One notable update involves refining the definition of transgender identity by eliminating the term "intersexuality" and introducing a distinct category labeled "variations in sex characteristics."

Generally not surprising anymore that even with Scottlands new law against hate speech coming in, JK Rowling is still transphobic, making an entire twitter thread about trans women that is basically throwing a tantrum that they will recieve protection from bigots like her while also basically trying to say all trans women are sex offenders via throwing in non-sex offenders in the thread with sex offenders and at the end, going, "April Fools!" and proceeding to insist they not women, just men. Its just beyond disgusting she's still at it with her followers who I can only assume the worst off if they sticking around even after the holocaust denial incident, let alone that being someone with money, its likely she'll get away with this shit. I'd like to be proven wrong, but I doubt I will be.

Fuck JK Rowling but it makes me so angry to think we could have had a complete Fantastic Beasts series with an autistic lead who isn’t a total stereotype, who is loveable, who has a love interest instead of just being infantilised…and instead we’re getting a seven season Harry Potter reboot/remake that no one asked for or wanted on HBO Max.

When I was going through the process of my autism diagnosis, feeling anxious and worried about what being diagnosed would mean, knowing that Newt Scamander - a character who is adored by so many in a major franchise - was being played as autistic helped me tremendously. I saw much of myself in Newt, and it made me feel seen that an autistic person like myself could be the hero, that Newt wasn’t a joke or stereotype. It was so important to me coming to terms with my diagnosis that a character I loved was like me and not limited by being autistic.

I’ve mentioned this before but on the opening day of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore in the UK, there was a boy on the row in front of me. When Newt came onscreen, he started bouncing and flapping his hands excitedly - like me, he was autistic and saw himself represented on the big screen.

“But Luna Lovegood” - you know what, controversial but fuck your “but Luna Lovegood”. Her actress sided with the TERF, and Luna is NOT confirmed to be autistic, it’s just a popular fan headcanon. Meanwhile Newt Scamander has been confirmed by Eddie Redmayne (not JKR, fuck her) to be on the spectrum. I’m not saying she definitely isn’t because I can definitely see it, and it’s wonderful autistic people can relate, but I’m talking about a character who is intentionally written and portrayed as autistic instead of just fan headcanons.

What does having a love interest have to do with this? Believe it or not, this isn’t me just being a shipper: too often are autistic people infantilised, as if we can’t love other people or that people are incapable of loving us. But - as anyone following me most likely knows - Newt Scamander has a love interest, Porpentina “Tina” Goldstein, who he’s canonically married to in the future. They even have a grandson who is called Rolf and marries the aforementioned Luna.

In the three films, we only got a few scenes (and then JK Rowling cut Tina out because Katherine Waterston called her out on multiple occasions for being a transphobe) of Newtina but what we got showed that not only is Newt capable of forming a romantic attachment but also Tina clearly loves Newt as he is, quirks and all. She understood his odd compliment of “salamander eyes” because she knows his special interest is magical creatures and it’s his way of saying he adores her eyes. She read his book and genuinely made an effort to learn because she knew magical creatures were important to him, and we saw her grow from thinking he was writing an “extermination guide” to giving him the name for his book, “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them”. My girl Tina LOVES Newt for who he is and always has, and that’s beautiful.

Seeing an autistic person not only fall in love - he spends the whole of the 2nd and 3rd films lamenting on how beautiful she is, talking about her and with her picture in his pocket/suitcase - but also being loved for who they are is something so rarely seen and is so important.

I’ll be the first to hold my hands up and say that the second and third Fantastic Beasts movies weren’t the greatest, by the way. I will agree to that. The first one seems like a damn masterpiece in comparison, even with its problems, but I’m still angry.

The fact that JK Rowling’s bigotry has contributed to losing this rare example of autistic representation in a major mainstream franchise is something no one talks about when discussing her actions, and it hurts that no one seems to care about canon autistic representation.

summary: A mark means a bond between two people, that means they are meant to be to each other. Newt didn't excepted to find the person that night.

Newt wasn't happy. Or upset. Or angry. He was neutral about it. He couldn't feel any of those stuff, it was like he didn't actually care about it but he feels he does, he feels he does care about Tina and the "crush" he has on her. But, apparently, isn't like that.

Oh, sorry, context, yeah.

Basically, there's a point in your life when you get a little mark in your wrist. A mark that you share with someone and that person is your "meant to be". Newt didn't believe in all this stuff so for him it was so ridiculous this to exist. But it did, sadly. And even more sadly, his mark appeared not so much ago.

In his wrist layed a little plant draw like cartoon, it was a stem with two leafs, it's colour was a dull, dirty green. And Newt knew something was missing on it, he couldn't tell what but definitely something was missing and he also knew that he would only discover that finding his "meant to be".

That's how it works. You have the same mark in your wrist as another person in the world, just two people meant to be have that mark and if you get together that mark would be complete. And, obviously, there were people who didn't care about it and weren't up to find those persons, they just live their lifes and who knows? maybe die without completing the mark. Newt didn't consider himself a person who was up to look for his partner but he didn't care much about it either. He hasn't got the time anyways, he has to look up for his creatures and find new ones. No time for the meant to be.

Tina interrupted his thoughts again. He remember when she showed him his mark. He remember having a bit of a pain on his chest for a little while. Her's was half of a ripped open book. Obviously her meant to be had the other part, both ere curious how would it look one completed. Not only her mark was different but she got it first so there's no way they were meant to be, if they were, their marks should've appeared at the same time.

