Read the whole thing in one night and cried repeatedly during. I had it looming in the back of my mind for weeks but didn't feel like I was in the right headspace until I suddenly was, and it hit differently. I love Dolores, I love Joel, I love how he sees her, their dynamic, the exploration of her emotions and headspace, her body language. Fantastic. Want to cry just thinking about it so I'm gonna STOP.

Sat and stared at the wall for a long time after this one, then worked up the courage to post TMWH which I seriously don't think I would've had the guts to post had it not been for June. I love how it handles a sensitive, painful, and very real subject, I love that it doesn't paint Joel as a fixer or savior but rather a realistic, kind partner. This one is an excruciating Sit And Think - I didn't cry but I sat there paralyzed for 48 hrs with a thousand yard stare, just thinking intensely about it, after my second read through. Two chapters and I'm already messed tf up over it!! I read them in the middle of the night and then during the day and I have never been this messed up over something labeled PWP before. The passion, the ominous vibes, Cherub being so soft and Joel having this strange dark vibe... I literally just thought about it constantly for two days and I still can't fully put my finger on why. Sweet Child O' Mine - particularly pt ii

This one is so cute and yet it hurts so much. It's so real, the MC is so... I don't even know what to say, she's so on her own and she seems so kind and selfless and it just hurts to think about her cause you can feel her love for her child and for Joel and ugh. She tries so hard to be the best person she can be for everyone and it's one of those situations where nobody is doing anything wrong and yet everyone either is already hurt or gonna get hurt, and I think it's that oscillation between love and hurt that really gets me. I also read this in the middle of the night and all I had to say in my RB was like "thanks for making me cry asshole" (I'm known for my profound commentary).

Fear of God - particularly the epilogue

Fear of God is my all-time fav Joel series, the best Joel characterization I've come across and it generally set the tone for my taste in fic. It was the second series I started reading on here when I came back to Tumblr, and it's the first piece of writing that has ever truly moved me. His character arc is absolutely INSANE !! I made the mistake of reading the epilogue while listening to Ocean Eyes by Billie Eilish, and for months I couldn't listen to it without crying. The day before my graduation, I kept listening to it on repeat in some strange form of self-torture and I had to explain to my bf why I was sobbing. Try to explain all of FoG in a coherent way through tears, I dare u ! I can't say much without spoiling but basically when I think back on getting into fanfic, FoG is what marks the beginning for me and I will never ever forget this piece of writing ever in my life. (Shoutout to when I got caught getting a nut off to one of the FoG extras - I can't really talk about the series without mentioning that)

The Cassandra Complex - particularly ch I, ch IV, and ch VIII

I didn't give much of a fuck about Din before TCC cause i saw him as like a taller hotter R2D2 and now here I am... Eating my words like a ration pack. I have to do a big girthy throbbing TCC reblog cause I have a lot to say about my fav series in the world but basically I can't read ch 4 without crying and even though this is a Star Wars fic and it makes no sense for me to relate to it the most out of anything on Vic's ML, sith girly is the most relatable MC thanks to her constantly feeling haunted by her past, feeling like she's hiding, feeling unworthy, torpedoing herself, and seeing so much beauty in others but struggling to see it in herself. I'll save the rest of my thoughts for the big RB but basically I've even cried at the fucking SMUT in this series like I'm on another planet when I read it (haha get it?? cause Star Wars??)

his palms clapped together in a tight grip, he pursed his lips. a sigh wavered through the air as he straighted his back, and all eyes were on him— the white of his coat painted orange as the day grew, the broach adorning crystals upon his tie shooting beams; beams that caught your eye as you entered with the bottom of your dress, soaking wet. the rain caused your dress to appear blue as the liquid seeped through the fabric, but, “nothing can be done at this moment. the wedding must go on.”

and you felt your back straightening as yeonjun sucked in a breath. tears rushing to his eyes as the air, sharp from everyone's conflicted words about “such a wedding,” pricked his insides so painful. but the lips he was biting so long wavered into a smile, like he noticed your bridal bouquet didn't match your dress at all— yet, were his favorite. their petals drooped as they let yet another raindrop fall onto the sequin of your dress— your trail wetting the carpet you walked on.

and the hushed whispers turned thin until they could no longer be heard— souls of palpitating colors glaring at you like they wanted to be you. all of a sudden, it made sense, you and yeonjun. “of course, why have it any other way?” and, why, “god, how charming does the sun look on her, doesn't it?”

and you watched yeonjun blink away his tears as you stood in front, his cold fingers warming at the touch, the eyes that grew brighter despite the light. and you didn't even hear his vows twisting in his throat as he stumbled— sheer panic across his eyes. but, as the rainbow hit your face as you fluttered your eyes, he knew. his voice wavered, the crowd held in air as he leaned closer.

an eye for an eye. a tooth for a tooth. a soul for a soul. yeonjun believed in his fairness— the right to justice, to take back what had been stolen from him years before, underneath a cherry tree, a pretty sunshower just like this one.

by the end of the day, jonathan's almost always so tired. juggling school and college applications as well as the stress of whatever bullshit hawkins throws at him is enough to tire someone out. or land them in psychiatric care; something jonathan probably needed by the end of this.

but not even life will grant him the joy of sleeping, so of course, jonathan lays there in bed restless. thank god you’re right there next to him to keep him sane and provide all the much-needed comfort this poor man deserves.

you almost always know when jonathan gets like this; he’ll lay in bed as if he’s a corpse. on his back, stiff as a board, with his arms folded over his chest staring straight up at the ceiling.

the best way to approach him when he gets like this is to simply roll over to face him and gently place a hand on top of his own. jonathan won’t say anything, but you’ve caught his full attention. his breathing slows and he’ll turn his head towards yours.

“hi”

“…hi”

“care to tell me what's on your mind?” you say barely above a whisper, voice still laced with sleep. your fingers gently caress his own. jonathan begins to take your hands in his own and clasps them between both hands before bringing them up to kiss your thumb.

