DMC Questions Anon here!
A Devil May Cry spinoff that is set to be led by one the female cast has been announced, and they've asked you to make the game. Which of the women of Devil May Cry will you choose to be the main character? What other characters will you want to appear? What's the plot of the game? (You can also go deeper into gameplay mechanics if you desire.)
Hi, dear DMC questions anon!)))
I think my answer is quite obvious) (psss it`s gonna be Patty)
Contradictory I`d like to say some words about other ladies as protagonists:
Lady can get her chance to Finally Get Some Characterisation. This woman is middle-aged and her character has been 'teenage girl with a rocket launcher' The Entire Time, This Is An Actual Crime. Her only bit of character is (1) throwaway line in 5, ONE. Lady has been dealt a very bad hand by the franchise, but if she were to have a spinoff game, maybe she could have gotten at least a good goodbye arc, though it`s hard to give a proper goodbye to a character if she never had any arc in the first place. Lady is kind of doomed by the series at this point, very little can save her, F.
Trish and Lucia are equally good choices here. Both of them have...some character, also they are both demons and demonic culture or lore could have been explored. They have a very basic foundation (which is much stronger than Ladys), but its strong enough to jump-start a good story and give them some light. Personally I would prefer Lucia, just because I like her more.
Now, onto my favourite DMC girl)
As a major cerified Patty Propaganda enjoyer, I would love to see nonsexualised young adult version of Patty! There, however, are some additional reasons why I'd love to see more of her:
no power creep. Patty is not a Sparda, and Spardas are known to suffer from insane power creep, and she just wont be able to handle that. Patty can explore the more down-to-earth struggles of a modern world where demons are an actual thing. She can handle like domestic demon problems or some small infestation, but if she steps into something she cant handle she Needs to get out of there and call in backup (her adopted dad/cousin/uncle will handle everything very thouroughly). DMC is never really afraid of the demons, they are basically a dummy for the player to practise on, and can only make you anxious if youre playing on a harder difficulty. Well, base game difficulty is actually always a DMD mode for Patty and I think that could be a very interesting lens to look through
This same lens can be used to show other human demons hunters or armorers like Nico! 3 Spardas, 2 demon ladies and one rocket launcher schoolgirl cannot handle every possible demon problem, theres gotta be other hunters.
Patty is canon to be a descendant of a sourcerer, and this is a Great segway into gameplay. Because I think Patty's possible gameplay should be V's upgraded and expanded theme and moveset.
Has anyone here seen or heard of Astral Chain???No? Yeah me too, its a nintendo exclusive. Wanna know what it is? A Platinum Game slasher with Pet Demon control, where you have Multiple demons to choose from, you can use them for Mobility to platform around, and customise and it has a banger soundtrack!!!
I believed V has something really good going on when starting out DMC5, and was a little dissapointed when I realised how shallow he is compared to other characters. He is still fun and very very unique to play and I think his gameplay should be improved upon and Astral Chain Proves that too.
Give Patty some magic stuff to bind demons with, let us have a variety of summons to choose from (I Will go through the entire game with a pet Cerberus, just as I did in 5, thanks for asking), but Patty herself should have her own moveset and toolkit. She can't possibly get into melee range with any demon as human speed cannot compare, but she could use some guns (courtesy of Dante probably), and spells or potions. Personally I was not a fan of Breakers', well, breaking mechanic, but it would work really well for an actual human demon hunter who needs additional powerful thingies like that in battle. Also Would love to see Kyrie being proficient in some rare Order magic or stuff like that, they Had to have some other spells or scrolls around, and its a reason to see Kyrie in game) (like how could Nero leave her alone otherwise, she has to have at least some defencive options, and seeing as devout she was I think she could be quite good at them, maybe she just doesnt like exterminating demons herself)
My only issue I dont have a solution for is how to make this sort of theme seem related to the DMC series, as a human protag will be a significant downgrade from sparda powerhouse-losers. Limiting enemy numbers or screen will make the gameplay less interesting, and giving it fast pace like the other entries might destroy the illusion of 'human' demon hunter, who is not as capable as sparpda bois. Buuut that's sort of problem for the game designers to handle and not me soooo I'm gonna use that excuse yeah
tldr: I would choose Patty, she can give the game a down-to-earth viewpoint of how an average DMC series people handle demons, and her gameplay can be an expanded version of V, with some inspiration from the Astral Chain and some original moves mixed in

i think human AUs for non-human characters are cool and I think non-human AUs for human characters are sweet. You know what I want? A version of Nero DMC with a full tattoo sleeve replacing his devil bringer. I just think it makes visual sense

It is just as critically important for the Netflix DMC anime to properly portray Vergil (he's going to be there, of course he is) as it is to portray Dante. Their whole shtick is that one is cool by acting uncool and the other is uncool by repeatedly causing mass disasters in an effort to be seen as cool
Dante doesn't smoke. He exclusively eats pizza and ice cream. He gets stabbed twice a week. He unironically says "Woohoo! Yeeha! Watcha!" All the women in his life keep attacking him and then take all of his money, with the exception of Patty, who got rich and decorated Devil May Cry in balloons and ribbons and then stole Dante's ice cream anyway. His nephew kicked him into a statue and impaled him with his own sword when they first met.
