Hello! Do you think Yuzuru will appear in a bad light in the Javier documentary? (Or like in a shady way, that they don't say bad things about him outright, but just suggest it, and manipulate people with the "poor Javi" agenda...) Like, I don't know where you exactly stand with Javier, but my opinion shifted about him so hard after what he pulled last year in connection with the Olympics. He talked about Yuzu's fall as a "fs specialist", saying stuff like Yuzuru was overdaramtic, he fucked up the jump and just used the hole as an excuse (I'm paraphrasing, obviously, but he actually said this). I watched the original spanish too, ha absolutely was throwing shade at Yuzu. His previous actions seemed shady in this knew light too: he complained after Pyeongchang that he should have been second and Shoma was overscored (f ing not!), and right before the medal ceremony announcing that he will retire so that the whole thing would be about him, because he wasn't satisfied with 3rd... Calling in intverviews after retirement Yuzu an acquaintance, when they were supposed to be the biggest friends... I don't know, I think he was always just jealous of Yuzu and trying to use him for fame. He seems shady. His skating was OK (((not better than Shoma or Yuzu, comeon!...))), but he's a slimy dude, and more people should acknowledge it, I think. (Sorry, this turned into a rant more than a question...)
@anon I don't know if this is the kind of "answer" you were hoping for and ranting about something that is on your mind is fine with me, but in this case I don't share the view or adressed worry...
I don't think Yuzu will appear in a bad light in this. Why would he? First Javi isn't the one to create this he is the subject, so the narrative is created by the creator. And 2nd the focus of the documentary is Javi, not Yuzu and Javi's relationship, so what sense would it make to throw shade at other skaters who are included as compatriots and "friends"? I also question if Yuzu was really specifically interviewed for this documentary or if he is just included as part of Javi's story.
For starters I don't think there is any bad blood between Yuzu and Javi. They appeared happy alongside each other at FaoI and the backstage stuff doesn't show any bad mood. I just think they just don't have much in common nowadays apart from the sport and didn't meet much in the years after Javi's retirement.
I am actually quite neutral towards Javi. I liked his skating fair enough (I have seen him live and he was a very good skater who can emote and connect well with an audience) Javi appaeared to be a lot more on the socializing site in TCC, also appears to be outgoing and from the things I know he was going out with others from TCC. So his personality seems vastly different to Yuzu's.
About Yuzu's and Javi's "friendship": According to Javi and Yuzu himself Yuzu wasn't part of the group that went out for dinner after practice or who did much socializing with the other skaters. Yuzu himself said that his focus in Canada was always on training and he didn't go out just back and forth from training. So when I read that I thought that sharing the ice was the connection between Yuzu and Javi and this was their common ground where they shared mutual experiences and this brought them closer to each other. But imo their view on their friendship has been very different from each side. Imo for Javi Yuzu was always one of his skating friends, not THE best skating friend. I don't think there was bad blood in any way though and obviously both profited from one another skating wise and tbh it seems to have been enough for both of them. The narrative of the "best friends" was one that fans (and shippers) created and not one that Yuzu and Javi actually articulated as one at least not to my knowledge. They always showed respect to each other, showed happiness sharing the ice, they have been close as competitors but they were also rivals competing for the same goals and happened to have very different personalities, I am sure it wasn't always easy or always pleasant but it doesn't mean it was no friendship or fake.
(little sidenote about views on friendship: Let me just tell you from personal experience that some ppl call others friends far more easily than others. I call very few ppl friends and it's not meant negative towards anyone else if I don't count them it doesn't mean the relationship I have with them is fake, it's just that I view friendship differently than some others who call almost anyone they spend more time with friends. I don't mean to put Javi or Yuzu into any of these categories but my personal experience showed me that ppl expect different stuff from friends and as long as everyone is happy, what's the harm?