“nothing worth saying,”

“you’re not a very good liar,” you mumble, he chuckles lightly. jonathan stares at your hand while trying to think up an excuse before ultimately giving up.

“you caught me,” jonathan shifts to his side, letting go of your hand and replacing it with your head; gently stroking his thumb against your cheeks, carefully pushing any stray hairs peaking out your bonnet back in. “nothing can ever get past you, huh?” he kisses your forehead with a small smile.

silence fills the room once more. you patiently wait for jonathan to find the words to describe how he feels. a simple, “i’m... just tired” escapes his lips in a hushed tone finally.

you hum in response, moving away from him to open up your arms as an invitation, one jonathan took graciously. his arms wrapped around all of you as he cuddled into your chest, sighting contently once he heard your heartbeat.

you understood what he meant. you’ve reached that point as well. there was no need for jonathan to say anymore if he didn’t want to.

and he didn’t. instead, jonathan decided to enjoy feeling your warm embrace envelope him entirely. he felt the safest when he was with you, knowing you were safe and protected, knowing you were still here to hug him just like this.

the feeling of your fingernails trailing paths and patterns on his scalp was oddly calming. it washed a sense of tranquility over his body. he always did like having his hair played with, you seem to always know the spots to trace circles on.

when jonathan closed his eyes, instead of seeing nightmarish imagery of all the freak shit he’s had to go through during the past few years, he saw nothing but total darkness. for once, jonathan was happy to see a complete void. he drifted off into a peaceful sleep.

joonie said this entire album was a recollection of everything hes done in his 20s aka the transformative years of his life and you can ABSOLUTELY hear the member influences (at first i heard the sope influences bc they have the biggest body of work so their style is most distinct but upon relistens its really a love album to his younger self (you can really tell its an evolution from rm and mono) and his members. ALSO i love how he modulates and changes his style and timbre to fit the style and quirks of his featuring artist? hes so fucking cool????? oh my GOD?????? anyways heres the impressions by song:

track one: yun ft. erykah badu very hot of him to start the entire album w 'FUCK THE TRENDSETTERS' the bassline the restraint of a laidback soundscape the reverb set to max the lines 'I wanna be a human / ‘Fore I do some art / It’s a cruel world / But there’s gon’ be my part' is so fucking insane? fuck. this song lyrically is all about uncertainty and the soundscape has a lot of space for growth and white space for art to be exhibited dare i say, its like the debut group's first stage? full of promises and expectations and uncertainty, but you march ahead regardless......what a sexy first song on the track track two: still life ft. anderson paak

BRING IN THE FUNK HELLS YEA VHOPE IS VIBING SO HARD RN I JUST KNOW IT now the empty space and reverb bassline is given some direction and happiness here. still life is a form of art and thus begins rm's first piece of art here in his lil art collection and joon accepting that things will come as they are and ppl will try to reduce him down to one thing, but hes still a fully realized human moving forwards like us all

track three: all day ft. tablo

ok this bassline and instrumental SCREAMS yoongi to me. the lil kick between verses the beats w the bassline the high melody line the bridge that sick transition from verse to chorus like no wonder tablo is here. i know yoongi draws lots of inspiration from epik high so it makes sense. sonically speaking this song takes the funky sounds of the previous track and condenses it and brings a hint of melancholy just in time for our next track. speaking on less fun notes, tablo is really the only other person who survived such vicious tonguelashing and emerged more powerful and a better person and im just glad joonie has someone to look up to.

track four: forgetful ft. kim sawol oh our queen of folk here to deliver some nice kindie chill vibes thank you i need it for our coming song mwah. here we slowly start to hear the funky bright poppy merge to a chill sound this song was for tae i just know it!!! sonically theres some fun stuff going on but it feels like a cooldown piece for the rest of the album. joonie really said i can pull off ALLLLLLLL genres.

track five: closer ft. paul blanco mahalia

the rnb influences the syncopation the pop beats i bet jk is having the time of his life singing to the chorus. the guitar and the beat and the piano makes me an immediate fan. also they modulated the message beep to be in the same key??? as the song?????? AND it gives us a diving board into the electronica of the next song and then the sound expands when joonie comes in???? i love it.

track six: change pt. 2

OOF KIM NAMJOON DID SUM NASTY WORK ON THIS SONG ITS SO GOOD ok ok ok so this sudden electronica synthpop isnt jarring bc joonie did a fantastic job ordering this album BUT you know whats the fucking kicker???? the way he arranged this song. on paper this song should NOT fucking work but it does bc they used the same chord from the synths as the piano that comes in later even tho it turns to double time half way thru the song and it would be amazing at there BUT(dont quote me on this) change and change pt 2 are either in the same key or are on relative keys AND if you listen to change ft wale which starts on the piano and goes to electronica, he does the exact opposite here???? fuck and the lyrics mirror each other as well????? fuckK

I just read this one recently and it has to be an all time fave now. probably deserves it’s own stand-alone rec tbh but I’ll just put it at the top of this list. it’s actually not that angsty in comparison to the others here but I wanted to feature it anyway. the emotional landscape of this fic is so well-crafted and the setting of an art gallery is immaculate. whole time I kept thinking about the way good art can pull you outside yourself and suspend you in the possibility of something strange, challenging, beautiful, haunting, etc. and it’s in this context that harry is being asked to consider a different version of draco that doesn’t match up with his past reality, and they both have to confront their fundamental mistrust of each other. the eventual sex scenes are laced with all this restrained longing, fear, desire, hope etc. it’s just stunning start to finish. one of the most satisfying fics I’ve read in a while. 

Hurricane by phrynne - 120k, E Eleven years after the War, Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy are both still haunted, working themselves to death on the job. But nothing is killing them more than seven years denying their mutual, unrelenting and painful attraction.

god this one always fucks me uppp, like it’s my go-to angst fic when I want ruthless fights and dramatic resolutions. draco and harry have been avoiding the elephant in the room that is their mutual pining for years but it all comes to a head on a drunken night. it messes shit up. draco is deeply incapable of accepting love and harry is too emotionally invested to just be fuck buddies. everyone’s feelings are hurt constantly. “You wanted me to give you pain, because you can’t take anything else from me” —that line from harry is just!! yea. the pre-resolution smut is angst ridden af. the final confrontation is like two chapters and the dialogue is...insanely good but also painful as shit. wrung me outttt but god it makes their eventual love-sex extremely worth it.

