I have uhhhh a new Skyrim OC again. Probably the strongest mage I’ve ever made (I love Severin but he’s a lickle necromancer and everything he summons kills the enemies for him. He persuaded Ancano not to be a dick… this guy would wipe the floor with him). His name is Gwalchmai, an altmer mage specialising in everything EXCEPT conjuration. He doesn’t like conjuring things to do all the work for him. He likes being creative, the fucken psychopath.

He gets on extremely well with Taliesin (maybe a bit too well if you catch my drift) and for some reason he also enjoys Lucien’s company (although Lucien refers to him as ‘Bran’ because Gwalchmai told him to - Gwalchmai witnessed Lucien pronounce his name once with the kiki ‘ch’ instead of the bouba ‘ch’ and was mortified). He lives in Morthal, has a slightly more than friendly rivalry with Sybille Stentor 🥴 and plays court wizard to Jarl Idgrod Ravencrone, because who better to keep the vampires in check in Morthal than another territorial vampire with the spellcasting equivalent of nukes for hands?

Gwalchmai wants Taliesin almost as much as Lucien wants Gwalchmai. He also has a horse named Annwn.

His context? He came to Skyrim as a follower of Julianos, seeking to learn more about his deity by living in the rectory in the temple of the divines. He soon fucked around and found out with Sybille Stentor, however, and hopped out of Solitude and into Morthal - out of her territory - to become Court Wizard to Idgrod. He worries he’s stepped on Falion’s toes, but Falion doesn’t give a fuck; at least with Gwalchmai as the Court Wizard now, the townsfolk don’t hound him as much.

Out of the frying pan and into the fire, though, because now Gwalchmai has to assert himself over Movarth Piquine, and unlike Alva, I don’t think he’s going to be able to fuck his way out of this one.

Killed 200 children (the entire child population of the planetoid she ruled) in order to give birth to a supernecromancer, emotionally abused the resulting supernecromancer daughter including making sure she knew she existed because of the deaths of 200 children, when said daughter committed a horrible blasphemy mostly by accident at 10 she and her husband killed herself and tried to get her daughter to kill herself with them

Couldn’t conceive so she murdered 200 children (an entire generation of the population of her planet) to use their life source to conceive a child. Told said child about how she was conceived from a very young age, causing the child to feel immense guilt about the deaths of all the other children and an extreme pressure to be worth it.

Awake Remembrance of These Valiant Dead Kia Hua Ko Te Pai Snap Back to Reality Oops There Goes Gravity (Commander Wake)

Commander Wake conceived her daughter specifically to sacrifice her in order to kill God and destroy the solar system. Wake further only refers to her daughter as Bomb throughout the entire pregnancy and the only reason that she did not manage to actually kill her daughter is because she died before she was able to do so. Wake then proceeded to haunt her daughter's sword as a revenant in order to attempt to invade the mind of her daughter's best friend.

Had a baby specifically to kill her in a blood ritual to release a “monster” believed to cause the apocalypse. Failed.

Had a child for the sole purpose of killing it as part of a ritual to open the door to the locked tomb. She refers to this baby as “the bomb” throughout her pregnancy.

on this fine evening, after unsuccessfully trying to get skyrim to work, i am once again remembering a conversation i had recently.

when starfield came out, i, mostly jokingly, asked a group of friends "so what is the game about?"

i haven't scouted that many reviews - in fact i only watched a few videos, only one of them post-release - but videogame news seep their way in front of my eyes quite frequently. i have seen reveals and some discussions, but somehow, even after starfield actually came out and people claimed to have played all the way through the main questline, i still knew next to nothing. what is the game about?

and i didn't seek this info on my own - i bet wikipedia has, at this point, been updated to give a rundown of the story - because i noticed this pretty early on and found it entertaining to observe how people talked about it. spacehips, playstyle builds, weapons,.. media criticism in general is at a pretty low point because media comprehension is, but with things like movies, people do discuss themes passionately. even music gets topical analysis, if you're not on the ghost subreddit. tumblr likes to talk themes, of course, the new zelda game has been through it, bg3 is going through it despite all the horny. maybe it's because starfield has barely reached my dash and the only bits of information i see are from gamer bros, but apart from "people have colonized some planets and there's weird rocks", i haven't learned what starfield is about.

the funny rebuttal to this question came, of course, in the form of "well what is skyrim about?"

i do not expect bethesda to write a profound, deep story, those days are gone (since morrowind, or arguably, morrowind is the only one), and tes has it easier thanks to being an estabilished, developed universe, but i feel like it would take more effort to actively not make a describable narrative. like the game's gotta be about something, right? so what is it?

but i actually did think about skyrim in this context. i'm often dismissive of it because 'it's just a blank slate' and that's why it has the biggest modding scene at the moment, and that's true, but there has to be substance somewhere deep down.

it's awfully clear skyrim only ever introduces a concept and then doesn't go nearly as far with it as it could, and it's sometimes frustrating to think about it in the context of tes lore because of this (and modders have attempted to flesh different concepts out with varying degrees of success) but arguably, skyrim is about the inevitability of change. at least that's what i answered in that friend group.

this idea floats around the civil war and even the guild quests but i think it fits the main story with alduin. how he wound up in 4e 201 in the first place, a delayed apocalypse, one that is bound to come at some point. and how ultimately, the ldb doesn't absorb his soul, and even though it really is condensed into a throwavay dialogue option with the chief greybeard, because of how the final battle went down, this apocalypse may still come.

and i think that's a cool idea to at least introduce. maybe my hopes are too high (i'm clowning here hoping it will play a part in the plot of tes6), but since even skyrim, the blandest of them all, has something for the mind to ponder, i can't not ask,

i’m having a really hard time figuring her type out — she’s aware of everyone’s feelings and needs, while also being aware of her owns (fi or fe?), doesn’t talk about her past at all, which can be either inferior si or dominant se, doesn’t show any te or ti traits through the whole show other than using her previous knowledge of sunflowers to grow strawberries in the middle of an nuclear apocalypse. i can’t figure her type or enneagram, but i’m 100% sure she’s a sp/sx to the core. have you seen the show? could you help me type that girl?

Based on her Wiki page, I’d say ESFP 8w7. She is a social extrovert and queen bee who avoids emotional commitments or sharing of herself, she is impulsive and moves on quickly between relationships (Se + 8), she is practical, direct, and prioritizes brutal honesty. Her avoidance of intimacy or vulnerability in relationships stems from 8, along with he hedonism and a 7 wing desire to avoid commitment. She won’t reveal her feelings but clearly has them (Fi) and seems more direct and corrective in her quotations than Fe-ish, so ESTP is unlikely.

Honestly, I’d be all in for that.

Skyrim railroads you into being a goody two shoes even if you mod the hell out of your game and play the most violently racist, puppy-kicking, child eating evil mega villain of all time. No matter how irredeemable your character, no matter which plotlines you take on, you end up the hero.

In a game series that has always marketed itself on player agency, it does a shocking amount of flat out refusal concerning this kind of choice.

It’s kind of sad that the KOTOR games remain the gold standard for that kind of respect of player choice.

I want to team up with Lord Harkon and create a vampire apocalypse. I want to go “you know what? Dissolving Nirn sounds pretty cool.” to the Thalmor and become the vanguard of Mundus’ destruction. I want to be Alduin’s champion, leading a war between dragons enslaved by Miraak and Hermaeus Mora and those loyal to Alduin and eventually reveal that Alduin was the good guy all along and the Blades trying to stop him and other “heroes” fighting to stop the world’s destruction were the actual bad guys. Hell, I want my canonical status as Hermaeus Mora’s champion to actually mean something, or have real drawbacks. I mean, fuck’s sake, back in Daggerfall, you could actually work for Mannimarco and gain standing with his faction.

But that’s now how it works in Bethesda-land now.

Now?

You either die a villain or live long enough to see yourself become the hero.
