'Down with the Alien Sickness' - Rick Sanchez x Female Reader
I deleted my account last year and I remember how much people loved this fanfic so, I'm posting it again <3
Basically, I'm really sick. I can't talk or anything. So, I decided I'd write my first ever R&M fanfic! Where OC is sick but it gets worse in a way that you'd not expect (hopefully!) I hope I write Rick well. He can be slightly out of character but... He's nice sometimes in it which is MEGA OOC for Rick. I also hope it's pretty good anyway, I haven't written in about a year so, holy shit. Hope you enjoy!
Pairing: Rick Sanchez x Female Reader
Any warnings: Sickness, OC gets ill with something, panicking, Rick bring Rick, it's also fluffy and cute at the end - Word count: 2,957
It had been a few days since I'd come home from college sick. Rick forced me to have the past 4 days off and despite my protest, the true look of concern on his face made me follow his advice. He even 'advised' (forced) me to stay at the Smith household, sharing his surprisingly comfortable but small camper-bed with him. Luckily, Beth and Jerry didn't seem to mind, due to Rick doing a 'good deed' in Beth's eyes. In my eyes, it was Rick finding any excuse to have me near him and by the looks Summer gives Rick, the smirk and raising of an eyebrow, she knew it too. I'll admit it, we have a.. 'thing', we just don't really talk about what the 'thing' is - And I find him more than good looking, but I just don't want Beth to find out, y'know, age gaps and all.
Anyway, I'd been sick for a few days, and it was only getting worse. Rick told me it was the common flu, but he had no idea how my stomach had felt, and today was the worst day, by far. I'd spent most of the day lying in his bed, groaning. Quickly, I rose from Rick's camper-bed, suddenly needing to cough something up. Wrapping the thin green duvet around my shoulders, I barged through the door with my shoulder and bolted it to the bathroom.
I slammed the door, threw the duvet to the floor and knelt over the toilet. Shuddering and retching, I heard a gentle knock on the wood of the door, "Uh, Y/N? You- You okay? You don't sound uhhh- okay." Morty's voice whined it's way through the wood. I gagged, and my eyes widened as I brought up the weirdest looking neon green goop that I'd ever seen. I immediately felt relief, gasping for breath, "Yeah.. Uh.. I'm okay now. I think. You can come in, Morty." I shivered as Morty slowly opened the door.
He emitted a slightly unsettled whine as we locked eyes, "I- Ho- Holy shit, Y/N. What the fuck ha- What happened to you? Did- Did Rick do something? Ar-Are you pregnant or?" Morty quickly grabbed the soft duvet and wrapped it around my shoulders tightly, helping me up to sit on the side of the bath. I pulled a disgusted face and scoffed, "I'm sick. I'm not pregnant, and no, Rick had nothing to do with this. Or at least, to me, it happened out of nowhere." Raising my hand with a pointing, shaky finger, I took a breath in, "Can- can you look at whatever the fuck I just hacked up into the toilet? It didn't look real."
Morty cautiously took a step toward the toilet bowl and leaned over a little to look, then immediately recoiled, eyes wide and hand over mouth, "OH! What the FUCK?! Oh, oh! What is- what is that- that green stuff?!" He leaned forward again for another look but looked away just as quickly. I began to panic, shifting as I shouted, "What?! You- What do you mean?! You should know! You sho- Should know, right?" Morty reluctantly took a photo, the first time was with flash, he cursed himself, then took another, flushed the toilet, and came back to me, a firm hand cupping my shoulder, "C'mon, Y/N, let me take you down to Rick."
We got to the garage door and that's when Morty patted my back and gave me his phone, "Here, don't let Rick look through my shit, okay? I've got homework to do." He waltzed his way back into the lounge. I sheepishly knocked on the door, hearing an annoyed grunt in response, "What now, Jerry? There's no serum that'll give you a *burp* a job." I smiled, shook my head, and took that as my cue to open the door, "It's actually me." I croaked, entering the cool garage, wrapping myself tighter in the duvet. Rick took a quick glance at me, "What's up, sweetie? You want some mo-eurgh cough sy- syrup?" His voice had immediately changed, he actually sounded nice, "I um.. Actually.. Morty said.." I trailed off, trying to keep my balance as a shocking pain wreaked havoc in my stomach, "Oh fuck, oh shit!" I pressed my hands into my stomach, falling to my knees with a painful thud, "Morty said you've gotta- gotta help me. He said- He said something's really wrong!" I strained as Rick turned so fast that he was right next to me as I hit the floor.
My breathing turned heavy as my eyesight went slightly fuzzy and green. Rick grabbed my waist, lifted me up like a baby, and held my face up to give it a good look, "Jesus Christ, what the fuck have you been doing, Y/N?! It was just a cold!" He dragged my almost completely limp body to his desk, pushed all of the stuff to the side and sat me on it, leaning me against the cold wall to which I jolted up and let out a horrific screech, "I don't like that! Too co- cold!" I fell forward, my head landing on his right shoulder, "OKAY! Okay, we won't uh- *burp* Won't do that then!" He lay me down on my side as he ran to get the duvet off of the floor and shut the door to the garage. I cried out in pain, "Rick! What's going on? I can't see! It- It- It's so painful!" I writhed on the desk, kicking my feet out violently.
"You can't see?! Oh my G-*burp*-od!" His voice was choked and high. I could hear Rick's shoes clicking around quickly as he came over, covered me in the blanket, and began searching for things around the garage. I rocked myself side to side, trying to settle myself until I felt Rick's arms wrap around my body, sitting me up and slipping me down onto his work stool. I felt the excruciating pain in my stomach as he set me down and emitted a loud scream, "Oh Jesus! Okay, Y/N! I'm gonna have to examine you, okay? You're gonna have to put up with this for a little longer!" Rick shouted over my raw yelling. I gritted my teeth as hard as I could, "Okay." I growled.
The garage door opened quickly, slamming against the wall, "What is going on in here?!" Beth shrieked. Rick didn't even turn around, "Beth. Honey. Not a good time." He spoke through a clamped jaw, I assume Beth looked at me because I heard her gasp "Oooookay.. Uh... Dinner will be on the table very uh.. Very soon." She left as quickly as she came. I began to lean into Rick's chest, losing consciousness, "No. Y/N. Stay with me. C'mon, sweetheart!" He slapped my face a few times and I felt him turn rigid as a deep aggressive growl erupted from my stomach and I began coughing that same sticky substance up onto his shirt, "Ohh shit." He shined a white light into each of my eyes, causing me to raspily howl, "Okay. Your eyes are all glazed over, red and bloodshot." I felt his fingers on my lips and he pried my mouth open, shining the light inside, "Eugh. Glowing sticky green mucus in the mouth. Mouth is also deep red in colour."
Suddenly a cold glass tube was scooped into my mouth and out again. I gave a guttural groan, "COLD!" Without thinking, my hand grabbed Rick's, tightly, he shouted out in pain, "Y/N. Let go.". I felt an inhumane scream ripple through my body as Rick grabbed me by the throat, "Let me go or I'll kill you." His breath was puffing against my face as he spoke and I felt my hand weaken, despite me not telling it to, "Thank you." He spat. His hands then returned to me, shining his light everywhere, "Your skin is grey. Each orifice is very dark and wet." His voice was calm as he poked and prodded, I, however, was becoming more frustrated, "Rick! I don't wan- wanna put up- up with this any- more!!" I sobbed, trying to tear myself away from him, unsuccessfully, "C'mon, shut up. Almost done."
I heard a lot of beeping and switches being flicked and buttons being pressed for a few minutes as Rick held one hand gently against my neck, just in case I tried to hurt him again. A few seconds later, Rick gave a quiet gasp, and made an almost guilty sounding 'damn it'. I then suddenly felt a very painful intrusion in my left thigh, "RICK!" I screamed, "It's for your own good, Y/N." He stated as I felt a thick string of aches flow through me.
Instantaneously, I started coughing and shaking, "Please let this work." I heard Rick mutter, as his arms wrapped around my body in a warm, tight embrace. My eyes moistened up and my sight slowly came back as I cried loudly, "Shh, c'mon now, it's okay, you're okay.." Rick whispered into my ear continuously until the shaking and coughing stopped and I was reduced to a heavy breathing, weak mess. Everything felt better. Well, my throat still killed and my nose was runny, but, everything else was completely gone.
I swallowed deeply, "Wh- What just happened?" I whispered. Rick didn't let go of me for a few minutes, "Rick?" I croaked, "I injected you with a serum that reduces what I think you had back down into the common cold. Luckily, it worked and I was right." His breathing was slow and heavy. With a sigh of relief and without a word, Rick took my right hand and hooked his arm around my waist. He helped me up and we left the garage.
"Hey Rick, Y/N! Wanna come an- an- an- and eat?" Morty called out from the dinner table that he and his family were sat at, "Uhh, we're good right now, Morty. Y/N needs time to recover from her si*burp*ckness." We continued walking to Rick's room. He carefully set me down on the bed, wrapping me in his duvet, "Wait here." He brought out his portal gun and left for another dimension, "Hmph. Okay then." I clicked my tongue against the roof of my mouth impatiently as I waited for him. After a few minutes, my phone dinged. It was a text from Rick: 'Hope ur OK, sweetie. Won't be long. R.'
I was leaned against the wall, peering around the most interesting room I would ever be in. After about 10 minutes, a portal opened up and Rick stepped out, with a small little blue person in a sort of delivery uniform, "This the place, Sir?" The person squeaked, "Uhp, Yeah. Ri*burp*ght over there." Rick pointed to the end of the camper-bed and a slightly odd, fleshy looking flat screen TV materialised in front of my eyes, "What the- the fuck? Rick?" I sat up, looking him right in the face, "Hey. Hey. Don't, don't say that around a Reeptipian, Y/N. They're one of the few alien races that actually understand those words." His voice was monotonous as he lifted his portal gun and it beeped twice, "Thank you, Sir." The little blue person hopped back on through the portal, but not before two giant boxes materialised on the floor, full of colourful packets of things that looked edible.
"I'm gonna say it again, what the fuck, Rick?" I tilted my head with raised brows, "Well excuuuuuse me for tryna surprise you and make you feel better!" He put his arms in the air, "What do you mean?" I asked, "Reeptipians have a thing for cinema and TV. They create the best TVs I've ever used, with interdimensional cable, and the best snack fooooods!" Rick opened the boxes and threw a load of stuff onto the bed before bouncing himself down onto it with me. I laughed at his enthusiasm and leaned my head against his chest as he pulled me close and turned on the TV.
"Oh, before I forget." Rick sat up, pulling a decently sized needle out of his coat, before taking off his mucus covered shirt and lab coat, "I- I- Please don't tell me that's for me!" I scrambled back against the wall at the top of the bed, "Nope. For me." Rick jabbed himself in the gut with it, letting out a rumbling growl, his legs kicking out slightly, "I seriously need to figure out how to vaccinate without injections." He pulled it out and threw it to the floor with a sigh. I watched him sit back, unsure of what happened, "Um, what was that?" I relaxed against the wall once again, "Didn't you hear me? It was a vaccination. Against that nasty shit that was all up in your system, sweetheart. Oh uh.. abo*burp*ut that." Rick's eyes were shifting from side to side.
My eyes narrowed, "What. What about it? That was the worst pain I've experienced so far." My voice was highly suspicious sounding as I stared at Rick, "Y'know that healthy alien cereal you had a few days back that uh.. You really liked and then had more of?" His lips pressed into a thin line and his demeanor was nervous, which is rare, "Yes. I do know it. The one you got me that tastes like strawberry. What about it? Spit it out." Rick scratched his head, "Funny thing. It's filled with alien bacteria that are beneficial for the aliens on the planet that I got it from. But.. It uh.. If a human ingests it.. It.. uh.. Tries to use your body as a host and kills and consumes you before moving on." He braced himself for me to kick off but, nothing came, and he opened his eyes, looking at me with trepidation. I blew a gust of air from my mouth that I was holding in, "Smartest man in the universe, huh? You get your girlfriend infected with some weird fucking alien bacteria?" I crossed my arms and then froze. Rick's eyes widened, "My what?" I began stuttering, "You're uh.. You- You're.." As I tried to search for a different word Rick interrupted me, "My girlfriend!" He laughed deeply, grabbing me by the waist and pulling me onto him, pressing his lips to mine.
I pulled away with a cough and Rick held my face in his big hands, tickling my jaw and making me giggle, "I'm sorry for not checking that cereal. It almost killed you." His eyebrows furrowed. I closed my eyes and inhaled his smell, I loved the muskiness mixed with a faint whiskey scent. I leaned into him, kissing his bare chest, "But it didn't. It fucking hurt, but it didn't kill me. Plus, aren't there other versions of me around? Do- do you know any?" Rick stiffened under me, "Well, yeah but.. They- they're not you. They're.. Different. In a bad way. I'd rather you not die no ma*burp*tter what, sweetie." He flipped through some crazy looking channels on the giant TV and settled on one, "I've checked over all of these candies by the way. They're safe. They won't try and eat you after you eat them." Rick gave a hoarse chuckle and wrapped his arms around my waist, his nails gently scratching the skin of my back under my shirt.
"Uh, Rick?" My voice came out very weak, "Hm?" He looked down at me, then back up to the TV, stuffing a few pink pieces of candy into his mouth. I hummed, "You uh- you wanna try some?" Rick lifted some of the candy up to my mouth, "Yeah, uh, sure." I smiled, letting him feed me some, "But uh, I have a question." I spoke with my mouth full, "Shoot." Rick shoveled more candy into his mouth, seemingly loving it, "Is this.. Is this thing we have.. More than a.. thing?" I looked toward the TV, not wanting to meet his intelligent eyes. He took a deep breath and I felt myself lift atop his chest.
Rick cleared his throat, "Uhm." I felt his fingertips tap against my skin whilst I began to internally panic, "Never mind. Shouldn't have asked." I quickly spoke but Rick shook his head, "Nononono! I- I- I didn't mean-! Fuck. I just.. You really- you really want that?" His voice wavered as he searched my face. I looked Rick straight in the eye and bit my lip, "Yes. I.. I want that. Do uhm.. Do you?" I lay my right leg over his thighs. Rick blinked a few times before answering, "I- Yeah. I want it too." I grinned, "Then I guess.. We're dating now?" Rick nodded with a smirk and gave my ass a squeeze, "I guess we are."
Rick filled his mouth with a different type of candy, it looked like glowing red rocks. I grabbed a handful and popped some into my mouth, they tasted very sweet, until they grated their way down my sore throat, I winced as the second piece of candy made my throat hot. I looked at the packet and there were flames all over it, "Ah! They're so hot!" I blew quick puffs of air out of my mouth, "It's okay, it only lasts until they're in your stomach." Rick patted my stomach with a smile. Rick's eyes shot toward the screen and he all of a sudden jolted, raising an arm, "Yes! Ball Fondlers, baby! This is the best TV show eveeer! Trust me, Y/N, you'll love this!"
And indeed I did love it. Well, until I fell into a deep sleep.

Hiiiiiiiiii bb,
Maybe you could write about Eddie being absolute shit at beerpong and he loses to his crush and he gets so mad that he pouts all night about it. 🤔😅
🤡 @trashmouth-richie
Ahahahaha fuck you but yes I'll write it.
Warnings: language, drinking, characters are around 21-22 years old
WC: 802

"Hah!" you exclaim as you sink the ping pong ball into the final cup. "We win!" You turn and give Robin a high-five, sticking your tongue out at Steve and Eddie.
"You said you were good at this," Eddie hisses at his teammate, raking his fingers through his curls in frustration.
Steve just shrugs. "I was, back in high school. Guess I'm out of practice." He reaches into the cooler and pulls out two more beers, offering one to Eddie. "To losing," he holds up his can, frowning when Eddie doesn't do the same. "Dude, what crawled up your ass?"
"Nothing," Eddie huffs, taking a swig. His eyes flick over to you, already engrossed in a conversation with some guy he vaguely remembers from Hawkins High. You're laughing and taking small sips of your drink.
"Oh, I see," Steve smirks. "You're upset because you wanted to impress your little girlfriend, huh?"
"Not my girlfriend," Eddie mumbles, glancing at you again when he hears you giggle. God, what was so funny that you were still talking to this loser?
Steve sighs, crossing his arms over his chest. "I don't get it. A few months ago, you were fine with just being her friend. Now you're getting all bent out of shape over a stupid game of pong?"
Before Eddie can respond, he feels an arm sling around his shoulder. "Aw, whassa matter, Romeo?" Robin teases, words slightly slurred. "Sad without your Juliet?"
"Shut up, both of you!" Eddie undoes himself from Robin's grasp. "'M gonna take a leak, and then I'm outta here." He pushes through the crowd of people and stumbles to the bathroom.
Eddie never used to think twice about impressing you; it's not that he didn't care, but you two were just friends. He didn't overthink his jokes or get self-conscious about his hair, because he didn't need to. But that all changed a few months ago: he was sick as a dog, curled up in bed with the worst flu he'd ever had. You'd showed up with some homemade soup and crackers, staying for hours to make sure that he drank enough water and took medicine to keep his fever down. After that, he saw you in a whole new light. He never knew someone could care about him like you do. And it doesn't hurt that you're gorgeous, either.
He leaves the bathroom, hastily wiping his hands on his jeans, and nearly bumps into someone. "Watch it, du--oh, hi," he breathes out, unable to meet your gaze. "Sorry 'bout that."
"Y'okay?" you ask, concern evident by your tone. Eddie practically melts when you grab his hand to pull him back towards you. "What's going on?"
"'M fine." He tries a small smile. "Just tired." That part isn't a complete lie; he's tired of watching opportunities to be with the girl of his dreams pass by.
You give a little laugh. "You can't pull one over on me, Eddie Munson," you say. "Now, tell me what's really on your mind."
"I, uh, really thought I had that beer pong game in the bag." Another half-truth.
"You're upset because of that?" You furrow your brows. "'S not like we bet any money."
Eddie massages the nape of his neck. "I looked like an idiot," he supplies. "Kept tryin' to get the stupid fuckin' ball in the stupid fuckin' cup..."
"You didn't look like an idiot; we were just having fun," you reassure him. "If anything, you look like an idiot now, getting all pouty about it." You pause. "Wait...were you trying to show off for someone?" When he looks away, you clap your hands excitedly. "Who is it? C'mon, I won't tell." You mime zipping your lips and throwing away the key.
"No one." Eddie shakes his head.
"Liar! Look, you're totally blushing. Tell me tell me tell m--"
"It's you, okay!" he blurts out, unable to contain his secret any longer. "I was gonna--ugh, I was gonna say something like, 'you owe the winner a date,' or some cheesy shit like that, like in those dumb romance movies you watch--"
"They are not dumb!" you retort, giving him a playful shove. "But I am gonna steal that line. So, Eddie, you owe the winner a date."
His eyebrows shoot up in surprise. "Really? You wanna go on a date with me?"
"Of course!" you say with a smile. "You think I'd risk the flu for just anyone?"
Eddie beams, pulling the keys to his van from his jacket pocket. "What are we waiting for, then? Wanna grab some burgers at Benny's with me?"
"I'd love to," you return his smile, then bring your lips to his ear to whisper, "maybe after, we can go back to your place and you can show me what you are good at."

