen to you. You’re one of us now, you’re part of the party. If anything, your powers just cement that.”
“Uh, wow,” You stutter out, “Thanks guys, I don’t really know what to say.”
“You don’t have to say anything,” El says with a shrug, “But we should all probably get home before our parents get too worried. Mike can bike you home, right Mike?”
“Of course,” He says with a nod as the rest of the group heads towards their bikes and starts heading home.
“I’m sorry about… all of this,” You tell Mike awkwardly as you trail behind, “You can just head home, I’ll be fine.”
Mike shoots you a look of indignation, “(Y/N), I want to take you home. I want to know you’re okay,” He tells you, “I just want you to know that you can trust us. That you can trust me.”
“You’re really great Mike, El’s really lucky.”
“(Y/N)-” Mike says before he realizes why you’re saying that, “El and I aren’t dating. We kissed. A few times. But that was well over a year ago, we’re just best friends.”
“Oh,” You mutter.
“And I’d really like to kiss you now if that’s alright,” Mike adds somewhat timidly.
“That’s more than alright,” You muttered at your toes before looking up at Mike and realizing how hard you’ve already fallen for this boy before you realize that he’s leaning closer and your lips press against his.
Maybe Hawkins won’t be so bad after all.

Chapter Five: Dig Dug
Mike is a good friend but you don’t know that he can’t spy back.
Why are you still down here Hop what are you gonna do if something attempts to eat your face? Tickle it with bullets? And regular walkies don’t work in the Upside Down it’s an alternate dimension if you were paying attention instead of creepily staring at El maybe you would’ve stayed your stupid ass out of this hole. Hop you only have 6 shots this is one of the dumbest decisions I’ve seen him make. That looks like an inflamed butt hole. Doesn’t look like the Butt hole likes having a bright ass flashlight shined at it.
Nancy and Jonathan are cringy I can’t with them. How is askin if he can turn off the light deja vu? Nancy considering the fact that neither of you know about the shadow monster and the danger both of your brothers are in why would you say the world is about to end? Jonathan’s baby brother and yours were traumatized and you were more concerned with dating and even more than that if you really wanted to date Jonathan why did you drag Steve bac into this? That wasn’t fair to either guy.
Ewww what was that blac lookin stuff?? Yeah stupid this is what happens when you don’t have backup you end up trapped in the Upside Down with nobody knowing that anything is wrong.
Erica’s food is swimming in syrup somebody take away the buttersworth please. That was real believable Lucas.
This poor lady loves this cat. Justice for Mews!
Dart just got the shit knocked out of him.
He’s a nice guy not creepy at all the kind of trucker you want to find if you’re in trouble. Becky your niece is home.
Why doesn’t Jonathan remind Nancy of the potential downside? Steve told her as soon as she suggested telling Barbs parents. Jonathan is just following along not giving a damn about his mom or little brother.
They’re 13 year old children what do you think they’re gonna do? Lucas likes Max enough to break Rule of Law knowing that he could be banished from The Party that’s crazy considering he’s known her for less than a week.
Bob is so goofy you brought a sick kid brain teasers?Bob the Brain to the rescue.
Where did the bones come from? What else fell in here? Or got drug below
The Party knows better than to leave without their walkies poor Dustin gotta battle alone because Lucas is breaking code of law and Mike and Will never thought to turn it on because of whatever reason while Dustin and Lucas are still supposed to be looking for Dart.
Erica gets on my damn nerves stay out that boys room ain’t a damn thing in there for you this is why I can’t have a little sister the irritation it’s like a rash but this never would’ve happened if Lucas would’ve brought his walkie.
El is really good at avoiding questions she doesn’t want to answer. Becky faulty wiring doesn’t lead you like that. I wonder if Terry could always do that or if the experiment unlocked a part of her brain.
I wonder if Bob uses a pocket protector. You can’t rush cartography Joyce Bob doesn’t know it’s urgent plus for accuracy sake you should be a little more patient. Let’s go Bob you gotta move fast with this crew.
She’s been on the phone for over two hours?! Their phone bill is sky high. Ted feels useless like damn Ted Mr Clarke is more useful. Nancy isn’t even kind of at Ally’s y’all don’t verify this info? Why Steve? She should be apologizing not you she played with your heart not the other way around.
That was a well executed multi pronged sneak attack and what d’you mean wait that’s not how this works.
Pause Max ask yourself what part of this story made Lucas personally sound impressive? It shouldn’t take slapping your hand over someone’s mouth to get them to believe you. Prove it how Max? The Demogorgon is dead The Party thinks El is too and bringing you to the lab means that he could legitimately come up missing so how exactly is he supposed to prove it? Either you believe or you don’t.
They told him about everything except the fact that they all everybody who was involved signed confidentiality agreements basically saying that they agreed that the lab as well as the DOE had nothing to do with what happened last year that man knows who he said that to. When did he say my name is dr so and so and I work for the DOE there are thousands of ways around this. Except he didn’t admit culpability he literally says the men responsible are gone I inherited the mistake. All of what Nancy? Did all of what? You didn’t care at all until it was Barb that was missing and that was guilt this is guilt and you’d end up in jail playin with these people for real. Still doesn’t work on paper Barb is missing she ran away and no one will ever find her body to even say she died.
Becky you could’ve just folded that in half. Lol stop talking I appreciate the bluntness. Terry’s story is sad as hell she just wanted her daughter back.
Joyce and Bob the Brain to the rescue!!
I can’t tell if it that was a seizure or or crippling pain or both.

