I have the most vivid image in my head (vivid is such a good word for barts) of barty with a facial tick, kinda like detective loki in prisoners( forgive me if you haven't seen it it's the only example I can think of rn) but like I can see bartys mannerisms so clearly like the way he'd have the most articulate fingers and be so expressive with his hands while he talks (because god knows the biggest load of garbage comes out his mouth because his very smart brain and very dumb mouth don't compute) and his very particular smiles and grins for different occasions and how the special people in his life know them all and the furrowing of one eyebrow in malice and both eyebrows in concentration. he. drives. me. mentalllll

wowow anon i’m solemnly shaking your hand over a businesslike coffee date because you’re so real… vivid IS the perfect word for him and you’ve nailed exactly why i always find him the most interesting to read. i love how expressive he is bc of the disconnect between his expressiveness & his actual feelings.. the machiavel is machiavelling etc etc… and then the intimacy of actually being able to read him. let’s ruminate on the tiniest nuances in his body language forever. i could write a dissertation on his left eyebrow.

What Norse myth books have you read already? I need new recs x

I don't think any of these are particularly new. Trying to make a list of all I've read. And granted, my attention span has gotten worse over the years.

The first book featuring the norse pantheon in any form I read was Neil Gaiman's "American Gods".

There's Diana Wynne Jones' "Eight Days of Luke" which served as inspiration for "American Gods", according to Neil Gaiman. Children's book.

There's also "Odd and the Frost Giants" by Neil Gaiman and his "Norse Mythology" retelling. Children's book.

I LOVED Louie Stowell's Loki: A Bad God's Guide to Being Good, if you have children or trouble getting through books, get this! It's hilarious and smart. I enjoyed it as an adult. Diary of a Wimpy Kid meets Norse mythology.

I enjoyed the first two books by Joanne Harris as a teen, "Runemarks" and "Runelight." The first two (esp. the first) are fun and I love the Bart Simpson-esque portrayal of Loki. Unfortunately, the quality of later books focusing on Loki is terrible.

I unfortunately read Joanne Harris' "The Testament of Loki", first chapter is interesting, but he's unwillingly sharing a body with an annoying teen girl, and the way Harris deals with eating disorders is really bad. It's awful. Don't recommend.

I think Lyra Wolf's The Nine Worlds rising series are an easy read. I think she has a great comedic voice and the books are worth reading just for that, and I like the toxic Odin/Loki relationship. I do have complaints about them, such as the anachronistic language (e.g. Loki knowing what a Chihuahua is), and that Sigyn doesn't have flaws other than caring too much for her no-good brother. She also has the women are either saints or evil witches dichotomy going on in terms of portrayals of goddesses. I think the stakes are good in these books so that you keep reading them.

I enjoyed Cat Rector's "The Goddess of Nothing at All" A LOT. While it doesn't have my ideal morally gray portrayal of Sigyn yet, it did make Sigyn more complex than others have. I also like this book mainly because I am a sadist and I love whump and there's a lot of suffering on it. It's so sad you won't be laughing at the myth!Loki memes. I would avoid this book if you don't like whump. I do have criticisms about it, such as her Loki was a bit too nice for my taste and could have been worse (making him justified for cutting Sif's hair feels forced; he can still be a loveable and tragic asshole, you know?). But my tragedy-loving self loves this!

I was looking forward to Genevieve Gornichec's "The Witch's Heart", it has a cute start of Loki giving Angrboda her burnt heart, but she criminally made Angrboda and Loki boring as fuck. Angrboda conveniently doesn't remember anything and just fumbles her way inside a cave for a large portion of the book. And she is the POV we're following. WE ARE STUCK IN A CAVE SHE WON'T LEAVE. Loki's portrayal in this is one of the most cisheteronormative I've seen yet, and it's surprising the author managed this in a story where Loki is impregnated by a horse and wears a dress (he impatiently yanks off because he felt emasculated). The author thinks having a lean build and no beard=queer. Loki only shows interest in women and feels emasculated while wearing a dress. I also happen to hate Skadi and her weird castration fetish in this book. Bitch wouldn't shut up about it. The good thing about this book is that there's no anachronisms, and I liked Hel's portrayal.

So confession, I had Kindle Unlimited trial briefly, and I read a bunch of Loki books, such as Lyra Wolf's.

I think(?) I read A.B. Frost's "Father of Monsters". It was quite short, but has nice illustrations, and Loki's endearing, even if a little shit. That both takes one for the team and also endangers the team.

I read (partially) some book about Loki escaping his punishment early and rejoining the Aesir, but it was criminally boring (it never described how Loki got out of situations and the prose was incredibly VAGUE) and seemed geared towards Norse pagans(Which I AM NOT). Had a spiritual conflict-avoiding vibe. It was called "Loki" but forgot the author's name and I accessed for free by Kindle Unlimited. I also didn't like that it referred to cops as "Tyr's warriors". FUCK COPS.

I have not finished reading Mike Vasich's "Loki". I think the man thinks MCU Loki is accurate to Norse mythology, because that's the only Loki I could picture (and he was adopted by Odin). And man spent way too long describing sensing "power levels" that I ended up getting bored and stopped reading. I've also seen some amusing excerpt from another of his books I have not read. But, if you're an author, don't spend a lot of time describing power levels, FFS! You'll bore the fuck out of your readers.

Disney Gives Springfield Holiday Joy With The Simpsons Meet The Bocellis In ‘Feliz Navidad A Brand New Original Short Streaming Dec 15.

