Cyberchase Character Discussion (for your local Cyberchase trivia quiz) - #6: Slider
Alright, here's your boy.
It's about time I got around to him, right? He's, what, the most popular character in the whole show?
Slider was one of a slate of characters introduced in Season 3. So, he didn't get an original "Meet the Cybersquad" entry. His first ever appearance would have been on the Cyberchase website during their "Who's New?" promotion. We get to see Slider and Creech, who both went on to appear in numerous episodes. We also get to see Nero the Animal Hero, Mister Z, Roxy, and Sheldon. I don't think those four have appeared since their debut episodes.
So, what did we learn about Slider here?
Lives in Radopolis
Loves to skateboard and is really good at it
Can fix anything
That's not alot to go on. With how Radopolis is, the second point is kind of redundant. Later on, they did give us more facts on his official trading card.
He's 13 years old (or is that Cyber-years?). We'll assume that this makes him older than the Earth Brats. His favorite color is red. He enjoys speed (going fast), string cheese, and sneakers. He dislikes busy-bodies and The Hacker, with an emphasis on The Hacker. He's great at skateboarding and building stuff.
His favorite line is just "Cool." To be fair, he doesn't seems like the sort of person to bother with a proper catch phrase.
Slider appeared for the first time during the gang's second trip to Radopolis, in Season 3 Episode 2 "Borg of the Ring". When he first shows up, he rescues Inez, Matt, and Jackie from a tire avalanche. He is notably unconcerned about the chaos unfolding on Radopolis. It's only after they mention The Hacker and/or The Totally Rad Ring, that he accepts that he has to do something about this.
Matt: Thanks for saving us.
Slider: (smiles, nods, and starts to leave)
Nezzie: Wait, you can't just leave us here! We need a ride!
Slider: Not my problem
Jackie: But we have to stop Hacker! He has the totally Rad Ring!
Slider: Just became my problem.
We know that The Hacker used the Rad Ring to remove everyone's wheels. Slider has a substitute for a wheel on his board, in the form of an aluminum can. This suggests that he has already been impacted by The Hacker's actions. And yet, he needs further motivation to get involved. It makes me wonder if he was testing that can as a replacement to the wheel, skated off while lost in his own head, and didn't notice everyone else's wheels disappearing around him.
Of course, we have to talk about Jackie and Inez immediately crushing on him.
This is something that continued into the series. He looks confused or weirded out in the show.
In also continued in Ron Barrett's official comic, "The Great Cyber-skate". He's shown to be oblivious to what's going on here.
"Borg of the Ring" also introduces his rivalry with Matt. Well, okay, it was more of a one-sided rivalry where Matt was being an ass and Slider barely noticed, but we got some good Matt faces.
We also get this shot, where Matt and Slider are racing to Point Dune, and Slider overtakes Matt easily.
Relax shippers. They just met. This is a children's educational show.
Which one of you drew that?
Anyway, back in "Borg of the Ring", we get a scene where Digit is trying to figure out how to make the ring. Matt offers to show him how. And then, something odd happens.
Slider: We need to adjust the radius.
Digit: Uh-huh, what am I missing here?
Matt: Don't worry Didge. The radius is the distance from the center point out to the edge of the circle. To change how big or small a circle is, just change the radius. I'll show you.
Slider: Nevermind. I'll make it. And I've got just the tool to do it.
Yeah, Slider got sick of listening to the lesson of the episode and just interrupted it. Is that allowed?
Okay, I've put it off long enough. Let's talk about Slider's dad.
We first hear about Slider's dad in "Snelfu Snafu Part 1", where Slider finds the Syncholator and a note from dad telling him to use it to find him.
However, he accidentally uses the ID code for the Encryptor Chip, which reveals that it is on an auction site. At the same time, we just had a radio contact from Dr. Marbles stating that he found the chip. This leads to a short scene that I had forgotten about until now.
Slider: Maybe he (Dr. Marbles) is the one selling the chip.
Digit: Never!
Slider: Cyborgs have been known to switch sides, you know?
Slider immediately goes with the idea that Dr. Marbles, Motherboard's technician/husband(?) has betrayed her. The Encryptor Chip is the only thing that can cure Motherboard, and Slider speculates that Dr. Marbles is trying to sell the chip for personal gain instead.
Near the end of "Snelfu Snafu Part 2", Slider assembles the Syncholator with additional parts to amplify its power. They need to use it to locate and retrieve the Encryptor Chip to recover Motherboard's soul. However, the modifications means that the Syncholator will burn out after one use.
Jackie: Wait a minute. Is there somebody else you need to find?
Slider: My dad. I was going to use the Syncholator to try to locate him
Slider: But if I'm ever going to have a chance to find him, Motherboard needs to be saved first.
As far as I know, this is the first time Slider tells Matt, Jackie, and Inez even a little bit of his tragic back-story. And the show takes his sacrifice of the Syncholator seriously.
Anyway, before we really dig into "Measure for Measure", let's have Matt and Slider get in way over their heads trying to babysit Podlings.
For the purposes of keeping this short and relatively focused, I won't go into too much detail about Slider and Coop's story. However, I will hit the high points.
Back in the day, The Hacker and Coop worked together on a device called the Transformatron, which could transform one thing into another. However, Coop realized that The Hacker was going to use the Transformatron to take over Cyberspace. So, Coop ripped up the plans and sent them elsewhere.
The Hacker took his revenge by swapping Coop's helmet for one made of red magnetite. This damaged Coop's hard drive, causing him to age prematurely.