Vergil is a grown-ass man running around with a katana cutting down everything but his mommy issues. He loses every fight. He uses hair gel despite not even living in human society. He attacked his dad's enemy to prove he was just as good and they kicked his ass. He made up his own overpowered self-insert devilsona because he kept losing to Dante and then it kicked his ass. His humansona looks like if Kylo Ren googled what emo was. He killed millions of people for a fruit that makes you stronger and then Dante kicked his ass. And then his son kicked his ass. He has never paid child support. He answered Dante's statement of "You cut off your own son's arm for this?" with "My son means nothing to me" and then gets surprised when told that Nero is his son, implying he's cut so many arms off that his son being Nero never even entered his mind. His own doppleganger summon occasionally dances outside of his control, making him die of cringe.
Meanwhile, Nero, left unsupported by both his father and his uncle for most of his life, got out of a cult, married his love, runs a soup kitchen, has a stable job, can actually hire a mechanic to help out, and owns a car, but somehow he's the loser in the family.

To me, Dante's level of attractiveness is tied to how much of an uncle he is. In Dmc 1, he may not know he's an uncle, but the universe definitely does and he's got all of the cringe/cool uncle jokes. He's hot, but he's not quite there yet. 5/10
Dmc 2 has 0 attractive Dante vibes. There are no jokes, no intentional cheese, and he's too quiet and stone cold. If I didn't already know he was an uncle, dmc 2 gives no indication that he is, unlike dmc 1. The only thing he's got going is his look. 1/10
Dmc 3 is interesting in that he's too young for his jokes to feel like uncle jokes, but he's definitely what I imagine your uncle was like as a young adult. 7/10
Dmc 4 is where he's at true attractive status because not only does he know he's an uncle, he leans into it right away. As soon as he saw Nero bite his gun he knew he had a new family member. He mocks Nero's sword by fake revving the Rebellion. 10/10
Dmc 5 Dante has surpassed the chart and has reached divine uncle status. He's at prime uncle age of over 40. His ex provocation taunt is just a drunk uncle at his nephew's wedding. And now Nero knows everything so it's very likely when he returns he will truly take advantage of tormenting Nero the way only an uncle can. He's very attractive. 10000/10

Love Dante so fucking much. I love how his design reflects his story soo so much
In DMC 3 he's young and reckless. Messy haircut, no shirt under his jacket, one sleeve ripped in half, and baggy pants with chunky boots. He looks like a bit of a douchebag... And he kinda is until the end if the game
Tumblr media
DMC 1 Dante is more professional and sleek - he's taking things seriously, and taking steps to achieve his goal of avenging his family
Tumblr media
I could gloss over DMC 2 Dante, but I do think there is something you could glean from it. It's even more proper than his DMC 1 design, and has more black on it. Overall, he looks more miserable, which makes sense for someone who may have just completed the one thing giving his life purpose, and thinking he killed his last family member in the process
Tumblr media
In contrast to DMC 2, DMC 4 Dante is back on his feet, with a slight cowboy theming with the chaps. He's even more layed back than ever, like in the time since DMC 2 he's reconnected with past friends and found himself again, furthered when he finds Nero and becomes the cool uncle almost immediately (even if he might not know how literal that may be at said moment)
Tumblr media
Then by DMC 5 he's kinda chilled out a bit. Wearing his old coat, ripped shirt, and overall more rugged clothes, with some very noticeable stubble. He's not trying anymore, he's comfortable, he knows what he's worth
Tumblr media
Out of all of them, his design in Devil May Cry 1 is my favourite. I'm hoping for some type of remake of DMC 1 so we can get some higher quality renders if his outfit (and make it Actually Fun)

Seeing The DMC Guys Devil Triggering For The First Time Headcanons
Tumblr media
Dante X FemReader
Honestly it scared you at first
Was this seriously the same man that you had come to adore?
