Cartoon: Transformers Prime / Robots in Disguise 2015
Characters: Smokescreen, Knock Out, and Bumblebee, with appearances from numerous other characters (even ones not featured in the cartoons)
Synopsis: An Autobot Elite Guard rookie, a Decepticon medic turned Autobot, and an Autobot scout turned warrior turned street cop - three very different bots with a wide range of stories to tell. And we are going to spend the next year exploring said stories through daily-written drabbles, be they angsty, humorous, gut-punching, or just plain odd! Who doesn’t love a challenge? (2016 to 2017)
Witness
The trainees pushed and shoved each other in an effort to see what was happening, exclaiming in shock and disbelief.
"What's going on?" Smokescreen managed to push himself to the front of the group, and he looked up. "Woah."
A bright star streaked through the sky. Even in their confusion, the group was strangely hushed as they all watched it rise higher and higher. Soon, the star was a barely visible speck in the dark sky. The ground gently shook beneath their pedes, drawing more confused exclamations from the trainees.
Smokescreen, strangely enough, found himself at a loss for words...
I Believe I'm in Need of Medical Attention
He was holding an energon stained knife. Pretty much all of the energon was his. He glared at the bot held against the wall, prepared to change that.
The door crashed open. He didn't really pay any attention. He just wanted to pay back every minute of agony he had-
"Smokescreen!" Ultra Magnus said firmly.
Smokescreen blinked. He stepped back, dropping the knife, and Moniker fell to the ground. Ultra Magnus and a team of bots stood out of the corner of his optic.
"...Hey, chief." Forcefully steady, Smokescreen checked his clock; three hours, forty-one minutes. "You're a... bit off schedule."
Level Up
"Yeah, the Elite Guard. That's... Wow."
Smokescreen's doorwings lowered. "What's wrong? I thought you'd be happy for me."
"I am!" Bluestreak exclaimed. "I mean, the Elite Guard! That's really impressive! But... you've already been part of the squad this long. I guess I was hoping that Prowler'd be the one to toughen you up. It certainly makes family reunions easier."
Smokescreen laughed, but it wasn't entirely sincere. "Yeah, I was kinda hopin' that too. But c'mon, Blue, this is the Elite Guard! The best of the best! With them, I'll finally get the training I need to actually do something in this war!"
Hailing from Nowhere
An otherworldly shriek sounded from the end of the hall. Smokescreen paused, doorwings dipping instinctively.
The arena master laughed. "Scared, Praxian?"
Smokescreen scoffed, doorwings stiffening. "In your dreams, pal." He resumed his weapons check. "And I'm not Praxian."
"Indeed. Then where is it you hail from, youngling?"
"Slag if I know. There wasn't much to hail from by the time I came 'round."
"Interesting. A no one hailing from nowhere."
"If that's how you wanna view it, old timer, fine." Smokescreen finished his weapons check and activated his cannons. "But this no one's gonna kick your aft when he gets outta here."

I just read your seeker bird kiddo (Jack) and Truck dad Optimus adventures and I beg for more content, I adore it all and the spOoky cryptic parts are 👌
👁️👄👁️
Jack accidentally triggers mechs’ protective instincts because he makes baby bird noises to mimic the local corvids. It doesn't help that Jack parks himself at the entrance to the Ark and plays games with the more playful blackbirds. Dadimus is very much used to Jack’s imitations, the rest of the Autobots (and his counterpart) are most definitely not.
The chirping and screes are reminiscent of newsparks’ calls for attention and care, and it drives the resident Seekerkin up the wall because he is the only sparkling in the vicinity and Jack punches the Seekerkin-coding into activity after four million years of dormancy.
There have been a few jokes to take a recording of the sparkling’s noises and play it to the Decepticon Seekers after the Autobots had seen their own Seekerkin with the kid. TFP Optimus is immediately No. Stop. Control, Alt, and Delete that terrible plan. He will take Jack and run into the most remote environments he can find.
No one knows how Jack did it, but the blackbirds got into gambling, and everyone blames Smokescreen.
He's partly to blame with the cards, but the dice is Bluestreak's fault.
Jack is a polite menace. The kid knows his manners, but that doesn't stop him from skipping up the walls, hanging on the ceiling, and popping into places that he shouldn't have access to. At all.
Mechs were confused why Dadimus pinged out so often but then realized that's the most reliable way to actually tag Jack as he's a slippery little thing. Sometimes the sparkling responds, but usually he doesn't.