Coop knew that the magnetite was dangerous enough to harm Slider. So, he left Slider behind in Radopolis, while he went into hiding on Discardia to develop a cure for magnetite poisoning.
The show never states how long Coop and Slider were separated. Keep in mind that Slider is only 13 when we meet him. Slider doesn't appear to have any other family or any sort of support network before the Earthlies show up. At some point, Coop learned that the cure to magnetite poisoning requires magnetite as an ingredient. However, borgs cannot work with magnetite. It's not clear whether Coop came up with any plans after this point, or if he gave up completely.
And then, Digit and the Earthlies arrived. They are immune to magnetite and able to finally mix the cure for Coop.
Yeah, The Hacker comes along, poisons Slider with red magnetite right in front of Coop, and takes Slider as a hostage. We learn that red magnetite damage causes Slider's feet to grow very large, preventing him from running away.
Hacker: Now I have the NIC and your son. Welcome to your worst nightmare, my old friend.
Yeah, this whole storyline is shockingly dark for a children's educational show. I'm glad that they made it. I don't believe I watched this back when it came out, but I would have found it amazing as a kid. I think most kids, either back then, or today, would be able to handle it just fine.
We get a happy ending. The Earthlies are able to save Slider, recover the NIC, and even heal Coop's own magnetite poisoning. And so, Coop and Slider were re-united and ready to get back to skateboarding.
Matt appears to have let go of his one-sided rivalry with Slider. The last episode containing such a rivalry was Season 6 Episode 6 "Team Spirit", where Team Motherboard competes in the Olympics . With Jackie injured, Slider needed to come in to substitute. All the data suggested that Matt needed to handle the swimming section, while Slider needed to handle the final run up to finish line.
Matt was committed to making the final run himself, to the point of refusing to compete. As they needed three people to compete, this selfish decision would have caused Team Motherboard to forfeit.
This wasn't really about Slider as much as it was down to Matt wanting to prove himself to his hero, Zeus. Near the end of the episode, while Matt is thinking it over, Slider comes forward to say something. However, before he can say it, Matt stops him and agrees to give the final run to the finish line to Slider, for the good of the team.
With those stories wrapped up, what else can we say about Slider. Well, there is something unusual here. Let's put him next to Matt for a moment.
Let's take his shirt off real quick.
Let's take Matt's shirt off as well.
Alright, now let's put Slider next to our other favorite Cyborg child, Creech.
For a Cyborg child, Slider just looks like an Earth Brat. If you needed to ding him on something, it would be his rectangular eyes. That's not a pre-requisite for Cyborg children, as Creech has oval eyes. However, we don't see any humans with that style of eyes.
I doubt that there is any real push to change Slider's model. I'm not pushing to change Slider's model. Still, this was kind of a strange choice, especially considering that Creech and Slider both arrived in Season 3. Why does Slider look almost human, while Creech gets the antennae and circuit-board-trace treatment that more closely aligns her with the Cyborgs?

Uncle Hacker AU
I literally cannot get this idea out of my head.
Hacker, pre-corruption, is literally best friends with Coop right? So obviously Coop introduces his little boy Slider to his best friend, and Hacker becomes Slider’s psudo-uncle. Story line continues the same, Coop tearing up the plans once he figures out what they’re really for and disappearing, and Slider alone and searching. But now there’s another element to it. Hacker constantly mocking the pre family ties, a bit more mistrust from the cybersquad as they learn, and maybe Hacker trying to get Slider to become his apprentice much to the hatred of Ledge who would be so angry asking “What does he have that I don’t!”
I’m thinking something like Slider yelling “Just leave me alone Hacker! I don’t know where the encriper chip is!” And Hacker just replies with “That’s UNCLE Hacker to you!” While the Cybersquad is left scrambling for answers.
IDK man Just an AU stuck in my head that I think has potential. :0)
Also if anyone interacts or adds to this post in literally any way I will go !!!!!!!!!! :0 and get instant dopamine.

Ok 9 to 5 au..
Is Slider basically a hostage?? Could he run away? how many years realistically will it take to pay off the debt? Like it’s Hacker, it’s gotta be a lot, no??
If you feel like writing a bit… first meeting with the squad? Do the girls see him as the attractive bad boy at first now, instead of regular attractive guy?
Digit is more suspicious of him? Maybe Matt?
is he wracking up a criminal record? Does he get to coop eventually in this au? Hacker builds the transformation faster in this au? ik that was a lot haha srry
This'll be a long one so buckle up boys~
Nah! *technically* he could leave at any time. He just would have no where to live and working for Hacker pays the debt off faster.
Oh gosh... for time it would take to pay off... Honestly, if Hacker doesn't end up just trying to scam him to be a worker for life, probably well into his adulthood as he has to pay back back what Coop owes, and then also hopes to fully buy back the garage from Hacker, so basically double what he owed in Snelfu Snafu.
The Squad + digit is definitely more suspicious of him at first, I mean, he *does* work for Hacker! He would try and play it off with shrugs, half smiles, and a sarcastic comment, but after more than a few helpful "accidents" and general hostility, they'd definitely poke at his story and try to figure out his deal, not understanding why he wouldn't just *leave*.
Jackie definitely thinks he's this cute older guy when they first meet him, inez following suit with higher suspicion, but they'd see him as the attractive, misunderstood bad guy. Matt would take a little longer to warm up to Slider but eventually and maybe a bit begrudgingly, would have a soft spot for the older borg.