Yours to Keep by @dracoismytrashson - 137k, E Some people think concepts like fate and destiny are romantic, but for Harry Potter, fate has always meant one thing: a swift kick in the arse. Why else would he cross an ocean to New York and enroll in Muggle university only to find Draco Malfoy living two doors down the hall? The universe and its twisted sense of humor can fuck right off.

this fic is immense and i love it. the author built an entire post-war college setting with vibrant oc’s and a sprawling city where harry and draco are forced to confront their history in a completely different context and it just WORKS. they both have major issues tho and the fic is them navigating sexuality, identity, mental health, etc. the sex scenes in the context of all their emotional vulnerability and relationship struggles are so beautiful tbh. there are some major angsty bits and for a while there it’s just sad as hell. but the fic spans two years of their life so by the end you really get a sense of what they’ve worked for, how they’ve grown.

Hello anon!! I totally get you 💀 I’m gonna assume that you want me to rec BLs, so I’ll tell you only the ones that I’ve liked best and why, where I watched them, and possible trigger warnings as well for you :)

So first up is my favorite: Theory of Love

Who stars in it: Off Jumpol (as Kai) and Gun Atthaphan (as Third), aka OffGun, aka icons and best friends who we stan to this very day

Why I recommend: I adore this show for so many reasons but overall the vibe is just so good dfhkhkhj It references like a trillion rom-coms and I won’t spoil it but there is a literal montage of some classic rom-com scenes done by the main characters that is just so fucking hysterical, I cry every time. There’s also a compilation here of movie posters that they recreated to imitate some classic rom-coms as well, which made me DIE from emotions I tell you what. This show is just so funny and makes fun of itself with characters that you genuinely grow to adore. Kai is a chaotic dumb of ass bisexual and we love him in this house (as infuriating as he can be lmfao). It’s so rewatchable GOD 10/10 would recommend.

Warnings: There is no sexual abuse in the show of any kind, except for one scene that is just a kiss and very mild, so I think you’d be all good there. :)

History3: Trapped

Who stars in it: Jake Hsu (plays Shao Fei) and Chris Wu (plays Tang Yi), aka weirdos who can’t stop laughing while filming and being dumb in general and I love that for them and me

Why I recommend: I loved it. The main couple is adorable with so much chemistry and I will be totally honest, they remind me SO MUCH of Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian. Like on the rewatch I just did of this show, I couldn’t believe the similarities the character Shao Fei has to Wei Wuxian and his counterpart Tang Yi has to Lan Wangji. Like. When I tell you I was shook the house, I mean it. But the side couple is ALSO iconic the house and the CUTEST like if you don’t want to adopt Zhao Zi and also officiate his wedding by the show’s end, I’d be shocked dfhhkghdjkl All in all, it’s such a funny show with very tender, heartfelt moments that are to die for. This show has it all: plot twists, cops falling in love with mobsters and vice versa, a character whose goal in life is to just eat as much good food as possible… amazing.

Warnings: The show has fighting and violence but seeing as you watched The Untamed, I’m assuming you’re okay with it lol There is an instance where one character tries to rape one of the leads by drugging him, so keep an eye out for that, but I think it will be obvious because he starts to pass out and you will know whether you feel you have to skip the scene or not. He isn’t undressed, it isn’t anything remotely graphic, but he is groped by the asshole I won’t name man fuck that guy but that’s all!

Dark Blue Kiss

Who stars in it: Fluke Gawin Caskey (Mork) and Podd Suphakorn (Sun) aka two of the most gorgeous and sweet dudes alive fdhgldfhgdk AND BL vets, New Thitipoom (Kao) and Tay Tawan (Pete)

First off: dshhgdksj If you haven’t seen Kiss Me Again or Kiss the Series you might be a little confused. Dark Blue Kiss is sort-of-a-continuation-but-not-really of those other two series, and it sort of adds to the experience if you have seen them. If you want to, just watch Kiss Me Again and I think you’ll be okay honestly; it’s just because you might want context of the characters (Pete and Kao, their friends etc.) and their relationships to one another going into Dark Blue Kiss.

Why I recommend: NOW two of the leads, Sun and Mork, have one of The Best relationships in any BL I’ve ever seen because they have real conversations and have real conflict and issues that they work to get through. Rain (Sun’s younger bro and Mork’s bestie) is an absolute delight and their story arc throughout the show is so iconic we just have to stan. I won’t get into Kao and Pete fhhkhdj because I just have Opinions on fucking w characters/relationships for the sake of drama and that’s what I think this series did to them, unnecessarily ahem But otherwise it’s funny and real and again if you dont literally love Mork and Rain and Sun by the end of it did you even watch the same show???

Warnings: There is a brief scene where one character tries to get w another who is like get tf AWAY weirdo lmfao but there is no actual abuse bc they are stopped well in time to avoid it

Where to watch: I watched Dark Blue Kiss on newasiantv as well because the episodes on YouTube tended to not get subbed as quickly as I wanted which you will understand if you watch this lmao. Tharntype the Series

Who stars in it: Gulf Kanawut (Type) and Mew Suppasit (Tharn) aka those two guys who you might see do a shit ton of fanservice that I diligently ignore because I hate fanservice lol This show exists in the same universe as another BL that I am reluctant to put on here lol but will get into later on.