About Beijing: I don't like what Javi said about Yuzu and especially not how it came across. However I think that ppl were a lot overdramatic about Javi's comment with the hole at Beijing Olympics. Javi could have been a lot more diplomatic in his answer and it wasn't nice to accuse Yuzu of using the hole as an excuse and I am not sure why he voiced it like this. But I don't particularly think that Javi directly accused him of lying just that he thinks the hole was used as an excuse. (some may see it still as lying but I don't) I don't understand Spanish so I cannot say what words exactly Javi used and if ppl already formed an opinion it's hard to trust Fanyus translations of that matter. So as I didn't read anyone neutral it's hard to fully comprehend Javi's comment and to me most Spanish comments sound shady so I wouldn't judge that by the tone. My only explanation for Javi's words is that as a competitor himself he also dealt with holes in the ice his whole career just like every skater hence he thinks it's an excuse to use. He was asked for his opinion, he gave one. It doesn't mean anyone has to agree. Tbh this "cancel Javi culture" was getting on my nerves. And even if I do think Javi's comments were shady (from the stuff I know about it) I think it's not our place to judge if that has any influence on their relationship/friendship. We don't know what they talk about behind closed doors and to call him a fake friend after everything else nice he also said about Yuzu, also at Beijing, imo is far fetched for my liking.
As for Shoma and the Pyeongchang Olympics: The truth is that if the technical panel would have called Shoma's 4Loop as underrotated Javi would have won Silver. I can admit that as a Shoma fan though I do think that the placement was fine. But admittedly they could have switched places and it would have been fine with me too. So in a way him saying that he could have gotten Silver is not wrong, maybe a bit arrogant, but it's also honest...I also think you have to take into account the way he was asked about it. Both times I am aware of him saying he could have gotten silver the interviewer was very keen on receiving this particular answer with compliments and a way of asking where he couldn't quite say anything else. It's not like he brought it up himself.
As for the situation before the medal ceremony in Pyeongchang: At this point when they got the medals he wasn't aware of that judging "issues". I don't think he was unhappy with his medal in this moment or is unhappy overall. I would also give Javi the benefit of the doubt about him telling Yuzu he would retire in this moment. Emotions were high in this moment and I think he may just have realized they would share a podium for the last time. When Javi later spoke in a documentary about this moment he had tears in his eyes and was emotionally overwhelmed still. I don't think you could fake that. I think this situation is something we cannot fully understand as simple fans. Interpretating it as Javi grabbing for attention is far fetched. The attention at this moment was on all 3 of them, mostly on Yuzu, but each of them wrote history for their country that day. If all this situation was perceived at this moment as rivals sharing an emotional moment and the hugging as positive, when in Sochi or Vancouver the men podium did not show any kind of connection to each other on the contrary for example Plushenko was even outright disrespectful towards Lysacek by getting on the Gold spot first in 2010.
I don't know what Javi should be jealous of about Yuzu? That he got Olympic Gold and he didn't or that Yuzu won more medals? Hm...it doesn't appear to me like that at all. I don't think Javi used Yuzu for clout or fame in his career. Javi made himself a name in his home country and Yuzu is not that big of a name in Spain to attract more attention than Javi imo (skating is not a very popular sport in Spain). Also Javi made himself quite a name in the skating world by becoming multiple European and World Champion before Yuzu's name was on the scale of popularity it reached after Pyeongchang. Javi didn't post pics unnecessarily often with Yuzu on social media, I didn't see him talking about Yuzu more often except when he was asked. So I don't know how he can be viewed as using Yuzu for attention but I am also not aware of everything he said.
Overall I think you made a lot of negative assumptions because of the negative way you view Javi. I see that stuff you mentioned can be interpretated in that sense and I don't know the truth either, but I'd rather give ppl that I do not know personally the benefit of the doubt. We should be aware that the view you shared or I shared are only our interpretations with no proof of truth. We do not know Yuzu or Javi personally, we don't actually know what kind of relationship they had and there is the possibility it changed over the years, could also be that they have been friends and now grown apart, could be that Yuzu is aware of that "hole" comment and didn't mind, could be that he doesn't even know it. We can assume a lot of stuff...I like to stick to a more neutral or positive view on stuff. What does it do for me to think this negatively about a skater or a relationship that is none of my business to judge? Who cares about what we think about Javi and Yuzu, what matters is what they think about each other and how they perceive their relationship be it friendship or anything else.
And going back to the start if Yuzu would appear in a bad light in a documentary about Javi...it actually didn't even cross my mind that this would be a thing to worry about. The focus of that documentary is Javi's career, Yuzu will be part of it but not the center of the story. (maybe my own post made it sound like Yuzu is a focus but what I read about it, it's not a focus at all.) So I don't think you would have to worry about a negative impact on Yuzu.