Slider does get in trouble and builds a reputation as one of Hacker's henchmen, but never intentionally or cruelly. The first time, Hacker told him he'd chop fifty snelfus off his debt if he guarded a machine, and Slider gave him a salute and was on top of things. He guarded it as he watched the earth kids blow it up. Then it was gone, so he left.
I think eventually everything would work out for him in the end, and he and Coop would find each other. That's another reason why he's working, because if Coop suddenly appeared, they'd have no home, no work, nothing. Which, of course, doesn't help Slider already feeling like a disappointment.
As for the Transformatron I don't think he would because Slider wouldn't find the NIC so it'd still be hidden away with the map in the garage! But there's always a chance of Hacker finding it faster because he'd have free reign of the garage. Slider would've probably kept the picture close to him, however, because of sentimental value, and Hacker would see no reason to take it as it'd be worthless to him.
Thanks for the ask!!! :^D

The Borg of Both Worlds Ch. 1
Synopsis || After being defeated once and for all, Hacker decides the only thing for him to do is go to the real world and give the Earth brats a bit of grief. Jackie ends up being the main target for his new spree of mischief, but could there be more to the borg than meets the eye?
"There it is!" Matt cried, holding up his skwak so his friends could see what he was approaching on the path ahead. "The Transformatron."
Jackie looked up from her device to see the rear of the machine in the distance. "I see it!" She quickened her pace, only to see Matt and Inez approaching from the other direction and being stopped by Buzz and Delete. The lanky bot shot out his arms, restraining her two friends in their coils.
"Oh little Earth brat!" the robot sang, looking around for the one who would complete his set. "Come out, come out wherever you are!"
Thinking fast, Jackie dove behind the giant machine, away from the gaze of the henchmen. She could feel the arid ground and its jagged pebbles underneath her palms as she landed hard on the ground of her hiding place. The grunts of her friends trying to get free and shouting directions at her turned into muffled screams as she guessed one of the bots must have tied something around their mouths.
The girl shut her eyes and did her best to stay quiet and relax her breathing. She needed to find the right moment to grab the NIC and shut down the machine, and quick. Hacker was long gone having turned himself into a Quetzalcoatlus, a giant flying robotic dinosaur or reptile or whatever it was. The point was that it was absolutely huge and heading straight towards Control Central. Jackie had seen him herself as she and her friends were triangulating on the location of the machine.
For months the Cybervillain had been intent on rebuilding this machine, going so far as to completely tear down Slider and Coop's garage to retrieve the NIC. As a result Motherboard had taken the chip into custody and attempted to dispose of it, only for Digit to be intercepted while on his way to the blackhole. Ever since he'd briefly taken over Cyberspace by duping the cybersquad with a fake Encryptor Chip, Hacker had been executing one close call after another in an attempt to regain control. There were days Jackie feared he'd succeed, or worse, find his way to Earth and wreak untold havoc on everything she cared about.
Opening her eyes again, she gathered up her courage and peered out from behind the machine. Buzz and Delete had given up searching the clearing, but were still standing in wait for her to show herself. If only she could get a view of the front of the machine so she could see where the NIC was and grab it without ever coming out of hiding. But there was also the matter of distracting the bots so she could rescue her friends.
She pulled her head back quickly as Delete seemed to turn in her direction. Confident he hadn't seen her, she waited a moment before slowly peering out again. There had been something she'd noticed in the moments before that she needed to check.
Yes, it was as she'd suspected, she could actually see the reflection of the front of the machine in Delete's polished cylindrical body. There was no NIC, but if she could just scoot over to the other side for a look, she might be able to catch a glimpse.
As quietly as she could, Jackie crept towards the other side of the Transformatron and looked again. Any image she could see was distorted, but she thought she could just make out the shape of the green card sticking out of a disc port. All she needed to do was remove it and any active transformations would be reversed.
Waiting for the two henchmen to turn away, she reached around the width of the machine and felt around for the card. It didn't take long for her to take hold of it and give it a hard yank only to find it wouldn't budge! Desperate, she forewent her hiding place and started pulling harder, not caring whether Buzz and Delete saw her. She could probably outrun the two of them anyhow if it came down to it.
"Found ya!" Delete cried with glee as Buzz made a beeline to tackle her. With a third pull, this time throwing nearly her entire body weight into it, she managed to get the chip out, losing her balance and landing on her back in the dirt. As the two bots descended on her, she did the only thing she could think to do and flung the NIC towards the forest of bare brambles like a frisbee. The bots' eyes widened as both scrambled to retrieve their boss's macguffin.
"I got it!"
"No, no, me!"
In his haste, Delete let go of Matt and Inez to reach for the NIC. He stretched out his arms and started to run, colliding with Buzz and accidentally pushing over the machine as they crashed into it. Seeing that they were incapacitated for the moment, Matt ran towards the brambles to retrieve the NIC while the girls watched to make sure the two henchmen didn't try and go after him. As they waited for him to return, Jackie spotted a portal appear behind them. This wasn't over. She was positive Hacker had already made it to Control Central and transformed or not there was still him left to deal with.
3 months later...
Jackie curled up on the bed, trying to wipe her puffy and reddened face dry of the tears that had been running down all day. She bunched her comforter up into a ball and brought it close to her chest to hug. It had been a, in short, chaotic few months and she had just about come to her breaking point. Her first year of high school had started with her and her mother getting the news that her father had passed. He’d been in the air force, deployed when Jackie was just eleven. She had been so proud of him, excited for him to come back and tell her all about how he took down the bad guys. That was before she herself started fighting bad guys. Even when it was just her and her mother, she had been happy. Keeping in contact with her dad through letters and waiting for news of when he'd finally be able to come home.