Why I recommend: BEFORE YALL FLAY ME ALIVE djkhgldhgfdjhhkjd OKAY LISTEN genuinely, on a very real level, I FULLY understand why a lot of people here refused to watch this show or couldn’t finish it. You’re totally valid and legit I almost stopped after ten minutes because I was like here we go AGAIN. However! I was so drawn in by the acting that I wanted to give it a chance, and I’m SO GLAD that I did. Gulf and Mew, as well as Mild (who plays Techno) and Kaownah (who plays Lhong) and everyone else who acts in this show, is incredible and their chemistry is insane. I would say it’s some of the best chemistry and acting I’ve seen, BL or otherwise. You get angry at the two main characters interchangeably and I truly feel that that makes it real, you know what I mean? There is no oh he’s in the right, fuck that other guy 100% for either of them. They are both real, flawed men who grow so immensely throughout this series where by the end you’re so proud of their development and the love they find for themselves and in each other??? Because it doesn’t feel like we’ll get there, but they DO. And it’s BEAUTIFUL. We’re getting a second season, which to me is always a tad worrisome because I do think it ended very well and if they fuck with everything (cough KaoPete) just to fuck with it and stir the pot I’m gonna be Upset. But for now, it’s amazing and speaks on topics that aren’t ever addressed. It’s an unfortunate reality in BL that the way so many relationships begin is through sketchy-consensual (drunk, coerced) or flat out like non consensual sexual shit, and this show dives into the aftermath of sexual abuse, the mental impact that has on a person, and how damaging it can be if left unattended. I would give it a chance. I really do think it’s a well done series. Oh and Techno is so relatable and the only one with a brain cell in this show half the time jkdfhhdlkj

Warnings: Like I said, this show is not an easy watch at times. Very often, in fact, it can be difficult. There is homophobic language, two of the characters (I dont want to spoil everything) have been raped in the past, one as a child (which is NOT GRAPHICALLY SHOWN, don’t worry) and the other as a teenager/young adult, which is sort of shown but not in too much detail. Another character in present day “does stuff” to another that isn’t totally consensual, more than once (which is probably my biggest problem with the show and the one thing I really can’t excuse because like bro I don’t care how big your crush is, don’t be an asshole, point blank), but every other sexual thing in the show is consensual and very much wanted

He’s Coming to Me

Who stars in it: Singto Prachaya (Mes) and Ohm Pawat (Thun) aka just two adorable boys

Why I recommend: This show definitely has one of the more unique plots among BLs. I won’t spoil it, and as with all of these I recommend going in without looking up plots because like I know for me movie trailers etc just tell me everything and there doesn’t seem to be a point in watching the movie if I know so much beforehand. The main characters are cute together, there are funny moments and moments that make you cry. And it’s a happy ending, which we love to see :)

Warnings: There is a major character death, no blood though, and you will understand in context that it isn’t as bad as it seems right now lol Nothing that isn’t consensual, which is a miracle in these shows. Overall wholesome content. There is like a weird storyline with one of the character’s moms which was Different to say the least dfjhdflhgkjf but it didn’t ruin the show for me or anything

Where to watch: newasiantv seems to be my go-to lmao

3 Will Be Free

Who stars in it: Joss Way-Ar (Neo), Mild Lapassalan (Miw), and Tay Tawan (Shin). If you watch Dark Blue Kiss or any of those before this, you will recognize Tay and Mild as Pete and Sandee (just friends in those shows). Joss is just such a funny, sweet guy and so is Tay Lowkey biased for them and I honestly often favor TayJoss’ chemistry over TayNew, which I think is controversial lmfaoo but it has to be said lol and obviously Mild is a badass actress and talent so having her here is amazing

Why I recommend: So this is the only BL thus far to feature a polyamorous relationship, which is sort of crazy but I’m so happy it’s been done at least once now. The three have such amazing chemistry and you really grow to care for each of them as individuals as well. They’re just really awesome and I adore them and miss them every day fdjghfdglhkjd There’s also a trans actress!! :D

Warnings: There is quite a bit of gun violence bc one of the character’s father’s is a mob boss. Two side characters are killed, one much further into the show so it hurts even MORE, and one of the other side characters therefore to me doesn’t receive the ending they deserve; it was very messy and I think they deserved better. A woman is in an abusive marriage to a man, which sucked and I skipped a lot of it even though it wasn’t necessarily super violent. I just don’t like that stuff ://

Until We Meet Again

Who stars in it: Fluke Natouch (Pharm) and Ohm Thitiwat (Dean), Earth Katsamonnat (Intouch) and Nine Noppakao (Korn). Fluke and Earth invented being friends like……they are so fucking cute and they are both actually queer (have been in public relationships with men) which is always so rare to see and really great :)

Why I recommend: Side couple TeamWin is absolutely iconic. I adore them with my whole body so if for nothing else, watch it for them LMAO But for real InKorn is such a cute couple and PharmDean has a very nice relationship too; they talk about consent and have healthy communication which is so refreshing lmao

Warnings: The show does open with a double suicide by gunshot. I won’t say who, but it is in there. The two main characters have flashbacks/PTSD/nightmares (one worse than the other) which you will understand in context if you watch, but it’s definitely worth the watch

Love By Chance

Who stars in it: Perth Tanapon (Ae) and Saint Suppapong (Pete), Mean Phiravich (Tin) and Plan Rathavit (Can). This is the show that is in the same universe as Tharntype, but the actors who play Techno, Tharn, and Type are different actors in this show than from Tharntype. It’s confusing and messy lol

Warning: I’m putting this before the why I like it because I think it’s necessary for this one. I hesitate to even put LBC on here because there is so much of this show that just makes me uncomfortable. When I first watched this show, the second BL I had ever watched, I had no knowledge of BLs, the actors, or really anything to do with any of this world. So, having grown up with film/tv life where every actor is 27 playing 17, it didn’t occur to me that the actor playing 18 would in fact be 17 instead. Perth was I think 17 or possibly 18 while filming (I don’t know exact dates), which includes sexual scenes that I didn’t even feel comfortable watching BEFORE I knew his age, let alone trying to rewatch the series while knowing about it. I am 20, and was 19 last year when I watched this, so it really skeeves me out to watch those kinds of scenes (BL or otherwise) if actors or actresses aren’t at least 18 or 19. It seems weird because I’m 20 and a queer girl, not like a 50 year old pedophile or something like that, but for my own comfort I tend to skip the more explicit stuff. On my first watch, I skipped the Tharntype, TumTar, and Techno storyline because frankly I didn’t care. Going on to watch Tharntype the Series, I was even happier to have skipped so that I didn’t have to go in with a preconceived idea of the characters from having watched LBC. One of the characters in this version of events is raped or coerced into sex; I don’t even know the details because I just couldn’t be bothered to give it a chance. I firmly believe you can watch this show without watching any of their storylines (and skipping over the more sexual stuff, if you feel you have to), which I know sucks to say bc the actors are all good and I like their other work and them as people, but I just couldn’t do it. It is of course up to you.

