I've had this idea tumbling around in my brain about Swing singer and pianist Hob who gives special strip shows to select clientele after his performances.

Then I got a cold and proceeded to use the time to do some more painting in my new sketchbook 😊

Because I enjoy making myself sad apparently I've decided to headcanon that Dream's whole "making it rain when he's sad" thing started out as a self-soothing gesture.

Like when he was young (or, y'know, young for an Endless) he would get upset and unconsciously make it rain because he loves the rain. He would listen to it patter against the palace walls, or go outside and enjoy the cold, clean air and the water against his face, maybe splash in a puddle or two if no one was looking, and it would help him clear his head and center him and then he felt better.

But then, he overheard and/or maybe someone said to his face something like "oh thank GOD you're feeling better so the rain's finally gone, it was so dreary/depressing/inconvenient/annoying/etc" and Dream was like. Oh. I did something Wrong. I'm being a bad ruler. It doesn't matter if it makes me feel better it's more important to take care of my subjects and make sure they're happy.

So Dream tries his very very best to metaphorically sit on his hands when he's feeling bad but it's hard, it's not something he's fully in control of, and it actually gets worse because now instead of enjoying the rain and feeling better fairly quickly, he feels guilty and frustrated and ashamed which makes him feel even worse which makes it rain more and it turns into a vicious cycle.

I'm not sure if he tells Hob all this or if Hob just puts the pieces together himself, but I think he starts being very open to Dream about how much he loves the rain too (and he's not lying or anything, he really does love the rain, he's just a little louder about it when Dream is around). I think he also gives an impromptu lecture about the value of stimming and how people should respect it (under the guise of something with a student or something idk) and maybe Lucienne and Matthew get recruited to help too, and I haven't figured out how it ends but it ends with Dream learning to enjoy the rain again and wait shit oh goddammit now I have another wip fuck me

America's Suitehearts, episode 127:

'The Man that Eats Colour meets the Luckiest Man Alive'

When Donnie the Catcher loses all his colour, the Horseshoe Crab ventures into the graveyard to find the source of this monochrome mayhem.

Below is a review of the episode from the blog DoctorBBlog.org, a website that fell inactive after Mr. Benzedrine was introduced into the show:

This episode marked the introduction of 'Mr. Sandman' in the show. I think it only aired once and got loads of complaints from parents that said Sandman had terrified their children. They pulled the episode from rebroadcast but kept Sandman as a character, retconning his inability to control his colour-eating powers by the next episode- it was like he'd gone under loads of character development offscreen.

I've been searching for a copy of this episode since I started my Suitehearts collection, and I finally found a tape at a yard sale last week. None of the databases online talk about the musical number at the end- this episode contains the only song without Donnie since his introduction- it's weird to see a song without the usual ensemble.

Like every episode, I can't find any behind-the-scenes info- I was specifically interested on how they achieved the monochrome filter over Donnie- maybe it's similar to how they did it in the Wizard of Oz? Either way, the original producer is still responding to my emails with denials that the show even exists past episode 20, but I know it was never cancelled, and I will get to the bottom of what the hell is going on with this show.

I assume Sandman's colour-eating was supposed to be a metaphor for mental health- it felt like the actor wasn't really clear on the character motivations, though. It reminds me of Donnie's first episode, too- both of them seemed like they thought they were acting in a thriller as opposed to a kids show. It was freaky, too, like Sandman's fear in the scenes of not being able to control his powers felt really genuine. Uncomfortably so.

I'll upload more screenshots later, but I thought the scene of Sandman realising he won't drain Crab's colour because of the latter's luck was too sweet not to share early. I'm glad the show started making use of Crab's good fortune again, it was a real chekov's gun situation.

No news on my search for a copy of episode 21. I'm starting to think it doesn't exist.

Sooo I’ve been watching Money Heist (La casa de papel) and I have 3 dreamling scenarios for you:

1) hostage Hob and robber Dream

Hob cannot help but admire the silent man pointing a gun at his head, the way he doesn’t posture or play mind games and is happy to hang back in the shadows, but also his fast reflexes, spot on aim, quick and calm thinking when things go to shit

Anyways Hob falls in love and joins the robbers. He never had strong moral code anyways and they’re not stealing from people but fucking the system and that’s kind of sexy tbh. Not as sexy as Dream holding a gun to Hob’s head, standing nose to nose, blue eyes piercing through his soul, the click of the gun… anyways, Hob helps them steal the money, in exchange he’s gonna steal Dream’s heart

2) robber Hob and hostage Dream

Dream hates Hob, he is jovial and loud and delusional, but to Dream’s irritation he is also kind and patient and smart. Doesn’t stop Dream from trying to outsmart Hob and getting pinned to the wall at gunpoint. Hob doesn’t begrudge him though, just laughs and compliments his guts. Dream switches tactics and tries to seduce him which has nothing to do with how hot being held at gunpoint felt, or the way Hob’s muscles spasm when he lifts heavy things, or the chest hair poking from his unzipped hideously orange jumpsuit. But ooops Dream falls into his own trap and falls in love and now he doesn’t want the heist to end…

3) same personalities, but they are both robbers

They both think the other is an idiot at first, at the hideout in the planning stage. Hob jokes in classes and Dream hates his casual attitude, Hob thinks Dream has a stick up his ass and takes everything too seriously

But being stuck and isolated from society for months, neither is blind to each other’s atracttiveness, and one thing leads to another and one of their spats leads to a heist-partners-with-benefits arrangement. It’s good to let go of some steam, it’s casual, no strings attached, and the sex is amazing tbh

During the heist they go back to annoying each other, but slowly grow to appreciate each others strengths. Then someone betrays the gang, things get ugly fast and Hob takes a bullet for Dream. He nearly bleeds out, but when he wakes up Dream is by his side and they both know none of this is casual anymore, and they are willing to die for each other. They become the best power duo in the squad

Run Away (But We're Running in Circles), please!

Ah, this is one I've talked about before but it finally has a title! This is the fic about Dream not believing he's loved on purpose (he thinks Hob and Death just "love everyone", not actually him specifically). This is also the one I'm working on now and am planning on finishing next! (Goal is to finish it before Valentine's Day 🤞)

Have a snippet of Hob recruiting more to his cause:

Sniffling, Hob glanced up at the raven, watching as he shifted on his feet anxiously. Hob blinked in realization as he spoke, “You really care about him, huh?” “I mean, yeah, obviously,” Matthew shrugged as much as he was able, “Honestly it’s kind of hard not to. I mean have you seen the guy? Like, he’s supposed to be this all-powerful force of the universe, but he feels more like a kitten you find hiding from the rain under your car, y’know?” Hob barked out a laugh, “I don’t think he’d appreciate that comparison, but you’re absolutely not wrong.” “It’s not like he didn’t care about me first!” Matthew states, almost defensively. He flutters over, settling on the couch cushion next to Hob and he gets the impression that they should be sharing a couple beers right now, gossiping about their mutual friend, “He tries soooo hard to be all cold and aloof, but he knew me for five seconds and tried to keep me from doing my literal job ‘cause he was worried I’d get hurt.” “Yeah, that sounds like him,” Hob smirked, shaking his head fondly. “I can’t believe I had to die to finally get a good boss,” Matthew huffed, “Honestly that’s the craziest part of my afterlife. Turned into a raven? I can shrug that off. I enjoy my job and love my boss? THAT’S the part I have trouble believing.”  Snapping his head over, Hob blinks for a long moment. Matthew’s feathers fluff up at his staring, “What? What did I do?” Slowly, a grin spreads across Hob’s face, leaning forward gleefully. “Want to help me with something?”