And three months ago he had. At the time there had been a funeral with her father’s friends from the military and superiors. She had just returned from another, a smaller, private family affair attended by her father's extended family from the south. For the first few weeks after they'd gotten the news, her mother had been almost inconsolable, and when she'd finally begun to pick herself up again, it was just to work. It was just the two of them now, after all. Though sometimes it felt to Jackie like she was on her own. Between being the perfect student, perfect gymnast, perfect pianist, perfect daughter, she just felt tired.
Tomorrow was Sunday and between her and her mother visiting the funeral home and all her other after school obligations, she hadn't even had a chance to look at her weekend assignments. She doubted she'd feel better in the morning either. What she really needed was some time to herself otherwise she'd just spend the whole day sulking around her room.
After washing her face at the bathroom sink, she returned to her room and sat down at the computer. Perched atop the screen was what appeared to be a webcam. It was actually something Dr. Marbles had made and gifted to her, a direct link to Motherboard's portal system in Cyberspace so she could come and go as she pleased. It was late at night and she didn't want to disturb her friends who were probably already asleep. It wasn't as if Motherboard was calling them for something important anyways.
Double clicking the icon of a portal on her desktop opened up a black pop up which quickly filled with dozens of lines of green text as the program activated. She got up from her chair and gave the lens of the webcam a twist until a laser shot out of it. Taking a step back, she watched as a portal took shape in her bedroom, the purple energy growing in size until it was big enough to pull her in.
After a familiar tumble through the vacuum she'd come to know as Motherboard's domain, the place where the cyber ruler herself resided, she landed in the audience chamber of Control Central. The usual lights that filled the room had been dimmed. It looked like everyone in Cyberspace had put on sleep mode for the night. Probably for the best since she didn't really feel like talking to anyone at the moment. Instead she headed for the kitchen, hoping she could just sit there for a few hours and make herself a little snack while she decompressed.
The kitchen at Control Central had always reminded Jackie of one of those office break rooms she'd seen on TV. It had all the essentials, but was much more bare bones than what one would expect from the ruler of the Cyberuniverse. Then again, it wasn't as if Motherboard herself used it much. Or at all. One glance at the plethora and variety of kitchen utensils strung about said that this was Digit's domain. Inside the refrigerator were fruits and vegetables of every variety, some that Jackie didn't even recognize though she'd been coming to Cyberspace for years now. The cybird prided himself on making almost every meal completely from scratch meaning the only ready to eat thing Jackie could find was a carton of yogurt.
The packaging caused her to make a face. Goat milk yogurt? She'd never heard of such a thing. And what kind of flavor was butter pecan? Still, it was the only thing she could dig up and the only thing that might take her mind off her mental exhaustion. She peeled back the foil top and absent-mindedly started to eat while letting her thoughts wander, enjoying the ambience of Control Central after hours. She must have fallen asleep or been close to as she felt herself jump all of a sudden as footsteps could be heard echoing from somewhere down the long hallway.
Although the sound of the metallic clanging caused her to feel slightly uneasy, she didn't attempt to move from her seat. She had always felt safe in Control Central, under the watchful eye of Motherboard, if nowhere else in the world. Even as the footsteps appeared to draw closer she didn't move from her seat and it wasn't until the sliding doors parted that she even looked up from her midnight snack. When she did, what she saw nearly caused her spoon to fall from her gaping jaws.
Jackie didn't know whether to speak up or stay silent and hope he didn't notice her. She didn't exactly feel like starting a conversation, least of all with him. Deciding to shrink into her shoulders and keep her eyes fixed on her yogurt, she watched as the borg shuffled his way up to the refrigerator and opened it. He seemed to be looking for something in particular as he started digging around in the back and opening the drawers at the bottom. The ticking of the wall clock over Jackie's head sounded like the footsteps of the executioner as he approached to fetch her for the block. Like an owl in the night, the borg's head slowly craned towards the presence she sensed in the room, meeting her gaze with the intent of seizing an elusive piece of prey.
"That was mine!" he spat as he snatched up the already empty yogurt container. "Don't you Earth brats have your own universe to infest? Who gave you permission to come here to steal from me in the middle of the night?"
"It's not like it was labeled," Jackie muttered, the spoon still dangling apathetically from her teeth. With everything that had been on her mind lately, she hadn't even thought of running into the so-called ex-cybervillain as a possibility.
When the Transformatron's effects had worn off, he'd crash landed through the glass dome that shielded the control room and onto the walkway leading up to Motherboard's monitor. With his internal hardware badly damaged and no way of escaping, the borg reluctantly issued his surrender, after which the Ruler of Cyberspace had decided to keep him imprisoned to prevent him from causing further trouble. He had long since been patched up but remained confined to Control Central. This was the first Jackie had even seen of him in so many months.
"I wasn't aware I had to label things in my own fridge!" he sneered. Despite Motherboard having officially declared him as no longer a threat to the Cyberuniverse, he looked and acted much the same as ever. Mean and green. Although he'd switched his cape out for a dark red bathrobe.
"Motherboard's refrigerator," Jackie corrected, folding her arms and refusing to budge an inch.
"Right. Like she uses it all the time."
Before Jackie could think of a clever retort she heard a loud metallic pop, signaling that the lights of the audience chamber had been switched on. Not long after, a familiar voice was heard blasting through the corridors. "Hacker!"