___
Sorry for the wall of text, I was not sure if to post it bc it's actually not related to anything atm and I know answering would take quite a while, but maybe it makes a bit clearer on where I stand with my view on Javi. So I hope you can make use of my opinion in any way...
I also don't want to adress it again, but you may ask if any of my text was unclear. Javi is not really a skater on my radar much, but if I see Javi and Yuzu content I will share it. Also Pyeongchang was peak figure skating and it will remain my favorite Olympic podium.

Okay, my chirpetry of the skating and the costuming thereof will be all over the place today because I'm watching shit out of order, or I should say, I'm prioritizing events based on my level of giving a fuck. We're starting with the pairs, it seems like.
French kids #1: His outfit I'm not even gonna bother with, but her dress has been filling me with rage ever since I first saw it, especially since this isn't the Corpse Bride program. I'm calling it Dresse Macabre. Whose idea was it to a) make her look naked and b) embellish the dress with... ribs? Especially since - didn't this boy's previous partner retire because of an ED? I'm questioning the decision making all around, particularly hiring Gui as choreographer, since he's done some real stinker pair programs that never came together technically for the team. He should stick to ice dance.
French kids #2: Bruno is such a dish and I so want him to succeed, but this team has a bit less potential than the previous one, and he'll need to do some serious work to get them where they need to be. That twist looked like it could be a quad some day. His styling was so Morganesque that it gave me a bit of an ick, and her dress was so cute... from the bust down. Mismatched mesh is usually a supply chain issue, but the sleeves are a choice and such an unnecessary one at that. Mark here with a masterclass in classy commentary - yes, they do need to spend time with a ballet instructor, you're so right, Mark.
Anna and Poje Manuel: The costumes were a bit predictable but at least they fit the music. By Italian pair team standards, they're best-dressed, honestly. There's a Duhamelness to her, and I don't mean it in a bad way - she's really working out there on the ice. So nice to see someone point their toes in a lift, it's a lost art! The way the bottom of his vest was flapping around and cutting him in half was a bit distracting, but what I love is how we're seeing the Italian pair field build up because they've reached critical coaching mass. I loved their step sequence in particular. Ondrej is doing some great work, they have potential.
Danny and child: An East of Eden program in 2023 - that's what we're being subjected to. Fine, whatever. I thought it was going to be Riverdance, judging by the costumes. Do you understand my disdain for boatnecks on men in this sport now? Look at that thing puffy thing flopping around. From afar, it all looks so Christmas-y. Her hair and accessories are cute and the dress is fine, but uninspired and underwhelming, and again with those skating dress pentagrams. I don't understand why this pairing happened, particularly because there have been partnerless pair boys her own age in the U.S. recently that she'd at least have a future with. They have some nice movement quality but they've been overhyped and overscored.
Tria: They did so well! But there are more important things than being clean, and I fear they haven't gotten that memo yet. My concern is that this is their ceiling ☹️. The lack of transitions and his inability to perform some of the turns is going to hold them back, especially going up against gritty teams like Deanna and Max. Their programs are fine but too similar to what they did last year, and they needed something extraordinary this year to make them stand out and move up. They needed to go to a superstar choreographer like a Lori or a David to get whatever political boost they could get, they might not get another opportunity of an open field like this again. Alison seems lovely, but she's a base value coach and all her teams have the same issues and the same limitations. They need a harder throw if they're going to be a factor. The costumes I kinda hate and I know I'm being harsh, but the dress is too similar to one Ev wore ~4 years ago and I'm assuming it's the same designer because the girls always have a wedgie problem and the guy's costume is always perfunctory. It's frustrating because I feel like they're capable of so much more and they don't know it, and everyone's waiting for them to break into the top tier, but they don't know how. I know this was a W for them but I think they have more potential than they're even aware of. I hate to criticize because they clearly slayed, but it was more of a function of the state of the field than anything else. I just want them to soar. Anyway, Vanessa in shambles, good for them, please don't Mike it up tomorrow!