Why I recommend: Basically I recommend this just for TinCan lmao and on the chance that you do decide to watch Tharntype, it pays at the end to have a knowledge of the LBC characters because again they are in the same universe and it won’t be as cool if you don’t get it right away like WHAT!!! You know haha so yeah There is going to be a season two dropped sometime this year, focused I believe on TinCan, so I’m literally so fucking excited. Dreams are coming true

There was a reason I felt as though I was on the verge of alcoholism. Oddly enough, it wasn’t the absurdly large amount of Spandex-clad people in the Tower every day. I sucked in a deep sigh, lips curling over my teeth with my harsh intake of breath. My hand shook so hard, the glass tumbler full of whiskey slipped and shattered all over the floor. I stood and moved to clean it up, but found myself suddenly frozen. My head was throbbing and my heart was racing. Or maybe it was dragging. It was hard to tell at this point.

No, it was that I was actually crumbling from the inside out. As my training progressed, so did my introduction and understanding of the purpose of the Avengers Initiative. All this talk about doing good, making the world a safer place…

Let’s just say it didn’t exactly allow me to ignore my past like existing in the shadows had.

Panic attacks haunted me frequently as more and more memories I had repressed came back to haunt me.

I was six years old and a man was pulling my sister’s hair and punching me in the stomach. I choked back my sobs but Nadia screamed and screamed. The dark dingy walls were solid concrete and several feet thick, and below ground… No one ever heard us.

I choked on the blood welling up in the back of my throat and coughed it out when it became too much. I was forced to breathe out of my nose which resulted in gags as the stench of feces, urine and unwashed body hit the back of my throat.

Hours later, I was being dunked into a tub of freezing water and scrubbed down with the roughest of washing stones I’d ever felt. I knew Nadia was being treated similarly because I could feel her pain as well as my own, as she could mine. It created quite a painful feedback loop.

Finally, after hours of this same cycle, we were plunged into total darkness and swiftly fell asleep, naked, freezing bodies huddled together.

Then there’s what came after. Our parents, executors of our torture, were murdered as our home was invaded. The men wielding the guns said they were part of an organization they said wanted to take us in and bring us home. Become a family and give us purpose. Neither Nadia nor I hesitated. We were just two pre-teens desperate to escape our lives in a dungeon and to take action against people like those that had kept us locked up.

What we didn’t know is that things could, and would get a whole lot worse. Not for us, but for the world we would be unleashed upon.

Thoughts swirling in a panic, I burst out onto the balcony of the communal floor I was on. The wind ripped through my hair, blowing so hard antenna flew off the top of the Tower, causing F.R.I.D.A.Y. to sound the alarm.

Muffled shrieks and yells sounded behind me.

Suddenly, the glass doors behind me flew open and a hand clamped down on my shoulder. Cold, icy fear ran through my veins as I saw the shiny metal hand turning me around to face him. Bucky.

“I’m fine,” I bit out, quickly averting my gaze, “just give me a few minutes. It’s all under control.” I had no sooner gotten the last word out than a solar panel came flying down off the top of the building adjacent to Avengers Tower.

Heat roiled around me, the skies darkening, clouds threatening a massive downpour.

Deep breaths, Kaida, deep breaths.

Unsurprisingly, breathing wasn’t helping this time.

“Hey, kid, listen to me. Tell me five things you can see right now,” Bucky commanded, his tone leaving little room for argument.

“Uh, I c-can see clouds, and uh, you and me, and those pigeons. And that damn spandex clad idiot clinging to the side of the building over there,” I couldn’t keep from maniacally cackling as I looked over and saw Peter clinging to the side of the Tower, looking for the world like he was clutching for dear life.

“Okay, good. Now, what about four things you can feel.”

“The wind, your hand—which is cold, by the way—the railing and my clothes.”

“Okay, good. I don’t think we need to go any further with that, it seems you got that under control pretty quickly. I was taught that by my therapist after coming back from Wakanda. Hydra really did some shit to fuck me up. It’s still a struggle all these years later.”

I just nodded, extremely uncomfortable with the direction the conversation had turned. I didn’t need therapy, I wasn’t the victim here. Not anymore, no, I created them.

I looked up at Bucky finally, eyes flashing and hardening, looking all for the world like ice chips. I would know. I practiced in the mirror. He caught my gaze and flinched back, hand dropping off my shoulder.

“D-do we know each other? I know those eyes…” he shook his head, “never mind, I have to be seeing things. There’s no way. Anyways, uh be safe Kaida,” Bucky blurted as he stumbled away and left me to brood on the patio for just a little while longer.

Later, as I sipped at a bottle of Moscato, having forgone a glass entirely, there was a knock at my door. Tony, of course, let himself right in and collapsed on the couch next to me.

“So,” he said without preamble, “What the fuck was that today? Are you trying to take down my building? And how on God’s green earth did you scare Barnes shitless? Maybe I should take a page out of your book, kid.”

“I’m not in the mood Tony. Could yo-.”

“Yeah, well I wasn’t in the mood to get berated by Cap and his long term booty call today, but that happened. So you’re going to get over it and answer my questions. Now.” His commanding air suited him well. I hadn’t really seen any side of Tony besides the petulant, pseudo-alcoholic brainiac that was as fickle and narcissistic as they come.

As if the day couldn’t get any worse, my body decided that it rather liked this new, more mature Tony. Sometimes I was convinced one of my superhuman features was the ability to be turned on by almost anything at the drop of a hat.