You were used to seeing him so carefree and you couldn’t deny...goofy. So it was just too big of a shock to see him differently than in the form you were used to. His human half the part he wanted everyone to see him as.
Though once you saw how your terrified reaction struck him and the sadness that came upon his transformed face you hurriedly comforted him.
Dante had accepted everything about you and your deepest darkest secrets. It was only fair to accept this half of him.
It didn’t take you long to become comfortable with his DT form and after awhile you could see features of his human form in his demonic side.
Plus he’s SUPER warm in his DT form.
Like he’s warm normally but think furnace when he transforms.
Like grab the oven mitts just to touch him. Though he can control if he burns you or not.
So if he gets cuddly in DT form you will not be singed or burned to a crisp.
After the first time you kinda started expecting it and could tell when he was going to trigger. It became much easier to fight together as well as you learned his habits.
You also helped Dante build his confidence in the Sparda blood in his veins as he struggled accepting who he is. You were proud of him and just because he isn’t fully human didn’t mean he didn’t have anything to offer towards you.
Dante is your everything in life and you his. And him looking different from time to time wasn’t going to change things.
Tumblr media
Vergil X FemReader
Vergil’s transformation honestly didn’t surprise you
He’s not exactly subtle about his demonic half.
So for the first time, while you weren’t surprised, you couldn’t deny that he was a little scarier in DT form.
It seemed like he could lose himself to the demon at any point if he so wished.
That being said you weren’t scared of him. Especially when you got used to his transforming.
Vergil has been through so much throughout his life and you couldn’t let this one thing keep you from staying by his side.
Vergil feels like everyone he has ever known and loved has abandoned him and you weren’t going to make him feel that way.
In DT form he is more animalistic so while urges he can normally control in human form become a lot harder to control.
So you aren’t shocked when he becomes more touchy feely. It does give you the confidence that he actually does have feelings for you. Though you don’t tease him about it.
He’ll deny it or get angry if you do.
Though you can’t help it sometimes he’s just fun to get a rise out of.
So yes first time not shocked at seeing his demonic half but you never get bored seeing him transform.
Tumblr media
Nero X FemReader
You were completely and totally in awe the first time you saw Nero DT.
Unlike Dante and Vergil’s DT forms, Nero’s is more humanoid in looks.
You weren’t scared or nervous cause you just know Nero would never hurt you.
No, your first thought was wanting to touch that hair. Cause it was completely unfair that he have better hair than you.
He snorted when you told him that too but pulled you into a hug nonetheless.
Nero wasn’t shocked that you weren’t afraid of him. If it’s one thing he builds in relationships it’s trust and understanding.
You didn’t like secrets so he never kept his demon part hidden from you.
You weren’t ashamed of his hand or his powers so there was no way you were ashamed when you found out that he can transform.
You actually thought it was cool and told him so.
He blushed.
You acted like you didn’t notice. It would embarrass him.
Dante was proud when he found out that Nero finally told you and made sure you knew he could transform as well.
Though you love Uncle Dante his DT form wasn’t near as attractive as Nero’s.
When you told Nero that you could have sworn the next time he DT’d he was preening. Though he wouldn’t tell Dante what you said, the dork wouldn’t leave you alone or stop teasing Nero until he tried to kill said uncle.
It was like a party trick sort of when he would DT out of the blue just to entertain you. It was definitely something that became the normal and you were glad that he felt so comfortable in his second form around you.

I've never played DMC but Dante always has given me Goofy Weird Uncle vibes and Vergil has always given Major Asshole, Condescending Bastard vibes.