Mi gente Latino: Please get ur shit together on the jumps and throws because you are beautiful! I love me some Paganini. The color of the costumes is delightful and I'm kinda digging her classic pairs dress for its simplicity. So here's the thing about dressing pair guys - you don't need to use tricks that make the guys look broader - they already are. He needs a longer, fitted, untucked shirt, he doesn't need the sash in the front, or the cummerbund, or the awkward depth of the V, or the flappy random-length sleeves. Idk, they need to send them to Oakville or somewhere to figure out their elements because I'm aboard this struggle bus with them and I want it to be a party bus instead. Please medal here because I just can't.
Kovalevs: Why are the Kovalevs? Like, srsly, why are they? I'm really struggling to find something constructive to say so I'm just gonna keep my trap shut, I'm sure they're working hard and everything. I want to burn their costumes for heat.
Sara and Nicco: I'm trash for this team, which is why some of the things they do irritate me so. This program is so snoozy and so schmaltzy, I checked out multiple times throughout. The appliqués and stoning on her dress are truly random, and it looks like they borrowed his shirt from the local decommissioned opera house. His pants need to be a different color. I'd give them completely new outfits, they're so pretty, they look like they stepped out of a movie and they deserve movie star-worthy costumes. And can we please figure out the wedgie issues already? It looks so painful! I like the balayage but it's so yellow and inexpertly done. Another great team that needs just a liiiitle more elevation of the presentation and music choices to be stunning, this is all a bit below them, they have this classic pair quality that I'd been yearning for for so long and I need them to be contenders, you know?
Anyway, on to my love/hate discipline, the dance!
Oh my gosh, Fashionista Nonny, I've been sick as a dog, and had a full nyquil induced hallucination sequence that I posted this and added comments. I can't remember what those were, so I'm just going to post for the people, because you're such an icon!

The RD scoring made me so angry that watching the women's free felt like a chore. Like, in what world do C/B beat the Italians and the Canadanes technically??? She doesn't get into the ice, like, at all, she's basically drifting. I felt the same as you about G/F, this is the first performance of their RD that I've enjoyed and watching their feet was one of the highlights of the event for me. However, the Canadanes delivered the better overall package (although his free leg is admittedly weak). C/B were so painfully boring to me that the only reason I'd have them in 3rd here (with the above 2 teams being 1st and 2nd) is that the other teams were worse. And I'm sorry, but as much as I like Lilah and Lewis as people and find them entertaining, they have no business being in this conversation and the only thing their overscoring can achieve is put people off. P2 are unwatchable to me, G/Pa were good but his costume and her hair issues were distracting, the poor girl spent half the program brushing her hair away from her eyes. They can deliver wonders with the right coaching team, which is why I'm extremely meh about them this year. The Lithuanians were the best I've seen them do the RD so far, given that the theme doesn't suit their natural movement style. C/P were good, this was kind of a median performance for them from what we've seen this year but there's less of a gap between them and G/Pa than what was scored. I can't with any of the French teams, with L/B her back is so inflexible that they'll be really limited in what they can do elements-wise and their packaging is very Euro-retro. I don't find the Finns too offensive but she just looks so fragile to me, I can't focus on anything else. Taschlers were on fire. Of the rest, I enjoyed the Ukrainians' progress a lot. Do NOT get me started on KanaDai and their scores/calls, though... I need them and Marina to go tf away already, that was hideous. And omg that poor Svinin Zhuk team, the sheer cringe...
Italians won in BV over C/B, Canadanes got slightly less because C/B got level 4 for the midline. But I have to say, while I think the Italians and Canadanes are the two best teams in terms of edge quality and their basic skating skills and I'm for sure not a technical specialist, I did think C/B were strong in the RD and tbh the current rules for levels are so contrite that who even knows at this point. I do not agree that she doesn't get into the ice, she's not the strongest but I think she improved a lot as well (Igor legit did nothing with her).
I 100% agree that G/F had such good footwork today, like again I'm not a techincal specialist but watching it live even before the levels came up I knew it was superb, but I also agree that Canadanes win overall, Nikolaj's free leg is the thing that always bothers me but it also improved a lot this season so kudos to him. I really think that Canadanes deserved at least 3rd.