Sixteen Candles: Part Five - The End
Summary: It’s the day that Vivian has been looking forward to nearly her entire life: her sixteenth birthday. But between her sister’s wedding overshadowing her big day, and praying that her crush Billy Hargrove will finally notice her things aren’t going too well for her. If she can just survive the under the sea dance at her school and avoid the really weird and creepy Tommy H her night might be salvageable. Maybe.
Pairing: Billy Hargrove/OFC
A/N: Here it is! The final chapter! I’m gonna miss Vivian. And Carol was honestly a lot of fun to write. Maybe one day if you guys want I can write more for Billy and Vivian. Enjoy the ending!
It was the day that Vivian and her family had been dreading. Sarah’s wedding day. One would imagine that a girl’s wedding day was one of the happiest days of her life. You would never have guessed that with Sarah. The entire household had been woken up around five in the morning by the sound of a near blood curdling scream coming from the bathroom that Carol and Vivian shared. Vivian sat up on the couch abruptly, blinking wildly and looking around to make sense of what was happening. Slowly lights around the house started to flick on as her family got out of bed.
“Are you fucking kidding me?!” Sarah screeched upstairs.
Vivian hurried upstairs, where her parents, grandparents and Carol were all crowded outside of the bathroom door with concerned looks (technically Carol looked more annoyed than concerned).
“Sarah, language. Is everything alright? Please let me in. You’re scaring us,” their mother said calmly. There was a long silence before the lock clicked and Sarah poked her head out of the door. There were mascara streaks under her eyes from her tears. “Sweetheart, what’s wrong?”
“I got my fucking period!” she wailed. Carol broke out into a loud cackle as their father shuffled awkwardly in the hallway.
“I’m gonna...I think I’m gonna go start breakfast…” he mumbled. Vivian’s grandparents quickly followed after them. Sarah opened the door wider and burst into a loud fit of sobs. Vivian let out a loud and annoyed sigh. And here she thought Sarah was freaking out about something important.
“Sounds like the honeymoon is gonna be a blast, huh Sarah?” Carol teased.
Their mother let out a small huff and turned to glare at Carol. “Carol, please. You’re not helping. Sarah, I know that this is...inconvenient, but it’s not the end of the world. This is just a tiny speed bump, okay? We’ll handle everything and it’s all going to be perfect.”
“Yeah, until it comes to the wedding night,” Carol snorted. “God, imagine you’re walking down the aisle and you’ve got a huge stain on your ass and you have no idea?” she laughed. Vivian bit down on her bottom lip and let out a cough to cover her laughter. If it had been anyone else she probably wouldn’t have found it so funny. But this was a little like karma kicking Sarah in the ass for being such a pain.
“Carol, Vivian, go downstairs now or you’ll stay home and miss your sister’s wedding.” their mother warned, pointing a finger at the stairs.
“...Is that supposed to be a threat?” Vivian asked genuinely. Carol laughed loudly beside her. Their mother glared at them, and the two sister’s retreated downstairs and to the kitchen where their dad was getting a head start on cooking pancakes.
He cast a nervous glance at them over the top of his glasses. “...Has the screaming stopped?”
“Momentarily.” Vivian sighed. She couldn’t wait for Sarah to go back to Florida. The sun wasn’t even up yet. And things wouldn’t get any better. Between the stress and the cramps, Vivian was sure that Sarah was going to make this the wedding day from hell.
Eventually her mom came downstairs. She leaned against the doorway and let out a heavy sigh. “Okay. She’s going to take some muscle relaxers, I’m going to make her some tea, and we’re all going to try and make it through today in one piece,” she was saying it more to herself than to the family. Vivian and her mother made eye contact, and her face softened. “Oh, Vivian…” she walked over to her youngest daughter and wrapped her up in a tight hug. “Your birthday. I’m so sorry we forgot your birthday.”
“Mom, it’s fine...really…” she said, wincing at how hard her mother was squeezing her.
“It’s not fine. It was your sixteenth birthday. We’re gonna make it up to you, okay? Whatever you want.”
Her dad let out a snort. “Good luck. She’s already trying to work me for a car.”
Carol was watching the exchange with a wicked grin. “God, how embarrassing. Your entire family forgetting your birthday. Imagine being that forgettable.”
Their mother fixed a stern look at Carol. “Young lady, if you let out one more nasty comment today so help me…” Carol only rolled her eyes. Their mother turned back to Vivian, taking her face in her hands and smiling sweetly down at her. “How about some chocolate chip pancakes, hmm? That’s a start, right?”
Vivian smiled and nodded. She felt so awkward now. She had wanted her family to feel guilty for forgetting her birthday. Now that they did she felt weird about it. Like it was too much attention. Hopefully it would wear off. She could definitely get used to all the sucking up. “Definitely.”
---
If Billy didn’t have work it was rare that he’d wake up before noon on a weekend. Neil hated it. Billy didn’t really care. Susan usually saved him a plate of whatever she cooked up for breakfast in the oven. She was always trying to be his friend. Always trying to be the good guy. He hated it.
He was still laying in bed, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. He could hear Max and her friends out in the living room. Which meant Neil and Susan had to be out for the day. Billy rolled out of bed and shuffled down the hall. They were all there. All six of them. Great. “Don’t you nerds have anything better to do than hang around here?” he asked.
“I could ask you the same thing,” Max said. “Aren’t you supposed to be cool or something? Why are you stuck at home on a saturday?”
Dustin grinned. “I bet it’s ‘cause his girlfriend dumped him.”
“She didn’t dum- where did you even hear that shit anyways?” Billy snapped.
Dustin only shrugged. “Steve told me.”