3 months later
Ben’s been back in LA for a few days when he receives a text from you. Ever since your text exchange while you were drunk, the two of you resumed on your usual banter, leaving the unfamiliar politeness behind, much to his relief. It feels like the emotional wall you’ve put up between you and him progressively came crawling down with every text exchange. You are scheduled to meet for dinner tonight, and he can’t wait to see you.
He’s surprised you haven’t contacted him as he received the best news he’s ever gotten in his entire career. He’s been nominated for the Volpi Cup, the award for best actor in the Venice Film Festival, for the Bong Joon Ho movie. When he got the news from the film crew, he almost cried tears of joy. He was incredibly proud, but most importantly, he knew you’d have to drop his contract, as you had agreed. He wondered how you felt about his nomination, and why you hadn’t contacted him right away. Had you found someone else? If so, was it serious? His heart jumped in his chest when he saw your name illuminating his screen. He opened your message eagerly.
You: Hi Ben, I know we were supposed to meet today for dinner, but I got the flu and i’ve been stuck home for the last two days. I’m still feverish and I can’t make it out I’m so sorry… :(
So, that was why you hadn’t contacted him. Selfishly, he preferred to know that you were stuck home with the flu than in the arms of another guy. He writes back to you:
Ben: I can come over and bring some soup, herbal tea and flu medicine :)
You: absolutely not Ben, I’d never forgive myself if you got the flu because of me.
He raises his eyebrows as he reads your message. He won’t let you get away with this.
Ben: I’m immune to the flu :) plus I have some verrry important news and I NEED to see you.
You: I cant let you see me this way :( I haven’t showered in two days and I look like shit.
Ben: I don’t care. I’m coming.
You: Fine, you’re the f***** worst.
Ben: see you in an hour :)
Ben can’t stop smiling as he gets in his car to go to the grocery store, he’s so gleeful he could break into a song and start dancing in the street.
* * * * * * * * *
He knocks on your door, familiar with your place as he’s already been here a few times, for movie nights mostly. He’s even slept on your convertible couch after some nights where the two of you drank too much. You open slightly the door and he catches a glimpse of your face.
“Ugh, I can’t believe you came” you sigh as you turn over and leave the door open. He laughs loudly.
“That’s no way to greet me after a six months separation” he protests.
He smiles widely when he notices that you’re wearing a blanket around your shoulders, sweat pants and fuzzy socks. You’re walking awkwardly around your living room, looking exhausted. Your hair his wet so you’ve definitely taken a shower before he arrived. You look pale, your nose is red, you have dark circles under your eyes. You definitely look sick, but still cute, he thinks to himself. He sets the grocery bag on the table while you sit on your couch, staring at nothing.
“So, I took some chicken soup” he announces “some herbal tea, honey for your throat, your favorite ice cream and some ibuprofen”. He looks back at you, you’re wiping your nose with a tissue. You look so precious, he wants to hold you close and kiss you. He resists the urge and sets the items on your living room table, before making a trip to your kitchen to set the ice cream in the freezer.
“Thank you, Ben, that’s so kind of you” you reply weakly when he enters the living room. “I think my temperature’s rising again, I don’t feel too good” you add in a weak voice. He comes to sit next to you on the couch and presses a hand to your forehead. It’s clammy and hot, you’re burning up.
“Yep, feels like you’re having a fever” he states “I’ll get you some ibuprofen” he says, getting back up and heading to your kitchen to get a glass of water. He comes back a few seconds later and you’re lying on your side, your legs pressed to your chest, softly whining.
“It’s okay, I’m here” he says in a smooth voice. He crouches next to you and hands you the pill and the glass of water. You stare at him with glassy eyes.
“I can’t believe you came” you say, repeating the first words you’ve uttered to him when he got here.
“I told you, I have some important news to tell you” he says, smiling.
“But you’re seeing me like this” you whine, gesturing towards yourself. “I look like a monster” you say, closing your eyes.
“That’s not true, you look sick” he protests “You still look pretty and cute, don’t worry”, he adds with a grin. You hide your face in a cushion, not replying.
“Come on, take the pill” he says patiently. You open your eyes again and slowly sit.
“Thank you” you whisper, your hands trembling a bit.
“Do you want to eat something?” he asks, concerned.
You nod to say no “I’m not hungry” you say, wincing.
“When’s the last time you ate?” he asks, raising an eyebrow.
You look away, thinking, scrunching your nose a bit. God you’re cute, he thinks, having to resist the urge to kiss you again.
“I don’t really remember” you reply “The fever’s making the last few days blurry” you add, scrubbing your eyes.
“I’m gonna get you some soup” he says, and he goes to the kitchen to get you a spoon.  He puts the kettle on to make you some tea as well, because he wouldn’t be a true British person of he didn’t.
“It’s still warm” he says, coming back in the living room. You nod as you patiently wait for him to bring you the soup, and sigh when he gives you the warm bowl.
“So, what’s the big news?” you ask.
“It can wait.” Ben answers, rubbing your arm to warm you up, seeing you shivering.
“But you came for that” you protest, drinking your soup.
“I came to see you” he replies, smiling softly.
You nod your head, closing your eyes “This is so good” you say.
“I’m glad you like it” he replies, getting comfortable on the couch. “Do you want to watch something?” he asks, gesturing towards your TV. “A comforting movie, perhaps?”
You look at him, smiling softly “Yeah, I could watch something” you say “I’ve spent the last two days in bed” you add.
“What do you want to watch?” he asks, looking intently at you. Even when you’re sick, you still have the same effect on him. His chest feels a bit tight and he desperately wants to touch you. You think for a few seconds before smiling slowly, your eyes looking heavy. You look so tired and weak, it breaks his heart “Princess Bride” you reply, looking content.
He laughs “Princess Bride it is!” he replies as he turns the TV on. He goes back to the kitchen to fetch you your tea, adding a generous amount of honey to soothe your throat. He comes back in the room and you’re standing next to the sofa.
“Could you unfold the couch?” you ask weakly, looking up at him. “I want to fall asleep in front of the film” you add.
He has the resist the urge to cup your face with both of his hands and kiss you. “Of course” he replies, happy to feel useful to you. He expertly unfolds the sofa, and you climb on it right away, still wrapped in your blanket. He lies down next to you and launches the movie. He feels genuinely content in this moment, thinking that there’s no place where he’d rather be, because he’s with you. He thinks to himself that he simply needs your company to feel whole and happy, and he realizes, for the hundredth time, how serious his feelings are for you. He glances at you and sees that you’re shivering.
“Are you alright?” he asks, concerned.
“I’m so cold” you reply, hugging yourself.
“I’ll get another blanket” he replies, and you reach for his arm before he gets up.
“Can you hold me?” you ask, looking at him. His heart explodes with joy in his chest and he tries to control his facial expression.
“Of course” he replies softly with an even voice, and he’s impressed with himself. He slides closer to you on the sofa and opens his arms, and you snuggle against him, sighing, seeming satisfied.
“You smell so good” you say after a few seconds.
He laughs. Why do you need to be in an altered state to say these things to him? Drunk or feverish? What stops you from saying how you feel? Why do you have to control yourself this much? he thinks bitterly.
“Thank you” he replies, his heart beating fast in his chest.
“Why do you have to be so perfect?” you ask, your eyes closed. You seem like you’re slowly falling asleep.
“What do you mean?” he asks, still half laughing.
“You’re smart, kind, funny, unbearably handsome.” you reply, yawning, before snuggling your face against his chest.
“You’re not so bad yourself” he replies softly, placing a soft kiss on the top of your head.
“I’m not good enough for you” you reply, and your eyes are closed, your expression relaxed.
“What? That’s nonsense” he replies, frowning and aghast.
“Hmmmm...” you reply, your head falling a bit, and he understands that you’ve fallen asleep now. He looks back at the TV, distracted. Is that why you won’t date him? Using the excuse of being his agent? Because you’re insecure? He frowns as he ponders on this, still holding you against him. Your breathing is even and your face relaxed, and he feels happy and privileged to see you this way, unguarded and natural. He falls asleep before the movie ends, sill suffering from jet lag.
* * * * * * * * * *
You open your eyes, waking from the fever dream you were just having. You feel sweaty and cold, coming down from your fever. You look around you and find Ben lying next to you, asleep. You stare at his beautiful face for a few seconds, lit by the glowing screen of the TV. You usually can’t stare at him as much as you want to, so you indulge fully. You look at his eyes, his long lashes, the beauty spot you love so much. His nose, his mouth, his beard. His cheekbones, the soft curve of his lips. You heart aches in your chest, you find him so beautiful it almost makes you want to weep.
You close your eyes and sigh deeply, and decide to get up and take a shower to clean the sweat off yourself. You get up slowly, in order not to wake him up, and head to your bedroom. You set out a clean set of pajamas (the good fancy ones, because Ben’s here after all, and you’ll definitely look better in them than in your old sweat pants) and hop in the shower, happy to feel the warmth of the water on your skin. You close your eyes and try to focus to analyze the situation. It’s hard because you’re still feverish, and you feel groggy.
He’s here, you think to yourself, in awe. He came, only to take care of you. You shake your head as you realize how much he must care about you to have come all the way here. He could be anywhere, with anyone, and yet he decided to come to you. You nod your head as you take in the realization and try to calm your nerves. Once you’re done cleaning yourself, you step out of the shower, fold yourself into a towel and go brush your teeth, wanting to feel clean and fresh. You stare at your own reflection, unimpressed. What does he see in you? You simply don’t understand. He could have any woman, any beautiful actress in the industry, any gorgeous model, why does he waste his time with you? You shake your head, unable to comprehend what he sees in you. You step into your bedroom, put on a clean set of underwear before putting on your Pjs.
You tip toe in the living room again and turn off the TV screen. Ben shuffles in his sleep, sighing, and you lie down next to him. You could go back to your bed, but you can’t resist being so close to him. You’ve missed him so much these last few months, and your feelings for him are so strong. You reach for his hand and grab it softly, wanting to have a physical contact with him. He wakes up at the contact and your heart drops in your chest. He opens lazily his eyes, and they seem completely black in the dark.
“Hey” he whispers, smiling softly. “Feeling better?”
“A bit” you sigh back, your chest feeling horribly tight. You could kiss him, right here, right now. Nothing can stop you, except yourself.
“C’me here” he says, and he opens his arms. You don’t hesitate for a second, turning your back on him and snuggling close to him. He spoons you, holding you close, his arms around you. You close your eyes, thinking you’ve never been this happy before, and quickly fall asleep.
* * * * * * * * * *
You wake up to the smell of pancakes and sigh happily. You stretch on the couch and slowly open your eyes, trying to assess how you feel. You’re still a bit sore and your throat hurts, but you don’t feel feverish anymore. You look around you and Ben’s woken up, probably in the kitchen judging by the sounds coming from it. You quickly get up, panicked, and run to your bathroom. You assess the mess as you stare at yourself in the mirror, and decide to brush your teeth first. You brush your hair, put fresh water on your face and breathe evenly to calm yourself. You’re not thrilled by the way you look, but at least you look a little more human. You tip toe to the kitchen and you hear Ben singing, bringing a bright smile to your face.
You enter and he’s cooking pancakes, and you think to yourself that the man has no mercy for you. First, coming to take care of you while you’re sick, secondly, making you pancakes in the morning. How is he even real? You ask yourself. He spots you and stops singing:
“Morning sunshine, how are you feeling?” he asks, grinning.
“A little better, thank you”, you reply as you take a sit on the counter.
“Ahhh, finally some good news”, he says, grinning. How does he look so good? You ask yourself. The man’s slept in his clothes, hasn’t taken a shower yet and he looks like the most beautiful person in the world. You grind your teeth, annoyed by him.
“Did you sleep well?” you ask, blushing.
“Never better” he winks, and you blush even more.
“So, what about these big news you wanted to tell me?” you ask, raising an eyebrow. He slides a plate with pancakes and a cup of tea towards you, and you grab it eagerly.
“Well, I guess you haven’t heard since you were stuck in here with a fever” he starts, and he looks intently at you. “I’ve been nominated for best actor at the Venice Film Festival” he announces.
You choke on your tea and slide off the counter “Oh my God, Ben!!” you yell, and you jump at his neck to hug him, screaming with joy. He laughs as he catches you, and the two of you stand here for a while, hugging. Your breathing slows a bit and you step back “Congratulations” you say, looking up at his face, and the expression on his face makes you weak in the knees. There is tenderness, and a hunger, a want that makes you quiver.
“Thank you” he replies “I’d never had gotten there without you” he says as he puts a loose strand of hair behind your ear. You blush and turn over to grab your tea, before facing him again.
“I have something to ask you” he says, “a favor”.
“Anything, Ben” you say, smiling.
“By my guest at the film festival” he asks. “Come with me, please.”
You stop smiling and you feel sudden dread.
“Ben, I could neve-”
“I don’t want anyone else but you” he cuts you off “by my side, on this day. Please” he begs, and you get lost in his charcoal eyes, unable to resist him.
“Fine”, you sigh, and he grins widely.
“Thank you” he replies “I’ll send you the details” he winks, quoting back to you one of your favorite expressions. You blush again, feeling self conscious.
“I have to go” he says, “I’ll talk to you soon?” he adds, seeming hopeful.
“All right” you reply, still feeling weak in the knees. He steps closer to you, and he gently cups your face with both hands, before placing a light kiss on your forehead. He releases you and grabs his jacket. “Have a nice day” he says, winking, before leaving the kitchen.
You stare into the void as you hear your front door slamming, unable to process what just happened.

My favourite prompts:
A list of my favourite prompts that I’ve posted in the past, all curated into a huge list just for you guys!
1
Finally, the day has come. The villain is thought to be dead. The hero has won.
Until suddenly the hero learns the villain left them EVERYTHING in their will. Made them the owner and operator of all their illegal business.
Obviously, the hero plans to shut everything down immediately. But they quickly realize just how many people the villain employed… how many family’s they fed…
2
“You kissed me,”
“I did… and?”
“What-!? What do you mean and!?,”
“What more do you want?”
“An explanation would be a good start!”
“…or I could just do it again…”
*other person turns bright red,*
“Or… or that, I suppose,”
3
“What the hell are you doing here!?”
“I think the better question would be what in the hell are you wearing,” the villain replied, amusement clear on their face, like they were struggling to keep from laughing.
“What- it’s-” the hero blushed, remembering what they were wearing, “their pajamas! What are you-!”
“Oh my god…” the villain replied, like they were struggling to come to terms with what they were seeing, “the hero of the city not only own, but wears a onesie,”
“Excuse me!” The hero snapped in defence, “They’re comfortable!”
“They? You have more??”
4
“I gotta say hero,” The villain mused as they casually moved toward the cell bars, “I’ve been called many things in my life: monster, villain, outcast, loser, scoundrel,” they tilted their head, examining the hero before them, “but ‘our last hope?’” *clicks tongue* “that’s a first,”
5
You live in a world where anyone born with superpowers must become a super hero. It doesn’t matter what the power is, or how small it is, it is mandatory. It was deemed that having anyone with superpowers work alongside regular people was “unsafe” and “unfair.” Every year, dozens of superhero’s with powers useless for fighting are killed. You’ve managed to make it this long with nobody finding out you have a superpower. But how much longer can you hide in plain sight?
6
The city’s villain mysteriously disappears and hasnt been seen in a week. The people are celebrating, but the hero is worried. What if the villain is planning something big? Determined to stop whatever evil plan is brewing, the hero tracks the villain down, but they dont find what they expected. Instead of evil plotting, the villain:
-Has been taking care of a sick pet -Come down with the flu -Been helping arrange a friends wedding -Found out they were pregnant -Is getting married themselves -Mourning the death of a loved one -Has adopted a young pet and been occupied taking care of them -Has been helping one of their lackeys who’s in a desperate situation -Has been feeding the homeless and offering blankets
7
You’re the most wanted villain by all highest ranking authorities, but all the heros “just can’t seem to catch you” (they always let you get away) because all your crimes are things like stealing expensive medication and then donating it to hospitals, robbing toy stores and donating to orphanages, robbing banks and giving to charity, robbing grocery stores and feeding the homeless, ect
8
A hero/villain with the power to materialize their own tattoos. Got a wrench tattoo? Now you’ve got a wrench. Got a tattoo of wings? A bomb? A get away car? Well…
Dragon tattoos have always been popular, havent they?
9
Write about a genius inventor villain who, while watching the news, learns about a sick child in hospital doctors arnt sure they can cure. The villain realizes something theyve invented could cure the child. Now the hard part is convincing them to let the villain help.
10
The villain starts to notice the hero is feeling more down the usual, so they start leaving the hero little notes to cheer them up. All is going well until the hero figures out who is sending them.
11
In a world of magic users where everyone is divided into the 6 eye colours, and the colour of your eyes represents what your powers are. Each colour has an elemental power, can talk to a certain type of creature(Invertebrates, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals), and has 3 other powers. For example, blue eyes control water, can commune with fish, etc. Everyone in the world has either red, orange, yellow, green, blue or purple eyes. Except for you, you were born with black eyes. Everyone is afraid of what your powers will be, but they should be more worried about the kind of creatures you can talk to…
12
A hero and a villain (and maybe their sidekicks, up to you) trapped in a haunted house or haunted location.
-One is scared so the other comforts them. They are both scared but trying to act like they aren’t. -One doesn’t believe in ghosts, and the other has the power to communicate with them or see them. -Ghosts aren’t real, but one continues to try and freak the other out, who claims they aren’t scared. -Ghost wingman. I need’ d say no more -One gets possessed, so the other has to do the whole ‘kiss to break a curse’ thing to bring them out of it. -The classic Person A thinks ghosts aren’t real so they prank Person B to scare them. Then shit gets real, but person B doesn’t believe person A, thinking its just another prank.
13
“I trusted you! You promised!”
“I kept my promise! I got you your results! Don’t question my methods from a top that high moral horse or yours, especially when the only reason you made a deal with me in the first place was because you were too much of a coward to do what needed to be done!”
14
The local wildfire has been growing out of control, forcing the city to have to evacuate. Suddenly, the villain with water powers shows up to lend a hand to fire fighters.
15
“Tell me hero,” the villain spoke, chains jangling from where they hung on the villains wrists as they walked up to the bars of the jail cell, “If you wanted to skip a press conference, could you?”
“Excuse me?”
“You’re sisters getting married, but your needed for a big event at the hero academy that day. Would you be allowed to attend the wedding? What about if your brother stole a pack of gum. Could you let it slide? Not would you, but could you?”
The hero paused. Could they? They had responsibilities! They had commitments to the city, and to the serving of justice!
The villain laughed at the heros silence, “I may be in jail, but you’re more chained then I’ll ever be,”
16
“So tell me,” the villain drawled, dragging a finger across the heros skin, making them shiver, “what changed your mind?”
17
Hero discovers the villain has a day job. It isnt at all what they expected. (Day care, animal shelter, etc)
18
“What are you going to do if you beat me, and suddenly the city dosent need a hero? What are you going to do if you get hurt and can no longer fight, and the city forgets about you just like all the heros before you? Who will you be when your legacy crumbles under the weight of all those who follow? Will you take up knitting?”
The hero stared unblinking and frozen as the villain took a step forward.
“Sure, your a hero. But what are you without that?”
The villain took another step forward.
“Your nothing, heroism is all you have. That pathetic title you curl up to every night. But without it?” They looked the hero up and down, “Absolutely nothing…”
19
A villain retires from villainy and gets plastic surgery (or simply never showed their face) so they can live a normal life without being recognized. While living their new life, they bump into the hero, and the two start falling for eachother. But the villain is terrified of the hero finding out the truth
20
The hero slammed their front door as quickly as they could, eyes wide, heart pounding.
The villain. The villain was outside their door.
“Well that was rude,”
21
A hero with magic powers, in a world where magic is unheard of. They have always kept their powers a secret, fearing they would be shunned, or tested on. They never use their powers in battle.
One day, while practicing their magic alone in the woods, the villain appears out of nowhere.
Before the hero can explain, the villain asks, “you have powers too?”
22
A hero dies. Or at least, they think they do. The next thing they know they wake up at their own funeral. And the only person there? Is the villain.
23
“The worst part, is you had the nerve to call it love”