Dante's vibes are: Would play Arcade games, would probably fall asleep on a couch with his hand in a bowl of cheeseballs, lazy badassery mixed with sarcasm and smirks
Vergil's have always seemed: Stuffy guy, probably labels people as "Peasant" or "Burdensome Idiot" in his inner monologue, looks down his nose at Lesser People TM.
As someone who has played dmc, would you say that the vibe assessment is accurate or is the vibe radar broken? *offers soapbox for the king's decree*
Oh my god *trips over the soapbox* Yes Dante is absolutely the goofy uncle who is full of dad jokes and one liners and yet is also somehow??? Just ????? Cool?????
But I think that’s a surface reading cuz below that he is a barely functioning person who is crushed with survivors guilt. I feel he’s a poster child of “using humour to deflect”. I wanna put a sticker on his forehead which reads “fuck it we ball”. He can also be surprisingly somber and serious and while I joke about his single brain cell the guy is smart, he just has brain damage from the colossal crushing weight of untreated depression
Vergil is an absolute snot and the idiot has some sort of a power and superiority kink. But I think he comes across as stiff and buttoned up is cuz he doesn’t know how to act as a person. His only points of reference for an ordinary human life are childhood and early adulthood. Beyond that it’s just being a puppet to a demon and then… whatever happened then
Considering that Vergil is the one that starts shit and Dante is the one that has to clean up after him, I think they’re both as stupid as the other. So while it’s difficult to imagine, yes Vergil is just as likely to pass face planting a bowl of cheeseballs as Dante
Thank u for coming to my ted talk

Dallas Liu & Elizabeth Yu
On Fire Nation siblings reborn: from animation to live-action
A familiar chime resonates, followed by the words, “water, earth, fire, air”—it's the unmistakable precursor to the iconic opening of Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender. When the beloved animated series was released, my brother and I, like countless others, eagerly awaited each new episode, immersing ourselves in the epic saga week after week. We witnessed the characters grow up alongside us, and well into our adulthood, we've revisited the series time and time again. Now, with Netflix's highly anticipated live-action adaptation set to premiere on February 22nd, it's a chance to revisit the beloved characters and stories we've cherished for years, brought to life in a new format.
Sitting side by side, Dallas Liu and Elizabeth Yu warmly greet me over Zoom the day after the premiere event in Los Angeles. With anticipation for the live-action adaptation reaching a fever pitch, Liu and Yu sit down with Timid to delve into their roles as the dynamic Fire Nation siblings, Zuko and Azula. Their excitement is palpable as they reflect on the journey of bringing these beloved characters to life and the profound impact the series has had on their lives and careers.
With my curiosity piqued, I inquire about their personal connections to the show. Without hesitation, Liu fondly discusses his childhood introduction to the series, recalling Zuko's training on the boat with Uncle Iroh as the moment he fell in love with the character. "The show has been a big inspiration to me, influencing my decision to pursue martial arts. So, it was a dream come true, getting to incorporate both acting and martial arts into a childhood series that I loved.”
Yu shares a different reflection and responds, “Avatar was my first introduction to this style of animation. So, it was really cool to see faces inspired by our own in an animated style and in a positive way.” Reflecting on their responses, it becomes clear that for both Liu and Yu, as well as countless fans, Avatar: The Last Airbender holds a special place in their hearts, serving as a source of inspiration and connection.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The deep impact of the show has cultivated a dedicated fan base, and as members themselves, Liu and Yu were beyond excited to play Zuko and Azula. Their eyes light up as they recall key moments, such as joining the cast, and express their gratitude for being part of such an iconic series. "Every single cast member, writer, producer, director, and even our transportation and craft teams deeply loved the series," Yu says, emphasizing the collective passion driving the project. Liu expands on this sentiment, saying, “It’s special! The fans will really appreciate that there's a new level to the story, which is really interesting to watch.”
Amidst the excitement, the duo acknowledges the weight of fan expectations and the responsibility of honoring the beloved characters. “I grew up with a lot of friends whose whole personality is this show, because they love it so much. They grew up with it. So, you definitely don't want to mess it up. You want to do it right,” Yu shares. Liu nods in agreement, recognizing the monumental task of filling the shoes of beloved characters like Zuko, voiced by Dante Basco in the animated series. Despite the pressure, Liu and Yu remain committed to capturing the essence of their characters authentically. Liu describes their approach as taking a “grounded route in our performance, rather than trying to impersonate cartoon characters.”