“Is she who you were calling all night?” Max asked perking up. Each of the kids snapped towards Billy’s direction. They were annoying, sure, but he hadn’t taken them for gossips. “Because if you were, you’re an idiot. I hate Cheryl.” she scrunched up her nose as if her name gave her a bad taste in her mouth.
“No. I was...do you ever mind your own business?” he asked with a huff. The six kids only stared up at him, waiting for him to spill the beans. Billy rolled his eyes. “I was calling Vivian. She’s Carol’s sister.”
“She’s getting married!” Lucas said, as if he had realized something no one else had.
Billy sneered down at him. “Married? The hell do you mean she’s getting married? She’s sixteen.”
Lucas and Mike shared a look. “...I’m pretty sure you can get married if your parents say it’s okay. Like with a permission slip or something.” Mike suggested.
“...I don’t think that’s how it works, Mike.” Will said with a sympathetic smile.
Max rolled her eyes. “It’s not Vivian that’s getting married. It’s her sister, idiots. That totally can’t be legal.”
Billy looked at each of them, blinking wildly. He set his hands on his hips. “Can some explain what the hell is going on? How the hell do you know so much about Vivian?”
“We gave her and Robin a ride home from the movies last night,” Dustin explained. “She said that her sister Sarah’s getting married today and her family forgot her birthday. Pretty shitty if you ask me.”
“...Is there a point to anything you’re telling me?” Billy asked.
Mike shot him an irritated look. “We’re trying to tell you that if you’ve been calling Vivian, and she hasn’t been answering, you can probably just find out wherever it is her sister’s getting married and see her person.”
Billy didn’t think there were enough words in the english language to explain how annoyed he was that a group of 13 year olds had figured out how to get him to Vivian when he couldn’t do it himself.
“You can’t wear that though.” Dustin said, nodding to the shorts and shirt Billy had worn to bed.
“...Yeah. Thanks for the tip.” Billy said dryly.
“Even if he changes, who says she’ll even want to go out with him? Vivian’s too good for you.” Lucas said.
Billy scowled down at him. “Too good for me? You were with her for like, what? Half an hour last night? How would you even know?”
“It was long enough to know she’s too good for you.” Lucas affirmed. The others nodded along with him in agreement. Billy only spun around on his heels, stomping back to his bedroom to change. He hated when Max’s friends were over. They were either finding little clever ways to insult him or begging him for rides around town.
He quickly changed, or as quickly as Billy could change, and headed back out to the living room. He snatched up his keys. “This good enough for you little weirdos?” he asked, spreading his arms out. The kids were surveying his outfit carefully.
“...You got anything in blue, maybe?” Dustin asked.
Billy rolled his eyes. “It was a rhetorical question, Henderson. I’ll be back later, Max. Try not to set anything on fire.” and with that he was out of the house and sauntering out to his car. It wouldn’t be all that hard to find Vivian, would it? Maybe if he was fast he could catch them at their house before they left for the wedding. If not, Hawkins was a small town. She couldn’t have gone that far.
He felt a little pathetic. Following a girl around like this. He supposed it might look romantic or something to Vivian though, wouldn’t it? Maybe she’d be impressed. Billy sure hoped so. There wasn’t really any way this weekend could get any shittier.
---
Vivian was honestly surprised Sarah wasn’t dead. A few hours after the family had all finished breakfast, Vivian’s mother had gone upstairs to check on Sarah. It turned out that Sarah had nearly tripled the normal dose of muscle relaxers she was supposed to take and could barely stand up on her own. “Sarah, what were you thinking?! On today of all days!” their mother scolded her, trying to help sit her upright in her bed.
“I was thinking that my uterus was trying to claw its way out of my vagina, mom.” she spat. Vivian and Carol were crowded in Sarah’s doorway, watching on in amusement. Sarah’s eyes were all glossy and they couldn’t seem to focus on any one thing. Her voice was slurred to the point where Vivian couldn’t believe she could understand anything her sister was saying. And she wouldn’t stop swaying back and forth. Carol of course thought it was hilarious.
“Jeez, Sarah. I always had my suspicions that you didn’t actually like Kevin but this is a new low even for you. Drugging yourself to get through your wedding?” she taunted.
“Yeah? Yeah? Well...shut up, Carol. At least I’m getting married,” she pointed an unsteady finger in her sister’s direction. “Like that stupid...dumb Tommy boy is gonna wanna marry you after he finds out that’s not your real nose!”
Carol let out a gasp, instinctively covering her nose. Vivian burst into a fit of laughter beside her. “I had a deviated septum, you cow!” Carol cried.
“Enough! Both of you! Carol, I’ve had enough of you. You’re staying home! I can’t have you harassing your sister while she’s like this. Not if you don’t want me strangling either of you in the middle of the church! And Vivian, please stop laughing.”
Vivian pressed her lips together tightly and cleared her throat. “Sorry, mom…”
Carol flipped her hair over her shoulder and sneered at Sarah. “Fine by me. Like I’d want to go to that tacky ass wedding anyways.”
“Uh...can I stay home too? I mean, you guys did forget my birthday after all…” Vivian asked, looking between her mom and Carol.
“You’re going to the wedding, Vivian. Now will you please go and get dressed while I try and get your sister out of bed?” she gave Sarah’s arm a firm tug and she was up and out of bed on wobbly feet. “Can one of you help me?”
“Why should I? I’m not in the wedding anymore.” Carol snapped, turning dramatically and stomping down the hall. Vivian let out a soft sigh and went to Sarah’s other side, throwing her arm around her and helping their mom guide Sarah out of her room.