Disney has announced that Christmas is coming early this year for fans of “The Simpsons!” as Disney+ has announced that the new short “The Simpsons meet the Bocellis in ‘Feliz Navidad’” will launch on December 15th exclusively on the streaming service.

In the upcoming short from Homer surprises Marge with the ultimate gift: an unforgettable performance from Italian opera superstar Andrea Bocelli and his 25-year-old son Matteo and 10-year-old daughter Virginia.

The festivities continue December 17th 2022 as “The Simpsons” celebrates 33 years since its first episode aired in 1989. All 33 seasons of “The Simpsons” are currently available to stream on Disney+.

“The Simpsons meet the Bocellis in ‘Feliz Navidad’” is the latest in a collection of shorts from “The Simpsons” created exclusively for Disney+.

The previously released shorts “Welcome to the Club,” “When Billie Met Lisa”, “Maggie Simpson in ‘The Force Awakens from Its Nap’”, “The Good, The Bart, and The Loki” and “The Simpsons in Plusaversary” are currently available on Disney+.

Comics this week?

Steelworks #1 - Solid first issue. Dorn makes some rookie mistakes as expected from a first time comic writer. Lot of talking, not much action, the scenes with Irons and Nat debating the impact of superheroics would have been better served if it had been the two of them verbally sparring with each other while physically beating up some bad guys. Good handle on the voices for Steel, Natasha, and Lana nonetheless, happy to see Pak's establishment of the Steel/Lana romance is finally acknowledged again. Ghost of Amertek coming back to haunt Irons is a good idea, as is Dorn establishing that Irons has his own ideas on what's best for Metropolis that aren't the same as Clark's. Didn't expect Dorn to be the first DC writer to use data pages post-Hickman, but I loved to see them! I can't find much info on if Dorn was a sci-fi fan before he was cast as Worf in Star Trek, but if so his use of data pages would make a lot of sense.

Batman #136 - Least the Multiverse bullshit is over, but now we've gone from rehashing Morrison to rehashing Snyder's Death of the Family. If that scene between Bruce and Selina is any indication, this Gotham War event will be the final nail in the coffin for the romance, at least for a good while. Bummed but unsurprised by that. At this point I'm only reading for the Zur plotline, the Batfamily and Catwoman plots aren't interesting me.

Shazam #2 - Didn't think that when Waid said we'd see the extended family relatively soon that he meant the second issue, but it was nice to see them all the same.

Flash #800 - Picked this up and overall I enjoyed it. Adams and Waid were the best, fun stories that celebrated Wally and Bart. Williamson was pretty good too, Barry finally gets to best the deadbeat dad accusations when it comes to the Tornado Twins. Johns' story was pretty basic, mostly just a recap of who Hunter is, but I liked how he took Williamson's retcon and used it to get Zoom back to being a villain in a way that makes sense. With Zoom back in play I wonder if there are plans to use him in Spurrier's run. Speaking of which, Spurrier's story was the weakest. I don't mind the drama with Linda - Adams made everything drama free and the sales were soft, so by all means introduce some tension there - and I liked the premise of Wally fighting Lovecraftian monsters. But this feels like it would be a better fit for Barry. I'll check out the first issue all the same.

Joker #9 - Hilarious that this book finally starts moving on the Jokers plot, just in time for a two month break for Knight Terrors. I don't know if I'll bother to pick it up again in two months, Rosenberg's decompression has become too much for me. Genuinely funny back-ups and one or two good jokes in the main book can't justify the price tag, or the snail's pace storytelling.

Immortal X-Men #12 - More is done with Colossus' mole status in one issue here than the entire X-Force run.

X-Men #23 - I regret giving Duggan a stay of execution. Why does Stasis keep coming across as a loser? Gets taken out with ease in Sins of Sinister, gets humiliated by Righteous here. Since Hickman left, Orchis has come across as a joke that the X-Men inexplicably can't crush instead of a legit threat. Not a great approach as we're right on the cusp of Orchis making their big move.

Loki #1 - Picked this up solely because Watters was writing, and he did not disappoint. Great story, reminiscent of Gillen and Ewing Loki of course, but also of Watters own Lucifer series.

Fantastic Four #8 - Continues to be great, glad the first two parter stars Sue and Alice.

I love that my favorite colors are 100% the colors my favorite characters at the time are associated with. this actually documents perfectly from when I started high school, through college, up to now. unfortunately the gap between 2020 and 2022 means my toa obsession does not get recorded. I might continue this. we’ll see when I find it again. although I probably won’t update this post

What do you think of the Loki Simpsons short?

I liked it, it was entertaining enough. It was a lot shorter than I thought it would be though. I mean it when I said it got Loki's character better than the actual Loki series.

The Simpsons’ “The Good, the Bart, and the Loki”, a six minute special, really said, “We can do Loki better than his own show”, huh?

He looks like Loki, wears his colors, and has smarts and wit.

He gets to use his magic: shapeshifting, matter manipulation, cloning, transporting Lisa to Asgard.

His relationship with his family is tapped into, and he ends up with a new one, which apparently accepts and appreciates him.

And he has the same reaction to the TVA as we do.

I love that they’re pulling their punches even less these days.

Disney Sets New The Simpsons Short For Disney+ Day.

Disney has announced a brand new short featuring “The Simpsons” called, “Welcome To The Club”, which will be released on Disney+ Day.

At last year’s Disney+ Day, a new short called, “The Simpsons in Plusaversary” was released.  And Disney+ has also had some other original shorts released on Disney+, including “When Billie Met Lisa”. “Maggie Simpson in ‘The Force Awakens from Its Nap’” and “The Good, The Bart, and The Loki”.