Tumblr media
Of course, you were sick today. The day that Sebastian had told you that he was to take a day at the gym then spend it with Don. You knew that when you woke up this morning it wasn’t going to be a good day, the cold sheets a little foreshadowing of how your day would have gone. The little guttural feeling you had punching you in the gut right now, it had you on the floor, bent over the toilet seat with your head in the bowl.
You felt awful. Unable to move, unless it was your throat spasming. Definitely the worst day so far, you couldn’t move and when you finally were able to move at all you felt like a robot. Not a good look.
You decided that it was time to head back to bed, none of your food would stay down so you made yourself a bottle of water and stumbled into bed with a bucket in your hand, ready to put the bucket on the floor beside your bed.
Pulling at the covers, you curled up under them and took a swig of your drink. Tears rolled down your face as you felt the pain grow stronger, you rubbed your stomach in hopes it would make you feel better; it didn’t.
All you could do was pray that you would fall asleep to not feel this pain anymore. Sleep evaded you. The pain is all there is that you feel. You threw up another three times before you finally succumbed to the pleasures of sleep. Rattling of keys had been the object that had drawn you out of your few moments of slumber. You didn’t dare move though, there was no point, you couldn’t move anyway.
“Y/N! Y/N, where are you?” It took you a minute to realise that it was your friend, Josie, shouting your name in hopes of finding you. “Y/N, Whe- There you are. What are you still doing in bed? Oh...”
She looked as if she sighed out a breath of relief before she retracted, covering her mouth and nose with her hand. Inhaling the stench of the room, she quickly ran out of there, returning with air freshener, spraying it around you to make her feel better.
“You need a bath, babe. Stay here and I’ll run you one. Of course you’re going to stay here, you poor thing.” Josie rambled, you stopped her before she could go on for another hour.
“Jo, pour some lavender in there. Love you.”
Freshly out of the bath after thirty minutes, you were wrapped up in Sebastian’s bathrobe, a reminder that he was home as it still smelt like him. “I hate feeling like this. It sucks. But I feel better already.”
Josie softly smiled at you, pity in her eyes. “Must have been that nap you took but I know it sucks. Could you imagine Seb with this kinda illness, though? It would be 100% worse just because it’s man flu.”
“Thank you for being here.” You said, taking a seat on the couch. “What are you doing here anyway?”
“Seb called, said he tried texting and video chatting you but you wouldn’t pick up. I guess he was right to have me come over and check on you.”
“He’s such a cutie.” You groaned as you walked, the bath only slightly relieving some of the pain.
“I know. It makes me wanna barf… not like you, though. That shit is nasty, no, thank you, ma’am.” She tutted through a pinched nose, reminding of just how gross you felt and smelt not even a mere hour ago.
“You’re a pleasure as always, Jo. Always so kind to me, when I feel like shit. Thank you.”
She shrugged knowingly, a smirk on her face as she reached forward for the remote, finding a music channel and turning it down a little so it faded into the background becoming nothing but white noise. “So do you know what brought this on? Eat some bad food?”
“I don’t think so, otherwise Seb would feel the same way right?”
“Well you aren’t pooping as well as being sick so this isn’t a viral or bacterial thing. You’re not burning up? No severe migraines?” She asked and you only had one answer.
“Nope. And no, my appendix hasn’t burst because I’ve already had it out.” You said, becoming tired again as you let out a yawn.
“Well, I think I might need to slip out for a little bit.”
“Why? Where are you going? I thought you were going to take care of me?”
“I am. I’m just gonna head to the store and grab you some stuff to make tomato soup. I’ll be twenty minutes tops.” Josie was true to her word, never taking more than the twenty minutes she promised. Putting the bag of groceries on the counter, Josie pulls out the contents, revealing the ingredients she offered to get for you but you could tell that there was something else in the bag.
“What’s in there?”
Josie was fidgety, her fingers twiddling together. “I need you to keep an open mind because I think I know why you’re grossly throwing up.”
“Hit me. I wanna know how I can feel better right now.”
“It’s a good thing that you’re sitting down because…” She paused, making a face that she knew you weren’t going to like. “Because I think you’re pregnant.” her face unchanging as she pulled out the pregnancy test.
Then it hit you.
No.No.No. Fuck!
Hands dancing.
Tongues twining.
Passion blooming.
It was everything you could have asked for when he was away but now that Sebastian was back, you couldn’t keep your hands off of him. You covered every area of the apartment possible.
Oh crap.
“Fuck!”
“Yes you did.” Josie laughed at her own joke, the reaction not quite the same on your end.
“Oh god, Sebastian is going to kill me. He’s never going to want to talk to me. Why was I so stupid? Oh, I’m never gonna hear from him again. I’ll be kicked out. I’ll be a single mother. I’m gonna have to live with you and if I have this baby, you’re gonna hate me, then you’re gonna kick me out too. ”
Josie scoffed at you, helping you scurf back your hair away from your face, making you look into her wide eyes. “First of all, chill. I gotchu, you know I gotchu forever. Sebastian isn’t like that, but if he is you will never see him again and that is a promise and maybe a little bit of a threat. He’ll deserve it if he hurts you so. Just be my alibi if anything ever happens. Just go take the test. Negative? You’re just sick. Positive? You call Sebastian and you talk to him like an adult.”
“Why are you always right? Don’t you ever get sick of it?” You huffed before you smiled at her, squeezing at her hand after taking the small handful of the pregnancy test boxes back to the bathroom.
Five minutes passed and you were holding the peed on sticks in your hand, four out of five of them being positive. “I think I need to call Sebastian, and a doctor.”
After making an appointment with the doctor, you took a deep breath and pressed the button to call Sebastian. He picks up the call pretty quickly and you are not surprised.
“Y/N! Finally! Are you okay? What happened?”
“Hey bubba. I’m fine, just a little sickness. But I really don’t like doing this over the phone. When are you coming home. We need to talk.”
Two months later.
It was the night of the premiere of Avengers: Endgame and you couldn’t be more thrilled for the success that the Marvel Franchise had. It was 10 years of absolute lovable craziness. Thank you, Stan Lee.
You had no idea that you would be here on the aptly coloured, purple carpet with Sebastian after all you would have thought that you would still be with him after the whole pregnancy fiasco but the two of you were able to talk things through. Things were thrown, voices were raised, and tears were shed but still after all of that, Sebastian made the executive decision to calm the two of you down. The stress was no good for anyone at this point. You were both going to be parents; it’s what was established.
The two of you walked hand in hand, palms sweating as the cameras flashed, and photographers called out to each and every star that was involved in the production of Endgame. The culmination of the whole franchise was just so surreal, the fact that it was ending with a bang both made you swell with pride but it also made you a tad emotional because this collection of amazing characters wouldn’t continue but the legacy they left would. And that was what mattered.
“Sebastian! Y/N! Over here!” You heard from one of the interviewers, looking beautiful in her outfit, Sebastian rubbed his thumb across your knuckles, you were going to be okay. He was right there with you and you had done this a few times before. He was there for you.
“Hi.” “Hello. You and Sebastian answered at the same time, making the interviewer laugh.
“Wait, I remember you. I bought you a soup in a thermos and Tom gave you his jacket. I see we got lucky with good weather today, huh?” You said, smiling at her.
“Yes. You remember me?!” The woman turned to the camera looking right into the lens of it. “Guys, I’m fangirling so hard right now. Ah!”
Once the woman got her fangirling out of the way, she moved onto the interview, trying to get any information that she could before the movie premiered. Sebastian took over that one, telling her that there was no way that they were allowed to say anything about the movie other than he was dust.
“Now we’ve got that movie non gossip out of the way. Are you okay to talk freely about your pregnancy?”
You looked to Sebastian, it was his decision just as much as it was yours, you knew that Sebastian wanted to keep his private life separate from his professional acting career. “It’s okay, honey. Go ahead.”
“I think you’re good to go.”
“Thank you. I must say that you do look stunning in that dress.” She gushed, you thanked her, hiding your face a little. You loved this dress, the nude under layer and the little white and purple flowers that scattered across your dress, your bump barely visible through your dress.
“How far along are you?”
“Well, we’re in the first week of the second trimester. So I’m a little more confident when telling you that.”
“That’s amazing. Was the pregnancy planned at all?”
You made a face, sucking in a little air, looking to Sebastian for a little light to be shed on the situation. “Not at all. It was Y/N’s friend that actually realised that her morning sickness wasn’t her having the flu. She felt absolutely awful that morning, it was enough to know that it was bad when I tried to call her and I didn’t get an answer.
“We had our issues, you know, we didn’t know what to do, we're new at this. But I think that it’s important to know that you don’t abandon your family.” Sebastian softly smiled at you, subconsciously putting a hand on your slowly growing stomach. “I guess that is what this franchise is about though, right? It’s about family and- and looking out for one another. Everybody’s got a somebody here and I love that.”
“And Thanos, fucks it all up and snaps his goddamn fingers.” The three of you and the cameraman began to laugh at your little outburst about the mad, purple titan. “God, I can’t wait for the premiere tonight but I’m scared. For everybody. But especially for me, you know, I’m an emotional person anyway, add a hormonal woman to the mix and a whole lot of angst. Get my ice cream and tissues ready, because I’m coming for you, Thanos.”
“I heard that!”
“Love you, Josh. For the record, Josh is a nice guy, the character he plays is a big old sack of balls and I have no idea how he does it so convincingly.” Lovingly, you made eyes at Seb. “But it’s just like my Sebastian, a dark hydra assassin but in reality he’s a big ball of sunshine and goofiness. And I love him for it.”
“This is- this is what gets me.” The interviewer leaned in a little as Sebastian’s voice dropped to a slight whisper. “I know that she is going to be the best mom for our child because Y/N loves everything and everyone and that is a great quality to have but she’s also caring and matches my goofy side but her sass outweighs mine of course, no one can beat that.”
“Aww, he’s making me cry already. Seb,” you whined. “My makeup.”
“Well that's it folks.” The woman spoke, telling the audience that this was one of the cutest interviews that she had ever taken, that she could die happy and quickly saying congratulations before the two of you were whisked away to walk the carpet again and pose for pictures.
“You’re way too good to me, you know that right?” You said to Seb as you admired the sky blue suit he was wearing over his plain white tee. “I never even got to tell them that this baby will have the hottest dad in the world as well as the sweetest man. Thank you for being my baby daddy.”
Unbeknownst to you, the cameras had caught every single moment the two of you shared. The kisses you shared together, were now shared with the world, all over social media. At this point you didn’t care, you only cared about the man in front of you and the baby growing in your stomach. And this god damn movie!
Feedback is gold and appreciated

Chicken Soup
Spencer Reid x Fem!Reader
Category: Fluff
TW: None :)
Word Count: 1,925
A/N: I’m so so very sorry for how long this took. I ruptured my appendix right after I got this request then started classes again and all of a sudden it was October! But it’s done now and we are on the road to being on top of our shit again! Woo! (I may or may not have posted this during math class too oops)
----------
Spencer had given you a key to his apartment a few months ago. After Penelope was shot, you really struggled being alone in your apartment. So, you found yourself knocking on Spencer’s door after a long case. More often than not, you stayed the night. Over time, you’d brought a few things to keep there for when you did sleep over. While Spencer was no Derek Morgan, protector-of-all, kicking-doors-in-and-taking-names, he knew how to distract you from the darkness you both saw on a daily basis. And on the worst nights, he held you after your nightmares.
You had tried to return the key once you could finally be alone again. Spencer refused, insisting you were welcome to come and go as you pleased. So you did, often bearing gifts as you walked through the door. Sometimes coffee, a home cooked meal, or maybe a movie.
The two of you had always been close. You had a habit of befriending the misfits and bringing them out of their shells. It also helped that people seemed to find you easy to talk to. You can’t name how many times an acquaintance has spilled their soul to you just because you “seem really approachable”.
And yet, after months of spending most of your days off together and you having a key to his apartment, it took nearly the entire BAU team, excluding Hotch, holding an intervention of sorts to force you two to address the fact that you clearly liked each other and what you were currently doing, was dating.
That led to an awkward evening back at his apartment, trying to talk things through. You knew Spencer didn’t exactly have a lot of experience with relationships and honestly, you didn’t have a lot of experience with healthy ones. After an excruciating half hour of awkward silence and “well, what do you think?” back and forth, Spencer just took your face in his hands and kissed you.
You’d been officially together since then. Over the past few weeks, the two of you had established a little routine at work. He usually beat you there on nights you didn’t stay with him. He’d grab you both coffee and leave yours at your desk with a little drawing on a sticky note. The little creatures he drew were odd looking and sometimes a bit scary, but you still found yourself storing the sticky notes away in one of the drawers in your desk.
Today, you were running late after an accident on the freeway put you much further behind schedule than you would’ve liked. As you stepped out of the elevator on the sixth floor, you scanned the room for his mop of curly hair, coming up empty.
“Spence isn’t with you?” JJ asked, looking concerned as she hoisted the case files she was carrying higher into her arms.
“No, I stayed home last night because I had to finish some laundry I was putting off. Is he not here?” you tried to ignore the surge of panic that began to flow through you. While it was highly unlikely anything had happened to him, he’d been held captive before. In your line of work, it wasn’t completely off the table. You and JJ locked eyes, slight worry laced in both of your eyes.
“Hotch hasn’t heard from him, I just figured you had,” she said.
“No, I’ll call him now.”
You beelined for the empty conference room before calling your boyfriend. “Y/N?” Spencer croaked, picking up on the fourth ring.
You quickly realized he was sick. After hanging up and reassuring Spencer you’d be there as fast as you could, ignoring his protests that you need to be at work, you found yourself in Hotch’s office.
“Look, we don’t have a case and if we get one, I can be back here, ready to go in twenty minutes flat. It’s just, he doesn’t take care of himself as it is and he’s likely downplaying how sick he really is-” you started off, rambling off excuses.
“Y/L/N,” Hotch said, cutting you off. “It’s fine. Just take your paperwork with you. I’ll have Garcia call you if we get a case, okay?”
“Thank you so much, Sir,” you said, heading back to your desk to grab your things. You didn’t need to take the day off to go take care of your sick boyfriend. However, your boyfriend was rarely sick. In the time that you’ve known him, you’d never seen him sick. Ever. You attributed it to his heightened awareness of the spread of germs and his commitment to handwashing.
----------
On your way back to Spencer’s apartment, you made a quick pit stop at the local grocery store, picking up a few ingredients for your normal go to comfort foods.
You set the bags down when you reached his apartment door, fishing your key out of your bag. You opened the door to find a full sink and no sign of Spencer. You set the groceries on the counter before peeking into his bedroom.
Spencer was dead asleep, curled into the fetal position under his comforter and an additional three throw blankets. His hair was damp and matted on his forehead. There was a tense look on his sleeping face, brows furrowed and frowning. You stepped into the room, moving to situate yourself next to him on the bed. Gently, you brushed a few strands of hair from his forehead. “Y/N?” Spencer mumbled out, not yet opening his eyes. You leaned down to place a soft peck on his forehead, causing him to open his eyes. “I told you not to come,” he said sleepily, trying his best to sound stern.
“As if I wouldn’t. How are you feeling, baby?” you asked, voice still hushed.
“I have a fever. It’s probably the flu. Which means you’re going to get sick too,” he started, propping himself up on his elbows and pulling himself out of your gentle grasp.
You rolled your eyes before climbing all the way onto the bed and guiding him to rest back on your chest. “If I can handle kicking ass on a daily basis, I can handle a measly little cold. Now shut up and let me take care of you.”
Spencer huffed under his breath before settling his head on your chest, right over your heart. You could feel him relax as he listened to the steady pace of your heartbeat, drifting off to a more peaceful sleep. His eyebrows relaxed as you stroked his hair.
----------
You weren’t sure how long you were asleep when you woke up, checking Spencer’s bedside clock to see it had only been about two hours. Instinctively, you checked your phone, making sure you hadn’t missed any calls from Hotch. By some miracle, you had no new notifications. Maybe just this once, the universe would give you a day to take care of your sick boyfriend without having to race off to play hero.
Spencer was fast asleep, his breathing even and slow. You smiled to yourself before slipping out of his bed and resting his hand back against the pillows. You could lay there all day as he slept, but you knew you needed to start cooking now so he’d have something to eat when he finally emerged from his slumber.
Your mother had always made homemade soup when you were sick. It was cheesy as hell, but it was what you knew. So you got to work cutting up the vegetables you brought from the store as you popped the chicken in the over. You hummed to yourself as you cooked, dancing around aimlessly and singing into the butcher knife in your hand.
“Should I be concerned that you use knives as microphones?” Spencer asked, shuffling from his room, wrapped in a blanket. You froze, striking an Elvis pose with your knife as you smiled at him. His voice was less groggy now and he seemed to be a little more awake.
“Thank you, thank you very much,” you imitated Elvis, giggling a bit as you returned to chopping vegetables. “And listen, a girl has to make do with whatever makeshift mic she can find,” you teased, “Are you hungry?”
Spencer scrunched his face just enough for you to sense he still didn’t have an appetite. Regardless, he needed to eat. “I don’t need to be a genius to tell you how important it is that you get nutrients into your body-”
“Yeah, yeah” he grumbled, making his way to a cabinet behind you. He grabbed a sleeve of saltines from the middle shelf before hoisting himself onto the counter next to where you were slicing. “What are you making? It smells good.”
“Chicken soup,”
He hummed in acknowledgement, placing a cracker in his mouth. You smiled to yourself as the two of you sat in silence, you cutting up some celery and him munching on a cracker. You didn’t often get much domestic time together. With your work schedules, you didn’t have a lot of free time to begin with. Mostly, you’d do something quiet and low energy. It was hard to remember the last time you got to just be in each other’s presence while you did normal people things.
“What are you smiling around?” Spencer asked, looking at you inquisitively.
You looked up at him, breaking into a bigger smile. “It’s nice, getting to just be with you on a weekday, making lunch. I’d rather you weren’t sick, of course, but we haven’t had a day off in forever.”
He grinned back at you, taking a moment to brush a strand of hair that escaped your bun behind your ear. “I love you,” he said plainly, making you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
You’d both said I love you before, but you still felt the same butterflies as the first time he said it. You could’ve stayed like that for the rest of time, reveling in his gaze. However, the oven beeped, letting you know the chicken was done.
“I have to get that,” you whispered out, hating to remove your face from his light touch.
You pulled the chicken from the oven before shooing Spencer out of the kitchen and back into bed, convincing him to get some more rest as you finished the soup.
----------
As you lounged on the sofa with Spencer’s head in your lap later that evening, it dawned on you that Hotch never texted. You actually got a real day off. You stroked Spencer’s hair softly, twirling some of his little curls between your fingers. “What’s that song?” Spencer asked, shifting to look up at you. You furrowed your eyebrows at him, clearly confused. “You’ve been humming something, I don’t recognize it,” he said.
You stopped for a moment, realizing it was the same song your mom used to sing you when you were sick. “I’m not actually sure what it’s called,” you admitted, “My mom used to sing it to me when I was sick. I don’t remember the words anymore, just the melody.”
Spencer nodded in agreement, still staring up at you.
“What?” you asked.
He shook his head. “Nothing, I just love you, that’s all.”
“I love you more.”
He leaned up to give you a quick kiss, his lips far less chapped after you spent the day pumping him full of liquids and hot soup. He laid back on your lap, tuning back into the silly cartoon on the television screen. Your hands found their way back into his hair again, sighing contently.

I have one too many Shouji headcannons that I wanna talk about, but here's a few!
One thing is that he has some serious nerve damage in his back, like- it's not funny
He didn't even realise it was going to be such a problem until he tried exercising when they came back from Nabu
He could normally lift etra heavy weights and all that, he was able to hold out for a lot longer, and he thanked whatever god was out there that he was alone when it happened
He lifted up the weight, heard a loud crack, and was sent to the floor in pain. He couldn't move, and when he tried it felt like he was being stabbed with a bunch of needles in his back
It took him a half hour to force himself off the floor, and almost another hour to get back to the dorms. The pain from it never went away, and he didn't think much of it
He didn't even tell anyone until around a month later when he was forced to. It was a training exercise and his lower back felt like it was on fire the whole time. He and his team (Tokoyami and Midoryia) were able to make it through just fine, and Shouji thought it would be fine, they were going back to the dorms anyway
Dark Shadow was out, and was saying something about how great Shouji did, and clapped him on the back, not thinking much of it.
Shouji's whole world went white the second Dark Shadow put pressure on his back
When he came to, he was face down on a stretcher, not able to move or hear things properly. When the static cleared up, he could hear Midoryia's panicked muttering and he felt something on his head, a hand.
Tokoyami was saying something, then voices from up ahead started getting louder and Shouji felt the pace pick up, he couldn't move to speak, he just had to sit there until he felt something stick in him and the world went dark
When he woke up the next morning, he was forced to tell Aziawa, Recovery Girl and All Might about what happened and why his back was in constant pain. After Recovery Girl gave out about "self sacrificing idiots" while hitting All Might in the shin, Shouji was told he was stuck on bedrest, again.
Shouji agreed, reluctantly, and after a few days was allowed back in class.
That- was not supposed to turn into that, but moving on- to some more "can be extended on-" headcannons
He brushes his teeth at four am in the morning, no I don't have an explanation
The first day of UA he was mistaken as a second year student and got so nervous he agreed and had to have another student tell the teacher they got it wrong
He has so many extra pens and pencils because Denki shoots them across the room and loses them so Shouji has learnt to keep extra on him
If Bakugo and Kirishima were to ever get together to "study" Shouji would have to open a window because of the smell of burning rubber and caramel. He still to this day doesn't know what they do in there, he doesn't know what rubber has to do with their maths test.
The only extra thing he has in his room is a plush that was given to him when he was a kid. He's never let it go and it helps calm him down when he's panicking or stressing, he keeps it hidden in a drawer he can lock
This headcannon I read somewhere, can't remember where, but Shouji is a minimalist because he was bounced around a lot as a kid so he never got to keep anything or make a lot of friends, and to add to that his parents didn't actually give him the plush, it was given to him by another relative
Speaking of, if he were ever to be hit with a deaging quirk he'd be be the smallest kid you've ever seen, he was tiny when he was a kid, and he didn't have a growth spurt until middle school
Also as a kid he was super shy but really quick to settle into unknown environments once given a reason to trust the people around him. If say he was with the hero's they only need to say they're hero's and Shouji is happy to stay.
But he has the tendency to wander, even as a teenager sometimes he'll forget where he is and go wandering around alone, and ends up getting lost easily.
He also gets sensory overloads. It's very common for him and when he does he tends to just leave, he'll just walk away no matter where he is, if he's in class he'll ask to go to the bathroom and disappear for a while
It's more dangerous in public though, because he doesn't need to ask, and it takes forever for people to notice he's gone because he's so quiet. So when they do realise, whoever's with him is freaking out thinking he got snatched by a villain.
He also stims. I love this idea.
When he does it's really subtle and very few notice but those who do are like :0
Tokoyami notices easily, being observant like that, and whatever it is that made Shouji stim is either coming back with them or Tokoyami is taking it away.
Tokoyami keeps whatever he bought in his room so it doesn't clutter Shouji's room and lets him come and take it when he's around
Shouji and Tokoyami hang out a lot, and they're normally studying, but Dark Shadow tends to distract Shouji so it's just Tokoyami studying until he's yelling at Dark Shadow to stop trying to bench press Shouji
Kaminari, Mina and Sero are the worst influences on Shouji Aziawa has met. They lived together a week and Kaminari has not only 1. Stolen a shopping cart. 2. Snuck it into the dorms, but they used Shouji as a seat, and his arms as seatbelts, and went down the stairs in the shopping cart.
Aziawa has to drag Sero, Mina and Kaminari to Recovery Girl while Shouji limped behind them.
Aziawa has also walked in on Bakugo trying to teach Shouji to curse, and almost laughed when Shouji sat there, face blank, and said everything BUT fuck
Aziawa didn't think much of it until during training Shouji fell down two stories saving Iida the trouble, sat up, and mumbled "awe fuck" before standing up and continuing the exercise.
Aziawa forgave himself for wheezing when Bakugo cheered loudly before getting smacked over the head by Kirishima for "ruining Shouji's innocence"
Speaking of, M//eta has called Shouji "sexy octopus" so many times and Shouji's normally let it slide but one time Asui was listening in, heard it, and smacked the trash so far he ended up on the other side of the gym.
People call Shouji baby. Even people outside of 1A. Monoma has fucked up and called Shouji a baby once, and it was a "total accident"
((Kendou asked why Monoma hadn't ever said anything to Shouji and Monoma went "I can't make fun of the 1A baby, I'm not ready to die"))
Shouji is touch starved, and once the girls were cuddling, and Mina forced Shouji to join, he was in tears when they hugged him and ended up falling asleep ten minutes into the movie, he woke up in blankets and surrounded by friends
Shouji is a little spoon. I don't care if he's 6"2. He's a little spoon and I will die on this hill.
He has on multiple occasions forgotten which hand he left his phone in, and dropped it looking for it
Shouji and Ojiro watch Star Wars together, and of all people they roped Momo into watching with them and now she's hooked
Dark Shadow once threw someone down the stairs because they called Shouji a freak
Before Bakugo's character development, he called Shouji freaky, and once they moved into the dorms Bakugo became the first person to jump the gun on anyone who said shit about Shouji's appearance
Shouji. Sucks. At. Maths. I don't have a reason for this, he's really good at History and Science though.
Maths is really hard for some people(me) and Shouji and Denki do their maths homework with Momo. Kaminari once cried over it because he just didn't get it. Shouji almost followed when Momo moved on to Geography
Shouji is willing to let anyone talk to him about their problems, he's very willing to listen, but no one has ever heard him talk about his problems. When people try to let him know it's okay for him to talk, Shouji distracts them with the nearest thing, and he's even tried it with Aziawa
Back to being bounced around as a kid, Shouji still gets bounced around as a teen, just not as often. One couple that took Shouji ended up being... not the greatest people he's ever met.
Aziawa noticed immediately that there was something wrong when Shouji came in late, Recovery Girl at his side. His hands were wrapped in bandages and he sat down without looking up.
Recovery Girl said there was glass in his hands, but Shouji wouldn't tell her how it happened. His exact words were "it was an accident, he- I didn't mean to drop it" and Aziawa's dad instincts were going "N O"
This went on for several weeks, and with every day the injuries got worse and worse until one day Recovery Girl came in and asked if Shouji had shown up, only for Aziawa to say no, normally Shouji goes to Recovery Girl first, then class.
This was concerning, and what was worse is that the new address hadn't been registered, so they couldn't even look for Shouji
Shouji came in three days later, almost two hours earlier than he should've. He ran around looking for Aziawa, or All Might, or anyone who could help him.
Aziawa found him knocking on the staff room door, and Shouji told him what had happened (I'll leave that to you) and Aziawa stood up, left Shouji in Present Mic and All Might's semi capable hands, and went to beat some ass.
No one talks about Aziawa walking into class with bloody fists, talking to Shouji about moving into school funded apartments until the dorms are built.
I should've kept this one and the first one together but oh well-
During flu season no matter how much Shouji avoids it he gets sick and gets knocked down for at least a solid week before he even starts to get better at all
One time Denki caught some random bug, no one knew from where, but it spread fast and hit hard. Shouji stayed as far away from everyone as he could but ended up getting it and was stuck in the hospital overnight because of it, though Shouji doesn't remember this part
It was so bad that even Aziawa got it
All Might is the only one who can carry Shouji, aside from Uraraka but she doesn't count because she makes him float.
I have more but I think I've gone too far for today lmao
Feel free to add to these :D

