If you want to see how harmful this “digital nomadic culture” is, you just need to look at what they’ve done to Bali, Indonesia. They have completely displaced local residents and pushed them out of their communities because locals can no longer afford to keep up with the COL. Original post: "They bore me so much🫥" with the caption from an Instagram story of. woman dining: "GIRL MATH: You've figured out the ultimate life hack as a millenial is to make you money in the US and live abroad where the cost of living is more affordable."
There's so many layers to unpack here. 'Tourism' in the Caribbean, for instance, is something I think about as well whenever I see people acting like this -these industries, which are highly exploitative towards the people and their communities and environments is one element -but the 'travelling to paradise' market itself is based in neo/colonialist frameworks and current mentalities and that itself is something that needs to be addressed much more. Especially with what is happening in Jamaica where so many Jamaicans are being pushed out of their own land when a tourist 'resort' wants to build or 'expand' because these 'ideal' locations are near the sea, where Jamaican people have been/are fishing for their own livelihoods and survival. I posted a video about this, but for those who haven't looked into these issues -I implore you to look into this.
I also think of Hawai'i, which has had many devastating impacts to their islands this past year -irreparable damages to both Native Hawaiians and the environment (and ongoing issues, such as the water being contaminated/and scarce there and yet tourists are prioritized for access to clean water sources) -and STILL people remained and traveled there during the Maui fires, and just overall despite countless pleas for them not to go they still do.
Among many the 'desirable destinations' marketed specifically to Europeans/Westerners as 'a getaway to' where they can detach from their busy lives, or to live permanently because it's 'too expensive' where they live -I sincerely wish they would come back down to earth and realize their imperialistic mentalities -especially when going to countries whose economies they perceived as 'poorer,' without looking critically at the country's infrastructure and history is just willful ignorance at best.

All fantastic points. Yeah, the Caribbean has its flaws - it's filler like KH3's other Disney worlds, the swimming controls (while better than KH's Atlantica) are not the best, and the already confusing plot of At World's End is made far moreso for anyone who's never watched the movie, especially considering there's no Dead Man's Chest to set it up properly. But with that said, the strengths all outweigh them. The graphics look amazing, the vast world design is really like its own game in of itself, the ship combat is fun, the visiting Organization member actually does shit, you finally get to fight an honest-to-goodness Disney villain / humanoid boss, and it's great pay-off for Sora who since the start of the first game wanted to sail the sea as "captain" of his raft and is now living out that childhood dream in a much grander way.

Expression sheet for El Sombrereo or Tye Mad Hatter for my LatAm AiW AU. Trying to show expression through one eye is already hard enough, but doing it one eye that is just an infinite void into space is another task. Also...HATS ARE HARD!! Overall, I am really happy with the number of ways I was able to contort his the one thing that gives him expression. Which is your favorite?

Continuing in my design process for my LatAm AiW (Alicia en el Pais de Maravillas) the grand question on how to design another human like character came up. Changing the animal characters to other animals is one thing but just like the mad hatter what can I do with humans? At first I started looking into trickster spirits in various LatAm and Caribbean lore. The research was hard and endless but then I had an idea with the playing in the concept of Sun and Moon. Everywhere around the world in old belief systems the Sun and the Moon are always connected to one another. Whether it be husband and wife, siblings, or parental, the two celestial objects are tethered to each other. After coming up with the connected opposites concept now came their design. I was looking into how I could display this concept of sun and moon while connecting it to the theme of showing LatAm and Caribbean culture. A people I have always been fascinated by are the descendants of the Inca Empire. The Qero’s people that live the Cusco region in Peru cloth themselves in these brilliant hot pinks and red poncho’s decorated in beautiful geometric design with even more colors. And they adorn their heads in woolen hats with colorful pom pom’s. I just knew I had to use them as my inspiration in the look for my twins. I had to be careful to not create the twins into caricatures of REAL people. I’d like to think I as able to achieve that as nothing is an exaggeration of the Qero people. The names Inti and Killa are sun and moon in Quechua which is an umbrella term for the various dialects that spoken by the Indigenous of the Andes mountains. Hope my little ramble helped in understanding the design of these twins. :)