Red Alert is on the verge of having an aneurysm since Jack can bypass all the security measures. Mechs have taken to looking up to see if Jack is trapezing on the panels or checking under the tables and desks because of near unfortunate incidents of almost shooting the kid or shock-related delays with time-sensitive chemical reactions that nearly turned the ship into a massive crater.
Dadimus was highly disappointed and upset by the last part as Jack knows better as he had done similar stunts when they were upon research vessels. Not only Jack had to apologize to Skyfire, Wheeljack, and Perceptor, but he wasn't allowed to stray from Dadimus' field for a month. ("Curiosity cannot override safety protocols.")
On one camera, Jack would be at a corner by the entrance with organic birds, and between blinks he would then disappear and reappear across the ship, talking excitedly to a random corner with a different group of birds.
(If anyone catches them at the right second, at the right angle, at the right frame... the raven/crow/jackdaw/jay will ripple. Feathers dripping and flowing like an inky waterfall and eyes splitting into multiple, countless pairs as Jack's shadow expands- And then, the watcher will blink because they have to, and the footage will reset. Devoid of Jack and blackbirds.)
There's talk about new cryptids going around. It's silly Halloween and superstitious nonsense… until it isn't.
Due to Smokescreen, Bluestreak, and the Aerialbots constantly monitoring the perimeter or setting traps that are becoming more elaborate each week, it's becoming a new running joke. It's the Autobot snipe-hunting. All because of Jack's devoted drawings of strange, contorted creatures.
They're adamant that something is outside.
(They’re right).
An eerie thing begins to appear at the nearby dunes by the Ark’s entrance. It’s vaguely canine and its size is constantly changing. They can smell a wildfire in the air and taste ash upon their tongues as it beckons them to follow with a heavy, burning gaze.
Before anyone follows, a racket of shrieking blackbirds breaks them out of the trance. When the piercing noise fails, then a nasty peck to some skin or exposed protoform is enough to bring them back to their senses.
“It’s looking for something that can’t be regained,” Jack speaks with a keenness beyond his age and a lilting cadence. A flurry of pictures of the same dark canine by a campfire with multiple individuals and groups sitting by it. It remains unchanged, despite the others’ fashions and vehicles it managed to beckon to it. “Don’t be taken by its ancient sorrow. You won’t escape its grasp.”
Between the space of desert and forest, there’s an old barbwire fence and a seemingly endless dusty dirt road that has never been updated to proper asphalt, despite its existence for over a century and all the grumbles and complaints by humans and Cybertronians.
When it rains, a phantom of a massive stag appears. Dark and regal, it gently trods along the path, always towards the forest, never in the opposite direction. Perched upon its twisted antlers is an owl with multiple wings, spread out and spotted with many painted eyes, a feathered and watchful halo with a cry that echoes in everyone’s ears and audials. It leaves no tracks, just deep puddles with flickering shapes in its vast depths that immediately dry when people look away.
The mechs start to understand that the local humans’ grumblings and complaints are half-hearted, and when it starts to drizzle, everyone stays inside.
“It’s older than all those that vaguely remember its beginnings,” Jack murmurs to a window full of drawings in the condensation, sleepy in the colder weather as he curls in a heated seat. “Dreaming and wandering, yet always returning to the place that crowned it King.”

Sjjdfj considering the current idea of a look for Silverlight as an adult, some mecha will be confused about their name (hey maybe it'll be assumed it's a Bluestreak situation) as silver will only be 1/3rd of her color scheme.
So far as of adult color scheme, I'm thinking a predominantly navy-blue helm + forearms and crimson chassis + shoulders, like their sire. But her servos and lower legs will be mostly silver with red highlights like his carrier (kinda like prewar megatronus, actually!)

Who is your favorite Transformer to draw? (From any of the shows, movies or comics.)
Tumblr media
I have a lot of them, so I doodled some of the Transformers characters I like drawing the most! (Which all just kinda turn out to be my favorite characters anyway, LOL.)
Sari, Bee, and Screamer are definitely the ones I know how to draw from memory at this point (though sometimes for Starscream I double check my references for proportional accuracy). I find myself doodling Bumblebee and Starscream the most out of the bots, Bumblebee in particular since his design is rather simple. When it comes to mindless doodling, I usually do Sari or Bumblebee the most.
Starscream in particular is a character I just love drawing no matter what design of his it is (Bayverse excluded because I am NOT trying that again unless I have to), but I find myself doodling his TFA design the most, so I just drew that.
I adore Blurr's design but MAN I can never get the proportions quite right. I was double checking my references so many times, especially with that extra spike on his head.