[Ch.1] [Ch.2] [Ch.3]
Tumblr media
“Wake up, Sleeping Beauty!” You heard right before getting smacked in the face with a pillow. Kie laughed above you, bouncing on the bed next to you.
You groaned in annoyance, grabbing the pillow and throwing it at her. She dodged it and plopped down next to you. “I am never sleeping over at your house again,” You scowled at her jokingly. Kid smiled in response, poking you in the side.
Suddenly your stomach churned and your scowled contorted into a grimace. Kie watched concerned as you jumped off the bed, cradling your stomach and covering your mouth as you ran to the bathroom and lifted the toilet seat before emptying the contents of your stomach in it. Your eyes water and you use one of you hands to hold back your hair and the other to support yourself.
This was the third morning in a row that you woke up sick and you thought it was just the flu or something but now you weren’t so sure. You tried to remember the last time you had gotten your period and came up empty. You were definitely late for it and a million thoughts crossed your mind before you called out for Kie.
“Are you ok, Y/N?” She questioned.
“Shit,” you breathed out beginning to panic. “Kie! Get it here now! Please!”
Kie ran into the bathroom as fast as she could, accidentally kicking the door frame with her foot. “Fuck, shit!” She cried out. “What’s wrong?”
“Kie, I think I might be pregnant,” You said, voice quivering slightly.
She froze in place, whipping her head around to stare at you. Her eyes looked like they were ready to pop out of her head in shock. You looked away from her scrutinizing gaze, feeling ashamed of yourself.
“Ok, don’t freak out. We’ll go get a test so we can be positive. Well hopefully not positive ‘cause you know…” Kie trailed off. You would have laughed at her awkwardness had you not been freaking out.
The two of you rushed to the shop and back to Kiara’s house as fast as possible. You went to the bathroom, holding the bag with the pregnancy test in hand and closed the door behind you for some privacy. You took the box out and opened it.
You stared at the test for a minute before you worked up the courage to get down to business. You pulled down your pants and sat in the toilet ready to pee on the stick and get this whole thing over with. After you finish you wash your hands and set a timer in your phone until the results are ready. You let Kie into the bathroom to wait with you.
The timer went off and your eyes were filled with unshed tears at this point, threatening to spill over at any given moment. You almost couldn’t bring yourself to look, too scared of what the result would be. You stared down at the pregnancy test in your hand. It showed two thin lines that took your breath away and not in a good way. You felt like you were gonna be sick again. Shakily, you passed it to Kie to examine.
Kie took the test in her hands, eyes widening as she looked at the results. “Y/N… It’s positive,” She said, giving you a look of sympathy.
You shook your head, tears in your eyes. You. How could you take care of a baby when you could barely take care of yourself? You started to cry, feeling overwhelmed by the situation. Kie set the test on the counter and pulled you into her arms as tears streamed down your face.
“How are you gonna tell JJ?” Kie asked carefully, knowing the two of you had been ‘sneaking around.’ It wasn’t really a secret between the Pogues that you and JJ were together. They didn’t seem to mind either, despite it breaking the rule of no pogues macking on other pogues, because they knew how much you liked each other and were good for one another.
You sobered up, freezing in Kiara’s embrace. You had no idea how you were going to tell him or how he would react to you being pregnant with his child. You were just kids and could barely even take care of yourselves let alone a baby. JJ already had enough on his plate having to pay off his restitution and avoid his dad's wrath, you were worried how he would take the news.
“I don’t know, Kie,” You sighed. “What if I tell him and he freaks out?”
Kie bites her lip. JJ has never been known to act rationally when it came to such serious things but she also knew how he felt about you. He loved you, anyone could see that. And she just hoped that JJ’s reaction proved it.
Later that day Kiara dropped you off at home and you texted JJ to meet you there. You flopped down on your bed waiting for him to arrive. You and Kiara both agreed that you should tell JJ the news straight up no matter what. There was no point in beating around the bush, especially since soon you wouldn’t be able to hide it after your baby bump started to show.
You were snapped out of your thoughts when you heard tapping on your window. You roll out of bed when you see it's just JJ. You told him to go through the front door since no one else was home but like usual he didn’t listen. His hand brushes against yours as he climbs inside your room and your heart starts to beat so loudly in your chest you’re sure JJ can hear it too.
“Why didn’t you use the door?”
“Sneaking in through your window makes me feel like a badass,” JJ said laughing. He sat down on your bed, patting the seat next to him. “So, you said you had something important to tell me or did you just miss me?”
You ignored his invitation to sit down, biting your lip as you practiced what you were about to say in your head.
“Y/N?” JJ said when you didn’t respond.
“JJ, I’m pregnant.”
You stared at the floor, unable to meet his eyes. He didn’t say anything and you wondered if he had disappeared into thin air. You wished a hold would open up underneath you and swallow you whole or maybe even for another store to come and wash everything away because anything would be better than JJ’s silence.
“Are you sure?” He asks hesitantly and you nod, still not having the courage to look at him. “Fuck. What are we gonna do? We’re just a couple of Pogues who don’t know shit about taking care of a kid.” JJ hopped off the bed and began pacing.
“JJ, hey,” You said, trying to get him to look at you. “It’s fine. We'll be fine.”
“I’m not ready to be a dad, I can’t.” He declared, finally looking at you for the first time since you told him you were pregnant.
“You think that I’m ready to be a mom? Hell no, but it doesn’t mean I can’t do this,” You said hoping to get through to him. “I’m keeping the Baby, JJ.”
“No, no. I can’t do this with you right now. I’m sorry but I have to go.”
You watched JJ as he dashed out of your room. “You’re just gonna walk away like that?” You yelled at his back. “Well fuck you then! I don’t need you!”
He did walk away just like that, slamming your front door behind him. You scoffed, now he wanted to use the fucking door. You heard the door open a moment later and you ran out of your room hoping JJ changed his mind and came back. Instead you saw your mom and younger sister, faces filled with confusion. You didn’t even notice you were crying until your mother had her arms around you, wiping your fallen tears away.
You hugged her back tightly. Your heart was broken into a million pieces, your worst fear had come true when JJ walked out on you. Ever since your dad left you mom for some rich kook woman you had been afraid of the same thing happening to you. JJ knew that too and he still left. Maybe that’s what hurt the most.
“Mom, I’m so sorry,” You cried out. “I didn’t mean to, I swear and h-he, JJ, got upset and he left. Oh my god, he just left.” You cried some more as your mom comforted you. You felt like your throat was closing as you choked on your tears.
“Go get your sister some water,” Your mom told you little sister. “It’s ok, baby. I got you.”
Your sister returned with the water and you drank it all within a matter of seconds as your mother guided you back to your room. She crawled on the bed with you, placing the blanket over you and stroked your hair.
“Mommy, I’m pregnant,” You whispered. You expected her to get mad like JJ did but she didn’t. Instead she wrapped your arms around you and whispered reassurances to you. She said that JJ would come around and it might take some time but to trust him. You really hoped that she was right because you didn’t know what you would do without him.
You cried yourself to sleep that night, grateful for your mom who never left your side until the morning. She gave you some tips on how to help with morning sickness and went to make breakfast for the family. You didn’t feel like getting out of bed or even eating but you forced yourself to get ready for the day. You opened your window, hoping a little fresh air would help get you out of your slump.
You took a quick shower, most of which you spent feeling your tummy, unable to imagine a tiny baby growing inside of you. The hot water felt good on your skin and you wished you never had to get out but of course you did. You threw on a pair of sweats and a t-shirt of JJ’s that he had left over one night. It still smelled like him and it made you want to cry.
When you walked back in your room you saw JJ trying to sneak into your room through the window and it scared the shit out of you. “What the fuck, JJ?”
“Y/N, please hear me out,” JJ pleaded, staring at you. His eyes were filled with determination and you knew he wouldn’t give up without a fight. You crossed your arms in response. “I’m so sorry for how I reacted. I was being fucking stupid and I was scared. You’ve seen how my dad is and I guess I was just afraid I’d end up just like him. I never want my kid to grow up with a deadbeat dad like I did. I wanna be here for you. For our baby.”
Your lip quivered at his confession, feeling heartbroken at the truth about how he felt. From the moment you met JJ you knew he was special and for him to think he could ever be like his father was a punch to the gut. He was the sweetest, kindest person you ever had the pleasure of knowing and you knew with your whole heart that JJ would ever end up like that monster.
“Don’t ever think that of yourself again. You’re going to be a great father,” You sniffled, clutching the material of his shirt in your hand before pulling him into your arms. You clung to him like a baby, your tears wetting his lips as you pulled him into a kiss. JJ had a few tears of his own streaming down his cheeks and you wiped them away, holding JJ’s chin in your hand and turned his face to look at you. “I love you, JJ. I’m so happy you came back.”
“I’m never leaving you again, pretty girl.” JJ murmured. “It was the biggest mistake of my life.”
Your bedroom door creaked open and your mom stuck her head in. “Breakfast is ready if you-,” She started but stopped when she saw JJ. She smiled at you both before giving JJ a look that said ‘you better not hurt my daughter again,’ and closing the door on her way out. She was happy to see the two of you making up. JJ was a good kid and she knew you loved each other very much so for now she would let you be and save the safe sex lecture for later even though now it was far too late for that.
“Does your mom know?” JJ asked nervously.
“Why? Thinking about backing out again?” You teased.
JJ shook his head. “No, not by choice at least. Just want to make sure your mom doesn’t murder. Did you see the death stare she gave me?”
“You’ll be fine,” You laughed, patting his chest.
“I can’t believe we’re gonna have a baby! Our own baby Pogue!” JJ chortled, spinning you around the room. He pulled you into a kiss and you both laughed in excitement.
The next few days that followed consisted of you and JJ telling the rest of the Pogues besides Kiara, who already knew, that you were pregnant. They took it surprisingly well and you figured Kiara might have let something slip so that they had some time to process you and JJ together before freaking out when you told them.
JJ also would not stop saying “damn my baby momma is fine!” any chance he got. He felt immense pride knowing you were carrying his child and he would let the whole world know if he could. He loved you with his whole being and he would continue to for the rest of his life. Not only you, but your child as well. JJ realized that he finally had the chance at the family he always wanted and he knew would do anything he had to make it work. He thought back to when you and him started sneaking around. He was the one who initiated the relationship, breaking the no pogues macking on other pogues rule, not caring about the consequences. He surely didn’t think it was you pregnant but now that he knew what happens when pogues mack, he still didn’t regret a single thing. He was finally happy.

The past
Tumblr media
He didn't liked to fight with you, really... bjt sometimes he forgot how... far away he can be with his emotions.
He was more stuck on his thoughts than he was used to... even Overhaul, his childhood friend, called him out for it. Mimic had to slap the back of his head to make him go back to concentrate on the meeting, even the big boss was getting worried at this point.
The worst part of the day was when you tried to help him with something and he lashed on you.
"Just-!" He breathed in and out with a hand on his head before letting out a chuff and giving your back to you "Just leave me alone. I dont need another headache."
"... fine then Kurono." You hissed his sur name and he winced at the sound of it "I was only trying to help my boyfriend you jerk."
"Whatever. As if I needed some." He waved you off as he heard your scoff, heart cleansing when he just knew you were going to get angry at him, cry because of him.
Fucking idiot...
.
.
.
The man laughed in glory as he stared at the target all pierced with the amount of shots that was hit.
"Ya saw how maany scores your dad did Tiger?!" The man laughed louder as a tony giggle escaped his mouth at enthusiasm of the man.
"Now now..." a femine and more calm voice called from the balcony "We dont want to cause problems to the neighbors now do we? Hajime?"
"Nah!" The man waved with a bark of laughter "If anything I just 'WOSH!" he grabbed him and threw in the air as he catched.
"Dad!" He clinged on his arms but pet put a nervous laughter.
"No using of quirks Hajime..." the woman sighed but soon it looked like she felt a bit dizzy and the man was fast enough to catch her even with him on his arms.
"Ayumi.." the older man spoke on a less happy tone, brows furrowed as he checked the woman's temperature.
"I'm fine Hajime." Despite the pain and fatigue, she still could smile a bit and pinch his cheek "How is my teddy bear doing huh?"
"Mom... are you getting sick?" He mumbled as his father put him on the ground and helped his mother to get up.
"Is just a flu baby. Nothing to worry about." The woman said gently as the man furrowed his eyebrows and looked away.
"When you're going to get better?"
"Soon, Hari. Mommy is going to get better soon."
.
.
.
He sighed, hand resting on the balcony as he stared at the city... the sky was with a beautiful shade of orange, indicating that soon night time he was going to take some rest at least.
He took off his gun out of his pocket to inspect...but his mind was in other place as he furrowed his eyebrows at it.
.
.
.
"This is a very well gift of your old man to ya tiger, I need you to take care of it." The man gave the gun, unloaded, to the boy as he furrowed his eyebrows at it.
"When you're going to get back?" The boy mumbled as the man sighed, patted his shoulder and got his suitcase and a hat, smirking sadly at the boy on the entrance.
"See ya soon... Hari."
His father never called him Hari.... it was always a nickname ... something wasted right... and before he could reach the door to tell him to wait the door was closed on his face.
"Hari..." he heard the call of his mother and he immediatly dropped the gun, grabbing the tray where it contained a plate of food, a cup of water and inumerous pills he didn't know for what.
"I am here." He mumbled, entering the room as the sickly woman giggled, her usually bright with life now it seemed drained out of energy and... everything.
"You sound like All Might there baby.." he frowned as he took a seat besides the woman.
"You won't eat?"
"Dont have energies to do it hun... I actually called you here for other thing... " the woman got up slowly on her elbows just to drink the water and the pills.
He could see her bones... it wasn't normal... none of that was. His father leaving without a explanation, his mom didn't ever got better from thsi flu... what the hell was even happening?!
"Hari..." she carresed his cheek, knowing already of his quirk "You are such a beautiful and little gentleman you know that?"
He pursed his lips... he didn't liked where this story was going.
"Despite having my character and appearance you still got daddy's eyes and quirk that I love so so much." She mused before quickly grabbing a napkin and having a fit of coughing.
"Mom..?" He said and widened his eyes in horror at seing a bit of red on the white napkin...
"Sweety... remember that talk me and your daddy had? About a beautiful place where nana went?" He nodded as she gave him a hearted yet sad smile "Mommy is soon going to met nana once again!"
"Can I come too?" He asked while fisting the sheets as the woman shaked her head before cupping his cheek.
"I'm afraid not honey.. you still have so many years here."
"You too!" He exclaimed as the woman brought him to a hug, he could feel her ribcage and her shoulder blade yet he hugged her trembling.
"No honey... mommy has to go met nana." She said with a sad smile while carresing his back "baby, you would like to live with your uncles?"
"No!" He exclaimed, fist clenching on her clothing as he cried "I want to stay like it was before! You and daddy!"
"... daddy is not coming back sweety..." she said painfully as he widened his eyes "That's why I want you to stay with your uncles.."
"But-!" She shushed him quietly and weakly.
"Please... be good to your uncles... promise me?" She lifted up her bony arm with her pinky out as he sniffled and wiped his face with the back of his hoodie and interlocked his pinky with her.
"Okay..."
"That's my brave boy..." she cupped his face "You're such a good boy Hari..."
.
.
.
The punching bag was almost disfigured from how much he had used so far.
"Angry today buddy?" Rappa asked while rolling his arms to strech some bones of his shoulder.
"Could say that." He mumbled with a nonchantly look before hearing Overhaul voice calling for him.
"Go on. Overjerk is calling for you man."
Nodding towards Rappa, he grabbed his coat and got out from the hide out and met with Chisaki leaning on the door frame with a nonchantly look.
"Listen, I knew that I fuck up." He lifted his hands up as Chisaki only arched a eyebrow but soon mentioned with his gaze at the door of his dorm. "... ah."
"Not even me get my past get the best of me blockhead." He muttered nonchantly before turning his back to him and waving "I dont want to see that partner of yours crying their eyes out, it makes me sick."
"Oh fuck off, what doesn't make you sick dude?" He muttered before gulping at the death glare he received.
Cursed hearing of his...
He sighed before knocking, seing your face before you quickly turned it away from him and layed down.
"...(Y/n)... Can we talk for a bit?"
.
.
.
"You forgot to clean that place." His uncle muttered while couting some bills as he glared at the bloody wall.
"Why I am the one to clean this?"
"Because you are living with us? Maybe?" His aunt spoke while putting on a necklace of pearls on her neck as he furrowed his eyebrows.
"... You two live well. Why couldn't you help my mom? Or my dad?"
The woman laughed as the man sighed, grabbing harshly on his shoulder and making him turn his front to him.
"Your father was a mere thief that couldn't even provide for my sister. And was her fault to get sick this way, if she hadn't turned out to be such a bitch, agreed to her arrangment marriage and hadn't stormed off with that Kurono guy she would be out of those fucking problems."
His eyes narrowed while clenching his jaw, grabbing the gun his father gave to him before leaving and pointing at the male.
"You can say whatever you want about my dad but NOT about my mom!" He growled as the woman shriek in fear at seing a child with a gun as the man raised his hands up before smirking.
"You dont even know how to use this thing brat."
He quickly took the ammunition he had stolen from his uncle's office and with enormous accuracy he shot it an inch away from his head. The woman letting out a scream again as the male widened his eyes at him.
"My dad at least did a good thing on teaching me how to use a gun at the age of three." He said with anger as he lowered a bit his gun before a bunch of man, wearing suits invaded the house and pinned both his uncle and aunt on the ground as he in fear got hidden behind the kitchen counter.
"You both think is funny taking advantege and being in debt with the yakusa huh?" A much older voice spoked up as he peaked one eye to see a man with white hair glaring at both of his uncle and aunt.
"P-Please sir we were going to pay-"
"Liars." A man lowered one pocketknife onto his uncle shoulder as he put his hands over his eyes as he flinched at the shout of pain it came after "you even went to the cops to tell about our plan in order to some money... and I lost a bunch of capable man and it will cost a millions of yen to get every single one of them out of jail."
"Boss!" He shriek when a man found him "We have anothe-" without thinking a strand of his arrow hair shot and cutted the man's cheek, the poor guy being immobilized and falling onto the floor.
A bunch of guns and males with attacking quirks aimed at him as he trembling picked the gun again and pointed at least of one of them.
"Don't shoot you idiots! Is a kid!"
"Yeah but he is got a gun!"
The man glared at them and in one motion all the guns were lowered, yet he didn't lowered his one still.
"Hey, kid... no one is going to hurt you, relax." He soon directed his gaze at the couple on the floor "Whose is this? I thought neither of you wanted a child."
"Is my sister's son with a thief rat." The man growled as his wife helped him with his missing fingers "That little shit died and gave him to us."
"I asked for his name imbecile." The man growled as his uncle yelped and bowed to him.
"K-Kurono Hari master!"
"... Kurono, huh?" The man looked at him as he still had a firm grasp on his gun "Say kid... you know how to deal with those I see, those these two treat you well?" His gaze fell on his uncles before he shaked his head.
"... How about an offer then?"
.
.
.
"So this makes kinda you and Overhaul brothers huh?" You giggled at the glare he gave to you before he flipped your head.
"You're the worst. I tell you this all shit and-" he stopped talking and gasped when you hugged him tightly, grazing your nails into his back much like his own mother would do.
"I get it Hari, and I'm not mad at you..." you kissed his neck and sighed "Just rely on me more often okay? Instead of being a dick."
"... yeah. I will." He hugged you back as he smirked, at least he knew he had a home of his own. You. You were his home.
.
.
.
(A/n): this was shitty, I know. But it was what came to my mind. Forgive me. I didn't do justice for arrow haired man... ;-;