While watching the show, it became increasingly apparent that while the characters' progression retained a comforting familiarity, there were also instances where the actors infused their own unique essence into their performances. Some moments paid homage to the original, but others showcased the actors' individual interpretations, breathing fresh life into the characters.
In the animated series, Zuko emerges as a dynamic and complex character, navigating his identity as Prince of the Fire Nation while grappling with his personal journey towards redemption and self-discovery. When portraying Zuko in the live-action adaptation, Liu aimed to convey the character's depth and inner turmoil. He explains, “I wanted to make this a real-life person that has experienced real-life trauma. Someone that people could relate to.”
One scene in particular that stood out to me while I was watching the show was when Zuko returned to his boat and was met with an unexpected welcome from his crew. In that scene, upon Zuko’s face, you could see his inner conflict come into play. Now, as I share with Liu that I got emotional during this scene, he, too, said that it was pretty emotional for him as well. Liu reflects, “In that scene, without dialogue, you can see how much it affects Zuko. You can feel it in your heart.”
For Yu, the slight retelling of Azula’s story in the adaptation provided her with the freedom to explore the nuances of her character. Azula, a formidable antagonist with a complex persona, embarks on her own journey of self-discovery. Yu explains, “I'm not even in the first season of the original series, so my whole character arc in the first season is new, which is cool to see because it adds so much more of a grounding point for the character later on.”
Tumblr media
As Avatar: The Last Airbender unfolds, Azula’s complex relationship with her father, Lord Ozai, portrayed by Daniel Dae Kim, begins to unravel as she asserts her dominance in the Fire Nation. Yu’s portrayal delves deeper into Azula's psyche, offering viewers an enriched understanding of the character's evolution. Both Yu and Liu note the distinction between the original series, initially intended for a younger audience, and the live adaptation, which delves into the darker aspects of their characters' pasts and the realities of growing up in the Fire Nation. “We get to see the gravity of their situation,” Liu says. “Neither of our characters are truly evil. They experienced trauma that not everyone goes through.” This is especially true as you see both Zuko’s and Azula’s interaction with Lord Ozai.
A turning point arises when Azula confronts her father, showcasing her capability to follow in his footsteps. Yu describes how she prepared for that scene, saying, “As a fan of the show, I was living vicariously through all of it. We were waiting for that switch, when does she turn into Azula that we all know and love? What shifted inside of her. That scene shows that switch, and you also see what makes her different from Zuko.”
Throughout the first season, there are glimpses of the characters' motivations, shedding light on their intricate bond. Yu offers insight into their dynamic, stating, “They want the same thing at the end of the day, but the way they go about it is different because of who they are.” These motivations are evident, particularly in the characters' quest for their father’s approval and love. However, alongside this desire, there exists a palpable sibling rivalry. This dynamic even extends beyond the screen, as Liu jests about Yu, “She did a great job at being the conniving younger sibling, but as the series continues Azula is like, ‘Oh, this is my dumb older brother.’”
This banter continues as I pose a playful question to both of them, asking, “What type of bender would you consider each other as?” Their eyes met, and with a smile, Liu responds, “She wants me to say water, but when you’re talking about her ambition for Azula and their similarities, it’s fire. For example, her approach to Azula was eye opening because she really cared about the performances that we're giving rather than just stick to the original. I gained respect for her as an artist and it was super sick to see.” Yu laughs and chimes in, “I want to be a water bender so bad, but everyone keeps saying fire.”
For Liu, Yu chooses earth bending. “I feel like you’re an earth bender,” she says to an immediate response of “What makes you think I’m an earth bender?” Yu explains her reason, noting Liu's grounded approach to various aspects of life, coupled with his passion and perseverance, akin to the characteristics of an earth bender.
In the realm of storytelling, Avatar: The Last Airbender has captivated audiences around the world. Dedication permeates every aspect of the first season, from the committed production team to the powerful performances. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to the world of bending, the live adaptation offers a fresh perspective while staying true to the essence of the beloved series. "It is fanmade," Yu passionately declares when asked about the message she hopes viewers will glean from the first season.