F/G are for sure the weakest of the top 5 (though today not sure I would even have G/P above them in the RD) but people will hate them no matter what. Once people decided they figured out Lilah's family tree they also decided to hate her in one of teh ugliest ways I've seen in the fs fandon and god knows I've seen a lot of shit in my days. Their overscoring is annoying but again, it's not as bad as people make it be.
G/P were borderline unwatchable to me as well, but as I said I'm very biased because of my strong dislike of their RD since the second I saw it, in a see of bad fake latin programs they somehow managed to have the worse, and we fucking have wicked games latin and Adele latin this season so it says a lot.
Green/Parsons as you said were distracting, his costume is fine to me, her hair not so much, I like the improved speed but they are very sloppy in their footwork and keep losing levels. As @saucylittlesmile said, CPom with 5th highest BV but 10th overall is super frustrating but that's why I believe that if they can get better speed and keep the levels they will make a push. I still think the best outing of the RD for CPom was 4CC, I also hope they can attack the FD because I need them over 112 and over 114, like get a SB/PB.
French as I said suffer from bad packaging this season and Gui's choreography and vision for them. They were edgy and fun last season, this season they are barely noticeable.
FINs are also a bias point for me, between her being so fragile looking, them hopping their twizzles and not getting dinged for it, and her wide open mouth that is somehow considered interpretation, I just can't with their scores, they are a 72 team, not a 76-79 team.
R/A I love, strong outing for them and they are even stronger in the FD id they can skate it calean (which means not falls, not twizzles fuck ups, no choreo lift fuck up like it happened 2-3 times already).
Taschlers were great fun and they have power and speed for days, but they too suffer from sloppy footwork - to be 9th with a pattern level 1 bothers me.
Ukranians are really developing nicely, it was smart to switch the Conga they used at the end of the RD to Hip Hip Chin Chin, it works way better.
Also liked the Estonian, I bow down to Solene for competing and looking better than a lot of teams who didn't almost die at the start of the season.
And I have a soft spot for the Australians, they fucked the twizzles here but I think they have a lot of potential tbh.
Legit don't even know who are the Svinin/Zhuk team but it's ironic how Stepanova/Bukin dumped them this week for Zhuin's politicking (though I'm legit shocked they are thinking about returning given the ban and the fact Stepanova just has a secret baby)

Rostelecom Stage 3 Entry #5
I will say more about this when I eventually redo my bio, but we're going to talk about this anyway. As much as I sympathize with how bad it is in Ukraine(Nazarova/Nikitn especially. I am going to miss them terribly) I am DONE with this suspension. I miss Petr. Mikhail(my other Russian love) might end up retiring before the suspension is even over. So many Russian pairs and dance are breaking up because they don't see a future in staying with Russia if the suspension keeps going on. The competition inside Russia is getting even more and more cutthroat and not everyone can escape just by switching representation. We need a new solution. I don't know what it is, but we need one.
Junior Short Dance
Kurnosenko/Varlamov
Thoughts: the parts of Fedor’s shirt that were see-through. That was awkward looking. The stationary lift was pretty though.
Senior Short Dance
Pasechnik/Blinov
Thoughts: I liked the way they were able to time the first lift so that it flowed well with the music.
Lazareva/Prokofiev
Thoughts: I knew Angelina was going to grow into a beauty eventually but WOW. Woman crush alert.
Khudaiberdieva/Bazin
Thoughts: Liza. She’s always been a beauty to me. I miss her long hair but her legs are gorgeous.
About what's up at the top. I know this isn't a popular opinion. I know Russia gets overscored. But if my love of ladies figure skating started with Michell Quan then my love of Ice dance started with Bobrova/Soloviev. I admit it, I have a Russian bias. I fully acknowledge that the situation in Ukraine is fucked up and someone has to answer for that but does it have be the athletes?

I thought I hated Eteri & co before, but that’s nothing compared to today! First they forced a minor to take illegal drugs, and when found out, they left the child alone to face the journalists! Look at these pictures! A 15 year old! Forced to  hide her face, desperately clinging to a plushie! And not a single adult anywhere! Just anyone, any-fucking-one, just to put a comforting hand on her shoulder!
I’d be the first to say, Kami didn’t deserve most of the scores and medals she got - way too overscored, though potentially talented. She has been annoying me by being promoted as “the next Olympics winner” for the past 3-4 years. I kept thinking “has it all been decided years before the competition even took place?!” and disliked her even more. Not her fault, her coaches fault, RusFed fault, PR fault. But there you go.