Survey #383
“the big bully try to stick his finger in my chest  /  try to tell me, tell me he’s the best  /  i don’t really give a good goddamn ‘cuz i got my lunchbox & i’m armed real well”
Ever had a friend online for a long time without seeing a photo of them? Well yeah. Most of my friends are online, and while I've seen pictures of most at least once or twice, some I still haven't. The last time you threw up, what caused it? It was a side effect of a mood stabilizer I started. Any foods from other countries you would like to try but haven’t yet? I'm sure there's something, idk. Do you think the world would be more peaceful without any religion? Yes. Have you ever had a stalker? No. Does it hurt your feelings when people talk shit about things you love? It makes me self-conscious way more than anything. I start to obsess over whether or not the person things poorly or weirdly of me for liking what I like. I just feel judged for liking it, but that's my problem. Do you like it when people give you nicknames? I do, actually. It feels kinda affectionate to me. Do you often find yourself checking out people’s butts? Haha I'm not gonna say it's never happened, but it's not something I make a habit out of for sure. What fandoms are you in? MEERKAT MANOR IS BACK BAYBEEEE, Markiplier, Silent Hill, Shadow of the Colossus, World of Warcraft, Spyro, Wings of Fire, and lots more, honestly. I'm into a lot of stuff, and I don't love in moderation, haha. Are there any fandoms you used to be in, but left? Yeah, like Supernatural, Good Mythical Morning, or Warriors, but it wasn't out of "I don't like it anymore" or anything, I just drifted away. Anything the fans in your fandoms do that pisses you off? World of Warcraft if particular has one of the most toxic fucking fanbases. There are so many goddamn elitists and people who whine about "boohoo WoW is dying" and "omg this game has been trash since Wrath" and yada yada yada and it's annoying as hell. They always find some shit to complain about. Then Silent Hill... ugh. I think people just hop onto the "the series sux after 1-4" bandwagon to fit in with a certain crowd, but that's not the main thing that annoys me; rather, it's the fact the former main admin of the SH wiki made a fucking joke out of us there. He was clearly having personal issues and made a HUGE and utterly ridiculous deal of Silent Hill 4 having heavy symbolism to the main character being obsessed with the bullshit idea of him being circumcised, and it led to a maaaassive thread of us members trying to talk some damn sense into him as he abused his power. He was finally banned by the Wikia staff, but not in time for some gaming websites to publish "news" stories about it because it was just that ludicrous. Now, YEARS later, we still get trolls coming onto the site to try and revive the drama by inserting absolute rubbish into pages or making new ones. Nowadays I'm the main administrator there, and it's fucking embarrassing sometimes. I'm supposed to keep the wiki under control and respected, you know? Ugh, I'll stop. I could rant for a very long time about this. Do you prefer ruffly or regular potato chips? Ruffly. Do you write down your own recipes, or just commit them to memory? I don’t cook. What color do you want to dye your hair? My top three are pastel pink, lilac, and a light creamsicle orange. I REALLY want to dye it SOMETHING. :( How do you like your chicken? Of course breaded (like nuggets, tenders) is my favorite, but I also enjoy is broiled and seasoned well. There's other ways, but because I don't cook, I, uh... don't know how a lot are made lmao. Do you enjoy cheese fries? UUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHH YES. Do you eat refried beans? I absolutely hate beans, so no. What is a food you enjoy, but don’t have very often? A whole lot because a lot of it is from restaurants and we don't eat out all that much. As well, my diet is very narrow just because of how picky I am. Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn? Why? I mean, what are we comparing them for? I think Audrey is fucking gorgeous, though. Marilyn is also beautiful. Favorite fictional world? Uh, I dunno. Do you use lint rollers often? No. Do you carry pepper spray? No, but I want to. Has your power ever gone out for more than a day? I think so. Other than a dislike button, what’s something you wish Facebook had? Hm, I dunno. What time do your parents normally get home from work? Mom can't work right now, but I think Dad gets off around 5PM. Are you afraid to ask people out on dates? Yep. Do you think it’s better to look for love or let it find you? Both can work, but I definitely prefer to let it find me. I feel that *in general* that usually has better results. Have you ever found yourself worrying about commitment? No. I'm a very committed person romantically. Would you get involved with someone if they had a child already? No. Have you ever had a rash from poison ivy? I don't believe so, no. Do you have any chairs in your bedroom? No. Did you watch Elmo as a child? Some, yeah. Do you know anyone who doesn’t eat meat? I don't think so, off the top of my head. When you throw up, do you cry? No, but I'm a whiner and will also shake from fear because I have such a phobia of vomiting. Doing it totally turns me into a baby. Who was the last person to carry you? I couldn't tell you the last person to full-on carry me, but back when I tore a ligament in my foot, my mom kinda had me lifted when she would help me walk. Is it easy for you to accept loss? Absolutely not. I handle it very, very poorly. Have you done anything sneaky lately? No. Have you ever had a rolling back pack? Yes. Who knows you better than anyone else? My mom, probably. Would you ever want to go to Brazil? Sure, if the opportunity came up. Are there any medical conditions that run in your family? A lot, mostly heart problems. What band has the best guitar solos? Metallica imo. Who is the biggest jerk you've ever met? She was somehow my former best friend. Have you ever swerved off the road to avoid hitting an animal? I've never been in that situation, thankfully. What's a charity you would never donate to? I'm really not familiar enough with charities and their practices to know which ones are sketch or not. Have you ever grown your own herbs? No. Do you have any exes you'd consider dating again? Yes. What were some of your favorite classes you took in high school? Art and German. Mythology was fun, too. Do you know anyone with a profession in law? Yeah, I have a cousin that's a lawyer. Have you ever Googled yourself? Yeah, outta curiosity. What's the shortest amount of time you've had between relationships? Like, two days. Part of the reason I left Girt was because I liked Sara. As a child, what comfort foods did your parents make for you when you were sick with a cold or flu? Chicken noodle soup. What's a movie series where the sequel was better than the original? Ha, for some reason Inspector Gadget came to mind. I guess from mentioning my childhood. I was FUCKING OBSESSED with that movie as a kid. The first one's fine, but I love the second one. Does your car have heated seats? Mom's doesn't. What is the strangest pizza topping you've ever eaten? Nothing strange, really. Describe your hometown. What’s it like there? Small and dangerous. Lots of run-down areas. A gang nearly broke into our house once, if that helps you get the picture. What was the last video game you beat? I replayed Silent Hill 2 forever ago. What did you learn from your last failed relationship? It really just taught me that you need to take care of your own mental health before you can effectively handle another's properly and strike a healthy balance. What country does your favorite band hail from? Britain. What’s something on your to-do list that never actually gets done? Finish decorating my room. -_- Have you ever been really passionate about something but then lost interest? If so, what was it? Good Mythical Morning, I suppose. I used to be OB-SESSED. I still adore Rhett and Link as people, they are fucking wonderful human beings and excellent entertainers, I just drifted away from their content. I don't really know why. Do you sleep with the TV or the radio on? No. What’s the worst thing about being male/female (whichever you are)? Menstrual cycles, I'd say. It affects your mood so much, and as someone who's bipolar, it can be very confusing. I like to know why I'm feeling a certain way. What movie has the best special effects? /shrug How many work hours per week is too much for you? I wouldn't know, I've never really worked long enough to figure this out. Can you remember your first day of school? I think I have the faintest memory of it. I know I was very scared to leave my mom (I had absolutely awful separation anxiety from her) and I MIGHT have cried, but I don't really recall with certainty. Have you ever entered a modelling competition? Would you? No thanks. Did you keep any drawings/stories from when you were younger? Most, no, because the level of cringe is LITERALLY unbearable for me. Do you have a safe? Mom does somewhere. What’s the scariest thing to happen to you so far? The breakup. That night was just fucking terrifying. I was so certain my life was over, like the situation was so, so impossible in my head. What was your last dream about? (or your daydream if you don’t remember) My memory's faint, but I just remember I had a nightmare where a LOT of my bones were totally snapped in half. When was the last time you saw a relative? Excluding my immediate family, I last saw my now-departed grandmother and my uncle a while back at a hotel as they were passing through. Have you ever been in a TV audience? No. Are you in any way close to reaching a personal goal? Not really... Do you prefer crosswords or word searches? Word searches. Do you like making collages? Not really. Do you remember any inside jokes from childhood? No. What would you love to learn to do? Digital art, like drawing on a tablet. Do you prefer monkeys or lemurs? Lemurs. Do you watch movies based on the actors or the movie plot? The plot, 100%. Are you more shy in real life or on the internet? I am WAY more shy irl.

Cramps...
Request:  Hi you sweet thing! You write really amazing! Congrats on 200 followers. I wanted to make a Jensen request. Tumblr ask is too small so this ask will be in 2 parta😂 This is kinda based on my experiences. Can you make a Jensen x reader where one day reader doesn’t go on set because her periods have come. Jensen being her friend gets worried and goes to her house. When he goes he finds out that she has been vomiting. Her stomachache, body pain is too much for her to even move. So Jensen Takes her to her room. Takes care of her the entire day (tries to cheer up her mood coz too many mood swings, like movies or other stuff, you add yours here). When in the evening the pain increases a lot so he takes her to ER. It’s a normal thing but reader has to take an injection for the pain. Reader panics because she’s afraid, so Jensen stays with her the entire time. He takes her home and makes dinner. And stays the night, cuddling her even if she was on periods. don’t know if I made sense there but really reading your Jensen stories, I was tempted to read more your work! I know it’s a weird request involving periods and all. Not sure if everyone is comfortable talking about that so, Sorry for that🥺 it’s okay if you say no😅
Word Count: 2666
Pairing: Jensen Ackles x Reader, Jensen x Misha.
Warnings: Period related talk, sick reader, language, fluff, Jensen being an adorable sweetheart, that’s about all.
A/N: As always all mistakes are mine! Feedback is golden! Please do not copy my work!! I hope you guys enjoy this one! I’m not a fan of the title, but my mind was just blank and that’s the best I could come up with after staring at the computer for 30 minutes lol. So go easy on me…
Want More? Check out my masterlist!!

Your POV:
Ever had one of those days that when you went to bed the night before, you just knew tomorrow was just gonna be a bitch? Well, last night when you finally get in from set you just new. Shooting in between pouring rain and in freezing temperatures with Jensen and Jared, you didn't get home until somewhere around three in the morning. Your back was killing you, you were slightly nauseous, and you couldn’t sleep. You knew what was coming, and you knew it was going to be a bad one, so you prayed for mercy from mother nature to whomever was listening, and popped a few tylenol before trying to get some sleep. You had an early call in the morning, and you knew the makeup girls would kill you if you walked into the studio looking like an extra on the walking dead…
You don’t know what time you fell asleep that night, but some time in the middle of the night, you woke up with an excruciating pain in your stomach and lower back. Getting up with a groan you stumble to the bathroom to see that your Aunt Flow had decided it was time for your monthly visit.
“Great! Just freaking beautiful!” you yell at no one, silently hating the fact that you didn’t have a roommate to help you while you were living in Vancouver filming.
You get into the shower, and turn the water on just as hot as you could handle it, letting it beat down on your aching lower back, relaxing your muscles a little bit while you could. Then when the water started to get cold you cleaned yourself up, and got out to change your ruined bed sheets before you got ready to go to set.
You had just thrown them in the washer when the nausea hit you like a wave and you barely made it to the bathroom before emptying your contents of your stomach. Great, it was going to be one of those. The pain that had ebbed away from the shower was starting to come back with a vengeance, and you knew that you wouldn’t be able to make it in to set today.
Picking up your phone you texted Richard the news, still sitting down on the bathroom floor by the toilet. It was going to be a long five to seven days, and it was just getting started..
Jensen’s POV:
It was still cold out as Jensen made his way from the makeup trailer to set, but at least the rain had stopped and the sun was out. That did seem to help some, but the wind was still a bitter cold, too cold for a Texan’s liking, no matter how long he’d been in Vancouver filming he never got used to the cold.
Rounding the corner to the main part of the bunker set where they were going to be filming today, he noticed immediately things hand changed up, and no one had bothered to tell him. Misha and Alex stood in full costume, looking over their scripts, and Jared was talking to a cameraguy in full Sam gear. This wasn’t right, It was supposed to be just Y/N and his coverage today? Why had they changed everything up?
Walking up to Misha and Alex he didn’t even both really with a greeting. He was to annoyed that things had changed yet again, and more than a little concerned as to why Y/N wasn’t here on set. Normally she was here about thirty minutes early to run her lines before they filmed their coverage with him?
“Why are you guys here? It’s supposed to be just Y/N and my coverage today?” he asked, coming face to face with Misha. Misha just shrugged.
“Y/N text and said she was sick and couldn’t come in to work today, so they decided just to film everything that she’s not in and then do her coverage Monday.”
“Sick? What do you mean she’s sick? Did she say what’s wrong with her? Is she okay?”
Misha looked at Jensen like he’d grown a second head. The sudden concern making him furrow his brows as he looked at Jensen, who was obviously flustered over the fact that Y/N was sick.
“I don’t know, she didn’t text me, I just know what I was told. She was well enough to text so I’m sure she’s just fine. Why Jens? What’s the issue? You’re off the hook for the whole day I think. Go home and go back to bed. You guys were really late filming last night and Y/N is probably just tired. Take a page from her book and go home. Take a break for once.”
Jensne took a deep breath, pinching the bridge of his nose between his index finger and thumb, trying to pinch away the impending tension headache.
He had been harboring feelings for Y/N for months. Well, ever since the first time he’d laid eyes on her really. He knew her better than she’d probably known herself.
He knew how she took her coffee in the mornings. The way she chewed on her lower lip when she was stressed, or couldn’t remember her lines. The way she shifted her weight on her feet when she had almost had enough of his and Jared’s shit when they were messing with her.
He knew that she always took a shower before work because in the mornings when they were getting ready to go to set that’s when her shampoo smelled the strongest to him, and he loved every minute of it.
He knew what she prefered for lunch everyday at the food tent before she even got there, and most of the time he had her plate already made and ready for her.
He knew when she was trying to hide the fact that something was bothering her by the tone in her voice. He knew EVERYTHING about her, and he knew that she didn’t just call in sick to work. Hell, the girl came to work with the damn flu. Sickness didn’t usually stop her.
He couldn’t help but feeling a pit in his stomach that screamed there was something horribly wrong, and he had to go and check on her, and he didn’t care how sick she was, he wouldn’t rest until she felt better. No matter what was wrong, he’d be there.
Your’s POV:
This was one of the worst periods you had ever had in your life, the pain was almost unbearable. The cramps felt like they were going to rip you apart from the inside out, you couldn’t stop vomiting, and the slightest movement on your part as far as getting off the bathroom floor did nothing but cause more cramping, and more nausea. So you dozed on and off between spurts of pain with your head leaned against the tub, silently wishing you could at least get a pillow.
You thought you heard someone knocking on your door, but you figured it was just some idiot trying to sell something, so you just ignore it in your sleepy daze. That is until you smelled the distinct smell that was Jensen’s cologne. You'd have known it anywhere, even if you were clinically dead.
Opening your eyes you saw Jensen sink down to the bathroom floor next to you, slipping the hair away from your face that had fallen out of the half assed attempt at a messy bun you’d done getting out of the shower.
“Goodness Sweetheart, you look like you feel terrible,” he said, his deep rumble soft, and his eyes concerned. You should have known he’d be worried when you called into work, but you didn’t think he’d actually show up at your apartment just  to check on you. If you were being honest it made your heart swell just a little that he cared that much.
“Yea, be glad you were born a man, Jay,” you tell him, trying to set up but a wave of nausea crashed into you from the movement, and you leaned over the toilet drying heaving, your arm trying to grip your stomach against the assaultingcramps, feeling more than a little embarrassed that Jensen had to witness this.
“Let me take you to the hospital Y/N,” he said, his warm hand rubbing up and down your back in soothing circles. You shook your head as you leaned back more slowly this time.
“No Jay, it’s not use, this is totally normal for me. There’s really nothing they can do for me. It will pass.”
Jensen narrowed his eyes at you. His adorable eye crinkles showing. If you weren't so sick you probably would have smiled at the concern he showed on his face.
“They can give you something for pain and nausea...”
Throwing up your hand to stop him before he got himself to work up.
“That means shots Jay, and you know how I feel about needles.”
Standing to his feet he walked out of the room for a moment, and you thought that maybe you’d pissed him off and he was leaving, but he returned before you had time to worry too much, minus his jacket. Bending down he scooped you up carefully into his strong arms and held you tight to his chest as he carried you through your apartment.
Laying you down on the bed that had been turned down, he carefully pulled the covers over you tucking you in.
“Well, you’re stuck with me then until you feel like yourself again,” Jensen said, moving over to the other side of the bed, and crawling in on top of the cover next to you, grabbing the remote to your TV on the way.
“Friends marathon?” he asked you, as he pulled you into his side, letting you lay your head on his shoulder and snuggle against him. “I heard you and one of the PA’s talking about it yesterday,” he said with a shy smile when you looked up at him a little amused.
“Jensen, you don’t want to watch friends we don’t have too,” you told him, poking him in the ribs playfully and enjoying the way he deep chuck vibrated through his whole body.
“Hey, I like Friends. Joey’s my boy ” he said as he settled next to you, turning Friends on before laying his large hand over your lower stomach. The warmth from his hand soothing the assaulting cramps a little and you melted into him.
“This okay?” he asked you, watching closely for any sign that he was making you uncomfortable.
“No, this is perfect. You're amazing, Jay. You’re gonna make an amazing husband some day,” you tell him, your eyelids getting heavier be the second, finally relaxing just enough to doze off as you felt his lips graze your hair.
The two of you lay there most of the day watching Friends and cuddling. You couldn’t believe what a sweetheart Jensen was being to you, most men seemed to be grossed out by periods, but Jensen didn’t seem bothered at all.
The only problem was that the cramps and nausea were getting worse. You’d thrown up two more times, and the pain in your stomach was enough to make you want to cry.
The worse your symptoms got, the more worried Jensen got. Finally pleading with you until you’d agreed to let him bring you to the ER. That’s where you found yourself now, laying curled on an uncomfortable ER bed, with Jensen holding your hand and running his fingers through your hair.
“I’m sure they can give you something to make you feel better, Sweetheart,” he said. You could tell he was anxious about the amount of pain you were in, even though you’d told him repeatedly that this was normal for you.
A few minutes later the doctor came in and confirmed what you’d said. It was completely normal, possibly a little overly hormonal induced period system for some women. Pain and nausea were just part of it, but he did say that he wanted to give you a shot to help with the pain and nausea. At which point you started to cry like a little six year old as soon as the doctor walked out of the room to get the charge nurse to give you the shot, and he did your release paperwork.
Jensen squeezed his large frame in the bed next to yours, wrapping his arms around you and pulling you into his chest, letting your cry into his shirt. He lay there shushing you, running his hands through your hair again and repeatedly kissing your forehead, which thanks to your hormones made you even more emotional and more weepy.
“It’s gonna be okay, Sweetheart. Just a little shot, you probably won’t even really feel it, then we can go home and you won’t be in pain anymore. We can cuddle, I’ll make dinner for the two of us, and we can finish our Friends marathon. Or whatever you want to watch. It’s almost over.”
“I hate needles, Jay,” you mumble against him getting more and more upset be the second.
“Hey, hey, pretty girl, I’m right here holding you, it’s gonna be okay. Just hold on to me as tight as you can.” You can hear the nurse behind you, getting everything ready. You hid your face more into his shirt and his arms wrapped around you tighter.
“Okay sweetheart, just a little stick and you can go home,” the nurse said, cleaning the spot with an alcohol pad over that she was going to put the shot. You were shaking, and you felt Jensen lift your head up to look at him, his green eyes that had really no color name searched yours.
It worked. He officially distracted you with just a look. Jensen was always able to do that.
“Okay Hun, your finished! You can go as soon as you sign these papers,” she said, and you looked at her completely shocked that she had already done it.
“See, as long as you’re with me, nothing can hurt you,” Jensen said, kissing the top of your head for what seemed like the thousandth time, making your heart flutter in your chest.
———————————————————-
Less than an hour later you seemed to actually be feeling better and were even walking around on your own. The doctor had given you something for pain and nausea to do you through the rest of your cycle, that much you were thankful for.
“Okay baby girl, you go get in the bed, and get yourself comfortable, I’m going to start on fixing us something to eat,” Jensen said, refusing to let you into the kitchen.
“Jensen, you don’t have to do all that, we can just order takeout.”
Jensen laughed at you. “Baby, I’m not going to make you eat takeout, you've been sick all day and you need a home-cooked meal. You settle your little self in that room let me take care of you.”
You kissed him on the check and you could have sworn you saw him blush.
You did as you were told, getting into bed and waiting for Jensen to come in with his meal, reading through some of your emails and things while you waited. When he entered the room he had a tray of food piled high with all your favorites. You sat there with your mouth hanging open.
“Jay! OMG!! Please tell me some of that’s yours,” you tell him, looking at the feast he’d brought you.
“Hell yeah some of it’s mine,” he said with a wink as you started to dig in, and he made himself comfortable doing the same.
——————————–
Waking up the next morning you felt Jensen’s arm wrapped protectively around you. Rolling over so as to not wake him up you looked at his perfect sleeping figure. He’d stayed all night with you, holding you, making sure you were comfortable, not letting you do anything for yourself and waiting on your hand and foot, treating you like a queen.
Running your hand through his soft hair lightly Jensen hummed in his sleep at you. You took in his beautiful features. His strong jaw, perfect dusting of freckles over his nose and cheeks. The man was gorgeous.
All your life you’d searched and hoped for someone like him to stumble into it, and you never realized what was right there in front of you. Watching Jensen sleep next to you this morning though, after all he’d done for you yesterday, you decided maybe there was such a thing as happy endings after all, and maybe, just maybe, yours was laying right here next to you.