Clearing his throat, Tony stole my bottle away from me and stoppered it before shifting to face me head-on. “So, answer away, Stormy. And try not to mince words.”

“It was nothing Tony, just a panic attack. You’re not unfamiliar with the concept, or so I’m told. I think it’s being in a new place with actual pressure to perform. Now could you get off my back and let me go back to drinking myself to an early grave, please and thank you.”

Tony didn’t move. He opened his mouth to speak again, but as he did, the building rocked with an explosion that was quickly followed by a roar that shook the building just as hard.

Not a moment later, F.R.I.D.A.Y’s voice crackled over the intercom, alerting everyone in the tower of a Code Green.

“You stay here,” Tony commanded as his nanotech suit quickly spread over his form.

“Nice try, gramps, where you go I’m following.”

Tony tipped back his head and groaned. “At least suit up first. And then meet us down there. We won’t be waiting on you kid.”

He was no sooner flying away and out of sight than the impenetrable glass leading to your own personal balcony was shattered, two masked figures rappelling inside. Immediately, I assumed my battle stance, but it didn’t matter. Two gunshots sounded over my shoulders and red blossomed from the intruders' foreheads, one after the other.

I risked a glance over my shoulder and saw that it was Bucky, again coming to my rescue. I hated it.

Slowly, we approached the bodies, searching their person for any identifying marks or clues.

Bucky pulled a piece of paper from deep in a tactical pocket on the bigger of the two men. He unfurled it, his eyes going wide and glassy, tremors running down his form. He started panting and then screaming endlessly for Steve.

“Buck, Buck where are you?” Steve was calling as he sprinted down the hall to your location. Steve immediately wrapped the soldier in his arms and guided him out of the room. As if in a trance, Bucky dropped the paper and it floated to the ground, writing side up.

There, in deep, gouging scratches was the message I’d been dreading my entire life.

2019 Week 2 Wrap Up

Wow folks, another interesting week of matchups and I feel like I’m in the upside down. Literally, the standings are almost completely upside down from where we ended things last year! We’re going to go team by team this week, doing a little post-mortem on the first two weeks of the season. I have a feeling there are going to be some big changes to rosters coming soon for some folks that aren’t happy with the squad they started with. I expect to be approving some trades here very soon! Let’s get into it.

Cry Me More Rivers: I maintain that Mandy’s starting roster is good. Who could have seen a dud performance of the “playoff hopeful” Chargers against the Lions coming? It’s not her fault Jimmy G might actually be a quarterback and she started the nearly 40-year old Rivers instead. Even with a goose egg from Njoku, she almost came back Monday night, making a terribly boring game terrifying. I was refreshing my stat tracker after every LeVeon run, and she would have gotten me if he hadn’t fumbled on the 3 after a great screen play. I think things are going to work out for Mandy, but until then she’s in last place. 

Not Theilen So Good: Attention Jamie’s running backs - you need to play every week. CMC and Josh Jacobs were the highlight of her team in Week 1, and while they didn’t get her the win the first time around, they ensured they wouldn’t be getting it this time around. I think some of you are learning about how difficult it is to be in a 12-team league. Like who is Mike Davis? He rushed for a yard. Jamie didn’t even come close to Dirt this week. She has her two weird QBs (BAKER AND JAMEIS) to thank for that. Send her trades, people. She needs the help. 

Karma’s a Miss: It looked like the trade Emily made with Alex before Week 1 even ended was going to make the difference here. Lo and behold, it wasn’t enough to get over the hump. Surely we all remember the week 1 57 point meltdown, but Em came back to break 130 this week. The double dip strategy of Matty Ice and Julio Jones paid off for a combined 46 points. Did you know that they used to call Julio “Waffle House” in college? Why? Because he’s open 24/7. Unfortunately for Emily, G closed it down with some great subs. I think Emily will get her first win this week, but I hope the Fantasy Football Gods somehow end this in a tie. 

Where’d You Gooooooaat?: Last week, we lauded over Terri’s decisive win and solid roster. But we can thank an awful Thursday Night game for the disappearing act performed by some of Terri’s main guys. Cam has something wrong with his foot and with his mind, resulting in a pathetic non-attempt on that final 4th down play. He’s stepping away from the team this week for personal reasons, leaving Terri to start Cam’s mini-me, Kyler “I can’t throw over my offensive line” Murray. Things didn’t get better for Terri when Kamara didn’t show up either for the Saints in a game where you’d want your rushing attack to be the main feature. Let’s see if there’s a bounce back game in her future. 

MaHopeless to MaHopeful: We were all worried about Dirt last week. An uncharacteristic implosion by a team that on paper, is solid, yet lacks depth. Those things were still true through Week 2, but he just happened to find a dance partner with two left feet that made his win an easy one. Still, questions of depth linger when you are carrying one inactive player and one retired TE that thinks he can cure CTE. Those spots could be used to players that aren’t 3.10 points from Duke Johnson. If your RB got ran out of Cleveland before they were good, that’s not a good sign. Dan finally made use of some of the dead weight he was carrying at QB by trading the vampire Tom Brady to Scott for Calvin Ridley, in a trade that I think makes both teams better, and that’s bad for all of us. He’s turning things around, but I think he might stumble this week. 

Brown Eyed Beast: It’s a sad day when I can’t make fun of my mom for losing in fantasy football. But it makes me happy when she beats T. I just looked at her roster for a solid 5 minutes wondering how we let her draft this team. Then I see guys like CJ Anderson on her bench and it makes me feel better. RIght now, Bob is at .500 all time for her fantasy career. 48 wins, 48 losses. Which way will the scale tip this week? 

Alex, Change Your F*)%$# Team Name: You have so many names on your roster that would make for great puns, it’s such a wasted opportunity. This joker had Lamar Jackson put up 28, Jones with 23, and a million and a half points on his bench and he still couldn’t get the win. Alex should have 6 trade offers in his inbox by tomorrow morning with all that WR depth. He’s got an easy win this week against a team ranked higher than him, but we can’t call it an upset. 