The ex-villain's shoulders tensed as he grumbled something under his breath. Jackie couldn't help flash a smug smile and offer a little wave as she watched him storm towards the door. To her surprise, he stopped as soon as they slid open. "Why don't you come in here yourself?!" he shouted, before turning back to the kitchen abruptly. This prompted Jackie to follow his gaze which seemed to fall on a small monitor which hung from the ceiling at one corner of the room. The screen powered on, displaying the image of the cyber ruler herself.
She looked better now. Healthy. Her screen, no longer flickering and distorting and her speech coming through strong and coherent. As she stared down at her son, her gaze radiated displeasure. Hacker who barely seemed to flinch just strolled over to the monitor and pulled it down to eye level.
"Do not raise your voice to her. Jackie is a welcome guest at Control Central and Cyberspace."
"Says who?" he spat. "I didn't welcome her. And she clearly hasn't been house trained." He raised the empty yogurt cup up to the screen and started waving it around, making sure Motherboard got a good look at it before flinging it into the trash.
"Hey! I'm not a dog!" the girl protested although neither of the adults in the room seemed to pay mind to her as they continued to talk between themselves.
"If you wished to have any say in that, you shouldn't have spent the last three years systematically attempting to destroy everything you were supposed to protect!" Jackie had rarely seen Motherboard angry and even though she wasn't the target of her ire, the girl couldn't help shrink a little, averting her gaze as she waited for them to finish. The woman's demeanor could get downright frigid when she got serious.
For a moment she wondered if it would have been best for her to leave as it seemed their conversation was getting somewhat personal. Whether it was the worry it would look rude for her to just up and leave, or just downright curiosity to catch the extent of their conversation, she decided to stay put. Her mother had always accused her, albeit affectionately, of being a little gossip. Despite all the time she'd spent in the binary realm, she'd heard very little about the time before Hacker had been banished. With Motherboard having been sick for most of the duration, and afterwards everything that had gone on in her own life, it never really felt like an appropriate time. Although she felt no sympathy for the former cybervillain, she couldn't help but wonder what had gone on between the two.
"Jackie, Matt and Inez have been doing your job since you decided it wasn't worth doing. You abandoned your duty and lost any right to have a say in these matters. As of now, their right here supersedes yours."
"Is that so? When was the last time they checked for disk error? Done a security patch? Upgraded the firewall?" he said, fixing a condescending gaze at the girl.
"Doctor Marbles did that last week," she interjected defensively, unwilling to allow the borg any kind of leg up.
"Not correctly."
"Enough!" The force in the woman's tone silenced the both of them. "I'd hoped the years would have changed you, Hacker."
"How convenient that would be for your cause," the borg retorted, his voice oozing melodrama. "Your virus cured and your wayward son groveling at your feet."
"Do you only have the capability to think of yourself?!"
"Yes." There was not a trace of hesitation in the man's tone as he gave his reply, only the bitterness of his decades long grudge.
Jackie felt a chill run through her at his callousness. Hacker might not have caused trouble since his defeat, but it was plain that chaos and wicked deeds were still on his mind. As upset as she could sometimes get at her own mother for, frankly silly things, she could never imagine having the level of disregard and... hate that Hacker seemed to have. She glanced up at Motherboard to see the cyber ruler had shut her eyes, her forehead pinched just above the brow as she struggled to keep from completely losing her temper.
"If you are utterly incapable of seeing reason, we have nothing left to discuss."
"The first meaningful thing you've said today." He took a step away from the screen before turning his back to the two of them and leaving the way he'd come.
Somehow, Jackie felt she'd overstayed her welcome, although she knew Motherboard would disagree. She'd come to Cyberspace to try and get away from all the stress. Instead she'd found herself in the middle of a situation probably even more unpleasant. This was the opposite of decompressing. With a sigh she started to head towards the door as well.
"Jackie? You don't have to leave." With Hacker's exit, Motherboard's tone and manner had softened considerably.
"It's getting late, so I should be getting to bed. Sorry about—" She gestured towards the empty yogurt container in the trash before glancing out at the hallway, almost feeling that just thinking about him would summon his presence back into the room with further retorts.
"That wasn't your fault. He had it coming."
"Is it really okay for him to hang around like this? As long as he's here, all of Cyberspace is still in danger."
"You let me worry about that," the AI reassured her. "Jackie , if there's anything you want to discuss you shouldn't hold it in. You have friends. Let them be there for you."
Jackie slowly nodded, feeling a bit ridiculous for all the worry she'd caused. Maybe she should call Matt and Inez in the morning. Not to talk about her problems. That was the last thing she wanted to do. But just to hang out. It had been a while since all three of them had been together.
"Thanks Mother B."
"Goodnight, Jackie." The Ruler of Cyberspace vanished from the screen, her image replaced with a swirling pink portal. Jackie could feel the force from within pulling at her. She stepped into it and a moment later was back in her chair in front of the computer. Only about a minute had passed since she'd been gone.
Taking in a breath, Jackie did her best to clear her mind and get ready for bed. Life would always be full of little problems and some not so little. She had to learn to move past them right? She was one of the top students in her school, had a wonderful mother, and great friends. The pain she felt was temporary and it would soon pass.
After arranging her comforters in a neat stack atop the bed, she crawled in and closed her eyes. Sleep was slow to come and she tossed and turned for what must have been at least an hour before she finally dozed off.