BUT! Like Kamila or dislike her, it doesn’t change the fact that she’s a child, who has been physically abused, given suspicious substances and then left alone to face the vultures!
I’m horrified. I saw these photos an hour ago, started crying and I’m still unable to stop. I can’t even imagine what the poor girl is feeling now. Devastating! Shame on every adult who left this child alone!

My fucking villain origin story, istg.
Like holy shit, I mean... Imagine being Wakaba in this situation! Other people have said it before and I’ll say it again: Imagine narrowly missing out on the Olympics once, then spending the last few years being told you’re not good enough to keep up with the Russians, then spending all that time struggling and learning a 3A... and when you finally make it to the Olympics, land that 3A and skate the short program of your life there, you get scored almost 10 points behind a skater with the same program content, except that skater:
- has worse skating skills that you
- uses cheated jump technique
- isn’t nearly as good of a performer as you
- had two mistakes in their SP: stumbled and almost fell on the 3A landing and the combo looked really shaky, too
- and is literally proven to have doped.
Like holy shit, I’d be furious and I understand why Wakaba was furious. I know that Kamila’s always overscored to hell and back, her scores are literally in a whole new dimension of overscoring, but 82 with an almost-fall and that combo? I’m not trying to shame her for struggling under these circumstances, but there’s no way in hell that should be her score.
If this sport doesn’t go through some major reforms SOON, there’s literally no saving it.

you know what's so awful about so many of us thinking eteri intentionally held kamila away from the podium? if this was her plan then why THE FUCK did kamila go through this shit in the first place? why did all the other 29 girls go through it? the worst part is i want to think no way, i know this sports is corrupted already but there's no way for this level of manipulation of the scores. but then i think if eteri could give her students bonus points, she could also intentionally make them have worse points then usual right? because a lot of people were thinking even as kamila was failing there was still a big chance of her being 3rd. she got the scores she deserved but WHEN ELSE did she ever get the scores she deserved? we all know all the eteri girls are usually overscored so why give her the standard treatment now? how can we believe there wasnt any intervention in all of this? im so tired and confused idk if any of this makes sense

I really, honestly, have to keep reminding myself to Stay Out of any figure skating fan spaces. I've been avoiding that drama for 15 years. (But I want the gifs and vids and stuff and I keep slipping.)
Lots of getting shit off my chest under the cut, ignore me.
It's so reminiscent of stan/pop idol culture but with the added spice of people wanting to prove they know more about skating and can identify more flaws in skating than everyone else.
It drives me absolutely nuts to see people SIMULTANEOUSLY talk about jumping difficulty being overscored and ALSO criticizing people for enjoying programs based on performance and showmanship and not, like precise perfection of foot placement or whatever they are on about atm.
Like if you want to promote more artistry in skating, don't attack people for focusing on emotional responses over tiny technical details. And if you hate the focus on jumps, perhaps you should stick to ice dance. But trying to do all of that at once, just....argh.
There's also so much ignorance of skating history and HOW WE GOT HERE, with the way scoring has changed since 2002 and how that has driven the development of the sport to the point it's at now. There's just so many fans who weren't even alive back in the old days of judging that they don't understand why things are the way they are (whether for good or ill...it's debatable.)
Like me, back in the day, I was drawn to skating for the artistry and I resented the people who won based purely on quads, back when not all winning men were doing quads. BUT ALSO I think impressive jumps are fucking impressive and I'm enough of a skate/snowboarding fan to appreciate "spin a whole lot is cool" and also really really fucking difficult.
And like, if you can't just fucking chill out and enjoy people performing at the very edge of human ability and let other people enjoy it as well, why is this so much of your identity?

Woo. I got VERY worked up during the men's free skate Olympics 2022. I have been waiting for this moment for 4 years. I spent most of the last hour screeching. I felt more emotions in one night than I have in years, and now I'm bright red, my head is pounding, I'm sweating, generally feel terrible. My blood pressure is probably through the roof.