''Pull my devil trigger'' - Yandere! Nero x Reader headcanons
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
warnings: kidnapping, unhealthy behavior, toxic relationship, yandere stuff, implied murder
note: im not sorry for not writing this whole time i was just not motivated (like vergil) ALSO STOP LIKING MY OLD WORKS BRO IM GONNA CRINGE.
to nero, you were just a helpless little puppy dog.
a puppy dog that needs saving and a savor, a protecter.
when nero first saw you, you were about to be attacked by demons but nero saved you. when you looked at him with those "loving" eyes, he knew you were the one.
Ever since then, nero has been watching and following you. everytime you met or saw him, it wasnt a concidence or fate.. but nero would always say it was.
besides demons, nero would protect you from humans and even his own uncle and father
dante will try and ask if you want some pizza and nero quickly steps in and yells at dante to back off (dante isnt NOT phased)
vergil will be talking to you about some book and nero will yank you by the arm and take you away
vergil, dante and everyone else will notice and will try to talk to nero about me but everytime they try he just loses his cool and promise he's fine
he just wants to make sure you still love him because hes insecure about the relationship
everyone will turn to you and try to get you to talk to him because he only listens to you
one day, you pull nero down to talk to him about his behavior but you get cut off by nero saying "You're really listening to them? What about our relationship? You wouldn't be here if I didnt save you that day." nero says while getting offended. nero shakes his head and tells you to leave.
you do as youre told but before you even go to the door, something hits you hard on the back of the head.
as soon as you wake up, youre tied to a chair in a garage. You look around more and notice nero in the corner.. looking at you.. waiting for you.
nero walks towards you and kisses your forehead telling you no more bad people are coming for you now.

DMC random thoughts and headcanons in no particular order:
(incest shippers - I will Real Impact you on sight, Go Away; DMC is exclusively a gen (except Nero/Kyrie) family drama to me)
- I kind of wish there had been more of a '5 plot except Dante doesn't wake up and Vergil has to decide between power and the life of his brother' AU going on around here. I had a post written about it, but basically I think Nero himself is more than enough to give Vergil's emotional constipation some cracks, and then the ball gets rolling
- More Cerberus And King Cerberus Appreciation!!! They are two great demonic doggos and deserve more love (and double the appreciation for their weapon forms). I wish Dante had a Cerberus as a dog, than man really needs emotional support
- Vergil should Not have 4 wings. Controversial, yes, but he has a very cool and stabby tail in SDT, Wings are Dante's thing. Dante should have 4 wings, Vergil should have two and a tail, I Do Not Accept criticism
- Dante/Lady or Lucia ship could totally sail (personally I lean more towards Lucia), but not in this story of DMC, at least not for me. I think Dante could like either of them, but he is absolutely not in the right space for any kind of relationship during the entire story of the series, and probably won't be for a long time even after 5
- Patty Adopted Dante As Father Figure, I Do Not Accept Criticism
- Patty would get like a house on fire with Nero, especially if they compare Dante burns. She would also get along well with Vergil, because he actually has manners and style, she can appreciate that, also Patty wouldn't bother him too much (aside from nagging to be nicer).