The next morning she rose to the sound of her alarm. Still groggy after the restless night she'd had, she'd dragged herself out of bed and to the bathroom to wash up and put on a light layer of makeup. Once she had herself looking presentable, she headed downstairs for breakfast, wondering what she should text Matt and Inez later that day. With their busy lives, they would usually run off to Cyberspace for a few hours as a break, but after the events of the night before, she didn't feel like leaving her own world. It wasn't that she thought the chances of running into Hacker were high, she just didn't want to be reminded of being stuck in the middle of whatever that was.
She'd scarcely set a foot in the kitchen before she noticed she wasn't alone. Letting out a shriek of alarm, she leapt backwards, colliding with the refrigerator as she turned to face the stranger who had appeared at her breakfast table. His face was one she was certain she'd never seen before but there was still something much too familiar about him. What it was became apparent as soon as he spoke.
"Hello, Earth-brat!"

@skykaykay yes I do have a Cyberchase reboot fic idea! Though it’s not quite as developed as some of my other ideas, I do have some plot threads to follow.
First a quick summary of the reboot: Rather than an edutainment show it’d be a bit more plot heavy. The kids are stuck in cyberspace until Motherboard’s repaired, Hacker’s a lot more dangerous, and there will be some more emotional... bits. Also will most likely be a more modern take on the show, as well as have some more action to it. Also at least Jackie and Matt would be older, though Inez might also receive a small age up.
Hacker intends to kill Motherboard and take her place, there by taking over the internet and the human race. Whether this would work or not, idk. But he does become more and more unhinged the more the kids defeat him later on in the show.
There is a romance plot with Slider. The girls both like him cause he’s cool, though all romantic interactions with him would have the undercurrent of “This won’t be permanent cause we’ll go home eventually and never return” and “We’d only have a chance if we never, ever went home”.
Last thought I had was the reveal of Digit originally working for Hacker being more emotional. It gets revealed in a different way, so the betrayal hits harder and it would lead to a short subplot that ends with a stronger bond between the main four characters.
Don’t have much of an idea for an ending, but I know Hacker does take over at least briefly before they finally delete him for good. Maybe Motherboard comes back, or someone else takes over(maybe Digit?)
Character arcs: Don’t have much for this, except maybe Digit gaining more confidence? Something connected to him being created by Hacker? Idk really it would require a bit more research into their canon characters before I can develop them for the reboot.
And if you’ve gotten to the end of this, congrats! Here are the other fandoms I’ve had ideas for:
Dragontales reboot.
Chalkzone sequel.
Barney fic(yes the purple dinosaur and no not like that other one where Barney is a legit monster).
Fairly Oddparents AU where Poof is actually a Fairy college student.
And a Woody Woodpecker live action movie rewrite, cause my Mom loved the cartoon, I enjoyed the cartoon, and what they did to it in that shitty movie was Bad.

belated: drarreckyninja’s top 50 ships of Jun 2022 [40. Crenez]
Fandom(s): Cyberchase
Pairing: Creech x Inez
Image:

Estimated Age Difference(s): According to the fandom wiki, Creech is 11 like Matt and Jackie, while Inez is listed as 9 (I thought she was 8), so turns out, 2 years.
Subship(s): Slackie [Slider x Jackie]
Deligit [Delete x Digit]
Zarmony [Zoreen x Harmony]
Amount I've Invested: I have been watching this program off and on (mostly on) since it began. I think. Well, I stopped watching it at one point and then came back to a new episode with Hacker's niece Harmony, and my first thought was Another Zoreen. Zoreen is such an underrated child character; I'd love an episode with her and Harmony becoming friends despite Hacker (maybe another gardening episode, and Harmony can show Zoreen the garden that Buzz and Delete grew; they're basically Harmony's cousins).

Running in a Cyberchase (Voltron: Legendary Defender/Cyberchase)
Title taken from lyrics of the “Cyberchase” Theme Song.
~•~
When the Castle of Lions receives a distress signal, the Paladins of Voltron go through a strange pink portal which leads them to Cyberspace, a universe with it’s own set of laws of physics.
Upon arriving, the meet the Cybersquad: Matt, Inez, Jackie, Digit, and Slider. They take Team Voltron to see Motherboard, who turns out to be the one who sent the distress signal to the castle.
But when they later find out that Hacker has formed an alliance with Zarkon to hack Motherboard and ruler Cyberspace, Team Voltron and the Cybersquad must work together to stop Hacker and the Galra Empire from getting the Motherboard and destroying Cyberspace.
Using gadgets and following clues, the teams solves math mysteries and any other problem that comes their way.
Can the Defenders of the Universe, 4 cool kids, and a wacky bird outsmart the Hacker and Emperor Zarkon? There’s only one way to find out!

Cyberchase Character Discussion (for your local Cyberchase trivia quiz) - #7: Creech
Alright, where do we start with Creech? She's a fan favorite who plays well with Inez. They both have terminal Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness. I mean, they like using big words, which confuses the other characters. It's how they met during "The Creech Who Would Be Crowned". Matt was making fun of Inez's use of big words, Inez told him where he could stick his yo-yo, and then she bumped into Creech.
But I'm getting ahead of myself. Creech was part of a set of characters introduced in Season 3. So, before "The Creech Who Would Be Crowned" aired, Creech was introduced through the "Who's New?" promotion on the Cyberchase website.
So, let's see what fun facts we get about Creech.
Lives in tropical Tikiville
Really fun and spunky
Her family used to rule Tikiville until they lost the crown in a race
Yeah, that checks out.