Jason was robbed. How did they justify giving hanyu that high a score? He fell multiple times and his artistry and presentation were worse than normal. Again, Jason was robbed. Almost everyone BUT Jason was overscored in some way, yes, i know. I will be staying out of fs fandom drama. Congratulations to two time olympic singles medalist uno shoma. Loved his costume. Donovan Carrillo was fantastic and I wish him the best. What the fuck was nathan wearing and why?? Why does he always do this??
Anyway I'm gonna lay in the dark with an ice pack on my head and listen to soothing music and try to sleep at some point tonight.

The way figure skating used to be my safe zone tag on here, and now all I see is hate (masquerading as : it's not Kamila's fault, I wish the best for her).
Can we realise the overscoring didn't just start now! Newsflash, Kamila and Anna, especially, have been overscored constantly, just like others.
Anyway, all I care about is Kaori 10s across the board skate, Sasha landing all her quads, Young You & Yelim Kim clean skate. 🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️
No, I won't be watching, as this whole development (as expected as it is) has left a shitty mark. Maybe a lot of people can do the same, instead of whatever the fuck this outpouring of hate is.

team event day 1:
- boyang 4Lz!!! shame about the fall though, it looked painful.
- shoma… I take back what I said about hating the red costume if it gets you the 3T combo. just skate like that in individual and it’ll all be fine.
- nathan was very emotive and had good interpretation today, it seemed like he connected in a way he didn’t at nats, even the SS were a bit better. overall the score wasn’t too egregious relative to the rest of the scores at the event (ie he was overscored but only a little more than everyone else).
- hubbell/donohue in first is interesting. nikita twizzles flopped (was his back acting up?), but s/k had the best blues. still h/d deserved win though, their midline stsq fucks
- koko were… koko, but somehow got lucky and weren’t the worst. good for japan’s team medal!
- rikuryu robbed. k/f had nothing on them besides passport
- the last two pairs were so stressful but seeing s/h and m/g one after another really makes the difference clear. glad s/h got to keep their well-deserved WR but m/g being so close with that bland program when mishina can’t even skate does not bode well for the individual event.

catching up on the team event from this morning before the mens sp tonight, pairs down two events to go
-the less i say about j/r the better, at least they were over with first
-RIKURYU MY BELOVEDS!! they were completely stunning!!! and holy fuck the way riku saved that landing, literally bowing down in awe at her control and thigh strength
-m/g's fall looked rough and he looked super shaken after, i do genuinely hope they're okay. but completely seperate to that good god that overscoring 🙃🙃🙃
tlr; if i just dont think about j/r's existence we're summing up the pairs free as 'not as bad as it could have been'

Skate Canada's pushing of Piper and Paul was penny smart and dollar stupid. At least I think they woke up towards the end of the season and we'll see more investment in Marjo and Zak moving forward.
I think C/B will def retire, P2 could go either way (they will if they're smart, their criminal overscoring gave them the wrong impression and Canada needs a young team to be able to move up), FB/S will stay if they're able, and I'm pretty sure the Italians will continue. The only thing that could throw a wrench into things is if Russia is allowed back in - they'll be aggressive and they'll push for a podium finish to secure spots (otherwise why would they be making StepBuk contintue?). So the only medal I can see F/G potentially squeezing out is a bronze this upcoming season. If the situation continues like this, I can easily see P/C try to come back because these teams are truly holding the door open for them.
As for the Finnish team, we have to look at it from the perspective of how Finland has stepped in to host events and these medals have sort of been their repayment for it. The best thing about it is that Pirihara get to go to Europeans and Worlds next year. We also have to look at how the different feds are trying to court Italy because it's hosting the upcoming Olympics. The Finns are with an Italian coach, a lot of teams/skaters are training in Italy, so on and so forth. What's interesting is that it looks like the Russians are trying to adopt the Montreal model and moving all the teams to Zhulin to concentrate power (I'm 98% certain that's where Khuda/Bazin are going). There are too many unknowns atm to say anything for sure, but in terms of who will cement themselves within the next 2 years as the team to beat, my money is on LaLa - they have the talent and the tenure.
Yoooo I was right! Khuda/Bazin to Zhulin! Lmfaoooo if he can't get skaters from multiple other countries to come train there, his dream of being Russia's response to Marie-France is dead. I thought he was considering retirement after he got pummeled in the team event? I wish he'd just go tf away already.
