Oh hey, while we're recommending other queer Youtubers to watch, along with discussing what we as viewers can take from this situation, Council of Geeks (she/they pronouns) has just put out a video!
youtube
CoG largely seems to cover Doctor Who, a show I do not watch, but also does a number of one-off videos on various topics like this!

Important distinction regarding JKR and Holocaust denial
I think it's really important that we get the distinction here right, especially to be as effective as possible.
"... that would fall under the category of Nazi crime denialism. Now, there is a reason I use that phrase in particular.
"She has not, at time of recording, engaged in holocaust denial. That needs to be made very clear. The holocaust very specifically refers to the crimes committed against the Jewish people by the Nazis.
"However, the holocaust was not the only crime committed by the Nazis. So while holocaust denial is a form of Nazi crime denial, not every Nazi crime denial is holocaust denial."
Vera Wylde - JK Rowling's Nazi crime denial and why it matters
I would highly encourage everyone to watch this video. She goes into a lot of detail and breaks down all of the proof that the Nazis burning that material did factually happen. It's a very well put together video.
Bonus for supporting her as a trans creator!

Council of Geeks did a video going through James's new apology, and Vera tries so hard to give James the benefit of the doubt in some places, but by and large remains entirely skeptical. While I understand wanting to do that, give someone the benefit of the doubt, I'm still so angry at James and don't think I will ever forgive him. Thank God I never gave him any money, I cannot imagine the depths of anger I'd have, and I feel so sorry for any who did.
Vera did make it clear that James has no future on YouTube, and that I agree with. I am someone who believes in redemption, and I don't wish ill on James, I just never want to hear or see him ever again. I just want him to go away and never return to a public platform. For good.
Anyway, that's my peace. Good night.

As someone who is, themself, a writer, I hate the tendency of writers to exalt the importance of poets, writers, and storytellers. "Words matter!" wrote the author, whose business is words. […] Here, the emphasis -- [The Doctor] may say 'Words matter,' but she's saying it while pointing at [Percy Bysshe Shelley] -- "We can't let this man die! We can't let this writer die!"
"Writers are too important!" wrote the writer.
Source: The Haunting of Villa Diodati (is overrated) - Take Two Doctor Who Review (YouTube. Uploaded 25 January, 2023. Transcribed from auto-generated captions, starting at 13:36. Eye contact).
The thing is: Stories are important -- I believe they are the central trait to our humanity.
But that means that every human is a storyteller -- not only the ones who get their stories written down, and get paid for them.
That's a weak point of Doctor Who's history episodes: it tends to fall into the trap of the Great Man theory of history. The unknown people around the famous person are allowed to die, to raise the stakes, and make the story scary. But no harm can come to the famous person at the center, lest "History is changed."

So I started to think about the fact that when it comes to romance in fiction, most writers feel like they have an obligation to include it rather than wanting to have fun including it, and they are more acustomed to create drama and obstacles that delay the couple getting together, but when they do get together, they either end the story there or, if the story continues, they don't use the romance to develop the characters and the narrative and, even tough the couple has good chemistry that makes their individual characters and dynamic interesting, instead make the couple break up again to milk the "will they or will they not drama" rather than going trough the hard work of writing the characters remaining in a romantic relationship while living the adventures of the plot.
This is the case with Egon and Janine: even tough they had a subtle chemistry that made them an interesting pair in the first movie, in the second movie the writers ignored that and paired Janine with Louis for no reason while expecting the audience to ignore the previous hints of romance her and Egon.
So I wanted to share three Youtube videos about how most writers take romantic subplots for granted yet have dificult writing romance on film and TV.
One is in spanish by mexican youtuber Proyeto Chaos focusing specifically in TV animation:
youtube
The second is in english by american Youtuber Red from Overly Sarcastic Productions and focuses on the dificulties of developing romantic subplots in media in general:
youtube
And the third is by the Youtube Channel Council of Geeks with specific focus on Romance in Superhero Comic Books:
