I’m of the opinion despite Astarion’s protest and lack of approval gain, later when he’s alone with himself he really appreciates if the player told him they like his laugh lines, and the way his hair curls.

Especially so if being romanced where this scene usually happens well into the part of the relationship when Astarion is catching feelings—going by the general good play through choices bc that’s all I’ve played

been thinking lately about gabby and the dialup a bit

like, on the postcard, right? the postcard photo was taken in 1966, the year before the dialup. crown's phone-heads were so popular in dialtown that basically everyone in town already had one, as we see. all these folks had their heads manually changed over, surgery and all that.

and in there, we've got three characters we recognize- callum himself, of course, then mr. dickens just behind him to the right there (which, like, as the only old-timer in town that we don't hear on callum from..given he elected to get his head phone'd pre-dialup, i'd be really interested to know his thoughts. this is my pie-in-the-sky olandy dlc hope)- and, lastly, tiny little gabby right next to callum.

like, everybody else in this image presumably elected on their own to get their heads done-up. to have the insane surgery that is Total Skull Replacement done. but gabby was literally a Small Child, that choice was made for her, long before she likely even had the ability to fully comprehend what it meant (and soon, the whole world followed). that fact just kinda struck me and has sat with me since.

and there's more to talk about, i think, with regards to her dialogue and her feelings about the dialup and callum himself, but i do think the fact about her head may inform, somewhat, her strong feelings on self-determination. yknow?

Hello! I saw your post on the objectum discourse, first I wanted to say that I think it was a very good post. I know you were a bit unsure about the objectum component, I am objectum and I thought it was a fair description. One thing I did want to mention though, from my observations, some people who experience objectum feel comfortable labelling their attraction as a paraphilia, others do not. I think personally that distinction is unique to the person, because technically paraphilia is classified as a disorder without romantic/attraction (in terms of orientation) and is more about sexuality, and everyone has a different experience of all of that, so as a collective group this label may not fit. Personally I will not ever use that term in relation to objectum because for me it’s largely a romantic/attraction (not solely sexual-based experience) that has been a positive experience on my life/not something I would label a ‘disorder’. I hope this doesn’t add to any discourse or anxiety, and instead gives a bit more clarity on the subject. Like I said I think in general you nailed it, and I hope you feel better soon! :3

Hi, thank you for the feedback! There were a few objectum people who did discuss that, but I was using the definition provided by the LGBTQIA+ wiki and the studies I found on Objectum. I'll keep this in mind in the future when learning more about this sexuality. No problem on the clarification, tho. I am very grateful for it!

I think it's silly that the difference between "wholesome" content and "unwholesome" content is sometimes simply the absence of sex or violence. While those themes are usually inappropriate for children, it doesn't follow that ALL content devoid of them must be only good for children/families.

Some people see "wholesome" and equate it with "underdeveloped, not relatable, simplistic, clean, childish." Because that's what we're used to from moralizing material - something that doesn't seem to be about humans. Stories with taboo topics, like sex, are more likely to be provocative, more likely to show rawness and realness and not be afraid to offend.

That's understandable. But it's devolved to mean simply "content includes sex scene = content is for adults; content has no sex = content is for children." Which means, first of all, that when kids want to act "adult," as they invariably do, they think that means knowing sex stuff. Instead of, you know, all the experience or skills or social knowledge that are necessary to function as an adult, that we don't make such a big deal about. It also means that adults purposely avoid content labeled "wholesome," because to them that's a sign that it has nothing of value to a real person with real world problems.

But why can't a story be funny, interesting, well thought out, developed, relatable, and complex, without ever throwing a punch or showing a tit? That implies that it's the punching and the tit-showing which is valuable, rather than the story itself. That's just silly. If wholesome has to mean "something your Sunday school teacher would think of," then we have to abandon the word completely. Just say "it's a great story." Don't be misled by the word wholesome and definitely don't be misled by an absence of sexual or violent scenes because seriously, wtf. Why should that mean it's not interesting. Why should that mean it's not relatable.

I bet this is more a problem in the puritanical US than it is some other places. Obviously it's not something that happens every time or to everyone, but I see it often enough that it bugs me. People always say "there's too much sex and violence on TV" but then don't bother with content that doesn't have those themes, and at least some of the time it's because they think it won't have anything of value to them. So sad.