desc: you’d just moved to d.c. full time, a promotion at your publication leading to a transfer to another district chapter, and you were more than thrilled to be there, more than ready to immerse yourself in the world of politics. what you weren’t ready for, though, was how the campaign trail you were following made your heart flutter and your stomach turn. you also hadn’t expected it to be so… gaudy? magenta? – or perhaps, though you wouldn’t hear of it, that wasn’t the campaign’s effect at all.
Y/N RUSHED INTO the apartment, darting toward the kitchen counter as she tried not to lose the balance of soup she had stacked up to her chin. She caught wind of Alex's stunned face from where he stood behind her, still holding the door open to let her in, and gave him a sheepish smile over her shoulder. It wasn't until the cups of soup were safely on the counter that she slowed down.
"Hey, Lex." She turned around, leaned against the counter as she met his eyes. "Thanks for letting me know Eliza and Pip were sick. I got here as fast as I could."
He raised his eyebrows, his face the picture of disbelief as he closed the door behind her, returning to his own apartment. "As fast as you could after picking up," --He leaned to her right where she stood, glancing at the critical mass of food behind her-- "four cups of soup?"
She grinned. "I had to come prepared."
He raised an eyebrow. "Obviously."
"So where are they? Can I come in and see them?" She ignored the sarcasm in his tone as she shrugged off her coat, walking back toward the door and hanging it on one of the hooks where she came in. He nodded toward their hallway, indicating with a smile for her to follow.
"Yeah, c'mon; they're in our room." He started down toward the bedroom as she kicked off her shoes, subsequently rushing after him. "Liza's still not doing so good, but she's definitely better off than Pip. Poor kid isn't himself right now."
"Aw, yeah?" Y/N frowned, her brow furrowed as he looked over his shoulder at her. "Shit, that sucks; I'm sorry. What are they down with?"
"I'm actually not sure, but we think it's the flu." Alex scratched the back of his neck, face wound up into what was almost a grimace as we reached his bedroom. "C'mon in." He pushed the door open, and Y/N walked tentatively into the empty doorway as he entered the room, wearing a wary smile as Eliza glanced over at her, eyebrows raised in surprise.
"Hey, Eliza," Y/N said softly. "How're you doing?"
She smiled, though fatigue was written from her weary brow to the heavy bags under her eyes. "Hey, honey." Her voice was almost softer than Y/N's. "Please, come in, I'm doing just fine."
She sat next to where Philip lay on the foot of the bed, watching Inside Out on what you recognized as Eliza's tablet as he scrunched his nose up, perpetually looking as though he was about to sneeze. "Hey, Pip," she added with an amused smile, and he rolled over, looking bored before his eyes lit up as he saw Y/N.
"Aunt Y/N!" He pushed himself off the bed with a toothy (and toothless) grin, coming over to give her a hug. She swept him gladly up onto her arms, shifting him onto her hip as he latched onto her shoulders.
"How's it goin', kiddo?"
He pursed his lips, shook his head dramatically. "Really bad. Me and Mama have the fluke."
She raised her eyebrows at this, turning with him to Eliza and suppressing a laugh. "Oh yeah? Is that right, Mama? You have the fluke?"
Eliza's small smile waa threatening to become a grin as Philip nodded earnestly. She couldn't help but be endeared at the pair. "Something like that," she agreed, and Philip turned again to Y/N looking very self-contented.
"See? We got fevers and coughs and everything," he pouted, and she matched his expression, looking sympathetic as she pulled him closer. He wrapped his little arms around her neck while her expression softened toward Eliza.
"I'm sorry you guys are feeling so bad." The words were directed both at Eliza and Philip, but their four-year-old's mind seemed long gone at that point, attention drawn back to the cartoon playing on the tablet over Y/N's shoulder.
It was then that Alex came over to Eliza, joining her on the side of the bed with an affectionate smile. "I know. It's the worst." He leaned in to wrap an arm around Eliza's shoulder, pulled her close as he softly kissed her forehead. "I'm really gonna miss you at the gala tonight, Lize." He gave a soft chuckle as their foreheads rested together, and her gaze softened. "It'll be the loneliest in a while. Who's gonna make fun of Jefferson's new, ridiculous, gaudy suit with me?"
She hummed her agreement as she cuddled into his side, sniffing and stifling a yawn. "I'll miss you too." She let out a soft sigh as he wrapped an arm around her, and Y/N couldn't help but smile at the domesticity of the scene, bouncing Philip on her hip. For a moment there was only tender quiet, and none of them seemed to come to until Eliza quietly mumbled, "You should bring Y/N instead."
He raised an eyebrow, redirecting his gaze from Eliza's tired form to our rather surprised heroine. "That's actually not a bad idea. You wanna come?"
Her eyes widened as she realized that yes, the invitation was unmistakably directed at her. "To what, exactly?"
A soft chuckle escaped him at how suspicious she looked, brow furrowed tentatively, and he carded a hand through his hair. "Right, I forgot we hadn't told you about that."
"Washington's having a gala," Eliza piped up, sleep thick in her voice, "It's to celebrate the start of his last year before the next election."
"And why invite me?"
Alex sighed. "I love George, but God is it impossible to throw a good party when you're the president." He pursed his lips, rolling his eyes at the memory. "It's always just dry diplomats and politicians. I wouldn't last the night alone."
Y/N hesitated, lips pressed into a thin line as she considered him; Eliza was quickly falling asleep on his shoulder, and he just stared up at Y/N expectantly, his expression holding no trace of a joke. "Tonight?"
"Tonight," he confirmed, nodding. "It's black tie, but if you don't have anything to wear, you can just wear the dress Eliza was planning on."
"I have a dress," she said quickly, many details of the night still giving her pause. She shifted Philip on her hip. "Would I even be welcome? Like, bringing your wife to a government event is one thing, but--"
"You'd be more than welcome," he assured her with a laugh, his easy smile doing just a bit to ease her nerves, "Don't worry about it. They'll all love you, it'll be a fine time, you'll be fine." Her worries were apparently written across her face, if how he was responding was anything to go by, and he waited a beat before asking, "Are you in?"
She took a deep breath. "What time should I be ready?"
"I can be by to pick you up at seven."
"More like your driver will be by to pick me up," Y/N snickered.
"Listen I have to have a security detail, I'm a cabinet official, and I--"
"How many people have tried to assassinate the Secretary of the Treasury, literally ever?"
"It's an important job--"
"I'll be ready at seven." She raised her eyebrows, amused and waiting for him to challenge her. He rolled his eyes.
"See you then.”
____________________
“WHAT COLOR IS your dress?" Alex demanded over the phone, voice coming out in a rush of static as Y/N had him on speaker, still putting the finishing touches on her makeup.
Getting ready on the fly had proved to be more of a challenge than she expected, having rushed home from Alex and Eliza's, had to quickly deal with the newest scoop on Angelica's love life -- He's wealthy and sweet but is he right for me??? -- and still made time to shower and do her hair and makeup. (The sound of her hair sizzling under a flat iron before it was entirely dry had made her cringe; it was an occupational hazard she wasn't entirely willing to deal with, ultimately deciding to let it air dry.)
She pursed her lips as she looked in the mirror.
"Green," she answered simply. "Why?"
"I'm trying to find a tie that matches," he said, exasperation just distinguishable from her side of the line. "What green? Kelley green? Emerald?"
She shrugged before remembering he couldn't see her and considered it for a moment. "More like a forest green."
A small noise of frustration came through in a crackled huff, and she could hear his hangers squeaking against the rod in his closet. "Alright. That'll work."
She laughed lightly at his reply as she slid on her favorite pair of gold earrings. "It better work, 'cause that's what you're working with. Will you still be here at seven?"
"You bet."
________
HE PULLED UP in front of her apartment complex at seven o'six, a number she would continue to dote on for the rest of the night, in a rather official, tinted-window, black government van.
It was seven o'seven when she saw the text letting her know he was outside, and it wasn't until seven thirteen that she finished hobbling down the stairs in her favorite pair of heels, having clung to the railing going a mile per hour the entire way down. (The elevator was broken, what would you expect her to do, walk barefoot? In the disgusting stairwell? She would have winced at the idea.)
She smoothed out the front of her floor-length dress as she took a deep breath, suddenly feeling very self-conscious as she walked out the door of her building's lobby. Was her neckline too low? Should she have covered up more? Did she look too slutty to be at a state dinner? The Italian diplomats surely didn't show this much skin.
She tugged at the straps on her shoulders as she approached the car Alex was in, silently willing it to hide her from any judgment or insecurity about being at such an event. (It was quite an ask of just a fancy dress, though she supposed some of the responsibility also went to the gold necklace that fell just above her hemline and the heels that made her legs look as shapely as ever.)
Alex rolled down the window with a grin, not even bothering to get out of the car to greet her. "Hey. You look nice."
She'd known him for years and was more than used to his antics by then, but still, she rolled her eyes. "What a gentleman." As she let herself into the backseat of the car, sliding into the leather seat beside Alex as the door fell shut with a click, she gave him a second glance. "You don't look so bad either. Would never have guessed you spent your morning in a petri dish of disease."
He only chuckled. "Are you making fun of me for taking care of my family?" Her smile widened.
"Only a little."
The pair bickered good-naturedly for most of the ride there, the teasing gaining fervor when Y/N learned he had only started getting ready ten minutes before coming to pick her up. Realistically, that much had been clear since he called her about his tie five minutes before he left, but that didn't dissuade her from taking advantage of the information.
Her nerves had thus far tamed themselves, but when they pulled up to the steps of the White House and were ushered through with smiles and recognition, she could feel her heart begin to jump into her throat. What had she been thinking, accepting his invitation? She didn't belong here; her job was to critique the government, not working in it.
"Cool it, Y/N." Alex gave her a look between worried and skeptical, brows furrowed and eyes wide. She wondered briefly if her emotions were painted that blatantly across her face. "There's no issue with you being here; you're my guest."
She rolled her eyes. "Whatever, I'm fine. It's no biggie, just a dinner, right?"
Now his expression was skeptical. "Yeah? You're fine?"
"Mmhmm."
"Every muscle in your body is tensed right now."
"It's the strain of walking in these heels. You wouldn't understand." She earned herself a dramatic scoff at that one, and couldn't conceal her resulting grin as he lead her through the different rooms of the building to where the dinner was apparently being held.
"Right," he said, tone dry. He glanced over at her as he walked, the stress hadn't faded from her expression, and his gaze softened, if only momentarily. "Hey, you know this is gonna be fine, right?"
The unimpressed look she gave was all the answer he needed, reaching out to give her shoulder a comforting squeeze. "I promise. Everyone brings the most random plus-ones to these, for whatever reason. Last year someone brought their son's kindergarten teacher, so now no one gives any unexpected guests a second glance."
"Alright," she sighed, leaning on the railing in her impractical footwear as they began up a flight of stairs. "I just... I'm worried that my being with the press will make it a different story."
He chuckled. "So long as you stop short of whipping out a notebook and full-on interviewing Jefferson in the middle of the ballroom, don't sweat it."
"You just want me to give up an exclusive? Just like that?" The look she shot him was playfully offended, and his grin grew. "I don't feel like you support my career, Alexander."
He rolled his eyes, an amused smile still playing at his lips. "Unfortunately, I'll put your success just below my still having a job in the government."
"You're no fun."
The state dining room was more the size of a ballroom, as Y/N realized when she entered on Alex's arm. Secretaries and politicians, diplomats and economists swarmed the room, all discussing matters she could hardly begin to skim the surface of; everyone there was certainly more important than she -- at least, that was all she could hear running through her mind as she saw the fancy dresses and sharp suits of the other attendees. She suddenly felt very small.
She took a shaky breath, hoping Alex wouldn't notice her swelling nerves. "Alright, where to?"
"There are a few people I've been wanting you to meet." The sentence was presented innocently enough, but there also lay a glint in his eye that Y/N couldn't quite place the intention behind.
"Oh yeah?" Alex ignored the skepticism in her tone, as well as the question altogether as his eyes scanned the fluid crowd before him. Y/N huffed. "Like who, exactly?"
He glanced back at her with a grin as he started toward the wall to their right, beckoning for her to follow. "Just old friends. I have a feeling you'll like them."
She raised an eyebrow but followed him nonetheless, far from sure about what to expect from this. She had to dodge to avoid running head-on into people who looked like they could sue her for all she was worth as he zigzagged through the crowd, and trying to keep up with Alex was quickly giving Y/N a headache. He glanced back just as she slipped by the Secretary of Education, casting her a wary glance as she hurried to join her friend.
"Christ, Alex." She paused after reaching him to adjust her heels, leaning on him for support as she scowled at the red lines that dug into her skin. "Slow down, will you? Where are we going, anyway?"
"Have you met John?" He continued trying to pull her along, even as she hopped and hobbled, trying to put her shoe back onto her foot. She shrugged.
"Laurens?"
"That's the one." His words came distracted over his shoulder as his gaze continued to dart around the quadrant of the room he'd finally reached. His eyes fixed on the man in question, he smiled. "Have I introduced you?"
"Yeah, once or twice," she said, finally finding exactly who it was they were looking for. "Only in passing, though. Don't think I've ever actually had a conversation with the guy."
He ushered her over in a hurry, and she stumbled behind him, preoccupied with ensuring the neckline of her dress didn't dip too far down in her haste.
"John!" Alex called to him once they were just within earshot. The man in question turned with a raised brow, before breaking into a grin upon seeing his friend. They finally reached where he was standing, and Alex immediately released Y/N in favor of pulling John into a bear hug.
"It's been a minute," he said as he pulled away, his smile soft. "How've you been? How's Martha?"
"She's great. We're great, really." John's tone was earnest as he looked back down at Alexander. "What about Eliza? Philip?"
"They're well. You'd be surprised how much Philip is growing up to look like you," he chuckled. "If I didn't know better, I'd have thought you were the father."
"If you didn't know better," John repeated, amused smile tugging at his lips. A pregnant pause followed his words before he cleared his throat, taking a brief glance at Y/N standing stiffly beside them, and took a small step back to address her. "It's Y/N, right? We've definitely met before."
He shook her hand spiritedly, giving her a lopsided grin that couldn't help but elicit one of her own. "Yeah, for sure. It's good to see you."
"You as well." The warmth in his voice and his gaze seemed to be genuine as he glanced between Y/N and Alex. "Remind me how you two know each other?"
"She's Angie's college friend, and now her roommate." He bumped elbows with Y/N, and she raised an amused eyebrow. "We've been pretty good friends for years now."
"Well, I'm glad you could make it, Y/N. I was disappointed to hear Eliza was feeling too bad, but you're an alright substitute when push comes to shove." He shot her a playful wink with his words, and she couldn't help but laugh.
"The stand-in could never be as good as the original, I'm afraid." She grinned. "Anyway, if I were Eliza, I'd also have to be attracted to this one." Y/N shot Alex a disdainful glance, and while he rolled his eyes, John's smile only grew.
"Alright, you two, I need a drink before I can deal with any more of this tonight." He sounded exasperated, but his smiling eyes told a different story. He turned to Y/N. "Can you find us somewhere to sit?"
She briefly turned back to his friend. "Any open seats at your table, John?"
"An abundance."
"Then I've got it covered, Lex." She grinned, and he just rolled his eyes.
"Fine." He shook his head, playing up the dramatics of it all as a small smile still tugged at his lips. "You want anything while I'm gone?"
"Whatever you're having is good." She shrugged. "Open bar?"
He gave her a mischievous smile as he began his route toward the side of the room. "Nah, you're treating."
"What do you mean, I'm treating?" she called after him, indignant, but he'd already moved on, well within earshot but no longer listening. She scowled, turning to John. "How have you put up with him for even longer than I have?"
"Plenty of liquor," he answered, amusement dancing through his expression. "Got any healthier secrets for me, though?"
She scoffed. "If I knew, I'd tell you." Her gaze flickered around the room, concurring with her lighthearted answer as she tried to find the open table John had mentioned. "Where are we sitting?"
"Follow me." His grin was wide as he beckoned her toward the round table he'd sat down at earlier. A few of the seats were populated, but the table wasn't nearly half full yet.
"So, how do you know President Washington?" Y/N asked. She knew this dinner was for close associates and important relations of his (and, well, their wives' sisters' roommates, in her case), and had never been sure from their few encounters quite what John did.
"I was a soldier under him in the war," he answered, scratching the back of his neck. She didn't have to ask what war he was referring to. The conflict with Britain that had stretched to France and other allied world powers had shaken the international community to its core, the American people in particular. It was the worst national confrontation since the Cold War, Vietnam, Korea, or Afghanistan be damned.
She had only just been old enough to follow the war when it broke out, reading the news on her doorstep before her parents could stop her, smuggling it to her eighth-grade classroom to be informed in peace (or really, in war). The memory of its gruesomeness still looming, Y/N nodded, brows knit.
The silence from her seemed to make him uneasy, and the grin once again returned to his face. "Don't worry about it, though. I didn't see too much of the combat. For most of the years, I was only a camp aide."
"'Camp aide'," a voice to their left scoffed. Both their heads turned, and John's eyebrows immediately shot up. "More like "war hero," do not let 'im lie to you."
"What ever happened to humility, Laf?" John shot back, and Y/N's eyes widened, caught between the obvious familiarity of the two men.
"I 'ave never been humble, and look where it 'as gotten me." The man speaking seemed as animated as John, with skin a deep brown and curls that bounced as he laughed, tied back into an untidy bun.
"What, across the ocean from the country you're supposed royalty in?"
"Royalty," he snorted. "Please. Try, disgraced and banished."
John only smiled. pulling him into a hug as he stood up from the table to greet him. "Right, and that's how you got the job as ambassador to the states?"
The other man flashed him a white-toothed grin as they broke apart. "Something like that." As John pulled away, allowing him to return to his seat, he raised an eyebrow at Y/N, glancing back to John expectantly. "Aren't you going to introduce me to your belle amie?"
Y/N didn't speak a whole lot of Portuguese, but she was fairly sure the first word he'd used meant pretty -- or was it French? Maybe Italian?
John gave him a look she couldn't read before saying, "She's Hamilton's friend Y/N. His sister-in-law's roommate."
He smiled behind the rim of the glass he'd returned to, turning to Y/N. "Très heureux, Y/N. Je m'apelle Gilbert, friends call me Lafayette." He paused, drinking in her mildly amused expression, and set down his glass, saying, "Take your pick."
"It's a pleasure, Lafayette." She shook his hand as her eyes scanned the table at which he sat; John had taken a seat next to Lafayette while he and she were getting acquainted, and the far half of the chairs seemed largely abandoned. John beckoned her over to the empty seat by him as she withdrew from his friend.
She pulled out the seat next to him (making a mental note to keep a chair open for Alex, whenever he returned), and turned back to Lafayette, smoothing out her dress beneath her. "So what is it you do?"
The question was clearly addressed to him; he'd caught her eye almost the moment she sat down. "I am ze French ambassador to ze United States. I work out of ze Quai d'Orsay?"
Based on how he was looking at her, she supposed what he said was supposed to mean something to her. Unfortunately, his words hadn't fallen on deaf ears, but on stupid ones. His smile was almost sympathetic. "Ze French state department."
"Ah!" Finally, in English. "That sounds incredible. What do you do as an ambassador?"
"Mostly attend parties and meet beautiful women." His quick response caught her off guard, and while he remained the picture of nonchalance, she felt heat rushing to the back of her neck. Her eyebrows shot up.
"Sounds... like a good job." She couldn't help but swallow harshly. The implication behind his words made her heartbeat pick up, but despite it, her timid smile grew.
"It certainly is." His gaze had zeroed in on her by then, yet she couldn't decide whether it was a good thing as his eyes narrowed, as though scrutinizing her expression in its entirety alongside his playful grin. In the left of her peripheral vision, John raised an eyebrow. "In fact--"
"Would you mind if we joined you?" It was much to his chagrin that Lafayette was cut off before he could take it further; however, it was much to Y/N's relief. Her heart had already jumped nearly to her throat. She turned to face the voice to the right of her.
"Was there nowhere else to sit?" John addressed Mr. Madison and his wife before Y/N could, a cold undertone in his words. His response raised a few eyebrows, though it was annoyance from James where surprise from Y/N. His wife eyed John with alarm.
"We'd hoped to be seated among friends--" His eye contact with Lafayette at that was pointed, and his expression spelled out unspoken apology. "But if we're not wanted--"
"Please, stay." Y/N sent John a questioning look as she cut James off. Her expression turned immediately kind as she met his eyes, seeing how startled his wife appeared. "I could use a few more people who don't resent me just for who I'm here with."
"Thank you, Y/N." Though he did address her, his words seemed more so directed toward John. He paused as he reached for the chair next to her. "I assume this is where your company is seated?"
"Yeah, Alex is just off getting drinks." Surprise painted his features as he pulled out a seat for his wife, exchanging a gentle glance before giving Y/N a questioning look.
"You're here with Secretary Hamilton?"
"Yeah, he's an old friend." She couldn't quite read his expression but knew at least that she felt out of place with how he was looking at her. She shifted in her seat. "Will that... be a problem?"
The hesitation in her words didn't go unnoticed, and he responded with a warm smile, calming her momentary qualms. "No, of course not. Hamilton is a friend of mine, as well. I was just wondering how you knew him."
"Through his sister-in-law, actually." The words left her with a chuckle, feeling awkward to have to explain her chance connection. "She's been my roommate for a long time, and I've gotten to know Alex and Eliza through her."
Upon noticing his head still cocked to one side, she added, "His wife is sick, so he invited me as a plus-one just for the hell of it."
James laughed at that, taking a sip of his wine. "I'm glad he brought you, of all people."
"So am I, to be honest."
He was shaking his head as he set down his glass, smoothing out invisible creases in his jacket as he glanced back to his right. "Hey, Dolley, I don't suppose you've met Y/N?"
"Not in this lifetime, anyway." Her eyes were soft as she leaned across the table to shake Y/N's hand. "I'm Dolley, James's wife. I'd hug you properly if we were standing, but just know that it's implied."
A laugh tumbled from Y/N's lips, her grin lingering as she ultimately withdrew her hand. "Hug noted and accepted. It's great to meet you, Dolley."
"Y/N is a writer for the Washington Post. She's covering Thomas's campaign trail." Dolley's eyes widened at his words.
"Y/N L/N?" She nodded, and Dolley's features relaxed as recognition set in. "Ah, I thought I recognized you from somewhere. I've read a lot of your stuff pre-campaign; you're a great writer."
Y/N beamed back at her. She'd decided almost immediately that she liked Dolly, but that certainly confirmed it. "Thank you so much, that's so sweet of you."
"I do feel sorry for you, though." She shook her head with a huff as she took a long sip of her wine. Y/N's brow knit with concern. "Stuck reporting about Thomas for the next, what, year? Let me know if you need me to cover your therapy costs afterward, dear."
"Careful what you promise, I may just take you up on it," Y/N retorted, and Dolly laughed.
"You were right, James, she is funny." Her husband turned to look at her wide smile with a soft one of his own, subtle adoration resting in his eyes as she hung onto his arm. They were an unlikely pair, Y/N thought as she watched them, their personalities worlds apart, but they seemed to work so well. She couldn't help but wonder how they'd ended up together.
She didn't ruminate long, though, as James lifted an arm to wave across the room, motioning with a smile for someone she couldn't see to join them.
She turned back to Lafayette and John where they'd been discussing the country's terms of alliance with France. She couldn't have cared less about it, quite frankly, but the Madisons' attention was clearly elsewhere, and she wasn't inclined to isolate herself and stare at the table.
Her facade of interest didn't last; the person in question finally reached their table and it would have been impossible for Y/N not to recognize him. Her head whirled around, pulse quickening even as she heard him greeting James. Just her luck. He dipped down to kiss Dolley on the cheek, acting sickeningly familiar with the couple, after pulling James into a hug. His interactions with them were uncharacteristically genuine, in her opinion, and he pulled out the chair next to Dolley to join them at their table, still chatting animatedly with the pair.
It wasn't until Jefferson caught Y/N's eye that she realized she'd been staring, and caught staring, too. His movements slowed momentarily, surprised gaze meeting her alarmed one almost directly across the table, and he raised an eyebrow, expression easing into one of amusement, as if to say, look what we have here.
She blinked, eyes wide.
"Thomas!" Dolley's excited exclamation took them both by surprise, and they quickly broke the gaze they'd held just a moment too long. Heat threatened to fill Y/N's cheeks despite her fighting it down; she fixed her eyes to the red tablecloth before her. Of all people who could've shown up to her table, it had to be him. "Have you met Y/N?"
Her heart nearly jumped into her throat as Dolley broke her train of thought, having been expecting (or really, hoping) not to be dragged into the conversation. Her gaze snapped upwards.
Dolley seemed oblivious to her reaction, though, reaching across the table to squeeze Y/N's forearm with a wide smile. She could only manage a weak one in return. There was a skip as Jefferson met her eyes, his brow raised, and she was painfully aware of every little movement she made.
Finally, Y/N answered for him, turning to Dolley, "Yeah, we've run into each other once or twice." She winced inwardly at how breathless she sounded.
"Twice." She was surprised to hear Thomas chime back in, hoping to just let the subject drop, and he was just on the wrong side of self-contented as her wide eyes found his.
"Oh, really?" Y/N could see Dolley glancing between them out of the corner of her eye, and she swallowed, throat tight. "When did you meet?"
"Just a few campaign events, nothin' too exciting." Though his words were directed at Dolley, his gaze was still fixed on Y/N, and while she swallowed thickly, James laughed.
"'Nothing too exciting.' Care to tell us the story of how you almost ran her over, Thomas?"
"You what?" Dolley's reaction was immediate and incredibly expressive. Her eyes widened as she looked at the man in question. "Now you're on the hook, Jefferson. What's the story?"
His smile mellowed out as Y/N was either too afraid or too stubborn to be the one to break his gaze -- or somewhere between the two -- despite that her heart was pounding all the way down to her toes with how he looked at her. "Just a bit of a logistical mix-up." He grinned as he turned to Dolley, breaking the prolonged eye contact. "I happened to be tryin' to drive in the same place that she was tryin' to walk."
"And he almost hit you, Y/N? Where was this?" Dolley seemed to be enjoying the revelation, laughing, and Y/N had to conclude she was planning on giving Thomas hell for this. She sighed.
"Oh, just off in one of the alleyways between buildings downtown where cars aren't supposed to go." She shrugged, taking a sip of her drink. She'd begun to enjoy this now that it had been turned on him. "Y'know, over where he regularly violates traffic laws."
"Oh really?" James raised an acute eyebrow at Jefferson. "I seem to have missed this part of the story, funnily enough."
"What, was that part conveniently left out when you heard the story, James?" Y/N wore a look of falsified innocence as she looked over at him, and he sighed.
"It seems to have been." He moved his annoyed gaze from Jefferson to Y/N, glare easing as he looked over at her. "You really should've pressed charges, y'know."
She grinned, hardly stifling a laugh at his words, and raised her glass in agreement. "Don't tempt me; I still might."
He laughed, taking a sip of his own wine as he considered her, eyes shining.
Dolley chose that moment to pipe back in, smile inquisitive as she laid a hand on James's forearm. "So, how did your close call with manslaughter turn into you two meeting? Did you not just, I dunno, keep driving?"
Jefferson grinned at that, turning his full attention back to Y/N. "You wanna answer that one, Y/N?"
"Hard pass." Her teeth were gritted as she met his eyes, and he chuckled.
"That was when she blackmailed me into givin' her an interview for her article," he explained, tone matter-of-fact, but mischief danced in his smile. She pursed her lips.
"I mean, otherwise the article would've been about how the Secretary of State has no respect for the law." She had to keep her expression in check with how amused he looked. Anger at this point would do her no good. "Almost hitting an innocent pedestrian wouldn't do much for your campaign; you should consider yourself lucky."
"Oh, I do." Jefferson no longer seemed to be talking about the article, though, his smile bordering on predatory as his eyes bore into hers. Her glare set in with how he was looking at her. He continued, expression easing into nonchalant amusement, "You're doing wonders for my Twitter following."
"I'm glad to hear you're popular online." She plastered on a sarcastic smile, and frustration radiated off of her in waves. The tension between the two was palpable. "But don't expect to gain anything more from me, Secretary Jefferson. The Washington Post sends you all their best."
A beat passed as he held her gaze, his smile becoming smug as his eyes narrowed. "Now, what happened to 'Thomas'?"
Her jaw ticked, despite the thrill that ran down her spine with the edge to his words, as his stare seemed to be burning into her own. How much humor he seemed to find in the situation had her fuming; she had to attribute it to anger when her breath caught at the words.
She held her tongue for a moment, only stared at him, brows raised in livid disbelief, and just when she didn't think she could stop herself from lunging across the table to yank Jefferson by his obviously expensive necktie--
Alex cleared his throat behind Y/N, making her almost jump in her seat. Her heart beat a tattoo against her chest, and Alex looked suspicious as he took the seat to her right.
Now it was him holding Jefferson's gaze, the tension between the two men even stronger yet, with their scowls perfectly mirrored and with both their jaws clenched.
"Picked you up a gin, dry." He didn't turn to face Y/N, despite that it was her he was addressing. He appeared too busy staring daggers into Jefferson's expectant expression, all but ready to risk his job if it meant taking a good, hard swing at him.
"Thank you, Alex." It irked her that Jefferson looked so smug, especially so needlessly, but it clearly annoyed Alex more than only a bit more, and she knew she needed to diffuse whatever sexually charged staring contest was taking place before her. She took the glass from Alex, resting a hand on his forearm until he turned to look at her. "How much do I owe you?"
Though she didn't see it, Jefferson raised his eyebrows at him across the table, disdain looming in his surprise. Alex sent him a glare, saying, "Don't worry, I'll cover it."
"You sure?" Her brows shot toward her hairline; he still seemed preoccupied, but any generosity from him was new to her. "Thought you said I was paying for drinks tonight."
Alex certainly didn't care for the judgment in Jefferson's eyes. He met it with a scowl, sending a shameless glare across the table before he pulled off a smile, turning back toward her. "Seriously, no worries. You're my guest."
There was suspicion deep-set in the words she had to force down, glancing between him and Jefferson; instead, she opted for saying, "Thank you."
There was a tense pause as she brought the glass to her lips, desperately wanting not to be the one who broke it.
"So, Thomas, how's your campaign going?" Dolley's endearing voice again chimed in, and Y/N was torn between being grateful for her breaking up the unspoken standoff between him and Alex, and groaning inwardly as Jefferson began to speak again. And it didn't seem like he planned to stop for a while.
Sighing, she threw back a heavy sip of her gin. It could be a long night.
_____________
"I CANNOT BELIEVE I agreed to come here," Y/N huffed, her teeth gritted and glare dark. She'd dragged Alex away from the table for her third glass of wine (she'd switched from gin after two glasses, having decided early in the night that even Jefferson wasn't worth the hangover). She groaned as she slumped against the bar. He didn't have to ask what was bothering her.
"You're being dramatic." He lifted himself onto one of the barstools next to her, rolling his eyes, and she scowled as she met his exasperated gaze. "I work with him. I've had to deal with this almost every day for years."
She furrowed her brow. "Good point. How are you not dead on your feet?"
He grinned. "That's assuming I'm not. Haven't you been paying attention?"
She swung around on the stool as she snorted, took a long sip of her drink before leaving it on the counter, and hopped to her feet. "Good point. Wanna buy me another before we head back?"
"Buy it yourself, L/N."
"I thought you said you were paying tonight." Y/N plastered on a pout in an effort to stifle the smile that threatened to break through. "'Least, that's what you said when everybody else was around."
"I paid for your ticket."
"I didn't have a ticket!"
"Beside the point."
She scowled, rolled her eyes as she turned back to the bar. "Excuse me?" She shot Alex a final glare as the bartender turned to face her. "May I have a glass of your most expensive red, please? Whatever will do." She flashed him her widest smile, but he just sighed. Apparently working state dinners takes quite a bit out of you.
Alex quirked a brow at her while the bartender went to grab her a drink, and she only shrugged.
"Cash or credit, ma'am?" She turned back to him with the same sweet smile.
"Just put it on my tab, please. It's under the name Thomas Jefferson?"
"Will do." He turned away once again, and Alex let out a surprised huff of laughter.
"And I thought you were about to charge it to me." His expression was amused, though impressed as she faced him, looking rather self-contented.
"Why would I ever do something like that Alex?" She couldn't stifle her grin as she took a sip of her drink. "You did pay for my ticket, after all."
He chuckled. "Of course."
She leaned back on the bar, hesitant to return to their table as she savored the taste of her overly-expensive drink. The atmosphere in the room was warm; she didn't feel nearly as uncomfortable as she had when she entered, yet it exhausted her more than anything. She sighed, brushing a loose hair away from her face.
"Two whiskey sours." Her train of thought was broken abruptly, though, as an unmistakable voice came from her right, and her eyes widened, turning toward the source.
She turned back to Alex with urgency written across her expression. "Alex," she hissed. "That's John Adams."
He raised an eyebrow. "It sure is."
"Do you know him? Can you introduce me?" She couldn't understand how his enthusiasm wasn't matching her own, him only folding his arms disinterestedly.
"Yeah, he's a good friend." He pushed himself off the bar, before pausing. "Why?"
She rolled her eyes, suppressed an exhausted groan. "Alex. I'm a reporter. On politics. In Washington. Knowing the vice president could be a game-changer for my career. Do you have his number?"
"Get it yourself." Her steely glare broke through his annoyed expression, and he huffed. "Yes. Fine, I'll introduce you."
Just as he turned, though--
"Hamilton!" John Adams's jovial voice called a few feet down the bar at him, beckoning him over, and YN's eyes lit up. She had to stop herself from sprinting the, maybe, two yards to her right as Alex escorted her over, though her expression still read as starstruck. "How's it going?"
"It's been worse." Alex's grin grew to match Adams's, and he grabbed his hand, pulling him in for an amiable hug. "What about you? How's the last year of vice presidency going so far?"
"Couldn't ask for better, with Jefferson officially leaving our cabinet." The two men shared a knowing look, satisfaction obvious as Alex withdrew, holding Y/N's shoulder.
"I can say for sure that it won't be the same without him."
Adams snorted, just as his wife emerged from behind him, having grabbed their drinks from the bartender. He accepted his whiskey with a quick 'thank you' and a kiss on the cheek, before turning back to Alexander and Y/N. "Hey, have you met my wife, Abigail?"
"Don't believe so." He leaned in to shake her hand with a warm smile. "Alexander Hamilton. I'm the one who keeps the country from going broke."
"Abigail Adams. I'm the one who keeps the family from going broke." She gave a wry smile as she pulled away, and John scoffed.
"Right. Mr. Vice President over here isn't much of a breadwinner."
"Mm, but he is quite a breadspender." Abigail grinned, looking pleased with herself as she looped her arm back through John's, but he just rolled his eyes.
"And you've met my wife Eliza before, but this is our friend Y/N." Y/N reached out to shake both their hands, trying to contain the awed look in her eyes. "Eliza's at home sick with our son, but I didn't want to spend all evening lonely with our other lovely administration members."
"Tell me about it," John laughed. "It's great to meet you, Y/N."
"You as well, Vice President Adams. I'm... a bit of a fan, to be quite candid. You've done some incredible things throughout your career."
He let out a soft 'aww', as he pulled back from shaking her hands, waving her praise away absently. "Oh, please, it's John. A friend of Alex's is a friend of mine. And I can assure you, I'm a lot more impressive on paper."
"Take him at his word on that," Abigail added, leaning in with urgency, her tone falsely serious. "He means, like, a lot more impressive on paper. Like, miles from reality."
"They get it, love."
"Just trying to assist your point." The couple shared a pleased look, both their eyes shining, and Y/N had to grin.
"It's incredible to meet you, too, Mrs. Adams. I'm sure you're just as impressive in reality as you are on paper."
"She is," John piped in, and Abigail laughed.
"You both flatter me." She rolled her eyes, despite the grin playing at her lips. "And the pleasure really is all mine, Y/N. How do you two know each other?" She glanced between her and Alex.
"We actually go a ways back." She looked over at Alex, brow furrowed as she recalled. "I've been his sister-in-law's co-worker for number of years, and since we've been roommates, I've gotten to know Alex and Eliza pretty well."
"Where do you work, Y/N?"
"I'm a writer for the Washington Post, actually." She bit her lip, not sure of how much to say, nor of whether she could play this into gaining a contact. "I report on politics, and was actually just promoted to my current position covering federal affairs."
"The Washington Post?" Abigail asked, "You wouldn't happen to be the same Y/N who follows the Jefferson campaign, would you?"
She sighed, hung her head with a tired smile. "Don't remind me."
Her words elicited a collective laugh, before John piped in, "I've read your articles, actually. You're a great writer; it's scathing stuff."
"Hey, I might be biased, but my writing is just the facts." She held up her hands in defense. "But thank you, so much. I can't say how much it means to hear you say that."
"Can't help if it's true." He shrugged with a grin before pausing. "Say, are you on his campaign all the way up until the election?"
"That I am. Gotta love long-term assignments."
"'Course you do." He grinned. "Can I... give you my card, have you reach out to me if you ever need a contact on anything? Just, y'know, as a concerned citizen who'd rather not see Jefferson in office."
Her brows shot toward her hairline as he reached into his coat pocket, glancing over at Alex in her shellshocked state. "I... Yes, of course! That'd be incredible."
"Good." John handed her his card with a wink. "Please don't hesitate to reach out. Our democracy depends on it."
She laughed. "Don't I know it."