G…. ZZZzzZZZzzZZ: Effortless, just like his team name. Emily was losing her mind making trades and learning about fantasy football last week, and G was hanging out in Phoenix and probably didn’t know when kickoff was due to the time zone change from Florida. He DROPPED Matt Ryan, just to have Emily pick him up. He was happy to let her use his rejects, knowing that it wouldn’t work. I feel like this is a common theme when we jumped to 12, but I’ll say it again. DEPTH, people. I’m scratching my head about the drop of Matty Ice, and keeping Case Keenum, but hey, it’s working. I’m probably going to go in and change your team name to “Kerryon My Wayward Son” if you don’t. I have the power to do that. 

A Kittle Too Close for Comfort: I am without a doubt the worst team at 2-0. I might be the worst team in the league. If we go by points, I am 10 points behind last place. Strength of schedule, folks. If this were college, I wouldn’t even be ranked in the AP poll. I hated my team as soon as the draft was over, but it’s gotten me into a good spot. Weird, but good. Mandy almost had me this week, which makes me sad to say. I am going to say this: I’m open for business folks, let’s talk trades. I’m all ears. 

Cuz I Can’t Think of a Good Pun: Jojo continues to shock the world. She decided to go with the unheard of two-TE strategy this week and boy did it pay off in a big way. Both Kelce and Andrews broke 20 points, with John Ross trailing behind by a touch. Beating a team that I maintain as the deepest in the leauge, Jojo is proving herself against strong competition early on. The exact opposite of what I’ve been doing so far. Now we’re matched up together and I’m shaking in my boots. 

Right Moves Clyde: The auditors have arrived, folks. I’ve been waiting for this moment for years. I think we’re going to get an undefeated Scott season and I’m so happy. This man has been working off a dial-up modem and trying to draft players from 1999 since the inception of this league, and he finally hit refresh on his football knowledge and drafted a juggernaut of a squad. He could afford to trade Calvin Ridley, and his team won’t skip a beat. I don’t even think they’ve hit their stride yet. We should all be so honored to lose to Scooter. 

I like the way the schedule looks this week. We’re guaranteed to have a team that stays undefeated AND a team that stays winless. Sorry this came out late, I’m employed again and got ambitious with breaking down every team. Also, can everyone stop complaining to me about the waiver wire? It’s been this way since the beginning, people. Deal with it. See y’all in Week 3, I hope everyone loses :)

Six years after the release of Marvel vs Capcom 3, which recently was ported to this generation of consoles, it is finally time for Capcom to reveal its new opus of this cross-franchise fighting game, with the rather very different Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. With the aim of appealing to a bigger audience, did Capcom manage to do so without pushing away fans of the series?

Who ever had the idea to unite the Marvel universe with the world of Capcom could give birth to such an unexpected and successful crossover? A series that kicked off back in 1996 with over 4 different editions over the years, this new opus is banking heavily on making some sort of sense of how these two universe collides. Marvel vs Capcom Infinite tells the story of an interplanetary chaos set by Ultron Sigma, born from a cross between Ultron (Marvel’s iconic robot evil) and Sigma (the main antagonist of Mega Man X). Thanks to the two Infinity Stones which he has in his possession (another key Marvel reference), which are linked to Space and Reality, he managed to merge these two worlds together. Like any big villain wishing to control the galaxy (and all dimensions), Ultron Sigma wants to shape it to its effigy, seeing himself and peers as a supreme god of living beings. In any case, a bunch of heroes from both Marvel and Capcom will have to put their egos aside, in order to recover the six Infinity Stones, to accomplish their mission and defeat this ultimate evil.

This previous paragraph is basically the story of the “Story Mode” found in the game, something Capcom omitted in the previously launched Street Fighter V, which should be something amazing if it wasn’t for this script that is all over the place, barely piecing things together, confusing you along the way like some sort of 12 season running soap opera where the mother is now the adopted daughter of the father of the main actor’s wife. I’m not going to bash it much, and I did particularly enjoyed the frantic pace of the story but after actually enjoying the ones in Tekken 7 and Injustice 2 (both reviewed earlied this year), and with the narrative direction of Marvel, this game would’ve been better at telling a tale of mighty heroes saving the world. The relatively dynamic stage set for these character is reinforced by the humor of certain ones like the devilish Dante from Devil May Cry, Frank West from Dead Rising, or everyone’s favorite angry and facetious Rocket Raccoon from Guardians of the Galaxy. We simply regret that not everyone was entitled to the same preferential treatment, and some character are either fillers or just really in bad roles.

I would say the main issue here with maybe not enjoying the story mode other than the script is two simple things: graphical quality and loading time. While the latter doesn’t need much explaining, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite has a really long loading time between the story mode cutscenes and the actual fights, which kills the flow and annoys the impatient players. The second point is the character design of almost the entire roster. I get that blending Marvel and Capcom character styles is a feat of its own considering the different artistic origins of each media house, but there’s not enough compromise on each end, which gives us some very weird versions of our heroes. If Chun-Li got “fixed” successfully after the feedback of the community, Ryu looks rather cubic during the cinematic, and Dante almost looks nothing like the Demon hunter we know. To finish on the graphical part of the game, the game is still a feast for the eyes in battle, with volley of visuals mashing through the screen, especially supers that are so crazy that it could give instant epilepsia attacks.

Before attacking into the heart of the title which is the gameplay, Capcom seemed to have learned the lesson in terms of content at launch. When playing offline, you’ll have no less than six modes ranging from Story, Arcade, Mission (which are sets of challenges to learn each character’s combos), the inevitable Training, and finally Versus with friend or CPU mode. The Collection is added as a bonus, and includes information about each heroes, the music of the game, and cinematics to replay. For those of you brave enough to play online (or those with decent connections),  you can then access to Ranked match, Casual Match, and the Beginners League (for those under the level 14), Lobbies to accommodate up to eight players, Rankings to see the world’s leaderboards, and finally a replay feature to rewatch all of your previous matches.