Sarah looked over at Vivian with squinted eyes. “You know,” she began with a loud huff. “You’ve always been my favorite sister,” she confessed. Vivian couldn’t really help but smile. That was probably one of the nicest things Sarah had ever said to her. “I mean, even though you dress like total shit. But that’s like...a phase, right? Because I remember like, I used to wear bell bottoms all the time, you know? But then I realized they were totally out so I haven’t worn them in years. That’s what’ll happen to that horrible jacket you’re always wearing. Hey mom, don’t you think Vivian looks like a total lesbo-”
“Sarah!” their mother yelled. “Don’t call your sister...that. Let her wear what she wants to wear. Vivian, ignore her. She’s not making any sense.”
“Don’t worry. I’m just gonna pretend she stopped after telling me I’m her favorite sister...I mean, it’s just me and Carol so there’s not much contest, but still.” she mumbled.
“Carol,” Sarah scoffed. “I’m glad she’s not coming to the wedding. You know, her and Tommy totally did it in your bed while you and dad were on that cruise. And I never told anyone because I am like the best sister.”
Vivian wondered if maybe she had somehow died and gone to hell.
---
There was only one car parked in Vivian’s driveway. That didn’t really help Billy much. He parked his Camaro at the curb and quickly made his way up the walkway to the front door. He rang the doorbell three times, his leg bouncing with nervous energy as he waited for someone to answer.
Eventually Carol did. “...What are you doing here?” she asked, sneering at Billy.
He didn’t answer her. “Is Vivian here? Can I talk to her?”
“She’s at the church with the rest of my family. My mother actually grounded me from going. Can you imagine? It’s their loss. I’m the only one that looks good in those disgusting bridesmaids dresses Sarah picked out.” she said with a flip of her hair.
Billy rolled his eyes. “Carol, I really don’t give a shit. I’m kinda on a time crunch here.”
Carol narrowed her eyes at Billy, as if she had finally heard what he was saying. “Wait, what do you want with Vivian anyways? What, are you trying to get back at Cheryl for dumping your ass or something?”
“She didn’t dump me. We were never dating,” he said through his teeth. “Why’s it your business anyways?”
“Because I’m gonna have to hear Cheryl bitch about it when she sees the two of you together,” she scoffed. “Besides, you’ll totally get bored with Vivian anyways. She’s a total loser.”
“Carol, can you just shut it and give me the address to this damn church?”
Carol rolled her eyes dramatically and let out an annoyed groan before disappearing inside. Eventually she came back with a folded piece of paper. “Here you go, Romeo. Enjoy your blue balls.” she said with a tired sigh.
Billy didn’t say anything. He snatched the paper from her and headed back to the Camaro. He slid into the driver’s seat, muttering angrily to himself. The church thankfully wasn’t too far. He could make it in time. He just needed to make a stop at Bradley’s Big Buy first. “I’ll show her Romeo.” he mumbled, stomping down on the gas.
---
Vivian looked at herself in the mirror and sighed. The poofy, purple dress that Sarah had picked out for her to wear was simply hideous. She expected something a little more bearable with all Sarah’s talk of the latest trends in fashion. Then again, maybe the latest trends were just ugly.
Sarah wasn’t really fairing any better than she had been that morning. Their mother had tried to get her to drink some coffee in hopes it might dull the effects of the muscle relaxers, but now Sarah was jittery on top of loopy. There was no way she would be able to make it down the aisle alone much less in one piece. At least this might make things a little more entertaining.
Vivian’s parents decided it was best not to tell Kevin about Sarah’s...situation. The last thing they needed was for him to start nervously hovering around and stressing Sarah out even more. Vivian thought it was sort of sweet. She definitely didn’t see whatever it was that Kevin saw in her sister, but she was a little envious. Vivian found her mind wandering to thoughts of Billy and she sighed. At least he’s not here to see me in this stupid dress, she thought with a grumble.
“You alright, Vivian?” her dad asked from beside her.
“Huh? Oh, yeah. I’m just tired,” she lied. “Is the ceremony starting soon or what?”
Her mother was using all of her strength to try and pull a half conscious Sarah out of her seat. “As soon as I get your sister up on her feet.” she said with a grunt. Her dad hurried over to help. Sarah finally stood up, her head lolling over to the side as she let out a sniff.
“Daddy,” she began. “This is so sad. I’m getting married and I’m not gonna live with you guys anymore.” she cried.
Their father smiled thinly and patted his oldest daughter on the arm. “You don’t live with us now, sweetheart...let’s just go hand you over to Kevin, hmm?”
“Oh, Richard,” his wife scolded. “Now isn’t the time for jokes. Vivian, when it’s time for you to walk down the aisle, don’t waste any time, okay? We need this to be over as soon as possible. Or at least before your sister passes out.”
“You don’t have to worry about me.” Vivian said with a salute.
All things considered, the wedding hadn’t gone too badly. At least, aside from Sarah falling half way down the aisle, taking her father and a good amount of the decorations with her, and nearly yelling “Oh my god, what is that fat cow doing here?” as they passed by Kevin’s mother. Vivian was almost sad Carol hadn’t been there. She would have loved it.
Their mother had stood next to Sarah during the ceremony, her arms held out wide and ready to catch Sarah in case she fell. Kevin looked slightly terrified, which was to be expected. Once Sarah and Kevin were officially married, their father had to help Kevin practically drag Sarah down the aisle and out to the limo.
The guests all stood on the steps of the church, waving goodbye to the newly married couple. Vivian’s mother let out a loud sigh next to her. “Thank god that’s over.”
Vivian’s father wrapped his arm around her shoulders “Vivian, sweet pea, I’ll buy you a car if you promise you’ll elope.”
“Richard.” Her mother scolded. “Don’t listen to him. He’s kidding. Aren’t you, Richard?” But Vivian wasn’t really paying attention. The wedding guests had started to disperse, on their way to the reception. A familiar blue Camaro was parked across the street. Vivian felt her heart pounding in her chest as her eyes met with Billy’s. There was no way this was actually happening.
“...Isn’t that Carol’s friend?” she heard her mother ask. Vivian ignored her. Billy gave Vivian a lopsided grin before awkwardly waving.
Vivian turned to her dad, looking up at him with big, pleading eyes. He smiled and waved her away. “Go. Your sister won’t remember her reception anyways.” He joked. Vivian hugged her dad tightly, picking up the skirt of her hideous purple dress and hurried across the street to meet Billy.
“Hi…” she said quietly. “Um...Carol isn’t here.”
“I know. I went to your house to see you and she told me you’d be here,” his grin had turned into a smirk. Vivian felt her cheeks burn at his confession.
“You wanted to see me?”
“Yeah,” Billy rubbed at the back of his neck. “I’ve been trying to get a hold of you since last night. I called, but your grandparents kept answering…”
Vivian shut her eyes tightly and let out a groan. “Oh god,” she mumbled. “I am so totally sorry.”
Billy let out a soft laugh and shook his head. “Don’t worry about it. I was kinda thinking maybe we could go do something? Celebrate your birthday? I got a cake with your name on it.” He jabbed a thumb at his car. Vivian could see a small, white cake covered in sprinkles with her name scrawled across in pink icing.
“You got me a cake?” She asked with wide eyes. You’re worth it, honey. The right guy will see it. Her father’s words from the night before were playing over and over in her head.
“Yeah. I mean, you said your family forgot so-“
Vivian reached up on her toes, taking Billy’s face into her hands and kissed him. Her stomach wouldn’t stop doing flips. She almost felt dizzy when she felt Billy’s hands rest firmly on her hips.
She was sure her face was beet red when she finally pulled away. She turned around, feeling a wave of embarrassment wash over her when she saw her parents still standing there on the church steps, pretending not to look. Great. That’s what every girl dreams of; her parents watching her first kiss.
Billy only smirked down at her. “...You wanna get out of here?” He asked with a chuckle.
Vivian nodded enthusiastically. “Please.” Billy opened the passenger’s side door for her. Her heart was hammering in her chest again as he slid into the driver’s seat next to her.
Billy took her in with an amused smirk, Vivian looking over at him with a shy smile. “...Dig the dress.” He teased.
Thanks, wanna rip it off with your teeth? Vivian cleared her throat, shaking the thought away. “Just shut up and drive, Hargrove.” She muttered, biting her lip to keep herself from smiling.
“Whatever you say, Birthday Girl.”
Vivian decided to take back everything she had said for the past two days. All of her complaints and sassy comments. Riding in the Camaro next to Billy, loudly listening to Tank, Vivian decides this was her best birthday yet.

stranger things season 3 review
SPOILERS AWAY, BITCHESSSS
(If you saw the season already, read more!)
Alright, this season had a lot of things I liked, and a few things I did not like, so let’s go over them bit by bit.
- I did like Eleven and Mike, I still ship them (have shipped them since they first talked in s1, lel) I know some people call their relationship unhealthy, but I really don’t see it??? Like yeah Mike was a low-key asshole to her in the first season, but he’s grown, and even in season 1, he wasn’t that much of a dick to her, it’s just her powers would freak him out sometimes. I like that they play out like the typical high school romance, they are still very cute (although I feel bad for Finn and Millie, the makeout scenes were probably super awkward to shoot.) I like that Mike struggled with saying I love you to Eleven, because as someone who’s watched Supernatural, and is too aware of characters struggling with saying I love you (I myself struggle with saying it,) I could relate to Mike in that way.
-speaking of Eleven, why the fuck are they still calling her that?? It was hinted at the end of last season that because Hopper adopted her, they’d start calling her Jane. Idk, I feel like El should be given a proper name, and not just given a name that reminds her of her life in the lab. Just saying.
-Joyce and Hopper. I will not lie, I shipped them since season 1, and have been just waiting for their confirmation this whole time. I got that confirmation, but not in the way I wanted to. Seriously, what was the point of them killing off Hopper? That just adds more shit onto the psychological harm pile done to Eleven, and also Joyce, who lost Benny last season. (Although to be fair, it was hinted that Hopper might possibly still be alive.)
-I am so fucking happy they used Murray again this season, I think he’s a very interesting character, and I would’ve been annoyed if he was never mentioned again.
-ALEXEI, MY RUSSIAN BABYYYY. He deserved better, wtf is wrong with everything??? (Also, am I the only who low-key got Murray/Alexei vibes, cuz idk the way they talked to each other in the final few episodes was.....well....ya know.)
-I am sorta annoyed that Will was so underused this season. They made him this super big deal last season, and all of a sudden this season... the only reason he’s in the plot is to detect when the MF (mind flayer) is nearby. Also, I am happy that it’s basically confirmed he’s gay, but idk....I don’t know why that’s important at all?? With Robin, it made sense because it was sorta building up (also subverting expectations) but with Will, it sorta felt out of place??? unless they give him a love interest next season, I don’t see why it was needed. (I really hope they give him a love interest next season, jesus christ...)
-ROBINNNN THE LESBIAN/POSSIBLY BI QUEEN. I love her so much. I thought she and Steve might have ended up an item, but again....subverting expectations. I am happy that she’s a queer character, and I am happy that Steve is accepting of her (especially considering how uncommon acceptance was back then...) She is an awesome character, and I’d love to see more of her.