So, there he is now, looking at the mark on his wrist, trying to decide what to do. Maybe he was just gonna live his life as usual and if he casually bumps into his meant to be then it would be cool. Maybe look for that person indirectly. If that makes sense.

"Why are you thinking so much about it? It's not that difficult" He looks up to see his brother in front of him.

"When did you...?" He shakes his head, no time for asking from where and when Theseus appeared. "It is"

"No, it's not"

"I don't have time for this, Theseus. I can't go and search for a person, I have a life, my creatures, they need me" The youngest Scamander stands up and just leaves his brother's office without letting him have the last word.

He sighs. Even tho he shows he doesn't care much about his mark -which is true for the record- he stresses a lot about it. Maybe blame the society pressure or his curiosity. Newt didn't know which but he definitely needed relax. That's why a couple of days ago he bought a ticket to get back to America. He would see Jacob, Tina and Queenie! It's gonna be a little uncomfortable with Tina but since the mark he left behind his feelings for her. This silly little plant cartoon changed him somehow.

"Freaking marks" He said before walking back home.

New York fresh air one more! Nothing like the city you were kicked out because some of your beasts escaped and ruined everything! Nah, he knows he's forgiven so he's not worried.

It's been a while since he doesn't see his friends in here. Jacob has his bakery and it's working so well! Newt really wants to taste everything Jacob cooks. So they're gonna meet at Tina and Queenie's house to catch up with their lifes.

Newt is excited about this, he likes his friends very much. The only friends he has. Theseus doesn't count, he's his brother.

Finally at the front door of the house he checks no one's around so he can knock their window with a harmless spell. He sees Tina lean out and give each other a smile. A minute later he's already inside the flat.

"Newt, man!" Jacob comes up to him for a hug which the magizoologist didn't deny. He greeted Queenie and finally Tina. Again, it was a little bit uncomfortable but somehow they maneged the way to be relaxed.

Tina took his coat -even if he insisted he could've done it himself- and put it on the coat rack. Although he didn't leave his case, no shit he would, he couldn't let you-know-what happen again.

"Man, you told me you wanted to taste my masterpieces. There you go" Jacob pointed at the table and a tons of different types of bakery stuff, you know, the things Jacob makes.

They sat to drink some tea and eat a bit. They told Newt that he and Queenie finally got their mark and, ta-da! They match! Newt congratulated them, tho he wasn't ready to tell he got his now. Their mark is a baguette witch sparkles around. It had a little glow in the lines and it was so bright. Maybe that's what happens when you find that person.

"The sparks are literally shining. Why are they moving?" Newt asks a little bit confused. He never saw an animated mark.

"It only happens when a witch is in the bond. If it was only Jacob and a muggle it wouldn't be animated but as Queenie is a witch it does"

That seems... still weird, but it just happens. After a bit more of talking they hear a loud noise outside the building. They look at each other almost deciding to ignore it but it happened again, so everyone came out of the flat with their wands on hand. Except for Jacob, of course.

There was a guy outside. He looked terrified. When he saw the four of them he took a few steps back. Newt was worried, even tho he doesn't know him he couldn't help to be worried, he doesn't want to be.

"Who are you?" Tina asks.

The guy looked them with so much careful, trying to analyze everything about them. And he noticed the wands, so he took out his making them to do the same. He was shaking, his chest was moving so fast, he seemed to be out of breath, maybe he was running or escaping. Newt put his wand down and a hand up, trying to let him now that they won't hurt him, at least he won't hurt him. One step closer and the guy tightened his grip on his wand.

"Newt!" Jacob called, scared for his friend's life.

Newt didn't listen to him, he couldn't, he was so focused on the guy in front of him. Two steps more and the guy started to shake more.

"Relax, we aren't gonna hurt you. Please, put the wand down" The magizoologist took a few steps closer an put down the guy's wand himself. He seemed he wasn't able to, he was shaking so much.

Scamander felt weird. His chest felt weird, his stomach felt weird, his hands were shaking a bit and his wrist was so itchy. The only thing he knew that was happening to him was that he was so flustered looking at the jet black hair guy.

"That's not a real wand"

"You are witches"

Wow. Newt didn't see that coming. How did this muggle do to have a fake wand? Where does he come from? Maybe he's half witch half muggle? Maybe he knows a witch and they gave him this wand?

Then he felt like he had to say his name, introduce himself to this guy. Don't know why. Didn't even doubt to do it. He just went right to it.

"I'm Newt, Newt Scamander. I'm a magizoologist, I study magical creatures"

"I'm (Y/N). I'm just a normal guy without magic. I've been running away from thiefs, it's so scary. I have a fake wand because I'm not scared of witches, I admire them"

Newt felt something even stronger on his chest, like warm and his wrist was even more itchy almost hurtful. He didn't notice until now that they were making eye contact since they first looked at eachother. Newt broke it first to look down at his mark.

It was flashing. The dull dirty green came and go with a lime green. It was so weird, and something wanted to come out out of the stem but just couldn't.

He looked again at the jet hair boy and he was also looking at his mark. The same thing was happening to him and, oh, surprise! They have the same mark!

Without even saying a single word, they put their wrists together and slowly intertwined their fingers with each other's in a soft yet strong grip. They felt their marks even more itchy than before and suddenly. Nothing. Only the soft warm that his hands transmitted to the other. They separated their hands and looked at their marks. Now at the end of the stem was a blue tulip, it's petals and leaves were moving slightly and the outline shone just a little.

He has found his meant to be.

Important distinction regarding JKR and Holocaust denial

I think it's really important that we get the distinction here right, especially to be as effective as possible.