Now that we tackled everything, how’s Marvel vs Capcom Infinite when it comes to gameplay, and has it been really turned into a casual mess to attract newcomers? Thankfully no, and if the game made drastic changes that may be detrimental to the series, the overall package is still decent. First of all is the switch from a 3v3 to a 2v2 combat, something that has only been done in the Tatsunoko vs Capcom series (my personal favorite of these crossover franchises). While this choice has been made to enhance readability so that the action is more clear than it was before, I now understand this with the new generation graphic engine, as a three player mashup would’ve become a gigantic sore for the eyes. This also makes it easier for Capcom to reconquer the pros of the Marvel vs Capcom fight, and hopefully have enough leverage to add the game in its annual Capcom Pro Tour.

In addition, the gameplay, specifically the combos, have been made much easier to input. Unlike the technical tenors of the genre (Street Fighter, Guilty Gear, Tekken), big attacks that used to require a severe set of input can be done by pressing for example LT + RT, or a quarter circle followed by the combination of low and high punch. This simplification thus has the consequence of making the whole more accessible to ordinary players, and thus gives this immediate pleasure of play which does not require to get your thumb sores to see these amazing super moves. On the one hand, and although it can be played in the high ranks of the fighting game community, the franchise is not specially known for its technicality. Moreover, the combos, hyper and super automated jumps can be deactivated, relying on you to customize the experience to your liking, so you can do the combos like the good ol’ days.

Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite shares another common trait with Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: the presence of the second character, which can be used if the main one is KOed, and more interesting acts as a helper to establish a chain of combos. Exploited as it should, in other words by having the right timing, the Active Switch can be turned into an ability to break the movements of your enemy, even the most impressive ones. However, you will need to make sure you have two bars of Super in stock, otherwise it will not work. A good other part of this dynamic is that fighters that are “out of the ring” will recover a certain amount of health with time, which can call for some fun last minute switch of tactics.

You’d think that it’s enough to change the recipe, but there’s is one parameter that still allows to change things around which are key to the whole direction of the game: the Infinity Stones. Like in the Marvel universe, there are six of them, which you will have to pick one at the beginning of each match, according to your affinities, your pair of characters picked, and obviously your opponent. Whether it is the Stone of Reality, Time, Power, Soul, Mind or Space, these invaluable jewels with “infinite” powers can shape and alter the game. These will obviously activate numerous unique abilities depending on the stone, whether it is an Infinity Surge (LB) or an Infinity Storm (LB+RB). I’m not going to explain the whole are not going to make the inventory at the risk of falling asleep, but it is necessary to give you some examples. Let’s say you decided on picking the “Mind” Stone: the Infinity Surge allows you to lock your opponent in a suspended bubble that stun him for a short moment, provided that you are close to him since. But when you switch to the “Infinity Storm” state (which is activated once you hit 50% of your Infinity bar), your Super gauges fill up at crazy speed, leaving you to freely go mental and abuse Super moves.

Marvel vs Capcom Infinite was reviewed using an Xbox One downloadable code of the game provided by Capcom. The game is also available on PlayStation 4 and PC in online and retail store releases. We don’t discuss review scores with publishers or developers prior to the review being published.

With this new episode, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite retains its core elements while drastically modifying certain gameplay features in order to seduce as many newcomers as possible. Where ‘Last Chance U’ stars from all 3 seasons are in 2018

Here’s where the show’s biggest names will be this fall.

JUCO football doc series Last Chance U is now back with its third season on Netflix. It’s excellent again.

In light of that, it's time to catch up on where the show's alumni are for the 2018 season. These aren't all the players who went through East Mississippi Community College during its two seasons or Independence CC during Season 3, but they are the ones the show's featured most prominently.

Season 1 at EMCC

EMCC’s leadership got a major shake-up at the end of 2016. Tempestuous head coach Buddy Stephens is still at EMCC for 2018, but OC Marcus Wood is off the coaching staff, DC Ed Holly left to become the head coach at Westminster Christian School in Florida, and QB coach Clint Trickett left for the tight ends job at FAU.

Perhaps more importantly, Brittany Wagner, the players’ (and viewers’) favorite grown-up on campus, left to start an athletic counseling business and join the staff of a Michigan high school.

QB John Franklin III, formerly of Florida State, was long hyped as Auburn's next star JUCO QB. At Auburn, he switched to WR, then moved to Lane Kiffin’s “Last Strike U” at FAU. He’s now an undrafted DB with the Chicago Bears.

DL Ronald Ollie, Season 1’s comic relief and most beloved player among viewers, transferred to FCS Nicholls State. He recorded 41 tackles and this Piesman-worthy TD, then hoped to transfer up to FBS, but will keep playing at Nicholls for 2018.

DB C.J. Reavis became one of Marshall’s leading tacklers for two years, then signed a UDFA deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Before EMCC, he was expected to start for Virginia Tech until a murky dismissal.

RB Isaiah Wright, who took over for Law as the team's top RB in 2016, signed with Division II West Georgia after a brutal year, but he left that school before the 2017 season. In September 2017, he was charged in connection with a murder in Tennessee and jailed. In August 2018, prosecutors dropped a homicide charge against him, as Wright pleaded guilty to an aggravated robbery facilitation charge. Wright left jail and received a five-year supervised probation sentence.

QB De'Andre Johnson was booted by FSU after video showed he'd punched a woman at a bar. At EMCC, the show depicts Division I coaches being cautious about showing interest in him. He played in only a handful of games for Kiffin’s FAU in 2017, due to blood clots, but is competing for the Owls’ 2018 starting job.

DL Chauncey Rivers, kicked out by Georgia over weed, can now suit up for Mississippi State after being ruled ineligible in 2017. He’ll be part of a loaded rotation at the edge and is hopefully still making rap songs about how much he loves his mom.

LB Dakota Allen lost his spot at Texas Tech because of a burglary charge but returned after leading EMCC in tackles and appearing to be a model citizen on the show. He’s arguably Texas Tech’s best player heading into 2018.

The show’s third year depicts the 2017 season at Indy CC in Kansas. Head coach Jason Brown is still at Independence in 2018 after leading a turnaround to 9-2 and a bowl win in 2017.