-Max and Eleven are the ULTIMATE friendship. Although I have to ask, why did we need to spend an entire episode with them bonding, like???They’ve had a whole year, you would think that by now they would’ve been better friends. Or maybe it was an excuse to show the girl time.
-Dustin is awesome, I love my curly-haired boy. He still remains one of the smartest characters on this show, and I like how him, Erica, Steve and Robin all worked together to figure out what the Russians were doing.
-Lucas was just...sorta there?? Like he didn’t do much this whole season, I wish he had more development. Like I get it, there’s a lot of plot points to follow and not a lot of time to do everything, but I want Lucas to have more character, jeez.
-Billy, ooooh boy. I am happy they explained his backstory, and I feel like he deserved a lot better this season. I think it’s unfair that they killed him off the way they did, because now Max has to suffer the trauma of her brother dying right in front of her (asshole or not, Billy was still Max’s brother, and she cared about him.)
-Hopper is best dad. He just wanted to protect his daughter (and Joyce) and he died for it. (Or maybe not, we don’t know.)
-why the hell did we not get more insight into the upside down, or anything in it??? this season was basically a copy of season 2, except the mind flayer had a bunch of zombies walking around. I mean, we deserve to know more about the upside down, considering the important parts in this show are centered around it. why does it exist? why was the gate originally in hawkins lab, but is now in a secret Russian lab under the mall? how the fuck did the mind flayer manage to waltz about hawkins during the final few episodes, and nobody noticed? i want answers!!!
-speaking of the russian lab, why is it under the mall to begin with?? you can’t tell me they built that lab and nobody noticed. the mall is a pretty popular spot until the plot needs it to be empty, so why was there a lab there? Hawkins lab made sense, because 1, it wasn’t underground, and 2, because it was sorta shut off from the rest of Hawkins. it made sense why nobody would question it.
-why are the Russians the “villains” this season anyways? I get it, that shit was a pretty big deal in the 80s, but making the Russians the villains just feels sorta out of place. What I mean is, they didn’t have to work in real-world history to make the plot work, they could’ve done something else.
-I get this show has a formula, where there’s some shit going on with the upside down, and the three parties all find out certain information that ties everything together, and the three parties meet up in the final few episodes, but why can’t we change that formula? seriously.
-why are the parents of everyone who isn’t Will or Eleven (yes, Hopper is her dad) are just so not concerned with where their kids are? Again I get it, it was the 80s, people didn’t really worry too much about their kids back then, but I feel like Dustin’s mom, Lucas’s and Erica’s parents, and Mike’s parents just pay so little attention to what is going on with their kids. Hell, Dustin was gone for 24 hours trapped in the Russian lab, you’re seriously telling me his mom wasn’t worried? whatever, it’s just like IT where the adults don’t pay any attention to the kids.
Overall, I liked this season, but I wish they had done a lot more. Considering the ending, I am pretty sure there’s gonna be a fourth season, but godammit Duffer bros, you better wrap up this show with a SATISFYING ending (ya know, where Hopper is alive.)
I rate this season a 7/10.

part three: don't wait up (steve harrington x reader)
word count: 2.6k
warnings: kinda angsty
preview: “It came out of nowhere, the overwhelming wish that you hadn’t been involved. Some days, your wish didn’t seem worth it. There were bright sides here and there: you had found new, unlikely friends in Nancy, Jonathan, Steve, and the kids; Mrs. Byers was like a second mother to you; and while everyone in town called Hopper “Chief,” you called him Hopper. Or Jim, to irritate him.
Other days, however, all you would do was pray that any second you’d wake up from a nightmare and find that none of the bad things had ever happened. At your lowest and darkest points, you would trade in each and every bright side for things to go back to the way they were before.”
a/n: hey my loves! so sorry for taking so long with this update--college is rough. only got two more weeks left in the semester, though, and after that I'll have a ton of time to write!! I can’t wait! enjoy this chapter (still haven’t titled this pic yet, not sure if I ever will)! love u all :)
“What happened?” you asked for the thousandth time. It felt like your vocabulary consisted only of those two words, or you were from another country and that was the only question you knew how to ask in English.
Jonathan and Nancy stood in the foyer like deer in headlights, looking around like they had never been inside of any kind of house before, ever. They had been communicating with each other through lingering glances and light touches, but neither of them had said a word to you since they’d asked to come inside. You were starting to panic. Your breaths came quick and shallow.
“I’m about to start crying,” you said. “What happened?”
Jonathan finally spoke. “We’ll tell you,” he said. “Can you go wake up Steve first?”
“Yeah, I can.” You started toward the stairs, but stopped short. “Wait, I don’t know where his room is.”
“I’ll go,” Nancy said. She gave Jonathan’s hand a squeeze before she brushed past you and jogged up to the second floor, disappearing around a corner.
You looked at Jonathan and he looked at you. “Is it bad?” you whispered.
He nodded, and you winced.
Violently, your brain flashed back to the times when you were young and your parents would call you and your siblings into the living room to tell you that a close relative had passed away. While you never knew for sure what they had to share, you could always guess that it was bad news because they would have the same look in their eyes that Jonathan did then: defeated, like they knew something they didn’t want to know.
All of you—anyone who knew about the Upside Down—looked like that from time to time. It came out of nowhere, the overwhelming wish that you hadn’t been involved.
At your lowest and darkest points, you would trade in each and every bright side for things to go back to the way they were before.