As mentioned, I fully tend to believe all top 3 are sticking around. Though I will stan both Madi and Piper if they opened those 80s spotify playlists just to fuck with fs twitter, that will be hilarious tbh.
Not doubt Finland stepped up in a big way, and I also do think T/V are a good team, but their scores and especially the GOE does not match what is being shown of the ice and that's my main criticism. Like they have great lifts but was their combo lift the best of the season? Hell no, their twizzles are often horrible, some of their moves are basic, and the themes they use are repetitive. That should be reflected in the scores.
Also agree about the Russians, I legit fear their return, men is tolerable but the rest of the disciplines are legit suffering tremendously from their presence as much as it's unfortunate to admit as I don't like generalizing about skaters from the same federation this way. But no way in hell should they return, not while they are still state-funded and institutionally doped.
The russian federation is 100% trying to make Zhulin as a copy of I.AM, it's basically I.AM if they were racist, abusive, and sucked at choreography and packaging. They are now sending most teams to him and I won't be surprised if Krylova's team will be convinced to move to him as well. And once he will have top 5 Russian teams and Russian is allowed back in, they will push for teams from Italy, Georgia, Spain, and so on to go to him as well until he will become a dance hub like I.AM is and increase his political force. And this might be the worst development of them all (maybe tied with having Eteri and her minions ruin women skating again, and having Russian pairs doing shitty programs with sbs 3Lz and quad throws and winning stuff). Sigh this is depressing.

Is it bad if I no longer feel joy watching Anna’s skates? I don’t hate her, and I would never hate a skater for being overscored, but with the crazy favoritism all I can think about is how rika and kaori got lowballed to hell and back. But what does my enjoyment even matter? Whoever the ISU’s current champion is is going to win anyways. She has my congratulations, but this competition leaves a bitter taste.
you're allowed to feel any way you want. not enjoying a skater's skating is normal. no one should make you feel bad for simply not feeling enjoyment. it's your feelings. and youre not even directing any of it against her; youre perfectly fine. in fact, in most sports, resentment toward your favorite athlete's rival is normal, provided that it doesnt cross certain boundaries. figure skating fandom is just weirdly controlling at times.
and feeling bitter about the double standards is normal too. it's a sport, so we naturally expect fairness.
to be honest, i feel bitter too. youre not alone. it gets very tiring seeing such amazing talents get robbed over and over again. (karen and kaori especially deserved better than what they got from the judges, fuck this fake competition lmao)
all i can really say is that your feelings are completely understandable and they matter.
on the bright side: the technical and judging panels for this worlds was weird. im pretty sure it was all western countries. in a way, 2021 worlds was like a worst case scenario, with all the bad skates and completely white tech and judging panels. i dont think it'll be as bad in beijing. i think. im trying to be optimistic lol.

Honestly sooooo fucking tired of listening to Fanyus bitch and moan about the olympics. Im honestly tempted to just post Fanyus DNI everywhere
Like im tired of this whole idea that when he does poorly, it’s never his fault. “Oh there was a hole in the ice that’s why he did bad” “oh the other skaters were overscored it’s not fair” “oh the IOC hates him that’s why he does so poorly” Like fuck off LMFAOOOOOO Just admit that his programs weren’t as strong as they could’ve been and that’s why he didn’t do well. Stop trying to find other reasons for the fact that he didnt podium.
And it’s like, why aren’t y’all talking about how impressive it was that he made it to 4th place anyways??  This was only his 2nd comp this year AND he was skating with an ankle injury. That’s INCREDIBLY impressive imo. To even be able to place top 10 let alone 4th with all of that. But of course that’s not good enough for y’all. He should’ve won gold for y’all to be happy,
Also the way that some of y’all were so FAST to slander Javi for even remotely suggesting that maybe the hole in the ice wasn’t the main reason for yuzuru’s score after the SP (which, btw he still scored over 90 and placed in the Top 10 of skaters). Like it’s almost laughable how y’all went from “uwu javi is the only that gets yuzuru, we love to see them supporting each other” to “FUCK JAVI, He’s a liar and a snake, think about how yuzuru must feel” likeeeeeeee honestly y’all need to GO SOMEWHERE