I love drawing Rodimus, Blitzwing and Knock Out, but even still, they are a pain in the BUTT to draw. I just went to simple doodles for them.
I couldn't fit them on the page, but I like drawing TFA Megatron, TFP Starscream (for the most part, I hate drawing his head sometimes), and the MTMTE holoforms (Rodimus, Bluestreak, and Rung in particular) as well.

Prepare for Trouble
"Hey, can we stop talking about work? Just for a bit? I mean, I haven't seen you for awhile. I want to hear how you're doing from you, not from some weekly message."
Before Prowl could reply, a certain adolescent sparkling ran up to the two strolling bots. "Prowl, guess what!"
"Not now, Smokescreen," Prowl said automatically.
Prowl's companion broke into a grin. "Ah, so this is the kid you've been telling me about!"
Smokescreen stared at the bot, bemused. "Prowl's been talkin' about me?"
"Yeah! Prowler's told me all about you! I'm Bluestreak, by the way."
"Oh!" Smokescreen quickly saluted. "Smokescreen."
Welcome to the Family
"So, if you're not an officer, and you're not a new squad member, then what are you?"
Bluestreak couldn't help laughing at the sparkling's utter confusion. "I'm just an old friend of Prowl's. Well, I think of him more as a brother, really."
Smokescreen frowned. "You're his brother?"
"No, no," Bluestreak laughed. "Not exactly. See, after my home was destroyed, Prowl took me in. He watched over me, helped me get better, and even trained me. So in that sense, I view him as my big brother. Which, hey! When ya think about it, kinda makes you my brother too!"
Hope It's Worth It
"And you're positive it was the Alchemor?"
Jazz shrugged. "Pretty positive. I just kinda took Bumblebee's word for it, and believe me, that bot's word always means somethin'."
"Yeah, tell me about it." Smokescreen sighed, pressing a servo to his helm. "Earth... Primus, that's gonna be real pain in the aft to get to."
Jazz tilted his helm, a sign of mild concern. "Kid, I don't know exactly what you're hopin' to do, but I can tell a lotta big bots are gettin' really jumpy about it. So whatever you're doin', for your sake, I sure hope it's worth it."
"Yeah, me too."
Marks of a [Youngling]
"Hello, sir. My name is Smokescreen. I've been assigned to be your bodyguard."
The words were practiced, respectful and to the point. The bot who spoke them stood rigidly, faceplates neutral, like one standing before a commanding officer - all marks of a trained soldier, ready to take orders and obey them.
But there was something about the way his doorwings nearly quivered in their stiffness, about the way his faceplates struggled to remain neutral, that suggested something else - a youngling who wanted to be anywhere but here.
The archivist smiled warmly. "Hello, Smokescreen. My name is Alpha Trion. I am very pleased to make your acquaintance."

Something ive realised while rewatching tfp clips
Soundwave is only able to open portals willy nilly cus the mechanism for space bridge technology is on the nemesis, not him. he can only connect to it and make it open portals (which makes me wish Astrotrain was in the show cus I wonder if he would have this tech as well to help with travelling)
My source? When Soundwave is sent out to get a relic of Iacon and alserbeak gets hurt. Once Laserbeak sends his distress signal Soudnwave even forgoes taking out Wheeljack and just leaves immediately to get his partner, but he didn't use a spacebridge, despite the alternative being much quicker and immediate to retrieve Laserbeak. The best answer we have is that he couldn't create a bridge between their two locations because the nemesis was too far to recieve his commands to make one
In Shockwave's hunt for a predacon bone Soundwave arrives at the scene and is able to summon another bridge to let the falling bone piece fall into Megatron's hand. This scene shows bridges are made by commands through him, and there's a limited but large range distance Soundwave is able to make bridges outside the ship
And perhaps bridges can be timed or just made to hold open? because the first bridge remained for quite some time till both mecha ran back in
How dare you question Soundwave’s abilities /lh
When I first watched TFP, I assumed that was indeed the case, but I happen to have an interesting personal take on this.
Tumblr media
Why Soundwave Wouldn’t Take a Ground Bridge Directly to Laserbeak
In reality, the writers went that way for the purpose of suspense. They needed to give Ratchet and Raf time to load Laserbeak. Also, the badass shot of Soundwave landing in the dark lol
For plot reasons that still bug me, Laserbeak wasn’t able to tell Soundwave that Ratchet was keeping him captive and had literally violated his body.*
Soundwave only received a generic distress call. He didn’t know if Wheeljack had come alone. For all he knew, the Wrecker could have called for backup in the form of the entirety of Team Prime, who may have set up a trap for him. Soundwave’s a tactical genius—he knows what others know about him. He would have known Team Prime would be expecting him to come via ground bridge.