Creech has an interesting design, especially when you put her next to Slider, who was in the same set of new characters for Season 3. If Slider ever went through the vortex, he could pass for an Earthlie. In fact, most of the kid characters that our heroes befriend could pass for Earthlies. Creech is the exception. She has antennae sticking out of her head, rings around her elbow joints, and circuit board traces in her hair and torso. I believe her hair is solid metal. Otherwise, the circuit board traces in it wouldn't make much sense.
Now, there's alot to be said about Cyberchase's transition from traditional animation to flash animation. However, Creech made the transition just fine. Her circuit board traces, antennae, and freckles were left intact. It looks like one of the rings around each of her elbow joints was lost, but that is minor.
Now, we learn pretty quickly that one of Tikiville's traditions is the "Kahuna-huna-race-a-runa". Every three years, the leader of Tikiville gives up their crown and holds an auto race. The winner gets the crown and becomes the new ruler. Of course, The Hacker is here to compete and cheat for the crown.
The Hacker taking one site is already one too many. However, the crown contains powers that were used to transform creatures called the Taboo Tikis into stone statues. The Hacker wants the crown so that he can release them and use them to conquer Cyberspace.
The crown also has important meaning to Creech, which she explains to Nezzie in a flashback. The crown was in her family for several generations, with her mother giving it up three years ago. During that race, Creech was the favorite to win. However, she went the wrong direction, which cost her the race.
And now, three years later, she's back to make her family proud.
There's an important scene with just her and Inez, as Matt, Jackie, and Digit had gone on. Because of her prior mistake, she pauses at a directional sign. Something about it doesn't seem right. She fears that she is about to make the same mistake as three years ago.
Her caution pays off, as The Hacker had tampered with the sign. She and Inez work together to prove the correct direction.
And when they catch up to The Hacker, Inez has a massive shit-eating grin. Never seen anything quite like it before or since.
Creech also has a few moments in the episode where she tries to nudge Inez towards making peace with Matt and Jackie. Keep in mind that Inez was pissed off enough that she hesitated to call them when both she and Creech were chest-deep in quicksand.
With help from her new Earth friends, Creech pushes through The Hacker's cheating and becomes the Big Kahuna. The Taboo Tikis remain in their stone forms. We don't get much information about these creatures, but we know that Creech never awakens them to use them herself. It does make me wonder what would have happened if The Hacker had won. He seemed confident that he would have been able to control them, but I wonder if they are truly uncontrollable.
The crown can also make dino plushes. Creech does this for Inez, on Matt's suggestion. Very sweet.
We don't know much about Creech's responsibilities as the Big Kahuna. We know that she gets plenty of the blame during the "Tiki-Ville Turkey Day" episode, where The Hacker steals the Egg of Benedicta, and the plant life on the site starts to die.
Of course, with everyone working together, they foil The Hacker again. They also realize that the egg wasn't actually what kept the site alive. Instead, it was the power of teamwork.
Back in Season 3 and Season 4, the show wasn't really interested in giving putting the kid characters' family members on-screen. The major exception was Slider, as his story of finding his missing father was at the heart of the Transformatron arc. However, Creech's family remained unknown.
Flash forward to Season 7, and we get a Father's Day episode, where we meet Creech's father, Max. She loves him very much, and it is clear that he loves her too. As of now, we still have no sign of Creech's mother. As far as I know, the show has never stated that Creech's mother is dead. Maybe they're implying it, and that's as far as they will go, or perhaps she'll show up one day. She is/was a major inspiration to Creech.
Alright, let's have another point-of-contrast between Creech and Slider. Slider gets shipped with everyone. Slider/Inez, Slider/Jackie, and Slider/Matt are all highly popular. Creech is mostly shipped with Inez. While Creech has other ships, none of them appear to be as popular. Communication is important in relationships, and these two can understand each other without a dictionary, so I suppose it makes sense.
Anyway, let's grab her official trading card.
So, she's the same age as Matt and Jackie, at 11. Her favorite color is turquoise. He favorite line is "Precisely!", because she is a huge nerd. She likes big words, mashed potatoes and her family. She hates cheaters and bullies. She is great at caring about others and driving.

Headcanons about unique relationships between Slider and the squad? Got any?
Of course! :0)
Matt- These two jokingly tease each other all the time. When Matt finds out that Slider doesn't know much about Earth he loves to tell him things and make him guess if he's exaggerating or not. Slider's Earth knowledge is somehow worse than before. He sees all the kids as his best and closest friends and loves hanging out with him. Matt can keep up with his speed on a board which not many can do so Slider loves to go skating with him.
Jackie- Often gives him grief about his very limited fashion choices, especially as they get older. During movie nights will try to style his hair, which results in him falling asleep. His collected and blunt nature are great for Jackie to bounce ideas off and she'll ramble to him for an hour before he just presents a clear choice for her.
Inez- Slider views her as a younger sister kind of energy. He's probably most protective over her, especially against bullies of verbal insults. She's at the age that Slider himself felt the most alone so he'd lose all his limbs before he let her feel like that. Thus he is always sure to include her in whatever the group is planning. She taught him board games because he'd never had the time or friends to learn before.
Digit- Not that Digit knows, but Slider considers him family what with their shared history and trauma of Hacker. He looks out for the boid and tries to help him get better at skating, even though Digit would prefer to rely on his feet not wheels. Slider discovered Digit liked baking and cooking and pushed him to try new recipes. If Slider is around he'll always be Digit's taste tester and enthusiasticly support him. There have been times that Slider has had to spit food out or has to lay down because Digit grabbed the wrong ingredient or added too much of something. He once fed Slider a spicy brownie without realizing he'd accidentally hit the pepper flakes into the batter. One moment later Slider is chugging milk with tears streaming down his face.