SHE SPENT THE rest of her evening back at the table trying to make getting wine-drunk off of fancy aged merlot seem as classy as possible, hoping it wasn't obvious when she snuck over to the bar for another (fourth) glass of gin instead. It was unclear whether the stuffy, formal atmosphere was getting to her head or if it was just the liquor, but her strained smile was beginning to melt into fatigue. She needed a rest.
Her patience was running thin as she forced a laugh at something someone had said. She wasn't sure who anymore, let alone what they said, but everyone else was laughing. Her regard for appearing out of place was waning as well.
Her tired hand fell to Alex's forearm on the table, giving it a gentle squeeze to get his attention.
"Hey, it alright with you if I go get some air?" She leaned in as she asked, a sense of urgency in her voice, and he raised a brow.
"Are you alright?"
She strained her smile further, though it seemed only to worry him more. "Just a bit of a headache. Mind if I step out?"
"Go for it." He gave her a worried smile as she stood from her seat, her napkin folded delicately on the table before her, the chair pushed gently out behind.
Her breathing relaxed as she turned away from the table. Her gaze darted all around and through the room; finding the nearest exit had become her first and only priority. The click of her heels against the ballroom floor melted into the clamor of the air. Deep breath in.
She hadn't looked back at their table as she walked, trying with everything in her to retain a calm, collected composure, and it took the full strength of her will to keep her steps straight and under control as she spotted a hallway branching out from the room. Deep breath out.
She slipped out of the room between the mass of gorgeously-dressed bodies, sighing as she reached her first gasp of air that wasn't polluted with pseudo-intellectualism. She lived for politics, but all in all, politicians weren't her cup of tea.
She continued down the hall while looking for somewhere out of sight to rest. For the most part, it was just alternate hallways branching out, a labyrinth designed if only to put an ache in her feet, before she stumbled upon a series of offices. Her eyes lit up.
The first door she tried was locked, but the next was open, and she didn't bother to look for the light switch as she stepped out of her heels. She flexed her feet in her pantyhose as she walked across the cool marble, collapsing momentarily in the chair that sat across from the desk, presumably for meetings.
She simply stretched for a moment, enjoying the solitude. Her eyes wandered across the walls before they landed on a bookcase, a little off to the side but packed to the brim with gilded titles. She glanced behind her out the office window, letting her curiosity get the best of her.
The books that day on its shelves seemed to be about any topic imaginable as she browsed the stacks, from recognizable titles -- Pride and Prejudice, Leviathan, The Second Treatise on Government -- to slightly more obscure ones, not to mention several in French. Whoever the shelves belonged to seemed to have interesting taste. She'd have liked to discuss it with them, she thought to herself as she appreciated the heavy volume of philosophy. Not enough Kant for her liking, though.
The person had even tucked some poetry away. She almost reached out to grab a Sylvia Plath, before a leather-bound volume of T. S. Eliot's works caught her eye. She tugged it out of its tight fit without a second thought, the beauty of the book itself getting the best of her.
The book fell open in her hand onto a particular work of his, its corner dog-eared, the page marked up, and where it met the spine painfully worn. She absentmindedly ran a finger over the annotations, knowing the poem by heart but silently appreciating this mystery reader's take on it.
The book nearly flew out of her hands, though, as she heard the door opening behind her. She jumped back where she stood, unsure how to explain to whoever this was the reason for her being there.
The light he flicked on only powered the lamp on the desk, but it was easy enough for them to make out one another's faces. Her eyes widened.
"Y/N?"
"Thomas?!" she exclaimed, panic flooding her system, "What are you doing here?"
An amused smile settled onto his lips as he entered the room. "Oh, so it's Thomas when we're alone?"
"That was just on reflex, don't take it too personally," she scowled, snapping the book shut in her hand. "You scared me."
"So usin' 'Thomas' is reflex, then, huh?" The way he raised a brow told Y/N that he was enjoying this a bit too much, and she huffed.
"What are you doing here, anyway?"
"It's my office. Least, last time I checked." He nodded toward the back of the sign on the window, which presumably marked the space as his own. She gaped for a moment longer, before pursing her lips, silently cursing her luck.
"God, of fucking course it is." She pinched the bridge of her nose, letting out a shuddering sigh. "Because who else's office could I have stumbled into when I had the entire building's worth of offices here."
"Yeah, it does seem like long odds." He shrugged, innocent expression falling across his features as he walked toward his desk. "Unless, of course, it was intentional."
He couldn't contain his grin as she fixed him with a withering glare. "You really think I'd choose to spend a second more around you than I had to?"
"You tell me." He smiled knowingly. "After all, you chose to spend more than a year followin' my campaign around. Seems pretty intentional to me."
Her huff was annoyed as she once again turned away, eyes scanning the bookshelf to try to find where she'd taken the volume from.
"What're you readin'?"
His voice came from closer this time, trying to get a look at what she'd chosen from the shelf. She eyed him skeptically, but his curiosity seemed to be genuine.
"Your collection of Eliot poems." She held up the book with her words, and his soft grin came in response.
"Good taste," he commented, leaning onto the desk beside her. She raised a brow. She wouldn't have expected him to be much for poetry, but it wasn't an unpleasant surprise. She didn't notice the small smile growing on her face. "Got that one as a high school graduation present. Haven't let it out of my sight since."
"I can tell." She held up the book with an amused brow raised, looking at all the rips and tears, water damage and multiple spine repairs. "It's been worn out."
"It's important to me." His voice was quiet at that, even with his smile, and she felt as though she'd accidentally broken through to something she wasn't supposed to see. A vulnerability she wasn't meant to receive.
She held his gaze for a moment, and despite his words, he looked entirely nonchalant, and she reopened the book to the page in question, glancing briefly down at it. She bit her lip. "Why this poem?" He raised an eyebrow, and she shrugged, simply curious. "The page was bookmarked. And covered in scrawled blue ink. Seemed important."
He chuckled, glancing down at her, and his stare was knowing as she looked back at him. "It is important. May I?"
He reached for the book Y/N was still holding, and though it took her a moment, once she understood his intimation, she immediately passed it over. She had to ignore how her skin burned as her fingers brushed against his. He opened the book.
He paused a moment, running a hand over the aging marks that had been left on the page, staring fondly down at the words inscribed in what was obviously an old book. "God, I haven't looked at this old thing since I packed it away into this bookshelf. Almost can't remember when I forgot about it."
With how he stared down at the book, gaze faraway and smile gentle, Y/N couldn't help but feel like an intruder. The poetry was obviously something personal for him, and it seemed as though she was breaking an intimate moment between him and an old friend, especially with how bittersweet his smile was when he looked back up.
"The poem's about loss. Or change." He sighed, tugging at the corner of the paper absentmindedly. "Or leavin'. It's gotten me through a lotta hard times; I used to read it almost every day when I first started college. Eliot always seems to know how to say what I don't."
"Yeah," Y/N breathed, though breathless from the immediate proximity, "He has a way with words, huh?"
Thomas's grin immediately returned as she spoke, him having been broken from his melancholy reminiscence, and he looked down at her with his eyes gleaming in the low light. "You a fan, sweetheart?"
She couldn't help smiling at his words. "I have a casual appreciation."
"And that's why you chose this book out of the hundreds I got scattered around this office?"
Again, the laugh his tone coaxed from her was involuntary; she felt unusually comfortable with his playful demeanor (too comfortable, worryingly comfortable), and she shrugged. "Fine, call it a bit of a fixation." He stayed quiet, just raising an eyebrow, and she hesitated, searching his expression before she continued, "I've been writing poetry since high school, and he was a pretty big influence on me. I actually almost got a tattoo of some of his writing when I was in college."
"Yeah?" His smile was inviting, now, and she found herself feeling vulnerable this time around. "What'd you wanna get tatted?"
"I never decided," Y/N chuckled, before pursing her lips. "I was never decisive enough -- or brave enough -- to actually go through with it."
"Shoulda done it." Thomas moved to put the book back onto his shelf, brushing against her shoulder and leaving Y/N alone at the desk. She was glad he couldn't see the way she shivered at the contact. "All this isn't gonna last forever, y'know?"
"I s'pose so." She folded her arms, grinning. She found his conviction amusing, but at the same time, his words rang true. "Maybe I'll go back to get it done someday, live on the edge a little."
"You should." He turned around with that, having found somewhere to fit the book back in through his jigsaw puzzle of a shelf, and found himself nearly toe-to-toe with Y/N, where she leaned back onto his desk. Her pulse jumped, but she didn't move.
"I dunno." Her voice returned more quietly, unfolding her arms to prop herself up on the mahogany table. "I think I'm a little too afraid of the consequences. I don't wanna..." She swallowed thickly at the way he looked at her, only growing closer. Her tone was measured as she continued, feeling her pulse quicken as she finished, "do something I'll regret. I'm not a reckless person, Thomas."
"Sounds like you need to learn how to be brave sometimes," he chuckled. His easy nonchalance was only putting her more on edge, and she grew more and more certain that the distance between them was no mistake. "Stop worrying, let yourself live."
She pulled her feet in closer to the table, drawing herself to her full height, and as she could've counted his eyelashes in the little distance between them, she was no longer sure they were talking about her tattoo.
"If you only ever focus on the consequences, you're never gonna be able to live in the moment." She let out a shallow breath, entire body tense. "Relax a little." His grin was wide, the look in his eyes wolfish. She could hardly breathe.
His hand came to rest at the side of her jaw, his thumb on the slope of her chin, just below her bottom lip, and she looked up at him with undiluted anxiety in her gaze.
"Thomas." Nerves were evident in her voice, fear mingling with anticipation, but she didn't try to stop him, and he chuckled.
"Relax." The word was hardly a breath as he leaned in toward her, before pausing with his eyebrows raised, giving her plenty of opportunity to push him away, tell him how out of line he was. She bit her lip, searching his eyes for some kind of a motive, but all she saw were his dark eyes blazing into her own, felt his calloused skin cradling her jaw.
She didn't push him away.
Her eyes began to flutter shut, body slowly relaxing under his touch, and she could feel his warm breath dancing featherlight across her lips, his chest pressing against her, hips pinning her against the wooden desk. His other hand drifted down to her waist.
The next sound came from the hall.
"Thomas!"
Y/N immediately tensed, eyes wide and meeting his own panicked stare, faces still just millimeters apart. When the voice moved to a hand jiggling the brass door handle, her hands moved to his chest, frantically pushing him away to try to maximize the little distance there was between them during the little time she had. His hand had just begun to move from her cheek when Dolley burst through the door, smile wide.
Immediately, she began to look nearly as startled as they were, though she still had claim to not being in such a compromising position.
"Oh! I-- Thomas." She froze for a moment, gaping at the pair. "Y/N! I.. I'm so sorry! I, ah, didn't mean to interrupt anything... between you two, I was just--"
"Oh, no, no, no." Y/N immediately walked Dolley's apology back, sliding out of Thomas's grasp as she scrambled aside. "No, I-- You--" She sighed, taking a moment to regain her bearings. "This is not what it looks like."
It's exactly what it looks like, she thought, though, jaw clenching in spite.
"No, Dolley, really, this, ah..." Thomas trailed off, looking to Y/N for assistance she didn't know how to give. She was just as panicked as he.
"Don't worry about it," Dolley said, immediately trying to retreat back through the door. "I... This... I'll forget I saw this. It's fine."
"No, Dolley!" Y/N lunged after her, catching the door and risking a glance backward as Thomas rushed out with them. "I swear, we were just headed out. Nothing happened, it wasn't--"
"What were you lookin' for me for, Dolley?" Thomas's voice had somehow regained all of its composure, something Y/N couldn't understand with how frazzled she felt. "I just stepped out to check on somethin'."
Her gaze was still skeptical as she looked at him, and then spared a glance over at Y/N. "There was just someone asking about your campaign, and I figured you'd want to talk to them." She left it at that, her voice shaky.
Y/N let them lag behind her as they walked, though, picking up her pace frantically. She wanted to remove herself from the situation as quickly as possible, and she tried to focus on finding Alex while suppressing the words which threatened to emerge in her mind.
Thomas Jefferson had been about to kiss her.
She shuddered at the thought, taking a deep breath, trying to find some semblance of level-headedness.
Worse yet, she had been about to let him.
The thought sunk in her chest.