Yes, Soundwave knew Laserbeak was in danger, but he also knew the Mini-Con was alive. He would have calculated the odds and selected the route at the intersection of the least risk and best potential outcome.
Overall, arriving via direct ground bridge would have been riskier than flying in. At least from the air, he could assess the situation before walking into a potential trap. He’s good, but not take-on-all-of-Team-Prime-at-once good.
Also…
Wheeljack: “I’m sorry.”
Ratchet: “What’s wrong? Where are you?”
Wheeljack: “Uh. Figure you got maybe…two minutes.”
Ratchet: *sees Soundwave flying in*
Ratchet: “Or less…”
Maybe Wheeljack’s estimate really was that bad.
Maybe Soundwave is faster than he looks.
OR
Maybe Soundwave used a ground bridge sometime during the flight, but far enough away from Laserbeak’s location so that he could still assess potential danger from the air.
*This plot hole still bugs me. If Laserbeak had just told Soundwave he’d been loaded up with a grenade and infected with a virus, the Autobots would have lost the race for the relics. You had ONE job Laserbeak! 😡 /lh
Ground Bridge Limitations
I present this glorious clip:
Based on Fix-It’s reaction and everything we’ve seen about ground and space bridges, only one portal at a time can be opened from a single bridge mechanism.
It’s reasonable to assume that when Prowl and Bluestreak engineered the first space and ground bridges (The Covenant of Primus), they found out very quickly that more than one portal per bridge was a bad idea. They would have then ensured that all bridge apparatuses were engineered with these limitations in mind.
However, nothing prevents two separate bridges from opening two different portals near each other, as we see in TFP and RiD15.
All this to say, in the clip above, there’s no way the second portal could have been opened from the junkyard’s bridge. It had to have originated from another bridge apparatus (assumed to be built into Soundwave’s body).
But couldn’t Soundwave have just tapped into the junkyard’s bridge from the Shadowzone and hijacked it that way?
Highly unlikely.
Even taking into account inter-dimensional radio waves, nothing would have happened because, like I mentioned earlier, all bridges are likely designed to prevent two portals from opening at once. (Signal blockers, limited power capacity, etc.)
Soundwave would’ve had to have been physically there to restructure the physical ground bridge mechanism, in order to increase its power capacity (among other things). Even so, the implied physics of portal “streams” prevents this.
And anyway, Soundwave is later seen at the controls, linking himself to the junkyard’s ground bridge. This tells me he wasn’t connected to it before, so the portal he originally opened was all him.
Back to TFP
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the Predacon bone scene, at one point, both portals were open at the same time. This means one of them probably originated with Soundwave, unless the Decepticons figured out a way to build a bridge that supports more than one portal.
But even if they had, it would be considered an exception, since many years after the events of Prime, Fix-It and the others still believe two portals from the same bridge mechanism isn’t possible.
So, can Soundwave open bridges on his own or not?
I think it’s likely that the writers intended for him to be limited in his ability to open bridges, lest he be a little too OP. (As if he wasn’t already. lol)
However, what all of those limitations are isn’t 100% clear. The most common take is that he can only open them when linked to a control mechanism, but there’s at least one exception to that in RiD15.
All things considered, I think Soundwave can open bridge portals on his own.
Things to consider when opening portals without a link to an external bridge control:
Energy consumption
If at all possible, Soundwave would avoid opening his own portals when fighting because it uses up a lot of energy—energy that may be needed in unexpected combat. He’s an excellent fighter, but he has limits that he knows very well. Tapping into an existing control mechanism would eliminate the energy drain that comes with opening portals with a personal apparatus built into his body.
Size limitations
Soundwave wouldn’t be able to open massive ground bridges or even space bridges on his own because of his personal energy (energon) reserves and the limited capacity of the smaller apparatus installed in his body.
One at a time
Like all other bridges, Soundwave would only be able to open one portal at a time—hence why he wasn't able to escape from the Shadowzone by himself.
TL;DR Soundwave can probably open ground bridges on his own, but there are limitations.

Feedback Fest 2024
In honour of International Fanworks Day (today! February 15) I am posting some fic recommendations that I've made in the past. (I am super swamped at work and can't write up any new recs, but I previously rec'd these over on my main blog over the past few years. I'm collecting them together again here on my writing blog!)