"Ptttttt please. I'm like, the best driver in Radopolis." Even if that were true, that statistic was still not very good considering how many crashes Radsters got into. But whether or not he should drive did not stop him from turning on the car and hitting the gas. The car definitely drifted around the road a lot more than usual leading to slider blinking or shaking his head and straightening it out, but to his credit he did not crash. Putting the car in park at the tree, slider glanced around and groaned, seeing that no one was there.
"Maybe I'm crazy." Slider huffed crossing his arms. The drive had taken a lot out of him and he was starting to regret leaving and wanted a nap.
It was at that moment that there was some shouting coming from the new skate ramp that Coop was building earlier. Frowning slightly, Slider grabbed Mari's arm and slowly crept over the hill to where the top of the ramp started. Staring down, Slider and Mari spotted Hacker, Delete, and Buzz on one side, while across from them was Matt, Jackie, Inez, and Digit. It seems they had come upon a showdown.
Slapping his forehead Slider laughed, "Oh yeaaahhhhhhh! I saw him like, a second before I crashed, he was sneaking over there, I guess the concussion took it right out of me. Weird." He turned to Mari, "Now what?"
sliding-into-space:
Coop gave her a sympathetic grimace, “I wasn’t around and I got an earful about responsibility, I believe he has a speech already prepared for you. I’m sure he’ll calm down in a bit, it’s just how he shows concern weird enough.” The radster shrugged, the way he and Dr Marbles operated was very different.
“On another note, don’t let Ann get to you, she’s just stressed about running the busiest hospital on Radopolis. She had a tough outer layer but deep…. Very very, VERY deep down she is very kind.” He snorted.
Glancing at Slider, Coop smiled fondly. The young Borg was staring at his hands suspiciously and was completely out of it. Shaking his head and tousling the boy’s hair again before turning back towards the front desk, Coop gave Mari a wink. I’ll go figure out the boring paperwork, you two enjoy your doctor fix up.“ And with that he trotted down the hallway back towards the front desk.
The two nurses sat their wheelchairs in a room and left. Slider turned to Mari with a frown as blinking several times asked, “Why is Hacker here?” He shook his head trying to clear it.
“Geez…” Maribo would have rolled her eyes if her head didn’t hurt so much. She would just have to believe him about the strictness being the way the doctor showed that he cared. She couldn’t think too much or worry about Marbles lecturing her right now, anyway. Things began to spin and she had to close her eyes after Coop winked at her and left.
Mari had been about to fall asleep, in all honesty, before she heard Hacker’s name come out of Slider’s mouth, and she snapped awake as quick as she physically could. The problem here was that she was also pretty out of it, and was willing to believe her friend. “Where?? I-I’ll kick him to the curb!”

My favorite Cyberchase ships, explained
Slider x Inez (Slinez): Seeing Inez crush on Slider is so cute and always fun to watch. Also they’re two of my biggest faves in the show. I kinda miss it though, feels like they kinda just forgot about Inez's crush after Season 5/6...
Slider x Jackie (SliJack?): Like with Inez, seeing Jackie crush on Slider is just always fun. Also, they had some nice moments together in "Bottled Up", as well as Jackie blushing in embarrassment after screaming "You're the best Slider!" in "Going Solar", was really nice and also just kinda made me go "Yo are they shipteasing?" lmao.
Slider x Matt (SliMatt, Math Boyfriends): Matt would probably be just, the biggest tsundere bi disaster with Slider in this ship. Cute ship with lots of potential.
Inez x Matt (Mattnez): Seems to be one of the more popular pairings in the show, and to be honest I can't really blame them. It's SUPER cute with a lot of cute moments in the show.
Jackie x Matt (MattJax?): Another dynamic that is cute and fun to watch onscreen.
Inez x Creech (Crinez): DUDE the friendship they have in the show is just so PURE. They're just such good friends to each other, and I also love how they shared a double bike in "Creech's Creature Quandry", I was just like "They are GIRLFRIENDS your honor!".
Matt x Shari (SharMatt?): Guess both Shari Spotter and her character inspiration have a thing for redheads amirite! Here we have another pair that's cute and fun to watch onscreen... kind of a shame we haven't seen Shari since "Escape from Merlin's Maze" in Season 6 though.
Digit x Glowla: Glowla had like... one episode? "A Whale of a Tale". And heck her interactions with Digit in that episode were really sweet, especially that lil kiss she gave him.
Jules x Binary: Yes, this is my dumb Jules crackship, because Jules is best Cyber-husband who deserves love. There aren't exactly too many characters to choose from, but I somehow decided that one mermaid from "Codename: Icky" would be a good choice skksksksk. The basis for this is literally just how they both were introduces as guards and had a bad first day on their jobs as guards... hence my calling it a crackship. But hey I mean I can make for some cute interactions. And also Jules deserves love.
Jules x good things: Do I even need to explain this one? Jules is a precious cinnamon roll who deserves all the best things.
Hacker x Wicked (Hacked? Wicker?): It's more of a crackship for me but the banter these two have is always golden and we need more of it.
Dr. Marbles x Lady Ada Lovelace: I forgot to put this in my original list of favorite ships but... yeah they cute. Computer scientists spouses supremacy.
Honorable Mentions:
Inez x Jackie & Digit x Dodie: Cute couples, but I can't really see them in a romantic way.