For the one word asks - Peter + "drift"
CW: Whump involving a minor (character is 16) - although no direct physical harm is done to him during the drabble. Sickness, isolation, referenced shock collar. Captor bonding. Referenced abuse at the end.
There was an ache that settled into the boy’s bones and resolutely refused to leave. It dug itself into the marrow and lived there, a pounding, throbbing pain that was with him whether he was shuffling through the hallways with a handler at his side or curled up in his room praying to fall asleep just so he didn’t have to feel it hurt any longer.
He went to training, and the scrubber and broom seemed to fall out of his hands, and he kept missing when he tried to pick them up. They punished him for it, in all the ways they punished the ones like the boy, with their black sticks and the shock collar around his neck and with their hands at his hips and his face pressed into the floor, but the pain inside his bones was worse, after a while, than the pain they could inflict on him.
Eventually, they left him in his room.
He was dragged out to the bathroom and the showers, but left otherwise to lay on the cold tile shivering in his thin white shirt and black shorts, curled in around himself as tightly as he could get to stay warm.
Handler Todd was the first one to care that he was sick.
Todd had been gone for two weeks, on vacation with his daughters - he told the boy all about it, they took a trip to Yosemite National Park, and the boy didn’t know what that was any longer but the words sounded sort of familiar, anyway. The boy got sicker and sicker and while he was sick, he thought about Todd, and how much he missed a kind touch and a nice voice, and he hoped Todd would show him photos when he got back, the way he’d shown him photos of Disneyland.
When he heard the soft beeping and the ssshhhh-click of his door unlocking and opening up, the boy didn’t move. He didn’t look up - the white light hurt his eyes now, and he kept one arm over his face all the time, desperate to find some kind of darkness to hide in.
“435689, you up?”
It didn’t matter. When handlers spoke, you were awake, whether you actually were or not. The boy made a soft sound that he’d meant to be words but the words didn’t come, and stirred a little, keeping his hand shading his eyes as he slowly looked up, wincing at the sharp stab of pain in his head.
“Oh, shit. You okay, kiddo?” Todd glanced over his shoulder, then shut the door behind him, dropping down into a crouch near the boy. “You look like hell.”
Did he? The boy hadn’t seen a mirror since he’d been brought into the Facility. He didn’t know what he looked like any longer. His eyes felt like sandpaper and he knew he’d been sweating, off and on, sick-sweat smell that needed another shower but he’d already had his shower, he wouldn’t get another one for a couple more days.
When Todd took his hand and slowly moved it away, the boy’s fingertips dropped onto the cold tile, and he sighed in relief at the press of Todd’s hand to his head.
Oh, sweetie, you’re burning up. No school for you mister, it’s cartoons on the couch and some good old-fashioned chicken noodle soup. Get the Tylenol, Greg-
He groaned at the spike of pain in his head.
“Kiddo?”
“Mom, I don’t feel good,” The boy said, softly. His voice sounded weirdly far away to him, as if hearing himself from a distance. “I think I’m sick.”
There was a silence, and Todd withdrew his hand.
The boy whimpered and tried to grab at it, to pull it back. No one had touched him in days because he might be contagious, and he was alone in his tiny white room until they used the catch-pole to make him go to the showers or the bathroom and he just, he missed it so much, he just missed someone touching him even just a little bit.
Even the ways that hurt would be better than being alone in here hurting by himself.
“Stay right here, kiddo. I will be right back, I promise. I promise you.”
Todd pushed to his feet and was gone, and the boy’s pleas for him to stay were ignored and then unheard.
The boy drifted, for a while. The world was flat white light and white floor, white walls. He was sweaty but he shivered at a cold that would not cease, drying sweat on his skin only for it to grow clammy and gross again moments later. His hair stuck to his forehead, flopped around in greasy clumps. He couldn’t curl up tightly enough to be warm. He couldn’t cover his eyes well enough to make it dark. He couldn’t sleep or stay awake, and all he could do was drift.
Don’t you worry. I’ve already called the doctor, we’ll get you in by noon. I’m sure this is just some kind of flu or something, honey, I’m sure of it. But you have to eat something.
When was the last time the boy ate? He had no idea. He’d started throwing up the Facility shakes and they’d stopped giving them to him. All he got now was water. At least the water stayed down.
He had no idea how long Todd was gone.
He was pretty sure Todd was probably just him seeing things from the fever, anyway.
But then there was the ssshhhh-click again, and Todd came in with a bag in one hand and something big rolled up in the other. He let both hit the floor and dropped back into his crouch. “Okay, kiddo. Can you sit up for me, please?” He reached out, hands on the boy’s shoulders, and with effort they got him back up, leaning his back against the wall, tears running down the boy’s face from how much it hurt to move.
Greg, I think he needs the ER, he’s really badly off. What’s our copay?
“Mom, I n-need a doctor,” He groaned, and cool hands settled his head back a little bit, let it rest against the wall. “I’m so sick.”
“I know you are, kiddo,” A voice sound, not his mother’s voice. He remembered her smell and her voice and her hands, but he couldn’t remember her face. “I know. Look, medicine first, yeah? Just drink what’s in this little cup.”
He drank. It tasted like flat grape soda made thick into syrup and he nearly gagged on it, but the hands gave him water to wash it down with. Then he was dipped forwards again, and he cried more at the ache, but something infinitely soft and warm wrapped around him and then was pulled together at his front, and he managed to crack his eyes to look down.
A blanket, soft fleece, and already he felt warmer in the chill air in the white room. The boy ran his fingers back and forth over it, looked slowly up through eyes bleary and blurry with tears and the ache, and saw Handler Todd watching him with concern and what the boy thought must be real affection on his face. “I can have this?”
He’d never had a blanket before.
Never been good long enough to earn one.
“Sure you can, kiddo. Just til you heal up. Now, you’ve got medicine - that’ll take down your fever in a little bit. Then I brought you what I give my little girls when they’re sick.” He pulled a six-pack of something out of a bag, and the boy stared at the little blue bottles. “It’s not… great, but these have a bunch of vitamins and shit, you need that. Technically it’s kind of a nutrient shake for toddlers who won’t eat, but hey, food is food. And also, this.” He pulled out another six-pack, and the boy knew Gatorade even though he couldn’t remember having had any in his whole life. He felt a thin smile find its way onto his face.
“You brought so much for me,” He whispered. “Is it, is this just for me?”
“Just for you, kiddo. I ran home and picked it up from our food stash in the house.”
“Cool. Th-thank you,” The boy said, and took the Gatorade the man offered him, drinking its cool sugar-sweet flavor in little sips that somehow, miraculously, stayed down like water. “Can… can I see a doctor?”
Todd sighed and sat down next to him. “I asked, they said no. Not sick enough.”
The boy blinked at him, still sipping the Gatorade, holding it in both hands like it was precious. “If I… if I get sicker I’ll be dead,” He said, softly.
“No you won’t, you’re probably past the worst of it by now.” Todd shrugged. “Just keep hydrated, and try to drink two of those little Pediagrow things each day. I’ll get you some peanut crackers once your appetite’s back. Just takes time, this flu is all over the place in the Facility right now.”
The boy wanted to argue, but he’d used up all his energy in the words he had already said. Instead, he pulled his blanket closer and leaned sideways until his head rested on Handler Todd’s arm.
They sat there like that for a while, until Todd said, “Want to see my pictures from Yosemite?”
The boy smiled and looked up at him, grateful Todd had come back, that he cared that he was sick, that he had had fun on his vacation with his family. The boy didn’t have one any longer. It was nice that someone else got to.
“This is what you do for your kids when they’re sick?” He asked.
Todd laughed, pulling up a photo of the sunrise over mountains. “Sort of. My babies lay on the couch watching cartoons all day.”
“I think I got to do that, before,” The boy said.
Todd glanced at him and then shrugged. “Maybe. But you don’t remember any of that, right?”
There was a warning in his voice, an edge. Todd was still a handler, and memories weren’t allowed. The boy quickly shook his head, and settled in to look at the photos Todd had taken of places that looked so terribly familiar but the boy could not remember ever having seen.
***
Later, when he is sick - the whole first year he was sick all the time - he’ll lay on his mattress on the floor in the tiny little room he calls his own, and Dex will be the one who sits with him.
The room isn’t any bigger, but it stays dark when he needs it to, and it’s his own. The sickness lasts just as long, but there is medicine right from the start, and there are other people who care.
Peter knows to be grateful for this, even when being sick doesn’t stop her from leaving bruises on her bad days.
When Peter cries for Todd in his sleep, Dex holds his hand and knows it is a handler he is calling for. It is Dex who combs his hair back from his forehead and lays the blanket over him when he kicks it off. It’s Dex who tips the little cup of syrupy liquid to his lips. It’s Dex who feeds him Gatorade and saltine crackers and Sebastian makes him chicken noodle soup to sip from coffee mugs he can barely hold in shaking hands.
Still, he cries for Todd, in his sleep.
He can’t remember if there was ever anyone who cared before him.

And They Were Quarantined
Laying out on the couch, Chris stared up at the ceiling wondering how in the hell did he ever get into this situation. Of all the things that had happened to him, this is by far the worst experience he ever had.
The world was now in the grips of a pandemic but not from a virus engineered to be the perfect weapon that would turn the living into the dead. No, it just happened to a virus made from nature and had jumped from animal to human.
And then he and Wesker were suspected to have caught it when they had been close proximity to one person ill with the virus.
So here they were self-quarantined in his home because the hospitals were full and it was for the best else they spread it. Governments around the world had enforced lockdowns and the city he was in was no exception to the rule.
But to be trapped here with Wesker? God, he hated it.
After capturing him and taking him back, the B.S.A.A. thought it would be a good idea to use Wesker as a means to gather information of the other up and coming bio-terrorist groups. Wesker had been fitted with a collar that would shock him with thousands of volts that would outright kill a human. In his case, it would incapacitate him with the virus still lingering his system albeit weaker than it was before.
Uroborous had been burned out of his system so that was a plus at the very least. Still, a slightly stronger Wesker running amok was not in the plans for everyone so they had decided to stuck him with Wesker as they figured an already supposedly sick B.S.A.A. agent could watch him too.
Speaking of Wesker, he heard shuffles and soft noises coming from the other side of the room and turned his gaze to see Wesker watching some video on his laptop with a blanket curled around him.
“You got the chills or what?” He asks.
“I’m fine. It’s none of your concern.” Wesker replies back.
“It is if you’re going to start coughing and sneezing on me.” Chris shoots back. “Honestly, you would think your virus would be the hot shit and be able to beat back a normal virus for once.”
“Chris-.”
“Seriously, it can give you super healing, super speed, strength and endurance, and even enhanced senses but when it comes to a virus that give flu-like symptoms, it can’t even beat that. Your virus is a failure.”
“Chris, shut the hell up before I make you shut up.”
“Then have fun getting electrocuted.” Chris said, daring the man to do it.
Gritting his teeth, Wesker turned his back on Chris turning all his attention on the video not wanting to argue any longer with the brunette.
“…Have you already taken your shot?” Chris asks then.
“I did. You don’t have to concern yourself about me.”
“I don’t. I just don’t want you ending up dead in my apartment because you forgot to take one of those injections for your virus.” Chris says, rolling his eyes. But deep down, he was quite concerned. Despite hating the man, there was a part of him that still cared for the man. He never stopped loving the former Captain and he hated it.
“I’m bored.” Chris mumbles.
“Why am I not surprised?” Wesker scoffs, having heard Chris with his sharp hearing.
“What are you even watching anyway? It’s not about ‘How to Conquer the World 101’ is it?”
Now annoyed and on the verge of losing it, Wesker whirled ready to give Chris a piece of his mind when suddenly there was loud music playing outside. So loud that it boomed all throughout the neighborhood.
“What the hell?” Wesker growled angrily.
“Let me check.” Chris went over to the balcony opening the balcony doors and there he saw the neighbor on his balcony from the apartment across from his playing some loud cheery music and acting as a DJ.
Everyone else had also gone out and some were recording him or dancing to the music.
“Hey hey hey, guys! I know everyone can’t go outside because of this pandemic but that doesn’t mean we can’t party it up here! So have fun!” The man shouts and starts playing the music even louder.
Chris couldn’t help but laugh and decided he should join in the fun. It beat staring up his ceiling all day. He starts dancing on the balcony, leaping up and down as he bobbed to the music leaving a very bewildered and annoyed Wesker.
“Chris, will you get back in here and shut those doors? Its loud and the music is jarring.”
“Sucks to be you I guess. This is the most fun I’ve had in days!”
“Well you can have fun when you shut the damn doors! The music is hurting my ears!” Wesker roars. The loud music was jarring to his hearing and he clamped his hands over his ears trying to block out the music.
Seeing pain etched on the other man’s face, Chris felt a bit guilty and decided to come back in, shutting the balcony doors close behind him.
“Sorry about that.”
Wesker sighed and then got up, letting his hands fall. “You were bored… I can’t exactly blame you for that. You’ve always needed something to do else you go nuts.” Wesker states.
“You… remember?”
“Of course I remember, Chris. You were like this super active puppy bouncing around unless I give you duties.” Wesker said raising an eyebrow to that. He may have betrayed them but he had been their Captain. He knew all of their quirks and habits both the good and bad.
This made Chris blush red in the face and his heart skipping. God, why did he have to be like this? Wesker just remembered yet hearing him say that he remembered him made his insides turn all gooey and filled him with warmth.
“…Do you still have feelings for me, Chris?” Wesker questioned the younger man.
Oh here it comes now. The moment of truth. Wesker would know if he was lying so Chris had no choice but to come clean. Taking in a deep breath, he nods meekly.
“Yes. Even though I still hate you, yes. Yes I still do have them.” He mumbles.
Silence filled the room and Chris felt his palms start to sweat and his heart started to pound as he grew more nervous from the lack of a response from Wesker. He shouldn’t have said anything. But Wesker would pry it out of him regardless.
And then, Wesker took a step closer towards him and leaned down pressing a soft kiss on his head.
“I still hate you too. But… I never stopped. Those pesky feelings… never went away.” Wesker confessed softly.
Chris blinked as he tried to process what Wesker said. Despite everything, Wesker still… cared about him? He couldn’t believe it. Yet, lifting up his gaze at the older man he could see that Wesker was telling the truth in those red eyes. No longer hidden by the dark shades he wore, he could see the honesty in those eyes despite the cold front.
Smiling like an idiot, Chris couldn’t help but chuckle at the hilarity of the situation. “Leave it to a pandemic to make us confess our feelings huh?”
“Shut up, Chris.” Wesker mutters and leaned in this time capturing his lips instead.
Unbeknownst to them, one of the neighbors were recording them and had uploaded this online.
Jill was not happy. Not at all.
“AND THEY WERE QUARANTINED!” She yells to Barry over the phone as she made her way through the hallway passing the two people walking by.
“Oh my god, they were quarantined.” Rebecca said melodramatically to Piers, much to Piers’s bewilderment and amusement, both of them knowing fully well whom Jill was referring to.