These ten rec's are in no particular order, and all are in the Transformers fandom (with some crossovers). Ratings and pairings (if relevant) are noted.
(I also had to split this list into two parts because I waxed too poetic about these fics. See my reblog for the next part. 🙂)
Frivolities by @neveralarch (G, Megatron & Starscream). Summary: “My correct form of address is in my ID tag,” snapped Starscream. “Use it or lose your tongue.” My comments: I love this story. I love it so much I’ve recommended it to people who would ordinarily never read Transformers fanfic, simply because I think they’d appreciate what the author is doing. They took canon and fanon, and from it alchemized a story of dysphoria and wanting to be seen and acknowledged in a way the character wants, and wrapped it up in a tidy package that hits like a truck, and have I mentioned I love this story! (makes fists) Read it!
Working Through It by @trinarysuns (M, Skywarp/Thundercracker/Marissa Faireborn). Summary: “TC,” Skywarp says, “I’m, like, ninety percent sure that humans don’t have interface cables.” Thundercracker squawks and almost knocks him over trying to get the script out of his hands. My comments: I can’t say enough about this story. I love it and it pushed so many buttons for me. Not even smutty buttons, just interaction buttons: humans interacting with giant alien robots, old loves reuniting, logitical issues of interspecies getting it on… Tumblr deleted my review of this story, (SIGH) so I reposted my review on DW here. It says a lot more about this fic!
The Soft Rush of Black Static by Monstrosibee (NR, Bluestreak/Prowl). Summary: Prowl doesn’t know a lot of bots on this newly salvaged Cybertron, and he definitely doesn’t know the bot intruding on his construction site. My comments: While this fic is essentially a fix-it fic for a story from the Aligned continuity, it just destroyed me. You can read the basics of what happened between Bluestreak and Prowl on TFWiki (at the end of Chapter 7 of The Covenant of Primus) but it was devastating to actually read how upset Prowl was by what happened. This short little fix-it brought all those emotions back and then healed them. I loved this.
Someone You Might Have Been by @astolat (T, Megatron/Optimus Prime.) Summary: I didn’t love him because he wasn’t you. My comments: I'm rec'ing this because it's just pure "this is exactly what I want to read!" for me. This is a delightful mashup of the Shattered Glass universe and G1, in which the Optimus Primes from each universe get (temporarily) swapped. It’s an amazingly heartwrenching MegOP story.
Crash Site by Slyboots (G, Breakdown/Knock Out). Summary: June Darby does not believe in aliens, or in haunted highways, or in government conspiracies, or in any other small-town folklore. The new mechanics in town are uncanny, all the same. My comments: I am a sucker for Transformers: Prime fics, and one of the (it's canon! suck it Hasbro) ships from the show that I love is Knock Out/Breakdown. But besides that, I just love the vibe of this story. You can feel Knock Out and Breakdown in it, even if June doesn’t really see them, except out of the corner of her eye. And I am SO HERE for the idea that the two of them got some lovely downtime together before the events in TFP.

It's kind of wild when IDW1 fans try to act as the judges of what is and isn't canon in the Transformers franchise when it's really obvious that it and the couple of shows they probably grew up watching (typically TFA and/or TFP) are their only frame of reference.
For example:
"It's canon Sunstreaker hates organics!"
"TFA Prowl is the only Prowl that isn't a prick!" (This one in particular I see a lot.)
"You can't make fan sparklings because it's canon they pop up from the ground!"
"Megatron is right!"
Have y'all even watched the G1 cartoon, where 0% of these statements are accurate?
Sunstreaker hating organics is pretty exclusive to IDW1 (in G1, he happily places organic human Chip Chase on his shoulder).
Prowl is actually a decent person in most continuities--in fact, in the Covenant of Primus, he has an incredibly sweet relationship with Bluestreak that justifies all fanfic of them (and Smokescreen) being family. I alsovdidn't watch G1 Prowl carefully evacuate and carry a human to safety in Blaster Blues for y'all to say TFA Prowl is the only "good" one!
There are so many different ways new Cybertronians have been made! Including but not limited to: cloning, "budding", just building new ones, and just asking Vector Sigma to grant life to pre-existing vehicles! Deathsaurus and Esmeral have children together. Wheelie is an actual child! It's all made up and the points don't matter!
Do I even need to point out that Megatron's motivations are often Not Great™️ across different continuities?
No one is obligated to watch/read everything in this franchise, but thinking you know everything about the canon of the franchise because you read IDW1 along with watching a couple of the more modern shows is very silly.
