she pulls herself up and stands among the fallen bodies of her friends, her friends marred with blood, soaked in so much death that she could not recognize a friend's easy smile in the cold faces that remained. she stands alone amongst her closest companions and she sees only bodies crumpled like dolls by a force stronger than they had ever seen. in death they were nothing more than the crest that decorated their armor. she does not recognize her friend in the cold body below her, her friend who was so full of life. nora, gently, with softness that will not be felt, lifts a chain from around her friend's neck, pulling free a silver signet ring from its safe harbor under their torn armor. nora can do no more for the bodies, but as she pushes herself to her feet, she takes her friends with her, setting the chain to rest against her chest, feeling the chill of metal fight against the warmth of her beating heart.

her oath is not about revenge. her friends are dead, there is nothing that will bring them back. nora discards the armor that had kept her safe for so long. she had found community once by bearing the symbol of her battalion, how stupid of the farmer's daughter to not recognize the brand that marks beasts for slaughter. she would no longer allow herself to be marked. when she died, she would not die faceless.

Also, I finished part 10 RIGHT before a patch dropped, so here’s what’s in that real quick below the fold:

As was kinda predictable, the loporrits get the whole tribal quest thing (because no longer having to evacuate the whole world they’re largely bored, so you help them build a techno night club. No really.

You also help an alarming number of them explore their sexual kinks. Again, not making this up. In the random tribe quest rotation there’s one where a loporrit called Thrillingway needs you to make bondage ropes and acid and another where someone builds a dream-fulfilling robot which in testing shoves a “large metal carrot” down another’s throat. It’s kind of amazing. Also Hildibrand’s weird new alien friend makes a low poly count clone of him who’s actually competent.

Also apologies for not updating much this month. Needed some rest/lead time on my next big project. But... I guess if I’m encouraging people to try this thing I just dumped all this time into, I could do a quick follow-up talking about the gameplay? Any interest in me doing that?

BACKGROUND: nora was the only child of human farmers, who had a small farm with some livestock that did really just enough to get by. they hired a farmhand to help them and they'd sell goods at a market, but a lot of their own food and goods were from their farm. they didn't have a lot of money so nora didn't have much of an academic education and once she was old enough to help around the house and farm she was mostly homeschooled. she wasn't very educated but she worked hard and was strong, and that's all it took to enlist. becoming a soldier was fun for her at first—compared to farming it gave it a reliable wage that she could send home and she got to meet and train with people her own age. she'd play cards with friends in the barracks and her background gave her a good sense for the animals. having a strong, noble steed made her feel more important than having the tawny old workhorse on the farm (which she also loved). she fell nicely into her routine, forming close bonds with her cohort and taking good care of her armor, weapons, and health. until the rug was swept out from under her and her whole worldview changed.