“Guys, Steve’s not here,” Nancy called. She ran down the stairs, taking them two at a time with unsurprising grace. Everything she did was graceful. “I looked everywhere. Y/N, where’d you last see him?”
You shivered as you realized you’d been alone in the house for God knows how long. You could have sworn Steve had been upstairs in bed. You combed through the hazy memories of your interactions with him, but couldn’t come up with an answer. “I don’t know,” you said. “I’m sorry.”
“Well, this is just perfect,” Nancy said. She sank down onto the bottom step and put her head in her hands. “One more missing person.”
One more. One more missing person. You looked back and forth between your two friends. “Someone’s missing? Who’s missing?” You breathed in sharply. “No, please tell me it’s not Will.”
“Nance, we were gonna break it to her gently,” Jonathan said.
“I can’t do gentle right now, Jonathan,” Nancy muttered.
“Tell me it’s not Will,” you repeated, that can’t say anything else feeling rushing back. You were jumping to the worst conclusions you’d ever jumped to. The monsters were back. The gate was open. Will was gone, just like ’83.
“It’s Eleven,” Jonathan said, snapping you out of it. “She ran away earlier tonight.”
You’d never been simultaneously so relieved and so destroyed at the same time. “Wait, what? So Will is okay?”
“Will is fine.”
“What do you mean, El ran away? That can’t be possible.”
It made no sense. Eleven was happier living with Hopper than she’d ever been in her life. She loved him and he loved her. He was like her father, and Mrs. Byers was like her mother. On top of that, Mike and the Party regularly visited the cabin to hang out with her, and so did you, Steve, Jonathan and Nance. In September, she would be able to stop laying low and start attending school—in a lower grade than the other kids, but still. She was so looking forward to it. It was all she talked about.
“I know, but it’s true,” Nancy said. “She left Hopper a note saying she’d be back, but she didn’t say where she was going or why she went.”
“We’re going out looking for her,” Jonathan said. “So are my mom and the Chief, whenever they get back.”
You would’ve asked where they had to come back from, but you felt tears sting your eyes at the mention of Hopper. You couldn’t even imagine what he was going through. He had already lost one daughter, and now another was missing. “Oh my god,” you whispered, sitting next to Nancy on the stairs.
“We came here to get Steve’s help,” Nancy said. She slid closer to you and linked her arm with yours. “We were gonna go get you after we got him.”
You leaned your head onto her shoulder. “Where the hell is he?” you wondered aloud.
“Are you sure he didn’t say anything about leaving?” Jonathan asked.
You shrugged. “I’m not really sure about anything that happened tonight.”
“Can you try to retrace your steps?”
You tried. You remembered coming inside because it had felt really good to get out of the cold, even if you’d been unbothered by it in your inebriated state. You remembered drinking water—a lot of water—at Steve’s request. After that, you must’ve watched The Brady Bunch together, or something. Oh, and he had gone to get you a sweatshirt since you weren’t exactly dressed appropriately for the weather. Or any weather, really. Finally, you fell asleep on the couch, and then you woke up and everything went to shit.
“The last thing I remember is falling asleep in the living room,” you said.
“Where was Steve when you fell asleep?” Nancy asked.
“I don’t know. He probably went to bed.”
“He didn’t say anything to you about leaving?”
You tried to think of the last time you’d heard Steve’s voice. Had he said anything when he gave you the sweatshirt? Had he said goodnight, maybe? Had he… wait. Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait. You didn’t remember anything he had said, but you remembered something you had said. “Go get it.” Hadn’t someone come to the door? Hadn’t he gone to see who it was? You jumped up. “Holy shit, someone came to the door,” you said.
Nancy stood. “What? Who?”
“I don’t know. It’s fuzzy.”
“What if it was Eleven?” Jonathan asked.
Nancy narrowed her eyes. “Why would she come to Steve?”
“I don’t know. He’s always with the kids, you know? Maybe she trusts him more than she trusts us.”
“If she trusts anyone more than the rest of us, it’s my brother. And besides, Steve would’ve brought her back to Hopper. Actually, he probably would’ve grounded her himself.”
Jonathan sighed. “Then who came to the door?”
“The kids?” you guessed.
“None of them know,” he said.
“What? Not even Mike?”
Nancy shook her head. “Especially not Mike.”
The three of you fell silent. It’s a good thing you did, because if you had continued your conversation, you wouldn’t have heard the sound of voices getting closer and closer to the front door.
“I think I hear my brother,” Jonathan said.
“Me, too,” Nancy said, her brows knitting together.
The door opened and in walked Will, Mike, Steve, Dustin, Lucas, and Max. It was like something out of a cartoon: they were arguing viciously and didn’t seem to notice you guys until Nancy cleared her throat. “Um,” she said, “what the hell?”
They froze. For a second, nobody said anything. You all just looked at each other, wondering what in the world was going on.
“Hey, guys,” Dustin said eventually, his tone far too casual.
Lucas smiled far too wide. “What’s up? How’s your night going?”
“What are you guys doing out?” Jonathan asked. “Will, I thought you were in bed. Mom thinks you’re in bed. If she comes home and you’re not there…” He trailed off, shook his head, and started over. “What’s going on?”
Will, who was at the back of the crowd, stepped forward. “I know about Eleven being gone,” he said. “I overheard you and Mom talking in the kitchen.”
Jonathan crossed his arms. “So you told all of your friends?”
“I had to. It was an emergency. I wanted to help.”
“We all did,” Dustin added.
“So you all know,” Nancy said slowly. “You all snuck out of your houses, and you’ve all been out looking for El.”
The kids nodded, except Mike. He stayed still as a statue.
“And you dragged Steve along,” you said. You looked over at Steve and raised your eyebrows. “Thanks for letting me know you were leaving, by the way.”
Steve looked sheepish and was presumably about to apologize when Max spoke over him.
“She was here?” She glanced over at the rest of the Party and grinned. “Nice.”
Dustin, Will, and Lucas gave each other a look. They elbowed Mike, too, but he remained stoic.
You scoffed and started to correct them, but you were interrupted, too.
“Okay, none of this matters, guys. What matters is finding Eleven,” Nancy said.
“She’s not in town,” Steve said. “We looked everywhere.”
“What are Hopper and Mrs. Byers doing right now?” Lucas asked. “Are they out looking?”
“They’re with Doctor Owens,” Jonathan said. “He used to work for Hawkins Lab. He called Hopper and said he needed to talk to him as soon as possible.”
“Talk to them about Eleven?” you asked.
“I have no idea.” He turned to Steve. “Did you guys search the school? The park?”
Steve, Nancy, and Jonathan began to recap their nights for one another, trying to put pieces together. You continued to listen to the conversation, but since you were getting a little lightheaded from standing for so long, you sat down on the floor. The kids seemed to take this as permission for them to sit, too. They all followed suit—Mike a second later than everyone else—and for the first time that night, you noticed how utterly exhausted they all looked. Max kept zoning out and staring off into space, Will was fighting to keep his eyes open, Lucas was actually lying down, et cetera.
You focused on Mike. He was sitting behind everybody else, looking down at his feet. For a boy who wore his emotions on his sleeve and who had just learned his girlfriend was missing, he seemed eerily calm.
You slid over next to him. “Hey,” you said softly, so that nobody else could hear. “Are you okay?”
He flinched and met your eyes quickly. “What? Oh, yeah, I’m okay.”
“It’s okay if you’re not okay, you know.” You put your hand on his shoulder. “If you wanna talk, I’m here.”
He frowned. “I’m fine.”
Without another word, he stood up, walked over to where his sister was standing and threw himself into the conversation. You stood, too, and went to follow him, but Steve grabbed your hand and pulled you back before you could.
“Y/N,” he said. “Can I talk to you?”
You nodded. It didn’t seem like Mike was in the mood to be pressed, anyway. Steve led you into the living room, still holding your hand.
“I really am sorry for leaving,” he said once everyone else was out of earshot. “The kids showed up, said Eleven was missing and probably in danger, and that they needed my help right away. They wouldn’t let me get a word in edgewise. I tried to explain—”
“Steve, it’s okay,” you interrupted. You weren’t annoyed, you were just glad he was back. “I’m fine. I understand.”
“Are you sure?”
“I’m sure.” You half-smiled up at him to let him know you weren’t kidding.
He relaxed and let go of your hand. “Okay. How are you feeling?”
“Physically?” You sighed. “Like I got run over by a bus or two.”
He chuckled. “Yeah, that doesn’t surprise me. What about mentally?”
“Very worried about El.” There had been an ache in your chest ever since you learned she was gone. “And the kids. Especially Mike.” You imagined they must have been terrified. Their friend, who had already gone missing for an entire year, was now missing again. They weren’t showing their fear outright, but then again, they always put on brave faces whenever there was danger.
Steve glanced down the hallway toward the foyer. “So am I,” he said.
Speaking of brave faces, Steve had to be worried out of his mind, too. He’d already had enough to deal with with you traipsing through his house three sheets to the wind, and on top of that, he had been blindsided by the El situation when the kids had shown up at the door.
“Hey, by the way,” you said, “thank you so much for taking care of me earlier. I—I was gonna write a thank you note and leave it for you, but I couldn’t find anything to write with, so I figured I’d just call when I got home. But then Jonathan and Nancy showed up as I was leaving, and so, uh, yeah. Thank you.” You cringed internally. Why could you only talk to him when you were drunk?
“Oh, yeah, you’re welcome,” he said. “Don’t worry about it.”
“No, I feel so bad.” You shoved your hands in your pockets—his pockets, technically—and felt yourself blush. “I totally just barged right in here. I don’t know what the hell I was thinking.”
“Don’t feel bad. It was very entertaining.”
“By ‘it,’ you mean me making a complete fool out of myself, right?”
He nodded. “Exactly.”
“Ha ha. Well, anyway, I’m sorry for being so annoying.”
“You’re not annoying.” He smiled and shook his head. “Not at all.”
Neither of you said anything for a moment. You just stood there, looking back and forth between the floor and each other’s eyes. Then, you did something incredibly stupid. You must have still been a little drunk or something, because it was that stupid. You stepped forward, wrapped your arms around Steve’s waist, and rested your head on his chest. It had to have been the most awkward, unprecedented hug of all time, and you instantly regretted it. You pulled away after mere milliseconds, before he could hug you back (or push you off).
“Sorry,” you said. You actually apologized. You couldn’t have made things weirder if you tried.
“It’s okay,” he said. He looked shy and frazzled and very unlike his usual cool and collected self.
“We should, um, go see what’s going on with everybody else.”
He nodded and averted his eyes. “Yeah, let’s go.”
You stayed a few steps behind him as you two made your way back out into the foyer. You watched his backlit silhouette as he walked ahead of you and cursed yourself for being the world’s biggest jerk. Don’t think about it don’t think about it don’t think about it don’t think about it don’t think about it. You pushed the mistake you’d made out of your head and focused on the much more pressing issue at hand: El was missing, and you were pretty sure Mike knew more about it than he was letting on.
You know the world is cruel when the only thing you have to distract yourself from a stunningly embarrassing moment is a heart-wrenching, harrowing crisis.