- Dante is the Best Uncle when he is actually trying
- I wish we had at least a little bit more story going for Lucia, I really like her, but have not idea how to fit her in with other characters
- Nero didn't need to grow his arm back. He gets beautiful DT wing-claws, they are enough, or, well, they couldve made him be able to make a temporary 'holo arm' if needed, but in any case he is a better character if his arm is missing. Nero uses Breakers anyway, and his theme is using human contraptions instead of demonic artefacts. Regrowing an arm just makes him another one in a long line of 'disabled characters that get magically cured of their disaibility'. (have you seen his reloading animation with one arm? it`s great and just as cool as others)
- Dante and Vergil silently agreed to let Nero throw his much needed temper-tantrum, and Vergil absolutely went on easy mode on Nero. I love the punk boy, but no way he would be able to defeat either of the twins
- It is exceptionally beautiful to me how much alike and different the twins are, and either of them could be a hero, or a villain in their respective story. At the same time I am absolutely certain a villain!Dante would be irredeemable
- Battle for the Sun by Placebo is a song I associate with the tragic story of the wins. The music and melody is explosive and destructive, just like everything that came crashing down around the twins, it rises in intensity as their problems are left for decades to fester, the lyrics of the verses is very determined - both wont stand down and are extremely determined to see their crash course till the end (also the multiple repeats of some words makes it sound a little like a broken record - or in a narrative sense, like a lie they keep and keep telling themselves) , however the chorus is very different. The explosion of music that is constantly rising in verses finally blows up, and in this destructive cacaphony of sound the chorus is actually emotionally raw and sweet - the final confrontation of the brothers was inevitable, and it is the conclusion of their story, both know that and there is no more place left for conflict of goals, ideals or anything else, they know the end of their story is coming and the only thing they feel is joy. Joy as they clash together, like only they can, joy at seeing each other, alive after all these years, and joy at being together again, even in this twisted way, their affection in undeteterred
- (more Patty propaganda) I believe Morrison found the 'protect young child from demons' job for Dante on purpose. Morrison is probably one of the people who have known Dante for longest, so he would recognise halfbreed's change in moods after the Mallet job (for example Morrison notes Dante was sad when Patty left at the end of the anime, and...is this the only time someone actively voices concern for Dante's mental health? dammit everyone is this series is an emotional trainwreck). It's unknown if Morrison knows exactly How close to Home of an assignment Patty is (very young orphan hunted by demons, and she is not a half-devil child) to Dante, but her character was probably another good reason for Morrison to pick her as a temporary company to Dante. Even without considering his depressed state, Dante responds only to other dominating personalities (rivalry with Vergil, constantly trying to one-up another friendship with Lady) and Patty certainly has no patience for his laying around or mess at home. At the same time, she is considerate and empathetic enough to give him space or leave him alone if needed. She was the person to help him through the time after Mallet trauma and she did an admirable job. I think this makes their relationship (familiar one, NOT a ship) special, and she totally adopted Dante as her Father Figure against his will, and he can't do anything about it since.
- Subhuman is The Perfect song for DMC5 Dante (would I have liked it on its own? dunno, probably not, but playing the game with it on feels fantaSSStic and I adore this song ever since, also it is thematically On Point with Dante's character arc in 5)
- One of the fics I've read (Неудачник by velkhar on ao3) had written down the idea that Dante doesn't speak in SDT is because he is afraid of what his voice would sound like (once again, Dante has problems with his demonic heritage, they did not go away, not at all) and this headcanon has been aggressively accepted ever since
- Every Sparda has a very refined music taste. Dante is a Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Tenacious D fan for sure, perhaps also a Deepeche Mode fan, probably other 80-90s rock would fall into his interests. Nero is more of a pop rock guy, he definitely would like some rap and grunge music too, he'd like older Imagine Dragons albums, Linkin Park For Sure, maybe Skillet and or Katy Perry, probably also developed a taste for some classical music (being in Order and all; btw yes, you can like rock and classical music at the same time). Dante and Nero would dance to Shakira and Lady Gaga. Vergil's harder to pin down, as much as I enjoy BTL I cannot imagine him listening to it. I'd say he would enjoy classical music of course, maybe something like jazz or soul too. Might be a big stretch, but I also think Vergil would enjoy something like Evanescence too, I feel like all Spardas have a weak spot for female lead vocals.
(projecting here) all of them would like orchestral covers of classic rock songs, Vergil would especially enjoy covers on pipe organ (double projecting).

I've never played a Devil May Cry game, I've just passively absorbed an enormous quantity of DMC lore from my partner, who loves those games and is a big nerd. My understanding of Dante is that he is simultaneously the coolest and the least cool guy in the entire world. He is disqualified from ever being daddy because he is the Platonic ideal of a cool uncle. He eats like a teenager and can probably only cook one thing. He probably fucks like a wildcat and yet has, on more than one occasion, given himself a tension injury while doing so, thus causing him to spend the entire next day lying around and grousing because he pulled what he will not stop calling "a sexy muscle." I wouldn't trust him to make toast but we can absolutely trust him to save the world. I love him. I can never play a DMC game, because I don't want anything to damage this idea of him that I have.
